Five Star Reviews: | 53% I would recommend July 31, 2017 It does it's job, I had to actually turn it the opposite way (I was using apples) to get anything to come out. It's very easy to clean, it's just bulky with all the parts. Overall it's a great product if you're in need of a food mill. I would recommend. We like it. January 18, 2017 This was a gift for my wife and it appears that it is everything she was looking for. | 72% Very Happy with Purchase September 15, 2016 I purchased this as a gift for a family member who has recently started canning. He is extremely happy with it. He loves the rack, which makes taking jars out of the water bath easy. It is also very large so he can do bigger batches. It's heavy duty and quality made. I expect it will last many years with proper care. Made jam making much easier August 19, 2016 This was my first time making real jam - actually sterilizing the jars and then processing them after. I was originally going to use a large pot to process the jars and tongs to remove them once they were don't. I'm so glad I decided to buy this canner instead! It even comes with canning instructions. The rack to lower and lift the jars worked perfectly. It was a tad to big for the amount of jam I was making but over all, this made my jamming process a lot easier. I've only used it once, but it seems made of a lightweight yet sturdy material. Very useful, we love it! August 2, 2016 This has proved to be a very useful purchase. We initially bought it just for water baths, but it's a great size for making large batches of stocks, soups and stews! It takes up quite a lot of room on our stove and overlaps the next burner, so that it's unusable. But that's hardly a complaint. In fact, we are thinking we may need a 2nd one very soon! Very nice pot for stock and canning July 25, 2016 I like this because it is large enough to make my stock in, as well as using it for my canning. I've already made pickles. It was really great to get the insert to lift the jars in and out of the hot water. And my pickles turned out great. I haven't made them in a very long time. This is a great deal. MUST GET if you are new to canning as I was. Love it ! January 22, 2015 Brand new to canning but used this my first batches of 3 jams for Christmas gifts. Turned out great. Seems like it cost me a fortune to get bottles and the canning kit and then the fruit, etc. but now that I have all, I will be making a lot of jam. I made fresh peanut butter in my Vitamix so gave both in matching bottles with tags. Cute and very liked. Still getting calls about the banana jam. Great pot. Perfect and did not break my wallet. Made in the USA June 5, 2013 After attempting to make jam without a waterbath canner, I ordered this item directly. It's just like the one my mom used when I was a kid, and I look forward to many years of happy canning. The quality is better than the others I've looked at lately in the stores, and the price on AZ was far less. Made in the USA is a great perk, and something I look for when purchasing, so I was glad to see my faith in American made products was met with a quality item. | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet |
Four Star Reviews: | 15% but works great for most other thing I have used it for May 1, 2016 Inefficient for tomatoes, but works great for most other thing I have used it for. I do wish they had a special berry screen, as some blackberry seeds sneak by. Part of the is around the edge, so that is it's main flaw, but overall very few seeds. Good product for the price, already have to years and entering third. Certainly cheaper than a Squeezo, if a bit limited. This is a wonderful well made product August 28, 2015 This is a wonderful well made product. I would have given it 5 starts if it had some way to support it on the bowl beneath it. Some notches in the lower rim would help provide some stability during use. The finest blade caught all but a few tomato seeds and made a nice smooth sauce. This is light years away from pushing it through a strainer with a spatula! On to the applesauce. It is a really well made thing. a certain ... November 12, 2014 It is a really well made thing. a certain old school utensil, I use for jams and sauces. I might be using it wrongly or just impatient, but I've had success 3/10 times. Sometimes its my fault, others IDK. Don't overload it. BEWARE with hot ingrediants. Lg batches will tax your arms. Make sure everything is ready to go before starting. You have been warned Works great but we should have exchanged ours. September 25, 2014 The mill works great but out of the box the outer metal was a bit jagged and even sharp where the brackets are welded on to the pan. We didn't return it because we were too damn excited to start making applesauce so I don't have any comments (or complaints) on how they handle returns. I would have only asked for an exchange since the product works great! | 15% Like it August 14, 2017 Very big and will not fit on one burner on my electric stove. Also, left a brown mark on white top after boiling so hot for so long. But it has a great price and got the job done. this is great! The pot keeps even heat and boils nicely March 27, 2017 I would give 5 stars except for the fact that the rack has some rust in the edges after one use. I'm sure after a while, I'll have to replace it. Don't want rust all over my jar lids. Otherwise, this is great! The pot keeps even heat and boils nicely. For the good price, I highly recommend! The rack it comes with is pretty flimsy and started to rust almost immediately but I ... January 16, 2016 Does the trick for canning quart, pint and half-pint jars. The rack it comes with is pretty flimsy and started to rust almost immediately but I only use it to keep the jars off the bottom of the pot so it's not really a problem. It's also useful for those rare times I'm cooking a dozen ears of corn, or steaming lobsters. I'd buy it again. Perfect for what it is. October 27, 2014 This is a great addition to my kitchen. I love to cook and bake. This is the same canner my grandmother and aunts use, and it's clear why: it's extremely good at that job. Upon receiving it, I immediately rinsed it out and got started canning the applesauce I had just made. The pot is sturdy and well-made (although only single-layer metal), and the rack is stable and sturdy as well. It's huge and holds a lot of water. I only put six 8 oz. cans in it, but it could've easily held nine or ten. Overall, the canner worked exactly as intended.Pros: cheap, does its job, large, sturdy.Cons: takes a long time to heat water (because it's so big), probably wouldn't be good for much other than canning/boiling water (since it's single-layer metal and not as good at distributing heat). Basic but functional March 5, 2014 I'm very new to canning so don't have much to compare to but this seemed like a reasonably good set. I've used it a couple times and seems to work well. Takes a very long time to heat up the water to a boil but it is a very large capacity! It would be nice if the rack had more structure to it to hold the jars in place (they can fall over fairly easily while you're trying to move them) but that might prohibit jars of different sizes.Overall, good quality and functional set. Bought to replace my steamer canner January 3, 2014 Nice size. lightweight -- just what I expected. I had a similar-sized steamer canner for the past 10+ years that I have been limping along with. I didn't relish the idea of waiting for water to boil (instead of using steam) but it wasn't a big deal at all. Plus, it just seems a lot safer. I did return my first one because the enamel was chipped on the bottom. The replacement has some imperfections in the coating, but I think it will be fine (at least I hope so) | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet |
Three Star Reviews: | 9% I am hoping more practice makes me better at using it January 12, 2017 I am still trying to get the hang of this. It takes so long to get the stuff through. I bought to make NO lump mashed patatoes and it worked but took forever. I am hoping more practice makes me better at using it. I saw it on one of the cooking shows and they made it look so easy. It is not. it is easy to assemble and easy to clean December 18, 2015 I have used it once and never used a food mill before. It will take me a few experiences before I master this piece of equipment. More positively, it is easy to assemble and easy to clean. Would like to see a tension adjustment. December 7, 2015 The tension doesn't seem to be adjustable unless I just don't know how to do it. It works ok but my old one actually worked much better. It's just that my old one got a little rusty. I doubt this one will ever rust so it'll do! Ideas needed or I am returning it December 8, 2013 I'm not totally sold on this mill. I did successfully mash potatoes with it, when they start to spin without coming through, all you have to do is reverse a bit and go forth again. I did try dry herbs to separate them a bit, but it did just spin so maybe others have had their potatoes too dry. It is not made for dry products so it's ok that my dry herb project was a bust. MY issue with it is this - it is darn heavy! It is really well made in the details, however I couldn't do any work with it without a hand from another to hold it in place on the bowl because it is also slippery. I think I would prefer one with legs. Before I return it, I wanted to check here to see if anyone had a suggestion for how to get it to stay still on a bowl or not tip the bowl over without having extra hands or holding it in the air. | 6% Rust after 1 use! September 20, 2017 I used the water bath canner and once i was done, I washed/put away. I used it again a few days later and noticed rust on the rack edges and on the pot itself. I have soft water that is also filtered so I am very disappointed that its rusting and makes me question the material. Other than that, it does the job. Canning rack rusts July 18, 2016 I guess I shouldn't have expected too much at this price point. The canning rack rusted the very first time I used it. The pot seems fine though. Works for minimal canning. June 24, 2016 Good starter kit but took forever to boil on my electric stover. I assume the units that cost more have a sturdier bottom that conducts heat better. If you just can a few things a year this will work just fine. great pot though November 11, 2015 Can't use this on my glass cook top so I have to use the burner on my grill outside to can...great pot though, big and heats quickly... Good cheap canner, but can NOT use on Glasstop stoves!! June 11, 2014 No where in the description of this item did it say it could not be used on glasstop stoves. So I can't use it.However, the quality seems to be decent for being a cheap canner, and the rack inside seems pretty durable, not thin cheap metal where it bends. Seems decently thick and sturdy. Wish I could have used it! I ended up having to buy a Presto aluminum pressure canning pot! Good, but flawed November 15, 2012 Good product, but there was a flaw in the porcelain coating on the inside. This will affect the life of the product. I, personally, don't feel it's worth the time and trouble of returning the item. But, when it gives out, I'll replace it with something different. | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet |
Two Star Reviews: | 6% Not as good as expected January 11, 2017 Didn't work as expected, and the plates didn't fit very well in the bottom of the mill. Worked well at first but failed within a year. June 10, 2016 I used it a few times. It worked very well at first but now doesn't seem to do anything. Just moves the tomatoes or apples around and get a lot of seeds now. Also very awkward to crank. The model without feet feels very unstable. Wouldn't recommend for anyone intending to use a lot or in large volume. SoSo August 5, 2015 Not sure I really like this thing but I really needed it to make Ketchup. Sad I have to keep it. Invest and buy one of better quality Not satisfied May 3, 2015 Didn't work as expected. I worked with boiled apples and tomatoes and lot of it got wasted as it didn't pass through the strainer. Returned back. This device is very cumbersome and somewhat unwieldy. It ... April 10, 2015 This device is very cumbersome and somewhat unwieldy. It takes a lot of time and effort to mash potatoes, and it doesn't work for boiled carrots, for example. | 3% Don't get this if you have a flat cook top ... January 1, 2016 Don't get this if you have a flat cook top. The bottom is ridged. I had to return it as you can risk cracking the top of your stove. Thin, Lightweight. but still works. November 28, 2015 Very thin, not your mothers pot... porcelain chips when pot is easily dented. ONLY to be used for canning December 14, 2014 I returned this because once it arrived I saw that it was ONLY to be used for hot water bath canning. I wanted it for a stock pot - wasn't going to work for that purpose. problems with quality October 24, 2013 There was a dent in the pot and a couple sharp places where the surface was not smooth on the edge of the lid and pot. If I am not careful when washing/handling it I could cut myself on it. Also the package was bent when delivered, as have been all packages I have gotten from Amazon. granite ware pot great, rack not September 2, 2012 The granite ware pot that I purchased is great. The rack is very questionable. After one batch of canning the coating on the rack is all bubbled up and peeling off, Not sure if it is safe to use again, not sure what chemical is spayed on it. I tried to email seller but it is the only item I have purchased from amazon that there is no options to leave feedback for seller. Not sure how to return one piece of a product. The pot is a great size. | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet |
One Star Reviews: | 17% Bad product August 26, 2017 Hopeless product. The handle fell off at the first trial use! The tool can't mash potatoes because of too big a gap between scraper and hole tool. A phone call to the supplier got me a, "contact Amazon!" This food mill does not work. I thought the ... January 10, 2016 This food mill does not work. I thought the first one was defective and I returned it. I got a new one as replacement but still does not work. You cannot use it to smash potatoes or to make a puree. It simply does not work. It moves the food around without pressing it through the holes. I returned this item after trying it ONCE.. ... December 14, 2015 I returned this item after trying it ONCE...was far "cheesier" than I expected & did not process my berries well at all. Still looking for a high-quality, high performing mill for all the berries/rose hips I process for jams/jellies/syrups & fruit butters. Useless for mashed potatoes April 8, 2015 I bought this to mash potatoes for Easter. It was useless. I had to scrape out the potatoes and mash them with my old fashioned masher. Don't waste your time or money if you are planning on using it for potatoes mostly. Can't speak to other uses so maybe it is helpful for the other food types but I'm not willing to find out. | 4% but the bottom of the pan was caved in about 1/2" deep at the worst spot, and what's worse August 23, 2015 I guess I really shouldn't be surprised, given the price, but the quality of this product just isn't there. My pot came very well-packaged in a cardboard box with inserts, but the bottom of the pan was caved in about 1/2" deep at the worst spot, and what's worse, the nature of the damage means that the pot sits cockeyed on a medium-sized burner. I'm not surprised about this at all though, because the steel is so thin they needed to corrugate the bottom to put some stiffness into it. I'd guess that the steel is probably around a 26-28 ga (almost like thick paper), not including the enamel.Oh, and the lid doesn't sit flat on the pot. I guess I could use this on a campfire as a steam generator? I wish it would be worth my while to return this crappy thing. This had a dent in the bottom and the enamel ... March 18, 2015 This had a dent in the bottom and the enamel was coming apart on the inside. I had to send it back. Disappointed September 18, 2013 I have only used this canner a few times, and have been careful to empty/clean it gently when finished, but it already has a small rusty spot that appears to extend through the whole bottom of the pot. I fear it will leak before too long, and would have expected much better quality. Lasted 2 years...dissappointed January 15, 2013 Loved this canner at first. I bought it because it was slightly taller than my older one so it didn't boil over when I was processing quart jars. I can quite a bit but I expected the life of the pot to be longer than 2 years. Just this evening I filled it up and there was a small hole in the bottom edge...it leaks and is totally worthless. I have seen this happen in much older pots but not one that was this new. BIG DISAPPOINTMENT. Also, had to purchase a stainless steel rack after a month as the one included had rusted. Rack inside pot rusts quickly September 28, 2011 Avoid low price such as this. The rack inside the pot corroded within the first week. I now use clean towels in the bottom of pot to keep jars from breaking. The heavy duty bright green carrier by Ball Canning is good but doesn't fit but 5 small jars at a time. | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet |
