Five Star Reviews: | 83% This thing is awesome!!! July 27, 2016 Ok, where to start..... The wife and I had a cheap Target masher. It looked cool. Chrome handle black plastic masher. It worked ok. But it wasn't right. Work verses reward was off. You mash and mash and the consistency wasn't right. I've seen these used on the food network and was like those are cool. But never pulled the trigger on one. So i was tired and getting angry with the mashing outcome. So while i was mashing i took a break. Looked up ricers on Amazon and a few days later it showed up. My wife and kids looking at me like I was a dork. I was stoked!!! Fast forward to go time. Boiled up some potatoes. Opened up this master piece of genius. Placed a few pieces of potato in the ricer and squeezed. OMG a thing of beauty. Did it again and and again. Soon the bowl was full of perfect potatoes. Added butter, garlic, salt, pepper and more butter. FLUFFY potatoes. I love this thing!!! Kicking myselfin the ass for not getting one sooner. Make the fluffiest mashed potatoes in a snap with this ricer March 18, 2016 I've used my PriorityChef Potato Ricer and Masher several times and I'm extremely pleased with its performance. I had always heard that ricing cooked potatoes before mashing them made them lighter and fluffier vs. mashing them, and since my husband loves mashed potatoes I finally decided to give ricing a try. What a difference! I've riced boiled white potatoes, sweet potatoes, and a combination of the two, as well as carrots and parsnips (which make a delicious puree). I like bits of potato skin in my mashed potatoes, so I just peel the potatoes, rice them, chop up the peel and stir it in along with my butter, milk, salt and pepper (and, depending on the day, sauteed onions or shallots or fresh dill weed). Just perfect!Since potato starch and water are often mixed for homemade glue, I knew to wash out my potato ricer immediately after using it, before the remaining traces of potato had a chance to harden. Clean up was quick and easy - just a few swishes with a soapy sponge under running water. (If you don't want to wash it right away, I highly recommend letting it soak in a large bowl of water until you're ready.)I'm extremely pleased with my purchase and with the excellent customer service and communication. Took the to the next level January 8, 2016 My wife's mashed potatoes have always been outstanding. I didn't think they could be improved. But she saw this being used on a cooking show, and we decided to get it. We all agreed that it resulted in mashed potatoes that were fluffier and even better than before. This ricer is well made and feels solid. It requires a bit of muscle, but the results are well worth it. It definitely lives up to its hype and good reviews. This Ricer is a wonderful replacement and I am now a convert November 6, 2015 I used to make mashed potatoes using my Kitchenaid mixer or a masher for smaller batches. This Ricer is a wonderful replacement and I am now a convert! It is very easy to use, faster cleanup. I bought this mainly for making baby food (avocados, bananas, sweet potatoes, squash, green peas, steamed apples, carrots, chayotes, hard boiled eggs, etc). I bought a 1 qt steamer along with this Ricer. I will be taking it with me on our family travels and still be able to provide healthy eating for the family. Well made press October 27, 2015 I use this for quite a few things: press water or oil out of canned tuna, press ice cream to make spaghetti ice, press soft boiled potatoes ect. This is the best press I have owned yet. There are no holes on the sides to squirt tuna juce all over the place. The handle is very strong so I dont think it will bend. It is stainless steel not cheap chrome plated tin that eventually rusts. ( like my last one did). My Favorite New Kitchen Toy July 27, 2015 My family loves the light fine texture of riced white or sweet potatoes without skin or long fibers. This device consistently delivers perfect results. Always start with well-cooked potatoes with or without skins. Hot potatoes are the easiest, while cold cooked potatoes take a bit more pressure on the ricer handles. If using potatoes with skin, halve each potato and place it cut *flesh side down* against the mashing grid holes. I leave the skins on because they remain in the ricer against the pushing paddle and are easily wiped away after each use. Any skins that get down against the grid holes can be easily swiped out with a small flat ended spatula. It’s quick and easy especially for those who dislike peeling. When finished, scrape the outside of the ricer with a flat edge to get all of the potato onto the serving dish. It’s a breeze to rice a single potato half onto an individual serving plate. I would recommend ricing into a tall steady pot or dish that can be used for a bit of leverage when pushing it closed. I would rice up to five pounds of potatoes unless there are extra helpers in the kitchen. This ricer would be great for preparing baby food or for those who struggle to chew. (I did try to rice firm cooked cauliflower without success, but this isn’t a food processor and you can’t do everything with it) It’s also great for squeezing the liquid out of spinach for use in Spinach dip. This tool doesn‘t seem to bother my semi arthritic hands, but I’m rather strong, and honestly, it is my favorite new kitchen toy. I usually rinse it by hand, but have also washed it in the top rack of the dishwasher once. I use it weekly. My family was thrilled with the riced potatoes for our last holiday dinner. | 85% Just what I was looking for! July 26, 2017 I've seen this Oxo tool on many different cooking shows on TV. I looked in various big department stores for it, plus a famous kitchen store, but no one had it, so I ordered it from Amazon. It came in the mail yesterday, and I was very surprised how thick and heavy duty the stainless steel scraper is! There's even an inches scales engraved into it!! This will make my life so much easier, as I do a lot of cooking at home. The handle is heavy duty also. I'm always cutting up something, and using the back of a knife to try to scrape up onions, garlic, carrots, celery, etc, was time consuming. I can't wait to use this scraper when I make dinner tonight!! Strong and Sturdy and Perfect! June 2, 2017 it is larger than I thought. That is not a problem, but just bigger than I imagined, even though I read the dimensions, I didn't realize it. But it is great!. It is sturdy and strong metal. The handle is soft and non slip. It is perfect for baking or for scooping up chopped vegetables. Note: it is not flexible. If you were hoping for a flexible one to scoop in or out of bowls, then get a plastic one. This is very solid, sturdy, and strong. Great puchase and a must for all who do lots of cooking and need to scoop vegetables or for those who do lots of baking. Favorite gadget! September 21, 2016 My favorite kitchen gadget ever. I used the crap out of this thing, and have been whining at my family to get me a new one since I moved 6 months ago. No joke, I love this thing. It is fantastic for anyone into baking or candy making. Keep it mind it has zero flexibility, so think of it as a cutter, as a ruler, and as a scraper, but just not if the job calls for a flexible scraper. When I mix in hot sugar for candy, I like these, because I can get the most off of the surface. I also love it when I'm trying to get my dough precise. Very nice product, and a great multi-tasker January 23, 2015 Works great. I always get set with the task of doing all the knife work in my kitchen, so I spend a lot of time at the cutting board, and I really like this little guy. Makes clean up very fast, and you're able to get everything into the bowl very quickly without messing around. It also acts as a very nice dough cutter when baking as well! And lastly, it also has length measurement marking along the blade so you can measure your cuts. A very handy kitchen multitasker. Good quality construction. I see us having this product for a very long time. Recommended For Bread and Pie Crust February 5, 2014 I bought this on a whim, and now find that I can't do without it when making bread and pastry. As an engineer, I'm very careful (my kids say loony) about wanting everything a uniform size. I make large batches of pie crust dough, and weigh it, and then use this to cut it into exactly even pieces. Likewise, when I'm making yeast rolls, I use a scale to divide my batch of dough in half, and then use this cutter to cut off pieces which are exactly 2 ounces. It's much easier than wrestling with your dough. The handle at the top of this chopper is very large and feels soft, although it's really hard plastic. It feels good in the hand, and works well either left- or right-handed. Finally, when cleaning up the counter after making pie crust, yeast bread or anything which involves slinging lots of flour around, this is wonderful for scraping it up without marring the counter, and it's large enough to hold a lot of flour and remove it from the counter. OXO makes good quality items, and this one is quite useful. | 66% There are no reviews yet | 77% There are no reviews yet | 78% There are no reviews yet |
Four Star Reviews: | 8% Four Stars September 29, 2017 Makes great mashed potatoes. I no longer use a hand mixer just a good wire whip. Good design, well made. June 1, 2017 The only thing that wasn't perfect is that there were no instructions for care and use in or on the package. It said online that the ricer can be washed in the dishwasher, but I would like to see it in black and white. Weak potato ricer, Awesome tator masher!! September 30, 2016 Originally bought it as a potato ricer but a cheese cloth works just as well but dang it if it dont make yo mashed tators fluffy as duck. Only reason you dont get 5 is because there was no silver lining in its alternative use because I can only mash tators a small amount at a time. :( Very happy with my new ricer September 21, 2016 nice quality and rugged design.easy clean-up because it is made from stainless steel.I have used it several times in the 2 weeks i have had it.Make sure you slightly overcook whatever you are ricing to get a super smooth consistency.Make sure don't fill to the top as you will have a slight spillover around the edge of the plunger. serves function November 28, 2015 Serves it's function very well. Supposedly stainless steel, so it won't rust. But I've only had it a few months. I used to try making gnocchi by just used a potato masher. They never turned out right. I use this now and my gnocchi are perfect every time! My main gripe is that the lever is a little flimsy, so it clangs around very easily. Other than that, it serves its function excellent. Love it October 26, 2015 Works great. The only suggestion I can make, it to have holes on the sides as well as the bottom to allow more potatoes to be pushed thru. It does take awhile to do a few potatotes. It makes very fluffy mashed potatoes and I would recommend this product to anyone. | 11% Useful and Well Made. December 17, 2016 Heavier handle than I'm used to, but a fine utensil. When you need one - nothing else will do. In the catering firm we always called it a "bus", probably because it transported food from one place to another (quite apart from its relationship to dough). It's a nice product, though being old fashioned, I still prefer the one with the pearwood handle. Nice quality with some reservations and unfortunately like most everything it is unfortunately made in China. April 20, 2016 I like this scraper although I agree with America's test kitchen on PBS where they did not rate this as their favorite because the handle is so wide that you cannot get it close enough to the counter for use in some scraping preparation work but other than that I like the quality of the product other than the fact that like most products it unfortunately is made in China. Why didn't I get one of these before? January 13, 2016 I got this after reading Kenji Lopez-Alt's "The Food Lab". Then I made chili to fill 2 Dutch ovens, and the prep was a lot more efficient because of this tool. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is a storage issue. I want to keep it out near my cutting board, but can't figure out a sensible way to store it there. If there was a hole in the handle, I'd put a hook on the wall. Does anyone know: can I drill a hole in this? Is it solid plastic except for the blade, or is it a plastic layer over a core material? Excellent bench scraper January 4, 2015 This product surely does not need another review, but here goes anyway. I use it exclusively as a bench scraper for moving flour around a baking bench, cleaning the bench, and dividing dough. I don't use it as a chopper; I don't use it to scoop diced vegetables off a cutting board (there are better tools for that); I just use it as a classic bench scraper. It works very well for that purpose. One reviewer was concerned that the scraper is not flexible. A bowl scraper should be flexible but a bench scraper should not be, so that is simply not an issue. The handle is not made of exotic wood, just hard rubber, but it is comfortable, non-slip, and sturdy. I wash it by hand as a matter of habit, so whether or not it is dishwasher safe is not an issue for me. I have seen prettier bench scrapers, and I like the look of a wooden handle, but this is a cost-effective high quality item that should last indefinitely. | 16% There are no reviews yet | 15% There are no reviews yet | 7% There are no reviews yet |
Three Star Reviews: | 5% Three Stars March 24, 2017 Does a good job with the texture of potatoes, but it's hard to push and takes awhile. Decent product, but could be better October 2, 2016 I needed this ricer to make hash browns and latkes, but with a lot of pressure, the ricer seems to bend under pressure and isn't very effective with large amounts of potatoes. It is an okay product and I don't know if there is a better alternative There's a very fine line between the done-ness so that it's riced and ... September 16, 2016 Works well but your potatoes (or cauliflower) need to be really really soft. October 4, 2015 It does the job, but it kills my hands to use it. They just really aren't big enough for this. My husband can crush fine, but it takes some serious effort on my part. Quality is GREAT though. depends on what you want to use it for..... January 23, 2015 Great scooping knife and scraper for butcher block which is exactly what I purchased it for. The knife itself is dull, dull, dull hence why I rated it only 3 stars. | 6% There are no reviews yet | 8% There are no reviews yet | 7% There are no reviews yet |
Two Star Reviews: | 2% Feels flimsy December 14, 2016 I was expecting much more for that price. Metal on handles is too thin so it feels flimsy and not sturdy at all. Messy and not fully sealed!! May 24, 2016 Messy - whenever you try to rice a potato, about 30% of it gets around and above the ricer because it is not fully sealed. Stop asking me for a review. You may not like the reply. March 30, 2016 The seller has emailed me several times asking for a review. OK, it's mediocre at best. The shape of the plunger allows for a lot of material to pass around the outside. The hopper is small, and the handles are just OK. The holes are big, and the spuds don't get very smooth. It does the job, but you need to further mash the potato's to make them smooth. | 1% So glad I didn't throw out my 10-year old scraper/chopper that ... November 22, 2016 So glad I didn't throw out my 10-year old scraper/chopper that I got from Target for $2.99. It has a larger surface and lays flat, so scooping up chopped vegetables is easier. Because of the black handle, the OXO scraper/chopper doesn't lay flat. I'll probably leave it in the back of the utensil drawer for a few years until I ask myself why I'm hanging onto it when I have no use for it . . . and then throw it out. Oh, well. Too sharp for me. April 12, 2016 I had a dough scraper that I used for many years and loved. The handle is cracking so I bought this. But the edge is very sharp. It worked but doesn't move smoothly over my wooden countertop as my old one did. I am afraid I am going to scratch my countertop and it is rather like nails on a chalkboard to me. Two Stars November 2, 2015 I didn't really like it as it's not that great of a chopper. It's just not sharp enough. | 5% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet | 3% There are no reviews yet |
One Star Reviews: | 2% One Star March 22, 2017 Cheap and not worth the money. Tried to rice cooked cauliflower and it was impossible to use. Crappy October 16, 2016 This was great the first time I used it on well cooked potatoes. The second time after using the round presser part of the lever came off and can no longer rice. Very poor engineering. December 22, 2015 The lid broke off within 2 weeks of using it. Everything is solid except for the way the glued the lid onto the handle press. Very poor engineering. bad construction November 18, 2015 I had this for about a year and it flawlessly performed. However, the round metal piece broke off. Then I see how poorly they soldered this thing. Save your money for something constructed well. | 0% I thought it was a chopper so no it will ... December 13, 2016 I thought it was a chopper so no it will. It do what I was needing it to do . Not Recommended October 29, 2016 This product is labeled as Stainless Steele which should be rust resistant. After each use, I hand washed & dried the scraper to protect the finish. It rusted after only a few uses. I would not recommend this product. Dull as a hammer December 31, 2014 Dull as a hammer. It is a bit big to be handled easily, but it is very thick heavy tool and edge is dullest thing in our kitchen. I use to have this tool as part of the the knife set made by different manufacturer, it was thin, light, razor sharp and we used if for pretty much anything, and unfortunately, this one is nothing like it. Multipurpose? I still need to think one thing I can use it for. | 7% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet | 5% There are no reviews yet |
