The Brother Image Center ADS 2000 scanner is a perfect choice for scanning two sided documents. It is fast and very well made. The 50 sheet maximum is rarely a problem for my needs. I use mine to scan mathematical papers that are usually less than 50 pages. That said, the software that comes with the scanner is less than optimal. The Nuance software seems fine. Unfortunately it comes with a program that is almost pop-up malware “Upgrade Center”. It immediately told me that the two pieces of Nuance software are out of date and needed to be upgraded. The upgrades cost respectively $79 and $99. Best bet if you have scanning software (e.g. Acrobat) don’t install the Nuance.The computer that the scanner feeds is running 64 bit Windows 10 Professional. The driver on the CDROM works fine. The information on the Brother home page is not terribly helpful relative to this point. I have not used any feature but the two sided scanning so I can’t guarantee any other feature.Finally, this is my first scanner that scans 2 sides simultaneously. My other scanner that has a feeder is one sided. With my old scanner you place the sheets with first page first. In the instructions if you look very carefully in the half page of information you can see an upside down 2 (which of course I didn’t notice) also the first job I had was to scan paper that was more than 50 pages. Thus I needed two batches. I put each part in the scanner and in about 2 minutes it was completely scanned. The numbering of the pages as compared to the original looked like a diabolical shuffle. Word to the wise: put the pile to be scanned in the machine with the last page first and the top of the page facing down. If you do you will love this scanner.

This is an incredible little scanner. Best office devise I have. You can spend a whole lot more and not get the quality that this scanner has. Brother has done a wonderful job with their printers and scanners in past years, this was not exception. Have added them to the office as well, instead of the $700 unit to scan ID's and Insurance cards, this is perfect. A work horse, scans photos perfectly as well. Check the specs, they match the dedicated photo scanners. The only thing that is different is software, and I prefer to decide where my files go, pictures or documents. Works flawlessly on Mac or Windows.

When I first took this out of the box, I was a little disappointed. It didn't have very good descriptions or instructions, and it has only two buttons on the front. So I installed the software from the included CD and hooked it up to my computer...wasn't very hard to do. On my first two scans paper got jammed, but then I figured out that the paper shouldn't be pushed too far down in the slot. On the next try I scanned 10 sheets no problem, and now I regularly put 50 sheets in and it scans like a charm. It scans both sides at a time...very quickly. And the manager gives you plenty of options about the quality of the scan. I usually just want grayscale, and you can select from two grayscale options and varying levels of pixel depth. I have put varying thicknesses and lengths of sheets through without a problem. I am very glad that I bought this product, as it saves me tons of time scanning.

