July 21, 2017
I love this except I lost the floater on the first washing. Bought the floater and sealer on amazon and haven't lost it since. Can make a beef stew in 15 minutes. Bought one for my daughter for her birthday because I think this is a great addition to a busy persons schedule that still wants to cook at home.
Pure Magic!
May 18, 2017
I love kitchen gadgets in general but this one is simply a pure thing of joy. It has really helped me develop a quick and simple means of having yummy steamed veggies. Toss them in, hit the button and in minutes... Magic!Looking forward to learning more recipes focused on health but for now, my simple stuff is really making me love this machine more every day. 100% satisfied
Fast & Easy Meals

Very versatile! Bought for my adult son (at his request) for quick and easy meals. He is very happy with it, loves to cook using it, and says clean-up is a breeze!

My husband is the cook in our family. I bought this for him one Christmas. I wasn't sure if he liked it but I've been getting good meals ever since.
Great Pressure Cooker!
October 25, 2015
This is the most used appliance in our home. It's easy and quick to make meals. I can make breakfast, lunch and dinner in this Pressure cooker. I add my ingredients and turn the lid and walk away and in a little bit its done! I love it! I'm giving this to my newly married daughter for Christmas!
Great to Have.
August 14, 2015
Had watched infomercials and read online about pressure cooker, but couldn't decide. Then just did it! So glad I did. A very versatile cooker. Ordered mine from Amazon along with the information/recipe book as too many folks had complained that the books that came with the cooker itself left much to be desired. So glad I did. Still learning to cook many different items and recipes with the pressure cooker.

Summer time fun

It's a Whole New World!
August 21, 2015
I've been using my 8-quart pressure cooker for about two years now. I waited to post a review until I had some experience with it.Hands down, this is the BEST addition to my kitchen in 39 years of cooking. Not only does it cook food faster, it cooks it better. Foods are more flavorful, roasts are more tender. You can even cook them from frozen. It's not the best way, but in a pinch, it will do.I have been using it for making bone broth, and it is amazing. When I'm done cooking it (in one hour, not twelve), the bones crumble. You could feed them to a dog. And the broths are amazingly flavorful. Here are a few things I've learned:1. If your pot stops steaming, or the steam slows way down, turn off the heat, vent off and investigate. So far paying attention to this has saved me from burning several dishes because I did not add in enough liquid for the amount of time I needed to cook, and once unnecessarily, but still worth investigating. This CAN mean that the vents are blocked, and pressure is building. Even though there is a safety valve, using it is still dangerous, and always a cleaning disaster. This has never happened to me, but it's happened to others which you can read about in the unsatisfied customer reviews.2. If you are cooking something for a long time, use the basket. This will raise your food just a wee bit off the bottom of the pan, and prevent burning and sticking.3. When removing the lid, tip it away from you, and make sure your face isn't over the pot.4. When using a ceramic-top stove, bring it to temp on high, but then reduce the temperature to the lowest temp that will continue the pot steaming steadily. On my stove that means starting it at ten, but turning it down to between 5 and 6. This will help preserve the liquid in your pot and prevent burning, particularly if you are making a soup or cooking dry beans or pasta (in soup).I've been cooking for 39 years, since I was a small child. Growing up, we never had a pressure cooker, and I had some vague notion that they were dangerous. And it's true. Respect your pressure cooker. Pay attention to it if it stops talking. Don't try to open it until the little metal valve drops. Always check the holes in the lid before use to make sure they are clear. Replace your gasket and plug if they look worn, and every couple of years whether they need it or not.Other complaints I've seen are that it is very difficult to open and close. That is true. Especially when I was first using it. I was also challenged by lining it up just correctly. There is an arrow on the lid that is probably supposed to direct me to line it up with something, but I have no idea what. I've looked all over the outside, and I can't find anything. I've developed the knack, and the learning curve was longer than I care to admit. There were also a couple of times where I could not get it to close. I just had to completely take off the lid and start over. I think it had something to do with the lock valve and after a couple of tries, it just went on like it always does.Putting on the lid has also gotten easier with age, and I have no idea if it's because it was just "tighter" when it was new, and has eased, or if I've just figured it out. Put a little oil on the gasket once it a while. It helps. That's about it. If you're hesitant, I'd encourage you to give it a go. Not only is cooking faster and easier, it's also tastier!
I remember my first microwave in the 80's -I was amazed and hooked on fast
January 17, 2015
My mom had a pressure cooker when I was a kid, it must have been one of those really dangerous ones because, we were never allowed to get near it. Even when I took over cooking dinners from age 12-17, my mom would choose the dinner and I would cook it, I never cooked with a pressure cooker.Well, I remember my first microwave in the 80's -I was amazed and hooked on fast, easy cooking. I loved microwave cooking, how quickly everything gets done -and if you don't over cook, how tasteful it was too. Then I discovered slow-cooking, crock pot cooking and over the years have found it so easy to toss the ingredients in, in the morning, and have a delicious stew by the evening.Well, I decided to go on a long hike and I wanted to bring some dehydrated chicken broth, beef broth, chicken, beef, spaghetti sauce with me. One of the people I am traveling with is allergic to tree nuts and to both palm and coconut oils. So, she/we cannot eat about 80% of prepackaged foods. So, I needed to make my own broth, chicken, spaghetti sauce , beef, etc.On a dehydrating website, I read that nothing tastes as good as pressure cooked chicken. So, I thought, it can't hurt, I might as well give it a try. I did, and I have never had such soft and tasty and juicy broth and chicken as I did that day. So, now I am pressure cooking something or other almost every day and having fun dehydrating it all.I gave this a 5-star because I now think pressure cooking is the best way too cook meats and with all the relief valves you can be sure that the pot is at the right temeratur
Energy efficient cooker with a simple new pressure system
August 10, 2013
We were looking for a new generation pressure cooker to replace a Presto cooker we have had for 35 years. But after reading reviews, watching videos, and seriously considering other brands and pressure systems, we settled on this particular 8 quart Presto model 01370. Unlike other brand models in this class, this has a very simple pressure system. The pressure regulator clips into place and has two positions - pressure, and system release. The great advantage of this one over the others is that you can easily check the pressure tube and clean it of any obstruction. The pressure regulator also does not have any spring loaded valves in it like the European models. What we like about this cooker:- Easy to use pressure regulator. You stick it on in any position and then rotate it either direction until it drops into place pointing at the pressure position. It is easy to remove and clean.- The pressure button does not visibly pop up above the handle like some other brands we researched, but you can easily tell it's up to full pressure when a hiss of steam starts coming from the regulator. Then you know it's time to turn the heat down. - The pressure regulator releases a small hiss of steam instead of making a chugga chugga noise, and is very quiet. When you're ready to bring it back down from pressure you just turn the pressure regulator to the release position and it lets off a steady stream of steam out the top. It takes under two minutes for the pressure to come back down.- With this design cooker you can use the pressure release on the cooker or you can put the whole thing in the sink and run cold water over it to bring the pressure down rapidly.- It has a clad bottom that disperses heat evenly so it takes very little heat to keep the pressure up. My wife noted that she can turn the heat much lower than she could with her old Presto cooker which would stop rocking if you turned it too low.- Cooks food in much less time at much lower heat so it saves energy and doesn't heat your kitchen up- The steamer basket worked great for steaming vegetables. Even large chunks cooked in ten minutes.- You don't have to use as much water as the book says. It uses less water because you can turn the heat way down so the steam comes out as a wisp. My wife made Dahl (split peas) in this cooker using less water and it didn't stick or burn and came out with the consistency of refried beans.- Safety - when the pressure button is up, you can't accidentally open the lid. It also has the rubber plug that will pop out to keep it from exploding if it overheats. The pressure regulator has a clip that keeps it from falling out if the pot is bumped.- Solid Handles. What really turned us off on another brand cooker was several reviews that said the handles cracked or broke off. This was totally unacceptable to us. The handles never cracked on our 35 year old Presto cooker and we didn't read any reviews on this new model that said the handles cracked.- The lid is very easy to open and close because it has a handle on both sides so you can use both hands to close it. My skinny little wife says she can close it with one hand.- The 8 quart size is great for us because it's not too big and yet has room to cook a whole 6 lb. baking hen in it lying across the bottom. Since you can't fill a pressure cooker all the way up, this one has marks stamped into the side that show you the maximum height of your food.- The height to width ratio is just right. Some of the other brand cookers we looked at seemed too tall and too narrow at the bottom.- It's not very heavy to lift and easy to wash.- Replacement parts are reasonably priced and readily available from multiple sources for this cooker. You can get a cover seal and plug on Amazon for under $10 (Presto Part #09980.) The Presto seal lasted for years on our old cooker. We probably only had to replace it twice in 35 years.Cons:The only con we have is that it only comes with a small V-shaped trivet to set the steaming basket on. It works fine with the steaming basket but you can't set a chicken on it. My wife found that a 9 inch round stainless steel cooling rack fits perfectly in the bottom of this cooker to set the bird on.
It's the bomb; for cooking that is.
May 21, 2013
I also bought a pressure cooker cook book at the same time. What I found is a cooking method for the rest of us. If you like sauces and gravy with your meat, this produces the sauce and the meat at the same time, and very quickly; with the sauce and meat flavor infused throughout. The first thing we cooked was a whole chicken in a rosemary and lemon sauce, and it came out perfectly. It is now one of my wife's favorites, mostly because I prepare it. I am using that recipe as a benchmark for calibrating cooking times. I did fuss too much with the temperature the first time, but have settled down since. The second time I cooked the chicken I did it on a higher output burner, and it cooked way too fast. In the next couple days, I am going to do it a third time, hopefully calibrated properly to the burner I will use for all further PC meals. After that, I will get more creative. I have been collecting conventional recipes that I think will translate well to PC cooking.
Does the job, seems safe; good price. What else is there?

A pressure cooker is always a pain to use. Big bulky contraption. Plus, you've always got a little fear going along with the pressure apparatus. Clean-up means attention to openings that release steam. And clean-up always means attention to all the food scrunge and remnants that go with the cooking process. You don't really a pressure cooker to a dishwasher, either, even though the contraption might be okay in there. So, you're not going to eliminate any of that, even with THE most expensive model, those aspects are a give. You can get the bells and whistles, but why bother unless you use your pressure cooker every single day? This one is big enough for whole chickens plus some veggies. It has everything you need. I got it for cutting cooking time on foods such as dried beans, since we've now learned that the FDA won't ban carcinogenic BPAs from canned food, including canned chili beans or white beans. I've tried my Presto on chickens, beans, and other things. It works great, but I will have to fiddle around with the timings a bit. My dried beans were old and dried and they probably required a bit more time than the recipe book said they would. Then, I didn't hear the timer go off and got carried away on a business call. The beans ended up cooking for twice the required time. Even so, the water didn't cook out and the unit didn't "do a melt down." Those dried-out, burned beans cleaned up okay, and -- ha ha, -- I realized the virtues of soaking cooked-on food. I like this Presto, a throw-back to the 40s and 50s, when pressure cooking was more needed, more popular. While the microwave has eliminated its necessity for some foods, the pressure cooker is still WONDERFUL for making your own stock (ANOTHER WAY TO AVOID BPAS). The Presto has the best price, and it is a solid, sturdy model that includes all the features a regular household could ever actually need.

