Five Star Reviews: | 57% Quality product! June 17, 2017 Great product has been used in my family for many generations. This was a gift purchased for my niece. The quality is stellar. The price is excellence. They last forever if you take of them properly. Famous Foley Mill May 23, 2017 This is the second Foley food mill in my lifetime. I had one for more than 40 years and swore by its efficiency. The resson I bought this one is because the first was not stainless steel and was beginning to show just spots.I love this mill for making my Italian sauce. It strains out all the skins and seeds from my tomatoes. Great tool very useful I seen a latso negative reviews ... May 21, 2017 Item was delivered on time ,tried right away .Great tool very usefulI seen a latso negative reviews on this item, like rosty my advaiseDot not put on dishwasher machine ,the soaps have strongs cleanersthat's tarnish the metalThanks very much AMAZON company that I trust from the beginningspecially on my portfolio A must for any cook who wants no-lump mashed potatoes!! October 12, 2015 I can't have a kitchen without one of these food mills. Bought this one for my friend. I've had mine for 50 years, so it's not really shines like the new one. But, my old one still works like a charm. I purchased a food mill for each one of my kids when they started out in their own kitchens. If they want me to cook when I visit, they make sure the mill is handy for me! The only drawback that I can see with the new mill, is that the handle isn't one piece like the old ones. But you can get a silicon pot holder (the kind that just fits over the pot handle) that should solve any "grip" problem on the new mill. Kitchen workhorse October 8, 2015 After 25 years of regular, moderate to heavy use, my previous Foley food mill had worn out. I was delighted to find that the new one is just like the old one! We've been using it weekly all summer, processing veggies from the garden, and fruit from the orchard. I'm so glad that there has been no reduction in the quality of spring, handle, bowl brackets, blade, or vessel! 3.5 Qt Stainless Steel Food Mill by Mirro Foley September 9, 2011 I've had 2 different food mills over the years, but didn't use them much because they were zinc coated and that left a metallic taste on tomatoes and other citrus foods.I'm now more heavily involved in food procession for both freezer and canning, and found I needed a Food Mill again. I did just a little research and decided on the 3.5 qt by Mirro Foley, the same brands I had before, because I knew what to expect. I wasn't disappointed. My first job was pureeing and separating out the seeds and skins from grill-roasted tomatoes for canning. It is the quality I expected, it works as expected, and there is no unexpected extra metallic taste!I'm looking forward to running the passion fruit pulp through the mill to separate out the seeds. I have 2 gallons of strawberry guava in the freezer awaiting the same process for jam.I highly recommend this unit, in stainless steel. | 80% This set is perfect for someone who is just starting out canning September 29, 2017 This set is perfect for someone who is just starting out canning! I got my own stuff (this and a canner), and had my mom come over to my house. She was impressed that I had all of the things necessary to can. She showed me how to use all of the tools that I received so I didn't use the manual too much but each of them worked well and did their job nicely. Easy to clean and easy to store. Like the packaging, love the product. Great set of canning tools August 23, 2017 A great basic set of canning tools. Nothing fancy, just what you need to do an excellent job. For canning a few times a year this is great August 9, 2017 I have had this little kit about 2 years now, and it included everything I needed except an instant thermometer which I already had. Everything is still in perfectly usable shape. I keep the set all together so I bought an additional funnel for other uses. For canning a few times a year this is great. I find the bubble popper and magnetic lid lifter the most helpful and useful. I also appreciate that the jar lifter is ... May 21, 2017 This canning set is extremely helpful while I prepare to pressure can! The tools make the process go much smoother as I have the tools for every step ready to go. I find the bubble popper and magnetic lid lifter the most helpful and useful. I also appreciate that the jar lifter is not metal and doesn't pose any possible wear and tear to the jars! I got real good use out of the canning set this summer November 3, 2016 My package arrived promptly and undamaged. I got real good use out of the canning set this summer. The six pieces are a great starter kit if you are interested in canning. Everything you need is included in the box as the description says. I can see using this same set for a number of years to come since I don't do extensive canning.I highly recommend this product for beginners as well as seasoned pros. I absolutely love them, because before I used to be so ... March 5, 2016 I absolutely love them, because before I used to be so worried that I would drop the hot jars getting them out of the canner using the regular tongs! I