Easy to Use and Built like a Brick
March 8, 2017
This is the best model: batteries are held better and less susceptible to water damage. On the Bushnell so many times it is batteries that are moving around when not working or get moisture in. And you have to find an SD card that will work on the others. I have tried them all. This one is built more solid, and the closing clamps don't break off as in other brands... A new one came in today and was working in five minutes... putting the batteries in took the most time. The photo are clear and truly stealth. The three setting avoid all that setup on small readouts that others use. Be careful that you have it set on the correct stop. But by far the best brand.... can't believe all the time I have wasted on others.
More Than a Game Cam
November 26, 2016
Works as advertised... in fact i just purchased another one from a black Friday advertisement. I use the camera to monitor vacation properties along the national forest and i go from camera to camera to recover photos/videos. The camera is easy to use as i retrieve photos/videos.. The strap works well although i purchased a cable lock to go with it so i can secure the camera pretty good. I had to stick a twig behind the top of the camera as the view was straight ahead and i needed a lower view without placing the camera too low to the ground where people can easily get to it. I also purchased the SD card reader/viewer so i can review and download photos/videos right at the location, then place the SD card back into the camera.I recommend the following items for this camera....Boneview SD Card ViewerMaster Python Trail Camera LockExtra SD Cards not over 32GB

***CAUTION*** READ THIS BEFORE YOU BUY YOUR MEMORY CARD FOR THIS CAMERA!!The product is just as most describe it. Solid built, quality workmanship, etc. but important information has been left out of the instructions & product description from the manufacturer. I just got off the phone with their customer service about 1 hour ago (1-26-15) because all of my pics were coming out very blurry & grainy. The first question he asked me was what brand of card did I have- he said he camera is supported by 2 brands- SanDisk & PNY. I explained I had a Class 10 32gb PNY SD card(second card I had bought as first was class 4). The new 32gb card I got was A MICRO card with the adapter that comes with it.That's when he told me that NO Micro cards were supported by the camera. I explained I had not seen anywhere in the instructions nor advertising/promotions stated that fact. The Stealth Cam tech guy said it was in the instructions, but I got my manual out & there was no mention of the unsupported Micro cards. I was surprised that he had told me it was in the instructions when in fact it had not.If I am wrong about this please let me know & I will change my rating.***UPDATE***. I have owned this camera for about 6 months now I am so pleased with the camera I am now rating the product 5 stars instead of the three stars I first rated it due to the SPECIFIC type of memory card. The recommended card is the full size Card that is a type 10 NOT A MICRO with the adapter whether it is a Type 10 or not. These memory cards have super fast transfer rates so the abilities of the camera can be seen in perfect clarity. BTW- go ahead & spend the few extra dollars for the Energizer Ultimate batteries they really work well. I had the camera out for about 6 weeks taking LOTS of pics, etc, the batteries were still full strength. Picture clarity, distance of detection, & excellent camera standby to help make an excellent product. New 5 star rating for camera because it's AWESOME! Just make sure to get the right memory card & use the best batteries
Stealth Cam Has Really Jumped into the Game with the G42
November 19, 2014
Stealth Cam has really outdone themselves with coming out with the G42 No Glow. I set this up on one of my feeding stations and found it to have a really good battery life(Make sure to use good batteries and not CVS or Walgreen cheepoes). Stealth Cam has also recreated a name for themselves in my book on the image quality both day and night too. The G42 no glow has one of the brightest infrared no glow flashes I've found on the market today. I have some of the older low glow Stealth Cams and the image quality wasn't good day or night.I'm so impressed that I took the time to provide feedback along with some photos taken recently with the camera.
Stealth Cam G42 Review
October 9, 2014
Have been using Stealth Cam cameras since they first became available, many years ago. The G42 is a quality camera and certainly far removed from some of the earlier models. Small, compact, well made camera. Picture resolution excellent and no issues during first month in the field. Sounds like battery life will be much longer than in the past, though I use external battery packs (with solar chargers) on all of my cameras. That raises the one con in my mind. The face screen completely shuts off after setup and it appears that the camera needs to be shut off and turned back on to see how many pictures are on the disk. I'm certain that this is a battery saver, but is somewhat inconvenient. Liked the camera enough though, that I promptly purchased two more. My cameras remain in the field 24/7 for as long as they function. Will provide and update in a year or so! Only wish that not everyone is only making IR models these days. The flash is nice for quality nighttime pictures and has no detectable effect on animals coming to a food source. This camera would be incredible for me, if it was flash!!This is an update at the nine month point. Have multiple G42s in the field, both in the heat of Texas and the NE weather of Pennsylvania. All have worked flawlessly and I have purchased more. The most remarkable points in these new cameras by Stealthcam are the reliability and the battery savings. With the external battery packs and solar chargers it appears that I can go for months without a battery change out. We were always changing out batteries frequently, during the cold winter months in the NE. We went entirely through last winter and now well into the Spring without changing a battery!UPDATE: These cameras have been in the field 24/7 for over two years now and have worked flawlessly. I have not had a single failure and have about a dozen of these cameras. I average about 60,000 pictures per camera, per year (one minute recycling tine), so these cameras have been excellent. I've been so impressed that I've just upgraded my review to five stars. Just ordered two more today at Amazon sale price to keep in reserve. Great camera!! Now if they would only make a similar model with flash, so that I could get great, night time pictures.
Highly Recommend
September 27, 2014
Bought this camera along with a Browning Dark Ops, Bushnell Trophy Cam HD Max and a Bushnell Throphy Cam HD. This camera is just as good as my Bushnell's for daytime use and much better than the Bushnell's for night use. Detection range varies with setup but as worked as far out as 70'. The Bushnell's trigger speed is faster but not by much. And for whatever reason this camera saves files in a form that shows the image in the icon making it easy to scan through files whereas the Bushnell's and Browning show a geneic icon and you have to click on each one to see if anything is in the picture. Probably just a setting on my computer though. Long story short, if I had to buy a fifth camera I would buy this camera again or the Bushnell Trophy Cam HD with a external IR flash. The hybrid mode on the Bushnell's is very nice. The Browning cam didn't compare with the other three I've mentioned, HD video was very grainy but did have decent detection range and night IR.

I do like this camera as the preset pic and video settings ...
September 7, 2017
I do like this camera as the preset pic and video settings are all I need to use. There's no need for complicated button pushing to set up. However, the SD card, due to it's location at the door seal, can be quite difficult to get out of the cam and if your hands are cold it can be next to impossible. The only way this is solved is to carry a set of plastic tweezers.
Overall very satisfied. Easy to set up
May 24, 2017
Have been using this camera for about three weeks now. My drive way did not provide the game traffic expected but did catch what was there. Both day and night. Still trying different mounting locations, as some movement may be detected by wind action on nearby foliage. Pictures with no subject visible. Overall very satisfied. Easy to set up. Read out pictures via USB to my Mac, no problem. Just be sure to eject from device before pulling the plug, as anyone should know.
Great camera for the backyard
April 26, 2017
Works well! Once the batteries hit 50% or so, it seems to stop taking night shots, however. I need to play more with the custom timing of shots, as I tend to get a few more south ends of the northbound beast than I like, but it works well at the defaults. SD card is placed at an awkward spot, but after popping it up, a fingernail can be used to pull it out to where manly hands can grasp it. The strap over time has not worn well, and is now quite frayed though still serviceable.
Better than a cheaper Moultry brand model I previously bought
January 7, 2017
I have three of these now, two of them are two years old so far. Better than a cheaper Moultry brand model I previously bought, those both died quickly. This stealth cam takes very nice crisp photos, and love the burst goes up to 9 photos, as not everything just walks by. It will get some good action shots of just about anything. Even got a great shot of an elusive bobcat!I do have my complaints though. The strap is made of almost a biodegradable material that just plain disintegrates in the sun and weather. If you just stick it on a tree once and leave it, it might not affect your use. However if you try to move it around every once and a while, pulling on it to unthread it from the ladder lock buckle just starts ripping the material apart after even just a year. Also, I wish the strap was a "clip together" rather than an annoying thread-through ladder lock buckle that you have to pull the whole length of strap out to remove it, and thread it all the way back through again to install. That may sound lazy to you, but all the trees in my forest are only about a 24" circumference then there is another two to three feet of strap to try and pull through. Last gripe, when the memory card gets full, the camera does not stop taking photos. So instead of being smart enough to turn itself off, it stays on. While I can't fully confirm, it appears to keep trying taking photos and expending energy on infrared until it kills the batteries. There is no need for this when it knows it cannot store the footage, it should just turn off. PS spend the money on the higher end batteries. In colder weather, they perform better. I have found that in below zero weather there can be plenty of prints but no photos, presumably because the batteries could not perform. When the weather warms up, it turns back on shooting photos where it left off before the cold snap.
Really good camera.
August 2, 2016
I've been able to catch video clips of neighbor cats and racoons rummaging and doing their business. It showed me where to place my scarecrow motion sprinkler and now I have no night visitors. I really like this camera for it's clarity in both still pics and video, both day and night. The video is a bit short (10 seconds) and it sometimes doesn't come on right away when something crosses the lens. I've tested this by walking across the field of view and it picks me up when I'm walking away.
The newer trail camera works great for getting pictures without deer spooking
August 22, 2015
(2014 Version) The first camera I got was a dud. However, Amazon promptly replaced the camera. This is typically of all trail cameras (I have Moultrie, Browning, Covert, and Stealth Cams). The newer trail camera works great for getting pictures without deer spooking. The pictures are a bit grainy at night, but all black flash cameras have that downside unfortunately. I used this camera during the 2014 season and since July of 2015. I have attached 7 pictures to give an idea of day/night pictures. What I Like: Black flash day pictures (no deer spooking) Fast Trigger time (0.5 second) Motion pictures are good (not many blurry motion pictures) Day pictures are good Very few false triggers which means fewer worthless pictures to scroll throughWhat I don't Like: It's thick which is good, but it's a strap with a buckle Video file size is large Slow Recovery Time (or time in between pictures) - 6 seconds Night pictures are a bit grainy, particularly pictures at 40-50 ft or more (if this is a problem consider a low-glow camera)On Par with Most cameras: Size (5.5" x 4" x 2.75") Programming on the custom setting is easy enough Battery Life seems standardI hope this review helps you in your decision. Disapointed in Picture Quality - Easy set up- Shopping for Game Cams again... these did not meet expectations at all
September 23, 2017
works fine- easy to set up - BUT quite disappointed in picture quality, especially the night picture quality. Frankly my cheap almost 10 year old camera - which these were intended to replace - take much better pictures. Now I am shopping to replace these. My opinion -- try something else- most anything else will be as good or better.
Not the most reliable trigger.
September 23, 2017
Difficult to get chip inserted reliably. Have to work on it a lot to get it to "click". Also, does not seem to trigger reliably. Often ,I just get the rump of a deer moving across field at the end of a 10-sec. clip. Format of movie clips puts control bar over the important date/time info, so it is hard to read.
Good Camera, Amazing Amazon Service.
September 1, 2016
This is the second one of these I have received. The first one was DOA (dead on arrival). I tried a couple of sets of batteries and then just returned it to Amazon. This is why I shop on Amazon. They made the return process crazy easy and shipped a replacement before I even had a chance to send the bad one back.As for the camera, I have only had it for a day. I found it easy to program the custom settings. I set it up in the house and it took great full dark pictures of the dog moving around. It is now deployed to catch mail thieves near our rural mail boxes. I'll update this after a few days and nights of operation.
Still Looking
June 25, 2016
I'm still learning with this camera. Adjusting the proper height for the right pics, and movement has been a chore. The SD Card Holder is a little difficult for my big fingers to grip securely, and I dropped the card once. Almost didn't find it. It takes several seconds to snap a shot once movement is detected. Some critters, people , and vehicles are barely caught on cam as they cross the cams view. I got this particular cam because of its claimed clarity. It is better than much more expensive cams, but then there's where proper adjustments come in to play, and I just haven't figured it all out yet. May never.
I like the performance of the cameras
November 10, 2015
One of the reasons I bought this camera was because of the no glo feature. The other reason was battery life. After reading reviews I purchased two of these cameras. I like the performance of the cameras. Day and night time pics are very nice. However, the battery life is not as good as advertised. These cameras are set up over bait so they do take a lot of pics each day. I am getting around a month out of each set of batteries. And they are high end lithium batteries. I have some Bushnell trophy cams and have never had to change the batteries in an entire year. Again I like the no go feature and the pic quality is nice, but battery life is not as advertised.
Great Camera! Maybe I just got a bad one in the bunch!
June 29, 2015
Disappointed! I set the camera up at my hunting site and received great pictures day and night for a couple of weeks. Then all of a sudden the camera would not record pictures at night. I tried all the settings and none would take pictures at night. I have not given up on this type of camera because I thought the pictures it too were great. I have returned this camera and replaced it with the same type camera.

StealthCam G42
September 7, 2017
I received the camera on time. It was not damaged. I have one just like it for two years now and it has been great. This one not so much. I could program it just fine but when I turned it off and turned it back on it would lose the time and date. I called the vendor at their request and they told me they could not help me, I had to call the Factory. After three phone conversations with the factory we could not resolve the issue. I had to send it back to the factory at my expense. I am waiting on a replacement.
Too slow for real effectiveness
June 3, 2017
I bought this cam for surveillance on my property at night. The motion detector is at least 3 seconds too slow. The pics and video were fine quality but there were no animals or people in them, only their fleeing back foot or leg. I returned the item.
what is going on?
March 7, 2017
Researched, liked price and reviews. Received it last week. Put in new batts. checked out fine. Pictures and video did great on laptop. set it up pointed at next door neighbor to bug them. Left it there for two days. Checked disk, nothing on it. One of two things happened. 1. I screwed it up which I do not see how. 2. Camera stopped working. Will try it one more time then return it for a refund.
Woodbury is Fantastic, GSM Stealth is not
April 15, 2015
Let me start by saying Woodbury Outfitters - YOU ROCK! They sold the camera through Amazon. I loved the camera but it failed within 9 months - just stopped taking night photos - when I contact the manufacturer, GSM Stealth Cam the manufacturer, they were just point blank terrible. They provided minimal if any technical support and would not stay on the line while I tried their suggestions "just call us back later if it still doesn't work...." So I found great suggestion in other Amazon reviews, FAR more than anything GSM knew or cared to know about their product. So when I had fully triaged my issue, alone, I called back GSM to say, the camera does not work and it is still under warranty - and HA! Wasn't the joke on me - they treated me like I had done something wrong and that , really what did I expect, it was almost a year old! I stated again that it was under their warranty, and after the "customer service" rep sighed, like fine, I was informed that I had to pay to ship it back to them, and no I would not get a new product, I would only get a refurbished unit.I was so upset, that I thought I would contact Amazon and Woodbury just in case someone had a better idea - and Woodbury came through with flying colors - they gladly and kindly sent me a shipping label and provided me with a new camera. Now that is a company you can stand behind because they clearly care about their customers. Woodbury you get a 10! GSM, you get a ZERO!
Probably best there is, and yet, a dissappointment
April 8, 2015
I bought this to replace a 5 year old camera that was getting flaky.Pros: IR illumination is invisible to me, (old camera glowed red).Night images are 1/15 second or 1/40 second exposure depending on setting (old camera was 1 second exposure).IR illumination illuminates much more area than old cameraThe number of photographs taken appears in the LCD display for a short time after the camera has triggerd, and for a short time after the camera has been turned off.Cons: No trigger sensitivity adjustment. (old camera had 3 settings)Night images have so much noise that people are mostly unrecognisable.Highest quality video is only 720P/30.Deer walking slowly was halfway through the frame before video started. One must be below the camera to read the LCD display, if your head is above the cameras line of site, the LCD display appears blank. The camera has trouble with some SD cards. There is no electrical difference between a uSD card in an adaptor and a full sized card (take apart an adaptor some time, you will only find wires, no components), yet some have claimed that the timestamps were missing. I had the same trouble when I tried a 64GB SD card. Whether it was formatted with exFAT, or FAT (the cameras format command only erased the card, it did not change the format type) the camera would put a date stamp on only about half of the pictures, and that date stamp would be an hour off from the correct time stamp recorded in the pictures meta-data. Two of the three times I attempted to use the 64GB card, it refused to take photos at night. I put a different 32GB card in the camera, and the timestamps matched the pictures meta-data, I did not have any trouble with night photos, and all photo files had time stamps. What I should have gotten for this amount of money:clear night photos at 1/60 second exposure where people in the frame are recognizable, not blurry blobs.1080P/60 video recordingVideo that continued recording until it has recorded a specified time since it last detected motion (look up re-triggerable one shot). If there is still something in front of the camera, KEEP FILMING!All of these things are possible today, most of them are software. The night sensitivity problem could easily be solved with a larger imaging sensor, and a bigger lens, but that costs money, and would cut into their profit margin.I don't need more mega-pixels, I need better use of the pixels.Edit: I have now had the camera for two months. The device is reporting the batteries at 40-50%, and it has stopped taking pictures at night. All the batteries measure in the green on a battery tester. This is very dissapointing battery life. dropping my rating by a star.Edit #2: I just noticed that the clock in this camera has gained 9 minutes in three months. My old camera was within 15 seconds of the correct time, and it has not been adjusted since Daylight Savings began. (todays date: 2015/06/12)
OK but not terrific. Battery life not good.
November 21, 2014
This cam is inexpensive considering the quality of the photos. However I used it next to a time lapse cam taking pics every 5 seconds and it missed many photo opportunities of animal activity. My guess is the proximity sensor isn't so great. Also unlike other positive battery usage reviews, I have to replace batteries weekly (shooting approx 200 pics per 24 hours). Also when the battery level gets below 40%, the night capability is gone ... i.e. it won't take photos at night when the battery level is less than 40% ... which means in my particular case a new set of batteries will last about 4 or 5 days/nights for night photography. On the plus side, the photos are of better quality than my other trail cams. .................... after another few days of use I am very disappointed in battery life and am revising my 3 star rating down to two stars. A set of 8 new duracell alkaline batteries is good for 369 photos on my cam, which is about 36 hours of use in my location. Also my other time lapse cam shows that this cam is missing many photo opportunities. For my purposes this cam is not suitable to use as a trail cam due to missed photo opportunities and the necessity to change batteries every two days.

went through 3 of these cameras because of the good reviews - all duds - high quality 32Gb SD cards, formatted on camera - missed so much stuff - no recording of video sometimes when animals 5 feet away - when it did the video was all distorted, and flashing and jumping like crazy
Maybe it was just this one, but i doubt it.

Sloooow reaction time, and the photos and videos were all tinted blue.
Camera sensitivity is terrible, I personally watched deer walk within 30 ft
January 5, 2017
Camera sensitivity is terrible, I personally watched deer walk within 30 ft. of this camera on three occasions in daylight and no picture was taken. Not enough pictures taken through the night to account for the amount of bait eaten. I bought this camera for its long range capabilities quoted in it's specs. What a disappointment !!!
Good reaction time
September 3, 2015
I had the camera out for about two months, and it seemed to take high quality pictures. Good reaction time, and very little to no blur. The camera was VERY picky with the SD cards, and often would not write on them. I lost several weeks because it would randomly stop writing on the cards. I did some research and discovered it really only like the nicer sandisk cards, and that the card cannot be shared with any other trail cameras (such as my browning). The card must be a clear/clean format. After two months I noticed the camera would not always turn on, and when it would turn on it would not read any SIM card. I called stealthcam, who made me do a few things and call back the next day to ensure it was not moisture related. The next day they agreed to have it returned.I was quoted a two week turn around, worst case three weeks. I shipped it off with plenty of time to get it back to get it back out and help me set up for the upcoming season.Three weeks later I call. They couldnt even tell me if they got my trail camera, that they cannot status them and that I would just have to wait. I was told that the turn around time is actually 3-5 weeks. I express my frustration to them.I call back after 5 weeks, and I'm told it's on back order and they dont know when they will have it. They suggest calling back in another week and they may be able to get a different model. I ask if they can send me a gift card and I can buy one at a retail store since the season is about to start here, and they said next week they can work with me to do that. While speaking to the same representative they mention they cannot do gift cards, despite telling me to call back to do just that - which I pointed out to the rep, who became frustrated with me.I call back a week later, they tell me that to get a different model requires corporate approval but that they will ask and follow up with me same day. Never heard back. Next business day (today), I get a voicemail that they got some in stock and are backfilling the waitlisted returns, and that mine will be included in that and it should ship out within 10 business days.I would not suggest buying any stealthcam product after this horrible display of customer service. I had to go out and buy a different trail camera because I cannot wait any longer. If this item breaks again, I'm not sure I will even send it back just so I can avoid dealing with the frustration. I've had several trail cams and this has been by far the worst experience with a return.
Did not work well for me.
May 14, 2015
This item was returned as photos were very intermittent. Did not pick up cars or humans. It may have been a bad unit.
