Side by Side Comparison of: Kanu Surf vs Speedo

Nice swim trunks, fits just as advertised. They have regular pockets and 2 outside cargo pockets with velcro that will hold hotel keys. Also has a mesh holder inside that would hold a hotel key. Also the only metal eyelets are for the drawstring otherwise there is no metal to speak of which can be an issue at water parks (it scratches up their slides). The price was right and I'm really happy with these swim trunks. If purchases continue like this I'll be less leary of buying clothing online.

Absolutely love these swim trunks. They fit great and look great. The charcoal color is very nice. They are a nice lightweight material. Dry easily. Look good with a t-shirt before going for a swim.

Nice bathing suit. I usually wear a size 29-30 waist in pants and shorts, these fit absolutely perfect in a Small.

I bought 4 pairs of these in different colors for the guys in our family in keeping with our Christmas pajamas tradition during our Mexican holiday vacation this year. (I got the girls brightly colored pareos:-) The picture doesn't show the double white racing stripes down the side, and the write-up doesn't mention the mesh liner...... but, both are quite nice. My sons have 30-32" waists, and while the small size is adequate, it's a little on the smallish side for a 32" waist. All in all, good quality and smart looking!!!

I was pretty skeptical about buying a pair of swim shorts online. Having just moved to Phoenix from Seattle, I didn't have a pair, and had been to about 10 stores trying on several different brands. Some fit well, some did not. They were also very pricey($40+). I'm VERY picky about how my clothes fit, so I'm a tough customer. I ordered this pair as a large. I'm 6'0", 185lbs on a good day. Most of my shorts/jeans are size 33, give or take 1 size depending on the manufacturer. I figured the XL might have been too big, so I went with the L. I'm glad I did! When I got the shorts, I tried them on, and they exceeded my expectations on waist fit and length. There is enough room in the waist, and the length is perfect. They are very clean, nice looking shorts(no loose threads, cheap sew jobs, etc.). The netting inside is comfortable as well. I'm very satisfied with these shorts. The price is also nice, much better than dropping $50.

My husband swears by these shirts! He used to always get rashes from the sun, but now that he wears this shirt at the beach, pool, etc. he never gets a rash. It's been a godsend! They are comfortable and wash well (and line dry) well.

My husband burns, burns, burns in the sun, so I was hoping to save his back and shoulders by buying him a shirt he could wear and survive pool trips with the grandchildren. I was very pleasantly surprised that not only is it functional, but it looks nice when worn. It's also comfortable.

I bought these just prior to going on a Caribbean cruise and I just didn't need to get torched on vacation. I wore them in the pool and in the ocean, they fit great and dry quickly (and were a heck of a lot less expensive than some larger company's equivalent shirts). If you're looking for beach/pool wear that will get wet, this is the shirt for you!

I bought this shirt for my son and it is a great fit. I am just so happy that he is going to start the gym and get his health goals going. The quality is quite good that I am considering getting one for myself in this brand if they have it for my Aqua Zumba. Now he wants the red :-(

This is my second Kanu rashguard. I live in Florida and these are great protection when going to water parks. For the first shirt, I purchased my normal large size but found that when wet, it sagged a bit. So I purchased a medium this time and it fits perfectly even when wet. Great shirts, good material, well made.

I bought two of these shirts and the fit well. I read the other reviews and bought a medium instead of a large and the fit was great. Swam in the water rather than in the shirt 🤓. The neck line could fit a little better but overall I'd buy one again

Overall great shorts. I ordered two pair for a trip to Cancun and they worked out pretty well. One pair (silver) had a hole in the left cargo pocket where it looks like the sewing machine just missed the fabric when sewing a seam. Not a huge deal and Amazon quickly sent a replacement. For the price, the shorts are a great value. They fit well, are comfortable, and dry quickly. Pockets are nice.

I bought 2 of these, really like them because you can wear it by the pool or even when you go out. Nice trunks, my only observation is that they hold water in the pockets, not a major issue but a couple of side holes would solve the issue

Nice trunks but after wearing for a few minutes, I took the scissors to that way too small mesh junk on the inside. Now it's better.

nice basic swim shorts. Bought as a back up and ended up wearing them a bunch. Front velcro pocket held hotel key card when swimming in the ocean when I repeatedly forgot to take it out. I really like these.

Fit is spot on, shorts are inexpensive. Drawstring goes all the way around the waist, so you can tighten them securely unlike some of the new designs with the lace up front that can only cinch to a certain size. My only complaint is I wear my shorts a little higher than most which makes the mesh a little tight.

Shirt fits good, but it is a little shorter than I would have liked. As other people have said, the collar is also a little on the larger side. I probably would consider getting a larger size in the future. Overall, it was a good product at a reasonable price. It serves the purpose of why I bought it.

So I bought this to protect myself from chafage thinking that I didn't want to be one of those posers in a super tight muscle shirt trying to show off- come to find out, those other rashguards are tight for a reason! For the pool this might be fine- but for surfing or swimming in moving water: DANG the nipple chafage was horrible. Made me want to duct tape my nips to protect em haha. Just make sure you research what kind of rashguard you want first.Other then that, this has been great! Love the material and build quality.

Oddly this one fit my husband a little smaller than we thought, but was still fine and kept him from getting burnt at the beach in conjunction with sunscreen and shade.

I'm not sure what to expect from these. I've never had anything like them. Shirt fits well. Not the most comfortable shirt, but that's probably to be expected from this type of garment.

This a good shirt. I had a different Kanu one before (Kanu Surf Men's Mercury Upf 50+ Rashguard, Navy, X-Large), but that got lost. This one is lighter than that one. I liked how this one felt more like a t-shirt than a rashguard, but still worked well in the water. Just make sure you're drying it out in the sun, or it might take a little longer. Personally, I like how the neck is more like a t-shirt than the other rashguard I had before, which is borderline turtleneck. I bought the medium (M), because I didn't want it to be super baggy, and it actually fits perfect. I am 5'8'' 180 lbs, with a lil' belly and it isn't super tight, but not super loose. Seriously, it fits excellent.

Face it, one of the target markets (if not the only one) for swim shirts is large guys who don't have beach bodies. Meaning they generally have a belly of some size. There are plenty of skin-tight "athletic fit" swim shirts out there for the athletic, fit guys with small bellies. The rest of us look for something like this swim tee. I got an XXL, and brand new it still fits a bit tighter than most of my XXL tee shirts. However, that isn't entirely a bad thing because you are wearing it in the water, and baggy would drag you down. I'm 6'0", 275 lbs., and the XXL was about maxed out. If you are taller or bigger than me, I suggest you keep looking. Otherwise, just be realistic about your size, considering that most American retailers are increasing their sizes, and that the sizes from Kanu Surf are a little conservative.Once wet, it does tend to cling to your body as you get out of the water, just like a swimsuit does. One pull and it releases, and then it generally hangs free and looks good. I was very happy with it, it let me focus on swimming with my kid instead of worrying about my farmer's tan and size.

Fits good but feels bit cheap with the material.
Somehow it hurts my private spot with sewing line between legs in water.

the trunks were acceptable, I expected them to be longer than I received, but I am over 6 feet and should have known they would not be at my knees. The trunks are acceptable for most people.

The come almost to my knee cap. I wish they were just barely longer. The mesh also is too shallow within the shorts so you either get "flossed" or your crack threatens to pop out. There's no happy medium for more than 3 steps. I'm not crazy tall either. Just 5'11".

Cheaply (stitching is loose and rushed looking) made but fits the bill. Have used them for one vacation and will probably hold up for several more.

I did not realize they would make a swim suit that becomes see through when wet. I wore it once and felt like an idiot so i'll probably never wear it again. Kind of a waste of money. Get it in a dark color.

Shirt is made of nice material but it is no more made for swimming than a cotton shirt is.Shirt absorbs water and then clings to your body like a slimy newspaper.Dries fairly quickly but if you are hoping to actually swim in this shirt I think you will be disappointed.

XL was more like Large.

The shirt quality is great. My only gripe is that it doesn't match the shorts of the same color. I purchase three pairs of shorts and "matching" shirts. The royal shorts are great, but the royal shirt is much brighter blue. I will be returning JUST this shirt and keeping all the rest.

We measured my husband's chest and waist and ordered the "correct" size according to the chart. We recieved the shirt and it was way too big, which was disappointing because we needed it for vacation. It served its purpose but was a little awkward because of its size.

Shirt has no strechyness to it at all like I thought it would. Stitching is very subpar, have worn it 3 times and a lot of the stitching along the bottom edge has come undone. Not a real big deal to me but it might be to you!

If all you do is play in a pool or jump waves in the ocean this shirt is probably ideal. Certainly provides UV protection. If you are a lap swimmer, this shirt does not stay tight to the body and adds some degree of resistance. I found it useful to tuck the shirt into my swimsuit. This helped for a while but at the 1 mile point the shirt was out though less floppy than the first day when I wore it outside the suit from the get go. Takes a while to dry- not a rapid dry in the sun as I thought it might be. Had to struggle a bit to peel it off while still wet.

I have 2 older pairs of the Kanu Surf Swim Trunks (about 6 years old) that have faded from wearing. I recently purchased two more pairs of trunks (this review is for the navy pair) and also a black pair. The navy pair holds water in the leg pockets, and the money pocket (inside) is too small to hold US dollars. The shorts are slightly longer than my other pairs, and have a different "cut" to them, in fact, they have a different cut to the black pair I purchased at the same time. The product itself and the quality are not what I was expecting, especially since I already own two other pairs of the same product.

