awesome monitor, everything looks great
July 8, 2016
I absolutely love this monitor. Connected effortlessly to my macbook air using a DVI to minidisplayport adapter. A lot of reviews say that the brightness was unbearably high out of the box, and required manual dimming. However, I noticed no such thing; the brightness was perfect right out of the box (and I usually prefer dimmer monitors!) Regarding tilting, I'm absolutely baffled as to why many reviews here say that this monitor cannot tilt, or requires unscrewing and then rescrewing to manually tilt it; maybe I am misunderstanding what "tilt feature" means when it comes to monitors? In fact, I found it very easy to adjust the tilt of this monitor (even the instructions say that the monitor can be tilted up to 15 degrees!) without having to unscrew the base. One small quibble I have about the assembly of this monitor is that connecting the base to the monitor itself required pushing together two pieces with an unexpectedly substantial amount of force (I'm a 180 lb guy who lifts weights regularly, so I believe it should be a little fair to say that it shouldn't require that much force). At first, it seemed to me that the two pieces (the base and the slot on the back of the monitor) did not "snap" together. In fact, there was even a thread on the Acer community site where someone had the exact same problem (google "acer g236hl base", and go to the thread "Attaching G236HL Monitor to Base") and the responses in that thread were all completely useless. I eventually found that you simply have to push the base piece into the back of the monitor with a very strong push, and eventually it will very audibly and noticeably *snap* together, and it will then be locked together very securely. However, the force required to get the snap seems to be very large, and I can see someone who doesn't know this that will simply place the monitor on the base without snapping it together, which will lead to a very wobbly monitor (as the OP of the thread mentioned above accurately complained)
Great monitor for the price, would buy again. (actually I might get a second one)

Firstly, I am by no means an expert when it comes to displays. I did do quite a bit of research, and spent a long time trying to decide glossy/matte, which screen size is best for me, resolution, etc. I got this monitor to use alongside my 2012 macbook pro, and it worked instantly with 0 set up. (you do need a display --> mini display cable though).I am extremely happy with it out of the box, and as soon as I plugged it in the words "f@%$ yeah" just kinda slipped out.I originally wanted a glossy screen because I thought the matte ones are dull, but this monitor is anything but dull. The colors are great, and everything looks super crisp. I think 25" is a good size, and the high resolution makes great use of all the screen space without anything being too small. (I sit about 2-3 feet away and admittedly don't have the best eyesight). The stand DOES tilt (though only a bit), not sure why there are so many people saying it doesn't.Anyway all in all, fantastic monitor (especially for $250!!!). I love the extremely thin bezel, and the beautiful picture quality. If you're considering it, go for it! I really don't think you'll regret it.
Everything about this monitor is awesome
August 3, 2015
This is a brilliant all around monitor and great for gaming. The size of the monitor is good, and the colors and text are really clear. I had a really nice Viewsonic monitor for years so I was already used to using a good monitor. In games you get the 1440 resolution, so your games look clearer than ever before along with the vibrant colors. At first I thought maybe the monitor was a little bright but your eyes adjust quickly and it is easier to read text than with other monitors.I had a little bit of a problem getting Windows to recognize the maximum 2560x1440 resolution. It identifies it as a "Generic PnP Monitor". Initially I tried to connect the monitor while Windows was still running, which you really shouldn't do anyways. Whenever you connect a new monitor, your system should be turned off and only after connecting and turning on the monitor should you turn your PC on. Eventually I deleted the "Generic PnP Monitor" entry in Device Manager, and then shutdown the PC. I moved the DVI cable to a different port on my graphics card, and then started it back up and it recognized the correct maximum resolution for the monitor, but I think the solution was to delete the previous Generic PnP Monitor entry. You also need to use the cable provided with the monitor, or another DVI dual link cable because that is required for the higher resolution. Another problem I have seen with Windows not recognizing the higher resolution is by using a DVI to HDMI cable or other types of converter dongles, so you shouldn't use those either. The games are so clear that you don't really need Antialiasing anymore. Since you now run games at 2560x1440 with this monitor, and the higher resolution will bring your FPS down a little, you can turn off the Antialiasing if you need the extra FPS.
Once you go 1440p, you don't go back (Must buy for non or light gamers, Heavy gamers read on)
June 7, 2015
I've been saving money to upgrade my 32" 720p TV even though it's still going strong for almost 4 years because:1) It's on my desk and it takes up a lot of space2) While 720p is easier on my graphics card, the image quality basically cancels out how easily i can max out most settings on modern games.I would say when i'm at a monitor, 1/3 of the time I'm gaming the other 2/3 are just basic web browsing and YouTube consumption. 720p on a 32 inch TV sitting less than 6 feet from it would probably make most enthusiast PC gamers either cringe or cry (or both). I knew that while the 2/3rds I spend doing non-gaming activities would benefit from a higher resolution, my GPU would choke on it. I have been eyeing this Acer monitor because of how affordable it is (get it at $279, DEFINITELY get it right now at $249) and because it's a 1440p resolution which is higher than the standard 1080p. So does paying less equal less quality? With this monitor, I think not. I will list the pros and cons briefly and go into more detail below.PROS+VERY bright (I believe it's at 80 at default which is okay in the daytime but at night it's WAY too bright and I found 45 to be a sweet spot)+IPS display (Vibrant colors at wide viewing angles, everyone needs an IPS monitor unless you are those competitive gamers who need 144 hz monitors that right now are great for multiplayer games but have terrible colors and poor viewing angles)+Very affordable (A lot of high end 1080p monitors are around this price and while most are around $150-$200, I feel it's worth extra to go to 1440p especially if you do more web browsing than gaming)NEUTRALQuality (My monitor came with absolutely NO dead pixels and very faint backlight bleed common for IPS displays, I guess I won the monitor lottery. This WILL vary, but my experience was positive however I will leave this as a neutral as not all panels are made the same. Mine was made in April of this yer.)CONS-Very flimsy stand (Yes the other reviewers are right, the stand is quite bad. When you try to adjust the vertical height of the monitor it WILL shake. You can't adjust it horizontally nor can you turn it sideways like the Dell Ultrasharp's. It is easy to install the stand though.)-NO vesa mounts (Ties into the flimsy stand because you're stuck with that stand. Some people will find a lack of vesa mounts to be a nonstarter. For me, I can live with a flimsy stand when everything else about this monitor is a solid A.)In the box it comes with a DVI cable and an HDMI cable but not a display port cable. Something to note.So if you're not a gamer, the rest of this review you can skip. I will say to buy this monitor if you aren't a gamer because of the affordability, and the great display at 1440p resolution. Now, for the gamers: The higher the resolution the more your FPS is decreased. If you absolutely MUST have a solid 60fps experience, you will need at least a GTX 970 or a R9 290x if you're okay with dialing down some key settings like AA and shadows for 60fps or a GTX 980 ti or what AMD is going to release on July 16th at E3 if you want to have your cake and eat it too (max everything AND solid/above 60fps). I have a AMD R9 270, which is definitely on the lower end of the GPU spectrum so how does it fare at 1440p? Playing a demanding game like The Witcher 3, I can max out some settings, dial down the foliage distance (huge FPS eater) and get rid of Hairworks (even bigger for AMD AND Nvidia cards) and I can get a solid 30fps. It's not 60, but if you're of the graphics > FPS affinity, you can definitely use a lower end GPU at 1440p like the R9 270, 280 and for NVIDIA the 960. It's up to you what you want more of, but what is not disputable is just how much of a steal this monitor is and it WILL make your games look like you're actually in them, I stared at The Witcher 3 for almost 10 minutes just because how gorgeous it looks and why IPS monitors are always superior to other panels. 1440p is not as big of a jump as 4K, but it IS a big improvement over 1080p. The question is: do you need a new graphics card or not?
Triple monitor heaven

