Awesome pump! So much quieter than the old Mustang pump that finally bit the dust last year (bearings were seizing up). Seems to work great and my father and I were able to install it and save a lot of cash. Now all my pool equipment is Pentair and I couldn't be happier. Highly recommend!

The best part of this item is the screw in unions. It is almost like a USB Plug-N-Play if one was installed previously. There are 2 things to remember on the change out, The first is to replace the o-rings on the old unions. I did not cut off the old unions, I just replaced the o-rings. The second is to fill the bowl on the new pump with water to create the vacuum to pull the water.

Easy to install. The fittings were all standard sizes which allowed me to replace my pipes with Home Depot PVC, primer and glue. They provided screw / thread attachments that mated right up with the 2 inch PVC. The 110VAC connections were easy to get to and the additional ground post was also easy to attach.
The new variable speed pumps cost a lot more and I can't imagine saving a lot of electricity with them. I only spend about $12 a month extra running this pump on my 20,000 gallon salt water pool.

I originally had a Pentair for 11 years before it finally died. It was a good pump. I bought a cheaper pump to replace it thinking I would save money. I soon went back to the Pentair. This pump. What a difference. There is no comparison. This pump has a smaller motor and moves double the water of the cheaper one I tried. It is very quiet and a workhorse. It is just a great quality product. You cant go wrong with this pump.

VERY, VERY quiet!!! The old Hayward sounded like a fork is grinding in the kitchen sink garbage disposer! Also COOL! The Hayward it replaced could easily fry bacon on the case! This pump is VERY efficient. The 1 (ONE) horsepower Hayward consumed 7 Amps @ 240Volts whereas the 1-1/2 HP Pentair uses about 8 Amps @240 Volts - 1-1/2 Horsepower!!

The screw on 'slip' fittings were extreamly helpful as I had to remove the pump to clear the main drain (debris settled to the bottom of the pool and got sucked in). The pump was out and back in in minutes.

The pump easily primes and it is nice to see the pool side jets streaming out volumes of clean water.

This product is appropriately named...super. The pump is quiet running, efficient, and was a drop-in replacement for my previous Sta-Rite pump. I appreciate the easy cleaning feature of the strainer basket. No more straining to remove a screw on cover that has a mind of it's own.

Ok, so after replacing my in ground pool pump year after year with a knock off brand I finally decided to buy the best and.... done!Preforms prefect with minimal noise.A definite buy!

Saved a ton of money. Needed a pool pump replacement. Checked pool store prices. Cringe.

We have three of this same pump running 24/7 in our lobster tank, they usually go for about 2-5 years before the pump breaks down. And for this price you can't go wrong.

I have an in-ground 18x36 pool, and the original pump and impeller took a nosedive this year, after 32 years of dedicated, quiet service. Time for a new pump and motor system. I ordered this one as it matched the existing system. The pump actually looked unused and new, in very good condition. Manuals are easily available online. Installing the new pump was fairly straightforward. The original pump was a 230 hookup, and we didn't have to change a thing. I know pools very well, but I am no electrician or mechanic. But the process of removing the old pump and installing this new one (again, using the downloaded manuals and several online videos found at YouTube), went very smoothly.Once installed, and plumbing connections fitted, this pump immediately impressed us. We pre-primed by filling the intake lines and pump, and fired it up. Quiet, smooth operation from the get-go! We have about an 8 foot lift from the bottom of the pool, and this pump worked flawlessly to get the water flowing very,very quickly. It is quiet as a church-mouse (compared to the old pump on it's last legs - screaming like a banshee, bad bearings and seals). It's been running a few days now 24/7, and works wonderfully.(Just to be clear, part of this review, which was how the pump was delivered, was rejected by Amazon, and I will have to refile it under another heading. But I do think it is relevant here, so Amazon, if a human reads this, you should allow all reviews - seller, delivery, packaging, here).The packaging scared me, but the pump delivered! I highly recommend this pump.

