Survived torrential rain and wind - great tent
January 24, 2017
We've had this tent for over 5 years now. We've used it about a dozen times, and I can honestly say that it has done very well. On our last camping trip we had torrential rain - and I mean TORRENTIAL. For over 12 hours. And wind blowing 20+mph constantly and gusting up to 35mph. If that's not a test of a tent, I don't know what is.And it survived - yes, some water finally started to come in at the edges, and everything was damp (floor was probably due to sitting on a wet tarp when the rain pooled because the ground was saturated), but all in all we only got a few very small areas of pooling water. The rain fly held, the tent held, and we were dry. That's all that matters.
Pretty dang tall!

I didn't test it before I used it. I know, I know, but I didn't. I took it camping 7 hours away and didn't read the instructions on how to set it up either. Doesn't matter, it went up easily. The velcro parts took me a sec to figure out but all in all, simple. It was way bigger than what I needed but I could stand in it just fine. (I'm 5'9")It withstood some hefty wind and the tent stakes were small metal ones (not as thin as the usual ones you see though)but it did great! It even survived my dog running all through it.Oh yeah, and we didnt roll it up properly and somehow it still fit in the bag. I call that a win!
THIS IS "THE ONE!"

This thing is a camping palace! In the past, I have been mainly a backpacker, but as I get older, car camping is becoming more attractive. This tent is too large for a backpacker, but is ideal when you can drive to your campsite. This is my first LARGE tent, and I have to say I'm pretty impressed, and that generally applies to all Coleman outdoor products, when I go gear shopping, Coleman is the name I look for.PROS: This thing is huge! You could just about have a party in here!PRICE: Do some shopping, you're not going to find anything else this size for anywhere near this price.Weather/durability: haven't used it enough yet to have an opinion, but have plans for this weekend at a nearby lake. I did set it up in the backyard when it first arrived, and I LOVE IT!CONS: The instructions could be a little more complete, but if you have set up a dome tent before, you'll get it.The stakes are junk, suitable only for tossing at tailgaters. Coleman makes pretty decent stakes, but don't include them with any of their tents. Pull out your wallet again, and upgrade now.Side windows could use some inside zippered covers. With the rainfly installed, the screened windows are covered from rain from above, but a side wind can blow underneath the fly pretty easily.
A tent that will last for years!

I am in love with this tent! This family camping tent can accommodate eight campers easily or up to 12 children in sleeping bags as it did when we had my granddaughters birthday sleepover at the lake. The tent is large, It measures 17 by 10 feet with a 72-inch center height, so my six foot husband can stand fully upright in the center. It came with room dividers so you can create three separate rooms if you want. There is a nice rain flap as well in case of rainy weather but Coleman's exclusive Weathertec System is guaranteed to keep you dry from unexpected wet weather on your camping trip. All doors, windows and seams are made to keep the weather out and keep you dry.Tent setup is easy with its shock-corded poles and easy-to-follow assembly instructions, which are printed on the inside flap of the tent bag so you never lose them! It took us approximately 15 minutes to set the entire tent up, including the rain flap and tie downs. The tent also has a Cool-Air port and Variflo adjustable venting system that allows you to adjust airflow.I would highly recommend this tent to any family that loves camping. It is a bargain in price based on the high quality workmanship of the tent and all of it's components.
Very nice tent!

I need 2 people to set it up. My wife and I took it out the end of last year and it worked great! The only thing is that I have NOT been in any rain yet. Camping season is coming soon and we will be rain testing it in a month or so and I will update my review then.Really nice tent for the price, love the room dividers. With out the rain fly it breathes nicely in warm weather. Other thoughts:- thick floors- lots of tie downs- upgrade your steaks asap- could not fit back in original box, bought a bag instead- could easily fit 2 queen air beds or more- nice spot for inside tent light!UPDATE: 6/23/2015- Was in one heck of a rain storm and the rain rolled off of the tent really nice, but leaked through the zipper a little. Just make sure that the zipper is at the top so its covered by the rain fly and it works great!- We never used a tarp under the tent before and are starting to see some wear on the bottom of the floor, we will be buying a tarp to help prevent more wear.Sept 2015:As I am typing this update we are in a severe t storm while camping in this tent. Man it is loud but we are staying dry! The tent is not blowing around to much, very sturdy! NO LEAKS!!!
GREAT, BIG tent!
December 12, 2014
This tent was great.I could easily see 3 queen sized air mattresses fitting in there with maybe 1-2 feet of room in between each one and about 3 feet at the foot end of the center mattress (as is pictured on the instructions).I set this tent up for the FIRST time, at night (using my car's headlights for light), by myself (NOT recommended, but doable) in about 45 mins. If I were to do it a second time, with another person, during the day, I could probaly have it all up in about 10 mins. If you wrap it back up nice and tight it is possible to get it back into the carrying bag too.The build is sturdy and we had one night with steady rain. No leaks. The only thing I can see maybe becoming a problem someday is that the zipper on the door flap. It takes some effort to get open and closed because the material is stretched kinda tight there. Other tan that, HIGHLY recommended.

