Well-priced Thermostat that provides 5-2 programming
November 11, 2017
I thought I was going to have to replace my furnace because it just was not heating up according to the setting I selected, and facing such an expense was overwhelming for me at this particular time. Necessity is the mother of invention, they say, and in my case, I become more creative. I decided to buy a new thermostat to see whether that would help and if not, then I'd go for a new furnace. A handyman installed the new thermostat and my house has been evenly heated according to the selected setting ever since. I particularly am relieved to actually be able to read the larger display panel and the instructions for programming are simple enough. The price was reasonable as I checked local sellers that were slightly above or the same as the cost online, and it didn't require me going shopping.
Easy to install
August 30, 2017
Just Installed, will watch for accuracy, replaced an older model Honeywell that seemed to become inaccurate for temperature reading after about 2 years. Easy to install, it does accommodate newer systems. My HVAC system is pretty old, so I only use the Hold Temperature Setting and I do not program as my system can't handle constant programming changes, this was learned after burning up a few circuit boards on my system. Initially installed this Thermostat seems pretty accurate within 1 to 2 degrees based on numerous other temperature reading devices that I keep near the thermostat. I will update with any new changes. I only purchase at full price with no offers or discounts.
Auto does not show in heat cool window.
July 4, 2017
I do not (auto) in the window where heat and cool are. Will the auto switch work this way? There is a note in the literature that says depending on the installation. auto may not be visible in that window. There is not any info stating whether the auto feature will work if not visible on screen.
it was easy to replace my thermostat
June 27, 2017
I always wanted to switch to a Programmable thermostat. I Wanted it replaced for conservation reasons, just in case I forget to turn the air/heat up or down when leaving the house. i don't want the AC cranking all day while I'm not there, hopefully this will save on my electric bill. Florida days can get quite hot. the installation was surprisingly easy as i already had a Honeywell non-programmable thermostat so the switch over was simple, as it has the same wire set up. I also bought the cover plate that goes between the wall and the thermostat that covers up the hammered wall and makes it all look clean again.
Finally, 71 means 71!
March 22, 2017
I had a non-digital thermostat, and the temperature in this place fluctuated wildly! This sweet little thermostat took care of that. It maintains the programmed temp extremely well. I have the daytime temp set at 71, and it ranges between less than a couple of degrees. At night, it takes it down to 65 and keeps it there until 6 am. Love this thing.

December 27, 2016
After messing around with quite a few thermostats from Menards, I finally realized I needed to do some research. My research consisted of look at what we use at the church I work at.... Oh look! Honeywell still makes really functional easy to understand thermostats (not quite as easy as those old round beauties, but still pretty decent). Then I headed to Amazon to see how much they would set me back and I was pleasantly surprised they would not require a payment plan. Research Completed, Order Submitted. Thermostat arrived packaged well and installed with ease. It even came with a really extensive instruction book which I completely ignored because I just have a simple heating system and because I am a man and reading instructions is something I only do if I run stuck or break something trying to do it the wrong way : )

Love this item
August 18, 2017
Love this item. The price was unbelievable on Amazon. What I like about this is: 1) The ease of setup and the fact that once you set up the schedule for one day you can just copy to all the other days; 2) the auto feature that follows the schedule to a "T" so that as the temperature changes between hot and cold, so does the thermostat--automatically between a/c and heat; 3) the energy saving aspect and that the LCD goes into power saving mode; 4) the ease of reading and understanding the LCD display. I am about the buy three more.
Excellent!
July 14, 2017
Excellent. Only minor quibble is even with constant power availability from the heating / cooling system, display won't stay lit like some other brands.Programming is easy to setup, and you don't necessarily need to use the 4 times of day the way they're labeled.I tried other brands with nearly identical functionality, but they went whacky with following programming (even rma'd).
Easy Install and Programming
June 8, 2017
Easy to install and program. We were replacing an older Lux thermostat so the install was a bit different. We called Honeywell support and they were a big help. After installing it was blowing warm air, so we called Honeywell once more and they helped again. They let us know since we had a heat pump we needed to program a code for the system to work. So far it has helped to regulate the temperature in our house. We have an older home (in Phx, AZ) and it seemed like the air conditioning ran all the time. It was nice to wake up and not have the air running in the morning.