Very Good Pump. Quiet and easy replacement for old pump. I am running it on 110V and it was easy to convert from 220V.After the initial filling with water to prime it, It has never lost suction even when attaching a vacuum hose.I would definitely buy it again.

First pump I received leaked. Amazon took that pump back and sent another unit immediately. For the last six days the new pump has performed well and hasn't leaked. Runs quite.

Hookup was a breeze, just make sure the rubber gaskets are in the groove before tightening the final quarter turn. Replaced an old Pentair 1.5HP pump. This one is about as loud as that one, but this model is easier to get to the skimmer basket with just a quick quarter turn. Once you turn it in, check for leaks, I had to adjust the top fitting and after that it didn't leak.

Works as expected and had a slightly better price than local home improvement stores even with the shipping. Pentair has been in the pool business for many years and is a trusted name brand for their equipment. The almond color is better looking than the standard black pumps since its seen near our pool.

I bought this to replace my 1 HP version of the same model. I was pricing out just buying the motor, but came to the conclusion that after all of the seals/parts it would be more expensive to buy them separate. I also wanted to increase the HP, as the 1 HP version wasn't giving me enough suction when using the skimmer and dedicated cleaning port together. I have had this running for about 2 months now (8 hours/day) and haven't had any issues. The thing is very noisy though, which is why I gave it 4 stars. I live in Arizona and we are just starting out the summer season. This unit will see 10-12 hour days during the peak of this summer. I will report back if any issues happen during the true test.

This was exactly what I needed and installation was a breeze - as long as you have some plumbing experience.
Keep in mind - these motors are shipped from the factory set to the 220volt setting so be sure to switch it for a 110volt install. Also, this pump is actually attached to a removable base which is awesome. I separated the pump from the base and installed the base first so I could line it up with my existing mounting bolts. After that, the pump slipped right into the base and screwed down. Good job, Pentair.

I bought this as a direct replacement for the pump/motor installed when my pool was built 3 years ago. The original equipment began to leak a year ago and I had to install a new seal around the drive shaft extending into the pump. Then, this year, the motor just quit. (Not happy with the durability of these components, but I decided to buy the same thing so I did not have to do extensive re-plumbing).So far, everything is running and working well. The wiring instructions are a little confusing, but I figured it out. We'll see how long this stuff works, this round.

This is my second pool season with this pump (bought June 10, 2016) and a leak has already started to develop from underneath the pump itself. My old Jacuzzi Magnum 1000 pump lasted over 15 years and now I have to deal with this after 1 year. Updated review as of 8/4/2017. Hayward does stand behind there products and being that I work in a manufacturing setting myself, I understand that there will be a small percentage of defects. They replaced the defective pump with a working one.

Haven't hooked it up yet due to weather, design is great on the basket, looking forward to getting it installed. I have all the pieces, just need to measure and put the pipe together.

4 stars because it is a great product. Minus one star because it lacked documentation. Beware. If you install it yourself buy a roll of Oatey1/2 in. x 260 in. Yellow PTFE gas pipe Tape at Home Depot. Use PVC threaded connector, paint threads with purple PVC cleaner, wrap 3 layers of Yellow gas pipe tape on the threads. Screw the PVC threads into the Pump, hand tighten. You will not have any leaks. It took me three tries before I found out about Oatey. Now you can do it on the first try.

So far so good. After reading some peoples reviews suggesting pump was loud, I'm very happy to say I can hear my neighbors (about 60 feet away) over the Hayward SP 1Hp. When they're pump turns off mine is just a small under tone that is pretty much unnoticed. My only dislike is the knobs holding the plexi glass view window in place. I feel like they could break off pretty easy and may not last. Other than that I'm a happy customer. I will give another review after its had more run time.

Ok fairly easy to install and very quiet but not as powerful as the 1 1/2 hp. Haywood that it replaced!

this is the second pump I have purchased in 3yrs.

lasted only 2 years and 8 mnths. then the bearing went bad, have to replace it.

I bought this pump as a replacement for the previous pump which had been working great for the past 15 years. 14 months after installing the pump (2 months out of warranty) and having no problems with it I began having prime problems due to air which of course affected the suction. I went through all the trouble shooting looking for a small air leak, tightened valves, changed 'O' rings, backwashed several time then finally checked volts...and there it was!

Hopefully I just got a faulty pump otherwise up until this issue the pump worked great and I was very happy with it. Problem now is do I reorder this pump or try another brand? I am not happy about having to spend the money again for this item :(

Received the pump 1 day early which was a great plus. It looks good and installation was not a big deal. So far the pump seems to push the water through just fine. My complaint is the noise. I was expecting a quiet pump but this thing is not only noisier than my old pump it actually sounds like something is rattling. Will have to see how long it will last before giving a negative review.

Works better than our 14byear old pump but was hoping it would be much quieter and it's not.

Pump #1 was JUNK. Had to argue with the Amazon representative to get a new one shipped in the same manner. After w-a-y too long on the phone, the representative relented. Pump #2 was perfect. My pool is happy again.

This pump is top rated however after just 2 years the pump housing is leaking. I had it professionally installed and was not expecting a failure with just a couple years of normal use.

I replaced my 7-year-old pump (same model and manufacturer) with this one, and it works fine. I ran the old one 24-7 for about 7 months out of the year and the motor bearings first started making a noise and then about a week later it seized up. But I did get 7 years out of it so that is okay given the amount of use.

Not nearly as quiet as the pump it replaced, american products Ultraflow with 2" fittings. I would have paid more to have a quieter pump but the other reviews swayed me.Running fine for a month but since last pump ran for 20 years with 1 motor replacement its too soon to form an opinion. It works okay but not a fully satisfying purchase.

I was happy to get this pump through Amazon. When the last pump I had broke (again), I checked online pool supply places, and they were all the same price or more expensive than Amazon. I already had a Prime account, so the free 2-day shipping made this the smartest choice by far.Unfortunately, it's still the same exact pump I replaced, and these things seem to be having longevity issues. I probably get 2 to 3 years out of each one, which is just terrible. I'm not sure if the winter weather is causing issues, but I'm thinking of developing a quick-connect system for the power line, so that I can take the whole magilla out of the weather when I close the pool.

Ran great for 12 months. Starter cellanoid just died after exactly one year of use 4 hours per day. Disappointed.

I bought this pump with a 11/2 hp motor to replace my old Jacuzzi which was approx. the same size and hp. It is my opinion that this pump should not be sold with the 11/2 hp motor as it does not have enough lift. This pump will probably work where only slight lift is required. I don't think the 11/2 hp motor does anything to boost performance..

Runs very quietly and is very well made. Was easy to install. Best part of buying on Amazon is we saved $140.00 over the local pool store price. Very, very satisfied. Bought this in April of 2014 and it died today...you decide if you want this...going to buy a Hayward from now on...seems the pump should last more than a year and a half.

This pump is an exact Hp model replacement for what I had, however the flow seems to be decreased for some reason. The only difference is this is the whisperflo model. I believe the GPF is reduced to create the quieter sounds. I would jump up a .5 hp to account for the difference.

Easy to hookup, did the job of filtering the water, but it is leaking water between the pump and the motor.This causes me to have to run the pump 24 hours a day, running the power bill up.If i set the timer for ten hours, the pump goes off, the water leaks out of the bowl.When the pump comes back on after being off for a length of time, no water in pump bowl, so it will not prime.No cooling will
cause the bearing to over heat.Back to a Super Pump.

noisy from day one, does not look as it is going to last long

This will be our third pump in 5 years all Hayward all this model. Very frustrating. Our most recent purchase was May 2015. We have never gotten more than 2 years out of our pump. Unfortunately, if you have a pool company come to install the exact same product it is more than double. We will try to contact Hayward with our 3rd pump failure.

The pump worked great until the 366th day! It started leaking from around the gasket between the motor and the strainer.

already has a squeal to it. The first one quit in three years and this one started having problems before the warrant was up. called hayward and of course they said to have a person come out. well, that is about 200 hundred bucks for the visit, might as well by another pump.

Had problems with it after only a couple years. I would up having to replace it completely. It should have lasted longer.

This is my third Hayward. Pump in the last few years. They last a couple of years then the motor goes. At one time they were made in the USA and lasted many years. Now they are made in China and break. I would try something different except my pool fixtures are set to the intake for this pump. A not satisfied customer.

I purchased this pump in april 2017 didn't istall it until end of may. Once installed it wouldn't start it sounded as if was binding and 9 times out of10 would kick out the thermo breaker. Which is internal. Called amazon and because it was beyond 30 days I couldn't return it. I called pentair and they never got back to me. Will never buy pentair agian.

From the photos attached, you can see a Century motor labeled as model 196239 is clearly a 1 HP motor. Pentair labels this 1 HP motor as 1.5 HP with a service factor of 1.1 to bring it to 1.65 HP.

This is a 1 HP motor paired to a 1.5 HP impeller to give it the flow of a 1.5 HP pump.

Used a total of about 4 months (3 months one summer, 1 month the next) and motor has burned out. Would not purchase again.

Pump arrived with no instructions and in a beat up box. I was wondering if it was refurbished (?). After changing out a few PVC parts to fit the new motor, it turned out to be a dud. The motor did not work. I got a lemon.

Stop working less then a week, I will never by Pentair products in my life, never again , no warranty , worthless motor. Pentair Rep put me on hold for 10 minutes then hang up the phone,It's a scamming company , don't be a fool, use your money wise and elsewhere.

Wanted to replace my 9 year old super pump that was spitting water, found that the replacement pump's water inflow port was milled off center.At first did not know where all the air was coming from, very time consuming and frustrating. Sent that pump back, the second replacement pump had the same problem. Finally I ordered a new motor and rebuilt the pump. Results- works perfectly I am Happy now, less than 1/2 the price for replacements parts.

Only has lasted me a little over a year. The bearings in the motor started screaming today. If I can get the company's help to fix I will update with a better review.

Poor design any designer knows you don't make rectangle seals they leak, if you need replacement parts you can't fix it yourself, you will need to buy special parts from HaywardAlso the sealing screws are anchored in plastic swivel nuts which are easy to snapin summary very poor design and cheap parts make this a waste of money

Just bought and installed myself a new Hayward Super Pump 2hp. I consider myself a very mechanically inclined as I have work in the construction field doing HVAC and now been working in a steel mill as an industrial electrician for the past 24 years. My new Hayward pumps strainer basket lid does not seal tight no matter what I try to fix it. This is a brand new pump and appears to have no defects. The pumps draws air into the system while it is running and when the pump shuts off it spits out water from the between the pump and lid. I have removed, inspected and reinstalled the rubber seal. I have also tried adjusting the tightness of the lid. Nothing works. Very discuraging. Can anyone help me with stopping this leaking lid. Please contact me at Frank693838@yahoo.com

Manufacturer will not honor warranty for items not installed by a dealer. I purchased on August 21, 2015. Pump ran fine for 2 months, then suddenly the motor shot and burned up.They will not honor the warranty as I hooked up the two wires and not a dealer. Buyer be ware, buy from dealer or another brand, customer service is non existent.

I have replaced this pump 5 times in the last 18 years that I have had my in ground pool. The last one I bought lasted less than 7 months and I have hade qualified pool service people look at it. I was told not to buy this pump anymore. I'm hoping I will get a replacement or some type of justification just by buying so many pumps. WE'LL SEE. M. J. Hall