a must buy!
September 8, 2017
I'm glad I bought this set. Every tent comes with its own metal nails but they are so crapy. They go in and half way down they bend, but this ones don't. They were amazing and I wish I would have bought more. They do sale them separately for less than a $1 each at home depot so I'm definitely going to buy like 20 more before our next camping trip. They go down very easily but you definitely need the back of the hammer to get them back out. The extra piece is probably to dig them back out but we couldn't find ours. They are strong!!!!The little broom with tiny dust pan came in handy inside the tent because overtime the names came in they dragged some dirt inside with them.
Great addition
August 23, 2017
I got this kit to supplement my Coleman Sundome tent and I'm glad I did. The stakes that come with this are superior and held up great. The stake puller is a nice tool and it makes it way easier to pull up the stakes. The dust pan and broom make cleaning up easy. I think it's a great kit to have handy.
The extra stakes were nice too vs
July 5, 2017
This kit is worth it alone just for the little brush/dustpan and the hook to pull out stakes! Sure you can use other tools but why not have a separate kit and throw it with you tent so you don't have to think about finding tools out of your tool box everytime you go camping? The extra stakes were nice too vs. the thin/shorter stakes that come with most tents. I dunno why Coleman doesn't include those as standard. We set our tent on a somewhat sandy area and those other stakes kept coming out. These stakes held in nicely. All in all, very good, useful purchase.
Perfect for my Coleman beach tent!
April 12, 2017
I absolutely loved having this handy kit with my Coleman tent. The stakes in it are amazing and worked so much better than the ones provided with my tent. The mallet makes putting them into the sand a breeze!! I think we used the broom everyday to wipe of he tent throughout the day and also before packing it up. And again, the other thing to remove the stakes made his assembly and disabbemly a dream. I highly recommend it.
All in one kit I would recommend definitely for any first time campers
March 3, 2017
All in one kit I would recommend definitely for any first time campers. Also if it's your first time camping, play that card out so your friends will put your tent up for you. Then crack open a beer and laugh at those suckers.

Need this for the beach tents! Can't wait to try it out.....UpdateWe have used this kit for our beach shelters and it works great. I dont know about using these items on a tent in the woods but on the beach it keeps our shelters in place. I plan on buying another because we usually bring to tents and this kit came with just 4 stakes. The broom is great for removing beach sand.

