Fast and quiet.
June 15, 2017
I finally had to use this.I used to have a blue one from Walmart. I can't remember the brand but it was kind of loud and it took forever. I had a little sedan so I just dealt with and honestly assumed that was the best you could get with a 12volt compressor. I bought a little Tacoma a year ago and thought it might be a good reason to see what was out there.I used it this morning in the rain after finding I hit a screw. It was quiet and aired the tire up pretty quick. Even with the truck off and running completely off the battery. It was kind of a happy moment in a sad situation. It got me back up the drive way so I didn't have to change the tire in the road. The compresser is small and comes with a little bag too. It fits great behind my back seat. Love this little guy!!!
This is a must have item!

I'm a woman who always invested in cool sports cars throughout my life. When you get a flat with those kind of cars you can't even feel it. Therefore, checking your tire pressure on a regular basis is very important. I live in New England and weather changes also affect tire pressure. Gas stations aren't operated these days like the services they use to offer and the ones that do don't want to take time to do this. There is any money to be made. I always had difficulty getting the gauge on the stem of the tire and adding air. Usually, I lucked out and a nice man would see me struggle and offer to do it for me. It helps to be a sharp looking blonde with a fancy car. I decided to try one of these portable compressors. Read multiple reviews and finally decided on this one. It is one of the best things I've ever bought. It arrived packaged very nicely and I wondered if it would be as good as it looks. I have seldom been this impressed with a product. So portable you could carry it in your back pack. It easily screws on tightly to the stem of your tire and instantly shows how much pressure is in your tire and you add what you need. It has plenty of cord length to reach all 4 tires. It has a build in light for night use.I know longer have to take my bicycles up to a gas station and inflate the tires every year. I just think everyone should carry one of these in your car. Plus, what an unusual gift to give someone, especially those hard to buy for people. The item was on sale for half off. I paid some where in the low 40's for this item. I think every should own one of these. Thanks again to Amazon for providing me with easily obtainable information on almost every thing.
Great, affordable compressor for up to 60 PSI.
January 20, 2017
I live in Houston where I swear some roads contain more nails than asphalt. The VIAIR 85P Portable Air Compressor works perfectly for passenger cars, but it only goes up to 60 PSI. Consider another model if you have high pressure needs.I tried it out yesterday on a tire that was down to 23 psi. I connected the unit to the accessory power, fired up the car, attached the hose to the tire and watched the pressure gauge inch up to 33 PSI in about a minute. It was about as loud as my car engine and the front vents got mildly toasty. The VIAIR comes with a carrying case and has found a permanent home in my trunk.NOTE: the pressure dial reads about 3-5 PSI too high when the unit runs, but reads fairly accurately when turned off.Minor downsides:The "on/off" switch is awkwardly situated at the rear between the cord and hose; it should be on the handle. Also, the nice white power LED is buried among the hoses and wire where it really doesn't do much good. It should be on the front. Finally, they cut corners and used an unilluminated 120 PSI dial on a device that only goes to 60 PSI.But these are minor quibbles and the VIAIR 85P earns a solid 5 stars in my book.
Great little compressor!!
September 27, 2016
I purchased the VIAIR 85P air compressor before a recent trip to the Oregon outback. In the past my tent trailer, on multiple occasions, has experienced a sudden loss of tire pressure while navigating some difficult and rocky terrain. This year I decided to be proactive instead of reactive and make an investment that would prepare me for possibly another flat tire episode. Before leaving on my trip I was able to check all of the tires and inflate them using the gauge that is easily readable and accurate. There was no issues on the 7 hour trip and before reaching my destination up a 6 mile rocky, rutty road I pulled out the compressor and deflated the trailers tires by 15lbs. This allowed me to make it to my final destination without any issues. The next challenge was leaving and making our way back down the same rocky and rutty road. Once again no issues and I broke out the compressor and re-inflated the tires to the correct pressure in a matter of minutes. I was extremely happy with my purchase. The only issue I could find was that the compressor can get a bit warm at the pump, but this is a minor inconvenience. The unit comes with a handy storage bag and is large enough to fit the compressor and the 12' 12V extension cord. It is also small enough that I can put it in the storage bin under the rear seat of my Toyota Tacoma. I would highly recommend this product and it will be a mainstay in my emergency gear.