Great Buy for a Great Price!
December 2, 2014
Excellent Monitor especially for the price! I have had no problem with this monitor in fact ive had one for a year now and i just bought another when I ordered my computer to build! These monitors side by side look great and perform great as well! I am hoping to get a Mount for my desk when i am able to and these will be able to mount because they have the VESA mounting spots on the back of the Monitor!

Amazing budget ultrawide monitor
September 11, 2017
This monitor is a great value entry for those who want to have the ultrawide experience on a budget. Colors are extremely accurate and the high brightness and matte coating ensures that the image on screen remains visible at all times. The on-screen options are easy to navigate and very useful for quick brightness adjustment or mode changing. The joystick-like button control takes a while to get used to though. I was able to overclock this monitor from the stock 60Hz to 75Hz which makes the OS feel more smooth in general and games more immersive. One negative to note is that this display is very short compared to a standard aspect ratio 25" screen. Not a huge issue for me, but everyone who sees it always asks about it. Overall, I would recommend this monitor to anyone who wants to have a unique display experience that cannot be had with a standard single monitor setup.
amazing montior,amazing price
February 23, 2016
an amazing monitor for the price. i personally bought this with my hard earned money being 17 its nice to be able to treat yourself instead of begging dad for a new monitor and i have to say for 200 dollars this monitor is amazing. ive only had it a day but basic testing most games support the resolution and even tho its alittle harder to run then a regular 1080p monitor . it is still completely worth it it is an amazing new way to experience games and it makes everything feel more immersive and nice coming from a 32 inch tv it was a bit of a jump back but the ultrawide panel and amazing gaming performance with 5ms responce time makes up for the lost verticle real estate . i love this monitor and its only been one day . hopefully it will be my driver for a while till i get enough to get a newer and bigger ultrawide after planed pc upgrades :)
it's a joy to work with
February 10, 2016
probably should have gotten the higher resolution one, but this one has done everything i hoped it would. And frankly, it's a joy to work with. I spend ~12h a day on the computer, so it's important to me to have a decent display, and this, certainly qualifies.
Wonderful Monitors.
August 21, 2015
We purchased 4 of these for my husbands computer desk. He loves them! No complaints! Fully mountable and pretty light weight as well. The only thing that kinda stinks about them is the power switch is on the bottom. So if you plan on stacking them like this you cannot stack them too tight or you cant power them individually. The power switch is a joystick like button.
The best monitor I have ever used!
July 29, 2015
Best monitor ever! The IPS panel is beautiful and the viewing angles are as advertised. The sheer size of this monitor is enormous. I was a bit skeptical because in pictures the monitor looks smaller than it actually is, but in person the monitor is huge, it literally takes up almost my whole desk which is exactly what I wanted. The aspect ratio of 21 by 9 is going to spoil me as I get more and more used to it, once you go ultra wide you don't go back. I would buy 2 more of these and wall mount them if i had the space. I only have 2 negligible complaints. The stand is sleek and all, but it only offers tilt and 1 inch of height adjustment. That would be a bigger problem, but is compensated by the VESA mount they decided to include which allows you to be able to mount it to the wall. I believe wall mounted monitors look better than any monitor stand anyways. The other complaint that I have is the fact that even though you spend 522 dollars to buy one of these monitors they only decided give you an hdmi cable instead of a display cable which is practically necessary for this monitor to work at it's full potential. Those are my only 2 cons which are fixable and not a big deal to me because it is fairly inexpensive to fix. One con that I saw others point out is the resolution is too low, which to me didn't bother me at all. I have never used a 1440 or 4k monitor on my desk before so I haven't been spoiled by the increased vertical resolution those options provide. Coming from a 1920X1080p monitor I do not get bothered by the resolution one bit. Plus if your a gamer the resolution of this screen combined with free sync provides a smooth game play experience that is awesomely complemented by the ultra wide aspect ratio. Cons aside this is hands down the best monitor I have ever used.
Great for Gaming
May 2, 2015
Great monitor! Coming from duel 27'' to a single widescreen is amazing. I was skeptical about this 2560x1080 or a 3440x1440. I chose this resolution for steadier frames since my needs mostly are gaming. The screen itself is great quality like most LG products and the base is very sturdy. So far I have tested GTA V, BF3, BF4, Blur, and League of Legends. All look great in the 21:9 aspect ratio. Some games don't support this ratio yet so in the worst case you just run a 16:9 with black borders. I am using a display port cable which gives the best resolution. So I would recommend the same.