August 19, 2016
Goes through batteries pretty fast but the way it handles temps seems to be more efficient than the last thermostat I had.I believe that we are seeing lower electric bills while having our AC 'on' almost non-stop this summer while having a colder temp setting vs the old thermostat. This is likely due to how it runs several short cycles to maintain desired temp vs allowing house to overheat then cool down past set cooling point.I.E. runs the AC a few times an hour for a short time to maintain temp vs running it a few times a day for several hours to attempt to control the temp.
Easy to Install. Programming seems a little daunting at first, but hang in there, you'll get it.
February 20, 2016
Installation was straightforward. At first the process of programming seemed a little daunting. But once I figured that I have a pretty regular schedule throughout the week -- I get up at the same time, leave in the morning at the same time, come home at the same time, and go to bed at the same time -- it was easy to program. Easy to put on hold when out of town on travel. I'm happy with the purchase.
Excellent thermostat
August 3, 2011
I replaced my 22-yr old Honeywell ChronoTherm with this more modern unit. My old thermostat worked as it was supposed to, but it allowed the temperature to swing about 2 degrees before activating. In the summer, I would be feeling overly warm and as I was about to adjust the thermostat it would click on. That was getting tiresome although I endured it for years. This new thermostat does not disappoint. It turns on the air just as I am starting to feel a bit warm and I like that. I don't know how it works in winter yet, but I have no reason to believe there would be any problem there, either. Some folks argue that having it turn on and off more frequently is a problem. I disagree. Those guys need to live here where it's over 98 degrees most of the summer and see if they mind the a/c coming on too often. Besides, I keep the temperature on 78 day and 79 night with the help of this unit and I can see that it is more energy efficient than the prior unit. Here we have "smart" power meters and I can check my usage every day. This thermostat has made a difference. Although the peak cooling season is right now (August) my heaviest usage days were all back in July before installing the new thermostat when it was actually cooler outdoors. Now I'm using about 5 kwh less per day on a 2-story 2200 sq ft home with single a/c and heat. Also, I never feel the need any longer to go and crank the temp down because I am feeling too warm. Do that in the heat of the day does cause a great loss of efficiency. So basically I am MUCH more comfortable which is very nice indeed.I really don't need the 7-day program ability or the vacation hold. However I did want the automatic changeover between cool/heat so my decision was clear. Also, I could not convince myself that any brand other than Honeywell would be a good choice since I know from experience they have a great reputation for making fine thermostats.Installation could hardly have been any easier. Setting it up was simply a matter of following the very clear Installation Guide. Almost all the options were factory set as I needed them except I turned on the automatic changeover. That makes no difference now, but later in the fall when we are still having 90 degree days and 60 degree nights it will be nice not to awaken in a chill. The lighted touch screen is nice, since my hallway is usually quite dark. Not a big deal, since other than to do a little fine tuning on the program I haven't needed to touch it. Yes, the light does turn off a bit quickly but I've learned to tap in a blank area of the display and turn it on again while I ponder my next move. This unit does not offer the option to be illuminated continuously. That at first annoyed me but to be reasonable about it, it only means that the light will not be deteriorating over its life and getting dimmer every year. It should last for many years (my guess) by turning on only when really needed rather than being an expensive night light. To wrap up, it's a great thermostat. I wish it would pay my utility bills but at least it is helping to ease the monthly pain by a dollar or two and the savings will add up. I like it.

Excellent product
March 8, 2017
I already had 3 other of this type but was installing a new zone with a new boiler. The original 3 made loud clicks as the heat kicked on and off, but this one is quieter. There still is a minor click you'll hear though. Additionally, it did not come with screws or drywall anchors as indicated in the manual (from what I recall). Still, minor complaints for a product that works great and is much, much cheaper here than at Lowes or HD.
Pleased Customer

The instructions aren't the best. We did a little extra research prior to installing because we are not electricians. It is fully battery powered which is something I was not prepared for, but 3mo later the batteries are still running strong. The programed settings work correctly and are easy to set. It is roughly 3 degrees off from the true temperature so it doesn't turn off and on constantly. I was glad to see that. It is pretty decent for the price. Gave it a 4/5 rating simply because it is 100% battery powered. I would have preferred electric but so far so good.
4 stars because of a defective one
November 4, 2016
I bought 3 but had to return one because one of them showed the inside temperature 6 degrees below the actual room temperature. This caused the thermostat to overheat the room. Amazon shipped me another one in one day which worked correctly. I would check all that you buy against each other or against another thermometer to see if the inside temperature registers correctly. That is why I rated them 4 stars. I finally ended up with 3 that are 5 stars
Honeywell Thermostat
August 21, 2016
This thermostat seems to be a great replacement for my old one that was no longer working. The back light makes it easy to see at night something that my old thermostat didn't have. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is the wiring is a bite tricky so it took me a fair amount of time to figure out. All in all I like it very much and would recommend this thermostat to anyone looking for a low price replacement.
Working great so far.
December 11, 2015
Just installed this unit yesterday and it is working great. The only problem is that I had to call Honeywell 3x before it was working properly. All 3 customer service reps very nice but wish there would have been more comprehensive instructions to not have to call at all. Calling was not very painful though. Git through to a rep pretty quickly.
Great product and easy install
January 7, 2014
I got 2 of these to replace similar thermostats that could only handle one program for the entire week. I needed one that would match my routine of different timings for the weekend. This model does that and is way easier to setup and monitor what is going on than the old ones.Installation was very easy with clear instructions and almost impossible to get wrong. I have a fairly straight forward heating/cooling system but there are detailed steps and diagrams for more complicated systems like heat pumps etc if needed. Setup was also very easy with well documented steps for the initial system match [so it understands what it's controlling] and scheduling the time/temperatures was also easy thanks to the well laid out display.I have had these in for a Month now and am very pleased with the results, I would recommend them to anyone.

March 24, 2017
easy to install but had electrician do it since I don't like working with electric wires. still having difficulty programming. got it to follow a schedule everyday of week but when indoor heat reached 2 degrees above the heat setting and 4 degrees above the cool setting, the cool setting did not kick in and had to adjust manually, which is very easy to do but that defeats the purpose of a programmable thermostat. i watched numerous online videos and still can't figure out how to get it to cool when indoor heat reaches above heat setting.
Note that it does not have a "CIRCulate" mode like similar ones from Honeywell
January 19, 2017
Check Lowe's for a similar model that is A LOT cheaper. Wish I'd seen these before buying this one. But there is nothing wrong with it. Note that it does not have a "CIRCulate" mode like similar ones from Honeywell.
Good unit, go for the network capable unit
September 12, 2015
Good unit. I'd recommend going with the WIFI version as it seems like homes are becoming "Smart" these days. The touch display is a little tricky but i installed this in my 70+ yr old mothers house to replace her 30+ yr old metallic spring thermostat and she does just fine with it. The only thing to be aware of is when the battery starts to fade or dies, the unit is dead which results in the house going cold so monitor the battery which lasted over a year.
So far so good
October 25, 2014
It took more that 15 minutes to set this product up with a backup heat pump system. Not quite as simple as you might like but it can't be helped when you have A/C, heat pimp and auxiliary heat to contend with. Also, a big facto when deciding to purchase is that the product dimensions shown are not correct! This device is not 10"X9"X2" as described but actually 6"X4.5"X1 1/4". That is a huge difference and should be corrected. I have since discovered that it is important to RHEEM A/C, heat pump owners to set 0190 heat pump changeover valve to 1 not 0! RHEEM is the only manufacturer that requires this setting.
Very good thermostat! (but poor AUX-Heat usage control)
December 11, 2013
I like it. I found it to be very user friendly, easy to connect, and easy to set up.For me, its only minor downfall is how it handles the AUX heat, as others have mentioned. I have a basic setup, heat pump + electric AUX heat. As I watched it, the AUX heat was kicking in way before I thought it was necessary. I eventually reprogrammed the thermostat to disable the Adaptive Intelligent Recovery, and disable the AUX heat altogether. The past few weeks have had some -15 ºF nights, and I woke up to a temperature 4 ºF lower than what I set it to, which for me is fine. It is not worth the cost of running the AUX heat (excessively as this thermostat does, IMO) all winter for the few nights where it gets that cold.I would prefer the "Heat" setting to be Heat-pump only, and the "AUX Heat" setting to allow the AUX to be used, or some other way to prevent the AUX heat from coming on 98% of the time, and to enable it for the couple nights a year where I would actually use it. (other than going through and reprogramming it each night/morning.)

Didn't work as shipped
September 29, 2017
The product really deserves a 5 star review. It works perfectly. BUT, only after I fixed it. With typically American quality control, the thermostat was shipped with a broken R-Rc jumper. Nothing worked - no fan, no cool, no heat, nothing. Obviously the thermostat was never tested. However the broken jumper wasn't obvious, so it took me hours to discover that. Once I replaced that jumper wire, everything worked as intended.

Honeywell is usually great, however the thermometer in the thermostat reads a few degrees cold. It works, but I just need to remember that the temp is not what it reads. I should have returned this for a replacement.
Not Sure What to Think
August 29, 2016
Not sure if package was opened prior to shipment. Here's what was missing: the jumper wire for a 4 wire set-up (had to make my own), no quick reference guide and no stickers to keep track of the wires (although that's not a real difficult chore). Most interesting and challenging was to figure out where to put the R wire when there was no jumper in the panel. Unless there's a significant difference between the 6350 and 6450 packaging, I am not sure what's happened here.
Smart Response technology not so smart.
February 4, 2016
It's great, except for the "Smart Response" technology that's supposed to figure out when turn the heat on in order to bring the house up to temperature on time. I followed all the setup directions. After using it for weeks, it still brings the up to temperature 30 minutes before the time I set. That's like keeping the house too hot for 15 hours a month. I'm disabling this "smart" feature after I've wasted money heating the house more than I need to.
Overkill to control a simple heater
January 30, 2016
Works well and the backlight is great but there are two significant design flaws:1. There is no "lock" with which to prevent accidental modifications: e.g., touching the fan or cool buttons will alter the behavior of the thermostat.2. For systems without a cooler, this thermostat is overkill, and there is no way to really disable the cooling functions (e.g., to prevent mistakes). Not clear if Honeywell offers a thermostat without cooling functions.I wish I bought a simpler thermostat.

Not what I thought
July 16, 2017
Was told it had a fan circulate button or adjustment, but it did not come with it like I saw the same in my son's home which had one. Bought the same model as his, RTH8500D, but not the same
Not Compatible with All Heat Pumps Despite Install Instructions
May 4, 2017
This nicely-priced thermostat looks exactly like the one I needed to replace. Very convenient to have the same wall plate with the exact same wiring configuration. However once it was installed and set up, I was getting heat when set to cool, and nothing when set to heat. I called Honeywell (very helpful) 800 number. We went over the details. Turns out this is not compatible with certain heat pumps. To be specific, I looked at the settings for the old thermostat (installer/setup mode) and it called for two cooling cycles but only one heat cycle. There was a set-up for this configuration, but Honeywell informed me that despite those instructions (wrong) in their manual, it would not work, and I needed the (far more expensive) RT9580WF to handle that configuration. So: I can't tell you how well this works; I would just say that if you have a heat pump, check with Honeywell support before you purchase.
The functionality of this thing is great, its a breeze to program
December 10, 2016
I'm giving this 3 stars because I had to buy a replacement for the house I moved into about a year ago. The functionality of this thing is great, its a breeze to program. However I would have expected such a simple piece of electronics to last almost forever, especially at the $100 price point and its mounted to the wall, so it's not being subjected to harsh conditions...The one I had just up and quit working, I think the internal relays broke.
Honeywell could have done better...
December 7, 2016
Does the job but...I purchased this thermostat because I just replaced my HAVC system. Although there was nothing wrong with my oldthermostat, I figured I'd replace everything for today's energy efficiency standards.Works as intended but the way the engineers/designers have it setup keeps your furnace frequently turning on.Example: If you set the temp for 70, it will get the temp to exactly 70. Once the temp drops down to 69 it turns onthe system again. No buffer temp settings which is an issue if you have a house in the northeast during brutal winters. My older thermostat would heat up 2 degrees warmer than the set temp then allowed to drop 2 degrees cooler to preventthe system from running frequently. That way it's more merciful on your system and energy bill. The other issue is the display. The touchscreen is sometimes non-responsive. The backlight would be better if it were a lighter color and brighter. The characters are small and difficult to read if you have less than optimal eyesight. Although it's programable I believe they miss the mark om some key programability. such as temp buffer settings, font/character size, backlight adjustment and so on.Other than the issues I've mentioned, it does the job. Although I think I'm going to reinstall my older thermostat which was kinder to my system and utility bill. The old saying goes: If it ain't broken, why fix it? Lesson learned. If you're in a drafty house and have brutal winters I'd suggest sealing up those drafty areas. But most importantly, seek a thermostat with a reasonable buffer setting to prevent wear and tear on your HAVC system and your utility cost.
It's Okay
May 11, 2016
Reverts back to the manufacture's settings. Have had three HVAC techniicians try programming personal settings, but it will not Hold. You can set it to Hold for a number of hours or days only. I have had many thermostats, this one is okay, but not one of the best I have had by any means.
Works great for my multi-stage heating and cooling system
November 16, 2013
I installed this unit to replace a RiteTemp thermostat with a dead display. This unit offers a lot of capability, but lacks the control for a humidifier that my RiteTemp included. I've learned that I can buy a different Honeywell version for substantially more that will add that feature, but decided it just wasn't work the expense. This unit works great with my multi-stage heating and cooling. The temperature appears accurate and the run times are appropriate. Since my home is occupied 24/7, the programmability of the thermostat is of little use to me. I had to buy a unit of this scale in order to get the multi-stage controls. I do like the backlit LCD display on thermostats, but I find this one to be a bit difficult to read because of it's height (compared to mine) and the green output from the backlight. It could be brighter, and using a white background color would make it MUCH easier to read and navigate. Other than that, I find that this works very well so far.

Like all tech it's supposed to work but does it really????
September 6, 2017
Kind of a pain to use. I have a two stage heat pump. The Thermostat kept losing program instructions. So when you would select ac you would get heat instead. You haft to select numbers according to what type of system you have. I would select what I needed, then recheck the settings and they would be different then inputted. Had to do that like five times till it accepted the program. Finally accepted the program and started working right. Meaning when I turn on the ac it blows cold air and not hot.Been two weeks now and thermostat is functioning properly. Has held programming, so far. Only one glitch at the beginning of the two weeks, I believe the third day after install. Lost program for some reason, reset numbers been good since. So my review is ''it works, very sketchy''. My suggestion is, pull off the old thermostat and match the numbers. Just trip the power off to the ac unit and they take apart old thermostat. Numbers are inside behind the old thermostat.
Easy to read and program - don't forget to check for energy company rebates!!
February 23, 2017
UPDATE: used for less than 6 months AND IT FAILED. Came home to a 93 degree house yesterday with furnace running non stop. As first step in troubleshooting, put the old non-programmable back up. Works fine. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO________________________________________________________________________________________This was super easy to program and install. We hope we're even happier when the next energy bill arrives!! I will say that the only down side I see to this is that it's hard to separate from the mounting plate. If you want to reprogram 'all' the time slots it's quite a lot to stand there while it's on the wall and do. I have had others in the past that 'just popped right off' with the right touch and I wish this one did too, it really requires a screwdriver to press in on either the top or bottom tabs to get it 'free' from it's wall mount.Other than that, the screen is easy to read and it is keeping the scheduled temp routine perfectly.
Returned as defective for innacuurate temp reading
August 28, 2016
Pros:Easy to use, program, and install if you are a DIY'er.Cons:Product was not accurate. Temperature reading was off by three degrees. Markings on the plate and unit and missing wire label sheet suggest it was installed before and repackaged as "new".Recommendation:I returned this unit as defective because of the inaccuracy. I did NOT order a replacement from this seller because I believe they sold me a returned unit.
Thermostat CLICKS!
June 24, 2016
The thermostat was easy to install and easy to program, BUT it clicks. While operating, the thermostat has an audible double click before it turns the furnace or air conditioner on and again before it signals the unit to turn off. This goes on throughout the day and night. Our upstairs thermostat is in our master bedroom, and the double click is a nuisance.
Disappointed with the product
May 23, 2016
Disappointed with the product. Instructions indicate two AA alkaline batteries required. The thermostat also indicates alkaline batteries are required. Product was shipped with two Carbon Batteries made by Kingever. Also the quick reference card that goes into a slot in the thermostat was missing.
Update - Display faded out in less than a year -
June 27, 2015
Ordered this thermostat to replace a professionally installed thermostat that only lasted a couple of years. I have had good luck with Honeywell products in the past. I have a typical Heat/AC system which has a natural gas fired furnace. I have two separate systems; one for the master bedroom suite which primarily runs at night and one for the rest of the house which primarily runs during the day. This thermostat was for the bedroom suite system. Installation was very straightforward; just a matter of matching the proper color wires with the proper color terminals. Do be certain that you have the power to the system turned off so you will not damage the transformer. After reading other reviews I decided to inactivate the "Smart Response" function. I preferred to have direct control of the system since we primarily use the system only at night. The procedure to inactivate this is very simple and is on page 20 of the Quick Installation Guide. I have been very pleased with the operation of the thermostat. It is easy to setup and keeps the room at a uniform comfortable temperature. UPDATE-Display faded out and became unreadable in less than a year of use -Replaced with "tried and true" Honeywell model RTH2300/RTH221 Series which is all I really needed to start with.

Buying these was a mistake.
January 29, 2016
I have several of the commercial version of this unit, and ordered these thinking they were the same, but they are not. The key feature that is missing is the ability to lockout the touchscreen. The other version of this is awesome. I have half a dozen that have been in operation for over 5 years with no problem. I put them in frequent-use areas, because the adjusted lockout allows me to make it so that no one can adjust it, or set it so that the temp can be adjusted for a short period but it goes back to normal afterwards. This unit does not contain the lockout feature, meaning anyone can change the temps, change the programs, or do whatever they like to it. It is not much better than a cheap basic model from your local hardware store. Spend the money and get something better.
Do not use with a heat pump.
March 9, 2015
Do not use with a heat pump. This thermostat kicks the system into alternate heat quickly rather than ramping up the temperature using the heat pump so we have just left it on a set temperature rather than adjusting the indoor setting down to conserve electricity. Honeywell says there is a 3 degree difference in the set temperature and actual indoor temperature before calling for alternative heat. This isn't our experience. Wish I had done more research prior to purchasing.
Junk after 11 months.
September 4, 2014
Well it lasted 11 months. When using A/C I always keep it at 77 degrees when the A /C comes on as it should and the temp drops to 77 it doesn't shut off it keeps running but yet some how it still shows that it is 77 degrees in the house. My guess is that the display that shows you the inside temp is different than what it is actually reading like it has a separate thermometer that reads different?I bought this in Nov 2013 and according to Amazon my return/refund ended in Jan 2014....seriously only 3 months?
Poor quality control
February 2, 2014
When this product works, it is great. Easy to install and use; great functionality. Those aspects would have earned this product 5 stars. BUT, I purchased 5 of these for the different zones in my house. 4 have worked flawlessly. I had to replace 1 of them TWICE, because of erratic behavior of the touch-pad and thermostat. For example, each of the defective ones would work well for a week or two, then the touchscreen would become non-responsive and would set itself to NINETY DEGREES and couldn't be changed. Ugh! Probably worth finding another brand (not many out there). Or buying Honeywell's professional grade. (Also: dealing with customer service was a neutral experience. Agents were bland but not offensive. They seemed to understand the issue. BUT, once they resolved to to send me a replacement, it took 3-4 weeks for it to arrive!! In the middle of a single-digit-temperature stretch in New England.)

This thermostat from "online plumbing" was not new and had been previously opened. It seemed okay anyway and we installed it. The thermostat read too low (when compared with an in-room thermometer) and, after living with it a couple of weeks, we removed it to see if anything was wrong. It was corroded, both on the motherboard and the battery contacts. Doubt it was a problem with the Honeywell product, because we have been very happy with every other Honeywell thermostat we've had.
Six degrees of separation -- FAIL!

The positive: Installation was clear, straightforward, and easy. Programming was a snap. Unfortunately, the thermostat is grossly inaccurate in operation. When set to cool, it indicates six-to-seven degrees BELOW what the temperature actually is. I tested this with FOUR different digital thermometers placed nearby, all of which registered this difference within one degree of each other. Obviously the unit is defective, so I'm returning it immediately.
HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE
June 7, 2016
It was easy for the install, and I can program it very easily. I love that I can take it off the wall, sit down to do the programming. I love that it should allow for multiple time changes. BUT After I programmed it, it would NOT adhere to the program. It will only go with time variations of the pre-programmed setup, apparently. I cannot make it work with my power company time of day hours and temperature changes to pre-cool and then stay at high temp. It keeps wanting to cool things down (recover it says) when I need it to stay on 81. . Maybe mine is flawed, I paid someone $100 to install this thing and it's not worth it to pay again to replace.I called customer service, got an "international" call center employee who helped me disable the "recovery feature. Now it works OK but stlil doesn't do exactly what I have programmed it to do, which is: 77 all night until 1 pm then 74 until 4 pm, then 81 until 7 pm then back to 77 again. It just won't do the 77 to 74 to 81 thing no matter what.
Defective out of the box

AC never worked. I thought my AC broken but repair came and confirmed it was thermostat--but by that time it was too late to return. Quality control anyone?
Buyer beware.

I purchased this thermostat for my home more than a month ago. The unit always reads 7-8 cooler than what the room temperature actually is. I contacted Honeywell Customer Service and the only responses they gave me were reasons I could get an inaccurate reading which included:"It is not unusual for the displayed temperature on a digital thermostat to read 2-4 degrees different than a standard thermometer. This is because thermostats measure ambient air temperature and radiant wall temperature whereas standard thermometers only measure ambient air temperature. Digital thermostats also round the temperature display in order to provide a more stable temperature display. These factors can account for the 2-4 degree temperature difference between the thermostat and a standard thermometer"All of the troubleshooting was pure speculation, none of which was a factor in the placement of our thermostat. Our old one "that just quit working" had no problems with giving an accurate reading.Terrible customer service for a terrible product. Returning to Amazon, by the way, because the company would not take it back. Their 1 year warranty is backed by the retailer. Not them.

I bought this item in December and not even 6 months later it has stopped working.
I subsequently installed a LUX TX9600TS and it worked fine. If you want a Honewell thermostat
November 28, 2014
The thermostat was purchased for its large format screen. The product was advertised to work with the conditions at the installation. After 6 phone calls to Honeywell for help to wire the unit, it was not operational. I contacted the contractor who installed the heating system 10 years prior and was untimately told that Honeywell did not make a large screen thermostat that would work for the installation. I subsequently installed a LUX TX9600TS and it worked fine. If you want a Honewell thermostat, check the wiring first and call Honeywell to see if it will work before you purchase it.
Does NOT follow schedule!!!
February 10, 2013
I bought the RTH8500D in late 2011, and was happy with the unit for about a year while all of the great features worked as advertised. Sadly, I can no longer say that.In December 2012, I noticed the heater would not come on in the morning. The unit said "following schedule", "heat", but would show a current temperature of 63 degrees, and a "set to" temp of 70 degrees, meaning the heater should come on, but it wouldn't. I changed the batteries, reprogrammed it several times, but the heater would NOT turn on. The heater worked later in the day, as advertised, but NOT in the morning. Since there are 4 time periods (wake, leave, return, sleep), I stopped using the wake period. This seemed to help for a short period of time, but now, in early Feb 2013, the heater is again not coming on in the morning...even though the unit says "following schedule", "heat", inside temp well below the programmed "set to" temp.I will look for a replacement, but likely not a Honeywell.
