Five Star Reviews: | 77% We have been using these for over 3 years and they work great for us. March 29, 2017 We have been using these since we bought our new house 3 years ago and they work great for us. I never tasted the water from our refrigerator with the filter that we are supposed to use based on what the manufactures says we are supposed to use, but I can only say that our water tastes like water, which is all I'm really asking for. Great generic filter October 4, 2016 So happy to have found generic filters that work! These are a fraction of the price and I haven't noticed any differences. Water tastes the same and dispenses at same rate (which is slow on our fridge but that was the case with the name brand as well). Mine lasted the whole 6 mos- the change filter light came on right around the 6 mos mark and I didn't notice any change in taste or dispense rate. I am actually about to order these again as I just put in my last one- it's so nice to know that you have a backup ready when that light comes on (and that it didn't cost a fortune)! Good quality replacement filters May 24, 2016 These are our 'go-to' filters when we need replacements. I have re-ordered these filters for some time now. They work great with our GE that is about 7 years old now. And, if you have an Amazon Echo, you can simply ask Alexa to reorder for you - the next thing you hear is the ding of an incoming email confirming your order. It doesn't get any easier that this. Excellent, reliable seller AND product! July 19, 2014 Works great, no difference from expensive OEM part. Installed same and have been using daily with no issues at all. Was very anxious that might have complication (fit, clogging, flow, etc.) but have none. Not sure why I need to replace my filter every 3months, since the regular tap water looks fine, but this will be a MUCH more cost effective option for my GE Cafe fridge. Wish I found this product a year ago.The seller was excellent, delivered promptly-no issues at all! Will definitely reorder. Crystal clear and fresh drinking water! June 30, 2014 Update, 10/27/15: These have been perfectly great filters, our water from the refrig dispenser comes out crystal clear and what I/you would expect of good clean water and fresh tasting. My previous order was 3 of them, I just inserted the last one and I'm preparing to order some more for the future. Or GE refrigerator tells us when it needs to be replaced, 6-8 months, depending if we've been gone on vacation or not.I'm not even going to look at any other brand as we are extremely pleased with EcoAqua. Last time I ordered a 3 pack was a better deal, today a 2 pack is cheaper... and as always I love ordering from Amazon! When our refrigerator needed a new filter I checked here on Amazon, which I always do first, and found these filters. They are a lot less cost than the GE brand, they fit perfectly and are doing an excellent job of filtering our well water. I can pour a glass of water from the sink faucet and one from the filtered refrigerator, the filtered is nice and clear and clean tasting, the sink glass isn't so clear. I highly recommend these filters. Works just as good as the OEM filters! April 12, 2014 I've always been a firm believer in using OEM replacement parts and filters in the past. However, I just can't see spending $50 every six months on a water filter for my fridge. So I figured I would try these. I purchased this 3 pack for what I would pay for one OEM filter from GE. This filter installs the same and is about the same size as the GE filter. I ran about 3 gallons of water through it before drinking as they recommend in the instructions. Honestly, the water quality is great. I can't tell any difference in the taste from this fllter or the GE filter. If you're looking for a high quality, low cost replacement to the OEM filter in your fridge, this is your filter! | 75% Can't beat the OEM GE filter for quality March 12, 2016 After my red warning (filter) light on the Fridge came on and water started tasting really bad, I changed the filter to a real GE OEM filter, not a knock off Chinese copy that doesn't filter as many chemicals as the OEM version. After running about 2 gallons of water through the dispenser, water is back to normal. Works perfect every time. September 21, 2014 Fit perfect every time. Solid 6 months use out of each with our family of 3 very heavy water drinkers. We use a lot of ice too and still get 6 months out of each filter. I tried going past the 6 months and with a few days the ice cubes would taste a little off. We all drink at least eight 8 ounce glasses of water a day, more on weekends when we are home and more when its hot. Have never had a problem taking the old off and putting the new on. Never had a drip. Love that I don't need a tool to take the filter on or off just my hand. We've had the GE French Door fridge that uses these