I'm a trial lawyer in my mid-50s and while I welcome advances in technology like flat-screen tvs, smart phones and blu-ray players, I approached buying my first scanner with some trepidation because my computer skills are somewhat limited. However, my local state court recently decided to switch to "efiling," meaning no more paper filing of motions, notices, etc. Now I'm required to file all my court documents over the internet in a pdf format. Time marches on.So what did this mean? Well, first I would have to buy and learn how to use a scanner. Then I would have to figure out how to convert the document to a pdf file. And then I would have to learn how to transmit that pdf file to the court. Gulp.I came across the ADS-2000 on Amazon and was encouraged by two things: first, many of the reviews referred to how easy it is to set up and use, and second, it looked as though the conversion from a Word Perfect file to a pdf file would happen automatically as part of the scanning process. So I crossed my fingers, pulled the trigger and, luckily, both of these things turned out to be true.I was pleasantly surprised at how little room the scanner takes up on my computer table, which also holds my printer, monitor, keyboard and mouse pad. The scanner's footprint is only about three inches wider than an 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper. I was able to put the scanner to the right of my monitor and behind my mouse pad. There is a paper tray on the bottom that pulls out, but so far I haven't needed to use it.Set up was relatively painless. Pull it out of the box and place it on the table. Plug in the power cord. Per the instructions, hold off on plugging in the included USB cable--more on that in a moment--until the software is installed. I use Windows 7 for my OS, and the scanner software on the included disc installed seamlessly, taking about an hour.Once the software was installed, I plugged in the USB cable, dropped a test document into the feeder tray at the top, hit the green button and the document fed through the top of the scanner and out the bottom. I had to hunt around the computer a little to find where the document went but eventually found it in "My Pictures" > "ControlCenter 4" > "Scan." I then right-clicked the document and gave it an appropriate name. Next I double clicked the document to open it. To my relief, my computer launched a software program that came with the setup disc, "PDF Converter Professional 7.3," which the new software had made my default pdf reader. I then double clicked on the document again and it opened, automatically converted to a pdf file and ready for efiling.I quickly figured out that you have to feed your documents into the scanner facing forward, upside down and in reverse order, i.e., first page on the bottom, last page on top, for the pdf documents to appear in the proper orientation. Maybe the directions mentioned that, but I didn't see it anywhere.So now I'm ready to take on the 21st century and efile my court documents, lol. (As an aside, transmitting docs to the court electronically turned out to be a breeze.)My only knock has nothing to do with the scanner per se. Amazon suggested in its "Frequently Bought Together" section adding a Belkin ten-foot USB cable for an extra $5.50. I couldn't find a USB cable listed in the scanner's product description, so I added the Belkin cable. But as I suspected, a USB cable came included with the scanner. I didn't measure it, but the cable's around five or six feet, plenty long enough for my needs. So skip the extra cable unless you need more than five or six feet.

It's fast - totally eliminates piles of paper exactly as I was hoping it would. The images appear (I haven't had to re-print a scanned image yet) to be clear and accurate. The ability to scan one or two sides of a page is awesome. It takes me longer to remove staples and smooth out the holes (so they feed smoothly) than it does for the Brother to scan them. I have literally eliminated 3" of paper in short order - suddenly there's room in the storage box for 2012 records. And all of the older records are now on this tiny flash driver with TONS more space! I still have PILES of paper to copy because one doesn't invest in a high speed document scanner until they are in danger of being buried under the piles of paper that can't be stuffed into their 4 over-filled filing cabinets. I can suddenly envision a future of older records easily stored in a small box on flash drives.My only complaint is the lack of a hard copy instruction book. I am in my 60's and I prefer reading How-To because technical devises don't come naturally to me. Obviously I have been able to function, but I do not feel that I am utilizing the full abilities of the Brother. There is an on-line instruction book which I reference, but know that I will get to a level where I can accomplish what I need to instead of utilizing the machine to the maximum of its abilities.My only other problem is how to dispose of all of this unwanted paper now!

I had accumulated eight file drawers of stuff, and was running out of room for more, and decided to go paperless to the extent possible. Using my ultra-slow flatbed scanner was excruciating. This little machine scanned everything without a problem: Flimsy receipts; old, thin paper; photos, thick paper (not cardboard); just about anything I fed it. I did not count, but I know I scanned thousands of pages without a hitch (except when I failed to notice a staple or folded paper, but that's operator error, not a machine problem).The machine is fast, accurate, and small. It occupies less than one square foot on my desk. The controls are simple, and clearing the occasional operator error is easy. The Brother machine-control software (setting scan parameters) is well-designed and easy to use. I did not need to access help to figure out how to set up for one- vs two-sided, scan to file, image, OCR, or email, etc..The only (and minor) complaints I have are (1) the paper guides are sticky and a bit hard to adjust, and (2) the included PaperPort software is flaky. But I don't need the software. I direct the scans to a single folder, rename each appropriately, and then send them to the proper folders, using windows explorer.I would buy this machine again in a heartbeat.

Bought two of these for an office scanning project. Each one has performed flawlessly over the past several months. Each one has scanned around 10000 pages thus far with no problems. The "control center 4" software allowed us to use a network drive location with sub-directories. We have different retention schedules for different types of documents, so we set up different scanning buttons each with their own sub-folder. These sub-folders are labelled "keep until 2017", "keep until 2026" and "permanent retention", so we can dispose of the records according to our office's records retention schedule.The scanners work great, with the only problem being when you get double-feeds. This rarely happens with less than 5 documents, but happens about 50% of the time when you have 10 documents in the feed tray. If not for that, I would give 5 stars.

