Excellent Zapper with just one strike!
October 6, 2014
No need to worry about trying to use a fly swatter when you can zap them with one strike. Other zappers are not as strong where they can kill a bug with one strike. I was using my sisters zapper and you literally need to keep zapping bug for about 4 or 5 times till they are dead. When using the Vex Zapper all you need is one zap..... THATS IT!!!Love the flash light attached to it and the fact that you have the option to light up the actual racket and see bugs to zap. Also doesn't use batteries, just plug in to charge and your ready to go. Can't think of one negative feed back on the Electric Zapper so you won't be disappointed if you decide to purchase the Vex Zapper.I originally purchased the Vex Electric Bug Zapper to use in our home, my husband was so impressed he took it to our place of business and has got rid of any fly in our shop. Very hard to trap them with the old sticky tape hanging on the ceiling but not anymore. Only problem is now I need to purchase an additional one for the home, that's what happens when you find a good product that works well.
This isn't a toy!

Very nice product. I had a swatter like this that I purchased at Walgreens before this one. This is the only thing I can compare this unit too and the vex zapper is built much heavier. The grip fits my hand well. I actually killed a wasp the first time I used it, it flew into the mesh and I zapped it quickly. My only gripe besides the colors are the lack of easily read labels. With two lights and 3 buttons, I am sure the average user might get confused. Perhaps if the unit was gray plastic with black accents or something of that nature it would be a bit easier to read. The green and white colors seem cheap to me. The LED flashlight is very bright as is the light that shines on the business end. The head appears to be very solid. The unscrewing of the unit into it's two pieces is very easy and the ability to recharge instead of buy new batteries every other week is a welcome feature. Overall, I feel this product is well made and does exactly what it is advertised to do but could stand for a color change and perhaps a little more apparent engraving on the sides for delineation of what button performs what function and so forth. Also, would like to know where the company website is now so that I could take advantage of the warranty on this product as it apparently comes with a lifetime guarantee! Spectacular if true...
Better design, rechargeable, better battery power, more functional, longer lasting so far works great

Never kill bugs yourself again. Hold this up to a bug or spider. (Monster size hairy) at 2AM (true story). While i try to love all living things there are exceptions. This racket works fast inside or out (screened lanai). Child safety switchUsed many cheaper versions, smaller batteries . Cost more in the long run. All broke and would not kill a wasp or anythingThis is rechargeable plugin Sides are heavier, cheap ones crackOnly drawback is thick sides protect what is under racket. Use a few times gets easier. Take some getting used to charging, power on, blue.light shows, unit ready to go.
Best Zap Racket I've ever bought
May 25, 2014
I bought this product and works perfectly, it's the best zap racket for mosquitoes and other small bugs ...- Very effective killing mosquitoes- It's easy to recharge with no adapter needed, you plug it directly to the outlet as it's rated 100-240v- Includes a nice and useful flash lightNo doubt that it's the highest quality zapper on the market.
...would give 10 stars if possible!

PROS: The VEX Electric Bug Zapper really, truly works! It does everything it claims to in the description AND it's fun to use. The VEX has given my husband a new alter ego: Mosquito Ninja! He loves the sparking and zapping sound that accompany every kill! (Yes, my 55-year-old husband is a twisted little boy at heart.) As for myself, living in Florida means I get eaten alive by mosquitoes, so I am ecstatic to have discovered this low-cost gem on Amazon. The VEX racket was not only inexpensive to buy, but it has rechargeable batteries (very quick recharge, too!), which saves us a ton of money on new D-cell alkaline batteries every week as our old racket required. As if all this isn't enough, the VEX Bug Zapper comes with a LIFETIME WARRANTY, if you can believe that. I give the VEX Racket 5 stars ONLY because 10 stars are not available.CONS: None. How could there be with a lifetime warranty (see PROS, above)?
Hours of Entertainment - But Beware Bugs Will Wait Until You Don't Have It!