Great, but the times are misleading

If I made nothing by rice in this, it would totally be worth it. It takes longer than the cook time to make things though. None of the reaipe times include the pressurization time which can be up to 17 mins.
Great product

I am cooking a lot faster with this product and I am very happy with my purchase.
The Power Pressure Cooker XL will operate properly up to a maximum altitude of 2.000 ft above sea level.
October 21, 2016
I bought the Power Pressure Cooker XL because of the pressure canning feature. I was disappointed to see the Altitude and Pressure Canning section: The Power Pressure Cooker XL will operate properly up to a maximum altitude of 2.000 ft above sea level. Do not use this unit for pressure canning above an altitude of 2,000 ft." I live at 6,000 + so I will not be able to use this cooker for pressure canning. So that is the reason for my 4 star rating.
Love it. Use it often.
September 22, 2016
There is a learning curve to using it. But once you understand the process...it greatly reduces cooking time. Clean up is a snap!
Time and money saver but needs better instructions and recipes!
November 29, 2015
I like this product because of it versitility, but felt the instruction booklet and the included mini-cook books could have used better general instructions. Funny, how something like not being able to figure out how to set the timer according to the instructions can have on your opinion of a product. I have yet to use the canning function, but did cook a roast. The roast was not as tender as I had hoped, so will try it well-done next time. It greatly reduces cooking time and power useage, so I'll give it a bunch more tries before I give up on it.
Take the pressure out of cooking.

Amazing product. Does what is says.Only issue is that if incorrect timing is inputted, there is no way to undo as it can't be gauged down.On the whole it's works perfectly. Enjoying d meals. No long time standing around a stove.

Just as good as my "high end" European pressure cooker
September 5, 2017
Just as good as my "high end" European pressure cooker. There is a pressure indicator (pressure is being built up within the pressure cooker) that pops up, however, the pressure cooker pot not has not reached the 15 psi until the follow: "Using a high heat setting on your stove, begin heating the pressure cooker. As pressure is building,a small amount of steam will be released from the pressure regulator. You will know your cooker has reached 15 pounds pressure when you hear and/or see a steady flow of steam releasing from the pressure regulator." This is the signal to lower the temperature on the stove (I usually drop down from 6 to 2 on my electric stove). Again observe "a small amount of steam will be released from the pressure regulator" and occasionally observe and make certain that the steam is being released from the regulator. I will agree with other reviewers that it is some what difficult to place the cover (lid) onto the pressure cooker.
Quality and value
January 4, 2016
This pressure cooker is a quality item that will last for years. The only issue I had was getting used to locking the lid in place. The first time I tried it was frustrating until I realized that you need to line up the little arrows that are pressed into the metal. Once that was cleared up all went well. I also like the idea that this pot can double as a simple "heavy bottom" pan for cooking custards and other items where you would usually need to use a double boiler to slowly cook something at a low temp.
Uses Sealing Ring 09980
April 14, 2015
I've been using this pressure cooker constantly for years (cooking 2-lb bags of beans at least once a week). I'm perfectly happy with it. However I give it only 4 stars because I had to spend hours trying to find the correct seal to replace my torn one. So be sure to write down the seal number: 09980. The Presto company should create a chart with the model numbers of pressure cookers and the corresponding sealing ring numbers. That would have saved me hours from having to read dozens of random sealing-ring packages to see if it fit my model. Even the manual that comes with the pressure cooker doesn't list which sealing ring to use! Amazon offers a "replacement sealing ring" on the pressure cooker's product page, but it's the wrong size! I should know, mine arrived this afternoon in the mail. However tonight I have at long last finally found the right seal and want to announce it to the world: this Presto 8-quart stainless steel pressure cooker uses sealing ring #09980.
Good pressure cooker
December 1, 2014
The Presto pressure cooker is excellent. Cooks quickly and retains the liquids. However, it is difficult to place the lid on the pot. I had to try 3 to 4 times before it clicks shut (in the old Presto pot of my mom it was very simple). I love that pressure controller has a position to release the pressure, so I can open the cooker in a shorter time. The pot came with a small dent on the bottom, while the packaging was in good condition. As I live in another country, the option of returning it to be replaced is not practical for me. It is necessary to review carefully the products to be shipped.
reliable stainless pressure cooker
December 4, 2010
I recently returned a magefesa 6 qt pressure cooker at Costco because the gasket would not seal reliably. We bought the stainless steel presto to replace that, realizing that a tall pot is really helpful because you cannot load a pressure cooker too close to the top. This is large enough to do a large pot roast in the basket on the trivet (included) which places the bottom of the roast about 1 inch up from the bottom. Added water and vinegar are used to deglaze after browning the roast and stay in the bottom to give enough liquid to prevent boiling dry. With the roast in the basket there is still enough room to put plenty of onions and other vegetables on top. My wife likes the old jiggle weight on our old 4qt stainless presto (from 1975) which still works very well but is not big enough. This DOES NOT have a jiggle weight, it is a more modern valve that vents continuously. You do not need (or want) much heat after the liquid in the bottom starts to boil. I use this cooker on a Max Burton induction hot plate. It works very well but I wish the Max Burton induction plate had a power setting of 2.5 on the scale of 1 to 10 (2 is not quite enough and 3 is a little energetic). I am pleased with this Presto stainless steel 8 qt cooker. The gasket seals reliably, it works on the induction hot plate, and it comes with a trivet and basket to keep whatever you are cooking off the bottom (to prevent burning). My one wish is that the included stainless basket was 3/4 inch larger in diameter, the basket is about 8 1/8 inches in diameter and will actually fit in our old 4 qt stainless steel presto with the jiggle weight. Knowing what I know now, I am glad I bought it.
I'm loving this. Plenty of safety features. Why is it rusting and staining?
May 15, 2010
I bought this a month ago. I am amazed that my beans cook in 5 minutes. I thought I remembered much longer from my childhood. I have used this 8 qt. pressure cooker for beans, rice, broccoli steaming, and vegetable soups. Everything has come out perfectly even though I sometimes do not turn the stove down as low as I should once pressure is acheived. For very tender vegetables like broccoli florets, I simply throw them in the water after opening the cooker.I left the cooker soaking in my sink perhaps a bit long (a few days) this week, and when I got back to it, there was rust. I am not too disappointed about that. I also found a few spots that look like pitting on the inside bottom of the pot. I tried scouring them with a green nylon pad, but they persist. I didn't expect pitting and rusting from a stainless steel pot. Nevertheless, I expect to have many happy years of cooking from this pressure cooker. One feature I really love about this cooker is the safety redundancy.1. The steam escape has multiple tiny holes inside the lid. Makes clogging very unlikely.2. As usual, there is a rubber emergency pressure relief stopper to prevent explosion.3. There is a lid lock to prevent opening when the cooker is pressurized.4. Two handles is very safe.A final touch I like is the spring retainer on the pressure weight to help avoid dropping it when you turn the lid upside down.

