The lid can easily be opened without using the foot pedal. I like this because if I am sitting at my desk, I can lean over, flip up the lid with my hand, and deposit my trash. If you have a pet, this could be a big negative point, though.Overall, this has been a sturdy dependable trash can, and the removable interior canister has made cleaning and emptying it a breeze.

This fits well in my tiny WC with the litter box. The lids seals well and keeps the odor in. The plastic is heavy enough to keep the can steady when stepping on the pedal to raise the lid. Pedal is good quality too. Nothing flimsy. I wanted a handle on the inner liner but it's easy to lift out and carry when full. I just wipe it out with a paper towel after emptying and sprinkle in scented baking soda. Great alternative to using plastic bags.

Not as translucent as it appears in photo, but just what I wanted, more of a satiny eggshell color. Perfect for my tiny half-bath.

Great. Doesn't tip over with your foot on it, feels very stable, for a plastic trash can it looks attractive and fits perfectly in my bathroom. Operates comfortably and smoothly.The bags tuck easily inside which makes it look way better than when you can see the bag.

Love it so so so so much! Perfect in my small bathroom next to the toilet. It's so compact, simple design and high quality. I would usually buy the ones at Home Goods that look good but man, they are clumsy and loud. This one is quiet and simple and great

I wish we had bought this trash can earlier. We have a ton of simplehuman products and all of them are great. We wanted an all plastic trash can, fairly small, foot pedal, inner liner, and black. This checks all our boxes. It is the perfect size for a bedroom or living room, the inner liner is removable so it doesn't need a bag and can be washed out easily, it doesn't register fingerprints on the matte black, and it won't dent like the metal cans.

Neat, attractive trash can for a small bathroom space. I had hoped it would keep my small but determined dog out of the bathroom trash -- unfortunately, it does not.I wish simplehuman would make a tiny version of their butterfly lid trash can (which does keep my dog out) for the bathroom.

I should have paid more attention to the size. It's a great high quality model, just a bit small for the bathroom.

I use this in my home office to handle used K-Cups and general office-kitchen trash. Works fine, correct-sized bags aren't easy to find, though.

This is a pretty small trash can, but it's fine for my bathroom where I keep a litter box and don't want the cat getting in the trash. It's easy to open, the can stays in place when you step on the pedal, and it closes tight. I was a little hesitant to buy it because some people wrote that they received cracked or damaged cans. but mine was packed reasonably well and was in good condition.

I bought this for a spare trash can for diapers. I do wish it was bigger! A plastic bag fits in just fine, but it only holds about 6-8 newborn diapers so we are changing it out daily. Not the biggest deal since I wouldn't want dirty diapers sitting in any trash can for too long. It is a well made trash can. The foot pedal works great and doesn't slide around on our wood floor when used. It would probably work great for in a bathroom, just not so much for diapers if you don't want to change it daily.

I ordered this trash can to use in the nursery. I expected the lid to stay open if you push back on the lid (like all other trash cans I've ever seen like this). Also the lid did not close all the way leaving a gap for odors to be able to get out of the can. Returning and now looking for another can that would be more suitable. If you aren't looking for either of those qualities, it's a decent trash can for the price.

This is an inexpensive product and seemed to be just what I was searching for. It is a good-looking, easy to clean, non-rusting trash can and the lid operates well with its step-on feature. It is a perfect size for a garbage can for fruit and veggie waste for a small family. However, the handhold part of the lid is made so that it leaves an opening for fruit flies to swarm right on in and odors to waft right on out. This does not make for a happy kitchen experience.With a slight redesign to close that gap it would be my heart's desire.

I'm writing this review after four and a half years of owning one of these in the black color. I feel that's definitely more than enough time to give a thorough review for those who are meticulous about details, even after seeing something in the store.Pros:-Perfect bathroom size, and I used nothing but plastic bags from various stores as liners for this particular trash can. The semi-oval shape is particular good for plastic shopping bags. I, however, don't really care if the bag's sticking out at the top. I did try to tuck it in a bit, but it still showed. Not a big deal for me personally, though.-Pretty small footprint, but still held plenty of my bathroom garbage so that I wasn't constantly changing the bag. I am only one person, though!-The price was good, from what I can recall. I paid around $15 for this at a typical big box store. Keep in mind it was four and a half years ago!Cons:-The big, raised "SimpleHuman" logo on the top collects a lot of dust, and is hard to clean. In fact, the black color shows dust and water stains (I kept mine next to the sink, so it did get lots of drops on it) very quickly and easily. Not a huge deal, but you do have to wipe it clean often if you want that "clean" look. The bathroom is often the dustiest place in any abode, though, if you have a fan in the ceiling like I do.-The reason why I'm writing this review after four and a half years is because mine just broke after all that time! The can is completely made of plastic, INCLUDING the entire hinge mechanism, so definitely keep that in mind when buying. The flimsiest part of the plastic hinge broke on me, so the foot pedal no longer works and I had to physically lift the lid with my hands in order to use it.-The lid doesn't stay open unless you hold the pedal down or use something to prop it up. See above "con".I did replace this model with another Simple Human model (the 4.5L fingerprint-proof stainless steel round version), so I do believe in the company's quality, despite this particular model breaking on me. To its credit and the company's credit, it did take 4/5 years of pretty heavy use from me before it broke. This would probably be best for a half bathroom, or a guest bathroom? Still, if you are looking for longevity and better construction, try the small stainless steel models. The lever/pedal mechanisms are made from metal and those cans come with 10-year warranties, which is why I went with Simple Human again. It also solved most of the "cons" on my list (including a logo-free top!).

The lid of this trashcan has already broken off, which having a lid is the reason we purchased this specific item.

Was disappointed. The lid does not clasp shut and is easy for our dogs and cat to get into.

Even with using bags it's developed a mildew smell. I throw away lightly dampened paper towels after cleaning the bathroom mirror and sink, but the can must be sealed tight because it seems like it traps the moisture inside. It's a strange issue to have.

Seems like a quality item but arrived damaged. Nothing wrong with the box, but the lid and hinge section are broken. Not worth the postage or trip to the post office to return.

Smaller than I expected. This item is of poor quality. As soon as I received it the metallic cover on the foot pedal came apart from its plastic base.

This garbage can will barely fit a napkin. i wanted a small can for our guest bathroom but this is so tiny, you will have to replace the garbage bag every 2 hours how quickly it will fill up. better off getting a large size

Super small waste can, had to replace and get lids, as dog keeps getting in them..

It's too small for wipes & diapers for a newborn. I have to dump it out two to three times a day.

Arrived broken, and it was apparent that even if it hadn't, it wouldn't have lasted long. Returned it and bought the slightly more expensive metal version which is a big jump in quality.

Top does not fit properly on the base, step does not work to lift lid. Total trash.

I took it out of the package, stepped on the pedal and the lid broke right off. There's a TINY piece of plastic on the lid that a screw goes into that holds the whole thing together. Breathe on this wrong and it's broken. Total junk, and it cost about as much as metal cans.
