no different from the italian brand one for more than half the price.

The Cowboystudio 7 ft 4 Section Portable Adjustable Stand is great. I have three. One I use for the beach exclusively because the nuts and screws will rust.I use them with a reflector boom for my small led lights and a speed light with a small soft box. This stand is not for a medium to full size strobe. If you use a ad360 or the ad200 flash. This stand is perfect for them when using the s bracket. Just keep the modifier small.
Great product
October 17, 2016
This is perfect for my ring light and my camera. It holds my light and camera very steardy. It is nor wobbly at all. It is easy to install everything onto it, and it is easy to put away. I think the price is perfect. Shipping was awsome. It came on time, and nothing was damaged. I bought this to use as a stand for my camera and ring light for my youtube channel. I have not did a formal review on my channel YET but you can see the difference from my earlier videos until my more recent videos if you would like to see my youtube channel's name is bubblylioness. I really do recommend this.
Two thumbs up from me!
July 28, 2016
Light, durable and straight forward light stand. I use this in ever photography and video shoot I have. Whether it is holding a clamp for a reflector or a flourescent light unit or sometimes an off camera flash unit and softbox, this unit can hold it's own. To make it even more tough, throw a sandbag on the feet and it will hold more than you'd think. I love that it comes with the bag. Many light stands don't so consider that in your purchase. All in all, I'm still using it on both photo shoots and video shoots and it hasn't broken down on me yet so it gets two thumbs up from me.
Purchased for the HTC Vive - Works Great
June 9, 2016
Using these since they were the cheapest 7 foot tripods I could find. Few things:- Get what you pay for. They work great, but the metal itself is kind of cheap.- I have it extended slightly below max for stability purposes- Has a small footprint and take a minute amount of space- Works great for the HTC Vive (note: I also purchased some 360 degree tripod ball heads to tilt them)Overall they work great, seem plenty stable, but again they cost me $25 and it is the craftsmanship I would expect for two tripods in such a price range. If I was looking for professional photography equipment, I would likely spend a few extra $$
Does what it's supposed to. No collapse buffer.
August 16, 2015
Work great. Two things to note: 1 - Once set up you can't spin the extension poles to re-position your light (or whatever you're putting on it). You'll have to spin the entire stand or if you have a bracket, you can loosen that and then re-position the light. 2 - It doesn't have a "buffer" for if one of the extension poles collapses under the weight of the light. It will just slam down -- pole and whatever is attached to it. NOTE: This hasn't happened to me and I don't see any signs that it will, but some people want a "buffer" for IF it happens, and this one doesn't have one, so I thought I'd mention it.
Excellent product for the price

I've been using two 7-foot compact light stands for about 3 years now (Manfrotto and Cowboystudio), but I've been recently needing to get my wireless speedlight flashes above my subjects (usually wedding couples).I knew I couldn't find many low-priced & compact units, so I decided to find what I could for around $30.When I received the stand I was really surprised at how light it was. Yes, it is larger than my 7-foot Manfrotto, but I'm actually very happy with the build and the height for the price. $29?! I'm going to order another. They get above the average person just fine, and the feet stretch out enough to be very sturdy. On that note, this 9 foot is much better built than my 6 foot Cowboystudio light stand (which I think is a piece of junk, but I'll continue to use it until it fails).Good stuff!Ben