for 6 years and the water tastes great each and every glassful. Tried an off brand one time... leaked and could never get it to stop. Never bothered again. Only bought the off brand because it was in stock at Loews. Buy the Brand Name Product March 14, 2014 Although there are cheaper, non-brand name versions of this GE water filter, they do not last as long as the original! I have purchased both tested them both for duration. We have marginally hard water, and as a result, the life of the filter is shorter than those whose water is not as hard. Knowing that, I want to buy the filter that lasts longest, getting more for my money, and reducing the waste of throwing away more discount filters. NOTE: some communities have a place to deposit these for recycling. GE SmartWater MWF Refrigerator Water Filter August 24, 2013 This is one of the easiest filters I have ever seen to replace. You don't have to worry about shutting the water supply off before installing the filter. The old filter was a little stubborn and did not want to leave its momma, but it finally gave up and we all got along fine. I am new to this type filter since I have only had my fridge that uses this filter not quite a year and the "replace filter" light came on. I thought that was little soon but it was the original. I will update this when I have to replace it. Not sure how the fridge or the filter knows when it needs changed (could have just reset the light without changing the filter but .....) but thought I would replace it and see how long a replacement filter lasts. GE MWF filter April 29, 2013 These filters are great they make the water from the frig taste like bottled water at $31+ each they should but not only is the chlorine taste gone from the water but it is also gone from the ice. They are suppose to last six months and this is the first one that I have replace in our new refrigerator. The refrigerator tells you when to change the filter. I cut the old filter apart to see what it was made of and it is a thick piece of charcoal inside a thick PVC housing. Changing these filters is extremely simple just unscrew the old one and fill the new one with water line up the marks on the new one and twist it in place. No truning of the water it automaticly finish filling with water they recommend flushing the new filter by running a gallon and a half of water to purg the system and you are good for another six months. You could save alot of money by using the water from the frig instead of buying water not to mention all the hassel of lifting, carring and disposing of the empty bottles. So it is much more eco friendly than bottled water. Can't go wrong with using the name brand. January 21, 2013 In the past, on a different model refrigerator, I used no-name or generic filters to save a buck. For the first few weeks, they worked fine and I was glad I saved some money. However, the ice maker slowly started having issues. Don't want to spend any time on that issue or the trouble shooting I went into, but the root cause of the ice maker issues was the cheap water filters I used. I reverted back to OEM filter and the problem was resolved. So, until a decent generic comes along, I'm forced to use these expensive OEM filters. The good news is they work really well. |
Four Star Reviews: | 13% Great, but include an "O" ring and it will be better! July 16, 2017 These filters work well. No need to pay 3x the price for a GE filter. Filters need changing and you could spend a fortune for genuine GE -- or play it smart and buy these filters. Word of caution: they do not come with "O" rings so save your old one. hubby will drink the water now! November 10, 2015 I put off getting replacements because thry are spendy and our water isn't terrible but hubby stopped drinking water so I thought it would be best to order. For $43 I got 3 and they are suppose to last 6 months each. When I first had my hubby install and I used it for the first time the water went crazy and came out extremely fast and splattered everywhere. Getting a glass of water is quite loud now compared to our old one. And by loud I mean loud. I thought the back of our fridge had a leak... it comes out faster still age many uses but does not splatter anymore. I'm happy to have a replacements though! Great price, water flow good February 21, 2015 Great price, water flow good, clarity good, no bad taste. Just installed so need more time to evaluate further. Don't see any difference from the Home Depot or the GE filters. Do wish it were 'Made in USA' however. Really prefer to buy products made here and support our workers unfortunately GE wants to make too much on this supply for what the cost is. Home Depot's is better priced and appears as equal at this time however it is still quite a bit more expensive. and they are all pretty much the same (except for the one's people actually ... February 12, 2015 