If you have a bad sense of touch
July 24, 2017
Acer G277HL Abid 27-Inch Full HD (1920 x 1080) Widescreen DisplayNo complaints. When researching, I saw some people complained about the control buttons on the front-right bottom of the monitor. There are no pictures indicating where the buttons are and they are very small. I've been using it for a couple of weeks and still have to feel around for the tiny buttons. I have to put my finger to the far right and drag it along so I hit the first (power) button. I left some of the plastic shipping protection on the monitor and sometimes I confuse that for the button, that's how small they are. I still frequently hit the second button from the right. If you have a bad sense of touch, big fingers or are clumsy, you might find it difficult to find the right button. I don't think it's an issue for most people, I don't take any stars off because of it.I bought this for $139.99. At full price, I think this is only 4-stars because there are other similarly priced 27" monitors. If you can get this on sale, it's worth it. Most other monitors with similar prices to what I paid were 23". I went big and don't regret it.
Trade offs, but worth the price
June 9, 2016
This would be 5 stars except some build quality issues. Others have mentioned it, but at the bottom corners there is a gap between the frame and screen where you can spot a bit of back light. It isn't noticeable unless you look for it, but at first I thought the monitor was damaged. Another reason for 4 stars vs 5 is the hidden bezel. There is a gap on the left and right side and top of the monitor. I spent an hour trying to figure out if I needed to overscan until I found other videos and reviews showing the same gap. So even though this has a very thin frame, there is still a hidden bezel. If you want that true edge to edge display you'd need to go with Dell or something similar and that's a lot more expensive. A trade off to keep in mind if that's important to you.Disclaimer, I'm not a designer, photo editor. Just a sys admin. This is my primary monitor for work. The screen quality of this monitor relative to its price is amazing. I think it actually rivals the quality you get with dell ultrasharps. The matte screen has nearly 0 reflection and I'm using it in an upstairs office that gets direct sunlight. I think the slightly smaller size helps with the picture quality as the pixel density is that much greater. I have a 27" HP ZR2740w next to it and this monitor outshines it hands down. It ships with several cables, something I haven't seen in a long time. High speed HDMI, display port to display port, and DVI. At least $30 in cables out of the box. I'm using the HDMI cable to connect my Dell Inspiron 7000 2-in-1 7348. I get 2560x1440@60Hz with no issues. I have tried a myriad of adapters and cables with my HP monitor (which only has dual link DVI and displayport) and have never been able to get 1440p from this laptop. I was actually surprised this worked out of the box as I don't think the 7348 has HDMI 2.0. I won't be playing any games on this at the moment, but I do have a XPS 15 9550 coming next week. It won't be able to push 1440p with very high settings but I'll probably try Battlefront and Cities Skylines. You also lose a good stand. The one this comes with allows you to pivot the monitor. There is no side to side, up or down. Also no vesa mount, although there are adapters for about $30. The stand is sturdy and the monitor light and compact so it's easy to fit on a smaller desk.I'm including a pic of the gap and you can see the hidden bezel from the other pic. My 7348 has a glossy screen to get an idea of reflection.
Pretty good with a few issues
May 9, 2016
I picked up my old monitor using two hands to move it out of the way, pulled the new monitor out of the box and thought i'd grabbed cardboard, it was so light. Plugged it in, fired it up, and it was bright, bright, bright. It also looked huge next to my 19-inch second monitor. Spent 30 minutes cursing and grumbling trying to figure out the out-of-sight button on the bottom of the screen to lower the brightness and adjust the contrast. I think I've got it adjusted now.Not thrilled with the stand. If it's supposed to lock in there, I haven't figured out how. It's wobbly, but since I don't have to touch it, I guess it's OK.I've got the tilt adjusted for work, where I sit up. But when watching a video, I lean back in my chair and it gets a bit dark.I am confused that my old 19-inch monitor seems to have sharper colors. This one's resolution is better, but not as crisp. All in all, I'll probably get another one to replace the 19-inch eventually.
Great, but not quite miraculous
April 18, 2016
So mine arrived with a bright spot on the monitor. It's this little spot that is slightly brighter than the rest of the screen. The pixels aren't dead, they're just brighter. It only shows up against a white background. It hasn't proven to be a dealbreaker for me, considering I've heard that there are so many things that could go wrong with this monitor that are much worse.I will say that I bought this to pair with a gaming desktop, and it does not disappoint. I'm no expert when it comes to the finer points of refresh rates and ghosting, but I can say that after testing every game in my Steam library (around 100), 1440p does not disappoint. Games are crisp and clear and the color is beautiful right out of the box. I have it sitting on a small desk where I am sitting relatively close to the screen, and its immersive to say the least.Bear in mind that you need a powerful graphics card to drive games at 1440p with decent settings. My desktop is equipped with a GTX 970 and it can handle most things, but you do find that maxing out newer games at 1440p can cause a certain degree of stuttering in the framerate (most notably The Witcher 3, but I stabilized it by turning off Hairworks...because it's Hairworks).I'm writing this review just to make it clear that this stand is flimsy. It rocks slightly when typing heavily to the point where it is simply annoying. I intend to buy adhesive strips to secure it to the desk, but that's not the most elegant of solutions. In short, you're getting the tech without the frills. Understand that those frills can make a big difference, and plan accordingly.
Great 1440p Monitor
January 25, 2016
Really great monitor. I've been using it for a month, and I have not noticed any dead pixels so far. 1440p looks great at this size, and I don't feel any scaling is necessary at 25 inches (some will say 27 inches is ideal for 1440p, but I rather like the pixel density I'm getting with this). The monitor is easily view-able from any angle, and I haven't needed to touch the color controls as it's IPS display is gorgeous as is. I've had no light bleeding through, either.I use this to play games, and I will also note I've had no problems with ghosting or response times. I've even managed to crank up the monitor to a stable 81 Hz refresh rate, so that was a great bonus. I had no problems connecting it to a current generation video card (R9 390). Some have complained about the speakers it comes with. Frankly, it sounds the same as the speakers that come with any TV or monitor. That is to say, mediocre, but perfectly acceptable to watch Netflix with. I think most people buy their own speakers or a nice pair of headphones for their monitors anyway. The one complaint other users have had that I will validate is the stand. It's rather flimsy feeling. Every time I go to turn the monitor on, there is a button on the bottom of the screen you need to press. If I don't also put a finger on the top of the screen to stabilize it, it will wobble a bit when I press any of the buttons on the bottom. I'm a bit concerned the monitor will outlive the stand (partially because it seems like such a great monitor that I see no need to replace it in the next 5 or more years), and I'm not quite sure what to do about that.Overall, I think this is the best buy-in value you can make for a 1440p monitor. The only things I would change is giving it a different stand and maybe free-sync.
Not bad... Good price.
July 30, 2015
Decent monitor. You do get what you pay for with the price. I use AutoCad as a draftsman and this monitor is adequate for that however someone doing serious graphics may want to look elsewhere. Text is a little fuzzy and the color distorts at the slightest shift of viewing angle. The overall image appears to be slightly pixelated. The stand is a bit rickety also. The display is pretty shaky on the stand that it comes with. Any slight movement or even someone walking by my desk causes the monitor to shake. I would suggest purchasing wall or desk mount to add stability. No HDMI but that is not a big deal to me. You have to realize when you buy this that it is not a high end monitor. I works well for gaming and movies (Netflix, Amazon Prime, etc.) look pretty good. Overall a decent budget friendly monitor.

