got this for a gift, they set it up and absolutely loved it!!

It works great, image much clear than my last security system.

system was easy to install, quality pictures, easy to use. Only concern was one camera stopped working after almost a year, otherwise the other 7 are doing good.

I was really impressed with this system. Setup was simple and the picture quality is great. I was so happy with the first one that I bought a second DVR for another property we own. You can't beat this system for the price and quality. The only negative that I can give it is that there is no wireless connection but, it has an Ethernet connection so you can plug it into your home network. I use Logmein for my remote connection to my home laptop and can view my cameras from anywhere. The picture from the cameras is excellent and playback is very good as well. I would recommend this to anyone that wants a simple camera system that comes with everything you need and is very easy to use.

This is the only one I found that has a hard drive installed that is the main reason I ordered this item. I have been using it for about 2 weeks and I love it. This picture is clear and good as long as it is not to far away. The same goes for the night vision. Excellent. I loved the fact the cords are labeled so you know for a fact what end goes to the camera and what end goes to the DVR. I love the way the cords are wrapped around a piece of plastic. This makes it alot easier to handle. The down side to this is the cords where wrapped the wrong way. I had to unwrap 2 of the cords. That was a pain. It is everything it said it would be. If I had to complain about one thing it would be the cameras. I do get a great clear picture for about a quarter of the length of my home. After that it does not do so good. The cameras can not even view the length of my home. I do not own a mansion, just a four bed home. I was really hoping the cameras would do better. However, this is an eight channel DVR so I will have to buy more cameras. At least 2 more to fix the problem I am having. Maybe that is why the cameras are the way they are.

This thing is great. After setting this thing up, which took about 5 seconds, I'm just wondering why I didin't get it earlier.
The only issue that I had was right out of the box. I wasn't getting any video out of the HDMI out for some reason. Luckily, I had a spare monitor with a VGA slot; after that haven't a problem yet.
The interface to watch what was recorded is a little confusing but not complicating.
The video from the cameras is live with no, or very little lag. We also have Sony's SNC-RZ30n PTZ network cameras, and these cameras rival the sony's as far as quality.

All in all, even with the confusing instruction manual, I still give this a 5 star rating just for the price.

Very surprised about this item. The price was so low I expected very little at all. To my delight, the quality of the picture was very good. Did not want the ability to read the book some one is holding in my yard, just wanted to be able to see what I needed to be safe and make sure my wife is safe in our home when I am away. I can see clearly every access to my house and my back yard with tons of storage space on the hard drive I assure you I could identify anyone that threatens my security with this device. It's night time ability is better than expected.
It is not a $2,000,00 security unit. I looked at those also. It is, though, worth much more than I paid for it.
Yes..5 STARS. Five stars for ROI (Return On Investment). I have seen several post on how the instructions are lacking. I Don't get that. A monkey with a stick could hook this up and if it is beyond you learning curve, hire a monkey with a stick and your still way/way ahead.

Really like system. Purchased this system after lightning storm shorted out out previous ststem,. Would have rated @ 5' but system was extremely difficult to set up with xfinity so that we could view on android smartphones. The CMS 2000 program supplied with kit works on computers,but not able to connect using cloud based program on disk. After much trial& error finally able to view system via smartphone using IP Can viewer basic software for android. I purchased the basic version for small fee. Camera make identified as"IPS";Model "IPS N812"; Host/IP "use WAN address for modem/router". I used TCP port "8000". Also, you have to set up each camera separately. I also ran cat 5 cable from DVR to Ethernet port on my modem/router; don't have to bridge modem/router. Hope this helps someone else.As stated earlier, great unit with super clear video in all formats. Easy to set up unit, (poorly written instructions).tpicture from this camera much better quality than previous system. Would buy again now that I worked out android enigma. Guess I like a challenge.

could use better instruction manual

I have this system in my house and I'm very satisfied with it for the low price of it. I install cameras for a living in commercial building that are VERY expensive so I know what good quality looks like.
My only question is with the IPhone App, I was able to view the cameras remotely for a while and now the app just keeps saying buffering and won't display anything. Can anyone help me out?

