Can't beat the OEM GE filter for quality
March 12, 2016
After my red warning (filter) light on the Fridge came on and water started tasting really bad, I changed the filter to a real GE OEM filter, not a knock off Chinese copy that doesn't filter as many chemicals as the OEM version. After running about 2 gallons of water through the dispenser, water is back to normal.
Works perfect every time.
September 21, 2014
Fit perfect every time. Solid 6 months use out of each with our family of 3 very heavy water drinkers. We use a lot of ice too and still get 6 months out of each filter. I tried going past the 6 months and with a few days the ice cubes would taste a little off. We all drink at least eight 8 ounce glasses of water a day, more on weekends when we are home and more when its hot. Have never had a problem taking the old off and putting the new on. Never had a drip. Love that I don't need a tool to take the filter on or off just my hand. We've had the GE French Door fridge that uses these for 6 years and the water tastes great each and every glassful. Tried an off brand one time... leaked and could never get it to stop. Never bothered again. Only bought the off brand because it was in stock at Loews.
Buy the Brand Name Product
March 14, 2014
Although there are cheaper, non-brand name versions of this GE water filter, they do not last as long as the original! I have purchased both tested them both for duration. We have marginally hard water, and as a result, the life of the filter is shorter than those whose water is not as hard. Knowing that, I want to buy the filter that lasts longest, getting more for my money, and reducing the waste of throwing away more discount filters. NOTE: some communities have a place to deposit these for recycling.
GE SmartWater MWF Refrigerator Water Filter
August 24, 2013
This is one of the easiest filters I have ever seen to replace. You don't have to worry about shutting the water supply off before installing the filter. The old filter was a little stubborn and did not want to leave its momma, but it finally gave up and we all got along fine. I am new to this type filter since I have only had my fridge that uses this filter not quite a year and the "replace filter" light came on. I thought that was little soon but it was the original. I will update this when I have to replace it. Not sure how the fridge or the filter knows when it needs changed (could have just reset the light without changing the filter but .....) but thought I would replace it and see how long a replacement filter lasts.
GE MWF filter
April 29, 2013
These filters are great they make the water from the frig taste like bottled water at $31+ each they should but not only is the chlorine taste gone from the water but it is also gone from the ice. They are suppose to last six months and this is the first one that I have replace in our new refrigerator. The refrigerator tells you when to change the filter. I cut the old filter apart to see what it was made of and it is a thick piece of charcoal inside a thick PVC housing. Changing these filters is extremely simple just unscrew the old one and fill the new one with water line up the marks on the new one and twist it in place. No truning of the water it automaticly finish filling with water they recommend flushing the new filter by running a gallon and a half of water to purg the system and you are good for another six months. You could save alot of money by using the water from the frig instead of buying water not to mention all the hassel of lifting, carring and disposing of the empty bottles. So it is much more eco friendly than bottled water.
Can't go wrong with using the name brand.
January 21, 2013
In the past, on a different model refrigerator, I used no-name or generic filters to save a buck. For the first few weeks, they worked fine and I was glad I saved some money. However, the ice maker slowly started having issues. Don't want to spend any time on that issue or the trouble shooting I went into, but the root cause of the ice maker issues was the cheap water filters I used. I reverted back to OEM filter and the problem was resolved. So, until a decent generic comes along, I'm forced to use these expensive OEM filters. The good news is they work really well.

