CUT THAT ELECTRIC BILL
May 7, 2017
Bought this tape as "just in case" to use with the same brand heavy duty indoor window film I purchased. Turned out I didn't have to use any of it for putting up the film because the tape that came with the film was high quality and sufficient quantity. I ended up using some of this double sided tape for Fall and Christmas decorations.

Great double sided tape for insulating doors and windows with a plastic film kit!

This is the best tape for windows

This is the best tape for windows. Works well. I'd use a hair dryer to warm up the areas you'd be put first, then again after you apply the tape before applying the shrink films. It seems to hold up better over time.

Works as advertised..

This product works as advertised and has been perfect for everything I have needed it for. I have used other Duck Brand products and all have been high quality well made items. I have tried other brands that are hard to use and just don't hold that well so when I saw this I gave it a chance and it works..The double sided tape holds strong and stays where you put it. It's easy to work with and I have had no issues at all...

I'm in Florida so we have heat and mold to contend with. I bought these to go around the windows on the second floor that have small a/c window units.Having double hung sashes, I have to worry about wasps, roaches, etc getting in even though I have weather stripping in the gaps. This kept the bugs out, the cool in and can be changed in about 10 minutes twice a year. It will last a lot longer. I have to wash the windows and get any mold growth before it becomes a monster, that's why I change it twice a year.
great product

I usually use the other brand, the one that starts with 3... well for some reason I could find no stock anywhere in town for the large patio door size anywhere in the big box stores or the the smaller local hardware stores. It was December and the cold weather had already hit. I needed to put some plastic on my 4 large picture windows in my living room. I ordered 2 boxes of this brand and got it in 2 days with Prime shipping. I waited for a calm day. The instructions said to not install in less than 50 degree weather. It was about 40 today but calm. I always install this plastic outside. I used the hair dryer to quickly warm up the wood casing around the windows, and then quickly put on the double faced tape. I heated up the tape on the frames a bit and used a plastic edge to further push the tape to the frame. I then put up the plastic and pressed it onto the tape after pulling of the tape backing paper. I then used the hair dryer to take out all of the wrinkles. In about an hour I was done and the windows look impressive. I know the inside drafts from these large 30 year old panes of glass ( I know the seals are broken between the inner and outer panes and the windows get cold in the winter and sweat) , well the drafts will be greatly lessened as I have learned from doing this in the past. The Duck brand was cheaper then the other national brand and the tape and plastic worked just as well. Crystal clear and tight. I will be buying more of these and putting them away until next winter when I install the plastic again. I know from experience that some of the paint around the window frames will peel up with the tape, I expect that. When I take it down in the spring I just do some touch up with a small brush and some paint.
The double sided tape is super easy to stick on
January 3, 2016
I purchased this last winter and never got around to using it. I just sealed up the window in my son's room last week to keep the horde of invading Asian lady beetles from sneaking in the cracks around it. I did the 'installation' alone, and probably would have had an easier time of it with a 2nd pair of hands. The double sided tape is super easy to stick on. Basically you can just roll it right onto the window frame, and has a nice lining over the outside of it that you simply pull off when you're ready to stick the plastic film on. The plastic was easy to manhandle while measuring and cutting it, it comes folded in a roll so you can just unfold it to the right size and cut down the line. The tricky part came when trying to hold it up and stick it on the tape. It was almost like trying to wrestle a several foot square sheet of thick Saran Wrap on your window without it sticking in the wrong place haha. I was doing fine until the heater kicked on and the wind from the nearby vent blew it while I was attaching it along the top... and made one of the sides stick to the tape where it shouldn't have. I had to rip the plastic to unstick it. This was nothing some clear tape couldn't fix without sacrificing the whole sheet of film.My misadventures aside, the product is great and as long as your heater doesn't sabotage you, or you get a 2nd set of hands to hold it up while you're positioning it, it's very easy to use. The evil fake-ladybugs are officially blocked.. until they find another hole to crawl through.
Helping keep my house warmer this winter
January 22, 2015
I was skeptical, but this plastic really does seem to keep our home warmer during the winter (to give you an idea, it was -14 degrees outside here one night last week). I was able to put it up myself, although it is much easier with a second person on large windows. It really does shrink up and become clear when you blow on it with a hair drier. Be careful to not hold the hair drier in one place too long or fought the drier to the plastic or you can melt a hole in it. The tape has held up for 3 months already with no issues.I was concerned about using this on windows with blinds, but after seeing a tutorial on the This Old House's website I was able to get my blinds working while having the plastic up. You use a small amount of packing tape and sharp scissors or a razor blade to make a small hole and then pull the cord through. I don't think the small hole has reduced effectiveness. Plus, if you also have curtains, they will probably cover the area with the tony hole anyway.I recommend also using curtains so added heat efficiency. The added bonus of curtains, even when they are open, is that they hide the edges of the window where the tape secures the plastic so your guests might not even realize you have plasticized your windows.
CRYSTAL CLEAR IS RIGHT
November 7, 2014
For those of you who are in doubt of their own capacity and ability to properly install this like I was, DO NOT FEAR.I have never installed something like this before, and mind you, I am not the handy-wo/man kind of person either. But I had absolutely no issue installing this whatsoever, and as they promised, it is Cyrstal-clear indeed. When I actually taped the plastic film to the tapes, I was sure that I have ruined it for sure, and that I will have to restart the whole thing: I had sections that slightly overlapped, creating a fold. The way I attached the plastic was visibly and obviously a little skewed to one side.BUT, THESE SHRINK LIKE NOBODY'S BUSINESS. I wasn't sure if the shrinkage would solve the problem, but it sure did after about 15 minutes of blowdrying.Blow Drying Tip: when blowdrying, rather than blowing at the wrinkled area directly, sway the blow dryer gently around the wrinkle itself and the wrinkle will come out much faster.I've attached a photo of the finished product. You can't really see that there's a film except for the ghostly reflection on the film itself. You can kind of see the ruffled edges, for I just roughly trimmed the extras off with a scissor after I was done.Plastic Film Cutting Tip: have plenty of extra space. If you're anything like me, you will most likely end up with a bit slanted film application, and the extra allowance will make sure you're not left with a gap. For me, I first adjusted one entire film by the long length first, and didn't really trim the sides. I applied the top first, then the sides, then the bottom, THEN I cut any extra on the bottom.Seriously, I do not know what this plastic film is made of, but they shrink like nobody's business and I have to say I'm almost in disbelief of how crystal clear it turned out to be.Feel free to read the rest of my reviews on Amazon: I rarely write reviews here, but when I do, it's because I had a bit of doubt myself when purchasing it, but turned out to exceed my wildest imaginations.