May not be "certified" as highly as name brand, but certification is expensive. I suspect the inside of all of them is just an activated carbon filter, and they are all pretty much the same (except for the one's people actually complain about.) (I haven't cut one open to look). Housing isn't as fancy or heavy, but it works and doesn't leak. No taste or odor problems. Just a filter, lots cheaper. I HAVE FAITH IN THIS PRODUCT March 28, 2014 This is a "faith" review. By that I mean I guess this filter is doing its job but that is because I have faith. It's impossible to look inside the canister and evaluate the filters effectiveness. I also don't have the ability to do a laboratory analysis. However it did install as advertised and visually the water looks good and I can not detect any difference in taste. So as I said, "I have faith that this GE Compatible Water Filter MWF GWF is doing its job." | 16% good product, bad distributor August 4, 2016 the product is fine, it's what it's supposed to be.... but to raise the price an additional $20 for a package of 2 since January 2016 is LUDICROUS. You should be ashamed of yourselves. Bad business practice Bottoms up! July 28, 2014 These water filters work well.. The water where I live is pretty drinkable right out of the tap, but just to be sure we run these in our fridge. They filter out a great deal if chemicals that could be hazardous to you.Don't be fooled by most, if not all of the knockoffs.. The cheaper filters only filter out some chemicals.. And generally not the really dangerous ones. While these are fairly expensive, they make us feel more comfortable knowing that our water is even more drinkable! GE SmartWater Filter September 4, 2013 Had a filter in for about a year before it said it needed to be replaced. Replacing it was easy. I have not noticed the water tasting any better; I thought that might happen with a fresher filter. Still happy nonetheless. I ordered the 2 pack so I would be prepared for when this one craps out. Better Value at Amazon October 21, 2012 Our GE Profile refrigerator requires the GE SmartWater filters for the water and ice options in the door (which I can't live without!). The filters are easy to install and work fine, although they do not filter large particles from the water, such as calcium (we have very hard well water). I emailed GE last year to ask why the filter could remove small particles like lead, mercury, etc., but couldn't filter larger particles (thus the 4 stars, not 5). GE's response was that it wasn't "designed" to do so. In any case, I purchased the filters from Amazon because the price was at least $15 lower per filter compared to the retail warehouse store - and Amazon's great shipping ensured we got the filters quickly. Works ok. But one seemed to wear out sooner than the original March 26, 2012 I ordered this filter model for my GE fridge. I got a 2 pack so I had a spare. After installing the first one (as a replacement to the original filter that came with my fridge when it was new), it didn't seem to last as long as the first one. By that, i mean that the flow in my water dispenser slowed to a trickle after a month or two. So, either that means there was a lot of particles that the replacement filter was catching (which causes the slow flow) and it needed to be replaced sooner,... or there is something different about this filter versus the original. THe second one (of this 2-pack) is on it's 4th month and the flow hasn't slowed down yet, so it still has some life in it. Not sure what causes the difference.I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 3 because it is the recommended part (from GE), but I would like for there to be more consistency in amount of time that it will work before having to replace.P.S. I've noticed that the price on these fluctuates quite a bit. I suggest you add this item to your wish list and keep an eye on the price. in this case it's probably better to stick with the right filter. January 20, 2012 i did considerable research regarding the replacement of my parent's ge refrigerator water filter.using amazon mainly i decided to stick with original factory replacement filters.there were two other manufacturers who made compatible? mwf water filters.they were considerably cheaper in price, but i noticed the reviews were unfavorable on the most part.not going to take that chance.i scoured the internet for the best price on the ge filters and kept coming back to amazon.not cheap, but hey better than what i could find.very easy to install.make sure you follow the directions like letting it run several minutes or 1 1/2 gallons after installing it.i used a rubbermaid bucket to catch the water.the water tastes just fine to me.no complaints.they say to replace the filter every 6 months. |