love canning food, but I also got burned quite a bit using the old utensils. Now I am able to can more safely, especially with the jar lifters, as they have a special shaped lifter that actually fits the rims of the lids and takes them out of the canner better. I can safely release the pressure in the canner and cut the processing and cool down time down exponentially. The entire set is great, and a wonderful aid to working in the kitchen! | 72% Very Happy with Purchase September 15, 2016 I purchased this as a gift for a family member who has recently started canning. He is extremely happy with it. He loves the rack, which makes taking jars out of the water bath easy. It is also very large so he can do bigger batches. It's heavy duty and quality made. I expect it will last many years with proper care. Made jam making much easier August 19, 2016 This was my first time making real jam - actually sterilizing the jars and then processing them after. I was originally going to use a large pot to process the jars and tongs to remove them once they were don't. I'm so glad I decided to buy this canner instead! It even comes with canning instructions. The rack to lower and lift the jars worked perfectly. It was a tad to big for the amount of jam I was making but over all, this made my jamming process a lot easier. I've only used it once, but it seems made of a lightweight yet sturdy material. Very useful, we love it! August 2, 2016 This has proved to be a very useful purchase. We initially bought it just for water baths, but it's a great size for making large batches of stocks, soups and stews! It takes up quite a lot of room on our stove and overlaps the next burner, so that it's unusable. But that's hardly a complaint. In fact, we are thinking we may need a 2nd one very soon! Very nice pot for stock and canning July 25, 2016 I like this because it is large enough to make my stock in, as well as using it for my canning. I've already made pickles. It was really great to get the insert to lift the jars in and out of the hot water. And my pickles turned out great. I haven't made them in a very long time. This is a great deal. MUST GET if you are new to canning as I was. Love it ! January 22, 2015 Brand new to canning but used this my first batches of 3 jams for Christmas gifts. Turned out great. Seems like it cost me a fortune to get bottles and the canning kit and then the fruit, etc. but now that I have all, I will be making a lot of jam. I made fresh peanut butter in my Vitamix so gave both in matching bottles with tags. Cute and very liked. Still getting calls about the banana jam. Great pot. Perfect and did not break my wallet. Made in the USA June 5, 2013 After attempting to make jam without a waterbath canner, I ordered this item directly. It's just like the one my mom used when I was a kid, and I look forward to many years of happy canning. The quality is better than the others I've looked at lately in the stores, and the price on AZ was far less. Made in the USA is a great perk, and something I look for when purchasing, so I was glad to see my faith in American made products was met with a quality item. | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet |
Four Star Reviews: | 16% this style still works best November 5, 2017 1, I love this, my Grandmother had one and this works just like I remember. This one is larger though and holds a lot more than Gram's did. No skins or seeds in my apple sauce, no stings in my squash soup, much nicer than my previous one.2, I wanted to give 4.5 stars because this would work so much better if the handle was put on from the bottom up instead of top down, so it sat more level and allowed more room in the receiving Pan/bowl instead of tipping so much and sitting so far down in and taking up usable space. This was great! Just like the one my Mom had December 13, 2016 This was great! Just like the one my Mom had. We made applesauce with it. We did core the apples first, so I don't know how it would have done with the seeds and all in it.Handle design should have been solid, would be easier to hold on to. Overall would recommend it! Just as good as the same brand I had for 30 years ... September 11, 2014 Just as good as the same brand I had for 30 years but got rid of because I didn't think I could use my arms again for making jellies and applesauce after surgery. I am stronger now years later and find this model similar but the handle is hard to grip without a potholder while bearing down on the turning. Works best when set on top of a saucepan with a handle so the potholder can be wrapped around both the mill's handle and the saucepan handle at the same time. Gets the job done! Turns easily, gets all the juice out on the first ... August 30, 2014 I used this to make about 12 quarts of tomato soup this year and it gave me no problems. I had gotten it to replace an old, somewhat rusty food mill that my grandma had given me as a hand-me-down that was on its last legs. Turns easily, gets all the juice out on the first go, didn't rust, was surprisingly not terrible to hand-wash (I don't have a dishwasher, though I imagine it'd be easier to wash that way), the little feet-latch things fit on a variety of pot sizes---all around a good mill. | 17% Cheaply made but no suprise June 24, 2017 Just as I ordered, a little cheap construction but that was to be expected. Otherwise perfect! May 5, 2017 Works as intended. I didn't give it 5 stars due to appearance. While everything is green, they are different shades of green. Otherwise perfect! Good basic canning kit July 30, 2016 This is a good overall canning set at a good value.I have used these for pickling garlic, green beans, okra and cucumbers. The only issue I had is one time the plastic gripper separated from the jar lifter when I first used it. I pushed it back together and it hasn't been a problem since. It may not have been assembled completely when made. Not too shabby!!! (For a first time canning.) November 8, 2015 Great for first time canning! I recently went apple picking and got a half bushel of apples... what to do? What to do? MAKE APPLE BUTTER! I got the Norpro 6 canning set and it worked great. It was easy to clean and didn't break the bank. Only reason for taking away a star: the grabber tongs came apart when I was pulling the cans out of the boiling water. Easy enough to fix... just a little wonky.Looking forward to using this in the summer for jams!!! | 15% Like it August 14, 2017 Very big and will not fit on one burner on my electric stove. Also, left a brown mark on white top after boiling so hot for so long. But it has a great price and got the job done. this is great! The pot keeps even heat and boils nicely March 27, 2017 I would give 5 stars except for the fact that the rack has some rust in the edges after one use. I'm sure after a while, I'll have to replace it. Don't want rust all over my jar lids. Otherwise, this is great! The pot keeps even heat and boils nicely. For the good price, I highly recommend! The rack it comes with is pretty flimsy and started to rust almost immediately but I ... January 16, 2016 Does the trick for canning quart, pint and half-pint jars. The rack it comes with is pretty flimsy and started to rust almost immediately but I only use it to keep the jars off the bottom of the pot so it's not really a problem. It's also useful for those rare times I'm cooking a dozen ears of corn, or steaming lobsters. I'd buy it again. Perfect for what it is. October 27, 2014 This is a great addition to my kitchen. I love to cook and bake. This is the same canner my grandmother and aunts use, and it's clear why: it's extremely good at that job. Upon receiving it, I immediately rinsed it out and got started canning the applesauce I had just made. The pot is sturdy and well-made (although only single-layer metal), and the rack is stable and sturdy as well. It's huge and holds a lot of water. I only put six 8 oz. cans in it, but it could've easily held nine or ten. Overall, the canner worked exactly as intended.Pros: cheap, does its job, large, sturdy.Cons: takes a long time to heat water (because it's so big), probably wouldn't be good for much other than canning/boiling water (since it's single-layer metal and not as good at distributing heat). Basic but functional March 5, 2014 I'm very new to canning so don't have much to compare to but this seemed like a reasonably good set. I've used it a couple times and seems to work well. Takes a very long time to heat up the water to a boil but it is a very large capacity! It would be nice if the rack had more structure to it to hold the jars in place (they can fall over fairly easily while you're trying to move them) but that might prohibit jars of different sizes.Overall, good quality and functional set. Bought to replace my steamer canner January 3, 2014 Nice size. lightweight -- just what I expected. I had a similar-sized steamer canner for the past 10+ years that I have been limping along with. I didn't relish the idea of waiting for water to boil (instead of using steam) but it wasn't a big deal at all. Plus, it just seems a lot safer. I did return my first one because the enamel was chipped on the bottom. The replacement has some imperfections in the coating, but I think it will be fine (at least I hope so) | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet |
Three Star Reviews: | 9% Jury's still out July 26, 2017 There was no instruction booklet with this product. It was harder to work than I thought it would be. Maybe the bolt needs to be tightened? ... of the food under the blade so more is wasted. I takes a lot of scrapping the food ... January 22, 2017 It's OK but does not catch more of the food under the blade so more is wasted. I takes a lot of scrapping the food in order for it to be processed under the blade. Just so you know I am a 39 year old woman in perfect health. It's not like I'm old and arthritic September 28, 2016 Just okay. This is my first food mill purchase so I wanted something that wasn't going to break the bank but still get the job done. It does. My only complaint is the handle. Poorly designed, it hurts my hand with just one small batch of applesauce. I even put an oven mitt on to help cushion it a bit. Just so you know I am a 39 year old woman in perfect health. It's not like I'm old and arthritic. It does make beautiful applesauce though. Its adequate, but just May 14, 2016 It does what its supposed to, but not easily. After