great for my truck and travel trailer
July 25, 2016
This is ideal for my truck tires and travel trailer tires. Until just recently driving a truck and travel trailer, I never really needed my own source of compressed air. I need my own source of compressed air for the travel trailer tires because 1) it's a fortune now to put in quarters at the gas station and 2) the trailer is difficult to maneuver, and 3) it seemed like making adjustments at home or on a big roadside pull-out were much more practical. I realized this especially after being out in the middle of nowhere and having a low pressure issue with no pressure around for about 50 miles. So I bought this thing. I'll note that they should be more careful to call it a "12 volt" plug because this thing is not really meant to work with your car battery and would probably damage your car battery if you used it without the engine running. The instructions say to use it while the engine is running. The instructions also said to plug it in while it was in the "off" position. Personally, I felt like even that was a gamble and started my engine before plugging it in, just in case that it somehow arrived in the "on" position.I'll note it was manufactured in China but seemed nice and quiet and didn't jump around really at all. It does seem sturdy. The thing really gets hot. Probably if you weren't careful with the nozzle, it would melt if you rested it on a hot component. No problem filling my truck tires (with loads) from 38 psi to 45 psi. Took maybe a minute at most. The reading on the compressor is decent and I confirmed that gauge with an independent gauge. It took a shorter amount of time to bring my smaller passenger car tire from 29 psi to 34 psi. (less than 30 seconds)I didn't try it but you could fill your bike tires in about five seconds or a football, etc. It's gonna do stuff like that fast, fyi.I like the screw-on brass fitting for the compressor hose. In my opinion, the air loss is negligible during removal compared to toggles at gas stations, etc.It is meant to work with your engine running, drawing power actually from your engine, via your battery, although it does use the 12 volt cigarette plug. I am also lucky in that my tow vehicle has a snug 12 volt connector in the vehicle (the "cigarette lighter" outlet so that this sits snugly and so I can use the extension cord to get to all four truck tires and the trailer tires. I think you you might have a number of problems like blown fuses and under-performance if your connection is cutting in and out like if you have a wobbly 12 volt connection like those often are. Also I needed the extension cord to get around just for a regular car. I don't know why they don't just tell you that you basically need the extension cord with this, unless you're doing a go-cart. l was able to use the extension cord and with the truck facing my trailer, there was plenty of room to extend to the trailer tires. I was curious if this would work in the 12 volt outlet in the trailer (with the truck running and attached or plugged into the house) but frankly I just didn't have the guts to try it. And the extension worked fine to get to the trailer tires with the truck facing the trailer. (20 foot trailer with two axles)I was pleased it came with a canvas carrying case as many reviews had said it didn't come with one. It's smaller than I even thought. It's gonna drop in my truck toolbed like it's not even there. One negative is the mirror chrome top on top of the compressor is basically blindingly bright in the sun. If the sun is out, the thing is going to blast sun in your face (and passing traffic possibly). They really could have gone with a matte or just a less shiny metal on this thing. It's so bright and shiny I had to tap on it to see if it was plastic but it does at least seem to be some kind of metal.Otherwise, I'm very happy. If it holds up, it solves all my compressed air needs.
Worth the money - its efficient, easy to use and gets the job done
March 18, 2016
We bough this to top up/inflate the tires on our truck and car and I have actually been pretty impressed with it - especially compared to other pumps that we have had. To take a tire from more to less flat to inflated took about 6-8 minutes and the noise is far less than you would expect for something that was working at the rate this punk was. Some ares of the pump do get hot but again it was working hard so I would actually expect this. the footprint of the pump is pretty small and its easy to store without taking up a ton of spaceI know that there are some people that would find this on the too noisy side, but I actually think it is quieter than others that I have tried and the fact that it can actually inflate the tire so quickly has made things a lot easier

Awesome is all my husband says about. Gives the needed pressure for the Stapler/Nailer. Though it dies have a bleed off that scares the dog...poor baby!
you truly will enjoy this compressor

