Five Star Reviews: | 53% I would recommend July 31, 2017 It does it's job, I had to actually turn it the opposite way (I was using apples) to get anything to come out. It's very easy to clean, it's just bulky with all the parts. Overall it's a great product if you're in need of a food mill. I would recommend. We like it. January 18, 2017 This was a gift for my wife and it appears that it is everything she was looking for. | 41% There are no reviews yet |
Four Star Reviews: | 15% but works great for most other thing I have used it for May 1, 2016 Inefficient for tomatoes, but works great for most other thing I have used it for. I do wish they had a special berry screen, as some blackberry seeds sneak by. Part of the is around the edge, so that is it's main flaw, but overall very few seeds. Good product for the price, already have to years and entering third. Certainly cheaper than a Squeezo, if a bit limited. This is a wonderful well made product August 28, 2015 This is a wonderful well made product. I would have given it 5 starts if it had some way to support it on the bowl beneath it. Some notches in the lower rim would help provide some stability during use. The finest blade caught all but a few tomato seeds and made a nice smooth sauce. This is light years away from pushing it through a strainer with a spatula! On to the applesauce. It is a really well made thing. a certain ... November 12, 2014 It is a really well made thing. a certain old school utensil, I use for jams and sauces. I might be using it wrongly or just impatient, but I've had success 3/10 times. Sometimes its my fault, others IDK. Don't overload it. BEWARE with hot ingrediants. Lg batches will tax your arms. Make sure everything is ready to go before starting. You have been warned Works great but we should have exchanged ours. September 25, 2014 The mill works great but out of the box the outer metal was a bit jagged and even sharp where the brackets are welded on to the pan. We didn't return it because we were too damn excited to start making applesauce so I don't have any comments (or complaints) on how they handle returns. I would have only asked for an exchange since the product works great! | 13% Good value August 22, 2017 Not as good as a Foley but half the price. I do like the fact that it is stainless steel and it works well after I made a small adjustment with the scraper pin. Four Stars April 5, 2017 Not quite what we though, tension screw did not really allow for some food processing Handle Uncomfortable December 18, 2016 The handle is uncomfortable if using for a long time. Not easy to take apart for cleaning. Otherwise it does the job. Too small. I should have ordered a larger one ... October 19, 2015 Too small. I should have ordered a larger one. My fault. Yummy foods October 24, 2014 I use this all the time. I am serious about my canning, and this has been great for my jams and applesauce. But let's be real here for a second though, it is not perfect. I happen to be 22 so i can handle the cranking and the wobbling much better than a little blue-haired old lady. I happened to have a bowl that this fit on perfectly, which helps a ton. Otherwise, trying to get leverage enough to crank it is a little difficult. Aside from that, for the price this is a stellar little dude. It makes such a creamy textured applesauce. For me, it was worth the money My husband curses at this thing on a regular basis ... September 25, 2014 My husband curses at this thing on a regular basis, but still uses it every time we make mashed potatoes. So, I guess he likes it. |
Three Star Reviews: | 9% I am hoping more practice makes me better at using it January 12, 2017 I am still trying to get the hang of this. It takes so long to get the stuff through. I bought to make NO lump mashed patatoes and it worked but took forever. I am hoping more practice makes me better at using it. I saw it on one of the cooking shows and they made it look so easy. It is not. it is easy to assemble and easy to clean December 18, 2015 I have used it once and never used a food mill before. It will take me a few experiences before I master this piece of equipment. More positively, it is easy to assemble and easy to clean. Would like to see a tension adjustment. December 7, 2015 The tension doesn't seem to be adjustable unless I just don't know how to do it. It works ok but my old one actually worked much better. It's just that my old one got a little rusty. I doubt this one will ever rust so it'll do! Ideas needed or I am returning it December 8, 2013 I'm not totally sold on this mill. I did successfully mash potatoes with it, when they start to spin without coming through, all you have to do is reverse a bit and go forth again. I did try dry herbs to separate them a bit, but it did just spin so maybe others have had their