Easy to put together and use
February 20, 2017
Needed something to take 2 bikes. Opened box, placed chrome supports in supplied holes, adjusted straps and was on the road. Brackets that hold bikes rotate, which helps carry bike without the bar across the top. Nylon straps worked well to hold bikes in place. I would tell any friend to but this kit, it works well.

This was the perfect way to carry my Mother's wheelchair & walker to the Sunshine State!!!! Perfect!!!! A wheelchair rack was off the chain expensive!!!!The Allen has been used 3 times (2-trips from North Jersey to Treasurer Island, Florida (2015 & 2016 and just today July 8, 2017 from North Jersey to Long Beach Island, NJ). I used it on our 2011 Chev Cruze and 2011 VW Jetta. No dents or scratches! Keep the rubber grips from touching the ground to avoid scratching your vehicle! Try storing the rack in a climate control environment to keep the grips from dry dry rotting.I recommend hands down for a wheel chair and walker!

Works very well for a very good cost. I was able to mount both a road bike and a hybrid simultaneously on a 3-hour road trip - there didn't seem to be any bike shifting at all even when driving 80 on the highway. A few things to note:1) As others have mentioned, make sure you wrap the 3 metal clips in tape before you use the rack, otherwise it will scratch your car when installed. All other parts that touch the car are padded in thick foam. I cannot verify how long the foam will stand in the long run, but it is still thick after several weeks of use2) The rack is detachable even when it's on your car, so take it off when you reach your destination / unload your bikes, otherwise people can take it3) I wish the 2 slots for the bikes were slightly further apart - I can get the bikes mounted in the same orientation but there is not enough room for opposite orientations. This means there is more weight on the side of the rack that has the backs of both of the bikes4) Make sure you have rope or bungee cords available to prevent the wheels / pedals from rotating and hitting your car
No worries!

I normally only review something after extensive use, but I really like this rack! I have used it twice, and found it easy to put on and remove. A couple of minutes. Rigid and secure, better materials and construction than I expected for this price. I'm not afraid for my bike back there. One word of caution, if it's installed as shown in the listing photo I think it will flop around. I'd put the roller pads on the back of the trunk, not resting on the top.
This rack is sturdy and well made
July 28, 2014
Truth be told!Ordered on Tuesday, arrived on Friday, on the road Sat morning. The rack is a little small but work for me. This rack is sturdy and well made. Be extremely careful when sliding pins in hole. Your fingers may get caught between pin and frame. Hurt like heck!I was able to fit my L bike and my friend M bike on rack with no problem. Both bikes are male bikes. However, 2 large bikes may not fit on this rack, or may fit snugged/really tight. 2 things you HAVE to do. First, you need to tie your front wheel to bike frame, or to bike rack to keep front wheel from spinning during transport (spinning may damage car). Second, you need to tie pedal to bike frame, or bike rack to keep pedals from rotating during transports. The breeze from driving will cause wheel to spin, inturn causing pedals to rotate. Rotation of pedals may damage your car. 2 simple and easy fixes. Bikes will move somewhat during transport, but no worries, blame the wind. I drove 65-75 miles per hour with no problem. If the rack is on car properly, and bikes on rack properly, no worries. My friend jokinly said if her bike falls unto the pavement during transport, she was going to hurt me. I must say, I was watching and praying for a safe arrival. We all arrived safely. Thank goodness. Lol. Great buy for the price.PS....You do not have access to your trunk while rack is attached. No problem for me. Rack is easy on, easy off. My purchased price was $32 and change, not $59.99.Leigh
Works Great For The Price!!!! RECOMMENDED!!!!
July 31, 2013
I had gotten a new bike, done research on which bike rack type (roof or trunk) would be best for me. I have a 08 focus, and I decided on a trunk rack for a few reasons: 1) Im not the tallest person, so it would be easier to work with, 2) easy assembly, and 3) they were more in my price range. So, I had never bought a bike rack before, and I did a lot of reading reviews and comparing this to other more pricey bike racks. Everything has a few bad feedbacks, but most of the ones I read on this bike rack were human error. For example, one review stated that the grey foam that goes against the top of the trunk burned marks into the paint. I have been wiping off or cleaning the areas that the bike rack contact the car, this prevents friction burning debris and dirt into the paint, thus no markings after removal. Another review stated that the bike moved a lot when the car was moving, that the pedals and front wheel dented and scratched the car. I used Velcro straps to secure the tires from moving to the bike frame, and put wool socks on the pedals that would possibly come in contact with the car. To keep the bike(s) from swinging in the cradle, I took a large strap and wrapped it around the bike(s) and against the bottom of the rack, putting rags between the bike and rack where they would rub to prevent damage. I've had my boyfriend's and my bikes on the back of my car on trips that are mainly up in speeds between 55 and 75 mph, and have no problems. I do not recommend making sharp and quick turns like a maniac. I don't think we'd want to find out if that would affect the bikes either.I bought this bike rack back in early June and I have no regrets. It is perfect for my needs, and I wouldn't think of having anything else!!I hope this advice was helpful!!Good luck!!