Excellent and Affordable Widescreen for Work and Gaming
July 17, 2016
I've had this monitor for nearly a year and it hasn't had any defects. The controls are a godsend, and if I had my way, they'd be mandatory on every TV and computer monitor. Okay, I kid, but seriously, the controls are a revelation. The colors are pretty vivid, and I never find myself wanting a brighter backlight. For the price, it's an excellent choice for gaming. The wide aspect ratio gives you a huge advantage I'm first person shooters, though the 60Hz refresh rate may leave you wanting a little more. Fantasy titles and RPGs really pop on this display too. Be warned though - you might want to upgrade your graphics card if you expect to be able to play on the same settings if you're upgrading from a lower resolution. For work, this could possibly replace a dual monitor setup, depending on your needs. If you need just a little extra horizontal space, it's perfect. But if you do a lot of graphics work or computer programming, you might find yourself a little cramped. The matte finish is an attractive feature if you spend a lot of time staring at your screen, due to the reduces glare. The colors don't seem faded on it either, which is nice. The viewing angles are solid, and overall, it's a great upgrade if you're still using a lower resolution. Admittedly, it looks a bit expensive on paper, and maybe you do have to pay a premium for it being a niche product, but displays are a personal item so what works for one person might not for another. Try it first if you can. If not and you're still considering it, I highly recommend it.
However I loved this monitor
March 2, 2016
I ended up returning this monitor for a standard 16:9 monitor as I was finding the resolution a little incompatible with some of the applications I was trying to run due to scaling issues. However I loved this monitor. It takes a little getting use to but once you do, having the extra space is awesome. If you're doing video work or anything that involves looking at something wide this monitor is great. The colors were great too - I didn't notice any weird color accuracy. I would like to suggest a slightly larger monitor though if you're looking to get into ultra wide - something like 29inch as the 25inch 21:9 monitor is a lot smaller than a 25inch 16:9 monitor.
My honest review

What I liked about this product:Nice and wide, good qualityWhat I disliked about this product: Actually much shorter/height than I thought. While 25" sounds great, that's diagnal, so even across a standard desk you'll squint to read the content if you don't make your font larger. What do I think can be done to improve on this product:It's as advertised - so no feedback here. Was this a paid/traded/forced review? No - I have no ties to this product, I am a consumer that purchased this product.About Me: IT Professional out of Washington State.Whom do I buy for?: Myself and three generations of family. What type of products do I like/purchase?: Electronics, Software, Technology, Body Hacking (food/drugs), reading materials
Great Gaming Monitor for the budget gamer.
November 14, 2015
Great product for those gaming enthusiasts who don't have thousands to spend on monitors.ProsJoystick monitor control is awesome, and makes for easy adjustments.Comes with a few presets for FPS gaming, all of which seem to work quite well.Has a displayport and HDMI input, along with an audio output. (Signal comes from HDMI)Screen is very vivid, and resilient. No motion blur on games, and colors are spot on.For those who are wanting a monitor for work, this screen could easily load a web page, and two Microsoft Word windows.ConsIt's a slight bit annoying to shut the monitor off, as you have to click the button, then pull the joystick towards you. It would be nice to be able to just pull the joystick towards you to shut the monitor off.The base for this monitor could have been much taller. to view this correctly, I had to McGyver a monitor stand. The stand needs to be tightened down pretty well, or monitor does have a bit of shake when mashing keys.
Cheaper entry level ultrawide screen
October 11, 2015
I like using the extra screen space to have browser windows wider, no more do I have to deal with the strange websites that fail to display properly on half a 1080p screen.Primarily bought this because I use applications that need a lot of information on the screen at once, and I don't have room to really fit 2 screens on my desk. With this, I can view everything I need from my program and have several others open on the side without having to alt+tab between programs and get lost in my browser windows or various terminal prompts. The screen is a bit short vertically, this still is a bit strange but I think if I elevated the screen by about 2-3 inches I wouldn't notice it as much. If you can afford/fit it, go for the 29 inch.UPDATE: It's been nearly a year since I've gotten the screen, I have a pixel (just one) that is stuck always on red. Because of this I'm docking a star. My previous monitor is 8 years old and has no stuck pixels whatsoever.
Great monitor for a gamer on a budget.
August 1, 2015
This is the best monitor I've had so far. 21:9 is weird but it's like having to 2 smaller monitors in one. The 25UM57-P model only has 2 HDMI ports and no DP ports. I was aware of this b/c I've researched this model for a month before buying it. Resolution is at 2560x1080 via HDMI cable that came w/ the monitor. Yes, its running full 2560x1080 on a HDMI cable. Depending on what your setup is, you don't have to buy a DP to HDMI adapter. This monitor does not have built in speakers, but does have 3.5mm headphone jack to connect power speakers. My only issue is the stand. It's cheap and wobbly if I bump the desk. At only $179 that I paid for, I was not expecting this monitor to be perfect. As long as it displays my games perfectly, I'm good.

