A wireless all in one printer with a large footprint. Great for families with school age children.
April 16, 2017
I really like this printer because of its wireless functionality. The other functions of the printer work well, but being able to print from any device on the network is my favorite feature. All the other all-in-one features are there. It does far more than I need it too. Wireless printing and being able to scan are the two features I use most.

Be forewarned; make sure you have the room for a printer this size. The only con could be that it is old school large for a printer. I gave this 5 stars because space was not in issue for me, but if you have limited space this printer loses a star.

I would seriously consider this printer for a family with many devices that often need to print (basically any modern family with school age children).

Canon MG5720 Wireless All-In-One Printer with Scanner and Copier, Black

As a college student, I recently purchased this Canon printer (which includes a scanner and copier) to be able to print various study materials, without having to go to campus. It was on sale for only $40, which was perfect for my price range. I also looked for included ink, wireless connectivity, and a modern look. After around three months of use, I am very pleased with this purchase.

Positives:
o Came supplied with ink
o Wireless connectivity
o Sleek and modern look

Supplied with ink- This printer came supplied with a single cartridge of each color of ink needed. I thought the printer was only going to include black ink, so this was a pleasant surprise. This way, any consumer who purchases this printer can save a little bit of money on ink, especially if you want color.

Wireless connectivity- To add to the perks of this printer, I was able to connect this printer to my computer very easily. Anyone with a Windows or Mac computer is able to print wirelessly or by using a USB cord. The wireless set-up is directly accessible from Microsoft Word or Systems Settings, and then you are able to navigate around the menu from there. Wireless printing from photos is also an option, which is always a nice option to have.

Sleek and modern look- This sleek and modern look is a very positive aspect of purchasing this printer, if you would like for it to look “in style”. I definitely did not want a bulky looking printer, so this choice was perfect. The all black look is very professional, and the menu screen looks very updated. Disregarding looks, you can also Air Print from an iPhone or iPod which is a modern feature.

Negatives:
o Slightly difficult overall set-up

Set-up- Overall I have really enjoyed the printer and gave it 5 stars; nevertheless, I would recommend to be very patient with the set-up. It took just a little longer than expected. The alignment for the paper was also off at first, but it was an easy fix.

Overall, this has been a very reliable printer for all of my schoolwork. I would definitely purchase a Canon printer if needed later on. I recommend this printer/copier/scanner to any individual who is searching for school, work, or personal needs.
Early experience is good
January 20, 2017
I installed this printer only 2 weeks ago but early experience has been favorable. The set up was very easy for wireless printing. The 2-sided print works well, and the color and clarity are fine. Seems like a good value so far.
I am a very happy shopper!
April 13, 2016
I had previously purchased a smaller, cheaper Pixma model which I had to return as being unworkable. I read reviews, reluctant to purchase another Canon. PC Mag had this model as an editor's choice, so I took a deep breath and ordered it. I cleaned all old Canon files off my computer before installing this one. While the installation instructions, so pared down as to be difficult to follow, were somewhat confusing, the installation was a walk in the park. I was prepared for an afternoon of downloading lumpy software and fiddling with the machine to get it on my LAN. To my pleasant surprise, the network found the printer quickly, with one false start the computer connected, the softare downloaded quickly, and I am back in business. I installed this on a PC running Windows 10 (which was unable to run my 4 year old Pixma). I am a very happy shopper!
no setup software to deal with!
March 10, 2016
Im in IT 10 years currently and i hate printers. This one i love.
printer cost is cheap, ink cost is less per page than the toner equivelant i was going for,
it has a very quiet printing method, and when in its automatic standby it is completely lights out. mine is in my living room.
wifi print from phone no problem no special apps,
no setup software to deal with!

Some trouble with setup, but very happy with this printer
March 1, 2017
Although they provide detailed instructions for connecting to your wireless, I had to try FOUR times before it would connect. I just kept getting a message saying there was an error connecting (with no information about what might have gone wrong or any instructions about what to do). Once I finally got it connected, though, everything else was a breeze and it works very well. I love that it can both do double-sided printing and has a black & white only option.
No cable provided
January 24, 2017
Only took 4+ hours to setup. No cable provided to connect to computer. Instructions could be better, I'd be happier with a booklet instead of 2 18x27 sheets to deal with, but at last all seems to be working and I have 2 devices connected wirelessly and 1 using an old USB/printer cable
Setting up the physical unit was easy; installing software and connecting to wifi took some ...
August 5, 2016
My initial impression of the MG5720 was pretty good! (See below).
However, after printing maybe a dozen pages and a couple of photos, then not printing for a few weeks, I attempted to print and received Support Code 1003 - "There is no paper. Load paper into the cassette...." I've loaded, reloaded, single sheet, a stack, every possible way to load the paper; unplugged, re-plugged, restarted, etc., and I continue to get the error code. So the takeaway is this: Not too bad to set up, very good printing, but unless you want to pay full price for great printing for under 100 pages total and maybe 6 weeks worth of service, avoid this machine!

Here was my initial review:
Setting up the physical unit was easy; installing software and connecting to wifi took some time and did not proceed exactly according to instructions, but I was able to get through it. Note that I am definitely not a tech-savvy person and was somewhat concerned about setting up due to some other reviews, but I managed to do it without calling for any support. To me, that means that it was easy and a huge success. Was able to set up to print from phone as well as desktop. Haven't attempted laptop or iPad. Photo and text printing is clear. Had difficulty figuring out the scan feature, and it is not as straightforward as that of my precious Epson, but I was successful with this upon walking through process with instructions (again, the process was not straightforward and has more steps than my Epson did). Overall, I am enjoying this printer and would recommend it.
Compatible with MacBook Pro
January 27, 2016
Like previous posters wrote, this printer doesn't come with the USB.

I went ahead and ordered one in advance, and find that the printer is pretty user-friendly with it. When I used the printer wirelessly, I found that I had to wait for it to warm up or the printer had to be placed closer to the Internet connection machine. The printer is pretty big and a little bulky, so using it wirelessly was a hassle for me.

Overall, I like it with the use of the USB. Easy and compatible with a Macbook Pro. If you need technical assistance, emailing them gets you a faster response. If you need a good printer and scanner for your Mac, this is a good choice if you're looking for something not too pricey.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS
January 12, 2016
My initial impression of this printer is very favorable. As others have mentioned, get the wireless setup took a bit of trial and error. The software wizard for doing this failed on all counts. Finally got is connected using WPS option found under LAN setting on the printer's home screen. After that, everything went very smoothly. Total time for setup was 60-90 minutes. Of course additional time is needed to become familiar with the various tweaks for using the printer/scanner as I desired. This thing is noisy though and tends to go on quite a bit getting ready to print. But print quality for documents and photos is excellent as is scanning. Overall very pleased so far. Will update comments as experiences dictate.

Doesn't scan to Chromebooks, but does print.
April 27, 2017
I bought this printer specifically for it's Google cloud print capability, and it prints fine from the cloud on my Chromebook. However, it DOES NOT SCAN. This wasn't mentioned in any product description. There is no Canon scan app for Google chrome (which would solve the problem), so I'm forced to take photos of documents with my phone and upload them to Google drive. For the limited scanning I do, that's okay I guess. But there are printer models out there that have scanning to Google drive capability, and I would have bought one of those if I had known. I'm considering returning it for this reason, but not sure if I can. Also, when printing from Google cloud, this thing goes through a ridiculous amount of noise making/adjusting itself before printing anything. Not sure what that's about, but it's annoying. Print quality is good so far, and I can't really comment on ink use yet. I would have given two stars instead of three, but part of my gripe is with Google for making their printing/scanning function so damn difficult. That's not really Canon's fault.
Entry-level printer - three stars, not four or five
October 24, 2016
This is a nice printer for the money. I bought it to replace a Canon MG5320, which died after 4-1/2 years. This printer cost less, though I think these printers are "basically free" because Canon makes the big money on the ink cartridges.

This printer is perfectly adequate. My disappointment is that it is noisier and seemingly "more cheaply made" than the Canon MG5320. Do I recommend this? Yes, because it does the job and was inexpensive. Still, I can't get over the feeling that I really wanted something that seemed a little better quality.

REVISED: One day later, I find this printer to be irritating! It's very loud compared to its predecessor. I am halfway inclined to donate it to someone else, just because of the clunky noises. I will note that the print quality seems to be very good, but you get what you pay for. Nice, inexpensive printer that's too clunky.
Hmmm!!! Could be better out there
August 20, 2016
Printers are really a tough nut to crack. You want a nice looking printer. One that isn't cheap looking. Something that is fast. A company that sells printers where you can purchase generic ink at an inexpensive price. Brand name ink is just to darn expensive. Of all tech products on the market printers are by far the most difficult. I've received class action checks for settlements of printers. I've thrown many away for error messages on the print head. I think I'm up to three. I've given an HP printer away that was super good looking and very fast but the ink was just to expensive. What to do? My last canon lasted four years. Pretty impressive for me. Of course its no longer mfg. I had to so a search all over again. This model received excellent reviews so I went with it. Wasn't sure because the price was so low. I'm still uncertain on this model. The ink usage is fairly poor. I'm hoping the generic cartridges will last longer. Its quite fast. If your deciding between the MG 5620 and MG 5720 take the 5720. I feel its much faster as our household has both. I don't like the cheap feel this model has. The power on button is wobbly. The appearance isn't on par with past printers. I remember printers from canon back to 2003 that were of better quality and functionality than this model. Just couldn't find one that I wanted. Not that they were too expensive. They just weren't out there. Maybe an HP officejet pro that used to print 20-30 pages per minute. Overall, not real impressed with this model. The model is fairly new and hope generic ink prices will go down over time. I can't recommend this one but I would definitely recommend canon and hope you find the canon model that is both fast and inexpensive to operate. I give it 3 stars for being good enough for now.
Awesome for pictures, Not great for everyday printing
July 15, 2016
After consulting several websites I decided to buy this printer/scanner to replace our circa 1995 laser printer. As an everyday printer, this isn't really what we needed. It is slow, noisy (well, not as loud as my mom's comparable HP printer/scanner), and the settings on it are so cumbersomly set up that it is a pain to have to change around how to us less ink on, say, directions or a form for school or whatever.
HOWEVER, we really needed a scanner, and for that it is AWESOME. It is also AWESOME for those times that you have one picture that you want to scan a copy of for your sister but don't want to run out to CVS for. It is also AWESOME for quickly (and, again, more quietly) scanning historical family documents when your folks can't figure out their (again, HP) printer/scanner, you find it slow, and just bring the whole darn box home to do it yourself.

If you are getting this to save space, yes, it does the job well. However, I think we might get another laser printer for everyday printing as it is just so slow for things like that.
Cranky
February 28, 2016
It keeps turning itself off and won't turn on from the computer so I have to get up and turn it back on whenever I want to print something. I've never had a printer before that wouldn't turn on automatically when you press print on the computer. Also can't get remote printing from phone to work even though I downloaded the app. Once you get it to work it does print very well. Haven't tried it on photos yet.

Could be better as I had high hopes for this machine
July 28, 2017
It does print. It does take paper, sometimes. It just depends on the mood. The prints look awesome when I get them. If not, I switch over to my Pro 100. I don't print a lot of general use paper. I use mostly high-end Canon papers Usually Lustre or Semi-gloss, sometimes 4x6 glossy. I can't get the paper tray aligned properly and it complains about that all the time. When it doesn't want to print, I simply turn it off.
Buyer Beware
April 1, 2017
If you DO have all the time in the world and limitless paper products, this printer is for you. If not, Do Not Waste Your Time. This printer takes absolutely forever. The printer is connected to my computer via WiFi and USB and the printer still goes offline. This is VERY, Very frustrating. Wasted business card paper, thank you note card paper. I didn't give it one star bc if it ever produces a complete final product it is awesome. However, this printer is not worth my time or money.

Very loud when printing compared to other inkjets. Difficult to add to wireless (the add wireless wizard instructions were difficult to follow.) But print quality is great and responds quickly when printing from wireless phones and tablets.

After owning it for 6 months I've found the paper jams frequently, or thinks it's out of paper even though it's loaded. Would not recommend this.
Slow and Noisy.
June 29, 2016
Took about 30 minutes to fire it up, including one telephone call to Canon Tech Support (who was fortunately located somewhere on-shore and I did not have to communicate with a heavily accented voice with someone in India or wherever). My only problems were that the initial test pattern did not print in color, and this problem, whatever it was, was quickly dispatched by the very helpful voice (in American English) at the other end of the line and that the Cyan cartridge leaked all over the place for whatever reason. My individual setup had to accommodate both Apple Lion plus Windows XP operating with Parallels software, requiring two installations, both of which installed on-line without any difficulty once the color problem had been resolved.

Now that I have had it for several months, and after having had 4 prior Canon Printers over many years, which I proceeded to wear out through heavy usage, this one is the worst of the crop. It frequently stops printing in the middle of a page and goes through many noisy machinations, it often takes a long time before it will start printing, again going through many of the noisy things and at times, while it is just sitting there, its noisy thing will start up for no good reason that I can figure out. I only wish my last Canon, a great printer, had not worn out and had given up the ghost.
Great printer but CRAZY expensive replacement inks (unless you are a refiller). Would recommend finding something else.
February 29, 2016
I love this printer. Seriously. Took a little bit to get setup, but it works flawlessly - nice clean, crisp print, easy to use for scanning and copying, AirPrint connects well, as do any of my 17 different PC's, tablets, phones, etc. BUT my one wish-I-hadn't-bought-it caveat is that the replacement ink cartridges are soooo expensive. I had bought this after a good run with a MG5320 combo printer - where replacement ink was cheap and plentiful. So I had just assumed (silly me) that ink for this would be equally affordable to buy.

Not so much. To replace all the ink tanks in it, after extensive shopping around, it actually is cheaper for me to BUY A NEW MG5720 with all the ink cartridges in it than buy replacement cartridges. Wow.

Not really looking to get into the refilling business, which requires I turn off the settings on this printer to automatically check ink levels, I'm in a bind. So now actively looking to buy another printer which doesn't get me into a messy corner.

Won't Print Anything
October 5, 2016
It cannot detect paper in its paper tray. I've tinkered with it dozens of times. It refuses to print anything because it always stops itself and says no paper present. It's really frustrating.

I've tried for 2 months to set it up in every way imaginable - via my network, using its CD, etc., every way in its set up manual - it will not work with PC or Mac. They can detect it, but not send jobs to it. The printer, upon being sent a job, wiggles its paper tray then never prints anything, then appears on the network as "idle." When I try to re-download the software again it states "Network Connection Error" when the network is working fine. Their website says this printer currently DOES NOT WORK WITH UP TO DATE MACS USING SIERRA, but it also doesn't work with any PC's in the house, so that's no explanation.

I've never had a problem setting up a printer before - not for my office, not for my home, not Canon or HP. This is just weird.
So LOUD, and poor quality, and poor paper handling. Stay away!!!
September 2, 2016
I had a Canon MG6320 which died after 2 1/2 years. This MG5720 is definitely a step down from my last printer. The paper tray sticks out of the front of the printer despite the tray being too small to hold much paper. The printed paper rest is made of 2 short pieces of plastic that can't even hold a sheet of paper so all papers are bent over and slide onto the floor. The printer is so much louder than my last printer even in quiet mode. The only positive is that it has only 5 ink cartridges rather than 6, so I might save money on ink. I would definitely pass on this printer.
Very poor printer for special needs and color reproduction is poor
June 24, 2016
Of the many things I wanted to use this printer for is per-die-cut cards. This printer is terrible for this! It simply cannot print within a very specific area of a piece of paper. In other words, it pulls in each sheet and begins printing almost randomly. It also cannot NOT print on heavy stock paper. Also, color reproduction of scanned photo is VERY poor. You will be better off spending more money to buy a quality printer!!!
BE PREPARED FOR AN EXERCISE IN PATIENCE!
February 17, 2016
MOST DIFFICULT PRINTER SET-UP I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED. NEEDS CONSTANT ATTENTION. CANON SUPPORT TRIES TO BE HELPFUL, BUT THEY SEEM AS FLUMMOXED AS I AM. WHEN IT DOES PRINT, IT IS AT A SNAIL'S PACE--AND IT DRINKS INK LIKE AN ADDICT. I HAVE LONG UNDERSTOOD THAT PRINTER'S SHOULD BE MORE ACCURATELY CALLED "INK PUMPS," BUT THIS IS RIDICULOUS!
UNABLE TO SCAN FROM NEW MACBOOK
February 7, 2016
I'm quite happy with the delivery and service of the product. The reason to give it a low rating is that while I have no problem printing or scanning over wifi from Android systems and from and older MacBook, with my new Mac Book that runs Yosemite I can print but the Mac does not recognise the scanner. I spent several hours with the Canon telephone support to no avail. I think the problem is that this newer version of iOS does not have the Bonjour software and without that the scanner function is unoperative.
I've given up on trying to fix the issue and I just work around it by scanning docs with the other hardware that I mentioned earlier. Naturally, if this could be fixed it would considerably facilitate my work but I'm not holding my breath.