Three Star Reviews: | 3% Economical August 22, 2017 Excellent price. Have been using one for a few weeks now, water still tastes a bit off. Now, the city water that is feeding it isn't exactly up to par either. Maybe the next one will taste better. I didn't have this taste with other filters. But water quality is always all over the place here. Always on boil notice... would be great if they would let me know, but I find out eventually Less effective than the GE filters. February 19, 2015 This water filter did a great job for about four months, then I began periodically noticing a metallic off taste, of the sort that I get from my tap water whenever the water company has just treated the water. In the past, using GE filters, I had routinely changed the filter every six months without any off taste occurring, even when I had another family living with me for a couple of years. The EcoAqua filter developed the off taste after just four months, even though I now live alone, so am using a lot less water. GE filters remove more items from the water. See Good house keeping article. GE repairman sell them and they are cheaper September 27, 2014 wish i had talked to my GE repairman before I purchased these. The GE filters are much better rated and take many more things out of my water.I got them on sale from the GE repairman for the same price on sale.Thought I was getting a good deal but my fault. Live and learn. I was happy with the filters until he showed me the good housekeeping article. Great price, but unfortunate taste in water. August 6, 2014 The price for these filters was outstandingly cheap compared to the competition and especially brand name. Unfortunately, my family and I can taste something like charcoal in the water, something I've never tasted with other brands. I'm still going to use the filters and hope that the taste doesn't equate to health risks. its a filter, no moving parts, block carbon July 22, 2014 comparing costs of a factory GE filter to these units it was a no brainer on what to purchase. Both are the same carbon block composition so I couldn't see the added cost of the GE unit | 5% Is what it is but found off brand works just ... July 19, 2016 Is what it is but found off brand works just as well at much less price also sold on Amozon Getting too expensive... September 1, 2015 These work exactly as they are supposed to, but they are getting simply too expensive. Probably my last purchase, then on to an inline filter. Used these for the first year of getting our new ... September 8, 2014 Used these for the first year of getting our new refrigerator, eventually stopped and just used the plug. They're expensive and don't seem to last as long as I would have thought. FIlter is great...but expensive December 3, 2013 Works as advertised. Able to go almost six (6) months between changes. I use this to filter water before I put the water into my coffee maker (which is also filtered). We also drink water at dinner. Taste is great. Only issue is that G.E. has raised their prices dramatically. The cost is getting prohibitive...but you have little choice if you want the water filtration system to work properly. Expensive and don't last long enough October 12, 2011 Our new GE refrigerator has a water filter requiring this product. I am grateful to have access to filtered water, but these filters are expensive and don't last that long given the price. I MIGHT get two months of "easy" use then the filter becomes so clogged that the rate of water being dispensed is so slow that it is agonizing to get a glass of water from the refrigerator. Other than cost and useful life, I have no complaints. Definitely cheaper to purchase in bulk. Items Works But Not What I Ordered March 18, 2011 Ordered MWF filter but received MWFINT (International Version), the packaging states "For International Use Only". After doing some research determined that this filter was the same as the MWF just packaged differently. The filter has been installed and is working just as well as the original. Two stars in this review were lost because these details should have been stated in the description instead of sending out this version of the filter that did not match what I ordered and having to waste time researching it. |
Two Star Reviews: | 2% 2 out of 3 filters were bad. Quality control issues are too big of a risk, despite bargain prices. April 23, 2015 Bought a 3 pack a long time ago, the first filter install was great with only a slight difference compared to GE brand filters. However, the issues started 6+ months in when I replaced the 1st filter with #2 of the 3 pack and the water flavor was horrible. Instead of tasting like filtered water, I can only describe the the flavor as "filter soaked" water. I did give the filter a chance by running through roughly 25-30 gallons, hoping the initial bad taste would pass but it never did.I finally gave up and replaced #2 with #3 of the 3 pack hoping that the flavor issue was a rare oddity, especially given the numerous 5 star reviews of other customers. Unfortunately, the #3 filtered water flavor was just as bad (but different in its own way).At this point I can not recommend these as a viable alternative to the GE brand filters. What was initially thought to be a bargain purchase based on a price comparison to the GE brand filters and my positive experience with filter #1, quickly turned into a negative review when 2 of the 3 filters in the pack are terribly flawed by imparting a terrible taste onto the filtered water. It's a filter... December 16, 2014 For those that are looking for OEM or some super duper filter, what are you looking at this product for?!?! Spend the money that will filter out everything under the sun...I'm in NY, my water is clean as it is from the tap...Edit: it's been a few months now, and I've noticed this filter is quite temperamental. Sometimes the water will flow fine, other times the water is almost at a trickle. Poorly made. Will probably go back to another brand. Not as great as I thought October 20, 2014 Updating the review of this product. SOME of the filters received worked perfectly (at a fraction of the cost of name brand). While others would cause the water from the refrigerator to come out VERY SLOWLY after about 3 weeks. Removing and reinstalling did not fix the problem. Putting a new filter in did fix the issue, some of the times. Dammit! Almost broke my fridge.. July 9, 2014 I installed the filter per the instructions on the side of box. I tried to pour some water and I got about 4 oz before it stopped. ok..... wtf. So I tried to reset the filter by holding the button on the fridge for 3 seconds. Still no water. So I tried to remove the filter and BOOM. There was back pressure and the filter popped. Damn thing cracked the filter holder in my fridge, but didn't damage it to the point of not functioning. Upon further inspection there is a small clear gasket inside of the filter top, I don't know if that came from the old filter or the new one. I removed that and reinstalled the filter. It works, my fridge is damaged but it's just aesthetic (I hope). Two out of three worked fine. April 19, 2014 The first two filters worked fine. After I installed the third one the water tasted just like it does from the tap. I ran a few gallons through to make sure. It was pretty bad. So I replaced it with the expensive GE one and the water tasted fine again. So I guess the fantasy of saving money on filters isn't going to work out for me. report on filter December 16, 2013 it is not very good only works when it feels like drives me nuts should have bought the GE brand for more money | 1% LASTED HALF AS LONG AS IT SHOULD HAVE March 12, 2016 These things are supposed to last for 6 months (my other ge filters have) The first one of these I used only lasted 3 months before no water would come through it. Took it off and on several times in hopes, but finally replaced it with the other one in the 2 pack. I certainly hope this will last longer as these filters are EXPENSIVE!!!! Not much of a difference December 8, 2015 Filters the water but not by much. I don't have much choice in water filters...have to buy the one that fits my refrigerator . I tested the water compared to the facet water and there wasn't much difference. The facet water tested at 528 (ewwwwww) and the filtered water from the fridge tested at 498. Still, it makes me feel better to drink from this but still pretty disgusting. Not sure what exactly it is filtering. Wish they would make one that actually cleans the water to a decent level. Defective July 12, 2015 I ordered two and in a matter of a month one of them stopped filtering water. Testing out the second hoping it works better than the first. so far I don't like 1 out of the 2 June 24, 2015 Well, so far I don't like 1 out of the 2. It leaks. I have never had this problem before and hopefully the second one does not do the same when its time to be changed. They don't last and are way too expensive now. November 17, 2013 I bought this exact 2-pack from Amazon for $62.46 in 2012. Then paid $65 early in 2013 for the same. The original filter that came with this GE refrigerator lasted about six months. The two filters from 2012 lasted about the same time. But the filters from 2013 lasted less than a month, and we use approximately one gallon of water a day from the refrigerator - that's all! The water source (city) has been the same throughout, BTW. I got my money back for the last two filters, but will not use the filters again.; especially now when they cost so much more. The filters appeared to do OK filtering the water, but my wife did not like the taste, so she drinks bottled water and uses bottled water for cooking. I have been drinking the unfiltered water for several months and it is fine by me. |