The system works well without input from the user. I give this product 4 out of 5 because the cameras that ship with the system are of poor quality as compared to others that are on the market for around the same price. The infra-red don't seem to work because as soon as it gets dark outside, the video goes pitch black. I bought 4 other cameras that I use with the DVR and they show good quality video in the dark as compared to the ones ship with the product.

For the money this is a good system, Cameras work great in daylight and fair in dark, the translation from Chinese to English in programing can be a little difficult to understand on some functions but I have got the basics down. The remote viewing from IPhone works good for basic viewing, I also haven't been able to figure out how to get the motion alerts to notify me. And I still haven't been able to download the program to my laptop and I can't find a help to get it downloaded.

How can I see the recording of the 4 channels, because i just can see the recording of channel 1

Hey my name is miguel a bought the camara the came yesterday the camaras all work but two cables dont work should i send it back or you guys can replace it

The remote came broke, everything else seems to work

Other than not being able to view from your smart phone it's an okay system.

Just received today July 26, 2016. The hard drive (500GB HDD) was dangling about in the DVR with one (1) screw securing the drive to the DVR frame. The remaining three (3) screws were loose in the frame and the containing box (I realized from rattling sounds as I held the box). Additionally the SATA cable was off it's socket on the PC board (upon open inspection). I secured the HDD with the four (4) screws and attached the SATA. I found one more loose modular plugs and made sure all were well seated. That was my first time experiencing this from an Amazon shipment. I haven't tried the device yet because I do not have the time as yet. If it does not work well, obviously I will need to purchase a new one since I bought this for application in the Caribbean where it will be tested.

Because of the problems mentioned above, I will not be changing my 3-star review on this product even if it works fine - instead I will be purchasing a better one (higher quality image,ability to follow target, etc.) next time around! This review is NOT objective and is my first negative review on AMZN!

Little dissappointed but it seems to do the job.

Like others have stated, instructions are poor and connecting it to your phone is not clear or easy. But I knew that going in, so I am not deducting points for that.

What I am deducting points for is the design of the DVR. It has a cheap WD green HDD and there is no cooling fan in the unit. This unit needs to be in a cool location all the time, and even then the HDD is going to heat up with no way to cool it down. I have build computers with these HDD, and they fail rather quickly without adequate cooling, so I do not seeing it lasting very long. With that said, it is a standard SATA configuration, so it is easy enough to replace when needed.

Lastly, it is easy to install a small fan yourself. I just ran the power from the existing internal 12 v input plug on the device and installed a small 1.5" fan and left the cover off. I put the whole unit in a separate ventilated enclosure with a UPS, so it is still protected from dust and accidental contact. I would recommend adding some type of cooling if considering this unit.

Relatively easy setup of the cameras. Picture quality is acceptable. I am unable to setup the mobile app. (HD eye). I keep getting 'connection failed'.
The QR code scans okay. I enter the required user/password, but failed to connect.

The cloud server (http://p2p.ivs168.com) doesn't allow you to register. Zero progress with this option. I tried using the internet browser to access the DVR but that also failed because it requires an 'ACTIVEX' to be installed which downloaded easily but failed to install.

With that said, I am unable to access the cameras remotely. Other mobile apps require a mobile port as a part of their configuration. I tried (80 and 8000) but that too failed. Cannot find any port information in the DVR setup menu.

I am open to the fact that I may be doing something wrong but I am frustrated.

Any help is welcomed.

Internet interface complicated and poorly explained. Still not functioning. Looking for replacement dvr

Around 12 months the system started messing up on the app. After that the whole DVR no longer sends any output to a monitor. I'm looking to replace it and most likely won't go with this one again. Picture quality was not valuable other than to see "someone" was on the property.

I called the company because I was having a couple problems.
1. I added a user and gave them full access to everything. However, whenever I would log back in, all the boxes would be unchecked again and the user I had just added did not have access to anything anymore. I did this multiple times and would always hit "save" but I always ended up with the same result.
2. I wasn't able to access the camera system remotely, which was a big selling point for me. The longer I spoke with tech support and the more things we tried, we realized my Ethernet port was bad and I would need a replacement. I'm sending this one back and have already ordered my second one.
Hopefully this one works. By the way, their tech support people are super helpful and very friendly. The guy I spoke with was super nice.