ten minutes of making apple sauce, I had a bad cramp in my left hand. Also, the paddle bend is too shallow. By that I mean, the blade that rotates and forces the food through the holes isn'tt high enough. You have to work extra hard to make up for it. Old one was better machined December 13, 2015 I got this to replace our old foley food mill which was rusting and probably not adding good things to the food we milled. This one will never rust. If you have never had a food mill, they are very useful for making apple sauce or tomato sauce. We don't bother to peel the tomatoes, just cook and run through the mill, skins and seeds stay behind. That said, The new food mill is much lighter and more flimsy than the old mill. The auger does not fit as tightly over the mesh, so it takes more turns to squeeze out whatever you are trying to separate from peels or seeds. I get the feeling that I am leaving more apple/tomato pulp behind, and I hate waste. I would have paid more for a heavier stainless steel mill if I had realized this was so thin. Its OK but not great February 18, 2015 It takes a long time to process apples into apple sauce. I wish it pushed the apples through faster, but it is nice and smooth when it finally processes all the apples. I was hoping this would be faster than a manual potato masher, but it actually takes longer. And the bottom screw drips gray goo (maybe grease) if it gets wet. I have only used it twice so far and I cleaned off the bottom screw really well after the last time. Hopefully it won't drip gray goo any more. | 2% It works. Feels cheaply made. Better options out there. June 12, 2017 It works for it purpose however there are better options. Everything about this set feels cheap. As I mentioned, it does it job but if you want a nice solid set of canning tools, look around. Ok quality for the money February 8, 2017 I immediately replaced the jar lifter in this set due to the lack of sturdy construction. All other items all fine just didn't like the cheapness of the jar lifter. I bought the Ball pro lifter to replace the kit lifter. Four Stars November 23, 2015 A good starter set for occasional use. We melted the plastic funnel and the jar lifter comes apart if you pull too hard. The problem is, the metal is not continuous through the black cylindrical handles, rather, it inserts, and not far enough, into each end of the cylinders. Its a good enough set for 20-30 jars on occasion. This canning set is nice, though while pickling carrots March 23, 2015 This canning set is nice, though while pickling carrots, I only found a use for the funnel, lifter and magnetic lid lifter. I am new to canning but don't find the other tools necessary. With that said, the price of the set is great and the other tools may come in handy someday when I am trying to can new things. The value is very good. Quality is just-so October 16, 2014 An ok set of tools for canning. This doesn't scream "quality", not "last forever" for the metallic parts But the price was great. So overall I give it 3 stars. The funnel is ok but not more. I'll buy something better separately | 6% Rust after 1 use! September 20, 2017 I used the water bath canner and once i was done, I washed/put away. I used it again a few days later and noticed rust on the rack edges and on the pot itself. I have soft water that is also filtered so I am very disappointed that its rusting and makes me question the material. Other than that, it does the job. Canning rack rusts July 18, 2016 I guess I shouldn't have expected too much at this price point. The canning rack rusted the very first time I used it. The pot seems fine though. Works for minimal canning. June 24, 2016 Good starter kit but took forever to boil on my electric stover. I assume the units that cost more have a sturdier bottom that conducts heat better. If you just can a few things a year this will work just fine. great pot though November 11, 2015 Can't use this on my glass cook top so I have to use the burner on my grill outside to can...great pot though, big and heats quickly... Good cheap canner, but can NOT use on Glasstop stoves!! June 11, 2014 No where in the description of this item did it say it could not be used on glasstop stoves. So I can't use it.However, the quality seems to be decent for being a cheap canner, and the rack inside seems pretty durable, not thin cheap metal where it bends. Seems decently thick and sturdy. Wish I could have used it! I ended up having to buy a Presto aluminum pressure canning pot! Good, but flawed November 15, 2012 Good product, but there was a flaw in the porcelain coating on the inside. This will affect the life of the product. I, personally, don't feel it's worth the time and trouble of returning the item. But, when it gives out, I'll replace it with something different. | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet |
Two Star Reviews: | 7% Too lightweight, not durable. April 5, 2017 foley mills in general are super cool and very helpful, but this is not the most durable version. My handle broke off and also I had to replace the washer at the bottom multiple times with multiple trips to the hardware store. Granted, I do process like 15 bushels of various fruits each summer. It might be OK for occasional use. The high capacity is nice. The stainless steel is nice. Black residue contaminate food December 19, 2016 this item worked as they said it would. i did however have several complaints such as the metal it's made out of is very thin and the hooks that latch onto the pots bend flat and are useless the main issue though was the Metal would turn black and leave a residue in the food and made it unusable after third or fourth time i used it. it's good for just a couple of times but that's it. though I would probably recommend find one of a higher quality Do not recommend-food gets trapped under milling blade! December 6, 2016 I bought this food mill so I could tackle making 10# of mashed potatoes for Thanksgiving dinner. The potatoes were sliced into 1/2" thick pieces so they could more easily be processed but potatoe kept getting compacted and stuck under the milling blade. I had to constantly stop and scrape the potato up thus making the whole process very laborious and long. Eventually the 10# of potatoes were processed but I was not happy with the amount of time and effort it required so I returned the mill. I would love a recommendation for a mill that does not trap food underneath its blade. Two Stars October 29, 2016 Now where as good as the original Foley sieve that was my mother's which finally gave up the ghost. The manufacturing tolerance is off. The blade does not reach the edge of the mill so that it builds up the material being sieved and takes too long to get all the food thru the mill and wears your arm out. Wouldn't Recommend For Applesauce - Not Efficient. November 20, 2014 I bought this food mill expressly to make applesauce. Previously, I'd used a friend's antique wooden food mill attachment for her Kitchenaid mixer. The antique wooden one worked much better, although the size was smaller - the peels and pits were more clean and easier to discard. With the Foley Stainless Steel Food Mill, the paddle gets stuck a lot by the apple pits. It ends up either stopping entirely, or sort of dragging the pits along the bottom. Sometimes it grazes over the pits and you'll have a thin layer of applesauce just sitting at the bottom. It also would push the peels down to the bottom and they'd get just stuck there, covering the holes, and no applesauce would come out the bottom until you scraped them off. Also the bottom spring got a little mucked up with applesauce and started dripping gray liquid into my sauce. I think it was a little grease or metal from the mechanism. Pretty gross. All in all, it did work, but not efficiently, and it required a lot of manual labor. It would have been less of a hassle and just about the same amount of waste if I had peeled and cored the apples beforehand (a step I was trying to eliminate by using the food mill). As other users have noted, the handle itself is not too comfortable to grip. Also, the metal clamps which supposedly keep the food mill over a bowl are slippery as they don't have any rubber or grip to them - a towel or piece of rubber matting will help, but that's something the manufacturer should have thought of. So as you're manually cranking the food mill, it sort of slips and slides around, unless you're really gripping the handle and pushing it against the bowl. It ends up being a pretty good arm workout.Due to Amazon's new stricter return policy, I can't return this just because it doesn't work for me, unfortunately. So it's back in that awful corner cabinet in my kitchen where I store things I don't use very much. Next summer I may try it out with some sort of berry jam, and hopefully it will work better at removing berry seeds than it did for applesauce. I am very much disappointed with the quality of my "new' Foley Food mill October 31, 2014 I am very much disappointed with the quality of my "new' Foley Food mill. It replaces one that was 40+ years old. The only reason I need to replace it is that the metal nut piece fell in the disposal and became bent. Otherwise, I think it would have outlived me! The weight of the new product is lighter, the handle - formerly a solid piece of metal - is now a metal loop as shown above. It does not give the firm support needed to process anything bulky, i.e. processing a bowlful of food takes much longer. My main complaint is that the screw mechanism and thin wire rod on the bottom of the mill do not screw tightly enough to offer the needed resistance to the straining process. Also, after 20-30 turns I have to check my processed food to make sure no "grey liquid spots" have contaminated the food. It appears to me that the friction of the screw and nut piece are causing pieces of the metal to wear off and drop into the food. This never happened before.I know there are many other products available which could provide the same processing. I chose the Foley Mill because of its reliability and performance. I am very disappointed with what I got. | 0% This came missing a piece (lid lifter magnet). I ... October 23, 2014 This came missing a piece (lid lifter magnet). I needed it right away, so I went out and bought the missing piece.Box doesn't come sealed. | 3% Don't get this if you have a flat cook top ... January 1, 2016 Don't get this if you have a flat cook top. The bottom is ridged. I had to return it as you can risk cracking the top of your stove. Thin, Lightweight. but still works. November 28, 2015 Very thin, not your mothers pot... porcelain chips when pot is easily dented. ONLY to be used for canning December 14, 2014 I returned this because once it arrived I saw that it was ONLY to be used for hot water bath canning. I wanted it for a stock pot - wasn't going to work for that purpose. problems with quality October 24, 2013 There was a dent in the pot and a couple sharp places where the surface was not smooth on the edge of the lid and pot. If I am not careful when washing/handling it I could cut myself on it. Also the package was bent when delivered, as have been all packages I have gotten from Amazon. granite ware pot great, rack not September 2, 2012 The granite ware pot that I purchased is great. The rack is very questionable. After one batch of canning the coating on the rack is all bubbled up and peeling off, Not sure if it is safe to use again, not sure what chemical is spayed on it. I tried to email seller but it is the only item I have purchased from amazon that there is no options to leave feedback for seller. Not sure how to return one piece of a product. The pot is a great size. | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet |
One Star Reviews: | 11% ... bearing for the crank would deposit a black grease like substance into the potatoes forming black streaks November 26, 2016 When using this product to rice potatoes the bearing for the crank would deposit a black grease like substance into the potatoes forming black streaks. Totally unacceptable, would not recommend this product to a friend.Product was returned to Amazon for a credit.FIVE stars to Amazon for their handling of the return and the issuing of the credit.Ordered a CUISINOVA Potato Ricer as replacement; hope it preforms better than the FOLEY. Lousy design November 5, 2016 Lousy design enabled food (cooked, quartered apples) to go over paddle instead of being pushed through the mesh. Also, the few apples I did get to go through ended up wasted as screw/nut apparatus on underside of unit leaked nasty oil into the applesauce, even though I had first washed the unit. Returned it. Avoid - Metel in my applesauce September 4, 2016 I would rate this a NEGATIVE 5 stars if I could. Metal in my food!! Stay away from this product. I figured with the Foley name associated with it it had to be good. After using it once, I now think Mr. or Ms. Foley would be tossing in their grave to know their name was on this product. It arrived timely enough. I had just harvested a few bushel of apples from the tree in my yard, had the canning jars and canner all ready to make applesauce. When I unpacked the food mill, I noticed that there were no instructions included. Not a big deal, I had used a similar food mill before so figuring it out was easy. I washed it thoroughly in hot water, dried it and put it together. I loaded it up with about 4 cups of cooked apple slices, began turning the crank to press the apples through the mill then stopped after several turns of the crank to check on how it was looking in the pot where the sauce was going. "What the ??????" There were black "drippings" in the middle of the pot in my applesauce! Ruined, I thought. There was no oil or grease anywhere on the mill so it couldn't be that! As I looked closer, I could see that the black liquid dripping into my applesauce was ground up metal coming from where the stem of the mill press rotates through spindle of the sieve (see picture).Grrrrrrrr! I emptied out the pot, washed everything and looked at the spindle and stem again and could see where the metal had rubbed off. Then I also noted that one of the many holes of the sieve where the sauce is pressed through still had the metal tab in it. It was only partly punched out when it was manufactured and was hanging there ready to drop into my food to be swallowed later (see picture).I thought I would contact Mirro or Foley directly, however, not only were there no instructions and no warranty included in the box it came in, there was no phone number either. Isn't that great for the consumer! However, the package did clearly say "Made in China." I called Amazon for a return, which they did provide for, boxed the food mill back up and returned it. Fortunately I did not ruin much of the sauce. Sure glad I checked the sauce before I did. As far as pushing the softly cooked apples through, the mill did not work all that great - poorer than I expected.I resorted to my old standby of a large metal straining basket (about 2.5 qrts size) and pressed the cooked apples through it using a large wooden spoon. In about 20 minutes later I had 3 gallons of great sauce. Maybe there is a great Foley food mill out there someplace but this one is certainly not one of them. Not even close to my old one and it leaves a stain in the sauce November 15, 2015 I purchased it to strain cooked apples for applesauce. The old one is made of aluminum and I wanted to switch to stainless steel. I purchased the larger one to get the job done quickly. It works very slowly, much slower than my old one. Also, despite cleaning it