This screen is NOT made to be mounted :(
October 10, 2017
The screens are okay. I was trying to hook up my co-worker with a dual monitor set-up, so I ordered two of these Acer 21.5" screens. We got them in and set them up. I ordered a dual monitor stand separately so I could mount the 2 screens on a stand. ANYWAY, got the screens out of the box and set them up to stand alone, since we were waiting another day on the Monitor mounting stand................. THESE SCREENS ARE NOT MADE TO BE MOUNTED -- BUYER BEWARE. It doesn't really tell you that in the product description. I tried to save $20 by finding these online myself... and it cost me $200 because they are capable of being mounted. Boxes were thrown away that night by office cleaners, so I cannot return. Just beware.............
Passable as a cheap CHEAP secondary budget monitor
August 11, 2017
MODELS VARY - ** THIS REVIEW ** is of the bottom of the line 19.5" 1600 X 900 dpi G206HQL. I bought the bottom of this series on a whim as a backup monitor. One should always have a backup monitor eh? It was only $79.99. I had one of my security monitors die today, I finally unboxed the ACER G206HQLTHE GOOD: It comes with both VGA and DVI-D cables (aside from power supply and stand). It will tilt forward or backwards about (I'm guessing) 15 - 20 degrees.THE BAD: It's a cheap, lackluster display output. MAYBE it would look better of my video card on that system had DVI output. I find going from VGA to DVI gains about 10% of "snap" or better picture quality. This will be "something" for now, but even for my security camera output which is 3Megapixel, this is not true HD.Moral: You get what you pay for. There is no way this would work as a main , production monitor for business use (text legibility). Even casual surfing would be a bit tedious on this. Only buy this if you really don't care or are on a budget. Who knows maybe the ones up the ladder in this model series are a bit better? I can't speak to that.
It didn't feel like it was going to break
June 11, 2017
It worked. The stand, as everyone has said, was flimsy plastic, but not as flimsy as I expected. It didn't feel like it was going to break. No dead pixels or anything, aesthetically pleasing design. The issue is the color quality. The colors are perpetually washed compared to other, even cheaper ips panels I've used. Investigating reveals the panel is a wide viewing angle equivalent of IPS, not real IPS.It's easily the cheapest 1440p monitor of its size, and it works. Those are the good points. Bad is the color. I sold it and bought a different monitor in the end.
Great beginner 1440p with overclocking refresh rate but glare that can be annoying.
April 1, 2017
If you are looking for a cheap 1440p monitor that you can overclock the refresh rate then this is a great monitor. I manage to get mine to sit at 80hz no problem. There are a few issues though. If they weren't visual then I wouldn't dock too much from it but they are. I knew IPS monitors glare easily but I always assumed that the glare would come from something else. The glare on my monitor comes from the monitor. The position I sit causes the glare to show up near the bottom and a little on the top. The glare moves around as I move around. The fortunate part is this is only obvious when the background is dark and my brain eventually ignores it if I'm not paying too much attention to it.Second issue I have is depending on the window I can see the pixels when windows are moved. I tried switching ports, updating drivers, and etc.Thankfully this is only obvious with certain windows. The color of the window for Discord is perfect and when I move it around it's very obvious, but others it's very faint or I don't see it at all. If this changes in the future I will update my review.Do I recommend this? Yes. If you really want a 1440p monitor but don't want to shell out 500+ then this is perfect. Just don't expect the monitor to be perfect.
The reason I didn't give this less stars is because the screen is beautiful. Amazing colors
October 14, 2016
PRODUCT ARRIVED DAMAGED. BEZEL DETACHED FROM SCREEN, AND LIGHT SHINES THROUGH. WTF.The reason I didn't give this less stars is because the screen is beautiful. Amazing colors, everything else is absolutely perfect.. BUT it came broken... I'm not sure if I will ask for a replacement or some money back.. I'm worried about asking for a replacement and receiving one in even worse condition than this one. I've read other reviews and heard terrible stories. So.. I'm not sure if sending this back, just to get another one that's even more broken (in a week or so from now) is worth it... I'll take pictures and attach it to this review tomorrow. Happy with everything aside from that.. So.. If you get a good one..Awesome. If not.. Well.. then it sucks.
Good for the price, but has room for improvement (the stand is a PITA)
November 20, 2015
This ACER monitor gets the job done at 2560x1440, though it does have some issues. A breakdown of my experience (I've been using it for two months as my primary monitor):Pros:-1440 resolution at an affordable price.-Good color reproduction.Cons:-The stand is terrible! If (as I do) you multipurpose your computer and do close up tasks (gaming, productivity) and far away tasks (movies) the ability to adjust the monitor angle is critical. On this monitor, you must grab the top of the monitor (HARD) and the base, and really work at making it move. Non-vesa, not easily adjustable.-Buttons are cheap and hard to actuate--including the power button.-The big silver bezel is...shall we say unattractive? I've had the monitor for a while and I still find it distracting.-Screen brightness is a little non-uniform. Not enough to really bother me, but it's definitely darker at the edges. Not really a con, but just FYI--this monitor does not overclock well.Would I buy it again? Honestly, the stand issue bothers me more than it probably should (probably because I have to adjust it so often). If you're a set it and forget it kind of user, this is a pretty good monitor for the price.

Meh!
September 5, 2017
This screen is much smaller than i hoped. Much too narrow for my liking. The width is good though. I ended up giving this monitor to a young 8yo gamer who was very pleased. I will continue my search for a larger ultrawide monitor.
I bought two of these -- they are great monitors. High quality resolution
March 30, 2017
I bought two of these -- they are great monitors. High quality resolution. But, but be aware of a problem with it. With two monitors you can only mover the cursor in one direction between the monitors not bi-directionally as supported in windows 8 and 10.
Beautiful monitor BUT
February 11, 2017
Beautiful monitor BUT it won't work with a Mac as far as I can tell. I have done a ton of research and even bought a 3rd party program and there is no resolution in the mac for for this ultra wide screen. Anyone have any ideas before I send it back?
screen leans forward after set up
June 16, 2016
Easy to set up, high resolution, but the screen leans forward after you set it up. You can't adjust its high or to make it lean back. In the end, I folded up a small towel to put it under the base to tilt the screen backward a bit.
Good quality. Rating reflects personal dislike.
March 16, 2016
I ordered this sight unseen when my previous monitor began to fail. It's very good for one thing that I happen to do a lot of: programming in an IDE. I can open the project hierarchy on the left, the file structure on the right, and still have plenty of room in the middle for code. But for just about any other purpose, the aspect ratio is really weird. Maybe it would be good for games if the game lets you set a very wide camera angle. But if you maximize a browser window, either space is wasted on the sides or the page takes the full width and becomes hard to read. I'd recommend sitting about 1 yard/meter away from this monitor, which is not possible on my desk.
It is a nice looking monitor
January 13, 2016
It is a nice looking monitor. The colors are much better than my Acer 23 inch, However, I'm planning on returning for 2 reasons. First, there is no way to adjust the angle of the display. While on my desk, it is facing my chest and I cannot tilt it up so it faces my eyes. (I know its a minor thing but I will forever be asking why they could not make it adjustable...) The 2nd reason.. it is too small. To compensate for the wide resolution, the height resolution is much smaller than I had realized. I had read other reviews that made this point and I should have listened to them.

Great display, poor quality everything else.
July 11, 2017
I purchased a pair of these monitors as a cheaper alternative to the Dell 25" monitors I have at work. As far as I can tell these use the same panel as the Dell 25" 2560x1440p Ultrasharps and they were around $80-$100 cheaper. The display and color reproduction is AMAZING. I do a ton of development and moving from a TN panel to an IPS panel made a world of difference and the higher resolution means more code on screen. The display also had NO stuck pixels at all.So why does it get 2 stars? Well, the devil is in the details. Whoever made the panel (I didn't look it up, is it samsung? Someone else?) gets 5 stars, but Acer's implementation of it gets 1 star. The bezels are popping off the sides, causing light to bleed through outside the panel (I noticed this after the return period, otherwise I would have returned them...also the issue is NOT caused by the VESA adapters/mount that I mention below, it happened ). I dare not attempt to RMA these monitors. Back when I first purchased them I couldn't even find a page for this model on Acer's site. I've also heard horror stories (after purchasing, of course) of users receiving DOA units as replacements from Acer when RMAing various products. Also, the monitors are not VESA compatible. Recently I found out how important this is when I decided I wanted a monitor mount in order to make more room on my desk. The only way I could find to make these things work with the mount was to buy a 3rd party adapter (which has it's own flaws) for each of the monitors...2 of these totaled $83 which put the price quite a bit closer to the dell monitors I mentioned earlier.I'm still begrudgingly using these monitors, but I do not recommend them and I've decided, after 2 generations of monitors, I will never buy anything ACER branded again.
The Low End
April 18, 2017
These monitors are pretty low quality (washed out blacks and blown out whites), so there's really no way to recover the color saturation quality due to how cheapy they are.Tasks this monitor is good for:Browsing the webTasks this monitor is not good for:Watching moviesGraphic designWeb developmentAnything that requires color accuracyI looked for help online that would tell me how to correct the color, but I couldn't find anything. If you're just wanting a monitor for the sake of having a monitor, this definitely works. However, if you do any sort of design, development, graphic design or any other task that needs color quality, I wouldn't recommend this monitor.I gave it 2 stars, because I don't think this monitor is meant to be great, but it's definitely priced out of its category. I'd recommend a $99.00 price tag for a monitor like this.
Dead in 1+ year.
December 15, 2016
Died in just over 1 year. Further, I had problems with stability and being able to work over a remote login from the beginning. The screen would flicker, and it seemed that the computer nor the monitor could sync up. Working on it just to read emails probably not worth the price, nor do you get much benefit form the high resolution (my computer could handle the resolution, but my eyes could not tell the difference).
Disappointed: Good on paper, but it seems production quality is lacking.
December 13, 2016
I really liked this monitor at first, the size and quality are both very nice. I bought it specifically for gaming and I feel it did a great job. However, after using it for a few months I noticed a dead pixel... and then another one... and then another one. Now, after about 11 months it has at least half a dozen, not all are noticeable all the time, but they are definitely bothersome, not enough that I'm ready to throw down money for a new monitor, but enough that I regret not having bought a different brand. Can't say I've ever had this issue before with an LED monitor, especially not one of this age, so I have to say I'm pretty disappointed there.
Not recommended for graphics/video editing...not best quality
August 13, 2016
Bought this monitor on Amazon the end of May, so I have had this monitor a bit over two months. Colors are fair, and the controls are somewhat easy to work with but are hidden underneath right area. I do not recommend this monitor if you are using it for graphics (PSD, Illustrator, etc.), video editing, etc. I have already developed a cluster of dead pixels in the top right area of the monitor, which makes using Photoshop frustrating because of the black dots (dead pixels) showing up on photos.Construction of this monitor is mediocre, too. Save your money towards a better, higher-quality monitor.
Washed Out Colors? Black Colors Look Grey?
April 6, 2016
I ordered this monitor because I bought a monitor from Acer before and was very pleased with it. It was part of their H6 series. So naturally I thought Acer wouldn't let me down with this monitor. That was a big mistake.I received the monitor, set it up, plugged it in, and turned it on. I was immediately met with disappointment. The colors looked washed out! The blacks looked grey! The resolution did look fine though. That is the only reason it gets 2 stars.I was confussed. When I plugged in my previous monitor that I purchased from them it was perfect and needed no adjustments to look good. I second guessed myself. I thought, "Ok well sure when I adjust the settings it will look fine." I adjusted the contrast and brightness and literally noticed barely any difference between 0 and 100.There is really nothing else to say. I am not going to pay this much for a monitor that promises quality that I didn't receive. Needless to say, I sent it back for a refund.

Don't forget to ship with screws!

Great product! 2 Stars cause mine did not come with necessary screws for installation! Didn't want to return and had to tore apart an old air purifier to get similar screws.

finding an aspect ration is difficult, and picture quality dose not match that of the same price point HP
It'll last a year. Then die.
December 6, 2016
Decent price, but 1 year and two weeks later, it stopped working.Warranty is 12 months, so not worth the cost to ship it back, wait four weeks and pay to have it repaired and shipped back again. So it's your call, is 1 year what you expect out of a $175 monitor. If so, buy it. If not, look elsewhere.
broken product. Flickering Screen.
February 22, 2016
I purchased this monitor 01FEB2016. Initially the product was good no display issues but now its 22FEB2016 and the screen began to flickering. I've checked all hardware switched cables out, switch power, checked my gpu, all which are good to go. So it was a monitor manufacture issue. It started slowly, with just a hint of a flicker but now it's a constant flicker and at time it loses all colour as well just flicking a red line/ or distorted blues. Shameful. The monitor wasn't abused, droped, banged, mishandled, etc. Currently working to resolve issue and will update review with answers.
Has potential if they fix the back light bleed issue
February 2, 2016
This monitor is beautiful. Most games will look gorgeous on this thing and overall, it made my desk look so much cooler. But.. Back light bleed. I was afraid I'd have this issue after reading the reviews. It seems that it's hit or miss whether you'll get a unit that works correctly. Mine was a big miss. The bleed took up almost the entire left side. It Was unusable for movies and games. I've returned it and am ordering a replacement to give it one more shot.
It was a really great monitor at first
October 17, 2015
It was a really great monitor at first! Great colors perfect size amazing performance but, within a week i started to notice some issues. At the bottom towards the middle there were screen tears. I thought to myself thinking oh its probably my HDMI cord that's faulty. I was wrong. I tried a verity of 3 different cords and none worked. I give this monitor a two because i am not the only one who had experienced these issues.

Horrible, washed out color that was not fixable.
August 7, 2017
I had to send this one back. While I understand that you will never get two monitors to match, particularly if they were of different brands, the color on this was so washed out that it was completely unworkable. No amount of calibration by me or my IT professional was able to fix it. There was no true black, only a charcoal gray, and no true white. The closest I could get was a old-paper cream color. It was so distracting, I don't think I could have used it on a single monitor setup. I understand there are some serious quality control issues with this monitor, but even for a cheapo, the quality was completely unacceptable. Disappointing from Acer.On the plus side, Amazon's tech support was excellent, and didn't make me repeat any of the things I already did before issuing a return approval.

after 8 months of use, the monitor stopped working. It turns on, but it doesnt display anything. i made sure it wasnt anything else on my pc. even checked other monitors and they all worked except this monitor. really sad because the picture quality is insane but cannot give it a good review if it wont last especially at the price
Don't buy... Poor reliability, customer service.
October 29, 2016
Poor quality... I have had issues with Acer products in the past. While Acer offers to take care of the product service, they expect you to pay the return shipping which on a 24-inch monitor is around $30. When a new monitor only costs $100 it is more worth my time to just spend the money for a reliable brand. This monitor fails to turn on after 1 year of light use. I will never buy another Acer branded product again and encourage anyone to take their business elsewhere.

Acer refused to replace defective power supply after only a few months and <200 hours of operation. Even though it was an obvious issue with "Materials and Workmanship," customer service was dismissive.
DOA, Very Poorly Designed
February 10, 2016
Arrived only partially functional. It would show the "Energy Star" logo when powered on, and then nothing. No display, nothing when you hit the function buttons on the bottom, nothing when you input a signal from a monitor to the DVI port. What really convinced me that this is a poorly made the monitor is that the function buttons are located on the bottom and are not labelled at all. They are just little black buttons with nothing on them. They are not described in the manual. Don't even know which button worked for what, and they did nothing when I pushed on them.Acer - why would you add a bunch of unlabelled black function buttons that aren't even described in the manuals? Why would you even ship a product that shows a complete lack of engineering oversight?

November 24, 2015
Monitor went out exactly 6 weeks later. Called Acer, I have to pay to ship this back and they will repair it and then ship it to me. I am sorry, but a product that isn't even 3 months old should be shipped to and from at the cost of Acer. This is the first I have had to deal with anyone when something is under warranty to pay to ship it back especially something under 3 months old. I purchased 5 of these and probably would have bought more, (well I know I would have) but with situations like this, I'll pass on Acer from this point forward.

The yellow backlight bleed will kill you OCD people
March 2, 2017
Awful, awful monitor! The yellow backlight bleed on this monitor is impossible to not notice. If you watch a Netflix show or a regular movie at night time, you'll see the ugly yellowish around the dark corners of your screen. I returned mine.
Bad after little more then a year.
February 5, 2017
Monitor defect after 1 year and 2 months, worked great until that time. had one part that keeps flickering, tried different cables different points, switch out different monitors (others dont do it). Tried on different computers (to check to see if interference where it was or if it was graphics card). Still happens, defect in the monitor which is sad. I have 3 of these that I use for programming on multiple monitors, I ended up moving this one all the way to the side so I dont notice the flickering as much but its still there and its super annoying, now i have to order another monitor. I would not recommend something that goes back after a little more then a year.
Didn't last long...

Nice monitor but the split screen software doesn't seem to ...
February 16, 2016
UPDATE: Not only does the split screen not work right, it shows dual link and picture by picture on all the documentation. WRONG. There is no PBP on this monitor what so ever. LG customer service was completely unhelpful as well. Also within a week or getting this dead pixels started coming and going non stop. Was told I could not get it fixed unless the screen has over 25% dead pixels... CRAZY