To all weekend mechanics and honey do list heroes, you truly will enjoy this compressor! I fill my tires, use my air wrenches and nailers. It doesn't take that much room. All in all a great purchase!
Good compressor
December 21, 2016
Got this for my 70 yr old father. He loves the portability of the machine. Also the 150psi gives plenty of power for running smaller air tools and filling tires
High quality product
February 22, 2016
Very pleased with this high quality product. Instructions are multilingual on one big sheet of paper and are reasonably easy to follow. Accesories are of good quality. Please ensure that your pressure relief valve on the bottom of the unit is closed so pressure can build up. Please also not that you should release pressure and possible condensation from the compressor after each use. Looking forward to years of good service from this item. Highly recommended.
Best Compressor I Have Ever Owned
February 19, 2014
This baby gets the job done and more, I followed the instructions when first turning it on by running it for about 12 to 15 minutes with valve open and I have not had one problem. When the unit shuts off when it reaches it pressure it can sit for hours and not loose a pound of pressure. I had only done that once because after using it I ALWAYS drain the air out from valve on bottom. I know if you follow these simple procedures your compressor will last for years. I can not do without mine.

Viair customer service has been great.
September 11, 2017
Despite the fact I have had two units fail on me, I'm giving this product 4 stars due to the customer service. The first product failed within the first year. The valve somehow got bent during use (it's possible it was ran over by a tire). I paid shipping to send in the unit, and they sent a replacement unit. The second unit failed after 26 months from the purchase. The end of the cigarette lighter fuse became loose over time and fell out. Viair sent me replacement parts, despite being out of warranty. So 26 months later I still have a fully functional pump. However, if I were to purchase again, I would buy the 88p. It has a higher capacity and a faster pump. A time saver that would be useful for autocross and refilling my tires after offroading.A couple tips:1) Beware of metal, it gets very hot, I leave it outside the bag after use as to not melt the wires or pump line.2) The best reading you get with the pump is with the switch in the 'off' position.
Works for my purposes
September 4, 2017
I've used this to inflate my jeep after I air down to go wheelin'. I read a review that said it inflated to 45psi in 1 minute. 😐 :/ Absolutely not. I air down to 11 psi. I inflate to 26psi. It takes 5+ minutes. By tire 3, the compressor is hot hot hot. Today I gave it a 10 minute break or so and pumped up the last tire. I have done four in a row and you will absolutely burn your hand if you touch the metal on the compressor. Take into account the 5+ minutes a tire and it's close to a half hour deal for four tires. This isn't an issue as I air up the night before and am in no hurry. Having said all this, this unit is smaller and pumps air faster than an old compressor I have. It does only plug into the ac/12v adapter, but I understand you can buy an adapter if you wish to plug into your battery. For my purpeses and the price, I like it.
Strong and silent compressor
July 4, 2017
Strong and silent air compressor. I used to have an air compressor that had a plastic housing that would make all kinds of noises as it slowly but surely filled up the tire with air. This compressor fills up the air a lot faster then the cheaper models and is very quit in comparison. You can use this at night time without disturbing neighbors. The only thing that i would prefer is the connector that has a lever to lock it in. This one is a screw type and it does slow down connecting the compressor. Make sure your valve stem threads are in good shape.
Great and efficient !
January 20, 2017
Very nice!!Medium sound, as you'd expect. It's a nice "hum" and not a loud high pitched whine like the cheaper models. Its max warranty psi is 60, just enough to fill your spare tires (for you compact drivers like me)! It took my spare tire from 30 to 60 in under a minute almost.I loved it! Just be careful not to accidentally step on the lighter socket if you drag it on the ground.it also comes with a sweet bag to hold it in!!
Excellent upgrade
January 19, 2017
I own a previous model of this compressor, which works fine, but tends to overheat a bit with prolonged use and does not include a LED light. The new version is improved in all respects and has a higher inflation rate to top it off. The built in heatsink is particularly welcome as the new version can be run without overheating for a lot longer. I still feel that the gauge is somewhat substandard and would have preferred one with a smaller scale, but a finer one (higher precision) - perhaps topping out at 75 PSI, in 1-2 PSI increments. The other improvement that I believe would be very welcome is to include a pro grade quick release chuck. The included screw-on type is secure and works well for balls and mattresses, but when pumping the tires - i.e. the primary function - it bleeds a bit of air on connect and disconnect - something that a quick release chucks are designed to avoid.

March 23, 2017
The compressor itself is fantastic. I have been using it daily for 2 weeks now, and haven't run into any issues.
The only problem is the kit that comes with the compressor is garbage.
The air blower tool broke after 15 uses, this was easily fixed with a replacement tool from Home Depot.

