Well worth the price.
January 13, 2016
Great tool and easy to use. I had a huge problem with a moth infestation and despite countless boxes of moth balls, could not eradicate them. Within a week of receiving this, the quantity of moths was cut at least in half, probably closer to 75%!reduction and by the end of three weeks was completely abated. The zapper is big enough to easily catch a flying insect and delivers a quick powerful zap which effectively kills them instantly and eliminates suffering. Being that the button has to be held down to deliver a charge which stops as soon as it is released, it is impossible to accidentally zap yourself. If you are too curious for your own good like me and want to feel how powerful it is, you can do so but I don't recommend it, the zap stings quite a bit LOL!!!!!! This product is inexpensive, yet well made and sturdy and runs on 2 double A batteries (I don't think they are included but not sure). Regardless, even if not included still much cheaper than a big bug zapper. One side note, when I originally ordered this, the zapper that arrived was defective and did not work. I contacted the company through Amazon though and they immediately sent out a replacement which arrived within 2 days even before I sent the other one back which they paid for. This speaks volumes about the company. I would highly recommend this product.
BEST. PRODUCT. EVER. I bought 4.

BEST PRODUCT EVER!!!

Man this is fun!!! I must have over 100 confirmed kills on it so far since fruit flies invaded my home. Warning: depression will set in once all the bugs are gone but thankfully for me, they came back for another round of electrocute-the-bug two weeks later. Its a game of skill that develops hand-eye coordination and for each successful slaying, the reward is the crisp SNAP! of another fly getting electrocuted. I like this thing so much I gave one to all my family members. I couldn't possibly keep this much fun all to myself.

Yes, I zapped myself and yes, it stings but its not gonna kill you as far as I know. It feels maybe like a light bee sting if you accidentally get zapped, but to bugs it feels like a condemnation to Old Sparky. I highly doubt it would injure a kid if he or she accidentally got zapped but it may produce a few tears. I keep it in a safe place just in case.

Yes, you can kill tiny bugs with it. I have zapped a ton of really small fruit flies - flies that can easily fit between the wires of the racquet. Its either the swing that makes them hit a wire or it appears the electrical current in the wires that seems to almost pull them in to their death. Either way, with a bit of hand-eye coordination and quick reaction times, you too can become a professional level bug zapper.

Get this product. Not only is it gobs of fun, it actually works very well.
Awesome Bug Zapper but still, be careful when you use it because bugs aren't the Only shockable things lol
December 28, 2015
this is the Best bug zapper anyone could ever ask for. i've already claimed the lives of 4 bugs lol one more and i'll be a handheld bug zapping Ace lol. i call this thing my Weapon of Mass Bug Destruction lol one of the bugs i got was a spider, one of those daddy-long legged ones. that thing got vaporized lol i Definitely, Definitely recommend this thing to anyone who has bug problems. at one point, i used to find every possible way to keep bugs Out of my room. now, with this bug zapper, i'm actually trying to find ways to get bugs In my room just so i can ZAP! them lol this bug zapper is a little Too much fun lol a word of warning those: i would Highly advice wearing some kind of shock-absorbing gloves if you want to mess around with this thing and have it shock metal objects because, while it is a Lot of fun to see the sparks, i found out the hard way that electricity Does travel and if it hits your hand, whatever you had in your hand at the moment won't be there anymore because the shock will force you to throw whatever it was in your hand. Honestly, i would give this Handheld Bug Zapper 100 stars if it were possible because it Really Works and it's true that you only have to intercept the gnats in mid-air and as soon as they make contact......(X-P) < look at that sideways and it'll make sense lol, it's what the bugs will look like when they get fried like colonel sanders' chicken lol
I love this thing !
November 13, 2015
What a great bug killer. My problem are indoor moths, and small fruit flies. My garage seems to be breeding central for the moths. When they learn to fly they be-line into the house. I was constantly smashing them when they land on the walls or ceiling, which makes spots that I have to clean up. And there is the futile effort to clap ones hands together to neutralize them, (which is max. a 20% success rate). With my new electric tennis racket... they don't have a chance. The wires to the racket put out quite a charge. (PS, don't touch the wires to see how strong the current is, which is the 1st thing I did..) There is a button on the side of the handle that you push just as you are about swat a bug. This turns on the electric current to the wires. This thing even gets the small fruit flies that like the fruits on my kitchen counter. I actually feel a little bad about electrocuting the critters, but at least it's a quick death. Memorial services are held every Sunday...
Death Has Never Been This Fun
October 7, 2015
Death... who wants some? This is more fun than my childhood home entertainment system (sunlight, magnifying glass, and ant colony)! Doesn't just shock them... if the target becomes entangled you can "cook" them a bit!

For heavy, slow moving targets like yellow jackets, I find it is most effective, if you swing up at the flying beast from below, to ensure it remains in contact long enough to complete the kill... it stuns instantly from any angle, but for the big guys they sometimes need more than the quick zap to do em in for good.

Also nice against shield (aka stink) bugs as it kills without releasing the horrible smell.

The only disappointing aspect of this device is you only sometimes get the satisfying audible "zap" as the target is annihilated.

Just beware of any nearby practical jokers, as it won't take long for them to decide to try zapping a human with it...

Love to hear them zapped!
September 12, 2017
I purchased a larger bug zapper months ago, and in spite of a mosquito infestation in the woods, it just did not do it. So, this little zapper beats it all over because of the attractor scent. It is satisfying to hear them zapped so effeciently. This is the best I have owned.
Works like a champ in S. W. Florida
September 5, 2017
I read all the reviews and I saw a few bad ones but I saw a couple from others in Southwest Florida that liked it. I have it sitting on my patio table under the ceiling part which is the Lanai and the rest of my patio is open to the sun with pool and it's caged in. However there are all sizes of gnats that get in constantly and they bite the heck out of everybodyThe bites go from sting like a needle, two instant itching, two mosquitoes that are three times bigger than those in Michigan, to noseeums that leave red dots all over your legs and feet and anywhere else that will itch for days afterwards but you never feel the bite.I have my little Lantern looking blue light bug zapper directly under my outdoor lamp that I read and work on my computer on out here at night time and that things app like crazy the first three nights and I've been hardly getting any bites whatsoever. There are hardly any gnats all over my beautiful sunsella lamp shade screen. It is working awesome even though it is right under and next to a light source. I even hear Zips and zaps during the daytime because some of those gnats don't ever stop.Thank you for wonderful product that looks cool that's easy to use and I highly recommend it to anyone that wants to give it a try I've basically kept it try plugged in the first 3 days all day and all night so it kept running now I unplug it when I go to bed so the battery keeps it going in the last part of the dark and then I plug it when I come out in the day to recharge it for the night. I did not get a free one or get paid for this. I just truly like it. I'm thinking of getting a bigger Stinger to go down on the boat dock where the mosquitoes from the canal and all the trees are way bigger and they're voracious. I'll let you know if the bigger one works
This one really works.
August 24, 2017
I have bought quite a few of such things. This is the best. I'm getting fewer bites this summer. You can leave it plugged it and it lasts all night--at least I do and it seems just fine. I treat it gently because it has a bunch of lights inside of it and I don't want to break anything.
Kills small pests, large beneficial bugs unharmed
August 1, 2017
I bought a second one after I realized its potential. I'm a big fan of insect diversity and I know that blanket killing all your bugs indiscriminately can backfire! I want to kill pest bugs only! This zapper does just that for me. It kills mosquitoes and small flies but lady bugs, spiders and large moths are unharmed. It attracts them (when I open the trap a lot of large bugs fly out) but won't harm them. These bugs are not pests and they help to control bugs that are pests! I know! I lived in a complex that sprayed and killed every bug. We were soon over run by hundreds of spray resistant mega sized roaches. They grew so large because there were no other bugs eating their food. No bug diversity + no competition = roaches bigger than mice. This zapper is perfect for killing just mosquitoes and small biting flying insects. I am super glad I found this out!
This worked great until the second season when I fired it up ...
August 25, 2015
This worked great until the second season when I fired it up and one of the rods kept snapping even though there was nothing in there. I contacted the company (Kaz) and they promptly sent me a shipping voucher to return it. They provided a new replacement for free. I am very happy with the product and the customer service. This was still under the initial one year warranty and they honored it.
More Powerful Than You'd Think!
May 22, 2014
I live in an apartment that features a balcony looking over a wooded area. At night, the flying and biting bugs come out to annoy and feast upon me! Much to my dismay, I didn't have access to an electrical outlet on the outside. I certainly didn't want to run an extension cord out the sliding glass door, leaving a crack for those bugs to find their way in to my apartment and taunt me inside and out! I took to amazon, and came across this intriguing option. I was initially skeptical about how effective this would be, operating off of a rechargeable battery and all. None the less, I bought it. When I received it, I charged it up, and set her up outside. The black light didn't seem all that bright to me, but within minutes I started hearing ZAP, ZAP, ZAP! You can actually see the spark, so apparently bugs can see it very clearly! I'm listening to it zap a few of the blood suckers as I type this now! It's very effective, and easily recharged. I did notice that larger insects like months tend to take several zaps, usually right in a row as they bounce around, to succumb to their fate.My only complaint would be cleanup. As easy as it would be to just take that drawer out and dump the bug carcasses, it's not always that simple. If the bug hits the metal innards at just the right angle (and boy do they), they will stick to it rather than fall into the tray. I haven't had the desire yet to try and find a way to dismantle it and clean them off, but it will have to happen at some point. I don't believe this is reason to take off any points, since the same would be true for any similar product on the market.Overall, I am extremely pleased with my purchase, and I would highly recommend this to anyone with needs similar to my own!

A little bugged
September 6, 2016
Don't get me wrong I like the product and it does what it supposed to do most of the time. However, I have swatted several flies out by the picnic table or in the house and it merely stunned them and didn't kill them. There was a loud "pop" and the bug would drop to the ground and then I would watch it fly away. Unless they became embedded into the rackets mesh it went for the "stun" and not the kill. Now it seems strong enough, I can attest from getting accidently shocked myself. So WARNING: there is not protective barrier stopping a child from getting shocked if the button is depressed as there are with other models. Overall, it takes down the bugs and gives the humans a fighting chance so it is a WIN.
I'm glad I bought it.
August 5, 2016
I was skeptical. I usually use a good quality, regular old fly swatter from container store. Nice and stiff and really swats them. But it started to break from years of use and hard swats. Then we started getting wasps coming in through our chimney. I had exterminator come and spray nests outside, but we live in the woods, so there are always more where they came from. And I don't want to seal my chimney up even in the summer. I've got two young girls and needed a way to make sure I could get thrm and kill them. It WORKS. On spiders, too. I kinda lay it on them to trap thrm when they land and then I push the button and watch them fry. Then I throw them in the toilet and flush them. No mess from swatting. The girls aren't scared from me jumping around trying to kill the bug. It's a very calm process. I've been using it for a few weeks and it's great. My babysitter who is deathly afraid of any bug even used it on a wasp with success! She was very happy and was even giggling about it.
Great Product, Could be Slightly Improved
August 3, 2016
I decided to buy the Elucto Electric Bug Zapper after struggling to control the amount of bugs in my home. During the summer months, moths, flies, and other insects became a serious annoyance. Typical methods for killing these creatures were not effective considering the amount of bugs I had to deal with. The Elucto bug zapper came with 2 Duracell AA batteries included which pleasantly surprised me considering that the majority of products require you to buy batteries separately. Using the zapper is quite easy. There is a yellow button on the side which you hold down in order to send electricity to the metal part of the zapper. Be careful not to touch the metal part when you're holding the button down. With the button held down, touch the bug with the metal part of the zapper and you will hear a relatively loud "zap" and see a flash of blue light. Typically the bug will fall to the ground dead. However, my one complaint with this product is that there are some bugs which can survive one zap. In order to completely eliminate such bugs (large flies or ants) you must zap them again. I wish the product was slightly more powerful so that all bugs could be defeated with one zap. Overall I thought that this product did its job quite well and certainly was more effective than other methods such as a manual fly swatter.
It works great, just wish it were made sturdier.
July 16, 2016
When I got it the first thing you realize is the weakest point is between the black handle and the yellow frame for the top. After a couple months of robust use it snapped at exactly that point, my solution being tape it up with electrical tape, not so aggressively swing and let the now sagging head continue to connect.

The unit has a button you press to activate which for a time didn't seem to always be on when I expected it to leaving those mosquitos with the perfect escape. Make sure that green light is lit before you swing, don't just rely on your finger on the button.

Despite these quirks and weaknesses I still love it because it works like a charm. I've killed more mosquitos with it then I can remember. It's a bug zapper so it gets all kinds though I only tried it on flies which were stunned but not stuck to it for more current. If it's the size of a mosquito though it will stick for sure and fry those little buggers.

A word of warning for the curious, if you swing wide and contact someone like yourself it's a lot like sticking your finger in a socket.
Nice, I've had a grudge against flies and other insects
January 23, 2016
Unfortunately, I bought this product too hastily; it's getting too cold for them so there isn't many of them around now.
When I first got the zapper in the mail, there was still some flies around, and thank the lord almighty, I had batteries stored away. I put the batteries and it worked with excellent results. A couple of flies I tested the zapper with ended up popping from the electricity, and then I thought,
"That's where they get the name."
When summer comes around again, I'm going to make sure there's NO FLY ZONE.
PS I used the zapper on a stink bug with disastrous results; the odor was horrendous.

Great little workhorse but is as light as the bugs it zapps!
August 7, 2017
Very impressed with this little guy. Same model at our local HD store was $20 more! The charging time is pretty quick and it lasts as long as it states. No complaints here. Bug leftover's are an easy cleanup with the waste tray. Only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that it's VERY light. If you are going to install outside I would highly suggest you secure both top and bottom of unit otherwise your neighbors will have themselves a new bug zapper from being blown into their yard by a small wind. Personal experience on this one!
Keeping it plugged in all the time.
May 14, 2017
OK - heard ONE ZAP!Charged the battery when I received the Stinger. Hung it up and didn't notice it again until the next morning when I charged the battery again.Hung up the zapper INSIDE the house, but an hour later it was OFF.Moved the switch to LED light, light came on; moved switch to zapper, and zapper light came on again. It stayed on a short time - less than an hour, and it went off again.Maybe it needs to remain plugged in for it to function.UPDATE 8/27/2017: Keeping this plugged in all the time and it remains ON all the time. Every now and then we hear the SNAP as the moth or mosquito is fried. It is doing what it is supposed to do, thus the 4 stars (instead of just 2 stars).
It works without the octenol bait traps, too...
September 21, 2016
I've had one of these in the past and I really like it. It did a good job and lasted about four years, which I felt was fair, so I had no issues with picking up a second one. It's compact enough to set it on a tabletop, but I prefer to keep it on the ground under the table which is where our ankle-biters seem to congregate. It uses a black UV light to draw the mosquitoes to it, but you can also install an octenol bait trap in it. The little bait traps are designed specifically for this unit and last about a month, so you have to keep buying them (thanks K-Pods for converting us into a subscription model for all of our household goods!) I find it works decently without the $7 O-pod bait trap, so I use it without putting the Stinger Company's owners' kids through college, and it seems to work just fine without them. One thing that's kind of strange is in the product description - it says it both kills and repels mosquitoes - not quite sure how that works - it seems to me does either one or the other, but our ankles aren't getting eaten in the evenings, so killed or repelled? - I don't know which, but I'm happy.PS - Writing reviews has become an accidental hobby for me, and it always makes my day to know that people find my reviews helpful (and if not, why.) Also, if you have any questions, clarifications, or comments please feel free to leave a comment below. I usually respond pretty quickly and almost always within 24 hours.
but it required no effort on my part and it looked nice as it glowed at night
August 8, 2016
I had purchased a tall solar powered bug zapper from a mail order catalog and used it all through the summer of '15. It only zapped about one bug every three nights, but it required no effort on my part and it looked nice as it glowed at night. I purchased a set of two small and square solar bug zappers at a store in the spring of '16 - they never zapped a single bug ever but they require no effort and they look nice at night. I purchased this rechargeable zapper and I have to recharge it everyday for about 3 hours each day and it zaps bugs for about 3 hours at night. I then purchased several of this model. Each one zaps about 30 insects per night. I wanted to get rid of mosquitoes. About 60% of the bugs zapped by this device are gnats some moths some beetles ad some mosquitoes. I tested this device without the included mosquito lure and it got some mosquitos anyways then I tested it with the mosquito lure and the lure did increase the number of mosquitos caught but it only a slight increase. This device can be used without a lure. This device does work but maybe a plug in insect zapper would work better.
Effective for the price
May 24, 2016
My experience with this so far has been a positive one. Haven't used the included pack that attracts mosquitoes (waiting for it to get warmer at night), but as other reviewers have said, it's effective at what it does. Attracts and kills a ton of moths and other small insects. I can only imagine how more useful it will be when mosquito season begins! The only complaint I have about it is so far is that it doesn't seem strong enough to kill larger bugs and insects. I've emptied the bug tray a few times and had moths that were still alive fly out of the machine. For under $30 and rechargeable, it's still an effective enough product.
Good Indoor Zapper
June 26, 2015
I looked around at all the zappers on Amazon before choosing this one, and I am very satisfied. I am living in a very expensive area of the country and living in a pop up camper for the summer to save cash. I wanted something reasonably small to keep inside the camper to get any bugs that may fly in. The first night I used this it was zapping away and caught quite a lot of bugs. As the other reviews say, it must be used in the dark, like no other single light source. I usually turn it on when I climb in bed and let it run until the battery dies and I usually wake up with quite a few moths and flies in the little tray. The bulb is not crazy bright so it doesn't keep me up at night. I do use it plugged in sometimes if I want it to run all night and have no had an issue doing so even though the instructions say don't.My only complaints are that most of the bugs don't fall into the little tray and instead stick to the zapper so I do have to clean it fairly often, though I suppose you could leave them on the zapper, and it does seem to be a little weak as you will hear it zapping for quite a while for one bug, and sometimes you get that burning smell. Otherwise I think it's a good indoor zapper at a reasonable price without being overly bright and bulky.

Although the fix is pretty easy, the zapper only rates 3 stars since ...
May 28, 2017
This bug zapper has lots of power to zap bugs. It really smokes them. But after a day of playing with it, I started hearing a zapping noise inside the handle. Lots of them. I took the handle apart and found that it was arcing across the discharge resistor (the small painted cylinder with a wire coming out of each end). I painted the wires at each end with fingernail polish to insulate it, and no more internal zapping. I also painted the wires leading into the racket head, just in case. Although the fix is pretty easy, the zapper only rates 3 stars since it failed on the second day.
Works well, but not as sturdy as I'd like
December 12, 2016
The zapper was effective while it lasted, but it's not durable. I bought it in January 2015 and the wires began falling out a few months ago. The unit is shot now and I must replace it unlike the previous bug zapper that I had that lasted for 4+ years.

12/2016 Update:
After I posted my comments about the longevity of the Bug Zapper Swatter, Elucto's customer service department wrote to me and said that they take their customer's happiness seriously and offered to send me a replacement. Within several days, I received a replacement unit and it works perfectly. I can't speak for the longevity of this unit, but it's reassuring to know that Elucto felt so confident about its product that it stands behind it. That's a good sign!
Not as successful with it as I would like
November 21, 2016
I think I really don't know how to use it. I did successfully kill 1 fly this summer. I was hoping to kill all the bugs that swarm you when you are outside on a ranch, but the critters seem to be faster than this. The swatter also gets very hot. You need to be careful where you put it so that it doesn't accidentally turn on. I found our outdoor stationary bug zapper killed many more flying annoyances.
I forgot the sponge was supposed to be wet...
October 10, 2016
decent enough, but the battery door does not fit well, and will probably break its lil tab sooner than I would appreciate.
It works well on smaller insects, gnats and such will practically vaporize. Larger things, like spiders and houseflies needed multiple zaps to die. But the first zap usually paralyzes them for a bit, and if you find where they fall, you just let them ride the lightning!

Ever since I got the first lil sucker, I have been making random puns referencing The Green Mile. It is really a lot more fun to zap them, squishing bugs is gross, this is fast and cleaner.

Also, I do not advise touching it to zap yourself. I accidentally touched it too long and my arm felt funny for almost an hour. (heh)
It doesn't make a loud zapping noise like the Electrocuter
November 26, 2015
This was a decent purchase. It doesn't make a loud zapping noise like the Electrocuter, which I actually prefer because I like to know when it's 'on.' The face of the swatter is also slightly smaller, but we're still able to catch the gnats/fruit flies okay. It does feel cheaply made and the battery cover keeps coming loose. When the swatter comes in contact with a fruit fly, it doesn't always zap and the fruit flies often are able to escape right between the lines of the swatter. Ugh. But if you swing constantly, you'll eventually get them!

could be better, they run out of battery fast
August 6, 2017
these zappers are okay. could be better, they run out of battery fast, like only a couple hours, so i have to leave them plugged in most of the time. also the purple light could be stronger, i watch bugs fly by like it is not even on. But it works, just not great with the purple light for the litle bugs, the white light is nice and bright and zaps a lot of moths.
Amazon won't replace it. When it works it is excellent!
June 15, 2016
If you send it back soon enough they will replace it. I am on my third one now. Frankly, when it works it is just excellent. Zap, zap, zap. Canned air will clean it up just fine.Big Post Script! Quit working. Bought June 9, it is Aug. 24th now. Amazon won't replace it.Old review. I have used this for a week on my patio. It has rained like crazy here in central Tx and the mosquitoes are horrid. Yesterday I emptied the tray and there were hundreds and hundreds of dead winged critters. The only thing I don't like is cleaning it. It would be wonderful if one could take it apart and clean it with the hose!!!! In the debris there were a few moths, flies and mostly mosquitoes. No bees.
For what it is, it works okay. I ...
November 28, 2015
For what it is, it works okay. I went with a cordless zapper because I have a dog who likes to chew on things outside. I need a zapper because I live in a semi-rural area and there are a lot of bugs. When I would open the door to let the dogs in of a night, a plethora of bugs would fly into the house.I placed the zapper under the light and it helped. Unfortunately, the charge does not last for very long. Also, it is not very strong. Often I would open the bottom of the zapper to clean out the bugs. Several bugs would still be alive in the trap.
Jury is still out.
October 13, 2015
So far this works well. I've used it roughly a dozen times. If I have any trouble with this like others have expressed I will update my post. I have not tried to clean of the zapper wires yet. (The dead bugs really like to stick to it)Can not find a replacement charging cord. If something happens to your cord your out $30.
Delicate, not well made, poor battery life
August 8, 2015
This product is fragile, made of brittle light-weight plasic. The battery life per charge is very poor. You can not leave this unit on overnight, as the battery will completely discharge (seems to last 4 to 5 hours max). If you let it run completely down, it will greatly shorten it life expectancy of the battery. The so-called "lantern" function is a joke; 2 LEDs that may illuminate to about 1 meter out if you're in a deep dark cave. But even with ambient starlight, the LEDs offer almost no perceptible increase in the level of illumination. The ON/OFF switch is 3-position; BugZap mode, Off, and Lantern. The OFF position is fine, but I have to fiddle with the switch to get the BugZap mode to remain on, and likewise to get the Lantern mode to remain on. Not a high-quality product. Sorry to be negative.
Not as helpful as we originally though
March 31, 2015
The battery for this light is very short lived. It does work and will the little buggers but it's only good for about 3 hours. But then we don't usually sit out for more than 3 hours in the evening so it will work for us.After trying insect zapper for one evening and then using for about an hour the next night we decided to return it for a Flowtron 1/2 acre insect zapper. We already have a 1.5 acre Flowtron in the backyard that works great. It's just not as practical as we originally thought to use the battery operated model. The battery runs out very quickly needing to be recharged again. It would be nice to be able to leave it on all night to rid our front porch of a larger number of pesky bugs but that was just not an option with this zapper.

Kinda works for larger bugs
October 23, 2016
This works well to zap bugs as long as they are big enough to get between the wires. They are separated about 1/4" so smaller bugs can fly right through it without being zapped. I've also had to hit a fly 1-3 times to get it to die. I accidentally dropped it once and all the wires came out so I had to put it back together. It gets the job done eventually but it could be better.
Not the killing machine I was hoping for.
August 7, 2016
I was so excited to have this product. Lots of flies on the patio when we entertain. The zapping noise is so fufilling after the strike. But today I watched the fly drop so I zapped him again. He got up and flew away. Is this a training device or meant for killing. Disappointed. Wanted to rule my patio with an iron fist. Not train a fly army.
Mehhhh, it's just ok.

Mehhhh, it's just ok. We are having fun with it, who doesn't want to get back at that fly that insists on landing on your face at 1 am or the ones doing the fly-by at mach 10 around your glasses or ears? However, this thing basically only stuns them and we end up torturing them. I bought it based on a friend who said "you can't live without one of these things" and I bought this particular model based on the other reviews. I don't know what the others are killing, I'm in the northeast, and these are average house flys. Give them a good zap and they do go down for sure but like all northerners they just shake it off and get back up and fly again. Takes a good 4 to 5 zaps to take them down for good. Also, you may be thinking I got a bum swatter - nope, bought one for my dad too at the same time - same results. It should probably get one star but I gave it two for the sicko entertainment value.
Can't swat at furniture or anything hard.
November 7, 2015
Sent this back. Practically it doesn't work unless the flys run into it or your good with hitting them out of the air. The hard plastic you don't want to hit against the furniture and you CERTAINLY don't want to hit it against your body, because this zaps the heck out of you. Not something you want around with boys. Might work if you are into BDSM...lol But it was not going to work for me and fly swatting. Took a hit of over $6 to send back so that sucked, but one less useless thing around the house. It was made well, worked when we actually climbed on the ceiling and put the face on the fly... but not functional really.
Not that great.

The reviews I read didn't state that you literally have to smash the fly against this in order to zap it. You cannot simply wave it around in the air and kill or stun the flies. And since the frame is hard plastic I'm very hesitant to strike it against walls and furniture when I'm chasing a fly down.

Stinks. Literally, smells like burning plastic.
September 10, 2017
I really haven't gotten to use this that much as the product emits a horribly strong burning plastic smell. Was making me sick. I'll set it out by itself for awhile and see if the smell burns off. But honestly, right now, it is unusable.

Does not work as well as a plug in zapper. Ok for the price.
wished it lasted longer
May 23, 2016
Works OK while it lasted. Some Bugs are eventually drawn to it and zapped while others ignored it completely at night. Moths seem to rush at it while mosquitoes ignored it. Zapper lasted 3 months then the purple light got really dim then the unit began smoking. After that unit never worked again. Bulb looks OK but the circuits inside it may be fried.
Good look - poor results

I bought this to deal with the flying insects that keep coming inside our house. We have had an unusually bad problem with flying insects coming in the house this year so I chose this as a possible solution to the problem. It seems that neither the scent cartridge or the light is good enough to attract the insects because they seem to completely ignore this thing. Since I bought it I have zapped exactly 2 flying insects, the rest have been terminated by using the good old fashion fly swatter. I would guess that this thing would have better success outside where the insect population is so astonomical that it would be statistically impossible for this thing to not zap a lot of insects. I can say that I love the way it looks and its overall design.
It will kill moths and basically nothing else
July 24, 2015
I bought the bug zapper in order to try to clear out bugs from a section near my house where my garbage and recycling bins sit. If the bins got too full and the lid popped up bugs would gather around them. There isn't a power outlet near the area so a rechargable zapper seemed great. It basically kills moths like crazy and nothing else, and the moths weren't the concern. I've put it out during the day and overnight in both the lantern mode and black light mode. All it ever attracted were moths. After it became apparent this wasn't doing the job I put fly paper up where I had placed this, and that proved infinitely more effective. If you want to kill moths, go with this, but if need to get rid of other insects you're better off with flypaper.
Disappointed
August 10, 2014
I have an awful mosquito problem and so far, I haven't been able to tell any difference when I put the Zapper out. I water my plants during the day. I have turned on the zapper and hung it on a shepherd's hook at one corner of the patio about 5 minutes prior to going out to water. I still get bites and I didn't notice any mosquitoes being zapped. I checked the drawer as well and didn't see any bugs. I was very excited to try this, so I am disappointed. I'm not giving up, though. I will keep trying.

Stopped working after only a few months
July 22, 2017
We loved this zapper when we bought it last June. We zapped flies all summer, then removed the batteries and put it away for the winter. When we took it out in the spring and put in fresh batteries, there was power when we pressed the button (the light came on). But there was no power to the screen. Useless! To replace it, we purchased The Executioner from Amazon. The surface area of the racquet face appears to be 1/3 larger than the Elucto, and the ZAP! is more powerful. I just hope it will still work a year from now.
Great idea, *super* cheap quality build
March 25, 2017
Zaps bugs as advertised but cheap plastic construction is falling apart already. This thing is very delicate, be careful not to swat too hard or the head will snap off the handle. The wires fell off the battery connection so I had to re-solder them to fix it.Great idea, cheap quality build.Edit: Ok, *super* cheap quality build. Actually a piece of crap. Worth maybe $5. with the understanding that it's gonna fall apart pretty quickly. Just flooding the waste stream with more cheap, plastic crap.
Poor design and died after 5 days
July 30, 2016
Bottom line: lasted 5 days of use and stopped.

I've used similar products a few years ago when I lived in Europe. These are very popular when you want your windows open for temperature purposes. At my new office here in America, I wanted to bring the same fun fly-death-bringing tool back - but it only worked for a week. It stopped working on day five in my hand. It just stopped working after one mid-air (didn't even hit anything) swing. (Yes, batteries are good). I as also frustrated that the design was flimsy. it only killed larger flies (they have to touch two metal wires), and when we killed a fly, it often buzzed around for another 1-2 mins before dying. That's just cruel. Especially when they buzz around into your co-workers food stash drawer. Gross.
Piece of crap
July 29, 2016
My husband killed literally 10 mosquitos with this thing and it died completely on us. Useful when it worked, but really a piece of crap and waste of money - averaged almost $2 per mosquito killed. Now the LED light comes on as if it works, but kills nothing and mosquitoes/large flies fly right between the gaps.
Great while it lasted

My bug zapper worked like a gem. I waved it at mosquitoes and they were obliterated. But after three days it stopped working. The problem is I had already thrown out the box and paperwork. Oh well.

Piece of crap!!

Piece of crap!!! Doesn't kill anything! In fact, flies and mosquitos landed on top of it and nothing happened! All day in my backyard, while I was being bitten by bugs, not a single one appeared in the drawer dead!

It didn't zap anything
Worthless
August 26, 2017
Completely useless. If there is any form if illumination order than it, it utterly fails to attract insects. If you aren't using it in the dark, you might as well not be using it. I literally placed it RIGHT NEXT to a couple flies, and they flew away without a second look. About the only thing on this that works, is the lantern function; and a dollar store flashlight does better than even that. The only reason it's one star, is because I can't go lower.

Stopped working and because it wasn't a high priority I missed the return window by five days. There are some things that should not be purchased online, or at least with Amazon. The only reason I gave it one star is because it's required, really didn't deserve it.
Great Usage Until It Turned Into A Smokestick!
June 15, 2017
Worked great for 1 season (~12 times), on the second use of the second season it ran out of battery... I turned it off and put it on the charger. Apparently this caused an issue as now whenever I turn on the UV bulb it just smokes.
It won't quit sparking rapidly! Have cleaned it and ...

Aggravating! 2nd one we bought and quit working the same year.. won't buy another one and wouldn't suggest you waste you money with it either

User Overview
  • Kaz vs Lasko

Wow... With the Kaz height at 1292.5 inches, width at 324 inches and length of 423.2 inches, the Lasko with 920.5"X 283.1"X 999.2"... Hope they're unassembled, but still, way too big for my house. I'm still thinking about getting one for the barn, if i can find the space to put it.