Cheap but get the job done
September 26, 2017
I've owned a dozen cheaply made light stands in my life. I've had two break in the past 5 years simply due to heavy gear being put up too high (and the cheap metal bends). This is to be expected -- and in fact, only having to replace TWO light stands that I've bought for around $10 per stand is amazing to me.They're easy to setup and just -- shouldn't take you more than 10 seconds. You can't really adjust it if it's on uneven ground -- that's not what you're going to get at this price range.I'm more than happy with these, just got them a few months ago and they're holding up fine. They survived dings just fine, and you can toss 'em around a bit without too much fear that they'll bust -- they compact nicely and I've only had to worry about ruining them when fully extended.Buy a bag or two so they're easy to carry along with your gear -- if you plan on using them on location anywhere.
Good medium-duty 12 foot stand for the $.
March 11, 2017
I give it 4 stars because it seems as good as can be expected for the money. Its the lightest and least expensive 12 foot stand I have come across, and I paid about $30 a few years ago (though have used only occasionally). I have put Arri 1K fresnels about 10 feet in the air and felt OK about it indoors with two fifteen pound sandbags as ballast. Any higher and any less sandbags felt a bit unsafe. With such a heavy load, the smallest diameter tube would bend when extended--thus less than full extension on all risers for such a big light. Of course a heavier two hundred dollar stand would normally be used for such--but this stand fills a niche for those with light equipment or in need of reducing cost or weight of the stand. Would stand up to moderate use but not to be slammed around with the plastic knobs & medium gage aluminum shafts.
Pefect for home studio, great value.
April 26, 2016
This stand matches two other light stands that I purchased (which is why I chose it). It is lightweight and perfect for my home studio. I'm not a traveling professional, and I wouldn't recommend this for consistent mobile use (besides, if I was a pro, I probably wouldn't by any "tools of the trade" hardware for less than $50). This is perfect for my needs. One minor thing: the black protective case was not provided as shown (with strap and zipper). It is a thin nylon case with a tie-up top. Again, not a big deal, as this will go in a larger case with my other stands. Overall, great value.
Not bad if you know what you're getting into.
February 18, 2016
While I'm not using these for lights, they do make awesome folding background holders with the additional clip. Sure they're light-weight and any wind might knock them over, but one would have to make some type of compromise for mobility. When in doubt, sandbag and weight the stand. They are light duty stands, so if you're hard on gear, these aren't much of an option. I now use three of these stands for a reflector, and these 2 stands hold my 7x5 backdrops. They fold up in a compact fashion, which one could carry multiple stands with little effort, or even throw onto the side of a backpack.
Excellent for the price!
November 23, 2013
This thing is a great cheap little stand. I was a little surprised by the quality of the metal, it felt light and sturdy enough that it would not bend in half. It was definitely the right choice after I bought a cheaper one that was like $2 dollars less but received either 2 defects in row or it was just a bogus product. This one does exactly what its suppose to and extends to the max 7'. It also comes with a cheap *** 25 cent carrying case that also gets the job done. Totally worth it if it a cheap frugal person like me.
I was afraid it would be too cheap. I was wrong
March 6, 2013
I gave serious thought before purchasing this stand. The price was right, but I was afraid I was going to get some plastic, made-in-China junk. It's metal, lightweight, and seems reasonably well constructed. Like others, I have found the legs pretty stiff, but have not tried the trick another reviewer suggested about loosening some of the nuts. The carrying case is nice, but pretty lightweight, so I don't expect to get a long life out of it.Summary: It works well for what I need it for. I'm an amateur photographer trying to learn how to take better pictures with off-camera flash. I'd probably find it too flimsy if I was a professional trying to use this on a daily basis for paid work, but I'm happy with my purchase and will purchase more of the same as I expand in the future.

does the job
May 10, 2017
light weight and portable, just remember to have a weighted bad when shooting outdoors because of wind. the carrying case did not come with the strap as shown in the photo, dont know if it was a mess up or whatever but i was hoping it would have had that so i could shoulder this light stand.
I like the aluminum stand
April 18, 2017
I like the aluminum stand. I use it for my ring light. However the moment I took it out of the bag a little black piece that belong in the part that holds the poles in place fell right off. I didn't even have it out the bag for 5 seconds before that happened. It has 2 poles that extend but being that the part fell off I can only extend one of the poles. So it does not extend to the full height. Would've given it 5 stars but I feel no matter how cheap a product is, I still feel pieces should not be falling off while still brand new. Maybe after wear and tear but not while brand spanking new.
and not anything terribly expensive in terms of lights
February 4, 2017
A bit flimsy. I wouldn't trust much weight on it, and not anything terribly expensive in terms of lights. I'm using a speedlight with a softbox modifier, and that seems to be about the most I'd trust with it.The carrying case is handy.
OK for HTC Vive IR lighthouses.
December 11, 2016
I bought these to hold the two lighthouse IR stations that you need for HTC Vive. They are plenty sufficient for that purpose. However, I am also a photographer and would like to note that these things are incredibly light weight, so if you are thinking of buying it for that purpose, don't plan on putting much of anything that has any size or weight to it. When extended up they would be very unstable. Perhaps some small LED Lights might work, small microphone, think stuff like that. They wobble back and forth considerably just with the weight of the Vive lighthouses on them. But you Vive owners, these will work fine for a holder for the lighthouses that you don't want to make permanently attached somewhere.
Not very stable, but it'll do
December 5, 2015
I bought this to go with the Diva Ring Light that I bought, and it's really not worth the money. It works, but that's about all I can say about it. It is not particularly stable, and it is a bit finicky to use. I will be switching to my old tripod mount instead since this is just not stable enough to support my expensive light ring.
Good for the price.
April 23, 2015
These things are ok for their cost. They are cheap and will get you started but they have horrid build quality. They aren't terribly stable and become downright unusable when extended to their top height. There's no air piston inside to protect your equipment if the stand decides to give and slam down if you have the vertical adjusted. Still, this was cheap enough to get first my hobby started and then my career. I have no regrets... they did their job well for the price I paid and I was more than happy to have them when I needed them for a price I could afford.

Don't care for this stand
May 9, 2017
This stand was recommended by Amazon for the Neewer Camera Photo 18" dimmable ring light, and the ring light doesn't mount to this very well. Aside from that it's a super light, and relatively flimsy stand. If you're on a tight budget, and are not intending on moving your stand too much, then this is for you...but if you need a stand that you can move around and that you want for a long time, keep shopping elsewhere.

Very thin and not sturdy. I wouldn't recommend
Fatal Flaw
March 5, 2016
At its most basic a light stand needs to do three things. Be stable, go up and down, and turn left to right. This stand only does one of these things. It goes up and down. It is not stable. It is very very lightweight and flimsy. The design of the stands, especially the locking mechanism require a channel to be cut into the telescoping rod so that the very nasty and cheap snap locks have something to grab on too. This creates a fatal flaw...You cannot go to the stand release the lock and rotate the rod panning it left to right. You would have to rotate the entire stand. Err..No thanks.
Don't waste your money
January 14, 2016
These are very flimsy. Now I knew I was buying a cheaper product here but.. I did not expect this cheap. They may work for indoors with just a strobe head and umbrella but I would never try to mount a soft box on one. I very much doubt they would be of any use out doors.

Good for the price not bad, but is not heavy duty (((be careful fragile))) perfect for light Neewer CN-160 and CN-216
You get what you pay for!
February 24, 2014
These came in the mail and they are cheaply made. I Know the price was low, and but I was expecting the stands to be better quality. I have not put weight on them yet, as im not confident that they will hold a a cross bar, let alone a Mono Light. They are very light weight and come in each come in a bag, was expecting to have one bag for both, but was happy to see each were in a bag. I did buy 4 of these and I do plan to keep them, but I will prob. only be using it for very small items, mounting my speed light on to it, etc.. I will just have to wait and see. My plan was to put a cross bar on it, and use these and background stands. but I feel the they may not be able to hold the weight of the tarp and or the weight of the cross bar it self.

Honest review, just got em
June 13, 2017
I received my package but did not receive any cases/bags or covers as it is stated... :("CowboyStudio Set of Two 7 feet Photography Light Stands with Cases"product has possible shaky legs even after fully extended, very light may need sandbags if you are skeptical on wind blowing it overgreat for beginners, but for a Octobox and speedlight flash, I would go heavy duty versionBudget Ballin in a pinch, yes...Long Term use or out in the field to impress clients, no
This may be a good fit on my ring light
March 1, 2017
I just received this adjustable stand and i am very unpleased with it. I will be sending it back, I'm just always busy and don't know when yet. This may be a good fit on my ring light, but I'm afraid, because of its light weight, it may drop. i also planned on attaching my camera on this to make video but in no way i am going to take the risk. I'm upset because i was so excited about this stand, i had no idea it was this light weight. i get it was $19.00 so i shouldn't have expected much from it anyways. This stand is extremely plastic. I gived it one star because because of its quality, i couldn't do anything with this stand at all. ugh. The only thing i like about it is its length, this thing can go as long and I'm 5" tall, i feel like its doubled my either like 3 times lol.
Piece of Crap!
July 16, 2014
Cheap CHEAP CHEAP!!!! I received this today and as excited as I was to see how well my Fluorescent 18" Ring Light works, I tried to disassemble the get up to put away, the damned screw mount BROKE!!!!! WTF??? The rest of the stand was fine, but I get the feeling that if one farts one too many times in a row, the damned thing will blow over and send your light to the ground! Very Disappointed!
Cheap and you get what you pay for also have to go buy proper fastener to mount laser to the stand.
May 28, 2014
cheap have to go buy a wingnut or hex nut and washer to hold light to stand. They only send with a cheap plastic nut. I took my small laser and trying to run it through one bracket the nut will not tighten . I planned on buying a few more stands but will not buy this cheap garbage any longer.Better have sandbags at the base of the stand so it does not fall over. Sad it will cost me more money to return than it is worth. Learned my lesson I hope you also learn from mine.
Flimsy. Do not buy
May 2, 2013
Overall: this is a very flimsy light stand. It broke from a 2 foot drop.Pros:+ PriceCons:- Poor quality- Flimsy- Easily brokeI dropped this while putting my camera gear into my trunk. I dropped it from the rear bumper - about 2 to 3 feet - and one of the legs broke. It was no longer usable. I also wouldn't trust it to hold my heavier strobes like an AB800.In summary: this is a flimsy stand, and I recommend that you put your money towards a better quality stand.
I bought 2, neither works!
June 4, 2012
I purchased the set of these two because I really liked the idea of the "clip-type" closure, making it easier to open and close. And that part of it is certainly true! BUT, the legs just simply won't open past a little triangle. Two of us tried to force the legs open to have the mid-support be in the position as on the pictures and neither is possible to open. One of the legs is also bent a little so once taken out of the closed position little grooves, it is at an angle making it really hard to close it back up. Yes, the price is low... but I would have expected better from CowboyStudio! These are not "cheap".. these are junk.. don;t waste your money. Mine are going back!