The compressor is not too heavy and has enough capacity to use an impact gun.
This makes rotating tires a lot easier!
This unit is a good size, light weight
January 12, 2017
This was purchased for use in the garage. My son does a lot of motorcycle work, This unit is a good size, light weight. It keeps good pressure. The one problem is how LOUD it is. I was disappointed with the noise. We have a larger compressor that is noisy, One of the reasons we got a new one was because of the noise, this didn't help.
The pump itself is fantastic. It is heavy duty and works very well
November 2, 2016
The pump itself is fantastic. It is heavy duty and works very well. The accessory kit is made of cheap garbage from China. I attempted to attach the blower attachment and it split. total garbage! I would recommend purchasing this compressor but without the accessory kit.
I live in a rural area and needed a good compressor to air up RV and vehicle tires
September 14, 2016
I live in a rural area and needed a good compressor to air up RV and vehicle tires. 2 CFM should be adequate for this task, and this product says it has 2.6 CFM. The first thing I did was try to air up my F150 tire from 27 lbs to 35 lbs, the proper spec. It would not put any air in the tire even though the tank pressured to 150 psi, and I set the regulator at 140 psi. That should be enough pressure to overcome the resistance of the pressure already in the tire. But it appeared it wasn't. I tried another tire to make sure there wasn't something wrong with the first tire's air valve. Same thing, wouldn't put an oz of air in the tire. I called Porter-Cable for help and got some lady that didn't appear to even understand the issue, so she told me to just return it to Amazon, and that was what I planned to do. As far as Porter-Cable was concerned, I was basically on my own.

I did a lot of researched on air compressors trying to make the right decision before purchasing this compressor, but felt I obviously must have missed something. But not believing it was the compressor, I finally found on the internet, doityourself.com, where others have been having this problem since 2006. The problem is with the cheap Chinese air chuck that is shipped with the Accessory Kit that comes with the compressor. It is too shallow to depress the air valve stem far enough to let air into the tire. It will let it out, so I assumed it should let it in. But I found out that is not how valve stems work. The stem has to be depressed enough further to allow air in.

The fix was to go to Walmart and purchase a Campbell Hausfeld Dual Foot Chuck MP3231, which Amazon probably also sells, but I wanted it in a hurry to see if this would fix my problem, and it did. The moral of the story is if you are going to use the compressor to inflate tires, be sure to get a commercial grade Chuck along with the compressor. As far as I know, everything with the compressor worked fine and I would have given it a 5 as a tool to inflate tires, but sending it with a cheap chuck that doesn't work, only merits a 4.
Very happy with the compressor
June 8, 2016
Very happy with the compressor. If I purchased again I would leave off the accessory set. In comparison to the compressor the 13 pc. accessory kit contains low quality parts and I would have purchased upgrade items in hindsight. For my usage of filling up bike tires, inflatables and blowing out my car the unit will be more than enough. Without the accessories I would have given 5 stars for the compressor.

Very approximate gauge reading
July 26, 2017
The unit gets VERY hot when in use, you could cook an egg on it. The gauge gives a very approximate reading, in fact it gave me a 40 psi reading when my tire was actually only at 34 psi... it's a huge gap!
Not so sure. Seemed like a good deal at first.
July 12, 2017
Worked great 1 time, then died.
Nozzle connection is inconvenient
August 25, 2015
Not bad, works, puts air into my tires just fine. Didn't blow any fuses on my RS 4. Wires & hoses were long enough to fill any of the tires. However, the way it actually attaches to the tire nozzle is inconvenient. It's not as simple as one would expect -- instead of being able to press the compressor's hose connector against the tire nozzle connector, like most air pumps, this one requires one to screw the connector on. Not ideal, but I'm sure I wouldn't care much in an emergency.
Slow but functional, do NOT use with an extension cable that isnt heavy heavy duty!
April 22, 2015
Ok I bought this on the chep, I wont lie! for the money this thing is still going, and I used it to fill both airbags on my truck, and tires on my trailer. This guy really is a life saver!now for 3 stars..1) it gets HOT, even using it in short bursts as reccomended it still gets quite warm2) it really sucks the juice! I had to get an extension cable for this as it wouldnt reach from the cab to the back of the bed... it melted! (my fault for not getting one heavy guage enough but it was all I could find at the truckstop)3) short cable... an extra 3' of power cable would make all the difference in the world!4) slow... really doesnt put out much air.. but it does the job.All of those are negatives, but the truth is it works, and as long as you arent in a hurry, you should be good to go!
Good Pump, But Poor Connections
March 18, 2015
Cigarette lighter connection impossible with most cars, as this unit draws 12 amps, which would melt the plastic dashboard material around the socket. Even the springs in the lighter plug cannot handle the current; they harden and break, breaking the connection. The only solution in most cases is to replace/lengthen the cable and use an inline fuse holder, along with quality battery clamps, not the ones on auto parts dealers' floor displays.
It's OK but...
December 18, 2011
I've had this unit for 1.5 yrs and have used it maybe 10 times total. I took it out to use it last week and the hose has a new leak where it meets the plastic housing. I'm guessing it just dry cracked. I keep it stored in my enclosed garage and the weather here in SC is generally not that drastic from season to season. I contacted VIAIR and even though it's out of warranty, they said I could send it back for a new one. Very Happy about that since these things are kinda expensive. We'll see how long the new one lasts. So 5 stars for customer svc but I could only give 3 stars for the product itself.

Hit or miss
August 15, 2017
This product has been hit or miss on performance thus far. Some days it operates great and helps me seal up tubeless wheels on my bikes in no times, other days it struggles to build any pressure and makes me want to chuck it over the side of the fence. I know it has a common issue with a screw behind the pressure gauge, but that is not the issue i'm having, as I am able to dial the pressure in both directions...just doesn't want to build up sometimes and keeps shutting off.
A Good Hobbyist Air Compressor
May 30, 2017
A good hobbyists air compressor. Should have bought one fifty years ago when I had kids. Great for blowing-up bicycle tires, sports balls of any description but a bit underpowered for air tools.
compressor yes but air chuck, no
January 31, 2017
compressor is great but the air chuck that comes with it junk. no wonder they give it to you. they sure cannot sell that useless think. go buy you a good one at amazon or auto parts store.
Confusion about whether break-in procedure is required
December 1, 2015
Probably this air compressor deserves a higher rating from me. It performs as advertised. I like the fact that it reaches max 150 psi in a few minutes. I like the twenty-five foot nylon-reinforced air hose. The accessories are functional and nice to have, even if a bit pricey at $30. The air compressor, itself, is well-made and attractively-priced for its capabilities. Other than item E below, my negative impressions are unrelated to the functionality of the air compressor:
A. It is noisy enough to wake the dead; painful to the ears when standing near it in a confined space.
B. It is heavy, about thirty pounds.
C. It sends strong vibrations to the porch-wood floor on which it sits, although its rubber foot pads prevent the unit, itself, from vibrating excessively.
D. Reading the enclosed user's manual is a challenge. It is a large, map-like foldout that lacks page numbers.
E. Most significantly, the enclosed user's manual does NOT specify a break-in procedure, whereas the user's manual downloaded from

http://servicenet.portercable.com/Products/Detail?isId=true&productNumber=C2002-WK&selectedType=16059#

DOES specify a break-in procedure for this air compressor. The PDF manual downloaded from the preceding link specifies the following break-in procedure:

BREAK-IN PROCEDURE - Risk of Unsafe Operation. SERIOUS DAMAGE may result if the following break-in instructions are not closely followed. This procedure is required before the air compressor is put into service and when the check valve or a complete compressor pump has been replaced.
1. Make sure the On/Auto/Off lever is in the "Off" position.
2. Plug the power cord into the correct branch circuit receptacle. (Refer to Voltage and Circuit Protection paragraph in the Installation section of this manual.)
3. Open the drain valve (counterclockwise) fully to permit air to escape and prevent air pressure build up in the air tank during the break-in period.
4. Move the On/Auto/Off lever to "On/Auto" position. The compressor will start.
5. Run the compressor for 15 minutes. Make sure the drain valve is open and there is minimal air pressure build-up in tank.
6. After 15 minutes, close the drain valve by turning clockwise. The air receiver will fill to "cut-out" pressure and the motor will stop.
The compressor is now ready for use.
Worked great for 3 months. Now I have to fix it.
June 4, 2014
For 3 months it worked great for the $139 here on Amazon. I am building a my house and wanted something easy to move around for my nail gun. I have had it for 3 months and used it around 25 times for a few hours each time. The other day I was using it when I smelled smoke. I look down and I could see a big blue arch under the plastic casing over the compressor. I tried again a few hours later but it did the same thing as soon as I cut it on. I guess I will have to tear it apart and see if it is something I can fix.