The Pure Line MWF Water Filter is GREAT
June 30, 2017
I was looking for a less expensive MWF compatible filter for my GE Refrigerator. I found one and ordered it, but it didn't work. By the time I got around to installing it the return window had passed. So I tried one more time to find a less expensive option to the GE manufactured filter. I ordered the Pure Line MWF filter and it arrived promptly in two days via Amazon Prime. My GE Made filter was by this time dispensing water by the drop. I quickly unwrapped the Pure Line filter and added some tap water to it per the instructions and installed it. Immediately my water dispenser began gushing clear clean water with volume and velocity I hadn't seen since the refrigerator was new. I am very happy with this purchase and hope they remain in business so I can reorder future filters so long as this refrigerator lasts.
Works as well as the GE filter at a lower price
May 4, 2017
I have been using this in place of a GE filter for almost six months now. I have ordered a second one as it is almost time for the light to come on again. The filter has performed well and I have had no issues with it. As far as I can tell it filters just as well as the GE one at a much lower price.
Good filters
March 15, 2017
Good filters - work well and give a nice stream of water. Water tastes great and I did not have any issues using them.I have tried other kinds of compatible filters and these work best and I don't see any difference between these and the real ones.I like the stickers that show the replacement date.
Wish I had some plants to water with the waste..
March 7, 2017
After purging quite a few cups of water, close to 3 gallons as the box says the water is crystal clear and tastes crisp as expected. Wish I had some plants to water with the waste... I'm glad the description lists some of the things that it's tested to filter out. The other filters available don't list what is filtered, so you don't really know what you're buying, could just be an empty plastic shell with a coffee filter for all you know.
Tastes great!
February 25, 2016
This filter works perfectly and gives out great tasting water!!! It was quite the event installing it as I wasn't aware that taking off the old filter would cause massive water spewing everywhere with force, so I flooded my fridge before I got this filter on... Would have been nice to have been warned about that on the instructions, to turn off water supply or something! But after getting it installed and flushed, it tastes great, has good pressure, and I'm very pleased with my purchase!!
Great buy! Great taste!
July 30, 2015
Had to replace my GE MWF Filter but hated paying the $50 price tag that goes along with it. Read the reviews on this product and most gave it a high ranking. Thought we'd give it a try. One thing no reviewer commented on was how good the water tasted. We've been parting out this filter for several years now and tried a Brita replacement filter at one point. It was less expensive that the GE but the water taste wasn't as good. With this filter, the entire household agrees that it's the best tasting water we've had. So combine the lower price (< 1/2), 2 day prime delivery and great tasting water, it's a fantastic deal!

the product is fine, it's what it's supposed to be.... but to raise the price an additional $20 for a package of 2 since January 2016 is LUDICROUS. You should be ashamed of yourselves. Bad business practice
Bottoms up!
July 28, 2014
These water filters work well.. The water where I live is pretty drinkable right out of the tap, but just to be sure we run these in our fridge. They filter out a great deal if chemicals that could be hazardous to you.Don't be fooled by most, if not all of the knockoffs.. The cheaper filters only filter out some chemicals.. And generally not the really dangerous ones. While these are fairly expensive, they make us feel more comfortable knowing that our water is even more drinkable!
GE SmartWater Filter
September 4, 2013
Had a filter in for about a year before it said it needed to be replaced. Replacing it was easy. I have not noticed the water tasting any better; I thought that might happen with a fresher filter. Still happy nonetheless. I ordered the 2 pack so I would be prepared for when this one craps out.
Better Value at Amazon
October 21, 2012
Our GE Profile refrigerator requires the GE SmartWater filters for the water and ice options in the door (which I can't live without!). The filters are easy to install and work fine, although they do not filter large particles from the water, such as calcium (we have very hard well water). I emailed GE last year to ask why the filter could remove small particles like lead, mercury, etc., but couldn't filter larger particles (thus the 4 stars, not 5). GE's response was that it wasn't "designed" to do so. In any case, I purchased the filters from Amazon because the price was at least $15 lower per filter compared to the retail warehouse store - and Amazon's great shipping ensured we got the filters quickly.
Works ok. But one seemed to wear out sooner than the original
March 26, 2012
I ordered this filter model for my GE fridge. I got a 2 pack so I had a spare. After installing the first one (as a replacement to the original filter that came with my fridge when it was new), it didn't seem to last as long as the first one. By that, i mean that the flow in my water dispenser slowed to a trickle after a month or two. So, either that means there was a lot of particles that the replacement filter was catching (which causes the slow flow) and it needed to be replaced sooner,... or there is something different about this filter versus the original. THe second one (of this 2-pack) is on it's 4th month and the flow hasn't slowed down yet, so it still has some life in it. Not sure what causes the difference.I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 3 because it is the recommended part (from GE), but I would like for there to be more consistency in amount of time that it will work before having to replace.P.S. I've noticed that the price on these fluctuates quite a bit. I suggest you add this item to your wish list and keep an eye on the price.
in this case it's probably better to stick with the right filter.
January 20, 2012
i did considerable research regarding the replacement of my parent's ge refrigerator water filter.using amazon mainly i decided to stick with original factory replacement filters.there were two other manufacturers who made compatible? mwf water filters.they were considerably cheaper in price, but i noticed the reviews were unfavorable on the most part.not going to take that chance.i scoured the internet for the best price on the ge filters and kept coming back to amazon.not cheap, but hey better than what i could find.very easy to install.make sure you follow the directions like letting it run several minutes or 1 1/2 gallons after installing it.i used a rubbermaid bucket to catch the water.the water tastes just fine to me.no complaints.they say to replace the filter every 6 months.

