Five Star Reviews: | 76% prepare to be amazed! May 23, 2017 wow. i had a few different home theater systems before this one for a lot years. all i have to say is wow. big sound for such a tiny speaker. my ;ast set up was a pioneer 5.1 with front tower speakers and a 10" polk audio bass module. let me tell you the quality and crispness of the sound was noticeable even to my wife who doesn't really pay attention to these things lol. everything is compact with BIG BIG sound. from that point i only bought bose. from headphones to portable speakers. Bose has a customer for life now. the set up was plain and easy with a colored manual for people who might need it. i have installed plenty of these things and it was easy. the wires are a bit bulky and long, your going to need to learn and figure out where to hid the excessively long speaker wires. so incase you have a huge room dont worry you have plenty of slack. these are fiber optic cables so make sure they are all plugged it because if one isn't firmly snugged in there non of then speakers will sound properly. easy to match in the back of the speaker, red with red black with black. this really makes you feel like your in a theater. i highly recommend this brand and system ive had it for a few years now and no problems. the warranty on these things are great if you need it. no wonder high end cars use them for their audio. good buy I got these speakers from Amazon for a GREAT price ($369 on sale) December 9, 2015 I got these speakers from Amazon for a GREAT price ($369 on sale). It looks like they have sold them all and they are only available from other vendors at the time of this review. These were bought to replace the Infinity speakers I had to leave in my house when I sold it. I could not be happier with the change to these speakers and I LOVED my Infinitys. I really do not get the hate for Bose that people have. I'm sure I don't have the perfect ear for sound and everything but these sound amazing to me! I have had people comment the same when I've had guests over whether it be for music or just the surround sound. If you can get them at the price I did, do not hesitate to jump on it. Even at the $700 full price it's worth it in my opinion. Incredible home theater system. November 18, 2015 While these may not be the loudest speakers you can buy or the deepest bass, the volume of sound that they produce are unparalleled in my experience. When positioned properly, it's truly amazing how sounds are projected all around the room. There are times where I have to pause the TV and rewind to determine if something that I heard was on TV or if it was elsewhere in the house. I would recommend this Bose system to anyone who values quality entertainment and wants to get the most out of their home theater system. Great Small Speakers November 1, 2015 I'm aware some believe Bose stands for Buy Other Sound Equipment but for the price I had a hard time finding competing speakers of this size. I have no interest in huge towering speakers taking over my living room, and would much rather be able to hide my speakers behind something light like a curtain or the TV and have the sound come from seemingly nowhere, which I was able to achieve with these and also scare a few of my guests when they came over to watch movies since they thought I was still using my dull TV speakers. Setup is easy: the sattelite speakers are identical so any one speaker can go anywhere, all you have to do is connect the correct cables to the speaker in the right location. The cables then connect directly to the subwoofer, and the subwoofer has a long dongle that connects to your receiver (which is not included). Everything is labelled well and color coded, so it's extremely difficult to connect incorrectly. The cables feel heavy and like they are made well, and the speakers even have some heft to them but the subwoofer is surprisingly light. The cables are also extremely long so you should be able to run them anywhere. Each speaker comes with rubber mounts to prevent them from moving if on a vibration-prone surface, and because each speaker is identical if one dies it's easy to contact Bose and send one back for replacement (although I've had 2.1 Bose speakers for years and they still work like new so I'm not that worried about them dying). When it comes to the sound I already knew what to expect, but I was still blown away with how much more oomph was given to them compared to my TV speakers. The small speakers even seem to get some bass in them as I found when I turned the subwoofer down as low as it would go, and everything is extremely clear. Being able to hide these pretty much anywhere is a huge plus, the only real speaker I have visible is the subwoofer but being black and sleek it doesn't look obnoxious. They can be pretty loud with zero distortion to the point of shaking my walls and being ear drum splitting so I don't have any idea how loud they can really go. While I don't have many other speakers to compare these to since this is the first 5.1 set I've used in over 10 years since I bought an old Logitech system, I will say if you want small speakers that sound good then these Bose the ones to get. it's an excellent bargain for good quality sound May 20, 2015 Why does this require a review? It's the undisputed king of middle-class surround sound systems. It will never win an award for fidelity but compared to the competitors, it's an excellent bargain for good quality sound. | 64% A Resounding SOLID 5 