An awesome tent in the sun, only okay in the rain
June 24, 2017
We camped with this tent several times last summer (2016) and we are on our currently camping for the first time in 2017.The tent goes up with relative ease. I'm a 5 foot tall woman and I usually put it up alone. It takes about 20-30 to set it up alone. Probably half that with a helpful partner. Our current conditions are less than ideal...it is, in fact, pouring rain. Most stuff stayed dry, but water did get in around the edges of the tent, with quite a bit coming in on one side. I still think it's a good tent, but if there's any threat of rain, I'd suggest layering tarps underneath so that the bottom of the tent is completely off the ground. I think we'd still have gotten water in, but I don't think it would have been as bad. The rain fly held up beautifully, though, no leaks from above at all.We put 2 queen air mattresses in, with plenty of room in the middle to stow gear.Overall, it's a great tent that I would totally recommend, just take precautions in the rain.
Good tent but this thing takes up a lot of ...
June 1, 2017
Good tent but this thing takes up a lot of real estate! In addition to the 17' x 10' footprint the tie down cords go out an extra 5-6 feet on the sides and another 3-4 feet in front and back. This means for a 27' x 16' area you will have either tent or cords to deal with. Again, good tent, but the design requires a lot of space.
A Few Quirks But Overall Happy With This Tent
May 30, 2017
We took this tent out in the Northern California foothills this last weekend. The tent seemed to be well constructed and went up easily enough (side note -the directions were all in Spanish, so we had to interpret the pictures, ha ha). We did not have any problems with zippers as some reviewers did, but we were careful not to pull them too hard, just in case. The tent is spacious and we put our queen size air mattress toward the center. I was a little bummed that I could only fully stand up in the center of the tent - I thought I would have more room on the sides, but maybe we need to place the mattress differently. I was a little disappointed that the door required me to bend over to fit through it (I am 5'5"). Also, the lip at the bottom was high enough to trip on if we were not careful. Our two-year-old grandson tripped on it every time! We got cold at night, so the rain fly came in handy to help the cold air from coming in. As another reviewer said, you cannot zip the side windows closed. The windows were really nice in warmer weather during the day, though - there is even one on top, so we could look out while lying down - that was cool. We were able to put it back in its bag with no problem. All in all a good purchase.
It's a bit of a pain to set up by yourself and that's better done with 2 people
February 7, 2017
I bought this tent in 2011 and it's holding up very well and kept us dry in the rain and some wind. It's a bit of a pain to set up by yourself and that's better done with 2 people. Enough space for 2 adults, 2 kids and 2 dogs. There is even a doggy door! It's tall enough to stand in the middle and there is so much space that it occasionally feels like sleeping out in the open. The carrying bag for the tent, rain cover, and polls is a joke and never seems to fit it all. The herrings are, as expected, cheap aluminium but they do the job. Good choice of tent for the whole family at a very reasonable price!
Tent was as described
September 16, 2015
Ordered on sale. Arrived on time, and as described. Easy enough to sent up, clear instructions. No issues.A couple notes: 1-it did rain off and on, heavy at times one day whole camping and it did not leak. It wasn't an all out downpour, nor were there heavy winds. We did put a tarp down under the tent, as we always do to protect the floor.2-Our last Coleman tent lasted for nearly 10 years, being used roughly 6 times before it finally leaked during a heavy rain. Probably would have lasted longer had our two young boys not pushed on it and slammed into it the last three times we went camping. They were rough on it.3-I would recommend putting up a large, heavy duty tarp over top, even with the rainfly, if expecting substantial rain/wind. J use common sense. Check forecasts, place tent on slight grade so water runs off and doesn't pool, use a tarp under and above the tent for added protection and to extend the life of the tent.4- this tent is a great family camping tent for the average camper. It's roomy for a family of 4, easy to assemble, nice features, etc. It could be better, however, if it had the following features: 1--larger rainfly for better coverage. 2--zip up covers on all the screened areas to prevent excessive airflow during windy times. 3--a larger foot mat on the outside for wiping off feet. 4--a larger awning by the door to prevent rain from getting in when going in and out of the tent during inclement weather. 5--more storage compartments, especially one for shoes, like our last Coleman had.
Great tent for the price
October 9, 2008
This is our first large tent purchase and I bought it because after reading tons of ratings on other tents, this is the one that, for the price, seemed to be as waterproof as advertised based on user ratings. It's easier to set up than you would think. I'm a 5'7", 130-lb woman and set it up by myself. The instructions are attached to the inside of the bag next to the zipper (as they always are on Coleman tents with zipper bags). It took about 30 minutes because attaching the guylines takes a little while, as does finding spots to drive the stakes w/o hitting rocks. Once the guylines are attached, you don't have to do it again. The most frustrating part was raising the center poles by myself. They are very long and really could use 4 hands instead of 2, but after fiddling with them just right I got them up in 10 minutes or so. With 2 hands, they tend to just fall over and make S shapes instead of dome shapes due to their length vs. strength. But like I said, I got them up. The sides poles are easy. The poles are color-coded (per the instructions) with red or grey stickers, but after you set the tent up once, you can tell which poles are which w/o needing the color coding. The side poles are thinner than the center dome poles. Our poles were not red and grey like the poles in the picture on this website. They were all black. The inside of the tent is very roomy and attractive, with some gold accents on the white areas of the tent. I like the white - it adds a very current look to the tent. The room dividers come detatched, and attach with loops. The zipper on the only door to the tent is doing fine so far, but on all of our older Coleman D-door dome tents the zippers have eventually broken after a few years, so we'll see with this one. I'm surprised Coleman hasn't changed their door design. I also don't like how the door has a 4-inch lip in front of it that you have to step over when going in and out. I wish they'd lower the door to almost ground level. It would also make it easier to sweep out.I also don't like the rain fly. In the picture, the fly is away from the tent all the way around, but when you set it up, there are 4 symmetrical spots where the fly touches the body of the tent. I haven't tested this tent in rain yet, but the fly should never touch the tent. We fiddled with the fly off and on for a couple of days and was never able to raise the fly off the tent in any of these 4 spots. I also think that due to the size of the tent, a rain fly should come down closer to the ground instead of stopping midway down the tent. So I hope this tent is really as waterproof as people say. Also, the tent didn't come with the little yellow hammer advertised on the package. But that's ok, because for less than $2 you can get a rubber mallet at any major retailer in the camping section, and rubber mallets work tons better than little plastic hammers.Make note of how they pack it, because you'll need to simulate that when packing up. Always use your tent poles to tightly roll the tent towards the door, otherwise you'll never get the bag zipped. The poles will give you a good gauge on how wide your roll should be and also help you roll tight. The instructions give you NO guidance on how to pack it back up.You won't need a tarp. All modern tents have a bottom already made out of waterproof tarp material, and the tarp habit stems from back when they weren't, so don't bother.Overall, for the price, if you want a large, roomy tent, this is a good deal. You can get a Coleman for the price of an Ozark Trail (which leak like a seive).UPDATE: We've been *poured* on 3 weekends this summer, and the only drop of water in the tent was from the bottoms of our shoes. It is indeed as waterproof as people say despite my doubts about the seemingly insufficient rain fly. We haven't needed to use any seam-seal or spray of any kind. If yours leaks, something is dreadfully wrong and you should contact Coleman.UPDATE #2 (6/2011): Our shock cords inside the poles have started to snap. The poles can support the tent just fine without the cords once the poles are laced in and the tent is raised, but it's a pain to deal with these long poles without them before the tent is raised. I'll be ordering replacement shock cord and repairing the poles instead of junking the tent because the tent itself is still going strong. We were in two incredibly strong thunderstorms in the Ozarks last year (tree branches were coming down) and still no leaks!

Nice little set
August 18, 2017
Good for the price. I really wanted the handheld stake puller and mini dustpan. While the handle on the puller is a bit flimsy but I am relieved not to have to worry about another puller coming off a mallet, and the dustpan is very small, not the best quality, but it gets the job done. The mallet is a basic mallet, hard to go wrong there, and the stakes are good and solid. I love there is a carry bag for them as well.
Great but a few lil issues.
April 3, 2017
I like the rubber mallet but not sure what to think of the tent spikes. For my tent a 4 person seemed a little excessive. The broom seemed do an ok job. To finish clean up I got the vacuum. So that is why it is a 4 do to the broom. I think however the spikes will do better for a bigger tent.
Worth the money
March 14, 2017
Mallet and stakes seem very sturdy and robust. I'm not sure if the brush and pan will be much use as they are pretty small. I'm also not sure how folks reported they bent the stake puller as I tried to mess it up and couldn't. Basically, the whole kit is a little cheaper than just buying four stakes and a mallet so it is a pretty good bargain.
Good kit, but the stakes will come out of ...
March 10, 2017
Good kit, but the stakes will come out of the ground easily since they are a simple shaft. However, the mallet and camp dust pan are fantastic and at a cheaper price than if you purchased them separately. Over all its a good buy as long as you are using the stakes as an extra bonus feature.
Buy for the stakes not the mallet
August 4, 2016
I bought this to upgrade my tent stakes, as well as for the stake puller. I just used this kit for the first time on a recent camping trip. I was impressed by the stakes and stake puller. Both were invaluable. The stakes are easy to hammer into the ground with the flat nail like head. The mallet failed horribly. I had hammered 3 out of 4 stakes successfully. As I was hammering the last one in, the mallet head came completely off the handle! I saw that it had only been glued onto the handle. I was disappointed. Thankfully I had already staked my tent because I didn't bring a backup hammer or mallet. The hand broom worked great for cleaning my tent floor. And the stake puller worked perfectly when it was time to leave.
Handy Kit to Have
April 23, 2015
It is a handy little kit to have if you tent camp. We used everything in the kit on our last trip and everything worked as intended. If you use the bigger 10 inch tent spikes, the puller that comes with this kit is really handy. I leave the spikes in the bag as spares after losing a couple on a buried tree stump. The spikes got stuck about halfway and when I pulled them they were stuck so bad they bent. So you never know what you will encounter out there buried beneath the ground and having spares is nice.

It's a good tent and I like it over all
August 12, 2017
It's a good tent and I like it over all, but it needs some improvement.I don't like how it doesn't have a mud Flap for shoes. It does not have a hole for an extension cord, so you need to put it through the door ( I needed to change my phone) It's impossible to get back in the bag right! My Husband and I have been putting away tents our whole lives it's not like we are new to it The zipper always gets caught The zipper string broke when it got caught 😡
Great entry level tent if your in good weather
October 24, 2016
So as far as a cheap large family tent it does the job.... BUT on my first use we set up at a camp ground and it was a windy day not windy enough to knock over other tents but I had to keep struggling to keep this tent up right one corner kept collapsing and the rain fly plastic o-rings snapped that was a easy fix just put the rope trough the hole in tent no big deal. Other concern is that the "Fresh Air Vent" at the bottom of the tent allowed sub 40 degree wind chills in the tent all night I put some gear in front of it to help but it would benifit from a zipper to prevent it all together. What happens in heavy rain to prevent it from coming in. So all in all if you don't live in the NorthEast and you are looking for a simple tent for your whole family to use at a KOA then you found it but for my scout trips I will be using my Ozark from now on
Cold!
June 24, 2016
When the tent arrived the outter bag handles were both cut. We really needed it to go on a family camp out. So we decided to keep it. Setup was pretty easy and we had plenty of room for our family. We fit two queen air mattress with room to spare. But we all froze at night because the windows on each side of the tent are just screens the rain cover comes out over them but that doesn't stop the wind and cold temperatures.
Disappointed in shape & lack of window closings
April 11, 2016
We just set this tent up in preparation for our camping trip this weekend. I was disappointed that it is not a true 10' x 17' rectangle. I should have realized from the photo, but it wasn't clear that the ends angle in. This will make it cramped for us as we normally put air mattresses in. I was also disappointed that the end windows don't have zipper closings (which leaves them open to breezes and it's cold where we camp) and the door zipper is hard to operate. I would not have bought this tent if I'd known these things. Otherwise, it looks like it'll hold up.
Can't close the side windows
November 7, 2015