Great deal for the price
April 5, 2017
Great deal for the price. It is highly pressurized when you first put it in, just be sure to follow the instructions so you don't have to take it back out. Also, the instructions say to run 3-4 gallons of water out of it after installation. It did have a weird taste the first couple days, but it went away and the water tastes great now. I think a lot of other reviews didn't follow instructions or give it any time. The water flow is now better than ever as well for my ge fridge.
Good but...
October 25, 2016
I was really excited to get a replacement filter for less but when it came I could not install it. I tried all of the suggestions but to no avail. But my father got it on his first try. I don't know what he did differently but I have been happy with it since. Will I buy it again? Yeah probably but I'll get help to do it. The water tastes fine
We love the price
September 13, 2016
We love the price, and the filter looks identical to our GE filter, except for the configuration on top which makes it compatible with various manufacturers’ refrigerators. The filter, however, was at first difficult to fit into our GE refrigerator. After fifteen minutes of frustration, I removed the 2 top fridge shelves so I could look up into the refrigerator’s receiving socket and match that with the filter’s top outlines. It would have been much easier if this filter was marked with an arrow (as is the original GE MWF filter) that aligns with the marking on the GE refrigerator filter housing. Then you know where to push up. Perhaps markings could be placed on this filter and ID'd for all—or most— of the machines which the filter can fit. Anyway, having made a match for the fit, I found that I had to push extraordinarily hard to move the filter upward until I heard water being released by the fridge. After you realize that they haven’t sent the wrong filter, you’re going to be very satisfied with this filter, assuming it performs on a par with the original.
A PERFECT FIT
March 8, 2016
This was our first time replacing the filter, as the refrigerator is new to us, and we've never had a "water-connected" refrigerator before. Changing the filter was so simple, but I did find it curious that the accompanying literature told me to first remove the foil seal from the top -- and there WAS none there. We went ahead & used it anyway. Thank you for your prompt fulfillment and delivery of our order -- it even arrived on a Sunday, which was a big & pleasant surprise to us.
Good Filter, Great Price
February 5, 2016
Great price on this filter - about half the cost of an original GE filter. Easy to change. I just ran about 5 glasses of water to get it to run clear.I bought this for a GE side by side Arctica and it fits perfectly. Would give it a 5 star rating but just installed it a few days ago and not sure how long it will last.
Good Filter-Good Price
July 23, 2015
I bought this filter for our GE refrigerator. The filter was very easy to install but it would have been nice if they put a mark on it indicating where to start when screwing it into the receptacle. The flow from this filter is very good. After installing it I ran about 1 gallon of water through the filter to ensure it was clear of any chemicals/impurities related to production. This item did not come with any directions but it did have stickers that can be used to show when you install it and help you remember when to re-order (if your refrigerator does not have an automatic alert when filter needs to be replaced). The price point on this filter was about the best that I was able to find and I will be re-ordering from this company in the future.

FIlter is great...but expensive
December 3, 2013
Works as advertised. Able to go almost six (6) months between changes. I use this to filter water before I put the water into my coffee maker (which is also filtered). We also drink water at dinner. Taste is great. Only issue is that G.E. has raised their prices dramatically. The cost is getting prohibitive...but you have little choice if you want the water filtration system to work properly.
Expensive and don't last long enough
October 12, 2011
Our new GE refrigerator has a water filter requiring this product. I am grateful to have access to filtered water, but these filters are expensive and don't last that long given the price. I MIGHT get two months of "easy" use then the filter becomes so clogged that the rate of water being dispensed is so slow that it is agonizing to get a glass of water from the refrigerator. Other than cost and useful life, I have no complaints. Definitely cheaper to purchase in bulk.
Items Works But Not What I Ordered
March 18, 2011
Ordered MWF filter but received MWFINT (International Version), the packaging states "For International Use Only". After doing some research determined that this filter was the same as the MWF just packaged differently. The filter has been installed and is working just as well as the original. Two stars in this review were lost because these details should have been stated in the description instead of sending out this version of the filter that did not match what I ordered and having to waste time researching it.