stars September 19, 2017 Just the thought that I bought this receiver brand new for under $200 makes me feel like if I took advantage of the seller. At first I was put off by the gimmicky DSP sound presets which lets face it head on right now and call them exactly what they are.... ABSOLUTE GARBAGE! However don't let any of that distract you because when you really get this thing setup all the way and you experience a movie played through it you will be tempted to charge admission for seats to the next movie you watch. From pure sound fidelity to amplifier power to remote control features and ergonomics to choice of inputs right down to the way yamaha does the settings menus for this receiver... EVERYTHING WILL MAKE YOU ELATED. The only prerequisite is that you attach excellent (or at least above average) speakers to enjoy the full experience this receiver can provide. So many little things that seem insignificant about this receiver at first eventually grow on you like the ability to find buttons easily on the remote in the dark or even the fact that while knee deep in the setup menu one can simultaneously initiate other tasks such as adjusting the volume without ever having to exit the menu settings you were in. It's a pity that movie audio has progressed to the point where 5.1 surround sound can easily be misconstrued as outdated and consumers now feel pressured into upgrading to 7.1 or DTS x/Atmos compatible receivers. I DARE say (and I challenge anyone to prove me wrong) I have not visited a single movie theater (IMAX) included that can outpace the audio quality of bluray DTS-HD Master Audio or Dolby True HD when properly calibrated through this dirt cheap Yamaha receiver and played on excellent quality speakers. "CHECK SP WIRES" for AWESOME 5.1 sound at an AMAZING value! August 18, 2015 I love this receiver! It was a lot less expensive than the next 5.1 option and I couldn't imagine being much happier with a unit that cost $100 more. Except for built-in bluetooth (external add-ons are available) and maybe a second optical port, there's really nothing more I could want in a surround receiver. The USB input is great, I don't even have to hook up a phone or Mp3 player, I just bought a low-profile 32GB stick and it lives in the unit with my whole collection on it that I can access at any time. There is even on-screen info on the TV through HDMI and also on the receiver display screen for music and settings. The plethora of different presets and decoders is great, and I love that I have full control of all tone and individual speaker levels through the menus. Puts out plenty of power and sounds crystal clear. Could not be happier with performance. The easy setup mic is interesting, but I found that I would rather set the levels myself as it did some interesting things when I ran it. Two minor cons, but neither big enough to dent the 5 star rating I'm giving it. One- the unit is large. Like, standard stereo receiver large. I thought it would be smaller for some reason (cost?), but it is not any larger than your average receiver unit. Two- the receiver can be very picky about how it is wired in the back. I kept getting a "CHECK SP WIRES" message and an auto shutdown at around -20db for the first few days until I pulled out the unit and re-stripped and reinserted all the wiring VERY carefully. Now it works like a champ and will crank a lot louder than I need it to! Found a lot of online frustration with this issue and exactly what the cause is (speaker ohms, external wiring, bad speakers, etc.) and I am pretty confident this is where anyone having a problem should focus. Once all was up and running, I have nothing negative to say whatsoever. Would buy it all over again and will likely get another Yamaha unit if I ever have need to. Awesome Buy for the audio lover. June 20, 2015 awesome receiver! i got this to replace a little amp that i had that then replaced a newer better amp that came faulty and i gotta say i am really impressed with this thing. im currently using it with a pair of Cerwin Vega SL-5Ms and a Dayton Audio Sub 1200 12in 120w sub and lets just say i can really blow my windows out. theres a ton of features in this box of loud. i currently have it hooked up to my computer through the optical connection on AV1 and mainly use it for music and gaming (both sound amazing btw) that and use the FM Radio every once in awhile. its got a setting for setting the crossover limit on your upper speakers. levels for all of the individual speakers. and if you have a sub that over powers your other speakers at lower volumes you can adjust it to better level itself as you turn up the volume. and a ton of other things i havent messed with. it came with a AM and FM radio cables (id suggest getting better ones) and a microphone that you put where the listening place will be and it will automatically adjust your speakers to the best settings. 