I've had this unit for two months now. It's light, quick, and reasonably versatile. There are two issues I discovered that may be important to some potential buyers. One, the scanned sheets slide out of the bottom front of the unit onto your desk or whatever you have the unit sitting on. So you need to plan to have enough space in front of the machine for the sheets to rest as they come out. My old scanner, an Epson, had a bin where the scanned sheets stacked up so there was not a problem with sheets sliding off the table onto the floor, etc. But the Epson was also a lot more expensive. The second issue I had was with the software. Both the Brother Utilities ControlCenter4 software and the separate PaperPort software that come with the scanner are OK for small scanning jobs, but they tend to crap out when doing multiple pages in duplex mode at high resolution. When scanning a 30-p duplex document at 600 dpi I repeatedly ran into "Out of Memory" errors or "Unit is Not Connected" errors that required power cycling the scanner. The software is just not up to handling memory for high-volume jobs. However, after some days of climbing up the Brother tech support ladder I finally connected with an experienced rep who showed me that scanning in Adobe Acrobat (not the Reader, but the full Acrobat program) got rid of that problem. Acrobat is just more robust in handling memory than the Brother software. Since I don't generally use the scanner for anything more than creating PDFs, this works fine for me, and I've decided the ADS-2000 is a keeper. Users who aren't planning on scanning long duplex documents probably will never run into this problem.(I'm running Windows 10 x64 with 32GB of Ram).

This scanner serves the purpose. It is simple to learn and use, is pretty quick, and has a small footprint. The only problem which is getting progressively more annoying is that the male part of the plug into which the cord plugs on the rear of the machine is loose. Consequently, I have to jiggle the cord around when I use it. The machine is requiring a bit more jiggling each time I use it. I should have returned it but really needed it at the time so I thought I could live with it. Apparently, I won't be able to so I will find a computer repair shop. Other than that, the machine is peachy.

I like the Brother scanner when it works but when it doesn't it's super frustrating. Some days you can just put in your paper, hit the green button, and perfection. Quick, easy, clean scan. Other days you do the exact same thing and wait.... and wait..... and wait.... and the thing never scans. You're then forced to open the control center and scan from the software, instead of the hardware. Super frustrating as it takes more work and more steps.Like I said, on good days, that thing can go. On bad days, I'm ready to throw it out.

Compared, reviewed and finally purchased this brother scanner ADS 2000 instead of Fujitsu IX500. I run a small home office, want to clear my 10 years-old accounting invoices and papers in the file boxes, and need to save all papers into digital PDF file systematically. Then I can save the space, trash old papers and just all papers in last 3 accounting years for auditing purposes on request.ADS 2000 is perfectly fit to my accounting requirements. This brother scanner is cost less at US$280, cheaper than Ix500 at US$460 (bundle). Since each scanning machine has limited prints as regular Printer, and my home office deals with lots of invoices and accounting papers, what we require is fast speed, cost efficient PDF scanner to save documents."Continuous scanning" enables Unlimited Number of Scanned Documents, which is key factor of this brother scanner, as each banking deposit of my business is made for 70-100 sales invoices, so I use the" Continuous scanning" function to keep scanning beyond 50 pages until finish all, it's fast speed and easy to create a PDF file without using any PDF editor software to modify or combine few PDF files as other brand scanner does.Another favorite features is "USB flash drive", scan and save the necessary files directly into a "stick" as backup and present it anywhere without via internet.This scanner has two scanning mode 1) device mode (for machine standalone) and 2) PC software scanning mode (Control Center), I set device mode without "remove background color" , then the scanned file is in more detailed, bright and clear, and set PC software control scanning mode with all functions including "remove background color" for fast scanning invoice and papers. I would like to say it is excellent document scanner but NOT a photograph image scanner.