LASTED HALF AS LONG AS IT SHOULD HAVE
March 12, 2016
These things are supposed to last for 6 months (my other ge filters have) The first one of these I used only lasted 3 months before no water would come through it. Took it off and on several times in hopes, but finally replaced it with the other one in the 2 pack. I certainly hope this will last longer as these filters are EXPENSIVE!!!!
Not much of a difference
December 8, 2015
Filters the water but not by much. I don't have much choice in water filters...have to buy the one that fits my refrigerator . I tested the water compared to the facet water and there wasn't much difference. The facet water tested at 528 (ewwwwww) and the filtered water from the fridge tested at 498. Still, it makes me feel better to drink from this but still pretty disgusting. Not sure what exactly it is filtering. Wish they would make one that actually cleans the water to a decent level.

Well, so far I don't like 1 out of the 2. It leaks. I have never had this problem before and hopefully the second one does not do the same when its time to be changed.
They don't last and are way too expensive now.
November 17, 2013
I bought this exact 2-pack from Amazon for $62.46 in 2012. Then paid $65 early in 2013 for the same. The original filter that came with this GE refrigerator lasted about six months. The two filters from 2012 lasted about the same time. But the filters from 2013 lasted less than a month, and we use approximately one gallon of water a day from the refrigerator - that's all! The water source (city) has been the same throughout, BTW. I got my money back for the last two filters, but will not use the filters again.; especially now when they cost so much more. The filters appeared to do OK filtering the water, but my wife did not like the taste, so she drinks bottled water and uses bottled water for cooking. I have been drinking the unfiltered water for several months and it is fine by me.

Tastes like tap water
June 24, 2016
I wouldn't buy again. It fit correctly, instructions were fine, it didn't leak or clog up. There was no cloudiness or particles. But the water tasted just like tap water, as if there was no filter at all. I use a counter top Britta filter for coffee and the water from the Britta tastes much better. I had a different brand (not GE or Kenmore) fridge filter before that had better tasting water.

No water coming out
April 21, 2016
I bought a 2 pack of these on Amazon last year (2015). The first one works fine. Early this year I put the second filter in my refrigerator, however, no water coming out. For a while I thought the fridge is broken until I read online that it could be caused by the filter. So I went to Home Depot to get one (paid $44.88 for it) and the problem solved! So now I'm seriously suspect this is a knock off product, not the genuine GE MWF filter. I saw small black particles coming out of the filter when I unscrewed it from the fridge. See the picture attached.

October 11, 2015
Absolutely HATE GE MWF filters. The darn water flow is always great for the first month, but then ebbs to a trickle...I've tried emptying the filter in case it's air trapped in the filter, to no avail. This is a horrible filter and a horrible refrigerator...
Does Not Work on my GE Model GSE25HMHBHES

Was not in a blue box as pictured but in white. And did not work, inner gasket that's on the old one is not in these so water would not flow. GE MWF Refrigerator Water Filters do not appear to be GENUINE GE PARTS
July 8, 2015
Unfortunately this product from BLFlores Depot was defective or not original. I only know this because I re-ordered directly from Amazon.com (as shipper) and when I received the 2 filters they were packaged differently (Sealed Together from Amazon) vs. packaged separately (From BLFlores Depot). It looked sealed but when I installed on refrigerator, both filters were obviously defective and water would not flow. When I re-attached the old filter, then it worked. When I received the new filters directly from Amazon.Com (as Shipper), they also immediately worked.I returned and got a prompt refund.

