Love it! Some people mentioned that the sound is low...I would disagree for the most part. However, we did have to turn it up close to the limit while watching a redbox movie on the playstation. Other than that, the sound quality and the picture quality are both good.

UPDATE:
Still same thoughts on the sound quality, but I would like to gripe about the remote. While the remote/tv respond really well while the tv is on it has a hard time turning the tv on. You have to push the button multiple times to get it to turn on. No amount of distance, angle, or anything can get it to respond in a single button push with the remote.
) Iwatch a lot of Netflix
March 6, 2016
You get what you pay for. The price is lower compared to other TV's because it lacking in some areas. Of course you've read from numerous other reviews that this does not have audio outs. (Which means you could not hook up speakers directly to the TV.)

I watch a lot of Netflix, but the same could be said for people who watch HBO or other shows from websites, so I only planned on hooking up the TV to my computer, which is near where the TV sits. So when I feel like watching Netflix I just switch the input to HDMI and enjoy the 1080p 43" screen from the comfort of my bed.

Because I hook up the TV to my computer, I can use the audio outputs on my computer. If I wanted I could wire some speakers, or wear some headphones, most would probably prefer the speakers though. When I read reviews a lot of people said the audio was sub-par, but I'd say it's on par with other popular models. I had no issues with the built in speakers.

Notes:
- Great Picture
- Adequate Sound
- The stock power cord is very short, I'd say less than or equal to 6 feet. So if you have to go longer than that you'll need an extension chord.
- The legs screw in with screws that come with the TV, and are very sturdy. They also have rubber feet on the bottom. I tried wiggling the TV and it felt like it wasn't going to move an inch.
- Note that that legs are on each end of the TV, so you'll need a surface wide enough for them. It could also be wall mounted, but it does not come with any form of wall mount.
- Basic remote (came with batteries! [AAA])

All in all, if you're looking for something to watch the game on with huge speakers in your living room, this probably isn't what you're looking for. If you're looking for a large screen for the bedroom and you watch a lot of netflix I highly reccomend this, as the price is unbeatable!
Awesome TV plug your soundbar in to your direct tv cable box optical outlet and the sound rocks
March 4, 2016
This TV is fantastic great picture sound is ok but for the price and quality it's a great buy. I see a lot of people complain that there is no optical outlet well it says right under the description that it does not have one so maybe people need to pay more attention when purchasing something. I bought a sound bar and plugged it in to my Direct TV optical outlet on my Genie and it works just great - sound is amazing.
Life IS Better with this LG Television
February 22, 2016
I bought this television to place in my living room to sit on top of a corner unit tv stand. It fits perfect in the corner. I did not want a large tv to take over my living room, I feel this area is reserved for conversation and interacting with guests, etc. the television shows beautiful and although 4K is available and I have a couple of them... this one seems to have a better quality picture (they are a different brand). So based on picture quality, I give this high ratings; it also has great sound. It was a super value so I highly recommend this television.
bright, sharp picture. was not compatible with my tv stand bracket.
February 12, 2016
it is a simple tv. only two HDMI inputs, one component input, and one coax. no audio outputs. it worked out perfectly for me because thats what i was looking for; have my cable box plugged into one hdmi, and my gaming system on the other one. no need for a smart tv or dvd input because the gaming system covers all of that. the tv is very nice-light weight, the display is very bright and very sharp. you can make adjustments in the menu to the picture if you need to. the audio doesnt sound as...'full' as my previous tv, but you can make adjustments in the menu. the one snag i did run into is that i needed to modify my tv stand mount brackets to accommodate my new tv..

Solid LED TV
April 9, 2017
As someone not interested in Smart TVs or 3D, this was a great choice for the price-point. Slightly 'older' TV sets seem to always be better purchases price/value wise. Real happy with it! Replaced a 28" set so feels like a real nice upgrade.
Great Picture/ sound a bit muffled
March 27, 2017
Great T.V. Now all our T.v's are Samsung. I like the fact is doesnt make music when it turns on & off like our others do. The sound is a bit muffled because the speakers seem to be on the bottom of the t.v but we will get used to it for the price. Couldn't go wrong.
Great tv
October 27, 2016
This is a great tv for the price. Yes, I bought "last year's model" but it was still new and had everything I needed. Not sure if it's my tv provider's fault, the remote I'm using (not the one that came with the tv) or the tv, but there's some lag time when changing channels. Great price for the size and features.
Wonderful TV
May 10, 2016
Samsung UN40H5003 40-Inch (39.5" Measured Diagonally)1080p LED TV (2014 Model)This is a wonderful TV. My husband and I have been deliberating for months on which TV to buy. We kept dilly-dallying between a smart 40 inch TV or a not smart 40 inch TV. After weighing the pros and cons and reading MANY reviews, we came to the conclusion that it might be best to get a chromecast to use with this TV rather than paying extra for a smart TV because most smart TVs in this price range tend to be extremely glitchy and slow. The higher end smart TVs (between the $800 - $1500 price range) tend to be fast because they have a quad core processor in them, effectively making them mini computers. The other concern was that of safeguarding information. We are unsure about how valid or invalid the reports are of smart TVs recording (video or audio) sensitive information that is uploaded to the database, thus making one more susceptible to identity thefts or credit card frauds. I highly doubt if that happens but if it does, we do not want to take a chance. We were looking for a good 40 inch TV in the $300 range and this TV had everything we needed so we went ahead and ordered it from Amazon. It was supposed to arrive tomorrow but it arrived this morning. We set it up in our living room and I have to say, the sound quality is really good. We have two other slightly older samsung TVs in the house and the sound of this TV is louder and crisper than either of the other two TVs. The TV is set to 100% contrast but I have read many reviews stating that the picture settings shouldn't be meddled with until the TV has run 6-10 hours so for now it is on Standard mode.It connected well with our Chromecast and it is working perfectly. The picture is crisp and the size of the TV is perfect for our living room. The TV arrived packaged very well (as seen in the photos), and it was very easy for my husband to set it up right out of the box. The stand is sturdy but it does not swivel like the other reviews have mentioned. We ran a dead pixel tester video (this one:[...] and we are yet to find any dead pixels. All in all, we like the TV and we hope that we will continue to feel that way in the future. In the event that something is amiss, I will update this review.
Amazing picture clarity.
May 23, 2015
The picture clarity on this tv is far superior than what we were expecting for the price. I would choose this tv again over a pricier one any day. Speakers on it are not the greatest in the world, but the picture is so great we don't mind. The interface is easy to use and understand.

Good TV, just know what you're buying. No audio out and 2 HDMI ports + one component input.
April 25, 2016
It works, it has NO audio out port or any way to do audio out, so you'll have to use audio out directly from your other media players if you have a sound system.. Interestingly, it has component video input so I can hook up my original nintendo wii to it (which are not the default cables that the wii comes with).
It also only has 2 HDMI ports. I guess they figure that if you do have a modern receiver, you can use the HDMI ports built into it. I have an older receiver so I bought a cheap HDMI splitter which does the job for now.
The stand doesn't lift the TV very high off your entertainment center. This is only an issue for me because we have a child gate. I tried putting things underneath it to prop it up, but I decided to live with the gate blocking part of the picture. Hopefully we won't need the gate for that much longer.
I'll see how this lasts over the years, but it was a very affordable TV. If they added a simple 3.5mm audio out jack, I'd consider giving them 5/5
Great entry-level mid-size television.
February 24, 2016
My 37" Vizio that was 7 years old started having HDMI issues recently that would cause the Uverse box and my Fire TV to not be able to detect the television while watching things, the last straw was buying a Playstation 4 and it being unable to detect a signal every day or so which prevents it from turning on so I started looking for 'cheap' tv's to replace it.

This LG Electronics 43LF5400 43-Inch is cheaper than the original purchase price of my previous television and 6 inches larger, it has a considerably slimmer border/frame, displays a beautiful 1080p image from my Baraka bl-uray and from 1080p content on my Playstation 4. It's a great 'budget level' television.

