Great extender
February 10, 2017
I found this to work great! It was needed in my home and now I have great wi-fi reception where before I did not. I got it initially to boost my RING doorbell, which it has but also doubled my wi-fi range throughout my home (even in closets! not that I need it there but still). It was easy to set up because my router had the correct button to sync them. When selecting a place to plug it in, you really need to put it where your signal is weaker to be effective. It will let you know if you plugged it in too close to your router, or in a high signal area. Just make sure your router has the WP button. A firend of mine picked this up and his router did not have it and set up did not pan out for him even with the cables, etc.
Works for me
March 2, 2016
Ok, so my internet service is thru Verizon and I was fully prepared to have to do the more complicated set up, but for whatever reason (not a techie here so I don't really know), the WPS set up work but perfectly for me and I had this baby up and running in just a couple of minutes after unboxing. We needed this for a wifi dead zone towards the back of the house. We have an IP Camera that we originally had set up in the front room of our house to keep an eye on our dog; but as time and circumstance eventually revealed, keeping him contained in the back half of our property worked out better. Unfortunately, our wifi is very sketchy in the exact location where the camera needed to be. This took care of that issue and the bonus is that streaming on our TV in that room also improved. I'm not sure if I just got lucky since I had read other reviews swinging in both ends of the spectrum.
Dead Zones Dead and Gone!
December 4, 2015
Extremely happy so far with this product. I was a little wary of how tedious the set-up was going to take me from what I gathered from other reviews, but I completed it in less than a minute and I only had to press 2 buttons! Granted there might be some extra compatibility as my WiFi router is also of TP-LINK brand (N600 WDR3500).My family and I have been afflicted with a dead zone 50/55 ft away from where the router itself is placed on the second flood and the dead zone is down on the first level. I didn't even think the extender could connect that far with my original connection, but I now have full coverage of the first floor and am a very, very happy camper. The number one problem that the range extender has solved is range and not strength of my wifi signal. Thanks for reading!Cheers,Dan
This Made Our WiFi dead Zone Come Alive!
November 27, 2015
TP-LINK N300 Wi-Fi Range Extender (TL-WA850RE)Our house had a dead spot in the bedroom. For our ARRIS SURFboard eXTREME cable modem wireless router, the signal has to go through four walls and a large stainless steel double wide refrigerator. Well, it doesn't quite cut it. I can't move the router because I didn't want to drill another hole in the dining room where the midway in our house would be. So, the only other alternatives are to purchase a MoCA device and send it through the coax for cable, install a PoE wireless access point or get a wireless repeater.I looked for an inexpensive alternative and read reviews. After an afternoon of researching what's available on Amazon I came to the conclusion that this was the best deal. After receiving the package and opening it up, I followed directions for connecting it via WPS which is a simple push button method. For some reason, that ARRIS wireless router has trouble connecting via WPS. I had problems with it after I installed it connecting to our wireless printer. It took a few tries but that finally connected. Not so with this TP-LINK extender. It would not connect. So, I got out the Quick installation guide, followed the instructions for connecting to it via the web browser and had it up and running in 2 minutes. Simple instructions worked like a charm.Next, I took the repeater and placed it, per instructions, in the center of the dead spot and where I was still receiving a decent signal. I went into our bedroom and was able to connect to our wireless with a decent signal. It's not a fantastic signal but it's good enough for Facebook and surfing the net which is what my wife does on her iPhone and iPad as she lays down for bed. This was a $20 solution vs. a $90 MoCA device or a $75 PoE Access point (which would involve running a cat-5 cable clear across the house drilling more holes.I gave it 5 stars because it was easy to install and does an adequate job for what we wanted wireless access in a spot where we had none.I have included some photos and simple instructions. The first photo is of what comes in the package. There is the repeater and a short cat5 network cable. The second photo is of the repeater in operation. The third picture is of what the LEDs indicate on the repeater. The fourth picture is of the side profile of the repeater in use. (It's plugged into my PowerXcell USB charging station.)The fifth picture is of the first step of the Quick Installation Guide for installing the repeater via web browser. I installed this unit using an iPad through the Safari browser. I chose the wireless connection network of TP-LINK EXTENDER to connect to under my WiFi settings selection.I opened my browser and typed http://tplinkrepeater.netYou will be asked to login. The User Name and User Password are "admin". Click "Login".Next you are asked for a new user name and new password to replace the user name and password "admin". Choose a new user name new password and click "Confirm".