One Star Reviews: | 5% Made in China December 22, 2016 This water filter is made in China. I wish I had never ordered these. I do not know what my water is being filtered through. No where on the packaging does it tell you what is inside of the filter. I searched the box and the filter label itself. The filter looks well made, but it is safer to drink tap water. If you are someone that checks to see where your dog treats are made and your food is made, then do not buy these. Bye bye GE July 4, 2016 Doesnt take out half of contaniments real GE filter claims to. Shortly after defrost circuit blew up, left a piddle of oil on floor and repair parts are no longer available. So I bought a Whirlpool french door refrigerator. Its Type 2 filter provides better tasting water than GE. Broke my fridge August 4, 2014 The product arrived quickly and was well packed and the top flange APPEARS to be the same as the original GE MWF filter cartridge. I installed it in my fridge and the water immediately stopped working. I removed and re-seated the cartridge ran the line for a couple of minutes as suggested but nothing. I reinstalled the original GE MWF cartridge and then that didn't work. I tried a second EcoAqua cartridge and it also didn't work. I called a GE repair tech out and he said he sees this happen frequently where non-GE filters actually damage the water check valve. He replaced the water line and the check valve and installed a new GE MWF filter and it is working properly again. So BEWARE if you use this. It MIGHT work for you or it might break your water/ice supply as it did ours. NOT worth saving the money over the original cartridge. Lesson learned. These filters are useless. The water is disgusting and completely undrinkable July 6, 2014 These filters are useless. The water is disgusting and completely undrinkable. It tastes like plastic and chemicals. Save yourself some time and just buy the GE filters. In this case, you really do get what you pay for. Product didn't last long May 17, 2014 Product worked well for the first month. Second month water taste bad and particles visible. Wish I hadnt wasted money. Seller contacted me about product,I informed seller that the product water filter has bad taste after 2 months use. The seller apologized and offended me by offering me 5% off future purchase.Really I don't think so GE compatible water filter April 23, 2014 The filters arrived quickly, but they were useless in improving the taste of the water; I purchased a regular GE water filter and it is working fine. "Let the buyer beware." | 3% Disappointing purchase. Not the same as the OEM filters at Lowes or OD. Clogged quickly. October 18, 2016 Both filters rapidly clogged within a month of installation. Different than that the original---green markings. Wasted money. defective I think September 20, 2016 one came cracked. it leaks in my fridge. of course I didnt know one of them were cracked until the first one was dirty No water coming out April 21, 2016 I bought a 2 pack of these on Amazon last year (2015). The first one works fine. Early this year I put the second filter in my refrigerator, however, no water coming out. For a while I thought the fridge is broken until I read online that it could be caused by the filter. So I went to Home Depot to get one (paid $44.88 for it) and the problem solved! So now I'm seriously suspect this is a knock off product, not the genuine GE MWF filter. I saw small black particles coming out of the filter when I unscrewed it from the fridge. See the picture attached. HATE IT AND IF I COULD, I'D RETURN THE WHOLE BLEEPING REFRIGERATOR! October 11, 2015 Absolutely HATE GE MWF filters. The darn water flow is always great for the first month, but then ebbs to a trickle...I've tried emptying the filter in case it's air trapped in the filter, to no avail. This is a horrible filter and a horrible refrigerator... Does Not Work on my GE Model GSE25HMHBHES July 19, 2015 Was not in a blue box as pictured but in white. And did not work, inner gasket that's on the old one is not in these so water would not flow. (I went to local hardware store and purchased another from "HDX" that does have the inner gasket and it works perfectly.) Very disappointed for wasting almost $80. GE MWF Refrigerator Water Filters do not appear to be GENUINE GE PARTS July 8, 2015 Unfortunately this product from BLFlores Depot was defective or not original. I only know this because I re-ordered directly from Amazon.com (as shipper) and when I received the 2 filters they were packaged differently (Sealed Together from Amazon) vs. packaged separately (From BLFlores Depot). It looked sealed but when I installed on refrigerator, both filters were obviously defective and water would not flow. When I re-attached the old filter, then it worked. When I received the new filters directly from Amazon.Com (as Shipper), they also immediately worked.I returned and got a prompt refund. |