Does the job
April 15, 2017
It does the job. I attempted it on my Corolla S 2014 with spoiler but the medal bars are pressing directly on the spoiler causing the damage to the spoiler and it's not worth it. I attempted on the hatchback Suzuki Crossover 2010 and works well. Very stable. Reasonable price. Easy to set up within a minute.
Good simple rack that will work with a station wagon
October 28, 2016
At first, I had some anxiety about this product because, while the product description said that it fit a wide variety of cars and trucks, the labeling on the package seemed to say otherwise. The box has a list of vehicles with check marks next to vehicles that it fits. Mine was listed, but without the check mark.I needn't have worried. It fit just fine on my station wagon and used it to haul my kids' two bikes about 55 miles, no problem. Or, rather, no problem with the rack. It was raining on my drive and when I put on my windshield wipers, the rear wiper went on automatically. It got stuck against the rack. Fortunately, it didn't cause any lasting damage. And, of course, it's not the rack's fault!
Great Product!
July 8, 2016
Did what it was supposed to do for half the price. I carry a street bike and a beach cruiser with no problems. I plan to do a cross country trip with this and don't foresee any problems. I will get a couple small bungie cords just for extra safety but it's only a precaution. I like that the position is adjustable depending on which set of straps you tighten first. For a lower fit that allows the bike to sit a little further from the trunk tighten the lower strap than the upper and visa versa for a higher closer fit. Great Product!!
1000 miles=zero problems
August 16, 2015
Purchased this carrier to transport 1 womens cruiser bike on a 2013 Honda Civic sedan down to FL from OH in July. It performed flawlessly. I didn't buy any extra straps, I just looped the excess around itself and tied it. Also didn't mess with the extender rod for a womens bike.Your bike will just hang kinda cockeyed. I was extremely paranoid at first but any fears were put to rest after the 3rd or 4th time of stopping and checking for any signs of loosening etc.. Didn't budge for 1000 miles! In this case it was all highway/interstate driving so I can't say how it would do on bumpy or rough back roads. Reviews that said their bikes fell off or something must have been improperly installed or for the wrong type of vehicle. My only concern(which didn't become an issue) is that it does pretty much obscure your license plate. Fantastic bargain
Nice :)
February 21, 2015
I struggled so badly to install this. I don't know if I did it right, but BE CAREFUL not to squeeze off your fingers when putting together the thin silver rod to the hole. It nearly got mine! DX its a very manual bike rack. Meaning that you have to hook it on and off when you want to use it and then put it away so people don't steal it and so on. It's my first bike rack so I don't know how others are lol, but it's very secure. I mean, I don't drive like a maniac when I have this on my car but if I have to drive fast of course on a bump will make it jump but it's still secure. Careful if you have a spoiler on your car. Im not sure if the options for the cars know if your car has a spoiler or not, but I used it on my boyfriends and it scratched it :( so ask if the option isn't there! Good back rack overall, does the job! (:
Did what it was supposed to do
April 27, 2014
I bought this to bring my bike to campus and it has been highly functional and useful for what I need. The car I use it on is a 2007 Honda Accord. This product overall worked well enough for what I needed it to do. Installation and assembly was simple and straightforward. It holds 2 bikes, but I've only done it with 1. I keep the bike on the rack closest to the car and the wheel does turn into the car when driving but this hasn't damaged the car in anyway and is probably like that on most racks. Some disadvantages is that it doesn't "feel" secure. I've never had the product fall off while driving thankfully but it doesn't always feel like it's safe and secured to the car. There are 2 hooks that go on top of the trunk lid. They don't always line up symmetrically and 1 hook seems to do a lot more of the work than the other.Another caveat is that the bottom hook isn't always stable and can fall off the bottom bumper. It's partly due to my poor skill perhaps because I have adjusted the tightness so it grips it better but I can't shake off the fact that it doesn't give me the 100% confidence and safety knowing it will secure the bikes. However, I've used it many times and have had no problems. Never fallen off. Other pluses are its cheap, portable, small and easy to store. Good product overall, no problems yet after 2 years.

Thank you
August 16, 2017
This is a great and affordable bike rack compared to a lot of other bike racks out there. I did notice that the straps closest to the trunk of my car when my bike is up the pedal of the bike is hitting my trunk, so it is awfully close. I will have to see what I can do about that later on if I ever do need to use both, but for now I can just place my bike on the one farthest away from the trunk.
Works but bikes are close to vehicle.
June 8, 2017
It works, but bikes are very close to the car. Make sure to buy lots of budgie cords and something to put between to bike and car so that you don't get a scratch.
I will be buying more.

Works OK, but too scary!
May 23, 2014
When I booked a full-size car on the website of Hertz, I thought it should be a sedan, that's the reason why I ordered this bike rack, because the customer review shows it works excellent on a car with trunk. But when I got the car, I was surprised that the so called full-size car is a mini SUV! Luckly, this bike rack could also work on hatchback, so I could use it.I drove from southern Illinois to Houston TX, it's a long trip. When I drove on highway, I saw my bike float up and down, just like dancing. I was so scary and stop the car on emergency lane twice to check the bike rack. And whenever I stop to refuel or have a rest, I also checked the bike rack. While, it never show a significant displacement of the rack, just the bike became more and more incline. Finally, I arrived the destination, the car is fine, the rack is fine, the bike is fine. But I could never forget the horror that the bike flying behind the car.Maybe next time, when I decide to use the bike rack, I should make sure the car I rent is a sedan.
2nd Time Buying
March 17, 2012
I bought one of these from walmart.com about two years ago for my bike and was pretty happy with it. Two things I did not like were that the strap which goes to the bottom of your bumper or trunk had been weather beaten so much that it broke and rendered the rack useless when I went to go for a ride this season so I bought a second one. The other thing I was not too thrilled about was that it says it is a two bike rack. Granted there are two places and straps on it and after much maneuvering and playing with the pedals, handlebars, and spokes of the two bikes, they finally fit, it shouldn't have to be such a difficult time to put two bikes on the bike rack that was supposedly designed for two bikes. The rack for just my bike works great which is primarily what I use it for. The rack is built well, and it is easy to mount and dismount from my car. For the price, I feel this is a solid bike rack. I would recommend something else if you plan on using more than one bike at a time on this rack.
Decent bike rack but not without some issues
August 29, 2011
First of all I did save a lot of money purchasing this bike rack. It was convenient for me because it seems the only bike racks in my area are for 3 bikes and they are double the price. I did understand as well that this may not be the ideal bike rack given its price and some of the bad ratings on Amazon. This was the first bike rack I bought so I had a learning curve towards mounting the rack. But once I learned, it is not all that difficult to mount. The threads though tend to twist easily if you try to hurry and not pay attention. The straps though do hold the bike securely and I found it easy to get both of my bikes on when needed. My biggest issue though is I just do not trust this bike rack. I live in hilly terrain with curvy roads with its complimenting pot holes. The first time I used it I went on a short trip (8 miles) and when I went to remove the bike the left hook at the top of the trunk had came all the way loose. I fiddled around with it after my biking trip and after 30 minutes I felt confident enough to drive. Next biking trip the same thing happened. Before I left I had spent a lot of time trying to make sure the hooks and straps were evenly distributing the stress of the bike and tied 2 good knots for each strap. Still the left side came loose. Afterwards, I decided I needed to use two rubber hook straps to firmly secure it. Now since I have done that I feel more confident that the rack will be able to perform its duties and now the left side does not loosen.Overall it is not a bad purchase I just do not think it is ideal for bikers that live in hilly or mountainous terrians unless you have ways of strapping it down more securely. The need for some patience if you are a first time user of a bike rack is needed as well.

Beware Strap Breakage
May 8, 2015
I had a problem with this particular model. The single strap that attaches via clip to the part of the trunk lid closest to the rear window snapped -- frayed and broke. The place on the strap where it broke was kind of "elastic" and I believe weaker than the rest. Lucky for me it broke just as I was pulling out of my driveway but the whole bike and rest of rack hit the ground. This part of the product is unsafe IMO should be a recall. I was able to find a substitute strap to replace the worn out original.
Easy to setup, but does not support all the bikes.
February 12, 2015
This is ok product for the price you pay. I had a road bike, and it worked fine with that, though I never used it to carry my bike for more than 30 miles. Issue is with mountain bike, I have a trek mountain bike, and it does not fit on this stand. So before you buy this mount, please make sure your bike is supported.Adv: 1. Cheap 2. Very easy to setup 3. LightDisadv: 1. It does not feel strong, and somehow I could never trust it with carrying bike to longer distances. 2. Not all the bikes fit on this mount, at least trek caliber does not.
Don't waste your money.
June 7, 2014
I am not a mechanic or engineer, but I have put a lot of things together over the years. This was very challenging to get together despite being 90% assembled on arrival. You need a ton of strength (and in my case also pliers) to get the metal pins into the holes. Once assembled I got it on the car fairly easily but the straps are way too long and flimsy. I had zero confidence it would hold my bike securely - especially with just 3 straps when most similar racks have 6. If you have a $100 WalMart bike you are only taking a mile or two you may be OK - but I am going to return this and get something less flimsy and more stable.
Allen Deluxe 2-Bike Trunk Mount Rack
May 10, 2012
For the price....I guess this is a good buy, however AFTER using it....It makes me very nervous! It works ok for one bike. But for two...not so sure. I have a mountain bike and my son has a BMX, and when the two bikes are on the rack together it doesn't seem to be sturdy OR roomy enough. His pedals had to go through my spokes......NOT A GOOD IDEA! Easy enough to install but with only having 3 straps to secure it to the trunk of the car made me nervous. I wish I would have shopped around more and did a little more research before purchasing. Would love to return it if it were an option. I really wouldn't recommend this unless it was to transport a child's bike. Spend a little more money, and get something you have ease of mind with while using. I really would NOT recommend this.

Dont trust the car fit list.
June 20, 2017
Does NOT fit a Hyundai Tiburon despite saying it does on the box. The hooks are about 5" too short for the hatchback/coupe set up of the Tiburon. I guarantee it works with just about any normal sedan/compact, but not a lot of hatchbacks or cars where whole trunk comes up.
SCUFFED UP PAINT ON MY CAR!
June 6, 2017
Not happy with the product as it scuffed up the paint on my new car! :( See photos. I cried. I love my car and take good care of it and I am so upset that this product did this. My advice would be to go to a dollar store and get some swim noodles and use those ALSO with the product so you don't ruin your car paint also.

This product can not handle 2 bikes and can not handle high speeds. The strap snapped on the highway and my bikes fell off. Everyone was safe and i just got a few scratches on my car and a flat bike tire. It could have been a lot worse. Allen Sports said this rack fits with my 2016 Ford Explorer but my local bike store said no. I would not trust this product.
Allen did not honor lifetime waranty! Rubber mounts split against car was unstable & had to buy additional straps to secure bike
October 27, 2015
Box says lifetime warranty, do not believe it! Allen would not honor their warranty "because it was not on their website"! We took it on only 2 long distance trips, each time we had to add two additional straps to make the bikes stable on the back of the car. We stopped several times trying to make it work, finally I purchased extra trucker straps to make the bike stable that were about the cost of the of the rack since we were on the road. It really should come with two more straps that go right to left and left to right, might be fine if you don't travel over 45 mph. Very dissatisfied and would never purchase a product from Allen again. The did not even try to make amends, I asked if we could upgrade, purchase extra straps, and asked if they would replaced the rubber mounts that were splitting, they would not work with us at all. I would recommend to buy from another company that will stand by their products. We would have returned it but needed it for another trip, and did not have time to get a different one instead.
Not for nice cars
January 3, 2015
Use this bike rack on car you don't care about because you're gonna scratch it somewhere before you get to your destination. I purchased it to carry our two bikes to local bike trails. I was a little trepidacious about mounting two bikes behind my Acura TL. Well I had it secured like the instructions said but the straps still slipped under tension and I wound up with a nice deep scratch on my trunk. Like I said, use this on a car that you wouldn't mind scratching to pieces. Also, it was very doubtfull that it was even going to fit both a mans and ladies bike since thd crossbars are in different locations. I'm going to go with a hitch type rack and chalk the whole experience up to "buyer beware".
Terrible product cause scratches and dullness on paint. Not a good Product. Do Not Buy.
July 30, 2014
Not a very sturdy product!Had it on a 2014 subaru outback which it said it fit.first incident: the rubber protector vibrated over so the metal part of the rack was rubbing and scratching on the trunk of the car.second incident: the bottom strap broke while driving on the freeway which cause bouncing and the rack to fall off with bikes on it. which drug the bikes on the freeway until I could get over and stop. Looked at my car took a big scratch out o fthe bumper and back hatch.Third: incident the rubber pieces that originally moved over and scratched the paint now rubbed the gloss off of the paint of the car.All in all not happy with the product and will be trying to file a return and get my money back becasue otherwise I will just throw it in the garbage. Becasue I will not put this product back on my brand new car. It has caused me to have 3 scratches and 2 dull non-gloss spots on the paint.I will be putting a hitch on the car and buying a proper bike rack now.Very dissapointed with the product. But I guess I get what I paid for Cheap price reflects the product which is a cheap product.
