Awesome thermostat

Very easy to install, sleek, simple, and user friendly. Knowing almost nothing about these kinds of devices, I installed it in a matter of minutes, and it's been working great ever since.
Awesome

This thermostat has been a huge upgrade from my old unit and just in time for these summer temps. The schedule is so easy to set and overall the unit efficiently heats/cools the house. Some people complain about the Adaptive Intelligent Recovery that is a default feature of the unit. All this means is that the unit will run BEFORE the scheduled times you set in order to achieve those temperatures by your set times. Adjust your schedule times accordingly. I personally love this feature. Great unit!
So easy to use, looks good & accurate.

We have the same one upstairs for the heat pump and found it so easy to use that we put this gas pack version in for the downstairs air/heat. Our air guy was coming for yearly service so he installed it for us in minutes.
Intuitive enough for Technophobes, yet Versatile
November 25, 2015
Replaced a smaller Carrier unit. The Carrier was overly complex, overloading too much function on too many buttons. This traditional thermostat is more intuitive, with simple sliders for fan and mode, and enough buttons to make programming straightforward. If I were shopping again, I would look for one just like this, but with some sort of lockout feature. Some young males in my house (ahem, Dale and Jesse) don't understand that it is not good to turn off the program and call for ridiculously low temperatures during Houston summers...
Great entry-level thermostat for the price- simple programming
December 23, 2014
Replaced a Honeywell non-programmable with this one, so I didn't have to bother with new mounting points which it made it super easy to install. For the price you can't beat this thermostat. Yes, there are basically only two programmed settings for weekday and weekend but it makes programming easier than setting up each day. I like the over-ride function that only holds the temp until the next programmed change.I did turn off the "adaptive recovery" which was very easy (instructions were detailed in included manual).
Easy to install and to program, a great upgrade to an RV
November 25, 2013
I bought this thermostat to upgrade the analog thermostat in my motorhome. The swap was very easy to make as the instructions were clear. Once installed (which took all of five minutes), programming the device was a snap. I wanted a unit that would lower the temperature before bed and raise it in the morning. This device does that and more. It has two main programs, Monday-Friday, and then the weekend. For each program, you can set a temperature for wake up time, the day, the evening, and the night. So if you work outside the home, the temperature would be allowed to drop during the day and then be brought up to a comfortable temperature at your return. It works perfectly and is much more sensitive than was the old analog unit, so I find that I'm saving on propane. My furnace runs more often, but for shorter bursts and the temperature barely fluctuates. One thing to be aware of is that if you set the thermostat to 65F at 8AM on Saturday morning (or whenever), it will guess how long it will take to get to that temperature and may start the furnace much earlier than that! I've come to program the thermostat to reach a certain temperature about a half hour after I want to get up so that the furnace starts when I'm actually ready to wake up.

I was recommended the 5000 by a few buddies of mine who do HVAC out at a refinery. They all mentioned that every unit used the 5000 and that each one of their homes had the 5000 in theirs which they installed. So, I went on ahead and ordered one. So far everything has been really great with this thermostat. It does everything I need to and it isn't loud like some have mentioned. Easy install as well. Also I might mention that I was told that these thermostat's can go thru quite a bit and are resilient as all get out so it should last for a very long time.
Great buy for the DIYer!
April 5, 2017
Easy to follow instructions, but more clarification on connecting up heat pump installations with Aux Heat strips (orange and white wires) would be GREAT!! Unit works as advertised. Best of all it saved me money!! :)
Perfect for anyone requiring a simple but very effective thermostat.
June 24, 2016
Perfect for my 80 year old mother. When she had her furnace replaced they put on a programmable thermostat. Her original was the old round mercury stat. Well, Too many phone calls " How do you turn the air on" "how do you make it colder" " I can't figure this thing out"Problem solved.10 minutes to remove the programmable, and install this. Super simple replacement. With the few controls, it's PERFECT !!If anyone needs your basic but digital thermostat this is the one!I was surprised that when the temp. was reached, and the outside unit turned off, the fan stayed on for a few minutes to get the most out of the cooling coils while they were still cold!! Awesome !
Very good thermostat, simple to install
April 20, 2016
This thermostat was easy to install for my Gas Heat / Electric AC system. The four colored wires attached to the corresponding terminals and then I followed the simple directions on how to tell the thermostat what type of system I had. If you can read clear instructions, you can install this in ten minutes. My wife has been asking for digital thermostats for some time now - these made her happy. After you install it you do have to hold down two buttons to put it into program mode and then scroll to the number that indicates what system you have. If you are like me, your system is type 0.
Great thermostat!
May 17, 2011
Like others who chose this product, I wanted a simple thermostat sans programmable options. The most important step is to label the wires BEFORE you remove your old thermostat.I would have had this installed in 30 minutes or less except I forgot to charge my battery powered drill! Had a quick snack while giving the battery 30 minutes tp charge. Everything you need is in the box: drywall anchors and screws, AAA batteries for the thermostat and easy instructions to follow. After installation, tested both my AC and heater functions. Thermostat works just like I hoped it would. The only thing is this thermostat is much smaller than the Maple-Chase model that I removed. As a consequence, I'll have to get my paint brush out to paint over the prior footprint that's exposed by this smaller thermostat.I noticed in the instructions that Honeywell sells some kind of back plate for situations like mine. I may check into that and see if that will solve my problem.Great thermostat, easy to install, and works as advertised.

