fireplace grate

great as expected
Quality grate.
March 23, 2017
Quality fireplace grate for the money. Heavy construction and withstands the heat of good roaring fires.
SUPER grate, 6 stars ******
December 8, 2016
I just received this today along with a set of 'fake' crackling logs. OMG is it wonderful! The grate itself came incredibly well wrapped and SUPER fast shipping, for starters. I was afraid it would be a little on the 'flimsy' side - no worries there!! It is a heavy duty grate but not TOO heavy, very sturdy, sits very well balanced on the floor, and my logs fit perfectly in it. I'd give it 6 stars if I could! Lights are all out now except the tree and my logs crackling merrily away in the grate LOVE IT sure feels more like Christmas!

works well -- very strong--holds lots of firewood. High enough from floor of fireplace to allow air to circulate.
Great fire grate!
February 2, 2016
Great firewood holder. We recently bought a house that has a real wood fireplace and were so excited to start using it as soon as it got cool enough but we had no knowledge of what we needed or what brands were credible. After reading tons of reviews I decided to go with Panacea and I was not disappointed.
Fixes fire-pit problem
October 10, 2013
My fire pit is built into my patio. The problem has been airflow. I had been placing logs on the bottom of the pit, not understanding that I needed to lift them so air could flow from the bottom (duh) and this is from a woman who has had a wood burning stove for years. Well, this was perfect, although it is really small for my needs. Make sure to measure carefully, as I didn't and will need to order another one. Its very sturdy, holds up under a heavy load of logs.

December 23, 2014
It fit my fireplace perfectly. It keeps the fire going longer by retaining relatively small cinders from falling to the bottom of the fireplace; this also lights new pieces of wood readily. Some buyers stated that this grate did not stand well up to heat, I have not found this to be true
Built Tough!
December 1, 2014
I've used it twice now (3 hours each time) and I do not see any signs of it wearing down. This was my first iron grate and I wanted to make sure that I get a quality one. I've heard many people complain about the cheap ones, therefore, I decided to spend few more dollars and get this one. Overall, this is a well built and a durable grate and I do not see it deteriorate or loose its shape anytime soon.It fits my fireplace perfectly. I measured my fireplace before ordering and I advice everyone to do same. This grate definitely looks bigger than what the pictures show.
HUGE improvement
January 15, 2014
I had to replace our old fireplace grate because it was warping in the back - requiring me to hammer it back into shape, which unfortunately also lead to some of the bars falling off.I bought this guy because of its high ratings and relatively low cost. I have to say that, though I've only used it once so far, the results were pretty spectacular.Normally I keep my condo at 55F in the winter to save money and use the fireplace on nights when I'll be around the house for an extended period of time. With the old grate we'd be lucky to get the house to warm up by about 5-6 degrees. However, with this new one I was able to get an increase in temp by 8-10 degrees in only 3 hours! What I really like about this grate, so far, is its width. It fills up the entire fireplace and has smaller openings between grate bars, making the fires much more efficient.Note that the grate DOES taper in the back so it's shaped more like a trapezoid. Make sure that you measure your fireplace well at both the front and back widths as well as the depth.Cheers
Just perfect
January 15, 2014
This style of grate is so much better than your typical and cheep welded cross-bar type of grate. It's solid and sturdy, and it nicely holds a lot of wood if you want a large and roaring fire. You can't see it from the product picture, but the front (longest edge) is actually curved up which helps keep the wood pile in it's place. You get great airflow, and holes in the grate are a good size to keep your hot coals where they need to be, while letting the burnt ash fall below.
Great Cast Iron Grate for Your Wood Burning Fireplace
January 11, 2014
This cast iron grate is exactly what you need for a wood burning fireplace with a gas starter below the grate. I recommend it highly. We looked all over the place at various stores in the area and no one carried a decent grate. I suggest you save yourself some time and order this one. I know I will order another one of the same grates when this one needs to be replaces.
Fireplace grate
November 17, 2012
I've used this now for over a year, and it is so much better than the cheap grate that was in the fireplace when I purchased my house. The other grate was too small, plus it had actually overheated and sagged over time. This is a very sturdy grate, well worth the money.

It works very well. I just wish it had the metal grate under it so all the smaller pieces wouldn't fall through all the time
great fireplace grate
January 26, 2014
Loved the wide spacing of the grate so the fire got plenty of air and the embers fell below to keep new wood lighted.
solid but simple
December 8, 2012
This wood grate seems to work quite well. It feels solid and well made without being flashy. I think it would be slightly better if the legs were about 2 inches shorter, but that is probably only relevant depending on the size of your fireplace. It fits in my prefab fireplace, but seems to sit a bit high.

It's OK.
November 14, 2016
I purchased this grate 2.5 years ago and am now starting to see some wear. Specifically, I lost a section in the back left corner. The grate works well and does a good job keeping the ashes on the wood. Just hoped to get more than 3 seasons out of it. For reference, I only burn about a cord of wood a winter.
Its a little low to the ground so hard to get under when trying to remove ashes but I love the size and sturdiness
February 3, 2016
Five or so fires later I have no complaints. Its a little low to the ground so hard to get under when trying to remove ashes but I love the size and sturdiness.
Good fit
January 20, 2016
So far works as expected
Well made grate. Looks like it will hold up to years of use.
January 4, 2016
Good heavy-duty grate. Fits well in our fireplace and holds wood well. No issues with logs rolling out.
Pretty Well Constructed
February 12, 2014
No assembly required, Unit arrived pretty quickly from Amazon. First time I used it there were a couple loud "bangs" as the grate heated up, but no damage like some others have noticed. I have used the grate about 15 times now, many fires for multiple hours, and it is holding up well.It is much better and heavier than the Big Box hardware store I bought my last one at.
Great Grate for the Money
February 11, 2014
I first purchased a grate made from fabricated iron rod but it was too small. In researching the 27" fabricated grates the less expensive ones failed after one use up to one year in. This Grate is very heavy duty and fits great in my fireplace. I recommend this grate.

Arrived on time, able to use it in an outside fire pit just fine. But the material is not as heavy as expected, feels kind of like it may not last as long. But for an outside pit, I can manage fine for now. If anything changes I will add to my post.

It would be fine for a standard-sized fireplace.
April 17, 2016
I have large fireplaces, and I thought this would appear bigger than it is....but it works okay and was the best I could find for the price.
Not Loving It
November 30, 2015
My husband, who makes a fire every night in cooler weather, doesn't love this fireplace grate. The wrought iron bars are spaced too far apart and the wood falls through too quickly, the wood holding surface isn't very big--about 15 inches, and the wrought iron bars aren't as substantial as we would like. Does the job, but not loving it.
Nothing fancy, but gets the job done.
January 11, 2014
This is a decent value for the money. It's basically just 1/2" bar stock bent at the edges and tack-welded together. It arrived in good shape and is both simple and functional. Basically it's what you expect when you buy a basic grate design like this. It looks like the picture but when it got here I was surprised how tall it was. Because it's so tall, it takes a while for the pile of embers to get close enough to the wood to make the fire really self-sustaining. I took a big angle grinder to the legs and cut off about 3" from all 4 legs. I wasn't too careful about it, I just eyeballed the cut location and it turned out pretty well. If that was the only thing, I'd have probably rated it 4 or 5 stars. However, now that I've had several fires in it, I took it out to clean today and noticed that it was bent in the middle. It appears the rear cross-bar got so hot that it became soft and bent under the weight of the firewood. It's not really noticeable from a distance and it hasn't affected the functionality yet, so I'm not too worried at this point. Still, I can't rate it a 4 or 5 with that, so I'm giving it 3 stars.

March 9, 2016
I like everything about it except it is too tall for me. All the hot coals fell through the grate. Which made it hard to keep a good fire going.
A little disappointing. Not highly heat resistant.
March 1, 2014
I'm disappointed in the heat resistance of this grate. After about 10 fires there is a noticeable depression in the center of the grate due to heat stress. Apparently the high heat of the fire is causing the metal to get "soft" and bend. I've had this issue with other fireplace grates. I'm still looking for a grate which doesn't suffer from heat stress and bend as a result.
Poor packaging
August 30, 2013
Had to return the first one I received because it arrived broken. Although Amazon was quick to replace it, the second one was poorly made. This item is too big & too heavy to be packaged the way it was. My recommendation ... order the smaller version!

bought it in january 2017. a few of our normal fires and its already bowed and melted. the steel is only 3/8" and that was a mistake. if you have occasional fires and not too hot this will do, but we have a classic large fireplace and heatilator and use it to heat the house. if cant take the heat get out of the fireplace. think 3/4".
I did not get what it said I was getting!
October 9, 2012
This model was replaced with a 15451TV which seems a lighter verson from the manufacturer. I called the seller and they said I could return it. They said this one replaces the 15403. I am going to keep it and try it. But will leave feedback if it does not hold up to heat well. Bars are smaller in diameter. I would not order from them again if they can not update their items they are selling. This is my first problem with Amazon. I order quite often. But not from this company again. After trying the grate or just trying to replace the one I had. It is smaller, lighter, looks like a midget in fireplace. Want to return but they want me to pay shipping. False advertising or misrepresentation of product. That is illegal. Don't think of ordering.1 star now but can't change it.Filed complaint.

Nice design; cast iron has failed after five months
April 3, 2016
I admit it. I'm a fire guy. I like nice, hot fires with five or six good size logs. This product has failed after five months. Three or four small sections have dropped away, and a couple others are bent. I don't know. Maybe you just can't purchase decent cast iron in this country anymore. But it seems odd to me that I would have to purchase a new fireplace grate every year.
It melts!
December 20, 2015
After 15 years of shopping at Amazon.com, this is my first review. I wanted to pass along that my experience was similar to that of a few others. After less than a month the grate started melting, and there is now a large sag in the middle. I thought I was buying a quality cast-iron grate but I was wrong. A waste of money.

Disappointed - melting after 7-8 fires
December 8, 2014
I had some concerns when I first received the grate. I was a bit disappointed by how thin the metal was and wondered if over time would it melt or sag. After about 7-8 fires I noticed that indeed the center section of the grate was in the beginning stages of sagging down. I contacted Amazon in hopes of replacing it and was told they were out of stock. Here's hoping that this grate makes it through the winter.I would consider paying a bit more if I knew that a more robust and solid steel was being used.

Welds poorly executed
November 15, 2016
I can not speak for others but when I opened the package and unwrapped the item it fell apart. The weld holding the bars together appeared to be done incorrectly. You could see the inconsistency between each weld and where the weld missed the mark. Ended up returning the item. Might be worth while if it was properly made. It is a good heavy metal as described just poorly executed.
It melted out of shape, in about a month. But we do, burn hard and hot!
January 13, 2016
It melted out of shape, in about a month. We burn pretty hot/hard, for many years. Some last a few years. Most last about a year. This one lasted almost a month. Not a quality metal. Again!, We burn hard and hot. We sometimes burn our fireplace for 10 -15 hours straight.
Better suited for brick-n-mortar purchase!
December 19, 2015
Grate was rusted in multiple spots and other areas were not fully coated. Returned product without using. I buy just about anything on Amazon if available; however, based on the product received and a lot of negative reviews on other brands, a fireplace grate seems to be better suited for a local hardware purchase. I did so and it was good to be able see & touch to fully evaluate the quality.
Delicate is not how one describes an iron fireplace grate.
September 29, 2015
One of the 4 rather delicate bars came off as i was getting this out of the box. I just can't imagine how this can handle heavy logs and high heat. Save your money and purchase something more substantial.
Metal is too soft for Mesquite fires.
February 1, 2014
We've had this for a little over a year but did not start using it until December. It is severely deformed from heat and the weight of the wood. The coals and ember keep it red hot and subsequent logs bent the rear bar all the way to the floor of the fire place. Unlike the other negative reviewer that had the same results the welds held until I beat it straight again with my five pound fist maul. At that point a couple of the welds holding the cross bars came loose from the rear bar. I'm currently looking for something that will actually stand up to the heat from our fire.
Not worth it, melted in 3 weeks.
December 15, 2012
Bought this 6 weeks ago and started using it about a month ago. The grate is already a misshapen mess at the bottom of my fireplace. Every bar is deformed and all of the contact points have melted loose. I now have 7 awkwardly bent poles instead of a grate. Will not be purchasing from them again.

Only good thing I can say is that it looked nice when I put it in my fireplace.....I had about a dozen fires this season, not roaring or extremely hot, just normal fires. It took about three fires to notice the frame starting to sag. I just took it out yesterday fir the season and it's completely useless now. What a waste of money.

Arrived yesterday, the grate is surprisingly thin and it cracked at first use. Still usable, and I'll keep using it, but if it cracks more I'll return it.
Junk.
February 21, 2016
This grate started cracking after the first use. The center section completely sank to the fireplace floor within 2 weeks, and soon had a gaping hole in the entire middle. I guess if you only have an occasional small fire it could be useful but for everyday use pay a little more and get a good one. I would have returned it, but I had purchased it months before I used it for the first time.

A piece of China Junk. Do not buy .The one I bought melted and fell apart. Low quality. Who ever heard of cast iron melting. Save your money
I wish they start proving accurate descriptions for items!

After a dozen fires the Grade is falling apart piece by piece and eventually there will be a big hole in the middle of the grate rendering it useless! Will never buy another one of these.

Wrought iron fire grate

Smaller pieces of burned wood fall to the fireplace floor through the openings in the grate, creating a bed of hot coals and allowing your fire to burn from the bottom up

Raising the fire off the floor of your fireplace not only creates a hotter fire but helps draft the smoke and fumes out the chimney instead of into your home

Burning your logs on a grate will also add life to your fireplace by protecting your hearth from direct contact with flames

Measures 20-inch back width, 23.75-inch front width, 13.875-inch depth

Angled shaped log grate

Black finish

15 inches deep