The mesh inside was not sewed in correctly or way too small. The trunk itself was fine, but the mesh made them unwearable. I returned them for a refund.

Left leg mesh elastic started to unravel from mesh on second use before they had even been washed. Did not contact seller as these came via APO location off the beaten path and not worth the evolution to try and return.

We purchased three pairs of these in two different sizes. Two of the three were fine, but one of the two size large shorts was NOT made correctly. I cut out the mesh to try to get them to feel better with no luck. Too bad I can't return them.

Useless shorts if you intend to body surf or swim in at all rough waves, b/c the pockets have cheap velcro that is too small and does not hold flap down. your money may swim away......other than that they are fine.

Length is too short and neck is too wide. Boat neck increases chances of sunburn on neck. Body width is wide, roomy, not skin tight like other rashguards. When worn swimming it rides up, exposing abdomen. Too short to tuck in.

Super Slim fit. People that wrote this Shirt is loose are people that wear 3 sizes bigger shirts all the time.

I liked the look and sizing of the shirt, but i was expecting the material to be more like my son's rash guard shirts that are more like a bathing suit material. It clung to me like a regular shirt when wet, held to much water, causing me to take it off to wring it out so it wasn't so heavy. It didn't dry fast like my son's.

Disappointed it is a blue panel not black. If it was in the description it was hidden and it look like black not blue. And the color options were not informative.

Be careful when looking at the colors of this shirt. I chose the goldenrod color for my husband since it is his favorite color and it came in neon orange. I looked at my order and it did say neon orange for the color but in the picture the color is goldenrod. Double check!! The quality of the shirt seems good and it would have been great in goldenrod.

I was very happy with several swim-related products I purchased for a vacation, and this was NOT one of them. I regularly burned right through the shirt. In fact, I had to start wearing sunscreen underneath the shirt. After a several days, I just ditched the shirt and relied on sunscreen for better results. By way of comparison, my wife and daughter have other swim shirt brands and didn't burn at all.A second issue was that this shirt started turning green a few days into the vacation from pool and ocean water. Perhaps this is inevitable because it is white. But it just started looking dingy (despite rinsing and/or washing with soap every day).I give it 2 starts because it fit very well and perhaps some of this issue is simply due to it being a white shirt (maybe darker colors offer better protection? Not sure.)

The photos do not show you two large , tacky lines running across the sides. Looks and feels cheap.

somewhat small, ordered 4 pairs with 2 all same size with three identical except color. of the three identical 2 fit perfect with the third being totally unusable. The four was the same size ordered but had to cut the lining out to be able to wear.

The mesh liner is way too small for the XL. After wearing a few times, I could barely pull them up far enough, and was chaffing all over the place. Had to stop at a store on the beach and buy a different pair.

The leg openings measure 24 inches in circumference. For a medium, this is way to big. I'm tall and thin and these fit like a potato sack. I might try the small. I have a 32" waist and I didn't stretch the elastic at all. The model in the photo seems to have reasonably buff thighs and the shorts look way to big on him. I assumed that maybe he was wearing a large.

Sent me a shirt that looked kind of like the picture but clearly not the one I ordered. Poorly made with cheap material. Disappointed. Stay away from this brand.

Smaller than expected, ordered a XL. The biggest issue is this shirt is super short, barely makes it to the top of my waist. If you are 5'8 maybe 5'10 you can get away with it. If you are 6 ft, forget about it.

Pretty well surprised by the positive reviews here. Found the shirt very cheaply made, with a rare combination of being both baggy all around and very short at the bottom. When I dove into the water, it rode up to my neck without fail (felt like a half t-shirt at times). Had to actually tuck it into my bathing suit. It had no cling whatsoever, which to me is odd for a "swim" shirt. I'm tossing it in the garbage after just a few uses.

I bought this for snorkeling while in Hawaii. While it fit well I had to buy a new one while on the island. Why, you ask? After swimming for about half an hour my nipples were rubbed so raw I thought they were bleeding. Not sure if it is the material or something they put in the material but I would NOT suggest getting this. The new one I picked up did not chafe at all.

The Large fit like an extra large. Hangs like a tent. Definitely get the medium unless your a big man.

I sprayed myself with sunblock and put on the shirt instantly turned yellow around the neck area. I have many swim shirts from other manufacturers and this one is the only one that ever did this. Looks terrible can't wear. Not lightly yellow.... YELLOW. Would never buy from this manufacturer again they haven't done their testing. People wear sunblock with their shirts.