Seems to be a well-made tent, but definitely for fair weather only. It was easily big enough for our family of 6 to sleep in (without using the dividers), and I was able to fit 5 twin mattresses side by side (the baby slept with mom). The only problem we had was that the two mesh windows on the side cannot be zipped shut - they are permanently open. Daytime temps were upper 70's but the first night we camped, temps got down to the upper 30's and there was some wind. Now, I can handle cold weather just fine, but those two windows being open created a vortex of frigid air that pierced every inch of our bodies. No amount of blankets and extra layers of clothing helped at all! We barely slept all night, and I was worried about the baby, since he hates having blankets on him. We ended up cancelling the rest of our trip, because the next night was supposed to be the same as the first. So, this would make a great tent for summer months (that vortex should keep you cool in hot weather!), but the inability to close those side windows makes it not the best choice for cooler temps.
Ok but problem zipper
August 14, 2015
This is a nice tent except for the zipper. I just used it for the first time and it came off track. There needs to be a sturdier zipper for this large tent. I am going to try and return it for this reason. As an update, I contacted Coleman, this is their response: Attach pictures of the following to your email response as applicable:(1) One or more pictures of the damaged area of your product. If your product is not damaged, please proceed to the next step.(2) A picture of the incident number written on the product in permanent black marker above or on the Coleman logo. Hammer smells and mesh bag is an issue
September 27, 2017
I'll probably keep it but the hammer smells awful. The rubber part emits a strong unpleasant odor. I'm a bit concerned about packing it and having it transfer the smell to other items. I pack it in a ziplock baggie on trips. I'm hoping it finishes off gassing at some point. Also a mesh bag isn't a great choice for carrying stakes because they'll stick through. However when they ship it, the stakes have little ends on them that keep them from sticking out. But if you plan to use the stakes that's a fussy detail to keep up with. Maybe they can be used as nose plugs for the hammer.
Stinky mallet
April 7, 2017
I haven't used the items included in the kit yet but wanted to point out that the mallet stinks, literally. It smells so bad I had to put it outside. I'm hoping it off-gases so I can stand having it in my vehicle. Right now, it's intolerable.
Better gear at the sporting goods store
August 19, 2016
This kit is convenient up to a point. The mallet and dustpan/brush are durable and useful. The carry bag is handy and allows for quick storage in a small space/area.The tent pegs are good as far as holding lines and being driven into the ground. But the plastic heads don't hold up to multiple uses (learned this after multiple camping trips this summer). On the first trip, the stake rod puller worked decently. On the last trip, it bent and warped to the point of being unusable.I honestly think that you can get better for the money at Walmart or a sporting goods store (or just spend more, which is what I should have done)I kept the mallet and the dustpan/brush, which is why I still give it a 3 star rating as those items are still useful to me.
Mallet works but everything else....
July 19, 2016
This set has everything you need, which is nice. That being said the quality is suspect. On there second use, the plastic piece on the end of the stakes broke while trying to use the stake remover to pull it out. The stake remover is also really flimsy. My least favorite part of this is the bag though. It's mesh but the pointed spikes stick through the holes and cause it to rip and snag. The one thing that's performed so far has been the rubber mallet. It's worked like a charm and came in very handy. Everything else has been mediocre at best.
The mallet is great but I was a bit disappointed in the stakes
July 13, 2016
The mallet is great but I was a bit disappointed in the stakes. One of them bent while we were pulling it out. They also have plastic caps on top of them that you use when pulling the stakes back out of the ground--they bend and we even had one break. The bag is a bit small so you have to take everything out to rearrange it and put it back in when you get it out. However, I gave the product three stars because of the mallet and it is better than the alternative (regular tent stakes and a hammer....
Incredible stake puller but crappy mallet - buy this just for the stake puller and stakes.
July 12, 2016
I wanted to rate this 3.5 stars but 3 it is and here's why. The tent stakes are virtually impossible to accidentally bend unlike the chintzy stakes that come with a lot of tents and unlike the plastic heavy duty stakes, these don't break if you hit the stake on the head. The broom and dustpan are okay as well as the bag, nothing special.I was incredibly peeved when the rubber mallet head flew off just minutes after using it for the first time. I even tried to gorilla glue it back on but the rubber doesn't stick well to gg so that didn't work. Basically the mallet is trash and I can't return it now. HOWEVER, the real GEM of this pack is the tent stake puller. I have no idea why I've gone so long without one of these. This one doohickey makes the purchase price completely worth it.