I really like this scanner for my purposes. I'm primarily using it to OCR scan multi page annual and monthly statements, etc. Original paper is then shredded and discarded to free-up file draw space. An unexpected bonus is that finding an item within these OCR scanned documents is so much easier than searching though paper pages. That's because the OCR created PDF files are searchable by keywords. A search can also be done through all documents within a folder to find an item when it's not known which file it is in.Like all sophisticated electronics, it takes a bit of a learning curve to get comfortable with its use. Once this is done documents can be quickly and accurately scanned and filed. As far as filing goes, I simple direct the scanned documents to a desired folder on my PC; discussions about fancy filing software are beyond me.About the only negative I can think of is the paper exit support tray. At least in the unit I got, the tray can be difficult to fully open. It's easy to think it's fully open when it's not. This can result in paper not stacking properly on exit. This is just a minor annoyance that can be over-come with knowing that it can happen and paying more attention to ensure it does not.The following is a copy of notes to myself to simplify the scanning of straight-forward, B&W, 8.5" x 11" documents, single or double-sided. These notes were written after digesting the essence of Bother's 144 page User's Manual. Some of these notes are of my own creation, and will not be found in their manual. While the manual is fairly well written, it has lots of details and some overlap. I've included the below for those who purchase this machine and use it for similar purposes as I do.Scanning• ADS-2000 PDF scans have excellent OCR searchability for properly scanned documents:o Load paper stack with first page face downo Use ControlCenter4 interface software and select: (choose a tab for my creating custom setups) - Searchable PDF - Black & White processing - 300 dpi (400 dpi is worse, 600 dpi looks slightly better, but not necessary) - Advanced Setting tab, select all choices, especially:• auto-rotate for landscape oriented documents• Bleed Through Prevention / Remove Background ColorPaper Jam Recovery (does not require re-scanning sheets successfully scanned)• Remove all sheets yet to be scanned• Lift front cover by squeezing gray tab on top-right side of cover• Gently pull-out jammed sheet(s) from ‘outside’• Remove any ripped paper from inside of machine• Note location of jammed sheet in the paper stack• Examine and fix jammed sheet as well as next sheet to scan• put jammed sheet back into stack but do NOT put stack into machine just yet• close front cover and press red (or any) button on machine to reset red light• The yellow light goes out when the front cover is closed.• reload sheets not yet scanned• Press the Continue button in ControlCenter4’s sub-window; all scanned pages will be put in one file.• review resulting PDF file to ensure jammed sheet and next sheet have been properly scannedPaper Particle Cleaning Particles and paper dust accumulate fairly quickly when un-burst sheets are scanned. The scanned images are clear and the scanner scans super fast. Although, after one scan is saved, it takes up to 2 minutes for the machine to scan a second set. Meaning if I have two different files that go in different places, once the first one is done and I've saved it properly, I load the second file and push the button and it will sit for a good 2 minutes. Sometimes it won't scan at all, it will just sit in ready/waiting mode, no matter how many times you push the button or readjust the paper. It also skews the first page, so if you are scanning multiple pages, the first page will be off kilter, if you are scanning 1 page, it will be off kilter. Other than that it's a good scanner for the price, but if you are picky about all the pages looking perfect and you have zero patience for scanning, try another brand. I've had great success with ScanSnap, but they are ridiculously expensive. For what I am doing, scanning documents in a medical office for paperless charting, it works great.

It's a good scanner. I returned it because of the way it handles the papers. i needed a scanner to scan hundreds of medical records on papers, which have wrinkles, dog ears, stickers etc etc. It will get jammed pretty soon. I had to buy a Fujitsu ScanSnap ix500 and it handles much better. A lot less jam. Much more expensive too. Cost $429. You should get this brother scanner if you want to scan a stack of papers that are in good "condition". And you don't want the all-in-one printers. Or you use once in a while. Every scanner will jam. Software, scan speed, resolution, price are all pretty good.

I bought this scanner for my business and use it to scan client's ID cards and paperwork.Pros:- It creates very high quality images- It automatically detects the size of the document and will delete any blank pages (so you can keep it on 2-sided copying, even if only 1 page in your stack has 2 sides)- It's very easy to use. The software is simple.Cons:- It does NOT scan receipts. The paper is too thin and gets crumpled up in the feeder.- It runs the paper through quickly but the software runs extremely slow and takes a very long time to save. For each client, it takes me about 5 minutes to scan and save their documents in a high quality.- You can't scan 8.5x11" papers in the same stack as ID cards as the settings are different and the ID's will get stuck.Overall, I'm happy with the quality, just wish it did receipts and saved a bit faster.

This scanner has good software, which is a must for such a device, but it suffers from multi-feed errors more often than I would like. A multi-feed error is when more than one page is pulled into the scanner at once, which forces you to redo the scan. It is not a deal breaker, but I have to redo scans every so often as a result of this error.

I have been using a Panasonic multifunction printer with a document scanner to import bills and documents for my business into MS OneNote 2007 using the Twain input. Although the overall process worked well, double-sided scanning was not available. After looking at the Brother ADS2000 duplex scanner here on Amazon and reading the favorable reviews, I purchased it with great expectations. Unfortunately, the 2000 falls short in two areas. Most importantly, duplex scanning does not work when initiated via the Twain input (using Onenote 2007). Only 1-sided scanning takes place. The second deficiency I found is in the option selection, specifically page size. This selection does not stick, and must be re-selected to initiate every scan (legal size is default). Perhaps there is a way to set the option in defaults, but I have not found it yet.I have contacted Brother technical support, and after waiting a week, explained they did not have a copy of Onenote and would get back to me after looking into the duplex scan problem. Keep in mind, it is not clear if the lack of duplex printing through Twain is the responsibility of Onenote or the Brother ADS2000 Twain interface. As an additional move, I have since upgraded my Onenote to version 2010 in MS Office. No improvement here as well. In conclusion, I really like the scanner due primarily to its size and speed, and yes, I would likely recommend it for others, provided they understood the Twain limitations.

EDIT-9/16/13:After about a year's worth of using this scanner, and even trying to replace the roller/separation pads.. THIS THING MULTIFEEDS WAY TOO MUCH. Since the documents I scan are now on thinner paper, the scanner multi-feeds so often I want to just take a hammer and smash the thing. At times, it makes me break down documents to 3-4 pages at a time. I switch back to my old brother MFC and it scans everything just fine.. only at a slower pace. I plan on shopping around for another scanner in the near future and selling this off. Other than the multifeeds, the device works great. Sadly, I scan too many papers that I cannot have a device with those issues.I bought this scanner because my other Brother multifunction scanner/copier/printer/fax wasn't cutting it in terms of scan speed. I scan a lot of documents for my job and needed an upgrade. It was between this and the Fujitsu Snapscan 1500. I went with this scanner for two reasons. I use a PDF program I'm already familiar with to scan documents which utilizes the TWAIN interface so the snapscan wouldn't be compatible. The other is because it's cheaper! Most of my scans are at 300dpi for black and white on one side so it's nothing complicating. For that alone, this thing scans with a quickness. The ADF feeds it page after page without any pauses until it's done. Quality is clear, slightly better than my older Brother MFC. I haven't played around with it that much but trying to set the scan to PC button came up with slightly different results and slower scans with pauses between pages vs scanning from within my PDF program. I'll figure it out later. I haven't checked the file sizes in comparison but for what I need it for, it's wonderful. I may try the snapscan later in the future if I need another machine, but until then, I'm very happy with this scanner.

I needed a scanner to become "paperless" with my personal documents. I researched a bunch. I had only scanned about 3,000 pages when I started receiving a "multi feed" detection error. It would just stop sucking pages into the scanner. I researched online and found the error in Brother Support and it said that I would have to contact Brother customer service for this issue. I contacted them and after a little back and forth... they wanted more proof of what it was doing. I took photos and video and sent it to them. They finally used the warranty to send me a new machine and I sent them the problematic one. I don't know if what I experienced was just a "rare" problem for this machine or what... but I was disappointed. I have high hopes for Brother products and this one failed big time. I didn't even use the new machine, I turned around and sold it online because I didn't want to deal with it. Luckily, the Brother customer service people were helpful...

I've had A LOT of problems trying to get this working with my Linux computer. I've gone through the steps on the Brother web site with no success; I've called and learned that there isn't phone support (and I'm still waiting on a real email back); and in trying to find solutions through forums, I not only still couldn't figure it out, but I also learned that many people have problems.I have gotten it to work with my Android phone when it's physically connected, but it's also not easy to use. I would buy something else in retrospect.With all this in mind, if you can get it to work, this seems like a great scanner. Really quick on the user unfriendly phone mode. So if you're a computer champ (I'm not), and you figure this out on Ubuntu 64bit, please message me : )

The scanner just arrived today, so this review isn't based on a ton of experience. However, I wanted to point out a few things about the drivers and software that other potential purchasers, and especially mac users, might want to know before buying.It says it supports Mac OS, however the disc that came in the box has an installer (driver + additional software) that is for Mac OSX 10.5.8 - 10.7.x. As of my writing this - we're already up to 10.10.1 (Yosemite), which is what I have installed. The main installer would not work on this version of OSX. I had to go to the Brother support site to install the updated driver (not that difficult, but a pain).After installing the driver, I went back because I realized the website wasn't offering updated versions of any of the scanning/OCR software that is supposed to come with it. So I opened the utilities folder on the disc and found installers for "Presto PageManager" and a "Presto BizCard" scanner app. These installers did mysteriously work with 10.10.1, even when the other installer wouldn't.I installed the Presto PageManager Standard 9 app, and attempted my first scan. Note: Put your document face down in the scanner or all the pages will end up in the wrong order. So I rescanned having learned that lesson. The scanning speed was pretty fast (didn't actually measure it though).PageManager does appear to have some issues with the OS; on the left side bar, some "locations" were not appearing, though clicking in blank spaces did change what folder I was looking at in the main viewing pane. Second I attempted to open and OCR the document, which randomly causes it to open a separate app "Presto PageViewer". On the first attempt to OCR my document the Presto PageViewer app crashed. On the second attempt, I opened the doc first, and then used the OCR button. It completed the OCR processes, however the results were awful. The scanned document is black and white text with some pencil underlines, and my own hand written notes in the margins. I don't expect the OCR to read my handwriting, but I did expect it to handle the printed text reasonably well, and it did not. Another note - once you're in the Page Viewer - it will only allow you to OCR one page at a time, and only when they are still in jpg form. If you save as PDF you can no longer use the OCR tool. The only way to get it to OCR the entire scanned document is from within the PageManager app. However, it is from this view that when I clicked OCR (with the document selected) it begins to OCR scan the whole document, gets most of the way to the end (as based on the progress bar) and then crashes (the doc is 18 pages long).Here is an example from the OCR attempt of the first page, using the Presto PageViewer:"uBecause,° I reply, suddenly unable to raise my eyes above his brown wingtips, "Ive always f;elt like a small-nosed woman trapped in a large nosed body.n "AndhowlonghaveyoufeltthiswayyHeleansforward,soundingasifheknowstheauiswerand needs only to hear the words.uOh,sinceIwasfiveorsix,doctor,practicallyallmylife."versus the OCR feature in Adobe Acrobat Pro:"Because:' I reply, suddenly unable to raise my eyes above his brown wingtips, 'Tve always feltlike a small-nosed woman trapped in a large-nosed body:'''And how long have you felt this way?" The bottom tray pulls out and can be pushed back in for space saving. The top also folds down, as one other reviewer mentioned, and makes a pretty good dust cover. Scan to USB works fine. It scans the doc to a pdf with a numbered file name and puts it in a folder on the memory stick called "BROTHER".The software is annoying (driver download and low quality (Presto PageManager sucks!). Luckily I have Adobe Acrobat pro. With the driver installed, I can use Acrobat Pro to actually scan, via the "Create" menu option, and then run a somewhat slow, but at least effective, OCR scan.

The autofeed on this device is incredibly buggy. Here are the major problems with it:1. "Multifeed:" This happens a LOT. The device is good at detecting up, but does not recover from it well. You need to restart scanning from the beginning and you need to be careful because sometimes it either loses your scan or adds it to a previous scan when it is recovering from a multifeed.2. Papers get crumbled: For some reason, a lot of papers get skewed and then crumbled up very badly. The scan fails, of course, but worse yet it then becomes nearly impossible to rescan the document since the original is so wrinkled now.3. The machine often fails to respond to the scan button, which is very frustrating. Occasionally it will eventually respond, but usually it requires powering down and restarting the scanner.If your papers successfully make it through the autofeeder you will be pleased with the scan result. I would say that if you scan a lot of heavier-stock items (many of my bills that come in the mail are like this) you will love this machine. If, like me, most of your stuff is average-weight stock (like printer paper, copier paper) your luck will be hit or miss. If you tend to scan even thinner-stock paper (like some receipts and other things) you will hate this machine. Also, you will have much better luck if you scan things that have never been stapled before and have never been folded.Personally, I'm very disappointed with this device.

I am returning this scanner. The automatic doc feeder jams with more than 4 pages. Otherwise, the scanner works well and if you do not need to scan larger documents it's fine.I am planning to buy the Fujitsu ScanSnap ix500 because the feedback I have received from owners is the automatic doc feeder works fine.Also, the Fujitsu comes with Adobe Acrobat Standard, a $100 value, so the increased cost of the Fujitsu is offset by better software installed.

Disappointed.I have tried a couple of different multi-function devices for creating scans of my stacks and stacks of papers (mostly magazines) with absolutely no luck. So I thought stepping up to a use specific device that scanned both sides at once would be the solution.The first 3 magazines scanned great and I got very excited. But then multi-feed errors began occurring. Lots of them. Now I can't even get a single magazine through without it stopping from multi-feeds. Even when cleaning it per the on-line troubleshooting tips between each magazine it errors. Maybe it is an issue with the thin glossy pages of magazines but that is mostly what I want to scan.Setup was easy and I had no issue running over USB connection.

I want to compare Brother ADS2000 scanner with Fijitsu Scansnap ix500, since I have both and use them for a while. ADS2000 is cheaper but much inferior product for the reasons below:1. Hardware: ADS2000 is much less tolerant to the paper thickness and surface roughness. A stack of same papers which can pass through Scansnap easily but jamed in ADS2000.2. Hardware: ADS2000 cannot tell the paper size as Scansnap ix500. You have to set the paper size, which comes as predefined.You have to use the paper size that is slightly bigger, otherwise, it cuts your scanned page. Unlike Scansnap, it scans whatever the paper to its true size.3. Hardware and software: ADS2000 spends more time to process the scanned images and documents than scanning. When it is processing, iyou cannot do anything. So, the actuall time you spend on scanning is more than doubled. Scansnap produces processed documents immediately.4. Software: ADS2000 uses Paperport software for scanning. It eats the processed documents regularly. That means, after you finish scanning, the paperport finished processing, the file is not stored in your computer, but rather you cannot find files anywhere. You have to scan again. It happens quite regularly that it is frustrating. Very often, you double, triple, or even quardriple your time to scan a document successfully. It has nothing to do with the computer or memory size. Even if you scan only one page, this can happen.Conclusion: To save $100 or so, you end up wasting much more time.

Definitely a disposable scanner. Worked well for a few months until the first paper jam. I released the top cover to remove the jam then tried to scan again. Alas, that was the last proper scan to ever be. It was like the software completely fried from that one jam. Even after uninstalling and re-installing the software it would never even try to scan again. My computer does recognize the scanner and by using a generic scanning software I did get a few more scans out of it but then even that stopped working. At this point I have spent more time and energy on it than it is worth. It will probably go in the trash heap and I will try a different brand. VERY disappointing.

NOT MACINTOSH FRIENDLY. I'm sending mine back. Inadequate support for both enclosed software packages makes this close to unusable for Mac (Page Manager 9/NewSoft, ControlCenter 2/Brother). In addition, within my first two scanning attempts, I got a multifeed error, in which the document feeder slurped up two pages at once. The on-screen interface to deal with this is remarkably opaque and requires multiple clicks, then eventually, starting all over with your scanning process, even if it involved a bunch of pages.The machine itself might be OK despite the feeder error; those things do happen. But the software they've seemingly randomly attached to its use for Mac is downright embarrassing. It's almost as if they went out of their way to come up with a terrible user interface. Eventually, I managed to find the website for the makers of the Page Manager software that comes on the disc, along with Brother's ControlCenter 2. Their support section was abysmal, and here's what I got when I tried to find a user manual for it:"Title:How can I find the user guide in PDF format?Content:1. Find the Application name "Presto! PageManager 9 SE" from Application. (e.g. Application/Presto! PageManager 9 for NS/Presto! PageManager 9 SE)2. Hold the Control button from the keyboard and then click Presto! PageManager 9 SE.3. Click Show Package Contents from the drop down menu.4. Click Contents > Mac OS > PDF Help > E > PM9.pdf.Back"Seriously. They couldn't just have you download a PDF with one click or something like that! When I did weasel through everything to find the file in question, conveniently named "PM9.pdf," and finally opened it.... the PDF was in Spanish, with no English version.

Other competitive scanners put the power supply in an external power brick. So you only need a power cord to attach to the electrical outlet with the Brother.3. 50-sheet document feeder4. Able to scan to USB Flash Drive independently of a computer.CONS:1. DOG SLOW: It does at best 12 pages per minute - single- or double-sided when doing 300 dpi color or gray scans. This is using a 2014 Macbook Pro 15" Retina with OS X 10.11 El Capitan.In comparison: 1) My Fujitsu S1500 does 20 pages per minute. 2) My ultra-portable Canon P-215ii Scan-tini Scanner does 15 pages per minute. 3) My old Canon DR-2580C Scanner does 20 pages per minute. 4) My very old Canon DR-9080C Scanner does 90 pages per minute. 5) My industrial document scanner Canon DR-G1100 Scanner does 100 pages per minute.NOTE: scanner manufacturers often use 200 dpi scans as standard. But this is not real world. Who wants to scan using the same resolution as a fax?I do not know how other reviewers think this scanner is a fast scanner. It is not. It is dog slow. And definitely, industrial scanners are much much faster than this.2. BULKY/LARGE: The Brother ADS-2000 is too large to be easily portable.3. No Ultrasonic multi-feed detection sensor. Do not buy this junk!!!!!That is unless you enjoy feeding sheets into it one at a time or you are only scanning one sheet. Oh, that's right this is supposed to be a "High Speed Document Scanner." Wait it says that it is a "Up to 50-page auto document feed capacity (ADF)" scanner. Not a chance. I've had mine for a while but never got around to starting the project of converting all my paper to pdfs and to date, I've only realized that 1 out of 5 batches (up to 24 sheets) have made it though this scanner without a hitch. What a time and money waster. Don't waste your time or money. Go with a better quality product by Fujitsu or some other company. By the way, I have taken the failed batches to work with me and cranked them out on a fujitsu scansnap s1500 with no problems at all and it is a workhorse. The one I use is at least 5 years old and gets a regular workout.Again,Don't waste your time or money on this low quality junk.

I have been using this product for approximately two months. I can't put more than 3-5 pages in it without it multifeeding. I don't know if I got a bad unit or if there is some sort of alignment issue with it, but this (obviously) completely kills the functionality of it. These are not rumpled documents, either.On the plus side I really like the software and the included OCR functionality. Also it is a good size.I would not recommend this product.