Am a 66 year-old male, live by myself, am not strong and am in poor health. Not fussing, just letting you know if I could do it, anyone can.Have a 40 year old mobile home, no insulation top (roof), bottom, or side walls. It has single pane windows, and they are very cold and drafty in the winter.Have purchased from Amazon many times, and have never had a fuss with them. Low prices, prompt shipping, and good product descriptions. In over ten years, have only had to return one item, and it was not an issue at all for Amazon. Yes, I pay for Prime shipping. No regrets at all.Have ten windows in the home, so got two Duck 1299529 window shrink film kits, and a low cost Jerdon 1600 watt blow drier. (hair)It took a pair of scissors, and the kits. Only took maybe 15-20 minutes per window (after the first one!), and three of them were 5X6 foot. Wiped the dust off the trim with a damp paper towel per window, dried, then used one of the four faces on each alcohol wipe for each side of the window trim.Lift an inch or so of the tape off the roll, grab one end, and pull on one side until you hear/feel a soft pop, then the other side the same way. The pull the half inch of the tape until it pulls off. The double sided tape will be easy to separate now. Peel back the protective cover an inch or two, cut the half inch off of the messed up tape with your scissors, and and fold the cover crease) to one side ninety degrees. You can roll it out, press it down carefully, and leave the cover on until you apply the film. Cut the end at the end of the side (or top), and do the same for the other three. It will take just a couple of times, and you will know you're a "pro"!Leave at least two or three inches of extra film on each side. I did the top first, then a side, then the other side, then the bottom. With the 1600 watt drier, I installed the diffuser, and learned to hold it gently against the film (high setting). Move it back and forth, and have good light on it, and it will tighten up almost magically! Was really worried about melting the film, but had no trouble with that at all.Trimmed the surplus film on the edges afterward.A very good product, inexpensive, well described, and it is very effective. Cuts the drafts and heat losses like magic.Yes, I put off doing this for years; just wasn't sure I could do it.Thanks, Duck!

Essentially this made applying the tape to the window really difficult and rendered the rest of the roll useless.
December 30, 2016
The tape itself is really sticky and serves it's purpose well. My point of contention is that 3/4th of the way through the roll of tape, the manufacturing got messed up and the sticky part of the tape was exposed while the backing was underneath. Essentially this made applying the tape to the window really difficult and rendered the rest of the roll useless.

So I realize that I waited an extremely long time to write my review but I wanted to see how easily this product could be removed from the woodwork around my windows. This was not an easy task because when I was pulling it off it took the paint right off of my woodwork. It did a super job keeping the plastic in place all season long but next year I will have to come up with a different way of removing so it lets go easier. With this I guess you get the good with the bad just like everything else.

The extra rolls are smaller than the 1's that come in the kit so you might want to consider 2 rolls if you are doing many windows.

Kept the house at least 15 degrees warmer.
March 12, 2017
Works very well. There's really no need to use the hair dryer. The surface must be cleaned well for the adhesive tape. The broken window in the backroom had wind coming through it and now the house is warm. After about 2-3 months just the bottom on the sill became untaped. I imagine some duct tape or other kind of tape can help reinforce it for the rest of winter. There is really JUST ENOUGH plastic to do the windows if you want to do all 10 (standard windows). If you have a person with you, the job is very easy to do and can be done in minutes.
Don't believe the tape complaints - works fine
March 1, 2017
I have taped my windows and it helped a little. But the plastic is very thin, and I couldn't get a hair dryer hot enough to actually shrink the plastic as suggested in the instructions. Could be that it's too cold in Northern Michigan, or it could be a flaw in the plastic. Not really sure.Still, it cut down on drafts. And we used the double-stick tape and haven't had any problems others reported with it not sticking - it worked fine. The plastic will blow up like a balloon when the wind is 40 mph outside, but the tape holds.
preserve the window functionality too
January 29, 2017
I chose duck over other brands just because my apartment window size is 3' x 8' and none of the over brands fit the bill. Duck came with 2 big sheets and just with 1 sheet I could comfortably handle two such windows. The only option after reading the reviews and the product instructions is to cover the whole window (including the shades and the controller). But to preserve the functionality of the window, I had to get creative and apply the screen behind the shades. There is a gap between the glass and the unit that holds the shades that I have exploited. Hope that the attached picture explains the details. Now I have to keep an eye on the next month's bill.
Need touch-ups after storms.

These things are a huge pain in the ass to put up, and I recommend two people if you have larger windows, but it definitely saved us money. We used them in an older building where the local government would freak if we would replace them but they made heating a huge hassle in the meantime. These saved us a ton on heating costs, though they occasionally needed a little touch up, especially if strong winds that made it through cracks knocked them loose. Other than that, they worked great, came off mostly clean, and overall are worth the hassle.
BUy IT And Stay Warm
February 3, 2013
I used to sell these types of kits when I worked in retail. There were always issues when customers didn't follow instructions. For the price you will not find a more economical way to weatherproof the windows in your house or apartment. The Duck Brand is, in my opinion, a winner in the do-it-yourself window insulation industry. Just keep in mind that you have options when using a kit like this. One option is to double the plastic when installing it. According to how cold it is in your area, one layer may be okay but I find that for the price two is better. The product is very durable and resists holes being poked in it like the type you can make with your finger. It is crystal clear so you can see outside even with two layers. The other option is that although you can use a blow dryer on this product to shrink it to an airtight fit you can also just install it and not heat the surface and use it just to cut the draft in the room. Make sure that around the window frame is clean, use the double stick tape around the frame, roll out the plastic and put it up against the frame from left to right then cut with scissors and unroll the length and apply. It was so easy and you save money. Buy this item and stay warm.
Unbelievable difference!
January 3, 2013
We just finished the install moments ago and already we notice a difference! We have a single pane 120x80 window across the front of our living room; it has a slider window on either end and a picture window in the middle. We usually spend the winter under blankets, but this year I went in search of a better option. I am not disappointed! The install, for us at least, was a two person job. Since it was about 60* in the house, I preheated the wood frame prior to placing the tape. We grounded one end to the window frame, rolled out a foot or so and then pressed it down. We repeated this for the top and sides of the window but left the bottom without tape, lest we get it dusty before we were ready for it.Now for the slightly challenging install of the film. We unfolded the 120 length of film and confirmed that it was he correct length...or so we thought! Perhaps the most challenging aspect of this installation is the correct placement of the first piece of the film. If you make sure that you have equal length side to side, you should be ok. Ours seemed to be cut at an angle, so by the time we to to our last corner, we were short by an inch and had to lift it and reposition it. Once we were satisfied with the top and sides, we placed the tape to the bottom frame, which created the full seal. It would have been helpful if we had left a few inches of film untapped on the sides, which would have given us greater ease of tape placement on the bottom.Once the film was in place, we began the shrinking process. A word of caution: DO NOT GET THE HAIR DRYER TOO CLOSE TO THE FILM! It will melt and will render the film useless. I used my 1800w hair dryer on high heat and high fan, approximately 6" from the film. I started in the middle and let the heat take out some of the slack I moved to top corners and then down. In all, the shrinking process took about 20 minutes. Over that time, I got a little tired and moved in to about 4" from the film. You can see the heat chasing the wrinkles out of the film and it gets to be fun to see I stretch to a drum tightness. Now if you're like me, tight is good, tighter is better! Not the case here. Leave lust a little slack in the film (and I really do mean a little), it should be tight like plastic wrap over a bowl, not as tight as a snare drum. Because others have mentioned faulty tape, it could be that they tried to shrink it too much and created too tight of a seal which would pull the tape from the foundation. As a precaution, I placed some clear duct tape around the areas I thought would be most likely to pull. It was an inexpensive insurance policy that I wouldn't have to do this again. We live in a 1940's ranch, just off of the San Francisco bay. While it never gets too cold, it can get breezy and that's fatal for a single pane picture window. We felt about an 8 degree difference right away. I recommend this product strongly! Hopefully I'll feel the same way next week - with no pullage!

The tap drove me crazy!!
March 15, 2017
Two way tape was not easy to use. Could be user error but I found it frustrating. Also it comes in huge sheets which makes cutting and measuring timely. I guess that's just the way it goes though. I'd rather pay the heating bill - lol!
Fine enough, but a little tricky to use.
December 19, 2016
I have not noticed a huge difference with this shrink film on terms of keeping my house warmer during the winter. I think it's a fair buy for the price and I'm sure it's helped, I just haven't noticed it.My issue was it's so easy to rip after you cut it into sections and hard to see while cutting so it was easy to get uneven. I measured the window and while I was cutting my first section I noticed I kept getting it crooked. I cut wrapping paper all the time so I thought this would be easy, but it was harder than I thought. The first two pieces I cut were unusable because they were so uneven. I ended putting it up the film before cutting and then cut the stuff around it. I did waste some this way and only ended up covering 6 windows, but it was so much easier.True to it's word it just takes a little heat from a hair dryer to shrink it in and I looks very nice.

March 10, 2016
I live in a very old NYC apartment and the windows are just glass, they do not have any insulation properties whatsoever. Also, the wall of the apartment have been painted a million times. The sealing tape that came with this kit did not stick to my wall, and it was crazy frustrating. I ended up having the tape the plastic film over my windows using blue painters tape, which was the only tape that would stick to the walls.I was not able to seal the film properly because the tape wouldn't stick to the wall. I would not have thought the tape wouldn't stick when i was buying this product, which is why i am leaving a review. The film did seam to help keep the apartment warm even tho it wasn't sealed to the windows.
Tape doesn't stick
January 6, 2016
Everything is perfect with the shrink wrap. There is enough material to cover my window, and it's very easy to cut and shaped to cover the window. However, the double sided tape provided in this box does not stay at all. During the course of the week I've seen slack in the plastic from where the double sided tape has failed to stick. So I've been adding other pieces of duct tape or packing tape to keep it back down while reapplying heat to the plastic sheet to tighten it up again. So if you're okay with using another kind of double sided tape and making sure that you don't peel off the paint off your wall when removing the plastic, then I'd recommend this product. Other than that, expect to be trying to tape it back up periodically during the winter.
Doubtful This Could Do 10 Window's Worth
December 23, 2015
I don't know how this could possibly be enough material for 10 windows. Either that, or I am seriously bad at the art of window sealing! Especially because it says on the box to leave two inches around the edge to ensure when you use the hair dryer it will turn out properly. On two of the windows I completed, they ended up with holes. I don't know why-I followed all the instructions, and I've done the window shrinking before. I just put packing tape over these smaller holes.Overall, not that impressed by the kit as I feel it's overselling it's material worth stating it's for 10 windows.
Good plastic, ok tape, not enough tape for three windows.
November 26, 2013
You know what this stuff is. It's a pain in the @$$ to put up, no matter what the brand. I've tried the Frost King brand, and for my money, this plastic is better. It's got less wrinkles out of the box, and "shrinks" a bit more under the hair dryer. The tape, however, isn't as good as the Frost King brand, which is a bit shocking from 3M, who are known for their adhesives technology. In the end, the product works well, and is large enough to cover the 6 foot high, original plate-glass windows in the old Victorian house that I rent. There's enough plastic to cover three windows (80" high x 40" wide windows), but only enough tape for two whole windows and the top strip of another. If you are buying this for large windows, you'll need to also buy more tape. So, for 6 big old victorian windows, you'd need two of these packages, and an extra role of tape.

Tape is not quality I am used to from other brand
February 14, 2017
I usually buy this locally every year but living in Southern CA most venders do not carry it so it's become more problematic to find so I thought I would just buy it here to make it simple. Well this is a different brand than I usually buy and I cannot say I will be buying it again. I cover 8 windows usually, this year I only did 6 as its ben warmer than usual. Out of the 8 windows I do every year maybe 1 will fail and come loose during the season. This brand I have had 4 of the windows fail and the sides come unglued (or untaped) and needed to be redone. No I will not use again next year.

March 16, 2016
This film was such a hassle to get over my windows. It kept sticking to itself and ripping. The directions say to put the double stick tape down and then remove the top layer of the double stick tape (to make it sticky) before pressing the film down, but then the film would stick to the tape as I was pressing other parts of the film down and tear. I found it better to slowly remove the top part of the tape as I went along pressing down the film. In the end my cat punctured a hole in it, so it was all for naught.
Perfectly smooth surfaces only...
September 5, 2015
I live in an older building with leaky windows, so some serious weatherproofing was needed. I thought this kit would work, but even after cleaning all the contact spots with alcohol, that double-sided tape does not stick worth two cents. I guess I can use the plastic as shrink wrap for anything I need to keep protected, because I sure can't use it for window sealing. If you have perfectly smooth surfaces on which to stick this tape, it might work. Maybe. Two hours fighting with this trying to get tape to stick without pulling off as soon as I attach plastic.
To shrink or not to shrink?
September 25, 2014
Arrived quickly, everything was as described and new in box. The only complaint I have with this Window Kit is the shrink stage with the hair dryer. The plastic didn't shrink... I put it on fairly tight but wanted to shrink it to clear as the box says but it wouldn't. Just left little wrinkles. I even turned the hair dryer on high to see if it needed more heat but still nothing. I think I'm going back to 3M!
It only lasted 2 weeks before the tape started to peel off
December 24, 2013
Installation was easy and straightforward. However, if your window faces the sun you may want to go easy on the hair drier or skip it altogether. Here is why: the plastic wrap will shrink when it's warm and if you tape it too close to the window seam/opening it will rip the tape right off when it shrink and expands. Also, if you hold the drier too close to the film it will burn through it.

I put this over the window in the bathroom because it is super drafty in there, and as soon as someone took a shower it fell down. I’ve been re-taping it back up and it falls constantly. It does make a difference with keeping the room warmer when I can get it to stay on there.

I purchased two kits, followed instructions and have used similar products in the past. The plastic required more heat than a hairdryer. I finished using a heat gun on low. We woke up to a tragic discovery. The tape failed and all of the windows had plastic hanging off them. We spent a long time on this project. I am going back to 3M. The only reason I purchased Duck was because it was an Amazon recommended product. If you do purchase, make sure to get extra tape. What comes in the box is not enough.
can never make it look as good as ads show it
June 19, 2017
It ripped pain off the window moldings, ruined 4 windows I used it on. Did not expect this much damage. I tried gentle removing, holding down and slow, nothing helps. And our paint is relatively new - several years old. It looked all wrinkled on the window, can never make it look as good as ads show it. Last, but probably even more important, I did not register much savings over winter, even when making corrections for different outside temperature and all. It might have been a a small $ amount saving. Nothing compared to the cost of repainting the windows.
I rarely write poor reviews, but this is in need of one

I rarely write poor reviews, but this is in need of one. I had set up 5 windows and was heating the plastic to shrink it when i noticed a line throughout the plastic on all windows. This was obviously a default in the the product which left holes throughout the coverings. The tape that comes with the window kit also does not stick very well. I would recommend choosing a different product, it will save you time and money.
Doesn't work. Try bubble wrap instead!

I followed the installation instructions down to the letter, and this stuff would not stick on the window. I altered the instructions a bit, and it still would not stick. I tried multiple windows, tried varying the temp on my hairdryer, tried everything I could think of, and still nothing made it stick. What I have since found that works far better is to use bubble wrap (ie, the kind with the large bubbles). Just wipe your window with a damp paper towel and the bubble wrap will stick to your window easily. I did this about two months ago and the bubble wrap is still holding. Sure, it obscures the view a bit - but at least it works! It's probably no panacea but I can feel a difference. My central heater seems to cut itself off a bit more often now - it doesn't have to run nonstop anymore.
Waste of money

Absolutely worthless. Did not block heat loss. This may stop airflow but convection and radiation are still an issue for heat loss. Windows already have low r value but I was led to believe his window cling would improve insulation. However, this was far from the truth as a temp gun was able to verify that here was no difference in heat loss after installation.