If you choose this tent, buy seam sealer and water repellent for the fly!
August 27, 2017
Right out of the box, the rain fly did not repel any water, let it right into the tent. I thought it was something I did wrong, 2nd time out , same results. Water in the tent during a storm. Also i dont know anyone that can put this tent back into the original bag it comes in. Other than these 2 negatives, the tent is a good sized tent. Fit 2 queen inflatable mattresses, a pack and play for the baby and the dog. Plenty of room. I have since had to purchase the following 2 items to make the rain fly repel water. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000HJ7CLY/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (buy 2 and put it on liberally)and https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000PZZ258/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 , got it for 120 bucks, hope it lasts another camping year before we figure out what to replace it with. Doubt it would last much longer.
Keep looking.

Spacious, but not Coleman's best designs. For starters, you cannot close the side windows, there is no cover flap. This means, if you want privacy from one side or another, you must keep the rain fly on at all times. Putting up the rainfly itself is a challenge, the instructions are less than clear, and positioning the lines to make sure the side winows are covered is not as easy as it should be. There isn't a lot of tolerance for left-right variance in the design. While having the awning above the door and rear windows are nice, the poles supporting the awning are easy to break. Mine broke the first trip out. This leaves the rainfly hanging over the door or rear window, covering about 4/5 ths of the window, so opening the window for air circulation is pretty pointless. The so-called closet is just a piece of rope tied along the rear window, which seriously cuts the air flow from that side of the tent if you want to hang up more than a single pair of socks. Finally, the zipper on the door constantly gets caught in the zipper covering. All the time. Very dissapointing showing from Coleman. I've had better tents from them.
We fit two queen air mattresses inside comfortably and still had room in between
July 23, 2016
This tent is large but if you are using it anywhere windy or cold, then this isn't the tent for you. We fit two queen air mattresses inside comfortably and still had room in between, about 3 feet. If you look at the pictures of this tent, you'll see that blue cover on top. You strap that on after you setup the tent. What you don't see is that the tent itself has a screen at the top. So without that cover, you don't have any privacy and you'll get wet if it rains. The top cover still doesn't give you complete privacy because it doesn't totally cover the screens on the side. So if it's really windy, the air blows right through the entire tent. And if it's cold, you better be packing a lot of sleeping gear. A small portable heater won't help much because like I said, the heat will escape out the sides. Had I known that this tent wasn't completely secured all around, I wouldn't have purchased it. This is a summertime tent only.
Coleman is no longer the same quality
May 4, 2016
The first time I tried to pitch the tent (following the enclosed instructions) before even two of the four poles had been set up, one of the anchors came off the corner of the tent. It's clear to me that Coleman has sacrificed quality in recent years... I ordered a replacement to give then the benefit of the doubt. Update coming soon...
Not as good as a previous version of this tent
September 26, 2015
There was a time many years ago when the name "Coleman" was synonymous with camping to me. We owned a number of Coleman products, and it seemed like they lasted forever. Unfortunately, that time has passed and this product doesn't show the same quality as previous Coleman products.I have a Red Canyon tent that I've owned for over a decade. It's beginning to show its age, and when I saw the same model for a great price on Amazon, I immediately made the purchase. The new tent sat in storage for almost a year before I had an opportunity to use it. A few weeks ago I went camping, and it was then that I first noticed that this is an inferior product unworthy of the Coleman name.Quality of Components and ManufacturingAs I was setting up the new tent, a clip broke the very first time I tried to attach it to a pole. I had to use a carabiner to attach the loop to the pole. I've set up my previous version of this tent many, many times, and all of the clips on the original tent are still intact. To me that indicates that clips on the newer model are made of an inferior, more brittle plastic. On my second outing with the new tent, after I inserted the pole that supports the flap over the doorway, I heard a crack. When I checked the pole, one of the fiberglass rods had a large crack running most of its length. I wrapped the pole with duct tape to try to prevent further damage. By the next day though, the entire pole had broken in two just below one of the metal tips - another example of low-quality components. With this kind of damage after only two outings and gentle handling, I don't expect this tent to last long. If something breaks literally every time I use it, I'll soon be looking for a replacement, and it won't be a Coleman product either.Uneven stitching is apparent just from looking at the tent. It becomes even more noticeable when trying to zip up a window or door. You can feel some of the uneven spots when trying to ease the zippers along. Additionally some of the teeth feel they they are misaligned. They don't look misaligned, but the zippers definitely have problems opening and closing, so I can only take this as one more example of poor manufacturing or components.DesignOne of the nicest things about this tent is its spaciousness. We usually only sleep with three people in the tent, so there is plenty of room for us and whatever we need to store. Additionally, the center of the tent is high enough for me to stand upright, and I really appreciate not having to stoop all the time.Coleman has made a couple of design changes since my previous purchase - both for the worse. The back of the tent has a small vent flap. On the previous version, this opened and closed with a zipper making it very easy to run an extension cord into the tent. On the newer version the flap is sealed, and there is no zipper opening. That means that if you want an extension cord you'll have to run it through the door so that it's in the way and you're constantly tripping over it.The Red Canyon tent has a small doormat. On the previous version this was attached to the tent. On the new version, the doormat is a separate piece that has to be staked down. It's a mild inconvenience, but it increases the risk of stubbing a toe in the night. The previous version of this tent included a hard plastic mallet for driving the stakes, but that is no longer included. Maybe this is just one more example of Coleman cutting corners. It's certainly indicative of the fact that overall this is a lower quality product than its predecessor.I obviously liked my original version of this tent well enough to purchase it again, but the second version has been a real disappointment. If I could do it again, I would not purchase this tent, and I would not recommend it to anyone either.
Poor Quality Workmanship
May 5, 2014
This is the first tent that I have ever purchased. I made the selection based upon reviews that I had seen posted. I had purchased it in April for a trip that we had planned in May. Shame on me for not opening it and setting it up as soon as I received it. Having never used a tent before, I was unaware as to what to look for when it came to inspecting my purchase. When we arrived at the campsite and got the tent setup, I noticed that the stitching around the tent enclosure zipper was frayed and separated. We were very gentle with it during our trip and I expected to exchange it upon our return. Apparently, Coleman and Amazon only stand behind their products for 30 days.Another warning .... with the rain enclosure over the tent, the ventilation is poor. The second night of the trip a tremendous amount of condensation built up on the underside of the rain cover. Since the majority of the rest of the tent is screen material, it became a nuisance. I was awakened at one point due to the dripping from the raincover. (It wasn't raining outside, either)With all the other options that are available, I would skip this one. And if you buy from Amazon...make sure you inspect it for flaws...immediately. You don't have a lot of time.

