Great GEN I NVG Value
October 12, 2015
I purchased these NVGs to use while camping/hunting and feel they fit my needs very well. They good quality and come with a head harness mount that works well and is comfortable to wear for 20+ minutes while walking a trail into where I wanted to be. Unless you are willing to spend the money for a Gen II device, you can’t beat the quality and price for this consumer unit. I’ve been looking and researching for a while then settled on this one recently. I’m happy that I did. I’ve used military NVGs, borrowed some more expensive Gen I units. For the money, this appears the best option. Since this appears to be the first review of this unit on Amazon I'll give a little more detail and thoughts on their use. This is a two tube model so each eye’s diopter settings are individually set. That’s important for me because I wear glasses. I put my glasses away and set this unit to my vision then used the focus dial for the right distance. It’s easy to adjust the diopter settings so it’s not a problem to had the NVGs to my kids and let them adjust and use them. In fact, I left the included neck strap on the NVGs when mounting into the headgear and would just hand them off and let them hang on their neck versus trying to fiddle with the harness then adjust it back again for my use.I was very satisfied with the image quality both with and without the IR. From one position I could see high voltage power lines that I estimate were about 300ft away. I could focus and easily see each of the two wires hanging from the 6 points on the tower. When walking with these on the head, I found that I could easily focus on the ground directly in front of me then look up to a medium distance to get my bearings. I couldn’t focus on a compass in my hand but I didn’t expect to be able to either. The minimum focus distance on this unit was about 3 feet (specs say 1M). Navigation was easy enough by focusing on to a distance, dead reckoning on landmarks further away, and then refocusing back. In a blind with the IR on, be careful of objects close-in since they will illuminate very brightly making it impossible to see beyond them. In other words, if you’ve never used NVGs with IR, don’t expect to use IR illumination from a concealed position unless you have a specific clear line of sight or have supplemental IR illumination of your target/area – like IR flashlights, IR laser, etc.Pros: Much better quality construction and image than I was expecting. The battery type (123A) is lithium and has a ~10+ year shelf life. When you read the con below, this is a counterpoint so long as you plan ahead. Dual tube for better depth perception than a single tube. 3 year warranty. Lens caps flip and lock - nothing to get lost falling from the pocket.Cons: Battery – uses the 123A type. I didn’t find them at Walmart but did find them at Best Buy. (I didn't have time to wait for Amazon shipping) I mention it as a con since it’s not your standard battery that you have lying around the house so order a few extra and keep them in the bag. The head gear is not easily adjustable for multiple users. Its set before use so if you are trading off between users, it’s not easily adjustable on the fly. It’s not an issue for me but my kids who wanted to also wear the unit found it unfortunate. I know that Velcro would be an option but I prefer the quiet and solid setup that comes with the unit over something that could be adjusted during wear.In all, the pros far outweigh the cons. Since someone will likely ask, the label inside show the unit being made in Belarus. I’m good with that and appreciate that they are being sold and backed by a TX company with a 3 year warranty. I’ve contacted them with an inquiry and am very satisfied with their support to date. If I rolled over these with my jeep on accident, I’d buy this exact unit again from Firefield.

Gen 1 nightvision for hog hunting.
August 27, 2017
Arrived early, inserted batteries and it was perfect, mounted on my M4. First round dead on at 100 yards.Great tool for hunting feral hogs. The IR spotter is very useful too!
A must have for SHTF situations.
May 18, 2017
For such an inexpensive unit, it's pretty good. Don't expect to his a grapefruit at 100 yards in pitch black. But I am confident I could hit anything larger than a racoon center mass at 50 yards in the dark. And since it is mainy for personal defense in a SHTF situation, that's more than I'll need.
So far..so good!!!
May 3, 2017
Just received it today, so far, so good. I've only played with it in a dark room with the lens cap down, and everything is clear. I had a Armasight Orion Gen 1+, and this Firefield is actually looking better...and weighs much less than the Orion. I can tell the IR isn't the best out there, but I already put the T20 in my shopping cart. I'll take the Firefield for a spin after the horrible weather passes, and update.

Im experiencing a problem maiting the scope and weaver mount. Its not securing and can not keep it to the gun. The night vision is perfect
Beautifully working scope
January 3, 2017
Beautifully working scope. For the price it's even better. I have been hog hunting for months with it and as long as you understand that it's a general one scope and it's not ment for more than a hundred yards. The only thing I would change is the field of vision one the illuminator.
Why didn't I buy this sooner?
January 7, 2015
This is by far the best Gen 1 scope on the market. It is very clear and with the IR it is easy to take coyotes and hogs out to 200 yards in total darkness. My shooting buddy liked mine so well that he bought one as well. I can not say enough good stuff about this scope. I spent almost 20 years in the Army and I remember the Gen 1 NV scopes, and they were not as clear and sharp as this is. Here are some things to note, do's and don'ts if you will.Do read the instructions at least twice before ever removing the scope from its case. This scope is very rugged and well built but some of the components can be easily damaged by just a few seconds of sunlight, so read the instructions and make sure you understand them.Don't use it in the daylight, there is a reason it is called Night Vision. It does have a cap for daylight use but clarity is marginal at best through the cap. The cap is more for use at twilight.I have spent more money for optics and gotten way less than with this scope. For a .223/5.56 or the 300 BLK this scope will do all you need it to do. I have no problem seeing a 3 inch black bulls eye at 100 yards with the 3x magnification. Just make sure the target that you use is black when you are zeroing it or target shooting, as black will show up the best. Forget using any target that is of a shade of red. It will be hard if not impossible to see in the scope because it will not reflect back the IR light like other colours will. Keep these few things in mind and you should enjoy your scope tremendously. I know I do.

Good view at a good price

Does exactly what I expected. You can see in total darkness. Good view at a good price. If you want to see at night I would recommend these goggles to anyone. Do your research for what you want to accomplish.
Works, but note the battery stuff is mixed up.
May 31, 2016
I did lots of research to find a set of NODS to purchase. I settled on this set. I have to say that overall they work great! I tried them in a completely dark room and with the IR on, I could read the fine print on boxes. Outside, you rarely need the IR. I could not only see items in the shadows, but I could see items in the DISTANT shadows.Couple of issues- First, the first set I received didn't work. I returned them and got a second set, which didn't work. I knew that it was something weird. I had tried many different batteries, but it didn't work. Then, I tried installing the batteries BACKWARDS and it worked fine. I called the company and let them know that the battery labels on on backwards.-Next, the headset is not very comfortable, and if you have a larger head, may not fit.-The buttons are not the greatest. For the price, I would expect more, but they work with some getting used to.Note that "CR123A" batteries are being replaced with just "123" batteries. These work fine in the NODS, but don't worry if you can't find CR123A locally, everyone carries 123s.Overall, they work great and will get lots of use. I just wish they would handle a little of the smaller issues.Note- the IR lamp is noticeable from the front. If you are buying these for paintball or something, get a GEN 2.
Pretty happy with my purchase
May 10, 2016
Pretty happy with my purchase. For the money, I feel these are of good qualityand the head set is sturdy and holds well. The nightvision and infrared features are good and battery life is long. Overall I would say that this is a good product and have had no problems with the unit.
Worked good
February 22, 2016
Pretty amazing! When it arrived (and after I FINALLY got a battery!), I took it out back at night where its very dark and with the NVGs I could see everything. Easily watched the dogs running around doing their business. Without this I could not see them. In front of the house, looked up the street and could see about 200 yards pretty well. Saw a woman walking to her car that I could not have seen without them. I gave them a 4 star because of the price and the battery. I had a HUGE contention with the mfr over the $1 battery (CR123A) that they do NOT include it. From my perspective I spend $500 on the nocs, they could have put a $1 battery in the package. So I called their tech support in Texas. Their 1st level support was a huge jerk, just to be honest. I escalated and the next guy was great. Bottom line: good NVGs but order batteries too.

totally great in pitch black but quick release doesnt want to click tight all the way.

Am satisfied with the scope works as mentioned. Only issue i had was attaching the scopes quick release to the weaver mount rail that came with it. Dont want to force it so am taking it to a gunsmith to have him mount it in my gun.
Pros and cons with lots of pictures and takeaway judgement
March 7, 2017
So far so good. I'll list pros and cons.Pros:CheapDurableClear reticleCommon sense placement of adjustmentsReticle brightness intensity adjustableAA battery makes it easy to replaceEasy on offIR attachment is a nice touch (especially on a budget NVRS)Cons:HeavyA lot of black dots in the tube (see pictures)Outdoor use only it appears...inside environment is too reflective and all the black dots show upIR effective range is MAYBE 50 yards. Past that it won't help much.My takeaway with this NVRS is that you get what you pay for. Although with this you get a little more than you pay for. A functional Gen1 NVRS that won't break the bank. If you want ultra clarity, long range, and perfectly machined night vision you'll have to pay for it (upwards of 3k). If you want an effective NVRS (night vision rifle scope) out to 100 yards this is a perfect fit. Plus, Amazon warehouse had them listed for around 270 last time I looked. Can't beat that. I hope this helps.P.S. I need to figure out how to add pictures (this is one of very few reviews I've ever done)
NIGHT SCOPE
January 22, 2016
The small round thing which I think puts out the night light was broken off and loose when it arrived. I could see that it was not screwed on but glued.I expect that rather than all the effort of sending it back and loosing another Month, I might Glue it back on. Even though this part is loose, I tried it out and it is excellent for night vision. I was and am glad I bought it.Can not beat the price either.

September 1, 2017
Very much an entry level optic BUT great quality for what you pay. I actually expected this to have a much lower quality, grainy picture. You can probably shoot out to 60 or 70 yards with this if you have a large enough target.HOWEVER- The quick detach is HORRIBLE. I mean just so, so bad. It detaches with the slightest bump.mi knocked this scope off my gun three times. I am, however, happy to report that it held zero after striking the ground three times.
Optics good, mount poor!
August 23, 2017
Optics are very good for price, the mount is Not! Not sure why they designed it to be quick release like this it's not very stable it works but not great. You can adjust it like others hsve written but still not as tight as you would want a scope.

WORKS WELL BUT DOESNT MOUNT PROPERLY TO MY RIFLE
April 5, 2016
I'd give it more stars if it mounted properly but I could not for the life of me get the quick release lever to turn all the way and secure it to my rifle. Other than that the night vision worked pretty well. Wish it had more magnification but it worked extremely well for the price. I'm returning it and going to get the ATN x sight

Why is it that I trust all the 5-star ratings, then always seem to be on the short end?
February 6, 2017
I have four NV units by four different manufacturers. Three are Gen 1, the last is Gen 3P. These are well-built, lighter, more efficient, and have more clarity than the other Gen 1 units I have, but only up close. Inside the house, the view is amazing for this price. But outside is another story. Tonight (actually 10 minutes ago) I went out to walk the property, carrying a separate IR handheld flashlight. DISMAL performance. Dim picture, haze, and lots of sparkly flashes in both tubes. I could write a volume here, but I kid you not, when I lifted them off of my eyes, the so-so moonlight through the overcast was brighter than what I was straining to see through this unit. I took them off (my head was killing me in less than 6 minutes, by the way. The head mount is a torture device) and came inside and logged on to see how much longer I had to return them. I can't see a practical use for them in the least, unless checking out my bedroom at night during a power outage would be considered practical.

When i received it i tried it out in my darken cellar and it seemed to work well. But when i took it to the range on an overcast day and tried to zero the scope it would not work. The adjustment capability is limited and it was hard to see the target.
Well.....
February 6, 2017
In areas where there are house lights are around with in a hundred yards or more or nights with high moonlight it works good, in pitch black areas you maybe 15 yards of visibility. Mount can be easily adjusted to fit tight & it has very limited magnification. Contacted mfg to ask for assistance and never received an email back. I would recommend spending the extra couple of hundred on something a few steps up.

The night time image was faint with poor detail. I did not feel comfortable enough to pull the trigger on anything live in the field of vision.
The rubber piece falling off too easily. NO GOOD
August 1, 2016
The rubber piece falling off too easily. NO GOOD.If you pay more than $300.00 fro a piece of material and they can't figure out tolerances for a rubber piece that means they don't care for quality. So I would not tell a friend to buy this. You can have a great car but if the parts of the car start falling off for no reason something is WRONG!
not so impressed
December 30, 2015
i ordered this scope because of the good reviews ,the scope i received had ''0'' magnification,if anything it seemed to push objects further away, the quick release is not actually impressive either, they send this rail with it with one hole drilled and tapped on it,so the purpose for it is a question,i tried to clamp the scope to it to check for fit and found its either so tight it wont clamp or its so sloppy its loose, there's no way you could actually hit anything at 100 yards because the image was blurry, the focus was hit and miss,so i sent it back for an exchange, they estimate over a month to get the other one,so far not to impressed with the scope or the seller, will update upon receiving the next one.UPDATE;AFTER GETTING MY SECOND SCOPE @8WEEKS LATER,ITS WORSE THAN THE FIRST ONE,THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO MAGNIFICATION WITH THIS SCOPE,I CANT TELL IF IM LOOKING AT A COYOTE,HOG,DOG OR HUMAN CROUCHED DOWN AT 100 YARDS,NO WAY I WOULD PULL THE TRIGGER WITH THIS POS,ITS HORRIBLE AND I WILL BE SENDING IT BACK FOR A REFUND

Going into the trash
April 16, 2016
Wish I had my $400 back. Expensive mistake. Going into the trash. Useless. Night vision lights everything the same- trees, ground, fence, cat, dog, etc. Can't even see the cat or dog from 30 feet because the surroundings are as visible as the animal. Night vision is supposed to pick up heat, this picks up everything. Useless junk. Amazon has a lot of nice things but this is not one of them. Feel cheated.
Keep looking. Not worth the money.
January 17, 2016
I will be completely honest. I am not a competitor or someone just trying to bash the product. I purchased for hunting use and thought they would be decent with all of the 5 star reviews. There were very very disappointing. While they are on the cheaper end of night vision googles, they are not worth the $500. They are very cheaply made. Feel very flimsy and are just not worth it. The quality of the image/optics is poor. Night vision function works but not well enough to be at all practical. As another reviewer mentioned, they feel more like a toy than anything.

November 14, 2016
This is a nice scope let say that however I wasn't impressed with the performance. I purchased this for my crossbow my neighbors don't take to kindly of me shooting coyotes so I decided to go quieter with a bow. First off yet me say the build and design is great the quick release knob not so much is broke the first time I tighten it down. It also needs to be manually tighten on the side or it will move a lot. Sighting in took some time but i was able to get it close that being said the first coyote I shot at 30 yards I missed by a long shot. I called it a night went to the range and couldn't even hit the target at 20 yds, this went on for days and it's the reason I'm returning it. Save your money and go buy something better my buddy spend 700 on a scope and it is worth the money and he hasn't had a problem yet. I gave one start cause I had to
Not this one!
June 26, 2016
Pro: Seems well-madeCons: Heavy! Very limited range Very limited field of view Any trees or other objects between you and your target flare up in the scope and obscure any objects beyond. I was hoping for some coyote shooting at 75 yds but with my terrain and tree cover it's impossible with this night scope. The unit 'works' but, for my purposes, this was a wasted $300 purchase. Very unhappy.