Chinese unregulated untested compatible water filter scores 2 thumbs and 2 toes DOWN. Made good water taste bad.
July 6, 2017
At any price, this compatible water filter was a waste of time and money. I purchases 3 to get a really good price, and it turned out to be a real bad purchase at any price. The filter seemed to install fine, but within a week or two, Yuk, Yuk, the water started tasting awful. Replaced it with the 2nd of three purchased, and it resulted in the same experience. Installed fine and water taste improved but within a couple weeks the water tasted like Yuk again. Replaced the 2nd with the 3rd of 3, and the water improved taste for a week or two and returned to Yuk tasking water. Thinking something must really must be wrong, I cut one filter in half with my saw. It all looked clean and nothing obviously jumped out. without resources to test the carbon filter for defects or impurities, the Yuk taste from all 3 filters was all I had to rate this product 4 THUMBS DOWN. (Can I count my two big toes as thumbs?). Some other reviewers complained of restricted water flow. My guess is the carbon filter may be sub-grade, or damaged during assembly, resulting in fragments of filter material clogging the water flow. Others have mentioned the product and packaging have no signs of certification being found for the quality or standards that should be required for any water purification product. In short, this UN-certified Chinese manufactured (Compatible???) product made our reasonable tasting water taste like Yuk.https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00YV210RA/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_0

April 25, 2017
I'm very disappointed. I ordered one of these and the water trickled slowly. Even though I carefully followed the instructions. Every time I used it, I swore I should replaced it. When the light came on indicating it was time to change the filter, I decided, I probably just had a defective one and bought another of these. It was even worse. Now I've ordered the part from GE, even though it costs 4 times as much.
We used it for 3 weeks and the water had a funny taste since the beginning that never went away
October 23, 2016
After installing filter, water came out dark and then a few minutes later in clear up, wish was normal. We used it for 3 weeks and the water had a funny taste since the beginning that never went away. Actually tap water was much better taste than the filtered water. Our family was getting sick of the stomach so we decided to change for an original GE Filter. After swapping filters, automatically the water changed taste and our stomach ache went away too. I can't recommend this filter, please use original GE for better health.
One star cause water has a funny taste from the very beginning
September 26, 2016
One star cause water has a funny taste from the very beginning, Bought this generic brand, trying to save money, not happy with it, always have bought the GE one, the generic does not filter as good as the GE, now that I have something to compare with, will never buy this brand again, will go back to GE, will pay twice as much but will be well worth it, we drink a lot of water in our house so its very important for water to have a good taste or should I say no taste.
Stay away!
May 11, 2016
Edit: Terrible. It always tasted a little off, but I thought it was just me. But then it got progressively worse. After just a few weeks it also began tasting grainy, which is when I was sure it wasn't my imagination and I removed it. Who knows what this unrated, unregulated knockoff was adding to our water? Who knows what I was stupidly letting my daughter ingest? Disgusting, I would have been better off just using the bypass cap and not filtering at all.I'll only buy GE OEM from now on, even though it's ridiculously expensive.------------Works.Issues:1) Took longer to flush out sediment than GE OEM. Not a big deal.2) There is no evidence it is actually filtering anything to any standard. Not certified. In fact, how do I know it isn't introducing more elements than it's filtering? Especially since we have generally very good tap water quality.3) Taste seems off? It's okay, but not the same. Although that might be a placebo effect.I don't think I'll buy again.
Flow rate cut after a week
April 15, 2016
Bought this filter because of all the good reviews, but haven't had the same experience. Maybe I just got a bad one, but within a week of installation, the water flow rate cut in half after just a couple of ounces. Took the filter out and shook it to see if the problem was the filter or the fridge line. That fixed the problem for a couple of days then it happened again. Have now done that multiple times and the problem has gotten progressively worse - now it only lets out about one ounce before it cuts off and shaking it only fixes for a day at most.Installed a new one from Walmart - have used their Great Value brand for 2 years with no issues - the problem seems to be gone so I know the issue is with the filter not my fridge.

General Electric replacement water filter for refrigerators

Works with a wide-range of GE models

Replaces GE water filter part numbers GWF, GWFA, GWF01, GWF06, MWFA

It eliminates the expense and inconvenience of purchasing bottled water at a store or scheduling home delivery of bottled water

Should be replaced every 6 months

Very easy to install with clear instructions.

Costs less than GE without compromising quality or flow rate

Replaces GE MWF, GWF, GWFA, GWF01, GWF06, MWFA

Tastes great by leaving potentially healthy, beneficial minerals while removing chlorine, other chemicals and contaminants.

The quality of the filter is the same as the branded filter but costs less.