potatoes too dry. It is not made for dry products so it's ok that my dry herb project was a bust. MY issue with it is this - it is darn heavy! It is really well made in the details, however I couldn't do any work with it without a hand from another to hold it in place on the bowl because it is also slippery. I think I would prefer one with legs. Before I return it, I wanted to check here to see if anyone had a suggestion for how to get it to stay still on a bowl or not tip the bowl over without having extra hands or holding it in the air. | 8% The blade bites into the bottom in one spot and ... September 29, 2017 The blade bites into the bottom in one spot and the wire on the bottom does not skim the underside of the bottom. Not like it used to be. October 30, 2016 I used it once and it was good. The second time I used it ,, it fell apart. Nice with one negative. September 10, 2015 This product is good quality for your dollar. I like how it is stainless steel and is very sturdy. I got this food mill to make baby food for my daughter. My one negative comment is that the center nut leaked oil the first few times I used it. I even cleaned it really well before my first use and it still leaked oil into all of my baby food. It now doesn't leak oil but it was a drag to have to throw out a whole batch of food due to the mill contaminating my daughter's food! I do like the metal handle knob October 8, 2014 The pieces that hook over the edge of a bowl or pan are poorly spaced - they won't fit over anything larger than the diameter of the food mill. I had to bend them out to make them work at all. Also, once hooked onto the bowl or pan, the tool is not level. I do like the metal handle knob. This is a lightweight version of the traditional Foley. It works fine, and if it lasts five years I will be happy. It's not a Folley Food Mill December 26, 2013 I grew up with a Folley food mill in the house and I had one in my own house for at least the past 25 years if not longer. I moved about 1 1/2 years ago and unless it's still in an unpacked box it might have fallen victim to the lost treasure category. I needed to use it for the holiday cranberry applesauce and since I couldn't find it I tried to replace it. I couldn't find a Folley on Amazon so I went with a product that I thought was closest to it.It works much the same but it is much more flimsy in construction. This one is made in China and my sense is that it won't last all that long but until it falls apart it will do. In the meantime, I'm still looking to see if I can find a true Folley. |
Two Star Reviews: | 6% Not as good as expected January 11, 2017 Didn't work as expected, and the plates didn't fit very well in the bottom of the mill. Worked well at first but failed within a year. June 10, 2016 I used it a few times. It worked very well at first but now doesn't seem to do anything. Just moves the tomatoes or apples around and get a lot of seeds now. Also very awkward to crank. The model without feet feels very unstable. Wouldn't recommend for anyone intending to use a lot or in large volume. SoSo August 5, 2015 Not sure I really like this thing but I really needed it to make Ketchup. Sad I have to keep it. Invest and buy one of better quality Not satisfied May 3, 2015 Didn't work as expected. I worked with boiled apples and tomatoes and lot of it got wasted as it didn't pass through the strainer. Returned back. This device is very cumbersome and somewhat unwieldy. It ... April 10, 2015 This device is very cumbersome and somewhat unwieldy. It takes a lot of time and effort to mash potatoes, and it doesn't work for boiled carrots, for example. | 11% Return was easy and a smooth transaction November 25, 2014 Way too small to fit over a standard bowl or pot. Turning this was a bit of a challenge, I was used to my mother's food mill that had a smooth turn. Return was easy and a smooth transaction, which I do appreciate. Not a good food mill March 12, 2014 I had a Foley Food Mill for over 40 years, it was perfect, did what I needed it to do. This one was awful. Looks pretty, but was flimsy, I thought the different plates for the bottom would be a plus but they weren't. The smallest of them still let apple skin and seeds go through. I was very unhappy with this product. Have donated it to a local thrift shop. Unfortunately, I used it three times -- trying each time to use a different screen in the bottom, so could not return it. Otherwise I would have. Quality disappointment February 5, 2014 I had used my previous food mill for many, many (maybe 40) years but loaned it to a friend and forgot where it was. I was surprised and pleased to see a replacement was available. However, we used it barely over a year and the middle broke out of it. Just not the same quality as the old one. Milling for miles December 7, 