(See photo six)Next you are asked to select a region. If you reside in the US just click "Next" because it is shipped without an option to change this. If you are not in the US, you will have to select your region then click "Next".(See photo six)Select your wireless network name then type in your password for your wireless router. This repeater will only connect to a 2.4GHz network.(See photo six)On the next screen select "Copy Host SSID" then click on next.(See photo seven)Verify your network settings then click finish.(See photo seven)Your repeater will reset and then the various LEDs will light to indicate it's status. Just like your wireless router, it will start with the "Power" LED lights then the "Wireless" LED will light indicating it is sending a wireless signal out, followed by the "Ethernet" LED indicating it is able to send out a signal with the 5 signal strength indicator LEDs indicating it's strength.(See photo eight)Next, relocate the repeater. Choose a spot halfway between the router and the dead spot that you are trying to get your wifi signal to. Wait until the repeater's signal strength LEDs are lit. If you have three or more lit, you have placed it in a good location. If you have less than three, relocate it closer to the wireless router.(See photo nine)Once you have located the repeater in the good zone, test to be sure your dead zone now receives wireless network capability. Here is hoping you do.
Handy extender with status lights for easy placement
September 21, 2015
I had never used TP-Link equipment before so I wasn't sure what to expect. I ordered this because of the good reviews and the fact that it does not block an outlet, which is a great feature. I ended up being impressed with this extender. The quality is good, the status lights let you know where to place it and the set up was easy enough. There was no WPS button on the router so I had to do extra steps which did not work at first. Once I actually followed the directions the extender was up and running in no time. I tried a few locations and found one that extends the wireless network to an acceptable distance. This is for my in-laws' house which has plaster walls. Even with a powerful router the signal drops significantly over short distances. I was able to place this in a spot that results in a much better signal for the kitchen, living room and patio. I was hoping for more distance outside but I probably need a second extender or to run an ethernet line to the garage.
Awesome!
October 27, 2013
I needed this to get a better signal in the upstairs master bedroom. Had no idea what I was doing. Read all the reviews and finally decided to give this one a try. There's a really easy connection option. Just plug it in and press a button on your router and presto, its done. My router didn't have that button. The next option looked really complicated. I despaired but figured, what the heck. Followed the step by step directions easily and up it went! Nothing to it. Moved the repeater upstairs to the hallway, which is quite a distance from my router, and had a full strength wifi connection for the bedroom! It was easy and the price was certainly good. If you're thinking about this one, I'd give it a try.

Solved My Dilemma In minutes
July 29, 2017
As I work from home, I wanted to use my laptop on my deck to enjoy some of nice summer days but I kept losing my internet connection. It was becoming too hard to get anything accomplished until I purchased this NETGEAR AC750 WiFi Range Extender with Gigabit. There were three major things I solved:1. QUICK ARRIVAL OF THE PRODUCT. Times flying and I wanted to get quality internet connection as soon as possible. The product arrived in 2 days via Prime2. EASY SET UP FOR A NOVICE. I am not technology savvy yet I had this extender set up in less than 10 minutes. It helped that I had read prior reviews so I knew what to look for.3. WORKS EXACTLY AS DESCRIBED. I immediately went to my dead spot on the deck and began surfing the web. Downloaded a few items and no buffering or dead connection.I have had the product for a few weeks and not single issue. I can be out 50-75 feet in my yard, still strong signal. This product was well worth my money and I would purchase again in a heartbeat.
this one worked and has been working great. All of these extenders have an easy set ...
January 17, 2016
This extender was my third shot at an extender (the first two being two Amped Wireless models) and finally, thankfully, this one worked and has been working great. All of these extenders have an easy set up and this is no different. Plug in, set up and go. As always, you need to find the sweet spot location for these, but once you do, set it and forget it. I have not needed to reboot or unplug this router over the past 3 months. The Amped models needed power cycling twice a week. We use our wireless to stream 1080p compressed x264 video to a multitude of devices and this extender gets it done for all of them with a hiccup or two over the course of a two hour movie. It also handles simultaneous connections well - I was impressed to see the extender serve 3 of the said 1080p streams to three devices with no major hang ups. Would highly recommend.
OMG it works great!!! Live HDTV streaming with no buffering!
December 8, 2015
Just received this yesterday and....it is amazing! Short story - it solved my HDTV streaming issues without more than 10 minutes of effort! I wanted to stream TV via a Tivo Mini in my office that does not have ethernet or coax. There is no attic access and the basement is finished so running cable was going to be a total PITA. I tried a powerline adapter from TP Link and while it worked for basic connectivity, streaming was not an option - buffering, drops - bad, really bad. Enter the Netgear AC1200 - a last attempt before tearing up some walls. To be honest I never considered wifi bridges or extenders because my experience in the past was sub-optimal to be kind. The setup was easy, took only a few minutes via the very intuitive ad-hoc AP it establishes. Once configured to extend the 5Ghz spectrum of my Apple Airport Extreme I plugged in my Tivo Mini and....WOW! Perfect, high quality, no buffer HDTV streaming of live TV! What a great device - no need to run cable!
A must have for those areas of compromised coverage!
December 8, 2015
Update: 8 mos later and the AC1200 continues to impress... this is an awesome extender, folks! Have not experienced one negative issue that would be grounds to regret this purchase.Thought it was best to use this device for a few weeks before tendering my review.I am very pleased with this extender. I am not an IT professional, which means anyone can install this device. Plugged it in, turned it on, and the browser walked me through a complete and secure install in three minutes. We now have impressive coverage in that area of our home where wireless coverage (or lack thereof) was an on-going issue. Exceeding 100 MBps download speed with this extender.I bought two of these extenders to maximize range and could not be more impressed with my extended coverage.
Best solution for extending WiFi - read this review to understand why
July 5, 2015
As I said in one of my previous reviews, buying technical products based on Amazon ratings can be pretty frustrating. NETGEAR EX6100 AC750 is a great example of why that is. Most of the complaints that you'll find in 1 star reviews are based on misunderstanding on how this type of product works. If you'll use this piece of hardware to extend your WiFi coverage - expect 50% less bandwidth when you connect to it since it uses that 50% to communicate with router. If you need 100% speed, you do have alternatives:1. This devices supports Access Point mode. Simply move slider from Extender to Access Point, connect LAN cable to this device and then use same SSID and password for WiFi.2. If you don't want to spend time laying LAN cable, you can use one band (2.4 GHz) to communicate with router and other one (5 GHz) to communicate with devices. This can be problematic because most of the devices support only 2.4 GHz... and 5 GHz band signal will tie you closer to router.3. Finally, you can try with other devices like TP-LINK AV500 that utilize powerline:http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AWRUICG/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B00AWRUICG&linkCode=as2&tag=codeproject-20&linkId=5LNJ5PAFCLAMLAIGIn my case, this product was the best option because even with 50% dropdown in communication I get 15 MBit/s Internet (instead of 30 MBit/s Internet). And when I have time to spare I'll connect it with LAN cable. On the other hand, TP-LINK AV500 would require me to connect WiFi router / buy WiFi add-on at endpoint (since it is powerline + LAN).So, if you have problems with WiFi coverage, this is probably the BEST solution for you. If you need to connect just one device using LAN cable in some remote place in your home, powerline may work (it depends on how your power lines are installed, I had really bad experience with powerline tech).Just whatever you do, do not buy extra antennas for your router. I've left two detailed reviews on products that I've tried out and their price ($20+) is way too much for what they offer. Here are the reviews I mention, they contain more recommendations on EX6100:Asus WL-ANT-157 Antenna:http://www.amazon.com/gp/customer-reviews/R17FRD2FTCRJIB/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B005UBNJ48&camp=1789&creative=390957&linkCode=ur2&tag=codeproject-20&linkId=DGRPI7ZB4KW6LULE3 x 9dBi 2.4GHz 5GHz Dual Band WiFi RP-SMA Antenna:http://www.amazon.com/gp/customer-reviews/R1R1FM9PYRM8VM/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8linkCode=ur2&tag=codeproject-20&linkId=TUFLTMG2TA7W7DYR&ASIN=B00DMJI9TA&camp=1789&creative=390957&Speaking of price, another VERY important point - buy REFURBISHED EX6100 (~$40). Devices like this are highly unlikely to malfunction - because of low heat generation and no mechanical parts. If they work within 90 days (refurbished guarantee period)... it's highly likely they'll work for years without problems.Let that be it for this review. If you have any questions, feel free to leave comment and I'll try to answer. For example, I see few reviews mention that EX6100 doesn't allow you to setup same SSID/password as your primary network, and have your devices autoswitch. That's simply untrue - you can easily setup same SSID/password in EX6100 administration. Finally, if this review helped you, I would appreciate marking it as helpful. Whatever you decide, good luck with your WiFi network!
Works Great!
February 17, 2012
I bought this after having a bad experience with the Amped line of extenders. This repeater was a breeze to setup, even the advanced functions. There wasn't a need to take a computer and reconfigure it to do the initial setup, right out of the box all I had to do was connect my laptop to it's temporary wifi ssd and reconfigure it from there using a simple step by step setup. I really like the fast lane technology where you can have it communicate on one band to your router and one band to your devices. Doing this increased my repeat speed by 300%. I live in an apartment building and can see over 20 wifi networks from my normal operating area, using the fast lane setup where I use 2.4Ghz to connect to my router and then 5.Ghz to connect to my devices works best as the farther out you take your devices in a 2.4Ghz wifi cluster environment, the more interference you have. One thing people should realize in that the signal is being repeated. . .don't expect to get the same speed as connecting directly to your router. When connected to my router I get aprox. 60-95MBs throughput, when it is being repeated on this product I am getting at max 30MBs using fastlane which is much better than other repeaters I've used. Also the 2.4Ghz will generally get about 15-20% better range but the 5Ghz works much better in wifi dense areas.

Works for me pretty well.
December 12, 2016
I have read mixed reviews and was a bit worried. Setup was easy (though I did have to do the WPS pairing by logging on to the router and hitting the Pair button on it (Comcast - Arris)). Then it paired and since then I have not had to restart it (it's been a couple of weeks. My router is in the bedroom and a couple of laptops and phones are about 30 yards away in the living room past the kitchen. All the metal in the kitchen gave me a weak signal and watching any videos was sketchy at best. This think has increased my throughput to about the same speed as in the bedroom by the router (speedtest.net) I was getting about 10% of the speed before. The only thing that I still have problems with is streaming from the Comcast site. It does stop to buffer sometimes. Other online streaming has not had that problem. All in all it is a great help for me so I am happy. I pugged the unit in the wall past the kitchen (from the router).
Great solution to weak internet signal throughout the house and outside too.
April 20, 2016
This works pretty good. I used it for my outside mounted Arlo cameras. The base station was in the house and the signal was very weak on each camera. I connected the tp link and my problem has been solved. Setup was a breeze. It uses your current wifi name so that you do not have to get on a computer to configure extra settings. I plugged the range extender into an outlet in my unattached garage and it still picked up a good signal from my inside router.I only gave it 4 stars because the size of the unit is a bit cumbersome and the ethernet port is on the bottom. Therefore it takes up an entire outlet if using the ethernet connection. Maybe they could have mounted the ethernet port on the side???
i'm glad i got it
April 12, 2016
Was a breeze to set up. The WPS setup didn't work for me, but the instructions for doing it manually were concise and well written, and after only a couple minor frustrations I had it fired up and working like it was intended. I don't know what the walls in my house are made out of, but apparently it's lead because I don't get much penetration from the middle of the house, where the router is, to the edges, where the bedrooms are. I put this out in the hallway and now there are no more dead areas in the house, the game systems and computers and chromecasts all play nicely together, and I can sit in my bed with my computer and not have pages time out.One thing I will note about it though was that simply having it double the SSID didn't work so well; the devices would connect to it but wouldn't apparently be connected to the internet. I gave it its own unique SSID and that problem went away immediately.
Works Once You Can Actually Set It Up - But Don't Bother Calling Tech Support...
December 4, 2015
I had trouble with setup, but now that it's up, it works nicely. We have a two story house and the router is upstairs. We had very little or no signal in downstairs family room and 1/2 bath, but now with this gadget in the dining room downstairs, no more dead spots! It was a pain to setup though - my router has no WPA button so I had to use option 2 for setup. The instructions weren't very clear or detailed and the "24/7 phone support" does not exist. I tried to call twice and it said there was nobody in the queue ahead of me, yet nobody answered... Overall, I'm happy, but I really wish it had come with better instructions - or someone to actually answer my call. It took about 30 - 45 minutes trying over and over...
Good extender, but doesn't work well with OpenDNS / Router Internet Access Filtering
November 1, 2015
Great Range Extender- gives me reception in the rest of the house, as my router is in the basement. However, if you are an advanced user, and are using something like OpenDNS on your router for restricting internet, this may not be a good choice.Putting this in a real world example: our router is set up to block all internet access after 9pm. I have bypass rules in place so my computer and phone, as well as my wife's, can still get on. Sometimes our devices will connect to the extender instead of the router, and we get blocked, because the TP-LINK is set to the default restriction settings on the router when it connects. To get around the blocking, we had to configure the TP-LINK to deny our devices a connection- which kind of limits the benefit of having this device. It would be nice if the TP-LINK had the ability to have time based connection restrictions, or worked with OpenDNS just like routers do.
Plugged it in 20' from where it hadn't worked, and works great with our Vizio tv for Amazon Prime Tv. Wifi is a mystery here.
August 26, 2015
Never worked for our printer in the office with our wireless Epson printer and Comcast router. It never worked in our family room or any other room where other extenders worked for our smart phones, androd tablets and Acer Chromebook. Now it works as noted below:This week, our plain Jane TP 300 link for our Vizio tv, also in the family room, stopped working after a year, and we couldn't get Amazon prime on the Vizio. I replaced the old TP link with this unit, and plugged the Vizio into the built in socket. I plugged an RJ45 from the unit to the Vizio. It took a couple of tries with the WPS buttons, and it connected with our Comcast router and Amazon prime. We now have a great Amazon Prime video and sound with the Vizio. The unit reinforces the other TP extender in our family room for an excellent and powerful wifi signal strength.

My wife doesn't need diamonds to maker her happy. Just reliable wifi.
July 15, 2017
This is an initial review for the first 12 hours. I got this as a Prime member with free same day shipping because my wife has been complaining that her wifi keeps disconnecting with our previous system. So I bought this one to use in access point mode.I connected this to my wired LAN and followed the directions in the "Do More" instruction book and had it set up in just a few minutes. I used a wifi analyzer that is free download from the app store and made sure the channel was on a channel that didn't overlap or conflict with another channel. Everything checked out great. It is also an attractive/bad-ass looking AP sitting on my end table in my living room :) I'll update this review in a few months if everything goes well and give it a full 5 stars.
Good Results Accessing Neighbor's Wi-Fi (With Their Permission)
June 10, 2017
This extender was purchased to permit wi-fi internet access in parents-in-law residence from a router in next door neighbor's password-protected account (with neighbor's advance permission, of course). Forgot to take laptop with me during initial setup, but was able to set up extender using iOS device without any issues. No reception on 5GHz band, but very good reception on 2.4 band. Once set up, two iOS devices and a laptop were able to detect both the neighbor's router and the range extender. Two to three bars on the master router, four to five bars on the extender, depending on our location in the in-laws residence. Both homes are wood frame with brick exterior, and while uncertain of location of router in neighbor's home, the extender was placed as close as possible. Estimated distance between homes is 50 feet. We had originally tried a no-antenna plug-in other name brand extender but didn't have a very strong signal, so we are very please with this Netgear AC1200 extender.
Paired it with a Netgear AC1200 USB adapter at the other end to attempt to get the best connection possible
January 28, 2016
Works just as expected. Using this to help the range of my wifi out to my shop, a couple hundred feet away from the house. Paired it with a Netgear AC1200 USB adapter NETGEAR AC1200 WiFi USB 2.0 Adapter - AC Dual Band (A6200-100PAS) at the other end to attempt to get the best connection possible. Unfortunately the USB adapter proved to be problematic so it may not be the best example of the AC unit's capabilities, but as a B/G/N extender this has worked well.Set up was super easy, easier than expected. It has a physical switch to swap between being a simple repeater or an access point. My wifi router is in my [concrete] basement, and am using this as a wired access point located in my attic to try and get even coverage through the house. Plugged it in, pulled up the admin page and setup was done in a matter of seconds, but as plenty of functionality if you want to get into the details. You can control the output power which is nice if you're in a more compact area like an apartment or office building to limit how far it broadcasts.Overall this seems like a solid unit with easy administration that works well.
Simple and effective
October 14, 2015
This thing is great!. It does exactly what it say - It extends your wireless network. It will double your signal size, but not the power. Internet speed tests show that being connected to my home network is faster (even at weaker signal ranges) than using this extender, but I prefer the extender because my internet connection won't cut out while connected to it. I have 100% signal strength with the extender compared to a fluttering 25% or less connected to my home network. The WPS security is a great feature too. Just remember that the password that you'll be typing in when you connect to your extender is the password you use to connect to your home network.
Extends network's range but runs warm.
October 5, 2015
This network range extender does the job for me. I was having trouble linking smart devices to my router when out on the patio so I took a chance on ordering this Netgear extender. So far I've been pleased. I keep the extender plugged into an indoor kitchen wall outlet that's about 15 feet from the patio and about 30 feet away from my router. I no longer have trouble linking smart devices to my router. (The reason I use a kitchen outlet is to keep it far from my inquisitive doggies.) I do, however, turn it on and off depending on whether I'm out on the patio. Why? Well, that's the only drawback to this device: it gets very warm in operation. That means it wastes energy while turned on. I turn it on and wait for it to wirelessly connect to the router. That takes about 15 seconds. Then I change the Wi Fi network setting on my iPad or iPhone from the router's to the extender's. It's reasonably convenient to do this. Set up was straightforward. All in all, I like the fact that this device works for me but wish it weren't so warm in operation.
Disappointing 2.4GHz speed
April 12, 2014
Purchased this one about a week ago. Paired it with an R7000 via 5GHz FastLane, line of sight, excellent 5GHz signal. Wired EX6200 clients have impressive(!) throughput. So far everything looks peachy. Unfortunately, however, the EX6200's 2.4GHz radio gives disappointing speeds, and I am not sure what the issue is. Possibly (a) subpar WiFi 2.4GHz drivers--that is, assuming that (b) this is not a hardware design issue, or that (c) my particular router's 2.4GHz radio is bad. Here is why I can pronounce myself so categorically about this: I did an experiment by, essentially, bypassing EX6200's 2.4GHz radio by using my trusty old Linksys E4200's radio instead (see experiment description in this thread: http://goo.gl/sffSsS). This setup (see diagram here: http://goo.gl/tuhBLX) gives amazing speeds. The only conclusion I can draw so far is that Ex6200's 2.4GHz radio is bad.Update: Just for kicks, after a few days I switched back to using EX6200's 2.4GHz radio, and this time I got better speeds! Not really sure what's happening: it's as if the EX6200 2.4GHz radio had to be run for a while to reach nominal parameters (just like in the analog world--go figure!). Anyway, I have bumped up my rating to 4 stars thanks to this new development. I'll be switching back and forth between the two radios (EX6200 and E4200) for the next few months, hence attempt at diagnosing this over a longer time period.

Just ok
May 10, 2017
Unfortunately, my modem has to be hardwired to my PC for work. My office is at the opposite end of the house from my bedroom where I get next to no signal. The unit is a breeze to set up; placement was a bit trickier but, I used my mobile to find precisely where the signal drops off and plugged it there, easy-peasy. My only issue is effort; this unit basically only boosts from the point of placement and weakens the initial signal in the process. That means if I plug it in to use my phone in my bedroom, I have to unplug it if I leave the area outside of the placement point, (closer to the modem and initial signal itself). Not to mention, I have to reset the WiFi setting on my phone coming and going, (although this may just be a hardware issue). I guess I could have returned it but, it works so that's good enough for now.
These extenders DO extend the range, but sacrifice a LOT of bandwidth and speed.
October 5, 2016
I purchased these range extenders because I wanted to expand the ability of our preschool teachers to access the Internet in their rooms. Unfortunately, even with these very nice range extenders it cuts the speed of the Internet by way more than half. This did however work very well as a Wi-Fi "Card" for my desktop computer which did not have one. It plugged into the ethernet port and I was able to access our WiFi.Overall, I think they're very good devices but I purchased six and I am returning for because they did not meet what I was hoping they would do. The speed that I got from these was certainly not a fast by any stretch of the imagination.
Good product, but make sure you have the distance.
June 27, 2016
I've only given this product 3 stars simply because I don't think where I put it is giving it a chance to work at it's full potential. I don't live in that big of a dwelling even though I have two levels. I put it upstairs to help boost the Wi-Fi that's downstairs so our two computers upstairs might benefit but I don't think the distance is far enough for it to have the proper effect on our computers. I really don't have an outlet further away that I can use at this time. I'm sure it would work well if I did set it further away from the main Wi-Fi. I do like the outlet feature it has however, so you don't loose a place to plug in something else.
Is it NEW? Is it reconditioned? Is it USED? I just don't know.
December 27, 2015
I've ordered 3 of these. I'm still skeptical because we have so many dead spots in our house whether these are worth it. I received my 3rd today. Opened the sealed Amazon box to find a torn open bag with the product loose in the bag. It did not come in its own box as previous orders. I will be calling Amazon to complain. I have no idea why this order came like this. I don't even think it's brand new the way it was thrown in the box. The cord was loose in the bag too. Just very haphazard. The last two ones I ordered do NOT SEEM to be linking up. We can't figure out why. The wireless light is supposed to "blink" but the last two won't "blink".
Almost gave it a one star...
May 1, 2015
The unit arrived on time and in good shape, things got shaky from there. I tried the "Easy" start up and it didn't work for me. Method 2 looked too involved so I cursed under my breath and pushed it to the side. Had a little free time today so I looked at "method 2" again, looked simple enough so I began, maybe ten minutes latter I was waiting for extender to connect. Got the old Error 404 message and almost gave up! Noticed the signal light was Amber and not green, that coded for "too close" well of course it was too close it was plugged in next to router! I moved it to other side of house and it all went to green!! I have full strength wifi all over house and far into backyard! One to five stars in 2 seconds.2/21/16. As time passed the unit will often drop my iPad or iPhone and ask for me to log in, no matter what I can't log in as requested but it will eventually reconnect, a real pain but I'm still using it until I find a replacement.
Good, Cheap, and Fast install but use a UPS Battery Backup and Change your WIFI Channel to a less crowded one
November 6, 2014
Probably the easiest installation I ever did for a network. I used the WPS buttons on both the TP-Link and my wifi router. Done in a couple of minutes. One key point is that I always use a UPS battery backup (Uninterruptible Power Supply) for my routers as well as the TP-Link. Routers of all types are notoriously susceptible to power spikes and I am guessing that a lot of the 1 star router/extender reviews out there are caused by power issues. Since this is an outlet design, I would guess that plugging in a vacuum cleaner into the same outlet will mess this thing up. It's been running for a few weeks now with no issues. It's not the strongest boost but just enough to cover the remote corners of the house and parts of the surrounding yard. No more complaining from the roving iPad users in the family ; ) Given the low price it's a fair bargain. UPDATE: After 2 years it's dying but I can't complain about the price. An additional issue for the negative reviewers might be their inability to MANUALLY CHANGE THE WIFI CHANNEL on their primary router since the default wifi channels are invariably overcrowded .

OK extender, poor customer support
July 2, 2017
I installed this extender about a year ago and it worked "ok" in an upstairs room. I just had a new router installed and tried to reconfigure this extender with the new router. I followed the directions to the letter and it would not work! I was going to call technical support, but then I noticed that if it's more than 90 days past purchase date, you have to PAY more to get customer support to help you. In my book, that's bad business. I guess I should have read the fine print when I bought it. So, I guess I'll just be tossing this unit in the trash....buyer beware if you ever have to reconfigure this device for a new router.