100w a channel (5 channel) got a handful of HDMI connections and AV connections with some Optical in's and various other inputs and outputs i have been nothing but impressed with it The only complaint I have and that might go away if someone can tell me how you get the separation of dialog volume to effects v May 23, 2015 I've had this up and running only a few days now with it hooked to Boston Acoustics Soundware 2.1 plus two 4 1/2" Soundware speakers as the fronts. No center yet as I couldn't afford the Orb twin pack that I plan to buy. First impression after having a couple 2.1 computer stereo's including the Klipsch Pro Media is WOW. This receiver and speaker combination is incredible. All the different sound fields for movies and music should have something for everyone. The only complaint I have and that might go away if someone can tell me how you get the separation of dialog volume to effects volume closer so you don't annoy everyone else in the house.? The simplicity of controls is not bad but the remote is too 1990's and needs rounded edges and back lighting and maybe a rubberized feel. Some of the buttons are a bit small and close together. I really like the separate equalizer's for each speaker. The Bass and Equalization really add to what you can get out of these small speakers. All in all this receiver is everything I'll ever need along with quality speakers for a great sound experience. If anyone can answer that volume question please do so through Amazon. I'll update and maybe change to 5 stars as time goes on.UPDATE 5-24-15 : I found the best way to control the volume difference between dialog and effects. I am using the Music field (5.1 Stereo) which gives the best balance between the fronts and the surround speakers and the sub. You must also use the channel equalizer along with Level, Tone Control, Trim and the sub's volume control. This combination seems to be great when boosting the sub level for music and decreasing it for movies late at night. Hope that helps anyone having the same problem. Also after doing this I feel justified in changing my review to 5 stars. Aloha all. Refurbished but came as new. A pleasent surprise! November 21, 2014 A great receiver. I bought this one refurbished and it came as new. All the packaging was original and it even smelled like new. For what I can tell the YPAO mic was the only thing that had been opened. No cosmetic damage at all, as I said this could have passed as new which was a great deal. I bought this to replace my old yamaha reciever and even though this is a smaller model than the one I'm replacing (sorry i can't remember right now the old model) it has great features and sound. Speaking of older Yamaha (and i guess most old recievers) this one is much smaller and much more lighter, I'm no expert but I guess it's due to the discrete amp configuration.Quality and sound is what you would expect for a renowed brand as Yamaha. I'm not going to describe all the features in it, you can check them out in the product description. But I will definetly give the tumbs up. I've heard some complaints about some missing features other recievers have like networking, but for the price you definetly get more than you paid. Stunning improvement in sound for TV and movies August 25, 2014 Although I wouldn't describe myself as an audiophile, I've had a basic 5 speaker home theater setup for some time. To improve the sound, I recently bought a new center channel speaker (Definitive Technology ProCenter 1000) and that helped somewhat, but a relative who installs home theaters urged me to replace my 15 year-old Sony AV receiver if I really wanted to hear a difference. So after some online research I decided on a Yamaha, and chose the RX-V377 because I didn't need the streaming music features, as I mainly watch sports, TV shows, and movies from Netflix and cable. Setup was simple and straightforward. Once I had everything connected and ran the setup process with the microphone that was provided, I was stunned by the difference in sound. I thought my speakers needed upgrading, but they now they sound much, much better. Formerly muddy dialogue is now crystal clear with the Drama setting, sound effects are subtle but realistic, and when I watch sports I feel like I'm part of the crowd at the game (aided by the receiver's Sports setting). While there are far more features that I will ever use (or even understand), and I'm still trying to figure out how to turn off my TV with the receiver's remote (pretty trivial in the scheme of things), this was a modest financial investment with a big payoff in listening pleasure. I'm now tempted to get a subwoofer to enhance the sound even more. | 53% There are no reviews yet | 60% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet |
Four Star Reviews: | 10% Amazing quality for a small to medium room!! August 17, 2016 It will meet your expectations based on your room size. If you are not using for large living room this system is the best in crisp quality and bass it produces through the sub. Choose a best quality receiver and you will have an amazing sound!! Four Stars August 12, 2016 Works great. Fabulous sound. Just wish the sub-woofer was a bit more compact Be careful if you have home theater pre-wiriing! July 19, 2016 If you have home theater pre-wiring, please read this first. The speakers sound great, but they come with RCA connections from the sub-woofer to a Bose proprietary two prong plug on the speaker cubes. That means that you will need Bose Bare Speaker wire adapter ($30 incl. shipping) which is white vs. black speakers, fortunately it's behind the cabinet for me. This will connect the sub-woofer to your home theater input ports. You'll also need a 5 pack of Bose AC-2 speaker wire connectors, (fortunately black, $25 incl. shipping), and additional speaker wire to connect the speaker cubes to the output ports. You'll also need wall mounts or stands. The Bose wall mounts are $35 apiece plus shipping and a couple of online reviews said they don't work well with the Acoustimass 6's. I found an alternative wall mount that was 4 for $40. Both the adapter and the connectors say that work with 14 gauge wire, but it is a really tight fit. All told, I spent nearly an additional $100 to make these work. But they sound great. ... in an outdoor sunroom and it fills the space beautifully. The sound extends to the surrounding areas as ... September 2, 2015 Have these in an outdoor sunroom and it fills the space beautifully. The sound extends to the surrounding areas as well. Highly recommend. I've really enjoyed it. So have the girlfriend August 17, 2015 I've wanted a set of Bose Acoustimass speakers for years. It was my father's day gift to myself. I've really enjoyed it. So have the girlfriend, the kids and their friends. I love the surround effects and how the room shakes when watching movies. | 20% Exceeded my expectations by far February 7, 2017 Really enjoying this receiver with our home theater. After one year of heavy use not one problem and produces good clean sound even near full power. Running a 5 speaker Polk bar and 2 Infinity towers with twin 5.5" drivers along with 2 wireless rears and a sub.Planned on using this temporary for a year or so but see no reason to upgrade unless going into big $$ leagues with speakers to match Overall this is a good receiver, but it has a quirk or two October 2, 2016 Overall this is a good receiver, but it has a quirk or two.My main complaint is the weird thing that happens with this when i turn on my Dish Network box. I hit the power on the Dish remote and it turns on the TV and Receiver. Then it will switch to something like Analog or AV and back to HDMI after about 5 seconds. Then when it settles in on HDMI, it is on PCM rather than Dolby Digital and with the Dish, it seems PCM only plays 2 channels plus SW. So if i want surround sound, i have to either turn the channel and back or turn the dish box off and on. It's a daily occurrence and i've googled it to find others have the same issue. I've tried messing with the CEC controls but I cannot remedy it. My old Sony AV receiver worked flawlessly. Also, if i try to add my Blu-ray player to the mix with the CEC settings and i turn the dish on, it will switch on my blu-ray player and turn the receiver to Blu-ray and i have to turn it off and switch back to Dish. Obviously i don't use the controls with the blu-ray player. I really wonder if the ARC isn't causing the issue, but I don't feel like pulling the 60" tv off the wall to swap ports to non-ARC HDMI. If i ever get a new TV, I will switch to a mount with an arm so i can get behind it and test things like this. Or i'll switch brands of AV receivers.Other than that, it does everything else pretty good. It works with my 3D TV and Blu-ray player, which is the main reason i got rid of my old Sony that didn't support the HDMI needed for 3D.I don't like that it remembers the last setting i used on a given input. Like if I am watching something on my Blu-ray player that doesn't have surround sound and I use one of the setting to simulate surround sound, it will keep that setting the next time i watch a movie that may have DTS HD MA. When I watch anything with surround sound, i like to use Straight as the setting rather than muck it up with unnecessary sound fields. Thankfully there is at least a Straight button on the remote and receiver so i can make the switch once i realize it.It encodes Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD MA on the receiver which my old receiver did not. I made sure I had a Blu-ray player that decoded it onboard and also when i got my Blu-ray 3D player. Then i realized that it didn't matter because i don't think i could get it to encode on the player and send it LPCM to the receiver even if i wanted to. I'm not sure if i'd want to, it probably doesn't matter where you decode it these days.I like the USB port on the front that uses the receivers DAC to convert the music from my iPhone. I figure it should have a better DAC than the iPhone since the iPhone is so small with smaller components and the receiver is so large and technically can fit better components. I have no idea though, but it makes me feel better.Hopefully the quirkiness of the input switching when first turning it on will go away with future versions of this receiver. But it's a pretty solid receiver for the price Works well as an amp, with a couple of minor issues May 29, 2015 I bought two nice bookshelf speakers to use for TV, movies, and music. So I needed an amp to power them, and it had to have a remote control. Name-brand amps with remotes start at around $130, so for a few dollars more I decided to just get this entire AV receiver.I think the RX-V377's remote and menu system is pretty intuitive. I didn't read the manual and I was able to figure it all out without much trouble. You don't really need the on-screen menus, everything can all be done from the display on the front panel, although maybe it helps to see the menu structure on-screen first. Anyway, setting up the receiver was a pleasant experience for me.I appreciate that Yamaha included a 3.5mm audio input on the front of the receiver. I don't know why this isn't standard on every amp and receiver, but it isn't. With this input, you can easily connect a phone, tablet, or laptop to the receiver and listen to it over your stereo. It's not as convenient as Bluetooth, but good luck finding Bluetooth at this price point.Speaking of Bluetooth, Yamaha had the good judgement to include USB connectors on the front and back of the receiver. This means you can buy a cheap USB-powered Bluetooth audio dongle, plug it into the receiver, power it via the receiver, and BAM, you just Bluetooth-enabled your receiver for under $20 and a minimum amount of fuss. (Note that I haven't done this myself but I don't see why it wouldn't work.)Since this is a budget receiver, and receivers are usually advertised by their wattage, I was initially somewhat concerned that this Yamaha "only" puts out 100W per channel (really 70W, 2-channels-driven). But, if you read up on power vs. loudness, you'll find out that if you double the power, things only get 23% louder. So really, the higher-wattage receivers that the RX-V377 is competing with won't get louder by any meaningful amount. So I've been using this receiver for a little over a month and I'm very pleased, with two caveats:1) I originally had my computer plugged into the receiver via HDMI, and then the receiver plugged into my TV via HDMI. This worked, but the receiver was very picky about which devices were turned on first. Everything had to be turned on in a particular order or it wouldn't pass video from the computer to the TV. This might be something you can get used to, but I gave up and just connected my TV's optical audio output to the receiver and now I don't have any video going through the receiver. This setup works fine.2) The receiver will occasionally shut off for, like, no reason. It seems like maybe a protective circuit is being tripped to prevent it from shorting or overheating, but it's usually during a pretty quiet scene of a TV show or movie. It has only happened a few times so I'll just wait to see if it gets worse. Great Amp December 1, 2014 I'm not sure what's going on, but we have to reverse our volume habits. We have this amp wired to a Sony powered subwoofer and Fluance AVHTB speakers. Crisp highs, deep bass, and a crystal-clear mid-range are all here. Here's the deal with the volume, though: we are in negative numbers. The amp is so powerful and the speakers so responsive that we can't take the volume above zero without the fear of shattering windows! While the sound is great, it's very difficult to find a universal remote that does all that we need to do except the amp's own remote. Which adds yet ANOTHER remote to our rapidly-growing collection. That's not the fault of Yamaha, though. The search continues. For the money, I imagine it would be difficult to find a better amplifier. With the only real shortcoming being the negative volume numbers, I highly recommend it. And if I can get a solution to that, I'll happily add the 5th star. Yamaha quality for a song September 20, 2014 Bought this to replace my HTR-5750. I had outgrown my inputs and used optical for most all audio. This moved from using the TV to switch everything. Now the receiver controls inputs across HDMI, eliminated half my cables. The unit is noticeably lighter and lacks some terminals my old unit had. Rear channels are now cheap push/pinch type and did not like my #12 wires. 5-ways for front are okay. They have just saved money using only HDMI connectors, very few other options on back.Still playing with the sound fields, not sure if I like anyone of them yet. Always ran it straight on my old Yamaha. On-screen display is nice, as well as customization for input names, can read across room now. I am still programming my Harmony remote with functions I need. YPAO is better than using a sound level meter and adjusts the frequency response in room.Overall, can't be beat for the money. 5" woofers) and newer Polk center speaker is much better than the old setup August 28, 2014 The sound from this thing kills older audio gear.I replaced a Sony SDP-800 surround processor and Technics SA-EX320 receiver with this box. With just the supplied wire FM antenna, sound through a pair of older Polk speakers (6.5" woofers) and newer Polk center speaker is much better than the old setup. It seems to work well with a Roku 3 and Tablo 4-tuner DVR too. I like having everything plug into the receiver, and running just one HDMI cable to the Sony KDL32XBR TV.No, it's not my Bryston 0.4B preamp driving Carver M-200t amplifer, but it's a lot more user-friendly. And the hall / environment simulations sound pretty good too.I just wish there were low-level outputs for rear-channel surround electronics. I'm using a Polk wireless rear speaker, and needed to run speaker wires to its transmitter. | 21% There are no reviews yet | 21% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet |
Three Star Reviews: | 6% Speaker went out after a day December 2, 2015 Kind of good so far. Ish. One speaker, or speaker wire has gone out, not sure yet. The speaker in question was on the Front Left and it was scratchy every once in a while. It seemed to get worse and then finally cut out. I tested putting it on the Center wire(which had no issues) and it was fine for a minute but then got scratchy again, so I disconnected it. I will update after I contact Bose for a solution or Amazon for a replacement. It's a good sound system November 16, 2015 It's a good sound system, but i guess i was expecting a little more from Bose. The sound quality, even though it is really good, is not as good as they make it sound like in stores. When i toggle between my TV's original sound to this Bose sound system, there is a clear improvement in sound quality but as I said it is not day and night change. Considering I bought this for under $400 i am not complaining but I thought it was going to sound a lot clearer. I was hoping for and expecting much more quality from ... September 3, 2015 I was hoping for and expecting much more quality from this setup. Speakers do not produce a full range of sound I was hoping for. So and so speaker set August 22, 2015 Like everybody else says it is easy to set up. Wires are color coded and it is almost impossible to make a mistake. However...what disappointed me the most was the subwoofer. I have 2 Kilspch subwoofers that shake the room. This one is barely audible up front and close. You have to put your hand on the subwoofer to hear a light vibration. But the size is almost as big as my two other Kilpsch SWs. This was for a family room where I could not position any large speakers, it is a very asymmetric room. Yet they are connected to a Samsung 48 in 4K curved TV. We have to make do, I guess. Decent @ sale price, but it depends on what's important to you.... March 3, 2015 The Bose AM 6 speakers are attractive and small, so they won't distract from the room decor. The bass module on the other hand may prove a little more conspicuous, as it is rather large, and their recommended setup of having them horizontal to the wall leaves the unit looking like the side of an old computer tower... The proprietary wiring/cabling makes it rather cumbersome; you will end up with a big bundle of wiring near the bass module you'll have to figure out what to do with. The surround effects and sounds were very good while watching movies. Despite the cube speakers small size, they will fill a good size room with good, but not great sound. Listening to music was unfortunately a bit disappointing. The highs were a little "tinny" and not crisp. Bass at times was not very defined; it sounded a little "sloppy" for lack of a better term. Some music sounded very good, while some sounded very average. The quality of the source and the style of music at times can complement the system, but overall she sound was good, not great. If aesthetics are important, this system is one of the least intrusive decor wise (excluding the bass module), which adds value. If you mostly watch movies, and the room size is medium to small, you may be very satisfied. If, on the other hand you appreciate high fidelity music reproduction, and value that more than other factors, you'll find better value elsewhere. | 4% Cheap Remote Control February 14, 2017 Pros:*All the bells and whistles.Cons:*Cheap remote control with small buttons. Cheap enough that I now rethink my respect for the Yamaha name. I can't help but wonder if there were other corners that were cut on the circuitry. Yamaha- You have something to learn about maintaining your image and losing it to save pennies.*Shipping box was damaged and partly open. USPS marked it as damaged. I blame Amazon for a half a** job in packaging with one band of tape to hold the heavy inner product box. The product itself worked fine, but when it arrived the box was slightly ... March 23, 2016 The product itself worked fine, but when it arrived the box was slightly damaged. I took a chance and kept it because the price was very reasonable, and no others were in stock. Unfortunately the HDMI out port quit working after about 6 months. I purchased the upgraded model that replaced this one, and have so far been very pleased with the quality of the sound. Hot item... literally! October 31, 2015 I really liked this when I first got it because it was packaged well and it seemed like a new model right out of the box even though it was refurbished. The problem has come several months later when the unit will overheat and shut off by itself. That's a good safety feature because after 15 minutes it can be turned back on again. However, it leaves the question of why is it overheating? At the time the unit was only being used to watch television, so it wasn't being cranked up loud to play music or anything. I'm keeping an eye on it because if it does it again I'm sending it back. Does NOT support COMPONENT. May 5, 2015 Unit sounds great and has lots of nice bells and whistles for the price. However, I am pretty disappointed, as I picked up this specific model because of the component connections in the hopes of connecting some older game systems. After failing to get it working, I checked Yamaha's own installation app, and it verified that component video + analogue audio is not supported. So in order to get the old Xbox working, I'm now on the line for a separate component to HDMI converter. I'm not even sure what those component jacks are there for, as I couldn't even get a picture to come through. If you're thinking about hooking up an older XBox or Wii, look elsewhere. Be wary if you are using a Hitachi TV! (Slightly unfair review since this problem will only affect a select few) December 3, 2014 The sound from this Receiver is great. It's crystal clear and powerful. Sadly I am having serious HDMI handshake issues. If I don't power on all of my devices in a specific order I won't get a picture on my TV. My TV runs just fine using a splitter, PC, Xbox one, and PS4. But because of the handshake issues I can only get audio most of the time with this receiver. I also tested my TV with 2 other AV receivers, one from Panasonic, and the other from Onyko. The TV worked just fine with both. Next I did extensive testing and determined that the Yamaha AV receiver functioned perfectly with other TV's. So it must be a Hitachi Yamaha compatibility issue. My Hitachi TV is 2 years old, so this may not be a problem anymore, but I still wanted to warn some people who may have this issue. It took me hours to troubleshoot both devices extensively. So it was definitely frustrating. I only realized it was a Handshake issue when the picture miraculously appeared after I accidentally powered everything on in order. The reason I gave the receiver 3 stars is because after doing some research I found out that this issue can usually be fixed by a firmware update. So I went to Yamaha's support page and to my dismay I learned that no firmware updates have been released yet. I feel that a new product such as this one should be compatible with basically all devices. Especially since I know HDCP is useless and does absolutely nothing to prevent piracy.Anyways, the sound is good enough for me just to bypass the receiver and simply use an optical cable. I know the sound quality will be slightly worse, but I'm too tired to mail this back to Amazon. Also I can't find a comparable AV receiver in this price range. So kudos to Yamaha for that. I guess I'll be checking Yamaha's website every couple of weeks for that firmware update that I hope will come. Or this issue will be resolved once I get a new TV :( I know the Gefen HDmi Detective Plus will probably work, but that's really expensive at $83.00. If you've had HDMI handshake issues before please let me know what you did to solve the problem. Great sound! (If it works) Runs a little hot. September 19, 2014 I got the RX-V377 to replace an old broken Samsung home theater system. I was glade that the receiver arrived days before it was expected, I spent the next day to run all the the wires nice and neat though out my entertainment stand only to find out that when I plugged it in it didn't turn on. (-☆) So I sent it back to Amazon, got the replacement rather quickly, But the same thing happen once everything was hooked up it wouldn't even turn on (-☆) when I got my third receiver the first thing I did was take it out of the box and plugged it in. Finally I got one that works, I have only had it for about a few days now and I already know I'm going to love this receiver. But one thing I have noticed is it seems to run a little hot, so I suggest giving it as much room as possible. Once I put it on a shelf, I ended up taking the shelf down another notch, just to be safe. | 11% There are no reviews yet | 3% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet |
Two Star Reviews: | 4% Be warned of Bose quality May 16, 2016 I was a die hard bose fan for a while. The performance of the products are fantastic just don't expect long term performance. I've had issues with several bose products where systems will fail outside the warranty window.I think most of us want our products to last longer than just the warranty period so it's not unreasonable to expect them to last years longer based on the $$$$ we spend. Just OK February 1, 2016 Just ok speakers..I Was expecting much bigger mad richer sound from this Bose system but it failed to deliver. Like other cheap sound systems the dialogues are very hard to hear at times. I Have coupled this system with a very expensive Yamaha receiver but it Doesn't help much in improving the performance. I've always heard mixed reviews about Bose but REALLY like the demo stations in various stores September 8, 2015 I've always heard mixed reviews about Bose but REALLY like the demo stations in various stores. They sound so clear and have a good range for what I need them for. HOWEVER, when I received this product, I was severely disappointed. NO bass and the little cubes sound atrocious. I know this is an inside unit and that is where I initially set it up. I have tried every combination/setting and equilizer combinations but can't get any sort of clarity. The sound sounds like it is piping through pvc pipes - with a lot of echoing and distant. Maybe I need a professional to come set up the receiver, but where do you find one of those? I would almost return them, but I don't want to give up on them just yet. I am still looking for a tech geek to give me advice. I did buy these for my back yard theater, but can't use them outside. With no bass in the house, it is even more absent outside. The cubes sound like you are listening through a pair of seashells on your ears. Setup and teardown of the unit takes about 10 minutes for setup, and about the same for teardown. Pros: Included in the package are MANY feet of wires that are soldered (tinned) on the receiver ends and easy to follow labeling. Acoustimass 6 - Outdated March 4, 2014 Best feature? Automatic sound adjustment calibrates the distance between speakers - BUT overall sooo yesterday.Adequate sound for the size of speakers BUT center speaker inadequate to handle today's technology and the sub woofer is way too large. No HDMI connections - old style bare wire connections and ALL must be connected to the subwoofer which limits the possibilities for its location given - the speaker wire is unique to Bose (connectors in to the sub) - for no technical benefit.Mine is going backAcoustimass 10 is an improvement (50% more expensive) but on price performance not convinced. My view on a Bose $1000 expenditure? $500 for quality/performance of product and $500 for the name..Purchased a Denon receiver and Boston acoustics - based on price performance - slightly lower price much better performance. | 3% Cheap, shouldn't expect a lot. February 17, 2016 Disappointed in sound quality. Bought it because it was inexpensive and haven't had good luck with reliability. Lacks richness. Hoping it lasts Ionger than 2 prior failed onkyo units, but don't have much faith in these solid state units. ARC did not work with my TV December 5, 2015 ARC did not work with my TV. To make things work I would have to switch modes and then switch back again, then audio would work. But this would reset any time a change occurred, including fast-forward/rewind. Same tv/streaming player combo worked fine with a different receiver. One is awesome and the other one has already stopped working on ... July 27, 2015 I have two of these. One is awesome and the other one has already stopped working on the right channel. Randomly Shuts down... June 30, 2015 (Easy to use! Love the room setup microphone!) Initial review. However, during a very important movie party today, it shut off randomly SIX times!!! Time to call for warranty work ALREADY!!! ... - one channel did not work - seller offered excellent June 27, 2015 Returned - one channel did not work - seller offered excellent service Could be WAY easier to use- Give me 1970 again.... June 15, 2015 I wanted to love it- BUT difficult to interface with TV and DVD player-- too many buttons-- unclear instructions that probably sounded nice in the planning stages. Could use a standard equalizer interface. Could use easier on TV screen interface- I cannot find one if it's available. I nkow this is a low end unit- but it is actually more difficult to use than my receiver from 1970. | 5% There are no reviews yet | 6% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet |
One Star Reviews: | 4% Price is NOW right but quality is poor November 21, 2015 Thought this would be great in a condo where one needs to be careful about too much bass radiating into other units. The bass cannot be turned down enough to make that work. The bass is erratic. There is no real bass, only the occasional booming that is really annoying. I've tried every conceivable setting on my amp and cannot make this system work well at all. I bought 31 days ago at $700. Now they're half that price. Hum. One Star November 12, 2015 i only recive the subwoffer and cables BUT I DIDNT RECIVE THE SPEAKERS i canrt belive it my TV sounds better on it's own August 24, 2015 Subwoofer DOA. Satellite speakers tinny and lifeless, my TV sounds better on it's own. Threw it out. Broken March 15, 2013 This is one of the first times I've ordered something off of amazon & very disappointed, & not just with the surround sound. I also bought a receiver & it does not work either. I will not ever order any of my electronics off of amazon again! | 9% Stereo short circuits frequently for no reason June 29, 2016 I've had this for about 6 months now and I've gotten the dreaded "Check SP Wires" message twice now. Google it if you're considering a Yamaha stereo. It basically means it won't play above a certain volume. At first their support people very snidely and rudely implied it was the speakers I was using (I was using lower end Samsung speakers), so I bought higher end standing Yamaha speakers. About 2 months later, I'm getting the "Check SP Wires" message again. I can't listen to music because at a certain volume the power just disconnects and I get the Check SP Wires message. I sent a message to their support, but I'm not looking forward to the same smug level of service I received last time. Stay away. I gave it the benefit of the doubt that maybe it was my inexperience but the issues progressively get worse with this unit December 3, 2015 This never has worked properly, I gave it the benefit of the doubt that maybe it was my inexperience but the issues progressively get worse with this unit. Doesn't stay on now, in the middle of a show it just stops playing sound. I don't recommend it and would never buy this brand again, I will stick with companies I know. Died after 1 month and 5 days December 3, 2015 Just died on me FIVE days after I was eligible to return to Amazon. Now I'm going to have to have it repaired by Yamaha, be inconvenienced and without a receiver for up to two months, and deal with the distinct possibility that it may die again in the future. I did some research, it appears to be the HDMI board. HUNK OF JUNK. HDMI Switcher went out after 13 months. One month after warranty expired. October 2, 2015 Worked fine for over a year, then HDMI Switcher went out after 13 months. One month after warranty expired. Must be the output as all four inputs fail to put good video to monitor. Tried new cable. Only fix direct connection to Monitor from satellite. stopped working after two months, no HDMI input September 20, 2015 Thought it was a good system at first. Once you get through programming it (which is confusing due to all the necessary options) it worked great for about two months. The one day it emitted this loud pop and started hissing like a capacitor blew up. I looked inside the receiver but didn't see any damage. Then the HDMI input stopped working. I noticed the only input that worked was the tuner. No HDMI or digital image. I dont have any component items to try out. This stereo is useless now and it is too late to return to Amazon. I will try contacting Yamaha directly. Ooooooo Noooooo July 7, 2015 Will not turn on after less than a month of use. Mr. Yamaha said " sssssssss pop I'm done". ( I'm speaking for my receiver because it no longer can). You will be missed my friend. :( | 10% There are no reviews yet | 10% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet |
