Nice, works great, and the price can't be beat.

Works good. Was able to make PDFs out of several documents easily. Did have a few documents shift a little while copying but not enough to cause any issues with the final product. The software that comes with it works just fine for making PDFs but does little besides that, which is all I really needed. You have a choice while copying multiple sheets to make them separate PDFs or just one big one with several pages. The scans a clear and produces easy to read PDFs, great for going paperless. I have tried a few photos, and while they are not as good as the original photos they are fine for images that you are only planning to make 5x7 inch prints out of.
Works great, inexpensive, easy to use, great quality.

This little scanner works great, and is very simple to use. It's fast and the batteries (name brand batteries are included!) last a long time. I added a leftover microSD card we had lying around, formatted it, and now there's enough space for a lifetime's worth of scans. It's worked well with all kinds of documents, even small photos and business cards. And you don't need any added software -- just plug it in after scanning and your computer thinks it's a thumb drive. Even works great with most recent Android phones using an OTG cable! There are only two minor nits I could pick -- not enough to knock off a star. 1) I wish there was a way to set the default scan mode to grayscale PDF instead of color JPG. It's two button presses when I turn it on, but it's mildly annoying. 2) The computer software is pretty limited. There's very little reason to install the software, other than it does allow you to scan several pages in a row and turn them into one multipage PDF.
Quickly scan, merge and compress pdfs (smallpdf.com) - see how in this review
October 29, 2015
Extremely convenient and easy to use. I have a printer/scanner that you have to lift cover, wait till it scans (forever it seems), lift cover, put next page down etc. Can take a while if doing multiple pages. This little puppy scans relatively quickly. Once documents are scanned, just plug in the cord to your computer, open the files and you can drag, drop to a folder on your computer. If you scan as pdf's you can use the free online tools on smallpdf.com - you can quickly and easily merge pdf files (drag and drop) and then you can compress the file - no software required! I bought this for our business so that if we need to make an electronic copy of a customer contract, we can just scan the contract on the jobsite. I have found I like to use it in the office for multiple pages (now that I discovered smallpdf.com) so I may have to get one for myself! We've only been using it for a couple of weeks, so not sure of durability, etc in the long run - will update review later if there are any issues. Oh, when I first bought the scanner I read the instructions, etc, but it was about a month before I got around to buying the microSD card, by then I totally forgot it would only take up to 32GB microSD, and I got the 64GB microSD by mistake - the scanner won't work - says card is full or something. Just heads up so you don't make same mistake as I did.
This is a great device.

I scanned over 2,500 pictures.
About 1,000 in 90 minutes.
The "default" rate was 9 mis-scans on the 1st 1,000 photos.
Super fast, accurate and color true.
I scanned directly to a SanDisk 32GB MicroSDHC and then transferred to my computer later.
I only experienced problems with a handful of photos which were processed on a "gold standard" paper which would not feed thorugh the device.
I scanned everything from small photos from the 1960's to 8 1/2 by 11 sheets all in JPEG with High Def.
The batteries lasted for about 1,000 photos and the MicroSDHC never came close to being full.
A definate buy expecially since the local shops are getting $1.00/scan and the big drug stores due 35 for $4.00 with lousy quality.
Great scanner
January 29, 2014
I purchased this to help in scanning all of my Mom's photos so we could have them saved in case any thing happened. I was concerned when I got it because it was battery operated but this scanner is awesome!I scanned over 600 pictures in just a little over an hour and they are good quality scans. I would highly recommend this to anyone considering purchasing an inexpensive, easy to use scanner.

very well built machine
January 18, 2017
I haven't had this very long but after all the reviews I read I thought I'd mention something I didn't read anywhere and that's an explanation of exactly HOW FAST this thing is.... It scans as if it's just pushing paper straight through. It scans faster that any printer I've ever seen prints, including the gas station laser receipts or thermal printers. It's really FAST.
As far as jams, it has warnings about certain materials but it pushes flimsy receipts through really well.
When people say it's a nice scanner, that's an understatement.
Having a small scanner right on your desk is amazingly convenient!
July 23, 2016
We use these all over our company, and everyone loves these scanners! We bought these as a means to move people away from fax machines, and it has worked well. Everyone loves the convenience of being able to scan without getting up from their desk, and the ability to send a scanned document straight to email. The recipients of those emails loved it right away, too, as the scans were in color, higher definition and much clearer and easier to read than a speckled, black and white fax printout.

The feeder holds a max of 10 pages. You put them in face down and it pulls the bottom one in first. If you set it to "Duplex" mode, it scans both sides of the page at the same time. Once the document is scanned, it pops up a window with options for you to decide what to do with the scan. You can email it, save it as a .JPG or .PDF, print it (no more trips to the copier!), or add it to the software's organizer, which is nice, because it keeps all your scans in one place for future reference.

We've been using these model for a couple of years and haven't had a single problem, and the folks who have them say they use them every day don't know how they've lived without them before.
Fabulous support from Fujitsu when I broke my scanner!
March 9, 2016
I bot this from Amazon in June 2014. I liked it though did not give it heavy use as I often needed to use my flat bed scanner. I am writing this review to let folks know what great support I received from Fujitsu when I had a problem. I put something that was too thick in it to scan and the pad assembly popped out. I could not get it back in so called Fujitsu. A series of support folks patiently worked with me, sent me photos of how it should look etc and finally I was able to get it back in. They even called me several times and left a voice mail! All and all they went above and beyond what I would have expected, and they were all just great to work with. My experience will make me much quicker to buy a Fujitsu product. There was no charge for any of this support, even though I was well past the one-year warranty period, and my scanner now works just fine!
Love it totally worth it and don't forget their receipt software.
January 1, 2016
Amazing, took me months to decide which scanner to get, but I got this one with the software bundle because I wanted to have all the features.

Document scanning = perfect if you want to scan home office to personal use. It is slow if you are doing masses of paper. I had a backlog of papers (medical, personal, legal) that all needed scanned, but I knew after I caught up I wouldn't be scanning but a few a day. This is perfect for this as it takes up little to no space and is more than capable of scanning a page after page, I even took stacks of 10 and kept adding to it as it went through them and did large quantities without issue.

Card scanning = works great on thinner soft cards, full heavy plastic cards do scan but I tend to have to push them down a bit so it can grab onto them. My wife had about 200 business size cards she didn't want to part with, took me about 20 minutes to scan them in with this (It was fun, especially to get rid of them after)

Receipt scanning = Okay, this is just a hard thing to do overall anyway, but it does it and does it well. I'm not saying its not the most annoying thing to scan, but I've found due to paper differences in thickness and length, it's best to hand feed them if they are not the same length, I set it to keep scanning so if I fall behind or something happens it prompts me if I want to keep scanning. I can do a month of personal receipts in 15 minutes which is pretty good. The do have software for receipts I think I had to email and request it or do a huge online request with serial/model/registration, but their software is really good, and you can import old receipts you scanned before having the software, if you keep up on scanning it really does a good job tracking your purchases and after helping it know what each item or store name looks like it works very well, at least for me I don't mind correcting small things because let's face it a receipt left in a purse sometimes is hard to work with.
Best Scanner you will every buy
January 11, 2013
I buy something from Amazon almost everyday and I have never written a review, I am just too darn busy. But this scanner is too good for me not to give it a review. I own a mac and scanners have always had bad interfaces for macs (maybe for PCs too). This is the fastest scanner I have ever used and the software is brilliantly simple and straightforward. I have boxes of ancient documents I can't stand to keep and can bring myself to throw away. I am filling garbage can every day of documents I have quickly scanned and sorted. Now I can toss this old stuff in good conscious. The unit is tiny but solid. You will be surprized at how heavy and solid this thing is when you open it up. It is obviously well made. I would go on and on but let me just say, I have owned about 10 scanners in my life. This is by far the best.

February 14, 2017
Purchased this for my mother to scan old pictures so she would have digital copies. I ran about 80 of my pictures through, and some had issues feeding through the scanner. I had to pull a few through. I think it has to do with the picture guide and trying to make it just right, otherwise the picture will not be straight and then get caught. Overall the images were nice though and it doesn't require being connected to a computer, so my Mom can sit and watch TV while she scans a ton of pictures from the couch instead of sitting in front of a computer.
Good purchase!
December 16, 2016
So far, so good. With about 100 pics scanned so far, a couple had some weird lines/distortions, but only around the edge of the picture. Since I'll be keeping all the original photos, I'm not really bothered by the minor distortion since it doesn't seem to affect the best part of the photo. The device is light weight, extremely quiet, and fast. If it came with a power cord, I'd have given it five stars. I don't know how many times I'll have to replace the batteries to scan all the photos I have.
Okay for the price
August 5, 2016
I like this scanner, it is fast and crisp. Here are the 3 cons on this.1) It needs a MicroSD card that is not larger than 32 MB to function2) Battery life. it seems to suck up energy. They could have provided power adapter facility eliminate this3) USB connection. I am not sure if I am doing this correctly, but when I have this unit connected USB, it will not scan. it is a pain to remove / plug the cable every time you need to transfer the files.Besides these, this is a great little unit.
Fast and easy to use, oversimplified software and no driver support in other programs
December 29, 2015
I bought this for scanning receipts for work, and it does the job very quickly and easily. The software is oversimplified, though, and the driver doesn't seem to be a typical scanner device driver that I can use in a different/better application. I have stacks of receipts to scan, and I can't save each one to its own file automatically -- the software treats them like separate pages in a single document, and I have to manually save each page as a unique file. It's not difficult, but it adds a lot of extra steps to an otherwise painless process.I bought it due to the lower price than other devices with a decent rating, but for my purposes, I would be willing to spend a few bucks more and get something with a standard driver and/or better software.
A Simple, Effective, PnP Device
December 19, 2014
Performs as claimed right out of the box. Quietly and quickly - 3-4 seconds at most - scans an 8.5x11 printed sheet to a searchable pdf file. JPEG and DPI options for fotoz. Setup was simple and fast. Small, lightweight, and sturdy so will travel well. Web download of software needed for scanning directly to puter via provided USB cable [device has that weirdly shaped small connector port {the one that has little 'ears' on the connector}] went smoothly tho not quite as per the directions. Could have used the provided cd if I had a reader. Ditto for the Evernote cd. Comes with a cleaning pad, white calibration sheet, USB cable, 4 AA batteries, and a drawstring carrying sack that is barely large enough for the scanner. Will accept - tho not provided with - a micro sd card up to 32gb. This model does not have wireless which would be nice if not so pricey. With the micro sd card and batteries can be used w/o a puter. Have yet to try that.
Great portable scanner; scan directly to PDF with no computer
April 5, 2014
Perfect for a scanner that you can use without firing up the laptop. Although a cell phone these days can serve some of the functionality, a "real" scanner that scans without fuss is preferable to that for my needs. Compared to the Brother DS-920W, the only disadvantage I see is this does not scan duplex. But it is smaller than the brother, the front panel controls are simpler and more informative, and it uses AA batteries rather than a proprietary lithium. Meaning you will be using this thing long after your other device can't hold a charge and you can't find a battery for it. At first I would have preferred SD to micro SD storage, but then thinking how many mobile devices and tablets have a micro slot it makes more sense the way these folks did it. Quality of build is exceptional; it feels much more robust than the rather "creaky" brother unit. Now the only negative I have found. When powered off, the settings return to the default (jpg, low res, color). So if you want a mono, pdf, high resolution you have 3 buttons to press. Not a show stopper by any means, but the only thing on the interface I think the designers missed. And as to the Brother...I had purchased a Brother DS-920DW previous to this. Unfortunately, that unit died the day after I gave it the first test. It acted like a bad battery, and was going to order that rather than go through the hassle of a return. Go figure, Brother does not sell the batteries. At least not anywhere easily found... they show them, but do not offer them in the web store. So while I dealt with that return, I decided to try the Instascan. It is the better product.

Wonderful! Way better than the scanner on my multifunction printer! Well worth the money spent!
July 23, 2017
This would get 5 stars if I didn't have to put a wedge under the piece of plastic that feeds one sheet of paper. Thankfully before I purchased the unit, I read about that solution in someone else's post on Amazon and it worked great! Also, the app is just ok - not great. Some things should be a little easier to find and figure out. Once I changed the scan quality and set the scanner to "keep" scanning in to the same document that it was creating... I was in heaven! I had like a 6 hour marathon and was worried the scanner would overheat or somehow die on me. Thankfully it is still good to go because I have lots more to do!
Great little scanner!
April 24, 2017
I needed a small scanner to put on my desk top to scan receipts and that type of thing. I had a few starts and stops getting it set up. I ended up having to go online and download drviers because I could not get the CD to work. About a week after I set it up and used it quite a bit, it came up with some error and I basically had to delete all the drivers and reinstall. Now it works like a charm and I am very pleased. As long as I don't keep running into that error message, I'm very happy with this product. It is compact and very easy to use.
Great for the home office!
May 13, 2016
After much research, I decided to purchase this ScanSnap S1300i. I use this scanner for my home office, in which I scan receipts, bills, and important documents. It scans all of these documents as expected, but I do have to manually feed the paper one sheet at a time if I'm scanning more than 3 or 4 sheets together. It often pulls multiple sheets through at the same time. You just have to be really quick in doing this because it won't attach it to the same document if it doesn't scan continuously. I also love that this is a duplex scanner, but you can opt for it to scan the front page only if duplex isn't needed. The ScanSnap Organizer is great! I can't compare it to other similar programs, but it does everything I need! If you are looking for a scanner for your home or small office or need something portable, this will do the job. If you have a larger office, or intend on scanning documents with many sheets often, I would recommend spending the extra money and getting a Fujitsu desktop model.
LOVE IT for MAC!
March 22, 2014
I don't really need to write this review as the others have said it all... with great specific pros and cons... but I'll weigh in as a Mac user. I selected this scanner after MUCH reading because it's very MAC compatible... and much less expensive than those more highly rated. I took away one star because there is no software to scan business cards for Mac... or at least none that I discovered. Otherwise it is better than expected. I'm in the process of estate planning and this thing has made scanning all the docs actually fun. It's extremely easy to use, makes nearly perfect pdf copies and has many options that I may never use but appreciate having. Save yourself some money, this device lives up to the hype.
An excellent document scanner, okay for other stuff...
October 27, 2012
I've been on the lookout for a true duplex scanner for quite some time. Three years ago, I purchased an Epson V500 Photo, and while it was a great photo scanner and did well at scanning single sided, one-page documents, I was a bit daunted at the idea of scan/flip/switch/flip/switch/flip/etc... scanning for my longer documents. I didn't want to rely on a scanner which used a duplex document feeder (but still scanned one side at a time) because they tend to be unreliable, especially if the paper isn't perfect.

I had pretty much settled on a Fujitsu ScanSnap brand scanner, because for a long time, that was about the only affordable duplex scanner. I wasn't happy with the need to choose between Mac or PC, though, because I use both, but for different things. Unfortunately, all of Fujitsu's products were specifically limited to one platform or the other. I ended up putting off the purchase multiple times just because I wasn't happy with the offerings available.

I would go back every few months, though, and look again, both at Fujitsu and others. When I did a search on duplex scanners a couple of months ago, I noticed several new offerings, both from Fujitsu and other companies. Epson has a new Workforce series, Brother has a couple of new machines and Fujitsu has the new S1300i, which finally had both Windows and Mac compatibility. After a bit of indecision, I finally settled on the Scansnap, ordered it from Amazon and waited impatiently for the scanner to arrive.

Here are my observations after a month (and over 1000 scans) of using it.
The Good:
From the beginning I've enjoyed the ScanSnap s1300i. The ScanSnap Organizer program works well for keeping my PDFs organized, and the interface for the scanner software is pretty easy for scanning documents, both single page and multipage.
The scanner is able to be powered by a second USB cable (which makes it portable), or by plugging it in to the wall (which will produce faster scans).
There is only a single button on the scanner, which is lit when the scanner is on and ready for scanning, or dark when it has powered itself down or you've closed the "lid" (the fold down document feeder will power off the unit when it is closed).
It provides excellent quality PDF files, and the OCR capabilities (provided by an OEM copy of ABBYY Finereader) work better than expected for most documents.
The Automatic Document Feeder is rated at ten pages, but I can get at least 20 or so in there without a problem, then I can drop 10 or so more at a time after it has scanned some. I have successfully scanned 70 page documents in this way.
The scanner is able to be used with either (or both) Mac and PC machines.

The Bad:
The software isn't TWAIN compliant, meaning you can't use it from within other programs, like Adobe Acrobat or PhotoShop. This is only a minor annoyance, since you can scan to a file, then automatically open the file with a particular program (chosen from the ScanSnap Manager program).
The Scanner is OKAY at scanning photos. I did a side by side comparison between the ScanSnap and my Epson, and the Epson wins the quality contest, hands down. You can readily see the JPG mosaic patterns and artifacts (and you can ONLY save image files as JPG) in the ScanSnap file, even on the highest scan settings.
The scan settings are limited to 1200 dpi for black and white, and 600 for color. This is more than adequate for documents (I generally scan at 600 b&w/300 color), but it is a limitation. I don't know why the resolution is different for b&w vs color, but it is.
Since the scanner is a "Sheetfed" type, you can't scan things which are too stiff to go through the paper path. This isn't a problem for most things, and it should be pretty obvious when you're purchasing the scanner that this will be a limitation, but just in case you haven't thought about it, there it is.
The scanner has "consumables", meaning the pick rollers and pad assembly, which are rated at 100,000 and 10,000 scans, respectively. This is actually both good and bad, since these parts aren't user replaceable on most units, and they will just start giving sheet feed errors (too many pages at a time, or not grabbing any pages). However most scanners pads will be rated for more scans.
The scanner has a problem reading "legal" paper if the scan begins with "letter" paper. The manual says you can't mix different paper lengths in the same scan batch, but you actually can do this, so long as the first page scanned is a "legal" size sheet.

The Ugly:
Nothing. There are no "showstopper" problems with this scanner that I have come across.

Overall, I love the scanner. It is great for scanning documents, which is the exact reason I purchased it. I'm giving it four stars out of five, and mostly knocking the one star off because of the JPG quality, and the mixed paper length problem. It's really more of a 4.25, but regardless, I can't give it five stars because of these issues.

Things went a little better once the disk was loaded
February 9, 2017
I take back my original post. As an owner of a different brand that only scans smaller photos this one is giving me a harder time to figure out. Things went a little better once the disk was loaded. The big test will be when I visit my mothers and start in on 60 years of history.
Almost got it right
February 2, 2017
After using this scanner for several weeks I think this product is very close to getting it right. Where it comes up short is the scanned pages are much larger than the scanned paper, most of the time. On many instances however, portions of the pages that have text are only partially in the scanned image. One must carefully check all scanned pages for errors.
Eats Batteries

Pretty Good, but software only on CD, some occasional problems.
January 20, 2017
Works pretty well and is decently fast. Every once and a while it will lose the right margin of document, must think it is smaller than it is or something. The Scan Direct software that comes with it is on a CD, but I don't have a cd drive and VuPoint seems to be one of those ghost brands that does not even have a website, so there seems to be nowhere to download it. Also, every time you turn it one it defaults to Low Resolution JPEG, rather than remembering your previous setting.
Great for Documents but Poor for Pictures
November 20, 2016
I really had high hopes for this scanner as I do genealogy and need a way to quickly scan photos. While I found this to be a great scanner for any kind of document it is pretty useless as a photo scanner. Before I get into the issues I want to list some good features.PRO:1. It is a FAST little scanner. Feeding paper is quick and works well.2. Scans of paper (receipts, documents, etc) is great.3. Portability is great. Scan anywhere and transfer later.4. Nice look and feel. Does not feel cheap. Seems very well made.SERIOUS CONS:1. Photo scanning is over-saturated and there is no way to adjust the scanning settings. This is true if you use the computer to scan or scan to a memory card. The fault lies in the scanning software on the PC. You have to use their software because this scanner does not show up as a standard scanner in Windows. The software provided has no way to adjust the scan settings.2. Due to the custom PC software you cannot use a program like Photoshop to scan directly into programs.3. Scanning using the computer will not let you change the scanner settings from the defaults (that I can find). This means you can't scan at a higher that "LO" resolution.4. Scanning matte photos come out much worse than glossy photos.5. When scanning to memory card you can change the settings but they do not "stick" if you power off and back on or plug it into a computer to transfer the pictures. It always reverts to defaults.I really hate that this scanner didn't work out. It has some great potential but is marred by poor PC software and not being able to use a standard scanner interface like TWAIN. If you just want to do documents this scanner would work great for you. If you are looking to scan pictures you will be disappointed.

November 15, 2016
Works well for portable use, but as far as I can tell you can't scan while it's plugged into USB. It's annoying to have to plug and unplug when using it on your desk, but more importantly I'm pretty sure the USB port is going to wear out pretty quickly with so much plugging and unplugging.

Already the optical sensor is bad.
June 4, 2017
well, I have had this for less than 6 months and already the optical sensor is broken. I tried to scan something and the quality was lousy. Then it said the optical sensor was faulty.

I have called Fujitsu as I registered it. I hope they help me.

I am very disappointed. It had been working quite well up till today..
Disappointed in Fujitsu
November 4, 2016
I would have given this product five stars if it had come with a twain driver. I probably would not have bought this if I had known that it did not have a twain driver interface. I understand that Fujitsu did this to appease an audience of users who don't want to deal with complicated driver interfaces however not having the twain interface forces you to use Fujitsu's values for scanning and limits it's true ability to interface with other scanning software.

If we were only talking about the hardware it would be 5 stars. But we are not. There is a possibility, don't know the probability and apparently, neither does ScanSnap, that ScanSnap files created earlier could be damaged by some incompatibility with the new Mac operating system. Here are the latest comments from ScanSnap.

The long and short of it is I have not upgraded to macOS Sierra. My sense is that if this was a problem with Windows it would already be fixed.
Good Hardware; Software is Underwhelming
December 4, 2015
I bought this to tackle my growing piles of paper. I also wanted to digitize my backlog of key papers and archive these to Evernote. Previously, I had used the flatbed scanner that came with my printer. When my printer bit the dust recently, I decided to look for a dedicated scanner with a good form-feeder because, it's a pain to manually feed papers into the flatbed. I was torn between this and the Doxie product. A couple of features that tipped the scales toward the ScanSnap is its better form-feeding. True, you the Doxie is a little smaller but, let's face it, you tend to do all your scanning in one place and the ScanSnap is small enough to tote where its needed. It seemed to me that the Doxie is more geared to scanning smaller batches. The form-feeding is a key part to addressing my paper backlog and even day-to-day scanning.

One thing that's a bit misleading is that, despite the description, you're really going to need to plug this into the wall if you're going to use it. True, you can run it off of the USB, but the software is slower and it's a quick drain of your laptop if you go this route.

Once you get your ScanSnap hooked up and ready to go, you get the promotional video describing its features and introducing you to its online community. The video is VERY MISLEADING in that it shows different sized papers being fed simultaneously. In practice this does not work at all! Shame on you Fujitsu!

Another disappointment is the ScanSnap folder. I like the idea of one place for your scanned documents that deletes after a period of time but, in practice, this feature is buggy. Often your scans would disappear or somehow not make it to the folder in the first place. I bypass the folder altogether in favor of a dedicated folder I set up for this purpose.

Yet another disappointment is the form profiles. It's a good idea in theory but it's execution is another matter. The profiles are set according to where the images are stored. A better use of profiles is to have the profiles based on the type of document (e.g. business cards, letter-sized color 2 sided, etc.)

An irritation is the dialogue box you get after a scan. This tells the number of pages rotated as well as the number of blank pages suppressed. You have to click "OK." (No other option) This is a waste of time! Fujitsu could've incorporated this info on the next screen that asks where you want to put the scanned image.

Despite the above frustrations, I've kept my ScanSnap. The hardware is good. It does a decent job feeding and scanning. The OCR software does a respectable job straightening images and making them searchable. I have Adobe Standard that can take a PDF document and make it searchable while straightening it up. Generally, I haven't had to use Adobe in 80-85% of my scans.

For what you get, I think it's a bit overpriced. If the software and features worked as promoted, I would be more excited. I've had to develop workarounds that I didn't count on but, to be fair, it is a key piece of my paperless efforts despite the flaws.

The ScanSnap works pretty well. I have been using it for about 2 months with my Evernote app in an effort to go completely paperless. I have several years of records and documents to scan and it's held up great so far.
My only complaints are the following: 1. It takes about 10 seconds per page when you use the high-quality resolution settings, 2. It frequently double or triple feeds pages which requires constant vigilance when you are scanning a multi-page document, 3. It will not properly feed magazine articles on its own -you have to guide the pages in by hand one-by-one, if left alone the ScanSnap spool will crumple the pages at worst or feed them at an awkward angle.
Overall, I would still recommend the ScanSnap for small infrequent scanning jobs, but if you have a large amount of documents to scan or want a quicker more efficient scanner I would go with a larger more industrial scanner.

Does not work well. You have to scan it multiple times to get a clear image. Computer (Mac) has issues finding the memory or mount on the desktop.
Not what I had hoped for.
May 31, 2017
I must say that I am very disappointed in this scanner. I have had this type before and they were awesome, producing great scans of my photos. This one, though, seems to drag at points during the scan, so that your pics end up with motion type streaks throughout parts of the pics, making it necessary to crop off half the pics in some, and others just are not salvageable. Not sure how to correct this issue, as I have tried everything I can think of to avoid the dragging.
You Get What You Pay For
February 8, 2017
I purchased this scanner because I have tons of papers, including receipts, that I wanted to scan and shred. Unfortunately, I have a list of complaints, which are:1. Text on scanner for PDF or jpg setting is so tiny I have to use a magnifying glass to see it.2. When I finally figured out which setting was for PDF and which was for scanner, I was still disappointed because, nine times out of ten, the PDF scans showed only a sliver of the document (see attached 8 1/2 x 11 scan), or they were completely blurry and unreadable.3. When I scanned items as jpgs, while 8 1/2 x 11 documents came out fine, receipts were sometimes blurry or the borders missing.4. I thought I could scan them directly to my computer (Macbook Pro), which I cannot. I have to first scan the document, then connect the scanner via the USB cord included, and transfer the scans to my computer from the scanner's memory card which, by the way, the scanner will not operate without, something that was not clear at the time of purchase.5. The instructions were incomplete. I never figured out what the extra flap was for.All in all, I'm very disappointed with this scanner.

I accidentally scanned about 100 pictures on the wrong side but it worked fast and well! When i flipped them over to scan them on the right side (ugh) it wouldn't work anymore. They turned sideways and kept getting stuck. I can't get it to work....will probably return.

I love this scanner I scanned over a 1000 pictures in under an hour with it, just check your pictures and make sure it doesn't have a blur affect as it might have been scanned too quickly, that did happen sometimes, but I was scanning a lot of pictures quickly. Very easy to use, make sure you get the mini card for it,7-23-216 update I have to drop the stars on this, way too may pictures are being destroyed by showing like it's distorted, unfortunately after I used this the first time and scanned the 1000 pictures I didn't know this until after I downloaded them and had thrown the pictures out, which really makes me sick to think of how may pictures weer lost, I just scanned a 100 more and same thing happened. I have to send it back.
Don't bother
December 28, 2015
I purchased this after reading a blog about it, clearly the blog was trying to sell this but it did nothing that it was "praised for" it's light weight yes, but the quality is bad. Scanning without being able to see if the scan is straight is a HUGE downfall in this design. I returned it. Was nothing that was promised and not worth using for anything, I went back to the large scanner until I can find a smaller one like this one that actually works.

This scanner MIGHT be good for you if your primary concern is having a compact sized scanner... and if you only scan one or two pages at a time... and if scan speed is not important to you. I have another Fujitsu ScanSnap (larger one) that I love, so I had high hopes for this. I was very disappointed. Scanning speed was super slow. And right from the first scan (of 10 pages), it grabbed 3 pages at once, resulting in a paper jam. This is definitely getting returned.
Great Hardware, Not-So-Great Software
February 20, 2017
The device itself is great - the dual-side scanning, the scan rate, the automatic document feeder, the overall quality of the produced image, OCR, all quite good. Where this product fell down was its companion software. The ScanSnap Manager and ScanSnap Organizer Windows applications demonstrate an overall lack of polish. I wasn't thrilled with ScanSnap Manager, but it was good enough to get the job done - and I was prepared to live with that. The experience that pushed me over the edge (and to ultimately return the product) was that ScanSnap Organizer would refresh the entire display any time I clicked on anything. While it was refreshing, I could not do anything else. No other software on my machine exhibits this behavior, so the problem seemed to be specific to this software. I was disappointed to learn this, because the product looked quite solid.I'm going to try my luck with the Doxie Q - wireless rechargeable document scanner with automatic document feeder (ADF) and see how that goes.
Scanner
February 17, 2017
Purchased for mobile business.
UPDATE: We have only used the scanner a couple of times, and now it is "FROZE" and will not allow scanning. A blue light stays on and will not change. I have tired unplugging, leaving unplugged for some time, still nothing. I can not see that there is anything in the buffer or the que or whatever, but it is not operable and the return window has passed. Now it is an expensive paper weight. Very frustrated.
Not friendly to Windows 10.

Careful with this one if you are running Windows 10. Driver software is not stable and usually needs to be resinstalled once a week or more. Support team is helpful but until new driver is issued (no date projection I can find) there are better options. Like the way it works when it works.

No warranty on it!
February 17, 2017
The scanner worked fine for less than 10 times in 6 months. Now all pictures I got have a black line on it. I contacted the customer service and I was told they cannot do anything on it!? They said there is nothing they can do to fix the issue!! Looks like they don't have any warranty on their products!!
Cannot scan photos without jamming. Less than stellar scan quality.
February 2, 2017
The scanner is described as a document and photo scanner. It does scan documents - black and white are fine, but color leaves a lot to be desired. But the reason I got this scanner was because it was noted I could scan photos. Some people even state, in reviews, that they have scanned 100s or 1000s of photos with great results. I could get it to scan two pictures before jamming. Pull the jammed photo out, clean using the enclosed cleaning card, and start again. Forget about two or three, I couldn't get a single 4x6 photo to scan. Disappointed with everything except Amazon's return policy. Took less than 24 hours to ship back and process my refund. If B&W documents is what you need this for, have at it. Otherwise, avoid.
Scan Direct (Not Responding)
January 17, 2017
Very poor product and I would not recommend it for several reasons.1) The settings on the scanner can only be changed when the USB is not plugged into the computer.2) The software (Scan Direct) continuously freezes up (not responding) when scanning documents or even letting it sit idle. (I have Windows 10.)3) The software does not have any of the settings that are listed on the scanner itself (JPG/PDF, DPI settings, Color/Mono, Time Set/Format)4) When the software prompts to insert paper into the slot, a lot of the time nothing happens when I scan a document (but sometimes it randomly does). When the software is working (after reinstalling), I am able to adjust the order of the scanned pages and save/import it to my hard drive. But since you cannot change any of the settings when scanning via USB, the scan quality defaults to the lowest DPI setting. All-in-all, this scanners functionality is best utilized as a portable scanner using the microSD card and uploading the card onto your computer later. Unfortunately, the scans save each scan as its own JPG/PDF file and the software is not capable of making adjustments to these scans. In fact, the software is not capable of interacting with the imported scans via the microSD card at all! So yeah, avoid this product.5) When using a 16GB
Such high hopes.
January 1, 2017
This absolutely gutted me. I purchased the scanner so that the mountain of family pictures back three generations in my family could be uploaded onto my computer and saved. It worked once, once. It then malfunctioned and ran like it was scanning pictures when nothing was being put through. I uninstalled the software, took out the batteries, started over from scratch. Nothing. Absolutely worthless. Now to look for another scanner.
Keeps running, never shuts off and never scans
December 13, 2016
Returned it because no matter what I tried or did, it kept running continuously and would actually scan. Bad sensors or something. I'm not the first one here to report this problem. Avoid this product! Big disappointment since I was hoping it would help me to rid myself of paper, however it just caused frustration and time spent to return it with no results at all.
Not so great
November 20, 2016
I travel about 80% of the time and my life is plagued with receipts. I purchased this scanner to try to cut back on the time I spend doing expense reports. It failed miserably. I scanned about 20 receipts the first time I used it. My report:1. 50% failure rate. The scans were of only part of the receipt. One receipt required about 8 attempts before it worked. I believe that the autocrop must determine where to crop based on the first part of the receipt. So, if the front edge of the receipt is not square, it crops more than it should. I'm doing this to save time so anything that adds time is unacceptable. Attached is an example. (I only altered it to blur out business name address info)2. I scan my receipts in chronological order. Because I had to rescan more than half of them, my receipts are out of order and it takes me more time to reorder them.3. I deleted the scanned images from the SD card as I copied them to my computer. The scanner names files in numerical order and starts over when files are deleted. So, because I had to rescan several times, I have different images with the exact same name. More time to rename them.4. It comes with a "white balance calibration card." Sounds important. I followed instructions exactly but I could never get it to calibrate. Seems to work produce decent images anyway. There is no mention of this card in the instructions, just on the calibration card itself.5. The LED readout is tiny. I do a lot of work in hotels that use low wattage lights to save energy. I could not read the LED in my hotel room. I took it into work. Some of the LED is blocked by the case. I ended up using a magnifying glass so, now that I know where everything is, I can tell how it is set by position instead of actually reading it.6. Your settings reset to default each time you shut the unit off. This is ridiculous. You have to reset your preferences each time.7. Minor gripe. It comes with a carrying bag. Since that isn't mentioned anywhere, I bought a case. It would be nice to have known I didn't need to spend the extra money. It actually produces a decent image. I had it set at the lowest dpi and the image was good. I realize that at 40 bucks, I shouldn't expect perfection. I just expected something that would save me some time. Instead, it took me twice as long.Believe it or not, I am not sending it back right away. I'm going to give it a second chance. That's how badly I want something to save me some time and effort I will update my review when I decide what to do with it.

I bought this in March and have used it 3 times, no more than 3 sheets at a time, no staples, regular paper, and the scanner has died. Completely dead. So disappointed! Researched for weeks before deciding to spend so much on a personal scanner, and now it's too late to return it- just 12 weeks in!

Don't even bother buying this piece of crap
August 25, 2015
This is by far is the worst thing i've ever bought. The machine jams all the time. It loves to tile papers and when you feed multiple once, it tilts the first one and jams the rest. Oh, and when it doesn't do that and works, it feeds multiple pages at once. So, if you're not paying attention and sitting guard by the machine, it will skip pages.

Oh, and don't get me started on the stupid software. WHY SO MANY STEPS TO SAVE A DOCUMENT? AND WHY CAN'T IT JUST REMEMBER THE LAST SETTINGS? Here's what the software dose after you setup the distention where you're saving the document, quality etc. The software shows you tiny review of scanned document then ask you every time where you want to save the document then shows you another preview and ask you again where you want to save it. Image doing that for 10-20 each scan. UGH!! annoying!!

Then we come to customer service. Is the worst. When I requested to return it, and because I no longer have the box, I was told that I had to pay $135 which's 50% of cost of Scansnap just for the box. AWEFUL!!
Nice hardware, but the Mac software for business card scanning is complete junk
March 15, 2014
Let me start off by saying that I bought this to use exclusively as a business card scanner. Therefore, if the rest of the Mac software is better, I haven't even looked at it. I have a separate flatbed/auto-feeder scanner that I use for documents. So someone looking to use the S1300i as a document scanner may fare better than I did.

The hardware looks pretty good. Nice and compact, with a quick scan button on the top. Not a show-stopper, but due to the well in the feeding mechanism, it puts a slight curve into most business cards, but not enough to be a problem if you are putting them into a business card sleeve. If using a rolodex or flat file, it may be not be as desirable a trait. It may also have feeding issues with heavy stock business cards.

But the big problem is the software.

The S1300i ships with the old Card IRIS software, which even their own customer support admits is old and pretty terrible. Other models ship with a newer and reportedly better program.

I've verified I'm using the latest version, and I've gone to the software download page on Fujitsu's web site to check for other software options. There are none.

Here's some of the show-stopper failures of this software:

- The export to Outlook option fails with a "Script Failed" error without further explanation. Wrote that off as non-functional. Great.
- It scans the front & back of cards separately, then displays each as an image in a scrollable stack. When you choose the "delete image" option, I would expect the list to become shorter with the removal of that image from the list. Nope. It replaces the image with a generic Card IRIS image, leaving the data it OCRd in the fields intact. Not entirely sure it would ultimately import it, but this is just so stupid I am speechless.
- The only phone number fields are "Phone", "Phone 2" and "Mobile phone". It maps "Phone 2" to "Home" in the subsequently created contact. This is ridiculous. Aside from the fact that most business cards do *NOT* tend to include a home phone number (and thus it is demented that this is the default), this should be a configurable field that aligns with the fields of the selected output program. Options such as "Work" and "Company Main" are much more appropriate. The only way to fix the phone number fields is to manually search out the contacts that are subsequently created one at a time and edit them to move the phone number to the right field.
- Not that this is a show-stopper, but I find it unusual that there is not even an option to export the image of the card into the contact that gets created.

This software is so terrible, I reached the conclusion that it would be less work to enter the contact information manually for a stack of cards on my desk rather than using this software before I have a chance to send it back. That's bad.

I am told that the newer models such as the IX500 ship with a much newer and much better program called CardManager. Fujitsu customer support tell me that they do not believe there is any reason that software would not work with the S1300i, unless there is a function that intentionally disables it if it detects this model. However, they are not permitted to make that software available to customers of products that did not ship with it.

Since I already have a full-sized scanner, and since $500 is not a reasonable price for a business card scanner, the IX500 is not an option. I think it is a complete failure on the part of Fujitsu's product manager to not have made the newer software available for use with all currently-shipping products. But that is their choice, and as a result, I will be dumping them and sending this back as quickly as possible.

---

Update:
A Fujitsu customer service rep nervously agreed to send me the URL to download the newer CardManager app, expressing concern she may face disciplinary action for prioritizing customer service. I made it clear to her that I would be very happy to let her manager know my true and honest thoughts if she does indeed face any sanctions for caring more about customers than her management.

Therefore, I have now had a few minutes to examine the Mac version of CardManager, which Fujitsu does not want its S1300i customers to have. It's better, but not great. The "Home" phone number issue is resolved, because now the software only recognizes one single phone number instead of two. That is NOT what I had in mind as a solution. Fields still cannot be manually mapped. The Address field does not permit manual editing of Street/City/State/Zip/Country, and it all shows up in one single text area field. That means you won't know if it organized them into the right fields until after it exports to Contacts.

Similarly, the broken export to Outlook as been "fixed" through the removal of that feature (I'm seeing a pattern here). The only export option is now to Contacts.

It also lost a feature from CardIRIS that permitted a string of text to be automatically included in the Notes field of any scanned contact.

So overall, it still utterly fails the test of whether it simplifies the process substantially. There is absolutely NO REASON a user should ever have to pull up a newly scanned contact in any other app after the export to add or fix information, because the opportunity to fix all data should be in the Card Manager app. The export should be the absolute final step in the process.

It's still crap, and it's still going back.