Hours of entertainment - and yes they don't "just die" they disintegrate into a zillion pieces. I do worry now to get really jumped if I leave my back porch without it. I am sure there is a bug contract of the highest order out on me.

This thing is a little workhorse and does a fantastic job. There are a lot of flies where I live in the warm months. Everyone here battles the fly problem. With this unit I've finally found the solution to combat the problem. My house is now free of those nasty flying creatures! They fly low to the ground so I keep this just inside my doorway where they come in. The bottom tray captures the flies as they fall from the lights - just vacuum it out and there is no mess to clean up.
This product is working great for me. But I didn't get sent a dud.
September 2, 2015
I bought this ignoring the 1 star reviews. This has the best reviews just that some are sent out as duds. So I took a chance and I am so happy with it. I also had the flowtron 1/2 acre and this has killed 10X more mosquitoes then the flowtron. I must have killed 25 mosquitoes over the weekend. It hasn't completely stopped the problem I still get a handful in the living room but this has made a significant dent. I notice its most effective at night with no other lights on. I only get 1 or none during the day when I look at it when I get home. But this thing is a siren call at night and when it is the only light source. I may plan to order another 1 or 2.

If you like your windows open for fresh air but no screens to keep unwanted flying guests out, this item will help greatly. I use this for my office at work. It zaps both flies and moths on contact, keeping the office clear of flying distractions while I work. Highly recommended!
Worked within the first hour..
August 11, 2015
I bought this mostly for the skeeters, and after reading some reviews I was a bit skeptical thinking it wouldn't attract them. But I have to give this 5 stars because within an hour it already caught 2 mosquitos, a few knats & moths. The electro "pop" sound kinda freaks me out a bit, I REALLY Love all Creatures even the creepy crawly ones.. and Honestly don't like using this..but my Home must be clear of them, my Animals and I cannot continue getting bit. It is kinda bright and I'd advise not really looking directly at it for too long (although it says it is harmless to us and pets).. I'd rather just pay it no mind till I have to tend to it. At first I had it facing the living room..front faced..but decided to just turn it toward the wall..and now we don't have to see it direct on whilst in the living room. But I digg the light! At night It brings out all the colors of my neon stuff ! I'd never use any of these type products outdoors (especially this one as it is NOT AN OUTDOOR unit).. I just want the critters out of MY House..outdoors is THEIR house & I'd feel awfully guilty! I'm a happy and confident camper today as I really think this will keep my house clear of the biters. Thank you I would def recommend this product.