2011 A food mill is essential for making applesauce. This food mill proved itself worthy, although taking it apart to clean it proved to be a chore. I'm not sure if it was meant to stay together or not. From my own experience with food mills, if you don't take them apart to clean them, the trapped nasties will contaminate your next food milling festival. It did come apart, and it did get put back together without too much of a strain. I used the foodmill to prepare applesauce , the center of the mill fell out. October 28, 2011 Foodmill is very cheaply made. It fell apart while making applesauce.I cooked the apples until very soft. While I was processing the apples with the foodmill everything was fine then the center fell out. So I returned it. |
One Star Reviews: | 17% Bad product August 26, 2017 Hopeless product. The handle fell off at the first trial use! The tool can't mash potatoes because of too big a gap between scraper and hole tool. A phone call to the supplier got me a, "contact Amazon!" This food mill does not work. I thought the ... January 10, 2016 This food mill does not work. I thought the first one was defective and I returned it. I got a new one as replacement but still does not work. You cannot use it to smash potatoes or to make a puree. It simply does not work. It moves the food around without pressing it through the holes. I returned this item after trying it ONCE.. ... December 14, 2015 I returned this item after trying it ONCE...was far "cheesier" than I expected & did not process my berries well at all. Still looking for a high-quality, high performing mill for all the berries/rose hips I process for jams/jellies/syrups & fruit butters. Useless for mashed potatoes April 8, 2015 I bought this to mash potatoes for Easter. It was useless. I had to scrape out the potatoes and mash them with my old fashioned masher. Don't waste your time or money if you are planning on using it for potatoes mostly. Can't speak to other uses so maybe it is helpful for the other food types but I'm not willing to find out. | 27% A piece of JUNK! DO NOT BUY! October 4, 2017 This was the worst food mill I have ever purchased. DO NOT BUY! I was trying to make apple sauce, the soft cooked apples would not go thru. I took the mill apart and put it back together twice hoping it would work. The soft cooked mushy apples still would still NOT go thru. This is a piece of junk! couldn't even turn the handle October 1, 2017 received promptly but was very disappointed as soon as I opened the box and tried a dry run just to see how it worked. I couldn't even turn the handle. It would turn about half of an inch and stop. It made an unnatural scraping squealing noise. In theory this would make a great mill. It has the feet and the wire that removes the food from the bottom but in reality it's a huge waste of money. 0 stars if I could Did Not Do What I Should September 12, 2017 My wife needs a food mill for her everyday dietary needs and to take with her on a trip. The Norpro 2 quart mill was a big disappointment to her. She tried to make puree out of softly baked apples but the flesh of the apples was not strained and it didn’t go through the sieve into the pot. The blade does not touch the surface of the sieve and the wire underneath does not contact it. We have a very old Foley food mill inherited from my mother that works much better. Can anyone recommend what model to buy? Don't Buy March 28, 2017 This product does not work very well. I cleaned it thoroughly prior to using and even ran it through my dishwasher just in case, ( I was going to use it to make homemade baby food). When I tried to use it with cooked sweet potatoes, there was a black oily substance leaking from the spring mechanism on the bottom-- very weird and gross!! Needless to say I couldn't return now that I had used it so I practically threw the money and the sweet potatoes into the trash. This item was a HUGE disgusting disappointment. GARBAGE September 19, 2016 I used this a total of 3 times. It does not work well. The blade is very shallow and therefore takes forever to mill anything. On the third time using it he upper portion of the mill became very loose and when inspected closely, the pin holding it in place had moved. NOT worth buying. Garbage!!! Bad Quality November 17, 2015 This food mill is awful quality. When I got it in the mail I washed it and made sure it was cleaned and sanitary and I dried it thoroughly. I used it to make applesauce and after running the first batch through I noticed drops and dribbles of black and grey liquid in the applesauce. Then I saw that the black and grey liquid was coming from the screw on the bottom. I took it apart, washed it again. Had the same problem. It ruined my applesauce and I'm returning the food mill. They don't make things like they used to. |