Product worked well for topping off my jeep tires, blowing up flotation for the pool, and sports balls. However, the connection to the power source broke rendering the device useless now. According to amazon I'm out of the return window and stuck with the defective unit.
Not reliable
January 30, 2017
I used it when I first received it. It worked great. I tried to use it today, it topped off one tire ok. Then stopped working after about 30seconds. It will work for a few seconds then stops. I will be checking into exchanging it for another one
Disappointed
November 22, 2016
Loved the power and speed. The heat sink at the top gets hot enough to burn you. Also it has blown out the AUX power sockets on my Silverado without a fuse blowing. Easy fix but I would not buy again.
OK pump but cheap build that does not last.
July 26, 2016
Purchased this pump four years ago. The pump itself is strong, but the rest of the build is sub-standard. After four years of intermittent use, the power socket is broken (happened soon after purchase, flimsy plastic, taped it up with electrician's tape), the air hose is frayed, and the power wire is exposed where it meets the pump body. Plus, it now blows fuses on my truck, both 10amp and 15amp fuses. I'm discarding this and buying something else. In short, it did not really last as long as I had hoped.
Wouldn't recommend it.
December 27, 2014
Worked for a few pumps but then started blowing fuses all over the place. Replacing fuses is no fun in newer vehicles! Then it overheats easily and died within 4 months.
Better that much of the alternatives
June 11, 2014
I'm reviewing this after about two months. I used this to pump up a tire with a slow leak for about a month. The fuse didn't blow, but I have not checked the rating. The pump maximum pressure is about 39 psi and then it just jumps. I guess there is a check valve at this point or something to protect the pump/tire. That's enough pressure to get back on the road. I don't care for tools made with plastic parts that can't easily be replaced. And the hose can't be replaced - at least not without dissembling it. The attachments are just clipped on the outside, so you may want to store this in a container. Over all it does pump up a tire without jacking up the car, but I'd still do, if it's not too much trouble.Edit: The pump died after two years of occasional use. If I can find it easy to repair then I may rejoice again over this pump. But it, just sitting now in a box of broken miscellaneous right now.

November 14, 2016
Compressor is fine, but the extra $57 for the '13-piece accessory kit' was a waste of money. Would have returned or exchanged for the $99 compressor if the shipping costs didn't make it a wash. Very disappointing, cheap parts made in China. Recommend buy the $99 compressor and then then quality accessories you need.
Accessory air hose gives off skunk-like odor
July 4, 2016
My first use of the compressor went OK. No leaks. My main objection is the terrible skunk-like smell that permeates the accessory air hose. I have seen this unpleasant characteristic in many of the rubberized items manufactured in China. The information that I found is sketchy, but it seems that China uses some process that leaves a (possibly) toxic chemical within the manufactured item. The air hose will bleed this chemical off for at least a year or more before the smell is tolerable. I kid you not. I could not leave this air hose anywhere near the house. I have no recourse but to purchase an air hose made somewhere else . . . and price is no object. I compare the smell to burning rubber. Honestly, I made the mistake of leaving the compressor and air hose in the house for one night (initial test of the unit), and the odor lingers even after 3 days.
Secondly, the rubber connection between the compressor and tank gets hot enough to be a major concern.
Thirdly, the accessory air gauge is laughable. It calls attention to substandard craftsmanship right off the bat.
All in all . . . another quality China product.
Great compressor. Cheap accessories (the parts you actually use).

My husband ordered this because of the excellent reputation of the Porter-Cable brand, referrals from friends, and the air-tool kit that comes with the unit. While assembling the air-tool kit, the hand valve case split up the casting seam, a potentially dangerous situation as the close proximity air-jet impinges on the operator's wrist. He called Porter-Cable and, although the component is clearly defective and un-serviceable, was told to drive 2 hours to the nearest Porter-Cable dealer so they can inspect the component. Our other option was to return the entire compressor back to Amazon. Both options are clearly impractical given how cheap this valve is. The entire situation really soured our appreciation of this product and we're still considering the best options for replacing the hand valve.
Regulator Broke After Only a Few Uses
September 1, 2013
The compressor works great and is easier to use for filling tires, around the workshop, etc. but the regulator broke after only a handful of "routine" uses. It seems to be the cheapest part on the whole compressor - yet critical to everything you wanted/needed the compressor for in the first place! Without a working regulator, the unit is unusable.

Doesn't turn on after first use
May 23, 2017
I used this once and it worked ok. My tire pressure was really low this past Sunday and when I needed it most it doesn't work; flipped the switch on and off... nothing. I had to go to a gas station to fill up my tires which is the reason why I purchased this to have as a convenience. So much for that. I want my money back!
it was fine. The pressure gauge is pretty inaccurate
April 19, 2017
Lasted 13 months(so, out of warranty by on month...grrr) before it stopped working (completely dead, no light and motor wont power on). I followed all the instructions and always had the engine running when using it, but it gave up anyways. When it worked, it was fine. The pressure gauge is pretty inaccurate, but that goes for all compressors I have used.

Air nossel wouldn't seat correctly to the valve stem after about 15 uses.

Maybe I had bad luck, but my unit stopped operating 2 months after I bought it. I used it only twice. During the second time, after I turned it on, it burped once, the indicator light went off, and it became as dead as a brick. Switching it to another car's 12v outlet made no difference. Sending it for warranty repairs requires postage, a $20 "inspection fee," AND return postage, according to the manufacturer's website. Total cost is likely to exceed the purchase cost of this product. I hope my experience is not representative, but be assured that the warranty is completely useless if something goes wrong.
This air pump broke the SECOND time I ever used it. Very Sad!!!

This air pump broke the SECOND time I ever used it. What kind of quality is that?I am very disappointed with this product and will be contacting customer service for a replacement.
Failed after 2 months.

Seemed like a solid product, well designed, liked the nice brass fittings that screw into the valve stem. Bought it for a car tire with a slow leak. Pump worked great about 6-7 times and then just died. Light still works, but pump does nothing. I spent more money on this product hoping it would be a quality item that would last. No such luck. Should have bought a 30 dollar one. And of course it lasted one month more than Amazon's return policy. Last pump I had was a cheap plastic one, lasted me about 10 years before I lent it to a friend and never saw it again. Probably still works. I'll try to find a new one like it.

really poor packaging by the manufacturer

Bleed valve broken out of the box.. really poor packaging by the manufacturer. I'm going with Bostitch instead
Didn't work properly out of the box. Since this ...

Didn't work properly out of the box. Since this was primarily a low use item for me I returned it. Thankfully Amazon, as almost always, was simple to work with. I'm not sure what was wrong but it would not inflate my tires. After 15 minutes of trying I was losing ground. Went from 20 to 15 PSI on one and 30 to 25 on another. Took the vehicle to local gas station. 1 dollar later all tires were full.
Won't pressurize!

Arrived defective! Air leaks from tank fill hose at compressor behind plastic housing.
Caveat Emptor
May 27, 2013
Buyer Beware! Buying this compressor is like playing the chance game. More often than not, you will lose. My wife purchased this compressor for me as a Christmas gift, December 2012. I finally decided to use the unit for the first time May, 2013. The compressor tank did not pressurized. Neither Amazon or Porter Cable will honor the one year unlimited warranty. I hope the 13 piece accessories are usable, because that is the only thing I have to show for the money I spent buying this unit. First time Amazon did not warranty an item I brought, last time I will buy a Porter Cable item. Best to those who decides to buy this compressor, I hope it works better for you than it did for me.
Pathetic
July 30, 2012
One has to wonder about quality control at Porter-Cable. The C2002-WK Pancake Compressor arrived in an intact box, not suggestive of any damage during shipment. However, the air compressor inside looked like it had been dropped from a third story balcony. The front regulator array was broken off most of its plastic attachments and skewed to the side. The whole top black regulator/pump apparatus was partially detached from the tank which flopped down and twisted when attempting to lift the unit by the handle. Pathetic. Very irritating to waste time repacking and mailing this grossly defective product back to Amazon.
