Five Star Reviews: | 40% Had this for the last 6+ months and used it SEVERAL TIMES alrdy for LONG periods of time. still on same bulb. November 27, 2014 Highly recommended. Gives you some really great light especially in those hard to crawl and reach places like crawl spaces. It gets really hot, but that is normal. I bring this up bcs once your done using it for the day, make sure you let it sit separate away from everything else in an open space for at least 10-15 mins to let it cool down some. And absolutely DO NOT put it into a cold environment for the purposes of cooling it down after usage. You risk cracking the lense and possibly the light bulb. One great bonus, is that it comes with extra bulbs as well. I've had this for the last 6+ months and used it SEVERAL TIMES alrdy for LONG periods of time. My average period of time was at least around 3 hours on average per use. Still on the same bulb. The only thing missing is a longer cord. But that is typical & common with these lights from most companies that make them.Last but not least, this was especially a great value and great quality for price. It was Much better than I expected. Lights up my work June 21, 2014 One bright little light. My only complaint was no on/off switch. But one trip to the hardware store and that problem was solved. It has an extra bulb on the stand and is a solid work light. The price was awesome at Amazon and I'm sure I'll get years of use out of it. Need a small lamp and bright light. Get this one. March 5, 2014 This lamp is bright is awesome. My mother said you can land a plane with this.It is no taller than maybe a 1 foot but provides all the light you need.I got two but I believe I will only need one.It does put out a lot of heat so it is good for winters outside. The cord is short. It has to stay close to the plug. Work well. February 10, 2014 They are working great. If at first they don't work, flip the bulb around. We thought that we were doing something wrong but we switched the bulb around and it worked perfectly. There's no on/off switch and it does get very hot. We bought two and used them with an extension cord in our attic while we were putting in new insulation. No complaints, but if you're using them in an area with kis or pets, keep in mind that they get very hot. Unplug them if you walk away for while or take a lunch break. For the price, we couldn't be happier. Great Deal November 1, 2013 Super price for a quality work light. Came as advertised, including the extra bulb. Remember not to touch the bulbs with your bare hands as this "somehow" makes the bulbs burn out prematurely, but that said, the light assembled easily and works great. I bought two and they sure come in handy, can't go wrong! | 54% Great! But base broken after several months August 16, 2017 Worked great til the bottom plastic part of the tripod base broke off. Let's see how they handle the warranty. Works great--lost less heat July 29, 2017 Works great. The old halogen lamp bulbs I had required frequent (costly) replacement. These will last must longer and they are a LOT cooler. I used my infrared thermometer on the halogen bulbs and the temperature was over 275°. These are much better. This fits perfectly for my workshop as accessory lighting - ... July 21, 2017 This fits perfectly for my workshop as accessory lighting - mobile, bright, low heat. May have to get another one! Good quality and very bright with a fair price. Will buy another one. June 29, 2017 Good quality and very bright with a fair price. Will buy another one. Used to light my old boat while I applied varnish ... July 27, 2016 Used to light my old boat while I applied varnish. You always want to keep a wet line and not have any holidays. The lights did the trick. would have liked it able to reach 6 feet at least March 24, 2016 Stand is short, about 4 feet. would have liked it able to reach 6 feet at least. Lights work great, better than expected. They stay cool even after being on for long periods. Can touch with out burning hands or fingers. |
Four Star Reviews: | 25% Bright but hot work light September 13, 2014 This light is exactly what I needed to illuminate my garage workshop late at night or extend the day by lighting up the back yard. It's pretty easy to set up and the operation is intuitive. It does, however, get really really hot. You'd be wise to not use this in any application that might put it near any flammable surfaces, because despite the grille on the front, this thing will burn you if you're not careful. That's to be expected with halogen though, so it's not a huge gripe. I would however, have liked an on/off switch on the unit, instead of just the "plug in and immediately on" operation as it is. Great bright light for under $12 August 15, 2014 Good product-great price. Used it doing work in a crawl space - just don't get too close to the light source - hot as hell. Had mine on for over 6 hours over the course of 2 days - never 'overheated'. Bright flood-type light and up/down adjustable. Only downside is package says comes with a spare bulb - didn't find one in mine. Quite a lamp. April 19, 2014 I have a smaller version of this lamp and it is just right for small jobs. So I thought I would get a higher output lamp for a larger work area. Holy Moly this lamp puts out. It lights up my whole shop and it is a large shop. You better be carful for this thing gets very, very hot. It does what I bought it for. Exactly as pictured, great for what you pay for January 6, 2014 It is a strong light! Looks like the picture, and generously comes with an extra bulb. I purchased two, and 1 of the bulbs was busted but I still had another one to back it up so it was nice. These have VERY SHORT cords, so make sure you have an extension cord handy... but don't plug an extension cord into an extension cord- that will start fires. These lights definitely have the potential to start a fire so don't leave them on too long. They also aren't very movable, so the best way to control is position is with its height, it appears like it would be able to move forward and back, but doesn't do it much or at all. Great Deal for the Price December 8, 2013 I don't do five stars unless a product is above and beyond what I expected it to be. I bought these to use while painting the interior of our house and found them very adequate to do the job. I used the lights for hours on end and only had one annoyance. I wish the nuts that allow the unit to swivel up or down had some type of wing nut on them. After several times adjusting the lights either up or down the existing nuts became loose and the light would fall back and not only shine upwards on the foam handle...there was enough heat of course to see smoke coming from the handle. This means I would have to stop to tighten them back up. If they had the wing nuts, this would be less of an issue and less of an annoyance. But, other than that the lights performed as expected the entire time. It would be nice is there was an on off switch as others mentioned but this really wasn't an issue for me. So far, so good March 26, 2013 I ordered 2 of these lights at the same time. They arrived in one box. Both lights came with a spare bulb. The first light worked right out of the box, with no problems. The second light came with a broken bulb, but the spare one worked, so I have 2 working lights, I'm just down one spare bulb. We will see how ling they last and I will update this review after using them for a while. | 20% Works well. Almost too bright. Lights detach from ... December 22, 2016 Works well. Almost too bright. Lights detach from stand to use by themselves. Handy and hangs from handle if you're careful. works well, kinda short February 24, 2016 As other reviewers said, this is a bit short. The max height is 4' 5" for the center of the lights. It'd be nice if it was a foot or so taller. Powersmith does make a taller one that is also 50% brighter - 6000lm, but it was quite a bit more money. So I got this one. I've used it several times. Works fine, puts out a good bright light, doesn't get hot or draw a lot of current. Switches are easy to use with one hand. It comes with a top handle that seems extraneous to me. To move it, just grab it by the upright pole, under the lights. It was quick & easy to put together. this light is very good. Very February 22, 2016 Overall, this light is very good. Very, very bright, and the biggest benefit vs. the old school Halogens is that these stay cool. No longer have to worry about knocking it over, or letting combustible materials (or kids!) come into contact with, searing hot Halogen lamps. Overall quality of construction is good. Cord is of decent length. I wish the Tripod stand was about a foot taller. at $119, it is a bit expensive, I'd think this should be priced around $80-$90 but, no regrets here. I don't think that anyone would be disappointed with this light. |
Three Star Reviews: | 13% Made in Bucocki? May 25, 2015 Fast shippingWorks as promisedunfortunatelyall these lights on here have a cheap build on them Does the job April 4, 2015 was a pain to put together, gets extremely hot but I guess that's a given with halogen lamps. You can get one with legs at home depot, looks higher quality at home depot too. Does the job though. Spend a bit more, get a much better light June 1, 2014 This is a pretty cheaply made light, with no power switch, and is a bit of a pain the butt to assemble. The light bulb arrived broken but they did thoughtfully include a spare. That being said, it did stay lit for a project we had. It gets so hot that it doubles as a bug zapper. It works fine, but... May 14, 2014 ....don't expect it to be the same unit that you can find at a brick-and-mortar store. Although it does provide the same amount of illumination, it is smaller and lighter than the conventional one. However, it still emits the same candlepower! Good for the price... June 28, 2013 Well, the first thing you'll notice is that the product pictured on the box, on the Amazon page and in the instructions isn't the same product that's actually in the box. Of course it's still a yellow 500 halogen light; but the the "stand" is modeled quite differently, so your single sheet of instructions won't help you out. Fortunately, it's not too hard to work it out on your own. The instructions also don't bother to tell you how to install the bulb, so if you've never worked with these kind of lights before, expect to spend 30-45 taking the bulb out, turning it around, sticking it in another way, and plugging it in to see if it works yet before you actually get it to emit any light. You have to keep plugging it in and out, you see, because there's no on/off switch. Most similar halogen lights I've worked with have big power buttons. Not this one; it's lit the entire time it's plugged in, and the only way to turn it off is to unplug it. That's not a huge problem, but it's less convenient and feels cheap. The cable is also very short. Like, surprisingly so. You'll need to get an extension cord for it in almost all circumstances. So it's not the greatest. But you're probably looking at it because it's only $14. Well, this light does what it's supposed to and it's bright and vertically adjustable. So if you need a cheap light, this'll do, and when you consider that you're getting two bulbs and a sturdy metal light and mini-stand, with the grill accessory for such a low price, it IS a good value. But if you're building a lighting package for yourself, you'll probably find it's worth spending a few more dollars for a nicer experience (i.e. a longer cord and an on/off button). Was a little less than expected December 1, 2012 The light burned out the original bulb after only 20 minutes use. The light has not been dropped or abused at all. It does come as described, but I have found so many for far less money locally that I would recommend checking with the local suppliers first and then compare. I ordered a cooper double light with a stand at the same time and the improved quality of the cooper is very noticable. The 500 watt lights do make nightime work very safe and large jobs are very possible due to the light's 50 to 60 foot working range, maybe more. | 2% Short and wobbly January 27, 2016 Great light output with not much heat. However, the stand is super short and the system is somewhat wobbly. I estimate it between 3 and 4 feet. I'm sure it's in the specs if I took the time to really read them, but I was disappointed with how short it is. |
Two Star Reviews: | 9% Flimsy, and one of the two units was missing ... April 3, 2015 Flimsy, and one of the two units was missing a screw tightner that was impossible to find in a hardware sore. built like crap. but hey March 8, 2015 no on/off switch and a ludicrously short power cable. built like crap. but hey, 10 bucks. Works fine, but you should just buy LED December 24, 2014 Works fine, but the bulbs break relatively easily. We bought some LED work lights from Costco which are only 25 Watts and just as bright for ~$30. I never use this light anymore. I like the style and unit but was unhappy because one ... November 29, 2014 I like the style and unit but was unhappy because one of my units came broken. The piece that holds the metal guard for the light. I had to use special blue and got it to work somehow. broken December 16, 2012 I also received this light broken. The external mailing box was intact, but the box inside had obviously been dropped prior to packing. It was frustrating because whoever boxed it up, had to have seen the damaged box and could hear pieces rattling around inside. We opted for a refund, but Amazon was great and timely to get our refund back to us. Not well built June 26, 2012 The light part works very well, however the shell and the stand is made of very cheap material. It is very tricky to get the protection cage on the light, and a small piece of plastic that is on the rim of the light cover broke off. I really needed the light and it was a minor part to the light the helps hold it on so it was still usable. The light that it puts off is very bright and from that aspect it is very usefull. I just don't see it lasting for very long. | 12% Was good until 1 of the 2 heads started flickering on/off August 30, 2017 Lasted 4 days. Was good until 1 of the 2 heads started flickering on/off.... Defective LED driver..Same as other reviews so it's a QC problem that powersmitth is ignoring...? Unhappy February 22, 2017 I specifically ordered this light stand because I was wanting one that was above my head to shine down on my work. This one stated it was tall enough. However, it was measured to the top of the extra handle (which I don't really know what it's for as the stand won't tighten tight enough to possibly use it for anything) and not the height of the lamps. So it's basically an expensive useless light for my needs. I'm very disappointed. Also, as stated before, the telescoping stand won't tighten enough to stay up where set. Night bright light and would be nice if the stand worked as should and was tall enough. One Star Reviews: | 13% buy a different one November 23, 2015 This broke after about 16 hours. I was just working and heard a crack. The glass shattered. it wasn't struck with any thing, nor was it even close to where i was working. just exploded. the light still works, but without a glass screen it's too much of a fire hazard to use. Avoid spend a few bucks more and get something better May 30, 2015 Fire and burn hazard. This thing gets so hot you can heat a room with it. I wouldn't do that however since it is wobbly and can easily tip over. If it were to come in contact with anything flammable you can expect a fire in short order. wires burnt/melted after less then 2 months of use March 21, 2015 wires burnt/melted after less then 2 months of use Buy this elsewhere for much less. March 12, 2015 Cheap Chinese crapsmanship, just go to wallyworld and buy the same model for less than half the listed price here. Really poor quality. August 21, 2014 Wow is this thing poor quality. The hinge mechanism was broken, the light did not turn on, it was rusty in the box, and the product is not what is pictured (different design)! How can you beat the price though :) I returned and am waiting for my replacement, so we'll see how the next one turns out. It is made in China though... so I get it. | 12% Poor quality. Arrived broken February 8, 2017 Poor quality. Arrived broken. Box was not damaged, but inside all the plastic pieces broken. Even if it did not arrive broken. Don't think it would have lasted long. A total, cheap, and dangerous piece of garbage. April 13, 2016 This is literally one of the worst made, cheapest products I've ever received through Amazon - since 1999. The only reason I haven't yet returned it is that a) I'm too lazy and b) I've already destroyed the box. One of the plastic rings required to tighten/loosen the main stand height adjustment broke the VERY first time I used it. Just cracked right in two, under very little stress. I've now wrapped it in duct tape so I can continue to make use of this piece of garbage. And if you lightly step on the cord? The lights flicker off/on - super. Makes me feel real safe! Honestly, you get what you pay for - and good lights are pricey. This type of quality and construction is below any acceptable standards. Amazon should sell this stuff only if they make clear that you are buying disposable crap. PowerSmith PWL2140TS LED worklight is reasonably good with one huge exception and that is the light ... December 20, 2015 PowerSmith PWL2140TS LED worklight is reasonably good with one huge exception and that is the light switches. There is complete lack of engineering and regard to human operation with the switch design and placement. Two hands are required to operate the light switches, one to hold the light assembly stable and the other hand to operate the switch itself. This is totally unacceptable, and shows a complete lack of consideration of the end-user. Additionally a number of the LED chips remain partially illuminated even with the power switch turned off. This apparently is caused by a poor electronic circuit design. Also moisture has fogged up the inside of one of the lights which shows a lack of adequate seals, and this occurred with indoor use. I would never use this light in a wet environment.I own one of these lights, but can not recommend this product to anyone. Garbage save your money. December 8, 2015 Overpriced China garbage. This is very very poorly made. Better options out there. Try the snap on led light. Much brighter and not POS. |