My only complaint is, 2 HDMI ports. I have a Uverse (cable) receiver, a Fire TV and a Playstation 4 which all use HDMI. It seems the vast majority of televisions 35 inches or larger only have 2 HDMI ports until you get north of 400-500$ MSRP... which means I had to buy an HDMI switcher and have yet another remote. I'd honestly rather have them ditch component for a 3rd HDMI port as just about everything uses HDMI in 2016.
All in all, this is a great TV for the money.
February 13, 2016
I chose the 43" version. This TV will work with all voltages and 50/60hz which was a make or break decision for me. The TV itself looks great, and the speakers sound pretty great considering it is an LED TV. My previous Samsung 32" LED TV had speakers that sounded like pure garbage compared to this one. It was cheap so I couldn't complain at the time. I have it hooked up to a computer via HDMI and it can auto-detect the best resolution if you tell it to which is a nice feature. The reason I gave it only 4 stars is that the remote that came with it(standard LG remote) is faulty. If you point the infrared light at the end of the remote into a camera and view it from the screen, you can tell that the remote is sending a "flickering" signal instead of a solid signal. I have another LG TV and have confirmed the other remote doesn't do this. The remote still works, it is just difficult to turn on the TV with it. BUT, if I had to buy this TV again, even if the remote was again faulty, I'd still do it for the amazing price.
Great Value but some limitations
February 3, 2016
Easy to set up. Great picture quality, size is just right for my basement "man-cave". Sound quality for a TV is OK. The only disappointment is that I was not able to find ANY way to directly connect an external sound amplification source. I was hoping for an eirphone jack or rca audio output to connect to my external amplifier and get big sound. I'm using it with my Apple TV and which is equipped with an optical audio output. Had to order an optical to analog converter to address this situation.
... research led me to believe that it has a good receiver and it does
January 4, 2016
I got this TV because I use an over the air antenna and my research led me to believe that it has a good receiver and it does. I get channels my Vizio doesn't get so I'm really stoked with this TV. The picture is sharp and beautiful. I didn't give it 5 stars because the program guide doesn't show what programs are coming, only what's on now. Also, there seems to be light emitting from the edge of the TV. You don't notice it when you're watching TV that fills the screen but when you watch a movie and there's a top and bottom black boarder, that's when you notice it. There's a bright spot in the lower right corner that is a little distracting. Other than that, I love it.

The tv is screwed firmly into the stand yet it still tilts slightly backward - it doesn't stand up completely straight in the stand. Huge bummer. makes it weird to watch. Hoping that the new stand they are sending me (for free) fixes the problem. Otherwise, the picture is great and the sound is much better than I expected it to be without a sound system.
Can't beat the price and Samsung quality
December 28, 2014
Let me start by saying I really like Samsung products. So when this went on sale at Thanksgiving I decided to upgrade one of our TV's. It was easy to set up. We use an antenna to receive channels so I just wanted to get rid of our LCD that didn't have a built in digital tuner. This scanned for channels and in a matter of minutes we were able to start watching. The picture quality is very nice. With the channels that broadcast in Hd looking stunning! Sound is much better than our older Samsung. The remote is laid out nicely with bigger channel and volume buttons. I don't think it was mentioned in the description but it does have a usb port in the back to plug in a flash drive for movies, pictures etc. It is not a smart TV. I prefer using a streaming device like Fire TV, Roku or apple TV. So far very happy with this TV.

I bought this to replace a 32" TV in a limited space environment. The lack of a large bezel meant it fit perfectly. The picture quality is very good, but it suffers from low volume and there is no output for external speakers, nor bluetooth. I can play the audio through my home theater via the HDMI cable, but I don't always want a 7.1 system on.
Also, after only three months, the led screen went bad. LG repaired it under warranty, but being without TV fro three weeks was a pain. Fortunately my DVR records whether a TV's connected to it or not, so I didn't miss out on most of my favorite shows. It has been working perfectly since the repair, but truthfully, I keep waiting for it to break again.
Beautiful TV .........with poor sound
January 30, 2016
Very nice TV but hard to turn on with the remote control for some reason. Also has crappy sound. What I like is the very nice design of the frame and stand. It looks like a much more expensive TV than it is, and goes great with very modern furniture. It is a VERY nice looking TV.

Actually I think they've upgraded the sound system and made some other improvements on the new model that I could have purchased for a few $ more, but it doesn't look as nice as this one. I guess that says a lot for my priorities.
Picture OK-- sound is the pitts
December 17, 2015
The picture is very good but the sound is quite weak. At first I thought it was bought at a good price-- but not now. I have to be sitting close to the TV and there be minimal extraneous noises to be able to adequately hear it at maximum volume. I bought external speakers to use -- but there are no outputs for external speakers. The existing RCA jacks do not support output audio signals. The supplied owners manual only specifically describes other LG models-- not this 43LF5400 model. I was only able to discover why my newly purchased external speakers would not work by going to other owner reviews. Other reviewers have offered expensive and convoluted remedies for the sound problem, but why go to the trouble?

This 43" looks bigger than I expected it to be. The TV leg stands were easy to install. But the biggest drawback is sound: on this TV, am the sound is just terrible! Picture quality is good but "vivid" mode really messes the picture big time so I just stick to Game mode. For $300, I expected a little more but I'm keeping it.

UPDATE (5/21/16): It's been little over 5 months since I had this TV and it's been great so far. Vivid mode looks better when sitting further away. Sound still sucks but I got my own 5.1 surround sound.
Good TV, but does not have a Optical Digital Audio out.
November 10, 2015
Good TV, but it does not have an optical digital audio out. I have uploaded a photo of the back of TV, which will hopefully make it crystal clear to folks. I guess this product changed at some point. Too bad, because it is a fine looking display otherwise.