carefully several times, it left a gray deposit in the middle of the applesauce so, I had to throw the applesauce away. I tried it several times and cleaned it several times. I suspect the center spindle is reacting with the applesauce and corroding. Broke quickly and made a mess. October 26, 2015 I bought this based on reviews and i have to say that it doesnt hold up. The shaft pivots in a stainless steel bushing and that ended up coming apart. The bushing ripped right out of the bowl portion. I cant get it back in because the bowl is cracked around the location where it goes. I have only used it to make applesauce for 1 year. Though i make about 2 bushels of applesauce i still think it should last longer. I also had the issue of the shaft wearing in the bushing and would give off some black goop that would drip into my applesauce. I had to spoon it off all the time. Not very nice at all. Poor craftsmanship/design, buy the OXO instead September 16, 2014 I purchased this food mill because of the high reviews and because it was less expensive than the OXO mill. BIG mistake! First of all, the mill is very awkward to use and feels flimsy. The handle is a pain to hold (even with a towel) and the little hooks on the side kept bending out of shape so the mill would fall into the pot I was milling over. However, never having used a food mill before I thought this must just be how they all are and I'd have to live with it.So I continued to use it heavily for things like tomato sauce, apple sauce, plums, etc but in just a little over a month it broke! The middle section where the crank attaches came clean off! It seemed like the welding was shoddy or the metal was too thin in that area or something.I returned it and purchased the OXO food mill which I HIGHLY recommend. So easy to use, sturdy, works great. Love, love, love it. Save yourself the hassle and purchase the OXO one in the first place. You'll be very glad you spent the extra dollars. | 1% The most useful item in the set is the jar lifter which ... September 1, 2016 You get what you pay for, I guess, which is not much in this case. The most useful item in the set is the jar lifter which is also unfortunately the worst made item. The metal part of the handle separated from the black plastic part on the first use. After a few uses, both sides separated. This is dangerous when you're handling hot glass jars as you can easily lose your grip on the jar. This could've been avoided if the metal frame went into the plastic a little further but the manufacturer probably saved a penny. The rest of the items (with the exception of the magentic lid lifter) most probably already have in their kitchens. The most critical component of the set, the jar lifter, is made extremely cheaply and may cause a dropped jar and possible cuts and/or burns. One Star September 27, 2015 magnet is so weak that the lids cannot be taken out from the sterilizer without falling back down. | 4% but the bottom of the pan was caved in about 1/2" deep at the worst spot, and what's worse August 23, 2015 I guess I really shouldn't be surprised, given the price, but the quality of this product just isn't there. My pot came very well-packaged in a cardboard box with inserts, but the bottom of the pan was caved in about 1/2" deep at the worst spot, and what's worse, the nature of the damage means that the pot sits cockeyed on a medium-sized burner. I'm not surprised about this at all though, because the steel is so thin they needed to corrugate the bottom to put some stiffness into it. I'd guess that the steel is probably around a 26-28 ga (almost like thick paper), not including the enamel.Oh, and the lid doesn't sit flat on the pot. I guess I could use this on a campfire as a steam generator? I wish it would be worth my while to return this crappy thing. This had a dent in the bottom and the enamel ... March 18, 2015 This had a dent in the bottom and the enamel was coming apart on the inside. I had to send it back. Disappointed September 18, 2013 I have only used this canner a few times, and have been careful to empty/clean it gently when finished, but it already has a small rusty spot that appears to extend through the whole bottom of the pot. I fear it will leak before too long, and would have expected much better quality. Lasted 2 years...dissappointed January 15, 2013 Loved this canner at first. I bought it because it was slightly taller than my older one so it didn't boil over when I was processing quart jars. I can quite a bit but I expected the life of the pot to be longer than 2 years. Just this evening I filled it up and there was a small hole in the bottom edge...it leaks and is totally worthless. I have seen this happen in much older pots but not one that was this new. BIG DISAPPOINTMENT. Also, had to purchase a stainless steel rack after a month as the one included had rusted. Rack inside pot rusts quickly September 28, 2011 Avoid low price such as this. The rack inside the pot corroded within the first week. I now use clean towels in the bottom of pot to keep jars from breaking. The heavy duty bright green carrier by Ball Canning is good but doesn't fit but 5 small jars at a time. | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet |
