NO MORE manual booklet paper PROBLEMS
August 21, 2016
I bought it in August 2016 and reviewed the manual booklet carefully. The drill hole problems seem to be fixed, removing the phantom middle screw. The holes on paper match up perfectly. Make sure you still double-check though, just in case. :P
Attractive in my kitchen.
May 4, 2016
It looks great over my stove in my kitchen. Only have had it for a few days, so far, happy with it. I see i am going to Amazon first to make purchases, having a text once the item is at my front door. I love that, and it's helping me so much to not have to spend my time in traffic, shopping.Found this one quickly, Amazon had it marked as a "best seller". So this was the one i selected, and i'm happy with it. I haven't really looked at all the selections on it, but it has many. I installed it myself with my wife's help, i didn't like the newpaper thin template. The template to mark bolt holes should be stiff cardboard. If you install it, you need some basic skills, and two people are needed at times during installation. If i had to do it again, i would have run out and got some poster board to put the template on first. Anyway, haven't had this microwave long, but it's very attractive, at was at my front door two days after ordering. I am hopeful for many years of service from this appliance.
This thing sucks! (the air out of the room)
April 13, 2016
This thing sucks! Let me clarify- it vents very well. One of my biggest annoyances with Over The Range (OTR) microwaves is they typically vent poorly. Vent hoods are better at... you guessed it... venting. But I love the extra counter-space OTR's provide, even in decent sized kitchens such as ours. All the reviews (here and elsewhere) indicate the GE venting system is better than the rest. To get maximum airflow I vented ours straight out the back (had to move a stud, re-route a wire, but well worth it in the end). I would imagine this model would perform well regardless of vent-configuration (assuming your vent is designed well to begin with). Anyway, I can now enjoy my home-cooked Indian dinners without forcing my co-workers to endure last night's cooking.Oh, and it's pretty good as a microwave... powerful enough, even heating, good features, nice aesthetics. My only regret is not getting the higher-end model in the series. Anyway, if you want a microwave that literally sucks, then this is your unit!
I like it.
September 14, 2015
Still getting used to it, very different than my old one. It says it's a 2 man instillation, I did it alone. It has a lot of choices in it's automated cooking, 4-5 different vegetables to steam in different volumes...seems very solid I like it.
I made a great choice!!
July 9, 2015
This microwave is wonderful. All the bells and whistles that I'd hoped for; and more.
All in all, we are happy with our purchase.
May 27, 2015
Although the controls on this microwave oven do not work in the same way as our previous microwave oven, once we learned how to do the basic functions, we actually like it better than what we had previously. For instance pressing "2" gives you an immediate 2 minutes of cooking, and any of the other numbers on the keypad may be used for that number of minutes. The 30 second button is very convenient for a quick zap of a cup of coffee. The Popcorn button cooks a bag exactly right -- most kernels popped, but nothing burned. Probably most appealing of all, it does not sound like a jet engine is taking off in your kitchen, even though the fan is plenty adequate to pull undesirable smells from your range.

Great product
September 5, 2016
Great direct replacement for previous 8 year old GE. Magtron failed and repair to replace magtron unit was $100 more than new oven. Very happy with functionality of new unit. Not the fault of the product, but the oven arrived with a dent on the front corner that we missed until after installation. Unit works, but return and reinstall would be a pain, so we kept it. Otherwise this is an excellent microwave.
Very nice but with 2 problems that GE could easily fix
May 4, 2016
Has only been installed for about a week, so cannot comment on life span. Overall appearance is great - nice clean lines and the right amount of stainless steel and grey painted surfaces. Key pad is nice and easy to operate. Good exhaust fan and light. Overall, very nice product. I give it 4 stars instead of 5 for the following reasons:The instructions are horrible. The wording does not match the pictures and neither match what you actually need to do to install. Specifically I am talking about how to set up the fan if you are not venting to the outside (recirculating vent). Do a search online for a tutorial on set up - most manufactures are set up similar for over the range microwave recirculating vents. Also, as another reviewer mentioned, once installed, the top metal cover (the outer casing of the microwave itself) pulls away as the weight of the microwave hangs on the 2 mounting bolts. Not a huge problem and one that you really don't notice unless you are tall - I'm 6'2" and can see it but it doesn't affect the functionality of the unit, just an annoyance in an otherwise nice appliance. An extra screw or two would fix this.
Great Microwave, installs easily, works wonderfully
April 27, 2016
My only issue is that it was shipped with a small chip in the glass in the upper left portion close to the handle. Hardly noticeable, doesn't affect the performance at all.I was able to replace my older GE over the range microwave easily with this new one. I had to drill some new holes in the retaining board above it, but that was no big deal and the included template made it easy and it was a perfect fit. Make sure you secure the rear bracket using anchors that hold at least 75 lb each to be sure it's a nice and solid mount. Other than that, there's no reason that any person who is even semi-competent with a set of tools can't install this themselves without a technician. It does however take 2 people to mount it, so don't try and lift it on your own.
This microwave looks great and has all the features I wanted
July 26, 2015
This microwave looks great and has all the features I wanted. I bought this to replace a 15 year old GE Spacemaker microwave. It has all the features of the one I had and more. My only complaint is the instructions and the paper that the instructions and templatesare printed on are very thin and not that easy to see. My older microwave's manuals and template were normal paper. My new one is not. GE is apparently trying to save money on paper. Why would you build a high quality microwave and then try to save money by using cheap paper? The manuals were a bit hard to read on this cheap paper but my main problem was attempting to tape the template that goes on the bottom of the cabinet you will be mounting the microwave under. The paper was so thin that the only part that stayed in place when you held it against the bottom of the cabinet was where you had your hand. The rest of it just collapses and hangs down making it very hard for one person to tape it. GE if you are going to go cheap on the paper at least put the templates on stiffer/thicker paper. Other than the paper complaint and instructions not being the easiest to understand the microwave itself is very nice and I have no problem recommending it.
Oven and Fan Work Well but the Installation Manual is Flawed
May 15, 2015
The good news is that the microwave works well at what it is supposed to do. Also, the fan is as Consumer Reports says: robust in its performance. The fly in the ointment is the frustration inflicted upon the DIY installer by the fact that the installation manual does not match the design elements of the oven and when one calls GE to ask if they would like to know what the material discrepancies are, no one at three different departments can take that information and the most they can do is offer to send you the same, inaccurate manual. Here are the discrepancies: First the drill holes for the upper paper template do not match the holes in the oven. Work around: note the location of the holes on the oven and measure your cabinet space to match. Second, the installation manual repeatedly references a top-center screw hole that does not exist on the oven (nor is this phantom screw included with the parts that are shipped with the oven). Third, the manual references the use of a filler block to compensate for a cabinet front piece even when detailing the instructions for an installation where there is no cabinet front piece. Although time-consuming trial and error will produce an installed oven that works well, I just don't see why GE can't write a manual that reflects the physical realities of the product it sells.
Product was easy to install
April 12, 2015
Product was easy to install. Previous microwave was also GE, therefore it was nice to not have to change the brackets. Works well, although I haven't used all of the options on the panel. The stainless steel looks nice and up to date.

The power supply went bad in less than a year - it took the official repair guy almost 4 visits to deduce what exactly had happened - GE changed some parts up from the original schematics and repair dude had to phone them directly to get info on the changes - GE finally offered me $25.00 inconvenience payment - will not purchase another GE microwave :(

November 23, 2016
We've had this microwave for a year. It works okay, but there is a big problem. If we are cooking something on the stove or in the oven we have to have the fan on the whole time for it to work. This is even if we are just baking something. It gets filled with moisture otherwise. If we want to steam a bag of veggies the microwave will go off for the whole time, but the bag of veggies still comes out frozen as the unit will not work properly. It is very annoying to have to turn on the loud fan every time we want to bake something. I can understand needing it for the stove, but not the oven. Then, if the fan has not been on and we decide to use the microwave, we have to leave the door open for about 15 minutes with the fan on before it is usable. Poor design. Otherwise, it has worked fine for everything else.

The control panel does not even light up. If you are older such as I, then you can hardly read it without overhead lights on.
Works fine but check carefully for paint chips on the inside.
June 12, 2016
Works fine . . . after the first one had to be replaced due to paint chipping on the inside which is described as a risky situation. GE made me jump through some hoops to justify replacement which was irritating.
Nice unit, bummed at shipping damage.
April 17, 2016
Nice microwave, but like others arrived damaged with no visible damage to box. Was in a pickle since instructions tell you to cut out of box, so it was destroyed and had nothing to send back in. Figured most of damage towards rear anyhow under cabinet, so went ahead and kept unit as it appeared to work fine .... just some denting to outer shell.
Eh.
March 16, 2016
There was one of these installed in our brand-new construction home. Within a week of using it, it caught on fire. We assumed that we got a lemon, and the builder replaced it for us, saying we could get any kind of microwave we wanted. My husband did research and saw that this one was still so highly rated, so we replaced it with the same thing. We have had it for about two weeks and so far, so good. The other one definitely had something wrong with the computer board, because there are things that work better on this one ( The clock would shut off randomly on the last one, and some of the timing functions didn't work right). My big complaint with this replacement one is that it seems to cook things very quickly. Normally, this wouldn't seem like an issue for a device that is meant to cook things quickly, but it burns popcorn very fast and food starts splattering very soon after putting it in there. And our old house, we had a GE profile microwave that we loved for about eight years… But this one just isn't quite as good. Maybe we will make a trade with the tenants at the old house :-)

Good at first
August 8, 2017
Microwave worked great for 13 months. Now no warranty and it started to do an occasional arc. Shut it off and restart it and it would run fine, until today. The unit arced again and then the burning smell but no more arcing. With parts and a technician, it will cost more to fix than what I paid for it.

It arrived dented. I put it in anyway since I had already gotten ride of the old one.
Look at it first
September 28, 2016
The control panel is so dim I cannot read it from one foot away. GE says they won't do anything to fix it, even under warranty.
It sags!
September 5, 2016
Once installed it sags terribly in the center; 3/8' in my installation. This causes the door to be misaligned by 1/8' (see photo). I'm not concerned about microwave leakage, but I do anticipate future problems with the door closing due to the stress that's being placed on it. I can already see a stress dimple in the stainless steel facade. I would definitely return it if it weren't so difficult to take down, return and reinstall.
One large flaw.....
January 30, 2016
I like the installation and functionality of the microwave, but it has a huge flaw. The door handle is made of heat conducting metal, so if you are using your stove and then use the microwave, the handle burns your hands. =( So we are returning it.
... had to replace our Maytag microwave that we really liked. This one is even better...UPDATED 6/17...FIRE INSIDE!
January 9, 2016
****UPDATED 6/28/17********Bought Sept. 2015About 12 months ago, when cooking, the microwave would make a banging/clicking sound. GE said sometimes that happens, just keep the oven clean especially if cooking anything greasy (which we had been but was even more diligent with cleaning all the vents inside, it sparkled). This seemed to help. Three months after that, the light in the microwave got real bright and then blew out. GE said no worries. Last night, I cooked a potato using the baked potato button, as I always do. I heard a zzz, zzz sound...looked at mircowave and the potato caught fire. What a bummer! On to the next microwave...or stop using microwaves all together!September 2015 ReviewWe had to replace our Maytag microwave that we really liked. This one is even better. Nice bright light for cooking on the stove. There is a "soften" feature which works great for butter. There are a few options for steaming which is great for veggies. I think it cooks and reheats well without over cooking or reheating. Heats evenly. Powerful fan (that was one of the main reasons I bought this one). It took a bit to figure out all the buttons but it works well. I read so many reviews on the template being off for installation. I found after some trial and error that only one of the holes was a bit off.

Short life on a pretty good microwave.
August 21, 2017
I bought this product in May and it worked really well until August of the next year. Right outside of the warranty! I would have given this microwave a great review until this week. I looked online and followed the instructions to troubleshoot and repair it, but to be honest, I am not confident that something else won't go wrong with it. For the money spent I would have liked for it to last a long time. I don't think I'm going to but another GE product anytime soon. I liked the microwave while it lasted. I just wish it would have lasted.
Smoke filled house - Twice
February 23, 2017
This microwave has now failed two times in the past two months. It is 10 months old. Each time it ceased working and started smoking filling the house with a foul order. The first round, GE was very responsive taking the trouble call and getting a tech out. The HV transformer had to be replace but parts had to be ordered. They were drop shipped to my house and the tech showed up and installed them. Nice guy, very professional. No problem on the customer service end. This morning was the second failure and GE is setup for a tech to visit in a few hours. Hopefully, they will just replace it because I do not trust it any longer. Seems to be safety hazard at worse and massively annoying due to the smoke and smell in the house. I will update with their resolution.
Avoid, avoid, avoid.
December 14, 2016
Had it not five months and now its completely dead. Lucky its still inside the warranty, have to wait 6 days for a repair appointment.Keep looking. I have used GE for years but five months is ridiculous. The next time I buy it will be another brand.
Two problems is 13 months. No warranty coverage
November 29, 2016
Purchased October 2015. Stopped working 1 month later. The service covered under warranty. Stopped working again for a different reason November 2016. Warranty is one year so I am out of luck. Buying a new one but not GE.
Absolutely the worst customer service and quality
November 8, 2016
Absolutely the worst customer service and quality. I stopped heating food after 18 months. I couldn't get anyone on the phone and when I finally did, they said I needed a repair call for $99. I said what if it costs more than it would for a new one? They said if you choose to get a new one instead they will give me a credit for a new one...if you spend $1000! Such a rip-off. My previous microwaves lasted 7-8 years! I will never buy an appliance from this brand. Their customer policies are horrendous.
Will never buy GE appliances ever again.
August 25, 2016
I'm losing my mind. The microwave stopped working. GE warranty repair is the worst service on the planet. I've taken TWO DAYS off work waiting for them to fix a G.D. microwave.