For the money - Great small room T.V.
January 17, 2017
T.V. is nothing special, used for a small apartment as a gift, the recipient loved it since she moved up from a 24 inch "monitor".... Does the job in usual Samsung fashion though - easy to setup, shipped really protected and all in all a nice setup.
Good for the price
January 16, 2017
Better than good for the price. I'm not a technology chaser. One star off for instructions to use "M8" screws for mounting. The holes are not "M8." They measure at closer to M6 with 1mm threads than 1.25mm M8. But I I'm still trying to verify they are M6.
Update 23-Jan-2017: The holes are M6. Maybe another star off for megacorp arrogance.

Great color, sound not as good as I'd like
Terrible motion blur, otherwise OK for the cheap price, but there are better options.
April 7, 2016
Overall, the picture quality is quite decent for the cheap price range. However, this set suffers from some really extreme motion blur. Only a couple other reviews that I read here mentioned it, but to me it was extremely noticeable. Everything in motion smears across the screen, certain things moving fast enough leave a visible shadow/trail behind them as they move.

This TV is perfectly watchable without a discerning eye, but I would not recommend buying it as your primary TV. Might be a good budget option for a guest room or somewhere else people aren't going to be paying too close attention.

All of this is with the "smooth motion" settings (AKA soap opera effect) turned OFF of course. If you don't know what that is, or it is something that you don't notice/doesn't bother you, then maybe you will not be as picky as me and the TV will look fine to you. I didn't even try watching the TV with those settings turned on, I would guess that it might help with the blurriness at least somewhat.

I ended up returning it, did a little independent research on RTINGS.com, and decided to spend a little bit more money and get a Samsung 6200 series instead. If thats a little too expensive, take a look at the Vizio E series, which is comparable and a little bit cheaper.
Please take care when you ship these expensive items!!

The TV works great... so far. The box came damaged and the foam that surrounded the TV itself was broken.

I would give this TV a full 5/5 because it looks beautiful and works great with my chromecast, steam link, and soon my amazon firestick.

The TV was even delivered a day early!

The product itself is great

The shipping was great

The handling... not some much

Very Dissatisfied Customer
May 25, 2016
I purchased this 43" TV 11-28-15, it was delivered 12-2-15. By 5-2-15 I had sound, but no picture. Tried all the troubleshooting possible, but ended up calling LG Service on a Mon., said someone would be out on Sat. I had explained exactly what the problem was, figuring they would be better prepared to take care of the problem. The guy came but said he didn't have all the parts. So then I find out that the part needs to be ordered and it's going to be 3 weeks before it's available. I was not happy as I'd already been without it for a week. I called Customer service, spoke with a supervisor, who was very cold, rude and without even an apology or a sorry for the situation. I looked and found they have had more than one of these complaints on this model, which tells me something. They should be ready for repairs in a more timely fashion or replace it if you are under warranty. Now it is past 3 weeks and here I am, still unhappy and no TV. They have lost an LG customer.

Had problems with it after 6 months.
February 28, 2017
I was quite surprised how big this TV was when it arrived. When I put it on it's stand I didn't really care for the size. It just seemed too big for my living room. The color was ok and the set was very basic for it's price range. It was nothing fancy and the menu and remote didn't offer much to explore. I kept it as a means to watch mostly television not high definition DVD's or games. Unfortunately, after like 6 months I started to have problems with the set. At first, I started to get bad reception and some channels didn't come through. I had to scan the channels over again to recover the lost channels only to have other channels blocked out. I never had this problem before with my other televisions. Then I noticed a small thin vertically solid colored line running down the side of the screen. Over a two week period, 3 more vertical lines developed of various shapes and colors on the screen that made the TV obsolete and hard to view. I was very disappointed because I was hoping this TV would last a few years until I could get a new set. I called Amazon and discussed the problem with them. Fortunately, they allowed me to return the set for a refund minus a $55 dollar charge for using the set for 6 months. On one hand I was happy to get at least a partial refund for a useless TV but, on the other hand, I am now without a TV. Next time I purchase one, I am going to invest more money and purchase it in a brick and mortar store so I can see with my own eyes what I'm buying. I don't recommend this TV.

DIrecTV users Beware! On/Off does not work.
December 11, 2014
I bought 5 of these TVs with intent of using them with DirecTV receivers. One reason I chose Samsung (and not an off brand) was for the confidence I had thinking they'd be functional on a basic level with my DirecTV remotes. Wrong. So wrong that I am returning all of them. The problem is getting the DTV & TV On/Off button to operate the TV. I will not. The best you can accomplish is to slide the slider on the DTV remote over to "TV" then push the "PWR" button then slide it back to "DTV" mode and repeat this every time you turn off an on. It's manageable for most I guess, but not for my application. Samsung support just says it's DTV's fault, but DTV says they are seeing this in many new Samsungs, and frankly I've not seen this issue on dozens of TVs I've installed for the past 15 years. THANKS Samsung for sending me back to 1995. I don't like it. They are all going back. I expected more. I'm getting LG.

PS. The volume +/- works fine - just the ON/OFF doesn't work. When you do press the ON/OFF button a message on the TV says "Not Available" - Great, it hears me and it knows what I want, but rubs it in my face telling me what its not going to do. Brilliant.

Headaches Galore!
May 16, 2016
Pros: Looks sharp, the silver finish around the screen is nice looking and a little different than the normal black TV's everyone has.
Cons: Everything else. From the day we got the TV it always took two presses of the power button to get it to turn on but I overlooked this as a minor inconvenience not worth returning the product over. Then in March (approx 3 months after purchase) it stopped working. First it would turn on but receive no signal from anything connected to it, then lines started to appear on the screen, then it stopped powering on altogether. I called LG customer service who sent a technician to my house (Valley TV Repair) and the technician was friendly, polite, and explained the repair (TV needed a new motherboard). After the repair the TV worked fine, but the two presses of the power button to turn it on was still occurring. Again, I overlooked it as everything else seemed to be functioning. Now it's May and we're back to the same problem. No matter what I connect to the TV through HDMI ports it is not receiving any kind of signal. Again, I called LG customer service and explained that I would really like a refund or replacement product as the TV is obviously faulty but they will not provide that until a technician has deemed the TV unrepairable. So here I am waiting on Valley TV to come to my house and repair the TV again. I only hope the technician will tell LG it's a faulty product so I can replace it with a TV that actually works. The other TV in my house is a Sharp AQUOS 55" and it has functioned flawlessly and the picture is great. If I can get a refund for this LG a Sharp will be the replacement.
Broken after 5 months and Service Center is a joke
May 13, 2016
Purchased the TV in December and it broke in April. The TV wouldn't power up so we called LG and they sent out a technician who took the TV for a week. When the technician returned the TV it would power up but it had no HD capability. I have now been dealing with LG service center after the 2nd technician they sent out could not fix the issue. First the product shouldn't break less than 6 months after purchase. Second the technicians that LG contracts should provide better service and have more expertise. Third, once two technicians cannot fix the TV then LG needs to replace the broken product. It has been three weeks since the initial call to LG and we are still with a broken LG TV. BTW when you call LG service center you will be talking to someone in the Philippines that is very good at sticking to their script. God forbid you want a real answer. I finally received the number to the LG executive service center and they are trying to figure out how they can fix this problem. It doesn't seem too complicated to me, when your product is faulty and you cannot fix it then you replace it. I am hoping that they reimburse me what I paid so I can go with another brand.

Samung TVs have bad DTV tuners (or possibly bad support - or possibly both)

This is NOT the TV for you, if you plan on getting channels over the air. The digital tuner seems to struggle with even "normal" strength signals. I have been having intermittent problems with major stations (ex. ABC). I confirmed the Samsung TV is the problem, since I also have an LG TV that does not have an issue (both TVs running at the same time on the same channel, with the signal split between them). And I also have a digital tuner (from when I still had a CRT TV) that I can use to test the signal strength. To reliably get TV, I have to use my old digital tuner hooked up to the Samsung! The only problem is the separate tuner was never designed for an HD TV - just a CRT, so I end up with SD on my Samsung if I really want to reliably watch channels (ex. NBA Finals). And why should I have to use a separate tuner (with it's own remote) to watch TV on my new Samsung?

I have wasted 20+ hours emailing and talking on the phone to various levels of Samsung support, who really seem to want to help. Although the Level 2 support never called me back on the last call. But I still cannot get an onsite technician, even though it is under warranty. A few of the support staff seem to understand the problem, as I have to go through the same steps each time (adjust the antenna, reset the TV, etc). I explain that I can lose the signal for minutes or hours. I can then plug in another device (separate tuner or TV) into the SAME coaxial cable and get signal. If I switch to back to the Samsung, I may get an error message. Or I get a garbled signal. Or strange things happen (ex. I switch to another station, but still get a few seconds of the PRIOR garbled signal).

So either:

1. Samsung tuners require a really strong signal (my Tivax tuner shows the signal strength - really neat for troubleshooting)

OR

2. I have a defective TV and it is REALLY hard to get Samsung to do anything about it.