Great thermostat for the price
March 1, 2017
We have huge thermostat problems with our other honeywell one. It burned out within a few months and ruined our transformer twice ($500 later).. So we ended up buying this one because the color set up for the wires was perfect for what we needed. I struggled finding one that had the correct wire codings. This also has a backlight when you press the buttons which is a nice feature. I am happy with my purchase.
It's easy -- It's simplistic
October 8, 2015
This device should be great for a typical household, even though it's next to useless for us (I think).Pros:* If you have a Honeywell unit already -- and they're so common -- installing this takes less than 2 minutes. It comes in 2 parts, front and back. Normally, you'd thread the wires through a hole in the back part, and screw it onto the wall. If you have a Honeywell thermostat already, you may find that the back part of your old thermostat is the same as the new one. I didn't need to screw anything. I know that I should have turned off the power at the circuit breaker, but I didn't touch any wires, and just plugged it in. It worked, immediately. The longest part of installing was putting the back-up batteries in.If you do need installation instructions, they're here: [...]* Programming it is easy. You can do it without looking at the manual, but if you want it, it's online: [...]* There are even EZ instructions that you can print. There's a slot in the thermostat where you can insert them, and slide them out when you want. See: [...]* It includes two AA batteries, which work either to power the unit, or if you're going to use the power from the house, serve as battery backup in case of outage, so your settings don't disappear.Cons:* It assumes a pretty simple schedule. If your people have different sleeping or working schedules, then you won't be able to program all that. This device is too simplistic. What it does allow for are 4 time periods per day: Wake, Leave, Return and Sleep. Those 4 time periods must be identical Monday through Friday. Weekends can be different, but you're still limited to those 4 periods, and Saturday & Sunday must be your weekend (or you'll need to remember that each day shown on screen is really a different day, if your weekend begins on Wednesday, as mine does). Saturday's schedule is the same as Sunday's. So this is a 5-2 programmable, not a 5-1-1.Do most people have a Friday schedule the same as Thursday? Or Sunday night the same as Saturday night? What if you go to some regular event on Wednesdays? Probably I need a Raspberry Pi thermostat that I can design myself. Or a Nest.
It was an easy swap due to prior experience with electronics and thermostats
July 10, 2015
Bought to replace an existing unit. It was an easy swap due to prior experience with electronics and thermostats.Honeywell thermostats usually last quite a while, the previous unit lasted close to 10 years and suffered abuse at the hands of the people living in the apartment unit.Note: The system (cold/off/hot) slider is not meant to be used constantly. You are supposed to use the program and not touch the slider switch. The wear and tear will make it lose contact after a long while.
My first programmable thermostat.
July 14, 2013
This unit does exactly what what I needed. Now inside temperature is always the same as "set temp". It was easy to install and set up and program. Battery power ensures re-setup is not needed after a power outage. This model is economical because it doesn't use wifi or gps. I recommend this model if you don't need a unit that's controllable from a laptop or a smartphone.

Works well. I wish it came with a larger optional baseplate to cover up the holes from the previous thermostat. So other ones on the market do. But as a unit itself, it works great.

Thermostats are great and work as stated
October 13, 2016
Thermostats are great and work as stated. Only issue is the instructions for replacing old ( 25 yr) units. Wire hookup is not clear and it took two calls to Honeywell to get it right. In their defense there are many different types of units and hookups out there so I am sure it is hard to anticipate every possible combination. Overall great units! (I bought 3 for our home)
Works great!
July 22, 2016
This thermostat is working great. It is small and compact which looks nice on the wall and lights up when you need to use it at night. It does have a "click" sound seconds before and after the air comes on and off. I don't mind the click sound and neither does my boyfriend but if you are sensitive to sound you may want to pass on this one. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because of the "click" sound and also it was a pain in the butt to set up. You need a very very SMALL FLATHEAD SCREWDRIVER. We of course did not have one in our home and needed to improvise and ended up having to run to the store and buy one. But once that was done, installation was easy and simple.
Enjoying My AC Sooo Much Better!!!
July 21, 2012
I am very pleased with my new therm so far. I do wish I would have gotten one with bigger readings but I thought this one was pretty big. But once I push buttons and it lights up, I can see the numbers better. And for the price you can't beat it. So overall I can't complain. I probably would have rated it as a 5 if it was bigger but I'm pleased with it. My unit is a 1989 version so I'm truly blessed that we have not had to replace it. My AC was at the point where it wouldn't cut off even when the house would get cold. So I researched on Google and ask why is my AC not turning off and my house is freezing. Well, answer revealed. So I shopped around on amazon and read the reviews as usual and made a decision to go with the Honeywell. We were literally turning our A/c off and on. I knew something was wrong after all of that going on. And besides, Now that I'm older I need to see and know the True temp. So you know how old my thermo was. I really should have relpaced it years ago. I am really enjoying the Honeywell and it's like having a new AC. And now I can see what the temp really is. My husband replaced it with no complains. So far, so good.

Heat turning on 1 hr 32 minutes before schedule time (wake time)
March 26, 2017
Had a heck of a time getting this to actually come on at the scheduled time I have set! It comes on 1 hour and 32 minutes befor my scheduled "wake" time!! I did a lot of searching online and found many people complaining of their "wake" time in their schedules were coming on at times they did not set. Many said it is from the Adaptive Intelligent Recovery turning it on. Well unfortunately their is nothing in the User Manual talking about how to turn off the AIR. I found the installation guide that doesn't come with the unit. Apparently it is only for furnace installers. Anyway, the installer guide shows you how to turn off the AIR. Read the instructions carefully before turning off to make sure you don't change the other settings. I've posted a screenshot of the page referencing the AIR settings.I am giving this a 3 star rating because this information should be readily available to customers. It took me days to figure out why it was turning on outside of the schedule and even longer to find the installation guide so I could turn it off!

November 10, 2015
Thermostat works perfectly, BUT, I bought it to replace a nine year old failed thermostat that looked identical but wasn't. There were meaningless changes to the base-plate; so, I had the unnecessary pain of having to pull the base-plate and rewire it. Note the front of the thermostat was identical to the old one; so, there was no way to tell. Why did Honeywell make the change? Ask them?
Malfunctions, customer service unhelpful
December 10, 2007
Truth: This is about a thermostat in an elderly person's home. I have set it several times in an effort to get it working properly, but it consistently fails. For some reason it turns to the daytime setting in the middle of the night, when it is supposed to be set at 55 degrees. The instruction booklet tells that it will "learn" how long it takes to warm up from the "sleep" to the "wake" temperature, and start the heating cycle earlier by that amount, so that at "wake" time your house is at "wake" temperature. Well, the thermostat seems convinced it needs several hours to warm up, and the thermostat cannot be convinced otherwise. Maybe a hammer would help. I called customer service and was told only the "contractor who installed it" could reset it. So much for customer support based in South Asia.I give it 3 stars because it looks nice on the wall.

This one worked, but noisy.
August 20, 2016
As with most of these I have installed, the instructions left things out a homeowner needs. Ordering is guesswork as to which one to get for your application. The relays click loudly during the night. You would think that these big companies would have heard of solid state relays.
they click
June 30, 2016
I like the way these thermostats look and the ease of operation. But they click every time the air conditioning comes on. Very annoying. If I had known they click I would not have gotten them
Does its job
December 26, 2015
For the price, it certainly works and is simple to use. It feels a little flimsy when installing it (pushing and prying on it getting it on/off mounting bracket).Recently a family member installed a different model that I think I like better than this one that is similarly priced, which is the White-Rodgers Emerson Blue Easy Set Thermostat - 1F86EZ. I like that it is still fairly easy/basic, but has some programmable options.Ideally, I would have liked to have had the older round style, but the newer production versions of those get absolutely horrible reviews so I was afraid to try them. I don't like these push buttons because it seems like you have to push the up/down over and over trying to get it to react, then when it does it goes too far. The round model was such a simple twist.
works fine, but is not automatic
November 19, 2015
has been installed in my house over a year. works fine, but is not automatic, you have to choose heat or cooling and set the temperature, but sometimes manual operation is the best.
Price is right, like the fact that this is not a programmable thermostat as they are a pain in the rear.
August 26, 2014
smaller than replacement thermostat so not disappointed but, the old one was 7 years old and had a different wiring system, Turns out it was not the thermostat totally that caused the issue but it's a good idea to replace them every 5 years. Also have a professional do it and check your system out yearly even if not under warranty.
If your vision is good this should work
August 15, 2014
I bought this for my mother who is in her late 70's. The picture shown is a little misleading. The actual display was not detailed enough for her to see it well. The back light comes on when a button is pressed, so it was very hard for her to see it without pressing a button. If your vision is good this should work. ok. I am still looking for a large detailed display for her limited vision.

Product nice but the display is too small
December 18, 2013
When you get a little more elderly it's a little harder to see the display. I returned this product for that very reason. It looked larger on the website, but when I got it, it was much smaller and harder to read as well. We spent a little more and got a much larger Honeywell Programmable Thermostat and it is much better. It cost me quite a bit more but we are both happy with the larger display and features of the more expensive model.

Returned, would not work on our wiring! Read carefully the description and what wiring it will work on! It said it was a replacement for our old unit, But, we found out, after trying to install and then going to the Honeywell site for help that not all of the 5000 units are the same. Do your homework to avoid a return.
Misleading product description
January 8, 2015
Misleading product description. I bought this thermostat based on the "dual power; batteries or hardware" feature. The "C" terminal requires a 24V AC source; I'm running a 2 wire system , using the "R" and "W" terminal connections. There is no 3rd wire running 24V AC coming the Honeywell boiler controller. Customer Service tells me to get an electrician to come and solve the power problem, BAD ANSWER. The thermostat could/should have been designed internally to power the unit by AC with batteries as a backup option. The thermostat seems to be functioning ok.

Does Honeywell Focus 5000 Non-Programmable Thermostat automatically switch from heat to AC based on temperature setting?
November 23, 2015
This thermostat must have been changed since 2007. I bought it after carefully reading all comments and questions because we needed a thermostat that would switch from heat to cool based on the temperature settings. We have two homes and in the early spring and late fall, we found ourselves having to call our neighbors to move our mode from cool to heat when a freeze was unexpectedly coming, so on the advice of a licensed HVAC contractor in our hometown and a product review written October 13,2007, we ordered this Honeywell model thermostat to solve this problem in our second home. The following October 13, 2007 review is a verified buyer of Honeywell Focuspro 5000 Non_Programmable Thermostat, Sydney L. Lyons that says, "This has changed our life. It is easy to install and easy to use. No more trying to figure out what temperature to keep the house, it does it on its own. You just set a high and a low and it kicks on the heat or the AC. I haven't touched it since I installed it and the house has been at an even temperature, night and day."Well this was exactly what we needed...but not what we got. You cannot, "Just set a high and a low and it kicks on the heat or the AC" I think this featured has been changed or my product is defective. I paid for the thermostat to be installed only to learn it does not have this feature, now I have ordered another thermostat and will have to pay for anther HVAC call.

October 27, 2015
I purchased this thermostat on Amazon in June of 2015. It worked OK in cooling mode but in October of 2015 when I needed heat it was discovered that this thermostat was defective. In Heat mode it caused the fan to run non stop. The service co. ended up replacing it. I could get no help from Amazon and Honeywell is not very customer friendly when it comes to warranty returns. Hopefully I will get an Ok to return it eventually. This is unusual experience for me as I usually like to buy things at Amazon.
