Five Star Reviews: | 78% I am so happy to have purchased these bottles May 14, 2015 I am so happy to have purchased these bottles. I am now into brewing my own ginger ale. One of the recipes uses rose hips and hibiscus flowers which turn the ginger ale a beautiful red! Before this order I used green swing top beer bottles which were perfect but they hid the color. Now I can proudly display my drinks!Yes, the bales are hard to attach at first but I got through it by using a pot holder to push them down. Then, when sealing the bottles I just took my time and applied even pressure. No problems after that.Although I wanted 12 ounce size the 16 ounce will do just fine. It only gives me five bottles of ginger beer per recipe but with continuous brewing it should all work out. Great Bottles! May 10, 2014 These arrived on time, well packaged. I was worried after reading some other reviews about the difficulty of putting the caps on for the first time. (They come unassembled.) I'm a 60 yr old Grandma who doesn't have a lot of strength in my hands. I'm so glad I wasn't put off by other reviews. It took me less than 3 minutes to do all twelve bottles. I bought these to make water kefir. The bottles are heavy and the tops are sturdy. It is a well made product. I've already recommended them to some friends and family. Sturdy bottles April 17, 2014 They are bottles and are exactly what I expected. Assembly was not difficult as many posts describe. Simply place one hook in one of the side holes and pull the other end into the adjacent whole. It takes a little force but generally slid in on its own. I am using these for kombucha. Gets the job done. March 21, 2014 The bottles arrived on time, and in great condition. I bottled my batch without any problems. Closing and opening is a breeze. It's nice to not have to mess with a bottle capper and caps. Finally some bubbles -- lots of bubbles! December 6, 2013 I spent the past two months desperately trying to get kombucha to carbonate. I tried wine bottles using corks and "air-tight" stoppers, reused GT bottles, and mason jars, just as those in the blogosphere had suggested. Nothing worked until I broke down and ordered these. Hallelujah! The kombucha was fizzing over after just one day in secondary fermentation. If you like fizzy tea, these are the way to go. Great Bottles! May 24, 2013 Was looking for 16 oz. glass bottles so I could make homemade soda and tea. These bottles are excellent. They have gone thru many cleaning cycles in our dishwasher and look like new each and every time. I will be ordering more now that I have checked out their reliability. | 80% They seem to work well. October 11, 2017 Excellent bottle caps at an affordable price. You can preserve the oxygen absorbing capacity of the caps by putting them in a ziplock bag (I use the the ziplock freezer bags which are rated for this high of temperature) before adding them to heated water for sterilization. You don't need to bring the water all the way to a boil, just look up some pasteurization temperature time charts. Good bottle caps July 29, 2017 They're good caps. Make a good seal and work as expected. What more can you ask for? Great Frat House GAMES April 8, 2017 I've been snapping these across the frat house and haven't hit a dang thing. Are they faulty? Nope. User error. Turns out these go on the top of bottles. I'm embarrassed. Silver bottling caps - they work fine. Normal size. April 7, 2017 They are beer bottling caps, silver, normal size. |
Four Star Reviews: | 10% Works, hard to figure out at first March 24, 2016 I am updating my review for these bottles. My first review was one star because the lid was so difficult to take on and off and I couldn't figure it out. I emailed the company and they were very responsive and helpful. They attached a YouTube video and it was still difficult to put the lids on, but after my husband helpedMe do it a few times it was much easier. I realize after buying other bottles tho for kombucha brewing that these ones are tight enough to make kombucha fizzy where the other bottles were not. No assembly instructions or help August 21, 2015 Super tight kids as some others had said. The first couple I had to figure out. Broke one in the process. After I figured how to get them on that wasn't a big deal but it will be a tight close for the first couple of uses. Giving four stars because no instructions come to tell you anything about how to assemble. Good for Kombucha, just be aware of cleaning and first tiem closing. June 2, 2015 Was unsure when buying these if they'd be good, but I needed air-tight bottles for my kombucha so I went for it. I didn't have a problem attaching the lids to the bottles, but CLOSING them was another story. They were very resistant to closing, I had my boyfriend do half of them since my hands were raw from the first half. Good news is, once you've closed them once, they become infinitely easier to close in the future. So now I have no issue with them. Please note, these bottles aren't easy to clean. I bought the "Casabella 20530 Soft Tip Brushes, Set of 3," from Amazon a couple weeks later in order to be able to clean them better. The smallest brush does the trick! They are airtight though, and glass, so if you need good bottles for storing your kombucha these really are a good idea to get. Every time I open a new bottle after the second ferment, it pops like a champagne cork. Some of my co-workers are certain that I'm getting drunk in my cubicle everyday.. lol. Easy to Assemble; Hard to Close April 11, 2015 The bottles do not come preassembled, but the tops are actually very easy to put on. Just make sure you place it with the loop facing down rather than up. It's closing the bottle that is quite difficult. I suggest closing it with a towel to not hurt your fingers. That being said, it creates a very tight seal. This is perfect to bottle personal sized beer (or in my case kombucha tea). Good bottles October 7, 2013 These bottles are good quality but I wish they were a bit cheaper. They do come with the swing tops off thus requiring the purchaser to put them on. However, they are not that difficult to pop on. If you slide one prong in with the cap on top of the bottle you can simplly push the other prong into the final hole. Total assembly time took less than ten minutes for 12 bottles. swing cap bottles October 29, 2012 Great for bottling kombucha. These bottles create a tight seal, which is necessary for the fermentation process. The tops are not pre-assembled, which is a slight drawback if you haven't put them together before. | 13% Four Stars February 21, 2017 Good bottles. Handle sharpies for dates well. Currently using it for kombucha. non O2 absorbing caps are equally as good for someone considering dipping caps in a sanitzing solution ... April 5, 2016 Caps does what is designed to do. Keeps the CO2 tight and leak free upon capping for prolonged period of time. Only reason i gave 4 start is that i recently read from a some article advising that O2 absorbing caps works as claimed; but, that capcity only lasts very briefly. By the time caps are sanitized (soaked in sanitize solution), O2 aborbing function is far gone when it's time for capping. So, non O2 absorbing caps are equally as good for someone considering dipping caps in a sanitzing solution prior to capping to save some $$. Good caps. Been using these for a good while July 27, 2015 Good caps. Been using these for a good while. Perfect for my porters, stouts, and barley wines. Always have them on hand. |
Three Star Reviews: | 4% Very difficult to close January 11, 2017 I just bought these because I had purchased another set (different company) and loved how they helped retain the carbonation of Kombucha. Those came already assembled. I wanted to save a few dollars and bought these. They assemble easy enough but so difficult to close that I am sending them back. Disappointed because these are great bottles. Swing Top Bottles August 23, 2016 Two cases were ordered and received. There was one broken bottle in each carton.UPS held this order up in Bangkok and I had to register as an importer with the customs office. I have imported a number of items and have never had this issue. Good bottles, flip tops hard to open, expensive. June 10, 2016 Great bottles, I just thought they were pretty expensive for what they are, over $2 a bottle? I bought the Starbucks Mocha drinks in glass bottles with reuseable lids for just over $1 apiece, and we got the benefit of the drink! They are really hard to get open too, the flip tops are very snug. These are great bottles, but i can only give 3 stars ... December 22, 2015 These are great bottles, but i can only give 3 stars because they are VERY difficult to open and close especially at first. I usually cannot open them myself and at first I could not even close them! They do get easier the more you use them though. I use them for Kombucha. Not for highly carbonated beverages. September 1, 2015 I purchased these bottles for my ginger beer. I have been making this same recipe for over 30 years, so I am very familiar with it and its properties. So far I have had 3 bottles explode and shatter before the bail tops failed. This says to me that the bail tops are too strong. I would rather lose 3 bottles of ginger beer than have flying glass all over. Not only am I losing a lot of product, I am risking injury even moving them from the cellar to the frig. I have since placed them in a cooler with ice (in the cellar) and another one exploded before I got upstairs. I would not recommend these bottles for anything that has a lot of natural carbonation. I am afraid to even attempt to open one and will probably end up chucking the bottles. I usually use taller bottles that sparkling lemonade comes in, but I was out of them and needed a good substitute, unfortunately these don't fill the bill. Disappointed to find that the what caps are plastic July 11, 2015 Rec'd 12 clear bottles and all parts, well packaged, all intact. Disappointed to find that the what caps are plastic, not ceramic - that info shows up in the Q&A, not product description. Soaked everything in 10% white vinegar/water solution before bottling my kombucha and found that the metal parts had oxidized and I had black on my hands and thus the caps. Not happy. Will keep the bottles and look for higher quality replacements for cap assembly. | 5% Nothing wrong with the caps. The problem is with ... May 5, 2017 Nothing wrong with the caps. The problem is with the description. Original labeling on package says oxygen barrier crown caps which is a lot different than the re -labeling which says oxygen absorbing. Received caps and they appear okay, but the bag ... December 19, 2016 Received caps and they appear okay, but the bag was open and caps were floating around in the packaging container. I bought these as a gift, so I hope they can be sterilized without issue, but I would have expected the bag to be sealed. These work fine but tend to rust quickly if not dried after ... June 13, 2016 These work fine but tend to rust quickly if not dried after sanitizing. I left them sit overnight without drying them off and they all rusted around the edges. First time I've had bottle caps do that. Silver and gold..... April 23, 2015 These are good caps. Work well and in good shape. However was diisapointed when I ordered gold and got silver. |
Two Star Reviews: | 3% The caps were too tight. Always had fear of ... March 2, 2017 The caps were too tight. Always had fear of breaking the bottle due to pressure build while trying to open it. Returned it and bought bottles from Ikea. Sometimes You Just Can't Win August 25, 2016 First you have to figure out how to get the lid on the bottle - they are not attached when you get them. Then you you figure out the right way to put the lid on after doing it wrong twice in a row. Once I got the lids on correctly, I found out that they close so tight and the wire loop is so close to the bottle that I can't open them without prying with a butter knife. I'm sending these back and trying again with a different manufacturer. The actual product is great though. Best you can have for kombucha bottling March 5, 2016 Had a lot of trouble with these bottles. Had to receive 3 replacements just to make a full set, between broken bottles and missing caps. The actual product is great though. Best you can have for kombucha bottling. Not enough caps for each bottle. December 15, 2015 Bottles were perfect and after a bit of struggle got the caps on correctly. However my order was missing caps so I couldn't utilize all the bottles. So disappointed. 12 bottles and only 8 caps. And no way to get just the caps. Had to scrap order and reorder elsewhere. One bottle was broken upon delivery and I have never ... November 25, 2015 One bottle was broken upon delivery and I have never gotten a reply about it when I told them. Also the lids are hard to get on and it takes strong hands, hard to do with arthritis. fairly hard to close but I suppose that's a good seal. April 16, 2015 The bottles are brown, not clear. I assume some sort of mixup but I needed to bottle something ASAP so I don't have time to return them. Decent bottles though, fairly hard to close but I suppose that's a good seal. | 1% Caps work great but package was short about 40 caps August 23, 2016 Caps work very well and seal nicely. My first round of bottling I capped 59 bottles. After washing my bottles I took a look at my cap stash and thought I should count them before I get started. Only 40 caps remained but I had only used roughly 60 of them. My package was missing about 40 bottle caps. Holes in the bag July 28, 2014 The caps were good, but there were many holes in the bag they arrived in, so whatever "oxygen-absorbing" power they had was long gone by the time I got them. |
One Star Reviews: | 5% HORRIBLE and PAINFUL to USE! April 17, 2017 Horrible bottles! I bought the more expensive bottles assuming I wouldn't have issues with the caps as others had mentioned with other bottles makers. These flip top bottles are almost impossible to open and close, its actually painful on finger tips and feels like the bottle is going to shatter. I would recommend to pass on these. DO not BUY! Knock-off to EZ Cap Bottles. Not for home brew! March 29, 2016 These aren't EZ Cap bottles. They are knock-off, and they are of much less quality. The differences from EZ Cap to these bottles: 1) not branded EZ Cap 2) different color cap (orange, not red) 3) thinner and lighter (three were broken upon delivery) 4) caps don't stay on all the time.I can see using these bottles for one-time use, but they clearly aren't made for multi-use and kombucha home brew. I really wanted to like these bottles March 18, 2016 I really wanted to like these bottles. The tops came in a separate baggie, but no instructions. My husband and I both watched their video on youtube several times and still couldn't figure out the tops and how to put them on. We got one on, but it was very hard and I couldn't get it off. My husband had to use a wrench to get it off. The thought of having my Kombucha in a bottle like that which would require me to use a tool and wrestle with the bottle to get the top off, just didn't appeal to me. We even called the company and the guy was very nice on the phone and tried to explain it to us (we are college educated and intelligent people, by the way) but it was very confusing. The tops are very, very hard to put on, and a bottle once the top is on, is very, very hard to open. So, sorry to say...sending them back. Not recommended March 18, 2016 Our 1st order of these types of bottles came from another company on amazon and the 6 bottles and caps are great and the lids come off very easily, you could do it with one hand. We needed more and saw these bottles from this company as a 12 pack so we went with these. Bad idea. The bottles are fine but the lids are absolutely horrible. Once we put the lids on we couldn't get the lids to even budge to get them off. I waited for my husband to get home to see if he could get the lid off and he cannot get them off either. After a huge struggle he got one lid off out of 12. I would not reccommemd these bottles since the lids are just horrible and it will cost you more money in the long run having to buy lids separately or for us, we are out of the bottles, lids and drink we put in them in since we cannot get the lids off. Broken glass September 10, 2015 My first case was perfect, great for kombucha, I then ordered two more cases and they both came with broken bottles and loose broken glass all over the carton. I gave up ordering these again. Very Hard to Close the Caps April 8, 2015 I don't mind having to assemble the caps onto the bottles, but it is next to impossible close the caps on the bottles. I've only been able to get one closed so far, and when I tried to open it, the bottle shot out of my hands- luckily it was empty. The bottle itself seems to be good quality, but I wish the caps were easier to get on and off. I am in my mid 30s, in good health. I do not have frail hands by any means.1 star because they are basically useless if I can't get the caps to close. | 1% So far, no good October 8, 2017 First time I have ever had a bottle break happened while using these caps. They just don't seem to fit correctly. As of now, not a single bottle has carbonated with these caps on them. Others from the same batch have, underolder caps I had laying around. |
