I love my Presto skillet!
March 8, 2017
This is the 3rd Presto skillet I've owned and I've loved every single one. The reason I've had to buy a new one every several years is because I use mine ALL the time and eventually, after so much use, the teflon wears off and food sticks to the skillet. I've made various types of meals in this skillet and couldn't be happier with the way it performs. It's a great item to have in your kitchen.
A game changer for a house with no kitchen
December 14, 2016
I could NOT be happier with this skillet. I have been trying to work around a hotplate with a frying pan for a year, and the power cycling turned breakfast into an hour-long ordeal. This appliance has saved. my. weekend. I am able to cook a lot, in a short amount of time. I am able to pan fry a whole bag of dumplings in 15 minutes. Chicken and rice in 30. I can't wait to try it for breakfast!
The perfect electric skillet for my food blog!
February 20, 2016
I absolutely love my Presto 16-Inch Electric Skillet with Glass Cover. You won't find a better skillet anywhere. I had one a long time ago and it lasted for years and years. It finally gave out and I had to get another one. The problem is, I had a very difficult time finding a new one.

Since I couldn't find one, I settled for a different brand. I won't mention the brand name because I don't want to be sued or anything, but lets just say it was junk. It looked okay in the store so I figured I'd give it a try. I couldn't even fry bacon properly in that piece of junk and don't get me started on how if fried eggs. I took it back and got my money back. They asked if I wanted to trade it for a different one, but that was the best thing they had.

I knew I had to find a Presto somewhere. I'm so glad I looked here. The price is very reasonable and the quality is amazing! It truly is nonstick inside and out and it cooks evenly. Cleanup is so easy. No one has time to spend soaking and cleaning pots and pans. At least I don't have the time nor do I want to.

I have a food blog called Deer Recipes and I use my Presto electric skillet constantly. I have fixed everything from Panko Deer Nuggets to Chicken Fried Deer Steak, Creole Deer Burger's to Deer Calico Beans and much more in this skillet and it always turns out perfect.

I know my recipes will turn out perfectly, no matter what I am fixing, when I use this skillet. I have even had people asking me what the brand name is and where they can find it. It seems as if this particular electric skillet is difficult to find in stores.

I absolutely love this electric skillet and would recommend it to anyone that cooks. You will not be disappointed.

Useful Handy Unit!
June 30, 2015
This is another purchase specifically for use in our travel trailer when we are in a R/V Park with full electrical hookups. The three burner propane cook top commonly found in most travel trailers simply does not allow enough space for some food items to be easily prepared and the propane burners can make it quite warm in the cramped space. Granted, this unit does require precious counter space, but, that can be an adjustment to allow for it's other advantages. You simply have more flexibility for food preparation.

Needed separate frying appliance
August 8, 2017
I purchased this item to avoid frying foods on my glass stovetop. After receiving the skillet, I like using it rather than my cooktop because it saves energy and provides different cooking options in addition to frying. Moreover, I have a larger space for cooking. My largest regular skillet is not as large.

This skillet is deep, does not splatter, and it is easy to clean. Lastly, I avoid the dried on grease on the glass stovetop. I keep it on my countertop for myriad cooking projects.
My wife says I'm a "warmer, not a cook"
May 8, 2016
My wife claims I'm "a warmer, not a cook," so don't expect anything close to an expert opinion here. It's cooked (warmed?) what I wanted it to, and it cleaned up nicely. I'm actually learning how to prepare dishes with more than three ingredients (not including salt and pepper).
Quality product, attractive too!
April 25, 2015
First impression, 4 stars. This skillet is of nice quality and has some great attributes. In reading the reviews, I was concerned about the glass lid and the even cooking. The package arrived yesterday and I used it last night. I cooked 6 large pork chops and found that they cooked evenly throughout. I also made skillet potatoes and they cooked quickly, evenly and browned wonderfully. For the ease of "one-pot" cooking, I threw frozen broccoli in some olive oil in the skillet also and it was delicious. Clean up was easy. On the downside, the cord could be a bit longer. The lid is substantial so I'm curious to see why others reported it broke rather easily. Hoping for the best and I'll update later. However, in general the product is high quality. April, 2015
Use it all the time! Barely use the stove top anymore!
November 21, 2014
I love this skillet! We use it all the time. We make grilled cheese, eggs, bacon, casseroles, and have even made chili in it. If you make chili in it, clean it IMMEDIATELY after and do NOT let it sit in the skillet, because the acid in the sauce causes the non-stick coating to bubble and sometimes, peel off a bit. It does not hamper the use of the skillet, however, so that is great.

It is very easy to clean after each use. Make sure you ALWAYS unplug the unit from the cord, or it will keep making odd clicking sounds, even though it is not actually heating up. I do wish the cord was a bit longer. The only reason I did not give it five stars is because we have to keep tightening the screws on the handles, as they become loose, making the handles wobble. I have been trying to figure out a way to stop them from loosening up, but have yet to come up with a safe solution.

I really love this skillet and do plan on buying another one very soon. My In-Laws also want one now that they have seen ours and like how easy it is to use and clean. lol
Good size, works well, easy to clean
January 11, 2013
My first Amazon review. I have used reviews from Amazon faithful to make many purchases over the years and figured it was time to give back. So here goes...

This is my first skillet so I cannot compare to others. Also, I have only owned the Presto and used it for a week or so... but I will try an update my review at a later date.

Negatives: Will start with the bad in order of annoyance. The following is definitely true, although these issues do not bother me too much as it might some. The number one annoyance is not having rubber feet and sliding, I am not sure you can add your own rubber either given the nature of the way the 'feet' are designed. Very thin an curvy but I will probably try if I can find something from Home Dept. I think this will not be dangerous as long as you are aware of this issue and I haven't noticed it as much when cooking. Although, if kids are flying around the house this might be a concern. Furthermore, be prepared to tighten them up with a screw driver often and I mean weekly if used regularly. They will become loose. It does get hotter on the sides than the middle. Very noticeable when cooking beacon, the middle pieces take longer. I can't tell yet if this will affect other types of foods or cooking styles. Everything else is solid from my perspective. I don't use the lid except as a dust free cover so I can't speak to it's quality or effect on cooking. This might change in the future as I find news ways to use this item.

Strengths: I like the coating it seems thick and strong. It tells you how to 'break it in' which I have noticed is often lacking from other similar cooking items. Suggestion from family members I have found helpful... Just wipe it down with warm water for most cleaning which seems to work well and take 2 minutes. Probably not a good idea if using only occasionally but I think this would help with the lifetime on the cooking surface. It seems to heat fast but I feel you need to cook at a slightly higher temp (or higher end of the temp range in the instructions) than normal. Like I already mentioned, easy to clean. Wipe out the excess grease and clean out in the sink with a sponge and warm water/soap (if desired). I have used it for burgers and breakfast foods so far and works very well, fried pork chops planed for tonight. Great for fried eggs which I always struggle to flip without breaking when cooking 'over-easy'. The size is perfect. I thought it might be to large for a couple but ended up a great fit and better too large than too small in my book. If I was still single I would probably want a slightly smaller one.

Summary: It seems very solid at this point and is becoming my favorite cooking device despite the negatives. I use it for breakfast, grilling, and frying so far so I haven't needed (or plan) to use the cover. It cooks great, fast to clean, and served its purpose. I leave it out on the counter as we use it so much and saves cabinet space.

Bi-Polar and erratic heat!
May 3, 2017
Heats unevenly and difficult to control temperature as it is "all or none" with heat. For example, when you turn the temp up to 350 the heat stays ON until that temperature is reached, then kicks OFF until temperature drops. Really difficult to work with. I wouldn't purchase it again.

The plug in fell off the counter after using and cleaning it and broke. So I ducked taped it and it still worked.? Didn't seem to be very durable.
Great to cook, but not the same as a gas range frying pan
November 7, 2016
Real good product and usable wherever an electric socket is available, making it very convenient indeed.

We bought it to cook food like fish outside so the smell wouldn't permeate the whole house. Does the job very very well. But it's not a gas cooker which is always the best choice to cook with. That said it does is job very very well.

It's a really good if of you are not picky about cooking on a gas range and the resulting difference in flavor .
Best so far???
February 1, 2014
I have bought several electric skillets in the past year. The results haven't been positive. I had a skillet that just plain wore out after literally years and years of use. What I don't like about the new ones is the temperature control. Basically it seems to shut off when it reaches the temp and then when it cools down then it kicks back in. So things are cooking, then not, then on again. It does not make for even cooking or crisp fried chicken. The on/off is frustrating. But this skillet is the best so far. Not great but useable. Since I paid more for some others that I gave away after a couple of times using them, I guess it says something that I will keep this one. However, I don't see myself using it as much as I used the old one.
Good, but a little unwieldy, maybe not so great for seniors
July 9, 2011
I am a longtime electric frypan user, so I write as someone who has had many models over many years.

The strengths of this model include ease of use, size and look. You can cook just about anything in it.

There are three drawbacks, as I see it. First of all, it is enormous. Anyone who has a smaller kitchen will want to plan cupboard space for this. And it doesn't get into older cupboards that easily. (The handles really stick out.)

Secondly, of late, it's been making a cracking/arcing sound that I'm not too excited about. It's still working, but I wonder if it means I have a lemon? We'll see.

It's on the heavy side, and I wouldn't recommend it for seniors. The lid, which is glass, is lovely but heavy. I'm fine with it. But I could see my mother struggling with it. (And she loves the convenience of electric fry pans.)

Finally, I use vinegar to clean it, which does a great job getting out the smell and the food from the last dish. Sometimes, soap based products leave a soap residue in these frypans which you can taste in your next dish. (Yuck!) Have some vinegar on hand to clean this one.

Dimensions are a lie in the product comparisons.
October 3, 2016
I am sure it works fine. However, I guess I should have paid attention to the title of the product Presto 16- inch electric skillet. I was so busy reading comparison, that I did not read the title. The comparison list the dimensions as 9 inches x 23 inches x 13 inches. I figured since it was listed that specific it must be right. I just rec'd the box. The box is not even 23" even if you measure it corner to corner like a TV. Wish the dimension would have been stated correctly, so I did not have to waste time in ordering a product that is too small.
Overpriced !!
June 5, 2014
I've owned two of these skillets. I give only 2 stars due to the price; quality would be 3 stars. They are of decent quality but, after even moderate usage, the skillet will only last about two years before teflon wears away. Legs constantly come loose and require retightening; i eventually got tired of this and super glued the screws in.

Don't buy via Amazon, they sell for $29.99 (and NO shipping) at that big boxed blue store.
Temperature Control is Just Plain Sooo Wrong.
February 16, 2014
I like the size and the ease of care. It is easy to wash without getting water in the wrong parts. But the temperature control has been abysmal. I seldom use it. I see others have not had this problem, but it is so unreliable it is often too much trouble to bother with. On Warm it cooks at about 250 or higher. At 200 it is higher than 350. Food burns quickly (within a minute or so once skillet warms up) and I have no control over the cooking times as I am never sure of the temperatures. So, aside from the look of the food, I have to temp test the meat constantly. Meat is impossible to cook because the ouside burns and the inisde is too rare, which is good for steak but not my taste in meatloaf. An hour later, after waiting and fussing and waiting, I might get a decent, sort of, meal.

I can't find another skillet that is this size that isn't the cost of a new football stadium, so I'll keep it but really?
Be careful
February 6, 2013
I love this skillet with one exception. The feet of this skillet are very slick. There is no traction. In turning the Salisbury steak the other night it took off on me and the next thing I knew it was dangling off the counter by the cord and dinner was on the floor. All it would have taken would be manufacturer flattening the foot portion of the leg a little or applying some sort of no slip/rubber foot. I will be sitting the skillet on my silpat for all future use as, in my opinion, this presents a serious safety hazard.
Lunch Truck Lady
September 18, 2011
My first written review, but I find these reviews so helpful - that I thought it necessary to share my experience with this product. Yes, I drive a lunch truck, so I do cook quite a bit. (Large Quantities). I thought this would be easier for some of my skillet fried menu items, example: skillet fried chicken, braised pork chops, sausage & hash-browns, pasta dishes, etc...

From first site, I loved it! Good size, looked durable, and was cosmetically pretty as a kitchen counter item could be, oh forgot to mention, yes... it also worked well. Heated up fast, distribution was good, you learned which spot was a little cooler - but it wasn't too noticeable.

I took good care of it! Used Olive Oil prior to cooking, actually spread it all over with a paper towel as not to be heating up interior without coating. Washed it after well cooled down, dried immediatley. Plus put a thin coat of olive oil on it for when it was stored. Oh! And most importantly, no sharp objects!

To my dismay, after barely 5 months, maybe being used 2-3 times a week. First noticed a small peeling of the coating, then another, now a few weeks later, in another area a much larger blister coming up, about an inch long! With several other blisters forming. Looks like worms under the coating. But no - it's not worms, just air bubbles. :-(

With all of the toxins out there... I don't think this is good. Sad to say, it will be going to the curb. I will not buy another one of these. So disappointed.

Funny thing... I had a smaller one (Presto Model) that lasted over 15 years, no peeling. The electric plug finally just wore out, after the numbers were almost faded. I just still new where to dial to the setting.

September 17, 2015
I purchased this skillet the end of July and decided to try it out today. I wanted to do a roast, and put potatoes in for the last hour. Unfortunately, all the liquid kept steaming out around the cover. I don't know why the lid doesn't fit tight to prevent this, but it doesn't. I had to add liquid seven times and it just kept boiling away. Burnt roast, burnt potatoes, and burnt gravy.I didn't keep the receipt or I would be asking for a refund.
Non-Stick Coating VERY WEAK -- Does NOT Last
June 3, 2015
Would give ZERO stars if could.
Purchased this Presto 16-Inch Electric Skillet new via Amazon.
I've seen these Non-Stick Coatings go bad before -- so I was being extra careful.

I never had this above 375 degrees and almost always between 200 and 300.
Always used a plastic spatula that I bought just for this pan. I NEVER used any kind of metal utensil in this pan.
Cleaned with water, dish soap, and luffa -- NEVER any kink of scrubbing sponge.
Used the pan only a couple times a week, but the nonstick coating is now at least 95% gone from bottom cooking surface.
Sides still sparkle, but coating on bottom is either deteriorated or completely gone.

Customer service is TERRIBLE and they blatantly lied about the pics I sent -- that they requested I send to them.
They claim it is food buildup when high res pics show it is very clean and OBVIOUSLY Not food buildup.
Worst Customer Service EVER.
Shame on Presto.

Edit = I uploaded three pics -- to clearly show clean -- but looks like not included. Will try again.

This pan does not cook evenly as there are significant hot and cold spots throughout the pan. I have made pancakes that had a distinct line running down the middle separating the dark from the barely done side. Save yourself some aggravation and find a different pan.