but they smell super plastic-ish to me
September 5, 2017
It is everything it says...but they smell super plastic-ish to me. I couldn't be in the car with them on the way to camping, so they are still airing out in a shed out back.
An ok set
July 12, 2017
As long as you don't intend to remove the pegs. They are strong and go in easily but getting them out is really hard. The green ends rotate and are not at all substantial. Pulling then out "using the supplied tool" simply bend the plastic end. Useless
Stake puller sucks, mallet is even worse. Save your money.
October 24, 2016
Just took this tent kit on it's first camping trip and I'm pretty disappointed with it. The rubber mallet head came off the wooden handle on the third stake that I was putting in the ground and the stake puller was also useless for getting the stakes out of the ground, it just doesn't give you the right leverage without bending up the plastic on the stake. The broom and dust pan performed pretty flawlessly though and the bag did a good job of holding its' items.
Save your money
August 31, 2016
Waste of money. The mallet is okay, but nothing special. The dust pan and brush are okay, but excessiveThe stake puller bent on the very first use. It's the most ridiculous stake puller I've ever seen. The stakes are sturdy, but the little green plastic bit at the top breaks easy and is useless for pulling out the stakes. The bag is cheap and the fact that it's mesh means that putting stakes into it is tricky at best.
Like 10-20 mph
July 24, 2016
First camping trip just over one month after purchasing tent 1 pole broke and seam ripped out. Hopefully they will do something by the manufacturer. So if you are in a high wind area. Like 10-20 mph. Get a smaller tent.
Ehh Me Thinks Not
May 4, 2016
Rubber mallet, cheaply made in contrast to what you might find at a hardware store but it does the job.Stakes; sharp, plastic hooks have survived their first camping trip, not enough of them.Dust Pan; too small for the tent size. . . . my badHand Broom; too small for the tent size.Overall, for the price you are getting what you pay for. I will likely just go to the hardware store for a regular size dust pan and hand broom.Best part of the deal is the mesh bag. . . . . .which you can also get at the hardware store.

Make the bag bigger.
May 21, 2017
C'mon Coleman. This isn't a backpacking tent. Make the storage bag bigger. This is just silly. Make the bag bigger. Remember, this isn't a backpacking tent. Let us easily put the tent in a bag. This is just silly. Last thing I want to deal with when taking down the site is this. Make the bag bigger.
Only for sunny days and beautiful nights!
November 7, 2016
i am an avid camper all year long, living in the northeast I purchased this tent based on its specs and ability to hold up under a myriad of weather conditions. Used it first in PA in August under beautiful weather conditions and it was wonderful, nice and airy with plenty of room and easy to set up even in less than ideal lighting! Second time I used it was in Vermont in September under rainy, windy, cold conditions, first night all was well and it kept us dry and out of the elements nicely. The second night we had a very rough night as the shock poles snapped under the wind and a bit of snow and collapsed tearing a hole through the roof of the tent! We were force to go to an Inn for the rest of the night! Disappointed in the strength and durability! Will be contacting seller for a return!
Broken and soggy
August 13, 2016
This is a huge tent which is nice. Very spacious. But it's a pain in the butt to put together and it comes with no instructions. Additionally if you plan on camping in an area where it sometimes rains, don't get this tent. The second time we used it it rained and the floor was soaked. You could see the water pouring in through the bottom seams. Also the zipper on the door broke within 2 uses and will now not close all the way. Overall a crappy tent. But it is very spacious. So if you don't need a zipper and you don't need something that will keep water out than this is the perfect tent for you! Also since it has been past 30 days I can't even return it despite the fact that it doesn't do what it says it does which is keep water out.
Not quite what we had hoped.
June 3, 2016
So we got this tent, were super pumped, set it up to spray it with a water sealant spray from Kiwi and dry, which worked 100% by the way, packed it up and headed out camping. Upon arriving 6+hrs from home at our site, we proceed to set up the tent with eagerness, and within 2min we noticed two things...seams seemed to be coming apart in one or two places, and the stake tabs ripped off immediately!!! The tent worked fine regardless. Rained for 2 days straight and we had no problems with leaking (thankfully!), but it didn't get any experience with wind. I'm assuming since the tent itself wasn't staked into the ground there may have been some issues. The other downfall is windows. There is one back window, and one front window attached to th hinge door, then to either side in the tent are mesh openings which cannot be zipped shut, so one of the nights we were freezing with all the rain and dampness. Didn't get wet thankfully, but defiantly would have liked to zip those openings shut. When we got home after our trip, we contacted Amazon as we are going out again this weekend, got a free replacement, and free one day shipping so that was handy; Returned the defective tent with free shipping labels Amazon provided. Nervousness we may have the same issues though with this replacement tent. We are going to, again, set it up, spray with water repelant sealant spray from Colman this time, and see if we have the same problems.Amazon has been wonderful through all of this, but this tent from Colman might not be quite what we had hoped for....On the plus side there was PLENTY of room, we moved the full sized air matresses two different ways, brought in our XL wire dog kennel, and all our stuff with more then enough room. Lots of room to play games or spend time inside. Came with 2 divider sheet pannels that attatched to 4 locations per side. Handy feature. Only two pockets for storage (sunglasses, keys, mini flashlights, or headlamps, etc) could have used one more, or just been a bit larger. Over all nice tent idea, but poorly done I guess.UPDATE::: We returned and got a 2nd tent. Same type, same color, same problems except this time it also leaked in the corners where the 4 main stakes are. Very disappointed with this tent. Tabs ripped, zipper got stuck a few times (no rips thankfully) but also leaked in the corners after a night of rain. We used rain sealant on the tent twice, once when we set it up to inspect and let dry, and once again over seams once at our site. We will be getting a different tent/brand of tent. I do not recommend unless your cool with these defaults.I added several photos good and bad to help for anyone weighing their options, pros, and cons.
Didn't last through the backyard "pre-camp" setup, utter garbage, I'm guessing a knock-off
May 9, 2016
This is our 5th tent in about 4 years, going bigger as more of the kids reach camping age. This is the 3rd "Coleman" I've bought, and I put that in quotes because I think this one is a cheap knock-off. The previous 2 Coleman tents have been durable and held up to all the kids could dish out with no major damage. This one had one of the 4 critical ring tabs rip off as soon as I put in the support poles- pic1.The main pole support sleeve was poorly sewn and started tearing loose as soon as there was tension in the pole from the bend- pic2.The blood on my fingers in pic2 is from getting caught by the plastic clip at one of the metal pole fittings and taking out a chunk of skin. Two of the guy-lines for the rain fly poped off when the seams failed in the plastic rings, one immediately while assembling and one during the night- pic3.The zipper for the main door was barely functional and "jumped teeth" in several places, but I didn't get pics. The seam holding the door flap was particularly bad, was not reinforced, and was coming undone before the tent was even up- pic4.My feel is that this was a knock-off, I hope Coleman would not really sell something so blatantly bad under their name.Coleman, any response in your defense? I'd like to hear back. Any way to ID if this is a knockoff?
Big thumbs down for this tent
September 13, 2015
First, let me say we are Amazon Prime members. We buy from Amazon all the time and have only returned one or two items. This tent is a BIG DISAPPOINTMENT!That said, we purchased this tent for our family outings. We took it out this weekend for the FIRST time and it had several issues. We have requested to return it to Amazon but are a couple weeks outside our 30 day window.. Now I understand we are outside the 30 day window, but on an item like this most people aren't not going to use it in the first 30 days. I hope they grant an exception to their return policy for us.Problems:1st - The loop tore off the side of the tent where it stakes to the ground. It was sewn poorly and now there is a hole in the corner of the tent. I can see where they missed most of the loop when they sewed it on.2nd - The door zipper is of poor quality and I can guarantee it will not last. This tent needs a more substantial door zipper. A sweatshirt has a better zipper. There are no metal zipper pulls, just cheesy little single knotted cord pulls.3rd - The poles pull the tent SO tight that the door is almost impossible to zip closed. (Hence why the zipper will not last) Hopefully yours doesn't rip when it's raining because there will be no way to secure the door closed.4th - This tent has trouble fitting back into the carrying case. After 2 1/2 attempts I managed to barely squeeze it back into the bag. Good thing I'm 250 lbs, or there was no way I could have packed this thing back in the bag. Would it kill Coleman to add a couple extra inches on either side of the bag to make it easier to repack??5th - The rain fly does not adequately cover the windows. I suspect if there was a breeze with any rain, your stuff would be wet..Overall this tent screams cheap.. Other than having an adequate sized interior this tent gets a big thumbs down.

This kit is a joke. The hammer is made of soft rubber and it is very light-weight.The broom and pan is miniature. The extra pegs are nice to have but they cost 99 cents at any hardware store.
Trashed after one use
July 16, 2017
This product is a great idea, however after one use - 2 of the stakes are bent, the pounding mallet doesn't hit hard enough to drive in the stakes, and the tool used to pull them out has bent beyond being useful!! And this was all done by a 10 and a 13 year old... these tools are simply not practical for actual use

July 15, 2017
The maillot got chewed up by the pegs the first time I used it. The broom is way to small to be practical. The steaks were good, but I expected a much higher quality from Coleman for everything else.
The stake remover bent out of shape quickly and was largely useless. No complaints about the stakes or the broom
August 31, 2016
I bought this set two years ago but am only now getting around to reviewing it.The mallet head broke off the handle the first time we used it. The stake remover bent out of shape quickly and was largely useless. No complaints about the stakes or the broom, but I ended up hammering stakes into hard ground with a rock which was less than pleasant.
Yes it is as cheap as you would think! Zoom in on the actual pictures. Get better stuff locally.
November 30, 2014
Not really worth it. I purchases it with tent. Disappointed with quality. cheap version of components. I live in Florida. Stakes won't work well in soft sand. will work in the keys (coral, very hard). On my last trip to the keys just went to hardware store and got biggest nails I could find, worked great. These stakes are just big nails with plastic heads. Again useless in sand or soft ground.Mainly thought the bag would make set worthwhile, not, useless. If I can find a better broom / dustpan combo and better rubber mallet for round same price this stuff is going back. Steak puller is a joke, bag would throw away anyway. l'm mad for buying this, foe the quality should have been thrown in for free with tent.
cheap garbage
September 5, 2014
This item is junk. The tent stakes are nice and the broom could be useful if it wasn't so small. The stake puller is made of cheap steel, and a complete waste of time and money. I broke the plastic pieces off of five of the stakes trying to pull them, and bent the puller itself. I would have to reshape every time I wanted to try to pull another stake. And the rubber mallet is not of good quality. After staking down my tent into sand the handle has come loose from the head and the rubber has started chipping away, probably from hitting metal with rubber. Go figure. It was near impossible to get about a dozen other stakes out of the ground, luckily the office had a claw hammer to get the rest out. So do yourself a favor. Go by a broom with a dust pan and a real claw hammer and save yourself the headache and the backache.
