Great camera for the hobbyist and semi pro who needs more than the point and shoot can deliver.

The camera and the extra things were in excellent condition. Also, after purchase the combo, the seller added extra things without any extra cost, so I was very surprised for that. This is my first experience in Amazon and I am so glad with it. This completely exceeded my expectations. Now I am really happy with my camera taking pictures wherever I go :)
Excellent "Starter" DSLR
July 18, 2015
It is hard to do a product review in a way because this is fairly old camera. However, the Canon Digital Rebel XTi is a superb beginner's DSLR and is sophisticated enough for one to become versed in more advanced camera use. I purchased this to replace the body of an older XT that had a damaged memory card release button. I thought I had killed the XT as, without the ability to insert and take out the memory card, you are pretty much dead in the water. I figured a repair would cost about the same as this replacement body. (Wound up fixing the thing myself, anyway.) The XTi is a little step up from the XT having 10.1 MP instead of the 8 on my older camera. It has a sensor that cleans the mirror a bit and I think, more focal points. Obviously, the newer Canon cameras have many more features, but if you are just wanting to take good pictures, and have an introduction to DSLR over point and shoot, this is a good start. As I purchased this used, I was somewhat hesitant about the quality I might receive....I need not have worried. The seller, J. Fowler, was very honest, sent this very quickly and the camera is in wonderful condition. Looks almost new to me. This has been a great experience all around.
Nice camera

Takes great pictures. Easy menu to follow. Fits great in the hands. Not to heavy. Great quality. I would probably buy the body only. I bought the kit lens, but I don't really use. I bought another lens that I use on it more.
Best All Around Digital Camera
June 27, 2007
I did my homework, here it is. After comparing the Rebel XTI with the Powershot G7 I decided to buy the Rebel XTI becuase I wanted a camera, which had great reviews in terms of battery life, compactness, picture quality and durability. All in All the Rebel XTI is the best digital camera i've ever owned. It has all the above qualities to suit my novice camera needs, offering a professional image, except I will purchase the new Sigma 28mm-200mm lens featuring the optical stabilizer becuase its an all around lens--for close up shots and those farther away. At $899. for the camera and $550 for the Sigma lens this is not a poor man's camera. I saved for it. I figured the amount of money i'll save in film will pay for itself.Additionally, the G7 is not so bad. In comparance with the Rebel XTI (both Canon digital cameras) at $450 it features good battery life, a lens comparable with the 28mm-200mm all around lens, and a built in stabilizer. Its bulkier than the average digital camera but it picture quality parallels the Rebel XTI.

Love the smaller size of this camera
December 28, 2016
Love the smaller size of this camera. I used to shoot with the bigger semi-pro models, but they have too many bells and whistles. I gave up carrying too much gear around. Even a lower end consumer camera like this can do amazing things. Why fork out so much money for a camera that does way more than I need it to?

So far I have taken this camera on several trips (Yellowstone, Grand Canyon, local parks ect..) and I have taken pictures for seniors during the winter. I am not an experienced photographer so I can't comment on the quality of the picture, although I think it lives up to the Nikon name. However, I can comment on the quality of refurbishment. The product arrived in pristine condition, no scratches or marks, it include a new owners manual and brand new battery. I have had zero issues with this Nikon, even in the

I am using this camera with the Tamron SP AF17-50mm F/2.8 lens and all I can say is I am blown away by the quality. Granted, I am comparing to my 3-year old Canon Digital Elph and not against "professional" cameras and lenses, but this is nice rig to shoot with. Great results. !
Camera with a more professional quality
September 23, 2011
I received a bonus one year from my job and then used some gift money to purchase this camera. I was very excited to purchase a higher quality digital camera than my first camera. My sister in law had this camera and she loved it. And having a 35mm camera similar I found it easy to use. It takes beautiful photos, love the ability to do manual focus with the lens. After about a year the flash wouldn't pop up on its own. It would stick and I would get an error message on the screen. I looked into the cost of sending it back to Canon for repair but the cost just to check the camera was outrageous so I am just trying to live with it. I just wish I was able to purchase a Canon product with lasting-power but in these disposable times, everything we purchase is made to be short-lived I guess.
Excellent Camera, so-so lense
October 12, 2007
This is a very nice camera, and the price is better than any to be found in a brick and mortar store. The lens that came with it is less than first rate, but it will take nice "snap shots", and is fine for a beginning photographer. Once one gets used to the camera and is comfortable with its' use, then I would recomend getting a better lense. I am an old school photographer, and personally I prefer fixed focal length lenses, but I realize that many if not most photographers prefer zoom lenses. What I would recomend is that whatever lens that you get, make sure that it has a metal bayonet attachment mechanism on the back rather than plastic. I prefer a camera lens combination that has some heft to it. My next lense will be the EF 200mm f/2 II USM, to be used for nature photography. I would also recomend that a decent camera bag is bought at the same time as the camera. I personaly like the Canon DG-200, which runs around forty or fifty dollars US. It is big enough for two bodies (I use the Xti 10.1 meg camera and a canon film camera, so that the lenses will interchange.)Good camera for the money, and no better price/quality combination anywhere.
Very happy with this camera
September 22, 2007
I already have a Canon Elan IIe, but it's time to go digital. While looking into digital SLR's, I saw that this was the best bang for my buck. Tons of features and a great price. When you compare it to its competition, the Nikon D80, the price is a lot better. It seems that with Nikon, the price gets raised a bit due to its name. But that doesn't always mean its better. For my needs, this is great. It's good enough for a beginner and is more than enough camera if you decide to grow and get more into photography. My only problem was when I got the camera, it seemed to underexpose pictures. I literally had to keep the exposure compensation up about a stop or so to get normal looking photos. I looked online and saw this was a big problem with a lot of people, so I returned the camera and had a new one sent. The new one is fine and works perfect. Unfortunately, when I called Canon they denied the problem even though it's all over the web on every forum and review. But hey, the new camera is fine....must have gotten one of the bad ones. Maybe they're working on it, who knows. Also, the kit lens is just OK. It's a bit slow, but for the price I don't expect a 2.8 or 1.4. Maybe consider buying the body only and using the extra money for a better lens. All in all, I'm happy with it!
Excellent images, good ergonomics
September 19, 2007
I've had my XTi for just over a month now (bought from Amazon) and it's really improved my photography. Others have even commented that I've "shifted to a new gear". Features are a nice improvement from the DSLR-wannabe I had before (Panasonic FZ30) but it's the image quality that's really the big step up. Get the best-quality lenses for this (*not* the kit lens) and you'll be very happy.Pros:* Image Quality* Ergonomics (most common settings are easy to change, good displays)* Battery life (200 shots with 50% flash and battery still said 100%)* The user manual is decent, though not stellar.* Long exposure noise reduction feature is very good.* Good set of customization options (though the manual doesn't explain them enough).Cons:* Canon's organizer/editor software, Digital Photo Professional, always crashes on my Windows PC and technical support was no help.* Hand grip is too small (height and volume) for my large hand. Make sure you handle one first. I had to train myself to squish all three fingers into the space provided so my pinky didn't hang off the bottom. This is a real step backwards from the original Digital Rebel.* Some settings that I use a lot are hidden too far in the menus.* Sensor dust cleaner won't get everything. I had to manually blow dust off the sensor (with a blower, *NOT* my breath!) about 1 week after I got this, though no sensor dust since. Conclusion:I'm *very* glad I bought this camera and look forward to many years using it.BTW, Amazon farms this order out to another vendor, so you won't get free shipping and you'll have to contact that vendor separately to get an order tracking number. If you care:You can see my photos with this camera on Flickr at: [...]I ordered the body w/o the kit lens, and instead got the Canon 17-40mm L zoom and the Canon 70-300mm IS zoom. At some point I'll add the Canon 50mm 1.8 lens.
I Love My New Canon Digital Rebel
May 14, 2007
This camera is more than I expected. I love the compact shape and feel, and the motorized shutter release makes me feel like a professional. The images are nice and big and this digital camera has taken all my lenses that I used for my regular Canon SLR. I haven't had any problems interchanging the lens. The display screen on the back is nice and big and the functions are very similar to the regular Canon SLR. My only gripe is that the rechargeable battery doesn't seem to last very long. I find that if I take more than 200 photos, I need to recharge soon after that. With digital, it's easy to take 200 photos in just one day. If I go on a travel trip, I may need to buy a backup battery to have in case the battery runs out during the day and I'm not at the hotel to recharge. But other than that, it's a great reasonable professional looking digital camera to have.

eh..
June 16, 2017
I got the camera I expected and it's in good condition except for the fact that it almost never actually takes pictures. It just says "busy" or the flash spazzes out and acts like a strobe whenever I try to use it. I've had a photo class and have some experience using cameras but never have I had these issues and I'm not sure if it's user error with this particular model or the camera actually has issues but I'm not entirely happy with spending as much as I did on a device that does not do what it's made to do.

February 8, 2015
I use this for astro-photography and it's works well. The only thing I really miss is a live preview on the screen and a DC jack to prevent swapping out batteries. The sensor also get quite hot and shows strong "amp glow" when exposing for 4minutes at a time during summer nights, but that's hardly its fault. Other than that, it allows me to capture images of nearly invisible objects thousands or millions of light years away, so I can't complain.
nice camera but has some issues
August 23, 2013
this is a nice camera but not what I expected it is simple enough for an average snapshot but I tried taking lightening photos and it will not shoot maybe a matter of adjustment but I cant find any information in the manual it is semi heavy and awkward for those of us who like to go light and easy the eye piece is small and hard to see through it shows the photo your about to take looking blurry most times if you shoot on the landscape mode and a beautiful bird flies by forget that shot as it will be blurred unless you change to sports or other movement mode the person who sold me this camera was great it shipped fast and packaged great I had no problems but as for the camera itself truthfully if I could have tried this camera I would have bought a different model

decent camera for its time...NOT a good choice for today.
August 25, 2014
This is reflecting a current review since it would only be helpful for current readers to see thoughts.Back when around it came out it was a decent SLR better then the original digital rebel, however still not quite there yet. The issues with the camera mainly is the pretty bad indoor auto white balance in lighting in typical homes and such it makes everything look yellowish. the autofocus and auto mode /ap mode etc also are much worse then newer cameras with better imaging systems and processing in them. even with a high quality lens added to it you are still going to run into those issues if you are a manual person you may can overcome some of the issues by doing everything manually but i am not a pro and i got the rebel/xti to have a better quality camera to get into photographyI will admit the camera served me well at the time getting over some of the limitations but even a modern canon powershot camera now will have better white balance and lower light peformance (on automatic shutter mode)i currently use the Canon EOS M the mirroless camera and i just pulled out the xti to compare a low light test in my room at night with just my lamp on and the eos m flat out outdid the xti on AP mode .for some reasons in lower light the xti and the original rebel tended to force itself to go for longer shutter speeds then it might have needed to on auto mode. Im not a pro. and i prefer the quality of a dslr but having it mostly do the work for me so i can just focus on framing the shot..but with the option to do things manually if i chose to during certain conditions.also other major downsides are no live preview mode which if you are like me and have a kinda bigger nose its always smashed agaisnt the back of the camera unless you shoot sideways , having a live preview mode is oh so much better because not only then you can get more aware of your surroudings outside of the feild of view of the lens too (REALLY helpful if say you are using a fixed telephoto lens or a 85mm lens. plus with newer canon dslrs/canon m you also have touch options which is really handy as well.also it has no video mode option and while some may not care about that, the amazing cool thing about having video mode on a dslr or a mirroless camera is that the lenses you attach to it can be used for the video so if you have for example a lens that has a nice shallow depth of feild it would make for amazing cinimatic like videos which the original rebel/xti and simular cameras of its time simply could not do.back then you had to have both a digital camcorder and a digital camera if you wanted to use both because cameras just wernt able to do video (the ones who could did not do it well at all) now the camcorder has nearly been done away with with smartphones that can take videos and cameras that can take good videos as well.Bottom line, please dont bother getting any of the several generations older dslr cameras they just are much better options out there today even at the "starter" price.thanks!I would highly recommend you NOT get this camera today it was OK for its time but with better sensors and technology today digital slrs and cameras in general really have come a long way since then.

Did not come with battery and strap like intended and said it was shelved after a week and looked brand new... There is A LOT of wear and no way that this camera was only used for a week. I feel lied to and swindled.
Not quite what I wanted.

CF reader bad
May 8, 2014
I'm pretty sure that when I got this one of the pins on the CF reader was bad. Unfortunately, instead of immediately sending it back I tried to fix it and messed up one of the ribbon cable connections, so I can't return it. Should have known better.
At this price I expected MUCH more
January 13, 2010
The problem with this camera is the pictures! And after all is said and done what else do you really care about? I bought this camera for my wife who is an avid amateur family photographer. She wanted something which would take a great quality photo of the things going on around her. There are plenty of super-portable, feature loaded minis to choose from these days. Any one of them can take a decent snap shot. From there, this camera is a big step up in price and a big step down in portability. The promise is that with all it's quality craftsmanship and high tech features you will get real bang for your buck in picture quality. Sorry folks, it just is not the case. Set to full automatic - where all the bells and whistles should really show their stuff - this camera regularly overexposes ordinary daylight photos. It routinely washes out indoor shots with its own flash. And the auto focus is nothing to brag about. My wife is not a photographer. She is an ordinary person who wanted to have fun taking really good family photos. This camera was a huge let down.
XTI Failed
February 7, 2007
After two weeks and 450 pictures the camera failed. Up until failure unit was excellent- easy to use and great pictures. Failure involved total malfunction of all camera function in other than automatic. Service was prompt and polite but online database was useless in trying to resolve problem. After minute with live support was advised to return camera to service depot, which I have since done. Bought Canon XTi because previous 35mm Rebel bought in 94 had been flawless and wanted to use existing zoom lenses. Expect unit back from warranty repairs in two weeks and we will see. But leaves an uneasy feeling with me regarding reliability, plus cost of shipping for warranty.

I am a huge fan of Canon cameras - I've used them all my life and this is the only one I've ever had a problem with. It's no small problem, though.Like several other reviewers, I am frustrated by the staggeringly long busy signal I get between shots. The camera requires 10 - 15 seconds to "recharge" between shots. It displays "busy" in the viewfinder, just to remind you how long it's taking. The continuous mode is painful, almost to the point of being funny. It snaps a shot every 30 seconds or so.I have missed literally thousands of shots because of the "busy" lag, and am finally trashing this camera. I'm here to buy a new camera but wanted to add my two cents about this one before I get rid of it and hopefully forget about the years I've wasted on trying to fix it/figure it out/finesse it/etc. I knew the Rebel would be a significant downgrade from my wonderful old Canon 10D (which was damaged beyond repair in an incident I still can't talk about) but I regularly choose my iPhone camera over this one.If you take mostly candid shots - especially of kids or animals - and feel like you need a little more frustration in your life, this is a good choice. Otherwise, look elsewhere.

Blurry pictures/useless waste of money for lugging around a heavy camera
May 18, 2017
Worthless camera! We went in for the Nikon name but this is merely a facade. It takes blurry pictures no matter what mode we select, whether flash is on or off, whether it's day time or night. Nothing matters - all it does is take a bunch of blurry unfocused pictures. It cannot do image stabilization nor can it record for more than a few minutes at a time (now it has stopped recording altogether). It's beyond the return window and I am stuck with this useless waste of money. I will never buy another Nikon, and never from this seller (BeachCamera).
The camera worked great the first few times
October 3, 2016
I've only used this camera approximately 8 times since I purchased it. I tend to use my phone unless it's a special occasion. The camera worked great the first few times. After that the "door" the the battery compartment kept falling off and I continuously get an error message about the shutter release button which I hear requires to be brought somewhere to get fixed. I realize I bought a refurbished camera but I wasn't expecting to have these problems so soon.

and the only good thing was that they deliver on time
October 28, 2015
I bought a Nikon d3200 refurbished from beach camera, and the only good thing was that they deliver on time. I can only uae the camera for like 8 weeks amd after that I started to have problema with the Autofocus, so I contacted Nikon about the warranty and they gave me some troubleshooting that it worked, but only for a two weeks. So I contacted Nikon again, because they only said "you need to clean the contact points" and every time that I cleaned the autofocus works, but is ridiculous to say that you need to clean your camera every 20 pictures. I will never buy nothing from beach camera!