The quality of the picture is not good.

Easy to set up. Power supplies are very bulky. Software for phone and tablet does not work. If you are looking for cctv unit to monitor remotely DO NOT get this one.

Hard to connect, have nothing but issues with it still can't get to work right haven't even installed it. Someone broke in the house, would have cought them if this worked right. Don't wast your money

The system is so complicated to set it up for distance monitoring. I'll just say yes the user manual comes with it but since it is so amateur written, I found if USELESS! DO NOT BUY IT!!!

Buyer Beware! Return and Product support is very limited. Please review other Vendors/ Sellers before you buy this DVR combo. Buy Night Owl they are a bit more $ but Equipment is better manufactured and supported as well.

Brought this system 2 months ago, and already 2 cameras have failed. The manufacturer sent a replacement for the first one. The second one 30 days were up. Called Square deal insurance and nothing but a real hassle there also.They want me to take a screenshot of my receipt, Get the serial number from the camera. Just a big hassle. II guess you get what you pay for. In this case, I paid for a big hassle.

This is a total piece of crap. I have had several camera systems so I am not new to it. The installation CD that came with the system was cracked. I connected as I have others in the past. NO picture from any of the cameras. After checking everything several times. I called the number and told the lady what the problem was. No picture from the cameras and the installation CD was cracked so I couldn't load the program on my lap top. She politely emailed me a copy of the instructions. The instructions did NOT match what was showing on the screen. Therefor they did not help. I called back and Asked for a tech to help me. After getting very agrivated the lady told me that a tech would call me back in 5 minutes. He did. But he was completely useless.

His final statement. "I can't believe you got 4 bad cameras."

He then told me to return the entire set to Amazon and get Amazon to refund my money and then I could buy another one.

Yes. I want my money back. No, I shouldn't have to send it back and then order a new one. They should send the replacement AND a return label for the old system.

FYI. I had another brand very similar at home. I sent one of my helpers to get it. I installed that DVR and again NO video shows. I connected the other brand cameras and YEP, all of them work. So all in all, this cost me almost a whole day of time for me and an employee.

So please do not waste your time and money on this junk. Their customer service is pittyful and the system is worse.

Modified: I reached out to the seller and got in touch in 2 rings. The lady on the other line was very friendly and helped me reset the master password. She also is getting the other two units repaired since they are under warranty. It doesn't change the fact I have them 1 star for 2/3 of the DVRs failing in 2 months but I appreciate the seller working with me to replace them. On a side note, the mouse it comes with is terrible. Just buy another.

Original review: I ordered 3 of these. If they worked, id have given 4 starts. More if the video quality was better (good but not 5star quality) BUT, 2 of the Hard Drives now reset themselves constantly and no longer record. I've tried plugging them in Seperate places and trying different power cord options. Nothing. On top of that, the manufacturer is impossible to reach and I haven't gotten a live person yet. Will never buy from again.

This product is just bad. I ordered one in July only to have it reboot constantly and freeze. It felt hot and it was in a cool place, so I know it wasnt the location. It would beep then reboot and sometimes freeze.

So I ordered a second unit, installed it and it worked great for a day, then the same exact thing started to happen. Beep, reboot then crash. The second one the HDD died and now it wont even find the Hdd when it boots up. For some reason they are just too hot, The hdd is very hot and then it will stop working.

I would not recommend this product and am disappointed I have wasted my time and 200 dollars on it.

There is no support because the manufacture has no website or contact information since its from china.

UPDATE* 10/4

I fixed the problem with the DVR rebooting. The power supply that comes with this system is a dinky little 2 amp unit. I replaced the 2 amp unit with a larger 3 amp power supply, took the hdd out and reformatted it and it has been working fine ever since. I still think they should have a support contact or some way for customers to notify them of the problems.

Ok well its not working again, When the hdd is full its supposed to recycle the data and record over, instead it freezes. So I researched how to get support for this and I find out that this linux DVR is a 34$ china disposable dvr. Its re branded, but its Chinese model number is EV-8208HD search and see for yourself. I paid 200 bucks for a 34 dollar dvd....