So far I have not had a good experience with this item. I had to get a replacement part after the first time I tried to use it. When I put the new part in and tried to use it again it still did not work correctly. I will try it one more time and see what happens. Maybe I just got a lemon.

Affordable piece of kitchen hardware

Pressure cooker works well so far. This pressure cooker is definitely thinner than the older model I owned; I'm happy with the performance, and I appreciate that it's a very affordable piece of kitchen hardware. I would recommend.
Pressure cooker's fittings came apart

I liked this pressure cooker in the beginning, but some of the plastic fittings fell apart and made the product unusable.I did not get my money's worth out of this product. When it worked, it worked well.
Nice pressure cooker
August 10, 2015
Nice pressure cooker, but for someone unfamiliar with the product, I spent a lot of time trying to figure out of the steam release valve was on correctly. It sits really awkwardly and you think something is wrong because of the weird angle, when actually it is on correctly. The instructions are no help in this regard.
Great cooker - handles too short. *Update.
June 20, 2015
This was a gift for my father. He loves pressure cookers and has been using them for over 30 years. Although he likes this one, the one complaint was that the handles were too short. He is in his 70s so his dexterity is not was if use to be. Perhaps he just needs to get use to it. Other than that, it would be FIVE stars.*Update: 10/04/15After several months of use, my father has given up on using this pressure cooker. It was getting incredibly difficult to close and open. He still liked the cooker and how it cooked, but could no longer use it. I am going to try and change the rubber gasket and see if that helps with the issue.
It is a good size and all
December 18, 2014
It is a good size and all, but the pressure lock or whatever it is called gets stuck at the bottom. Have to 'pry' it with a knife mid way through cooking so that it won't lose steam. It's been 9 months. First couple of months it worked OK I think.
Works okay, but would go with a sturdier model in the future
March 22, 2014
The metal is a bit thin -- mine arrived with a small dent on the bottom edge. Every time I've used it, some food burnt on the bottom. It wasn't hard to clean the burnt part afterward with a little kosher salt and lemon scrub, however, it does burn each time even though I added plenty of liquid and turned the burner on low once it reached pressure. Next time I'll spend more for a higher-quality model.

good news/ bad news.....
May 29, 2017
good news/ bad news...I bought this about six weeks ago . I 'm going to compare it to the Instant Pot , because I've had both. The good news is that this PC is simpler- which I loved. It was easy for me, a person who always has trouble figuring out a manual- to start cooking immediately because of the simplicity of the buttons. The food tasted fantastic. Whenever asked, they claim that this is a stainless steel pot. Well- the outside of it is. But the inside, which comes in contact with your food- is not. The inner pot is a very lightweight teflon coated pot. I don't want teflon. Would rather have stainless steel. The upper lid appears to be aluminum. Both teflon and aluminum have negative effects on our bodies. In addition, the floating vent ( not the release vent, but the vent inside the handle) fell out after one month's use and no matter how hard my husband and I tried, we could not get it to stay in. So instead of being a pressure cooker, all of the steam was released out of the hole in the handle. The liquid inside thus evaporated. Food burned and the meat got tough. I threw it out a few days ago, got an Instant Pot, which is clearly more solidly made. The inner pot and the inner lid are both made of stainless steel in the Instant Pot. I will say, however, that I do find the Instant Pot more complicated to work. So there you have it, my views of the two pots. I will say this, though. I will never, ever be without an electric pressure cooker from now on because the food tastes so great!

I wanted an upgrade from the $30 pressure cooker by Presto I had for years, so I ordered the Presto stainless steel one. It's heavier and looks great. However, the 3 times I've used it, I struggle with getting the top off after releasing the pressure. This makes me dread cooking with it. I wish I could return it!

An engineering screw-up makes this cover VERY difficult to remove - unworkable for most
September 1, 2014
This PC is VERY difficult to open and close.I coat the gasket with cooking oil, which helps. And I use a small crow bar to pry the handles apart - to open it.Cooling helps a little, only a little. But for the average user - beware! The engineer and QC people were asleep on their feet. The fit is maybe .020 too tight. What a screw-up! Presto needs to re-organize their manufacturing and engineering departments so screw=ups like do not happen. What a mess!
Rusted on the inside
January 30, 2013
I purchased it as it was stainless steel. But after 2 washes started to rust on the inside. So returned the item and was promptlyreimbursed.
Too many frightening blow-outs... we give up.
December 18, 2012
We've had this pressure cooker for about a year now. We use it exclusively for cooking soaked pinto and garbanzo beans. It does an amazing job of quickly cooking these beans to a creamy softness. The stainless steel pot is solid and useful in itself. However, we have had some trouble with this pressure cooker. Sometimes as the cooker approaches liftoff the seal will not hold and pressurized bean-water will blast out of the vent and from around the seal. This can make for a great mess in the kitchen. We had this happen several times, even after taking great care to make sure the seal was perfectly positioned and the lid clamped down correctly. We were getting close to giving up on it. In the end we found a solution that seems to be working. We load up the cooker and put the lid on. We heat it all up to near boiling and then remove it from the stove and put it on a wooden cutting board. We then remove the lid. Immediately we carefully align the lid, press down upon it firmly and evenly, and retighten it. It seems that the rubber gasket slides easier once it has heated up than it does when you position it cold and this must lead to a better seal. It's then returned to the stove top to finish pressurizing and cooking. The pressure will hold if we do this extra step, but may not if we fail to do so. It works great as long as we do this. I deduct one star for having to do this, and for Presto not having suggested this in the user manual. If you end up with a "bursting" pressure cooker, try this and see if it helps you too.EDIT: (Sept. 2014)We've decided to give up on this pressure cooker. We can sometimes successfully cook our beans, but we've had enough messy and frightening blowouts to make us want to go back to boiling our beans... simple, and it actually works! My wife gets stressed each time we fire this thing up... not worth it. It doesn't pay to go cheap on tools, kitchen tools included it seems. I wish I'd just spent the money on a top-end unit such as the All American. Our pressure cooker will now be a simple soup pot, as we have another lid that fits it.
It did not work out for me
June 26, 2011
I did quite a lot of research and read many reviews before I purchased this pressure cooker. And I have a friend who has this model and she uses her nearly every day. So I was very disappointed in what happened when I used this pressure cooker. I followed all instructions that came with it but I could not get the unit to reach an adequate pressure. I have an electric glass-top range, but that should not interfere with how this cooker worked.I let the pressure cooker heat to a point of excessive steam release (and a lot of noise) before I turned the heat down, but still my recipe was under-cooked. In fact, everything I cooked in it (four different recipes) I had to cook twice in order to get the food done. So, I sent this pressure cooker back for a refund and purchased from Amazon an electric one (different manufacturer)which I absolutely love.

Terrible Quality & Service.
October 19, 2017
Received the first order with a couple of screws on the lid fallen out. Amazon sent out a replacement right away, that was great. After 9 months of use, twice a week, the Teflon coating of the inner pot is fading revealing the aluminum (?).We contacted the manufacturer today for replacement, they redirected us to Amazon and Amazon on the other hand can't replace it after the 30 days. So we are returning the product today.

it does not function like the manual directions dictate. i made one meal with it, and that was a real pain. it does not build up pressure when you lock the lid in place. there is no click when you rotate the cover to the lock position.
older pressure cooker worked better.

Worst purchase ever, useless if you want to use it more than twice. Millennials will love it as a kitchen accessory.Over a period of a few months it slowly loses pressure and takes longer and longer to cook.Edit: totally useless.
Terribly disappointed. I returned it

Lock System Production Mistake
September 25, 2015
The pressure cooker we bought has been used once, but we had a terrible time of it! I am not an engineer, but it seems the folds along the bottom edge of the lid are in essence part of the locking system. These machine stamped folds are Presto 01370 8-Quart Stainless Steel Pressure Cookertighter than what would enable a reasonable person to activate the close-open function. We are in the process of returning this product for lack of reasonable functionality. We have always relied on Presto products and assume that this production mistake will be amended.

I brought this from Amazon nearly two years ago. Without any warning, it exploded suddenly when we were cooking meat in it a few weeks ago. So terrible! Fortunately my one year old kid was not in the kitchen. After the crappy cooker made such a mess, we contacted Amazon and got the contact information of Presto (I got their phone number). Ironically, no matter how/when I tried to contact Presto, no one picked up phone. And Amazon is not going to do anything about it since it was brought two years ago. So disappointed for this purchase!

This is extremely difficult to close. I have tried the tricks recommended in the booklet that came with this thing to no avail. But it is even harder to open. I have tonight's dinner in the cooker, smelling delicious, but we will be having peanut butter sandwiches because I can't open it. Nor could my son who works all day lifting huge boxes.
Works great til the rubber pressure valve comes out!!!
June 18, 2014
I had this pot for 3 months and loved it. Then today the rubber plug fell out and rolled under my oven. I came on here to order all new parts for it since I figured they would wear out too, but I got to reading the other reviews. Many people on here had that rubber plug blow out while they were cooking with it and it exploded all over their kitchen!! So Ill consider myself lucky that my plug came out when I wasn't cooking in it!! I would suggest looking for a pot that doesn't have any rubber blow holes on the lid. This pot is now a dog bowl.
Scary
