Five Star Reviews: | 63% Nice Quality Fire Grate July 29, 2017 We only used this one season, but it did the job and does not show any evidence of burning out. I like it much better than the wide-runged grate we had previously. Smokin' hot! April 23, 2017 Prefect fit for my fireplace. Well built and sturdy. Holds plenty of wood for a roaring fire! Very thick and works better than the cheaper ones we had before March 28, 2017 Very thick and works better than the cheaper ones we had before. Fire can get hot and not melt the welds because it is all one piece. Would recommend to anyone needing a fireplace rack that this would fit in. I melted my previous fireplace grate... January 29, 2017 I use my fireplace a lot, and my previous grate had to suffer through a lot. The poor thing eventually melted, and I had to throw it out once it fell apart. The Panacea Cast Iron Fire Grate was my replacement, and my research payed off. I heat my home with the fireplace I have in my apartment, and because of this I burn black locust most of the time. Black locust burns long and hot, and so I needed a thick and durable grate that would be able to withstand high heat from heavier wood than something like pine. This grate has held up beautifully so far, in spite of the long, hot fires it's been enduring. It hasn't warped like my old grate, and when I toss another log onto the fire it endures the impact like a champ. If you need a durable grate that's going to last years you should consider this one, you won't be disappointed. good value August 15, 2016 I just got mine and I have not had any crack or warp issues like some of the reviews have stated. I am using it in my outdoor fireplace. I seems to be heavy duty and well made. If I have any problems I will update. | 62% Well-made tools October 14, 2016 Sturdy iron pieces that will likely last a long time. A great set fireplace tools that are attractive and well made, not lightweight and flimsy like others I've seen. I'd certainly recommend this set above others. Very nice sturdy fireplace set. October 10, 2016 This was promised to be delivered a few days ago but we got it today. Apparently there was a problem with the carrier not with Amazon. My daughter opened the package and put it together it took her just a few minutes. The first thing she noticed was the weight, very heavy, very sturdy. We had a fire tonight and used the poker and the tool for picking up the wood and moving it around in the fireplace. They're both very sturdy as well as the rest of the set, very easy to use. The only problem we have is the tool for picking up the wood ( not sure what it's called) it's different from our last set so it takes a bit to get used to.I actually like it a lot better than my old set and am extremely pleased with it!I researched quite a few fireplace sets on here and was wanting a basic set but one that was very sturdy, i would definitely recommend this set to anyone looking for a very sturdy nice fireplace set. Great fireplace tools February 24, 2013 This set is excellent. It comes with 4 tools:1) A poker2) A broom3) A shovel4) A "grabber" that has a scissor like pivot and 3 prongs to securely hold/move a logThey are all heavy duty wrought iron, 7/16" square material. Each tool is very solidly built, there are no flimsy components or screw on handles that could rotate during use, like other models I've seen. The handles, which are also used to hang the tools, were made by looping the rod around, to form an eye.The base is solid as well. It joins together with 8 total screws, which fasten the vertical components to square brackets at top and bottom. No rocking around or anything.I highly recommend this unit. It is built to last a lifetime, and I plan on owning it that long. Looks Good, Works Great! December 10, 2012 I wanted to find a set of fireplace tools that looked decent, took up little space, and would actually work on an ongoing basis without falling apart. This set fits all of those criteria! We're about halfway through the winter, we burn wood in our stove every day, and so far the tools show no wear at all. Primarily we use the poker, but we have also used all of the others at some point. I have not noticed any color fading. They tuck up nicely between our brick and the freestanding stove. It is very easy to pull a tool off and hang it up again, even the ones on the side away from you. There was some very basic assembly required upon opening the set in order to set up the stand for the tools. It only takes about ten minutes to do and isn't complicated at all. I was worried that it might result in a flimsy stand, but it hasn't. The stand is very sturdy and won't tip over easily. The tools are a bit on the heavy side as you might expect of something made of solid iron. If you're looking for a good quality, hard working tool set, I would recommend these! For the money, it's not bad at all! November 21, 2012 This tool set is pretty nice, given the cost. In a retail store, it would probably set you back around $125 to $150, I would imagine. When I bought mine, I was originally thinking I might weld the 4 legs together, in order to give it more strength, etc. However, when it arrived, the method they used to hold the legs together was fine. They use a square little cap affair, which has threaded holes on each face - this hold the legs 90 degrees from each other to form the support for the tools. Once you secure everything, it's actually quite sturdy. The entire tool set is heavy duty for sure. It's made in china, but it's not what you'd call cheap at all. Think something you'd get from Cost Plus Worldmarket. The tools have a hook at the top and the end appears to be stamped via a press of some sort to give it a little lip at the end.Again, overall, it's very nice value for the money. Mine arrived double boxed, which protected all the parts. Even with damage to the shipping box, there's not much that could harm this item. It's solid iron. The shovel is nice quality and so are the poker and brush. In my case, the head of the brush was on fairly loosely, so I had to tighten it. I just held the brush head between my boots and turned the handle until it tightened down and aligned as I wanted. The poker is okay, but the little hook on it is a bit long (at least as compared to the one it was replacing). If I ever buy an anvil, I may hammer the hook on the poker into a slightly different shape, but for now it does the job pretty well. The real jewel of the set is the well made tongs. Growing up, my Dad had a set of those accordion looking tongs, which I hatted. The tongs with this set are really well made and work fantastic. You can use them to easily pickup logs from the fire and move them around. Just having this one tool practically makes the entire cost of the set worth while. The base (which holds all the tools) is a hair off balance, but it would be a simple matter to adjust the feet. Out of the box, it stands straight up, so no complaints at all. Overall, it looks good and blends in well. Nobody would ever reach for a tool on this set and feel like it's inferior quality or that it's cheaply made or anything. It's heavy duty and gets the job done. It might not look quite as cool as a $700 hand forged set of tools made by a black smith, but for 1/10th the cost, it's the next best thing in my opinion. I have an upscale home and this item does not look out of place by the stone fire place by any means. Heavy, simple, good price September 13, 2012 It'll be a month or two before I actually use these since it's not yet fireplace season, but I'm impressed with this set so far. Mine arrived in the manufacturer's box, which was "blown out" on one end. All the parts were there, though. It's unlikely the parts would separate given the way they are wrapped/taped in plastic and bubble wrap inside. Assembly was easy - just two brackets with four screws each that hold the legs together. It even comes with a "disposable" wrench so you don't need any additional tools. I added felt feet on the bottom so the iron legs wouldn't scratch my floor. I ended up buying this set because I wanted something heavy and simple. My local fireplace dealer has a nice selection of tools, but they range from $100 to $500 and even higher. I refuse to pay that much for something like this. On the other hand, I didn't want something made out of thin, stamped metal tubing. Thankfully, this set is exactly what I was looking for. Highly recommended. I'll probably purchase another set or two as gifts. | 51% Elegant and functional, great addition! August 13, 2017 Not only does this look elegant, it is functional. Great addition to the fireplace area. Five Stars April 11, 2017 These seem to be good quality for the price and came through their first season very well. Love 'em! December 8, 2012 This toolset has all the tools we need for our nightly fires in the fireplace (large or small). The stand is sturdy and sits level. We like how the top simply hooks over the bar--no trying to fit it exactly in a thin space like many toolsets--and there's no need to keep tightening the top because it comes unscrewed all the time. Plus, no assembly--it's good to go right out of the box. | 61% There are no reviews yet | 69% Boght to place BBQ Charcoal ashes in June 27, 2017 I bought this to put BBQ Charcoal ashes in so I could clean my grill while it was still hot. I often forgot to clean my grill till the next time I use it due to waiting till it was cool enough for me to clean out the ashes. I decided to get an ash bin that would be okay for hot ashes from my BBQ and this fits the bill perfectly. I can put hot ashes in it without worry. The can does get hot but since it sits on concrete and not near anything flammable, I am not worried. The lit is not as tight on mine as others have mentioned, it is perfect not too loose or too tight. This allows me to always put the grill away clean and cooled down easily. Very good product. I use my wood burning fireplace insert ... February 24, 2017 Very good product. I use my wood burning fireplace insert as a main heating source and clean it once a week . The one week constant burning ash fills around 1/2 of this bucket. The insert helps to burn the wood completely so only ash is left. I also have a special "Ash vacuum cleaner" which I use for the remaining fine ash , that is remaining around and inside the fireplace after the "rough cleaning" with the scoop, that is included with this ash bucket. Ash Bucket September 23, 2016 This is very nice, when it first came it was a bit out of shape and the lid would not fit, hubby just pushed on it so the lid would easily go on and stay on. We love it, looks nice and keeps the ashes from blowing all over. I would not set it on a surface with hot coals in it that was not fire safe, we think that would just be for safety reasons. Perfect for by my outdoor firepit - probably a bit large for by an indoor fireplace February 9, 2016 This bucket is perfect to keep near our outdoor firepit to scoop out the ashes. It is large, so for an indoor fireplace might not suit your needs unless you have a large hearth, but on an outdoor patio it is great. We had been lifting up the whole pit to dump it and I was tired of ending up covered in ashes so I finally decided to get a bucket and shovel for the task. This one is well mad and has been holding up to the elements well. It does what it should (it's a bucket that holds things and the scoop scoops). The holder for the scoop works well and keeps the entire ensemble looking nice. Not much more to say about it other than I would happily buy this again to fulfill any bucket/scoop needs This is an excellent tool to have when you have fireplaces and use ... November 26, 2015 This is an excellent tool to have when you have fireplaces and use them. It makes it very safe to clear out the ashes and not have to worry if any of the ashes are still hot and can cause a fire. I usually clear out the fireplace and leave the ashes in this bucket for 8 hours them place them in the trash. Very safe without being sorry. Very pleased - save yourself a bit of cash on this model February 14, 2011 My wife bought this for me for christmas. I've used it for a solid month and it easily took a full month's worth of ashes (and that's with almost 24/7 burning in a brand new wood burning stove) before I first had to empty it. But it's still relatively modest in size for the amount of ash it holds, it's attractive in a simplistic way, the wood handle grip feels nice, and the lid fits on fairly snugly (not airtight, but snug enough that it won't fall off without a solid hit under the lip). The shovel is a good size. The handle is NOT long, but that makes it more manueverable. The shovel could use a wood handle or something to prevent a hot hand from digging hot coals out, but that's a pretty minor nitpick and I've never actually had to drop the shovel...just came close once or twice when really working with hot coals.I definitely recommend this as a nice hearth ash bucket. Keep it outside on masonry after dumping hot ashes in it; it won't look out of place :) |
Four Star Reviews: | 12% Fits well, seems Sturdy March 28, 2017 Ordered for my outdoor fireplace. This fits my space perfectly. It appears to be well made. Packaging was pretty good, although the feet had broken through the box bottom, even though there was paper and bubble wrap in the box. Did not harm th product. Not sure how long this will last, but so far so good No issues January 27, 2017 Can't understand why some of the others are having issues with cracked grates, been using this 4-5 times a week since November with zero issues, we run our fireplace hot and keep the house around 70 degs. Cracked, but works! November 9, 2013 Just like many other reviewers, the grate snapped with the first hot fire. But it really only snapped in one place so the grate is still fully functional and has worked like a charm ever since. We've used this one full summer season in our outdoor fireplace, and I expect it will last many more - seems like a silly design flaw, but in our case not a deal-breaker since no one can tell it's got a crack and it still functions fine. We've had no problems since the first use, and don't expect any more cracks to occur. Will update if it does. Decent product January 28, 2013 The Panacea 15424 grate appears to be as expected: a lighter-grade cast iron import that is reasonably priced. In the three weeks that we have used it, it has fared well, and is a good fit for our hearth. The front of the grate is cantilevered well ahead of the front legs which means that care should be exercised in loading it so as to avoid the potential for tipping forward. There is ample air space under the unit which can be an advantage or demerit depending on the design of a fireplace and the intended use (heat-generating or ornamental fire). My experience has shown that grates with a rear-sloping design and lower clearance produce a hotter, longer-lasting burn whereas grates like this one fire up well but require more firewood to maintain a consistent hot burn. For the money, this is a good grate for our needs. I have limited the rating to 4 stars because its longevity has not been determined yet. | 23% Very good fireplace set April 7, 2017 Way better than my last set. Solid construction of the pieces make them strong and easy to use. The finish has held up well after a season of daily use. The base is stable and holds all pieces nicely. Knocking off one star as the bristles on the broom are soft and mostly useless. My bristles were deformed from packaging and have not regained their shape. Still, I'm happy with the set and hope to get many seasons out of it. I'm pretty satisfied with this item and the quality of it January 14, 2017 I'm pretty satisfied with this item and the quality of it, especially for the price. I deducted one star because the bristles on the broom are not very good quality; they're a little too soft in my opinion and bend too easily, which is usually counterproductive to sweeping. Overall though, I'm pretty satisfied considering what I paid. Product made in China rather than the US. Although ... October 14, 2016 Product made in China rather than the US. Although they seem robust and durable, unknown how they will hold up in the elements next to our patio fireplace. Uniflame Is Sturdy February 16, 2016 The Uniflame unit arrived with some minor damage to the shovel. I pounded it back into shape with a ball peen hammer and painted it with black spray paint. The frame when together fairly well but the wrench that was included was really too large for the bolts. A 10 mm wrench did the trick. It looks nice and sturdy--should last several years. the tools and stand are excellent quality. We heat our home with a woodstove ... April 3, 2015 This is a quality product with one flaw. The broom isn't worth beans. I will be replacing the broom part of the tool. However, the tools and stand are excellent quality. We heat our home with a woodstove so we use these tools many times every day. Love the tools, hate the broom. Happy with fireplace tools. December 26, 2014 A very nice set of fireplace tools. Feels sturdy and the selection of pieces will be useful. The price is very reasonable for the quality of the product. We went to put it together on Christmas morning and one of the legs had no hole in it. The other 3 legs had a hole towards the top, so they can be screwed together to make the stand. My husband will now have to drill a hole in the forth leg. I believe this was just a manufacturing mishap, but still it will be an extra chore to be done. | 20% Nice Toolset March 9, 2016 A decent fireplace toolset that does what it's meant to: move fiery logs & coals, clean up ash, etc. I just wish the shovel was a little larger. Good buy for the price though. Nice wrought iron set January 26, 2016 Nice wrought iron set. However, the tongs do not close properly. You close them and then they spring open again Item just as pictured. December 27, 2015 Item was received and looked just like in the picture. It does the job without being to bulky and looks nice by the fireplace. GREAT, BUT PAINT BURNS ON SHOVEL December 1, 2013 This is a good tool set. I bought the minuteman gloves, and so the only things i use on this set is the shovel and broom, ocassionally i use the poker. You can reach right in with the gloves. I keep a fire burning all day, and the only reason i give this four stars, is that when moving hot embers with the shovel, the paint burns off. No big deal, no more Sergeant Major inspecting my gear. Great set for the price. | 13% There are no reviews yet | 18% good ash bucket May 4, 2017 Overall, good ash bucket. Nice size, shovel is sturdy. Top didn't actually fit until we bent and reshaped the bucket itself. I will finish it with a darker stain to make it look more like the picture March 19, 2017 Product is well constructed and as described. The only caveat is the handle looks a lot brighter than the picture, making it look a bit cheap. I will finish it with a darker stain to make it look more like the picture. Shovel is much better than what I've been using March 10, 2017 Works as advertised. Shovel is much better than what I've been using. Good value. Bucket and see! December 10, 2016 Bought this with fireirons and a log tote, happy with everything! Bucket is lightweight so easy to carry, lid fits well, shovel is sturdy enough to be useful. A good buy. Works for my wood burning stove January 29, 2016 For the price, this ash bucket works. I frankly wish that it were built of thicker gauge and were more dent resistant, but this is what you get nowadays. The spot riveted on shovel carrier is convenient, but it is possible to get the bail under the shovel, leading to a #^*+ it moment until you straighten it out. I am old enough to remember when all trash cans were galvanized steel and heavy duty. If I were running, say, a coal stove, that's what I would hold out for. For a fireplace or wood burning stove, this ash bucket will work. Simple, sturdy, large-capacity ash bucket November 17, 2013 I really needed a "real" ash bucket, since I make a lot of fires in my woodstove and the ash really builds up in there. I was tired of using my large stewing pots for ash! This bucket is nice and plain and sturdy (I was looking for both). It's not heavy (empty). The shovel that comes with it is convenient, and it's well-designed: the scoop is broad and has flat edges that makes it very easy to pick up a large volume of ash at once. The "holster" for the shovel is also really nice. The two things that are issues (albeit very minor ones) for me are its size (it's BIG - 13" dia at the top x 13" tall) and how the lid doesn't exactly lift off easily. If you have plenty of space on your hearth, go for it. If you have limited space, Measure first! Imagine a 13"x13" box sitting there. I'm not sure if the lid is support to have a "hitch" to it for safety reasons (ie, so that it can't tip over and spill hot ash out on your floor) or if I just managed to get a "hitchy" one. Arguably, it's going to be safer if the lid stays closed, but this lid has no particular safety closure (clasp, hook, etc). I don't have dogs or kids, so it's not an issue for me. Unless you're cramped for space, I highly endorse it!And of course... always empty your fireplace or stove when it's cool, and never assume there aren't any hidden hot coals in there!Hope this helps! |
Three Star Reviews: | 7% Quite large April 7, 2017 Measured a bit bigger them described almost doesn't fit. I will be looking for another since it hangs over. Worked pretty well for a couple of weeks but then started ... November 29, 2016 Worked pretty well for a couple of weeks but then started to warp. By 6 weeks part of the bottom was falling out. Disappointing. Good design though. A fine product, good thing it's not displayed, though March 13, 2014 It's a grate, it's iron, it keeps wood off the bricks. What more do you want? It's sand cast and not finished, so it's not pretty, and not fun to handle, but it gets tucked away in your fireplace, and if you are handing it often, you're doing it wrong. Could be a little heavier, but it is solid iron. I'm keeping mine. GRATE JUST SO-SO February 17, 2014 This grate looks good and works well but doesn't last. We use our fireplace mainly for atmosphere just on weekends during the 3-month winter season here in PA. We have used our grate about 75 times since purchasing it in October 2012. The middle bottom of the grate is now sagging and two of the short cross pieces are broken completely. I'm no authority on fireplace equipment, but it seems to me that a fireplace grate should last more than two seasons with such limited use. I won't buy another one of these. | 3% Helpful March 19, 2016 Extremely sturdy and practical. Broom is not to effect since bristles bend but extremely useful in moving logs. Finish flakes off October 7, 2015 I think this is another metal (not iron) with a coating. The finish has flaked off as soon as I started putting it together, however still works well from a functional perspective. Solid except for brush. January 12, 2014 It is an awesome set; however, the brush was broken when I received it. I contacted Amazon right away. They told me that they were sending me a new one (brush). I still haven't received it. Everything else is great. Very heavy solid pieces. Took a chance of this... November 22, 2013 Took a chance on this product after reading the postings... win some, lose some. This is leaning towards a loss. The finish quality is poor. The paint is literally flaking off. Not worth the effort to return or replace. Poorly packaged. Suspect finish quality. October 28, 2013 Received item in poor condition, chipped powder coating. Kudos to Amazon's return policy. Otherwise the item seemed to be of decent quality however I suspect the long term durability of the finish. | 13% but a wider base would be amazing! June 12, 2017 Tips over a lot. Mostly due to kids and dogs brushing up against it, but a wider base would be amazing ! Get what you pay for! March 18, 2016 You get what you pay for. These are not very well made. The tongs are awkward to use. Get the job done, but next time will invest in better set. The tools are Small January 4, 2014 First, I would like to say that the package the tools came in was torn up. Not sure if it was a returned item that was a resent to me. Second, the tools were smaller that I bought they would be, only 23" long. The stand is 30" total. I thought the tools were about 30". The quality of the small tools is good. Its a usable set, but if I were to order again I would but a larger set. Got a completely different item from what was pictured... November 29, 2012 Ordered on thing and got something completely different. The simple four-way footing seen in the image with four 'squared' handled tools has become an elongated two-sided stand. Did not return it due to it's still great quality metal, all the tools are there... It's just a different structure than what is pictured.I have a good item, just not what I ordered. Basic set but with two reservations... February 13, 2008 This is a basic fireplace set, as you would expect from the price. The construction is hefty solid metal and it has a fairly simple, sleek look. However, the design of the tongs in this set is a bit lacking in that the handle parts don't lock together, or set into place in a secure way at all. So I "fixed" it by putting some black electrical tape in the right spot so it sticks in place, but without that the tongs would often fall open while hanging on the stand. Secondly, the brush we got is not the same as the nice, rustic looking brush pictured with this set. The brush we got is a boring little black square block at the bottom with black bristles attached. It works fine and was not enough of a disappointment to return it, just be aware that if you really care about that particular brush style, it's not what you're going to get. It's simple and works fine (with minor modifications) and not quite as advertised--3 stars in my book. | 6% There are no reviews yet | 7% Its basically a bucket that is painted black. Serves ... February 19, 2017 Its basically a bucket that is painted black. Serves is purpose, but you could get a silver one for about half the price. Lid arrived damaged. Other components are fine December 13, 2016 The lid came bent and doesn't sit flush with the bucket and takes a bit of maneuvering to get on as a result. Bucket itself is large and sturdy, shovel seems fine, but whether the result of poor packaging or poor craftsmanship, the lid came damaged. More of a decoration March 29, 2014 This is more of a decorative or accent piece than anything else. Extremely light weight some what like a cookie tin would be. Same for the shovel and lid, light weight. The lid does not lock down and if the bucket is accidentally knocked over (Murphy's Law) I fear that the contents would spill out. For the occasional user this might fit the bill but I am going for a sturdier galvanized pail with a locking lid to insure any hot coals are well contained. It may not be attractive but definitely a lot more practical. Functional February 6, 2014 The pail was slightly bent upon arrival. It didn't surprise me, however, because the metal is very thin and easily bendable. The shovel isn't very stout either. I guess I was expecting a slightly heavier gauge metal. Overall, I can use the pail for my ashes and it will probably last a awhile as long as I don't bump it into a wall or drop the shovel, but definetely not worth $35. Maybe a $10 bucket. Decent ash bucket for the price January 30, 2013 I'm pretty happy with this purchase. It does the job I use it for - removing spent ashes from my woodstove. Both the bucket and shovel are made from fairly thin metal, and the paint scrapes off a little too easily. I'm not sure why they painted the inside of the bucket, and what is the ribbon that comes with the shovel for? It seemed like a fire hazard to me, so I cut it off. There is no instruction sheet and there is very little written on the box other than "ash bucket" - I assume this is some kind of legal strategy? As others have indicated, this thing is probably bigger than it needs to be - I'd say about 3/4 the size of a 5-gallon bucket. On the positive side, the lid does fit pretty snug (although I doubt it would contain the ashes if it tipped over), and the pocket to store the shovel is handy. The shovel itself is a good size for my stove (a fireplace shovel is too awkward), and does a good job scooping out the ash. Note that I don't use the bucket to store hot coals, just ash, or 95% ash. I'm trying to avoid what another reviewer experienced - an overheated bucket smelling like burn paint. |
Two Star Reviews: | 5% Poor construction December 18, 2016 Seems to be well made as far s design but they made the legs different lengths so it rocks and tilts. I bought this to replace the old and tired one ... October 23, 2016 I bought this to replace the old and tired one I had for 5 years. The first time I used this one it cracked in half. I would look at other options. Bottom warped downward February 20, 2016 Within two fires the bottom of the grate had bent downward. Yes, I had a bed of red-hot coals. Grate downfall January 21, 2014 The packaging was not the greatest. The grate came in a box a lot larger than it needed to. Nothing to secure it inside the box. And the box was damaged I'm sure from the grate being thrown around during delivery. The grate itself was smaller than expected. We have a fire almost every night and the grate already has weakened. One wouldn't expect that in the first month of its use. Overall. A little disappointed. | 5% and the tongs are the actual worst. But the other tools are fine December 22, 2015 This set has a weird pattern on the feet, and the tongs are the actual worst. But the other tools are fine, and it is simple and relatively inexpensive. Almost 5 stars... NOT December 2, 2015 I received my Uniflame five piece fireplace set today. First of all I must say that visually at first glance without a lot of scrutiny this piece is very nice and simple in design. Construction is made of solid rock iron with a black coating to make it visually pleasing. The handles and feet are embossed with a simple decorative design. The stand comes flat in four individual pieces that is simply put together with eight screws. The tool to tighten these eight screws is included with this kit. Looking at the construction of this unit, I have no doubt that this will last for many years to come. However, that said, if you scrutinize the finish of this unit you will notice lots of dings and scratches from shipment. I have included photos of these blemishes in this review. With the naked eye these are actually very difficult to see and really only come out under camera flash. Since I am buying a set for actual use and not for display I do not mind the minor scratches sense the construction seems solid. That said, my biggest complaint is the broom is almost useless. The material used for the bristles is so soft it will barely move the ash left in the fireplace. Included in this review is a picture of the broom resting under its own weight with the bristles bend fully over. Given the price point of this unit, I have no choice but to knock them down to two stars. I will have no choice but to purchase a separate bristle broom in order to sweep out my fireplace. Not wrought iron, square stock painted black. October 22, 2015 This tool set works and is sufficient to do the job, but it is NOT WROUGHT IRON. It is cheap square stock that is painted black. For $60 I wish it would be been more solid. I could've bought one at the local Needs lock nuts! March 18, 2015 Not as sturdy as I had hoped, being wrought iron. There is no lock nut to hold a tight connection. But looks nice ! Don't expect too much. January 13, 2014 It came with a broken broom and chipped paint. I tried to exchange it but it was out of stock. I epoxied the broom back together and just lived with the paint. It's just cheaply made and poorly packaged, but it does work. | 6% FAMILY NOT HAPPY WITH BROKEN PAN April 1, 2016 CAME BROKE. THE DUST PAN WAS BROKE AND NOW HAVE TO USE THE ONE FOR THE BROOM. NOT HAPPY Very cheap, do not buy unless you or you ... March 16, 2016 Very cheap, do not buy unless you or you know someone with a welder. First time I used the shovel to pick up ashes the handle fell off but I was able to spot weld it back together. But the poker is still able to poke. Lack of quality control. February 25, 2016 The log grabber was assembled backwards, and there is no feasible way to correct it. I am returning it the same day I received it, so I can not comment on the quality outside of fundamental quality control. I am only mildly annoyed since I wasn't planning on starting a fire tonight. If this was Saturday, I'd be more upset and give it 1 star. Okay for the Price February 18, 2016 The log grabber opens anytime you even bump the set. If you're looking for a really substantial and will made set, you would be disappointed. It's mediocre at best. | 8% There are no reviews yet | 2% Warped, overly large lid, otherwise acceptable but ugly. January 4, 2017 It works, it's not too bulky, but the lid as others complained is not sized to the item correctly and it was not flat - it has a warp. For the price I didn't want to pay $20 or $30 more to upgrade so this is where we sit. I returned it and wouldn't recommend it at all May 23, 2016 The handle was broken off and the bucket was very thin and flimsy. I returned it and wouldn't recommend it at all. Shovel was fine, though! repacked item June 30, 2014 It's okay but while recycling the boxes I noticed that the box had tape on all the open edges so it had to be a return which explains the slight crease in the lid. To late to return the item, very disappointed. they didn't check the return very closely. Only works with cold ashes January 2, 2014 Holds a good amount of ash however if Ashes are still hot it will melt the can. Would not recommend for wood stove if planning to use often because your ashes will always be somewhat hot. Top doesn't fit October 16, 2013 The lid is warped. Doesn't sit on the top of the can correctly. Otherwise, it would be a nice bucket. |
One Star Reviews: | 13% Just disappointed January 24, 2017 I thought that I would try and replace my eight year old plus fireplace grate. That was just a month ago. I was thrilled with the quick shipping and primes good price. Sadly I have to say that I am quite disappointed. I don't typically write reviews either way, however I was surprised at the bowing of the metal so quickly. I can only imagine that it will not be long before wood will be falling through rather than resting on top. I was excited because it seemed to be quite sturdy and is cast-iron. I will not order one again, that's for sure. Junk January 13, 2015 I bought this grate to replace the one I had only because of the size. This one fit my fire place much better. When I received it I noticed immediately that the quality of this one did not come close to the other one. The grates were much thinner. After approximately three days of burning, when I was cleaning the ashes, I noticed two of the grates had broken off. The next couple of days with a fire the entire grate collapsed. I threw it away and went back with my old smaller one. Couldn't Take the Heat December 16, 2013 This grate ended as a disappointment for us. I'll preface the remarks by stating that we have a larger hearth than most and keep a hot fire approximately 4 to 5 hrs. a winter's night. That said, we began keeping a fire towards the end of October and have been burning the majority of nights for the past month and a half. During that time, we've noticed that a couple of the perpendicular bars have dropped off and that the center of the grate has "fatigued" down to about 1/4 inch off the ground. We usually get a full season out of our grates and that was our expectation with this one. The fact that we need to replace it in less than two months speaks to our disappointment. | 7% Missing pieces and broken. Total JUNK. December 7, 2016 Arrived quickly, but junk. Broom was broken and the paint is chipped off. Broom was missing and screws to put it all together we're missing. Not even worth a one star rating. Worst Amazon purchase EVER. IT came damaged. Shovel bent and the broom bristles ... June 9, 2015 IT came damaged. Shovel bent and the broom bristles were a mess. Also the handles were shorter than expected. Solid entry level set of tools February 15, 2015 NOT wrought iron. After 1 year the paint is all chipping and brush is half burnt. I could find a better set second hand. The end of the poker looked like it was broken with a rough silver edge on ... November 10, 2014 I read all the reviews about the paint be chipped on the tools but decided to take my chances. What a mistake! When the tool set arrived, the tools were painted black and there were several chips and the paint also had cracked in a few spots . The silver metal was shining through in several areas. The end of the poker looked like it was broken with a rough silver edge on it. The broom handle was also loose on the broom. Returned it the next day! This had to be sent back January 17, 2014 My husband wanted a fireplace set, and I felt that wrought iron was the way to go. I couldn't have been more wrong. Upon opening this set, I was shocked to see that the paint was actually chipping off several of the tools. This looked like a used set even though it was brand new! Additionally, as far as functionality, the handles on each of the tools make them very awkward to hold and maneuver. I immediately contacted Amazon, and through great customer service, was able to send this back with no charge to myself. I would warn that this set is of subpar quality, and I would avoid purchasing at all costs. | 10% Junk April 8, 2017 Just used the log grabber for the first time and it came apart immediately! Cheaply made Wrong item, poorly handled December 20, 2013 Seller sent wrong item to me. Box arrived with parts of the frame sticking through, and having scuffs because of this. It is actually product 15016 which is the flat "camelback style" rack. After an extended communication with seller, they claimed that this is what the product has changed to and the displayed style is not available. They are selling something they do not have and shipping out the next closest thing without informing customers or changing the product listing.NOTICE: ITEM DISPLAYED IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE ACCORDING TO THE SELLER BUT THEY WILL SEND YOU SOMETHING ELSE AND CHARGE THE SAME PRICE. Cheaply made May 21, 2013 This item was the most cheaply made item I have ever ordered from Amazon. The box must have been sitting in the warehouse for ages as it was filthy and the tape was old. The log turner was broken and would not stay together to hand correctly. I returned it immediately. broken and flimsy March 28, 2013 as soon as i opened the box i regretted buying this. as i took the pieces out of the box i could tell they were flimsy and very cheaply built. then the brush fell of its handle. i tried to reattach it but it was truly broken, so i returned the product.also purchased a panacea wood-bag and it was much flimsier than pictured and they sent the wrong color.will never purchase a product from this company again Very poor design November 27, 2012 The log pinchers don't stay hanging on the hooks - they slide open and fall off so I have to keep it leaning against the wall. Not a defect just a simple design flaw! | 12% There are no reviews yet | 4% no shovel? April 16, 2017 this product arrived without the shovel. doesn't make much sense and it says it's a non returnable product. One Star October 1, 2016 First 2 received were smashed in. Very cheaply made as others stated. Shop around on this one One Star September 1, 2016 this is a cheaply made item that should never be trusted with potentially live embers. Crap May 18, 2016 Crap. It was delivered damaged. It's paper thin. I plan on returning it right away. Don't buy this product. Low quality for the price December 17, 2015 This product was damaged both times I ordered it. The material it is made of is light which can be a good thing if you have a lot of ash in it, but it dents very easily, and the lid was warped. I finally bought a different product after 2 failed attemps. |