Satisfying zapping sound!
September 24, 2015
My husband has an issue with flies! This is a powerful zapper that you can really hear when it makes contact with the fly. The only problem is if there is a fly on a flat surface, like a table, you have to be careful not to swat it to hard or it can crack. It works really well if you swat while they are in the air.
It should be illegal to have this much fun!
September 5, 2015
The best thing I can say about this product -- and it should be applicable for all products -- is that it works. Mosquitoes (big and small) and fruit flies are no longer a pest, but a welcome guest in my house, because I enjoy zapping the bejesus out of them. There are two main advantages to this product:1) Quickly and efficiently and cleanly(!) eliminates flying pests whilst in the air or on the wall. You'll never want to squash them with a newspaper or magazine again.2) No more climbing around chairs or obstacles hoping for that perfect kill. And even if you kill them, there's usually a mess on the wall, which needs cleaning. This zapper eliminates that problem, so there's comfort and ease of use.The supposed blue light mosquito attractor which comes with the product doesn't seem to make much of a difference. I admittedly haven't tested it extensively, but I have so far killed dozens of mosquitoes since receiving this a few days ago, and I didn't notice them leaving their spot on the wall and flying toward me when the blue light was switched on. It didn't matter, however, because I just zapped them all to oblivion anyway. As for the fruit flies: there was a mini-colony in my kitchen just a few days ago. Now, there's nothing. If anything, this is a guilty pleasure. I no longer curse the heavens every time I see a mosquito buzzing around me. I welcome it instead with my joyous arm, holding my Vex Zapper with a sparkle in my eyes.I took a star off, because this would be even better if it were effective also passively -- i.e. leaving it on during the night, so that mosquitoes/insects are drawn to it by themselves, being zapped without you having to actively pursue them. So for those looking to just place it somewhere and go to sleep, hoping it will work its magic on its own: look elsewhere. This is a lovely little device for the active pursuer of flying house pests. It would be perfect if it also alternated as a passive attractor and annihilator while you're asleep. So make sure everything is dead prior to going to bed.The good news is that this thing kills them fast -- once you locate them, of course. The problem is mosquitoes are notoriously good at keeping a low profile during the day, and sometimes can come out one after the other once you switch the light off, having sworn your room was mosquito free. So that's the downside. In a few words: this is awesomely fun for bug hunting. Practically useless as a passive attractor and neutralizer. But then again, most of the fun is in the hunt itself; and believe me when I say it: it's FUN! Yes, even at 4 in the morning when a wretched mosquito just woke you up. Because you'll wake up with a smile on your face, knowing something electrifying is in store for our uninvited little friend...
Powerful with some unnecessary extras
August 28, 2015
This is the most powerful bug zapper racket I've ever owned or seen. Admittedly, the last time I used one of these was in the late 90s or early 2000s when only one model existed that cost something like $50 and sold in catalogues like Sky Mall. Those old, cheaply-built yellow rackets are child's play compared to this guy. It's the difference between a static shock from walking on shaggy carpet in wool socks and a law-enforcement grade taser. I feel disturbingly powerful when using this racket, and I love it.If I remember correctly, those older models' racket heads utilized a ladder-like construction of single electrified wire strands that ran parallel from top to bottom allowing smaller pests, like mosquitos, to pass right through your swat with impunity. Preventing those disappointing results of the past, this zapper employs a multi-tiered mesh design of electrified material that seems to zap the smallest of flying biters to a deadly end with ease .I'm not convinced that the blue-ish LED light near the racket's head does anything to attract mosquitos like advertised (the science behind their light-attractant claim is slim at best), but whatever--the zap still does the job. And I guess the additional butt-end flashlight thing is novel too, although part of me wishes they'd skipped the lights at both ends and just lowered the price. I already own flashlights and don't think I need an extra one randomly attached to my bug zapper racket.Next time, Vex should skip the light gimmick and include a battery meter instead. I would like to know how much zapping time is left before the racket needs to retire for a few hours of charging. Still, this racket is largely worth the price for the incredible zapping power it bestows in a rechargeable, satisfactorily built unit. I love not having to replace batteries every time my racket starts to feel as though it's losing its deadliness. Just plug in and bide your time until the killing can recommence. With this racket, you too will find yourself disturbingly enjoying the act of eviscerating household pests with a simple swat and the satisfying zap that ensues. Give the Vex a try if willing to fork over a little more cash for the rechargeable battery and power this model offers (on top of a few superfluous features to boot).
Just got this due to a horrible spider problem (gigantic hobo spiders)
September 12, 2014
Just got this due to a horrible spider problem (gigantic hobo spiders). Got it tonight and as soon as it got dark one of those suckers came out. Hubby grabbed the zapper and fried that sucker to a crisp. He said it literally glowed when he zapped & it was a BIG one. I guess it works! Now he is out on the balcony trying for mosquitoes. I hear it snapping from my office. I just wish there was some sort of extender for it because I don't want to get close enough to these monster spiders to do it!
Mostly happy
August 10, 2014
Pretty cool little device. When I got it I charged it right away. Turned on the little blue light it went on then off then never on again. Was going to return it but I couldn't via USPS, HAD to be UPS. Even though Amazon would send UPS here, I had no box to put it in (it came with several things in a much larger box). Plus it wouldn't be a replace, just a refund. Flashlight works fine and I was able to check out the zapper and it worked fine . I decided the important parts worked so I'll keep it.Updated: The rest of the zapper stopped working. Not paying this much for just a flashlight. Think I'll try another one. GREAT, the price went up $6... Still going to try it again but this is the last.
Nice features, and incredible guarantee
February 27, 2014
It's solid enough that you could kill flies just by swinging this at them. The buttons are cheap, and the plug fits loosely in the socket (you'll need a vertical socket to charge it). The flash light component of this is nice for the off season as it's recommended to be charged every 3 months of non-use to keep the batteries from getting damaged. *edit: finally got to use this on a large hornet. It knocked it to the floor (I didn't swing it), where it wriggled, and was easily finished off (it turned red in parts and smoked). I wish I didn't have to get so close with it, but other than that I love it!

This one works fine, but the buttons throw us off a lot
December 8, 2014
We have used other brands of bug zappers. This one works fine, but the buttons throw us off a lot. There is a charging position, and an on and off position. And then once that is on you can press the other button to make it zap. So most of the time it is off when we push the button the first time and so miss the darned fly. When we remember to have the buttons positioned properly it works great.
Big racket with too many buttons and too many features kills bugs
November 29, 2014
I was enamored by the praise and reviews this product received but I find it less convenient than the Charcoal Champion http://www.amazon.com//dp/B00008GS96/ which is lighter and uncomplicated for indoor use zapping stuff like spiders, moths and mosquitos.Comparatively the Vex is huge (like a kid's tennis racket) and altogether feels like a product better suited to outside use. It's complicated by a 3-stage switch on the handle (on/off/flashlight), a trigger button and nightlight switch on the head. The nightlight is intended to attract bugs but isn't strong enough to light the ground. The flashlight is strong enough to light the ground but points in the opposite direction of the zapper (backward?).The handle, which is 1.5 inches in diameter feels like I'm holding a baseball bat. The racket is rechargeable which is great but first you have to unscrew the handle and plug it into an outlet - which requires clearance in all directions. This might be a great zapper for some but I just prefer something smaller and simpler.
Too Big, Flashlight Stupid, Switch-Buttons Annoying
June 30, 2014
This item is half decent with some major flaws. The first problem is that it's just too big. It's the size of a bad mitten racket, I'd prefer something less than half the total mass and volume.Second, the built in extra flashlight is totally a bad idea because it makes it so the user interface is overly complicated. The slider switch to turn the flashlight on and off is the same slider that turns the killer on and off. The very poorly designed slider's center position is "off", so we're constantly fiddling with how to get it into just the right position so it's not on kill or flashlight. Bad design. We've only had it for a week and it definitely kills mosquitoes and smaller bugs. It killed a small moth. The noise is scary, it flashes like a zapper. Overall pretty happy with the functionality but would prefer something smaller with rubberized edges to keep from damaging things when swinging it indoors.
To Infiniti & Beyond
June 20, 2014
I feel like I'm zapping insects with Buzz Lightyear's tennis racket. It works but the zap is weak. My cheap zapper worked better. It worked on smaller insects or larger ones sometimes. Twice I had flies walk right across the net while I was zapping them. It looks well made but I think I'll stick with battery powered ones for now.

It's Like Star Wars for Flies, Except for an Annoying Mechanical Problem
January 23, 2016
There's something satisfying about vaporizing portions of house flies in a tiny fireball with a sharp crack. The Vex Zapper provides that experience, but we had ours less than a week, with only moderate usage, before the (very tight) battery switch broke off entirely. I can still turn the power on and off using a small steel rod from my toolbox to push on the broken switch mechanism, but I don't recommend that approach for non-technical folks, nor those without high voltage experience. Except for the mechanical quality problem it would get 5 stars from us. I haven't yet been in touch with the vendor, so I can only comment on our general experience so far. To recap, vaporizing flies in mid-air is hard to beat for casual entertainment value, but mechanical quality ultimately dictates the experience.
Battery already dead
August 26, 2015
Bought this back in March. At first it was great, but saw a noticeable decrease in battery life after a couple of months worth sporadic use. Now 5 months later, the rechargeable battery only lasts about 3 minutes on a full overnight charge when the bugs in VA are at their worst and I need this the swatter the most. Money wasted, as there's no ability to use other power sources.
Not bad. Not great.
January 27, 2015
Fun and effective, but feels very cheap. I'd willingly pay more for a more solid, reliable feel.Update: After just a short while with this device, I've come to notice that it doesn't hold a charge for longer than a couple of days, despite being turned off. Since the instructions indicated that the charge unit should not be plugged in for extended periods of time, this item is therefore relegated to more of a toy/novelty than something practical for spontaneous pest control.

The battery is crap. It works for about a minute then needs to be recharged. If I could rig up a phone charger and a power cord it would be great. Mosquitos have been really bad this year and this would be great if the battery was any good. Also, if you charge it today and dont use it, it will be dead tomorrow.

The unit I received was defective and was tripping the Ground fault breaker in my home.I plugged it into a non protected outlet and I found It came on in some odd low power state with the power switch on the unit turned off. With the switch on it worked normally but to turn it off I had to unplug it.It didn't kill any flies the first time I turned it on. I had the fly from hell in my home that was dive bombing me in my living room watching TV.I really wanted that sucker dead and was elated when I found a fly that looked dead on the catch pan under the unit.I removed the pan and was going to dump it in the trash when it flipped over and took to the air. The damn thing was only stunned and had escaped death and was looking for revenge. He buzzed past my ears twice and that was the last straw. It was him or me I mumbled as I rolled the Newspaper and went on the hunt. with the house lights off he landed on the TV screen and I quickly moved in for the kill swat and splattered him all over the screen. I was over joyed and shouted "I got you sucker, the old fashion way" The wife came out and wanted to know why I was yelling.I tried to explained the attack I experienced from the fly and my hunt and kill of it but she just shook her head and walked way saying I was such a child and told me to clean up the mess on the TV screen.I returned the defective zapper for a refund and decided to just get a refund instead of replacement as I was not impressed by it at all.

I wish it had worked for me
June 25, 2015
I'm not sure why it didn't work for me since it has such awesome reviews. May be i ended up getting defective product, but in any case it was irritating running after bugs to catch and trying to zap them, but getting no results. Once i was actually able to corner a bug between this racket and wall (no escape way for poor bug), and pressed racket hard on bug. As soon as i lifted the racket, bug flew off!! I finally ended up returning the product. I wish it had worked for me.
When it works, it's great -- but breaks easily and the company can't be contacted.
November 10, 2014
I'm lowering my rating to one star, because: - Two of these have broken so far; they're very fragile, and in both cases something cracked inside as I was unplugging from the wall, rendering the unit inoperable. - The brochure that comes with it says "Vex offers a lifetime guarantee to our zappers. You break it, we replace it - no questions asked!", but the website ([...]) has nothing on it but "Index of / cgi-bin". I've searched around and haven't been able to find contact info anywhere. Other people seem to be finding it impossible to get in touch with the company. In short, it's great when it works but it'll break on you, and the company doesn't seem to want to be contacted for replacement. Here's my original review:---This thing is fantastic! So far I've zapped a whole bunch of flies and yellow jackets that had gotten into my house. My wife was impressed, though it doesn't say much about me except that I know how to find good products. The yellow jackets in particular were satisfying, since without this tool they can be tricky to get. Note that to get a large bug like a yellow jacket it requires several shocks; so far that's been easy for me to do: I just trap the thing under one side of the racket. Flies usually go down on the first shock. Just be prepared for the <crack> sound!