Extends Coverage but Speed is MUCH Slower vs Router
July 31, 2016
I purchased this to extend coverage to a dead area in my home. It does extend coverage - I went from 1 wifi bar to 3 on my phone and from Fair to Good signal with my Roku - so I can use those devices now where I couldn't before. As others have noted, the speed is significantly slower than the base router. In my case, my router is at 300 mbps while this shows as 144 mbps (for Windows users, you can check the speeds by clicking on the connection in your control panel). My old TP link, which was starting to drop service and had weaker coverage, was at 300 mbps so not sure why the Netgear is falling short. Perhaps there is some (non-obvious) configuration that can be done, but it's definitely not 300 mbps out of the box.
Glitchy Firmware, Finicky Performance
June 22, 2016
I purchased 2 of these units as upgrades to existing bridge/repeaters.Once I'd setup the first repeater, the firmware notified me an update was available. After downloading and initiating the install process the unit locked up and refused to reboot without a hard power reset. Even after hard rebooting, the unit would not turn on its wifi radios, nor could I connect even via a wire. This forced me to perform a hard reset on the unit, effectively wiping all of my settings. Assuming that this had been a "one-off", I proceeded to setup the second unit using the same process and the *exact same thing happened*. I also noted that the interface provided by the updated firmware, while "prettier", has many annoying quirks, not the least of which is a redirect that sends you to the external Netgear website every time you make certain changes, like altering the operating mode. In-depth menu features like setting static IPs are also "buried" in non-obvious places - the updated interface is seriously "dumbed down" and obviously geared towards people that know virtually nothing about networking - a pain for those of us that have a need to customize. Overall navigation of the firmware is deplorable.Once setup, the units operate flawlessly in wired bridge mode, but are spotty at best in wireless repeat. Even though the status interface shows good connections with the primary router and bridged devices are working acceptably, connecting to the WIFI can be prolonged and performance is sometimes good, sometimes abysmal. This is even true when nothing else is connected to the device either wired or wirelessly, so it isn't simply an issue of bandwidth saturation.Overall, I'm very disappointed in this unit. I would caution others about the firmware upgrade. One assumes it is a good idea to upgrade to take advantage of needed security updates, but do only enough setup to establish internet connectivity and then perform a manual firmware update check before proceeding - otherwise you will likely loose everything. If you are looking for a reliable bridge/repeater unit, I would suggest you keep looking. This one is not a great choice.
Good but beware of firmware upgrade
February 13, 2016
Decent product. Easy to setup and has a good range. BUT beware! Do not upgrade your firmware to version 1.0.0.16... The factory default one (1.0.0.14) worked fine. Once you upgrade the firmware you will see strange behavior with some devices (2 of 4 of mine experienced it) related to bad DNS settings and internet connectivity dropping. Once I rolled back to the factory delivered one everything was back to normal and stable again. Hopefully this helps others who see the same issue. Took me a day to figure it out. If the firmware upgrade didn't cause such issues it would be a 4 or 5 star rating for me.Also, customer service phone support is atrocious. I got ignored 3 times! Once you go through their standard script and they get stuck, they'll ask to put you on hold and never come back - they don't actually hang up, they just never pick up the line again. Very frustrating.
This access point helps but it is not perfect
September 12, 2015
My service provider has very fast internet speeds. WIFI reduces this to a much slower speed. Moving further from the access point lowers this to a speed that is unexceptable. Next to the WIFI router download speed = +/- 70mbps and upload =+/- 20mbps. 80 ft. from the router Download = less than 2mbps download and 3mbps upload. placing the AC750 between the two gives much lower speeds than next to the router. After trying every electrical outlet between bedroom and router which is at the opposite end of house (80 ft) The best I can get is 17mbps download and 12mbps upload. This works well for browsing but not very good for streaming video which pauses to download several times during a movie. Occasionally the download fails with the message "insufficient bandwidth".Another problem occurs when I close my computer. The AC750 drops off line and when come back on line my laptop is not connected to the AC750. This requires that I open the wifi network on the laptop and manually select the AC750 wifi network.I am going to have to get 100 ft ethernet cable and rout it through my ceiling and move the router to the bedroom.
Could be better...

This could be an awesome range extender/WiFi bridge if it weren't for some fairly significant limitations. It seems to provide decent output power and has no problem with weak input signal strength, however it can't provide truly seamless WiFi range extender functionality because you can only name one of the radio SSIDs the same as the source router SSID. In my configuration I have both 2.4GHz and 5GHz radios set to the same SSID on my WiFi router, the EX6200 can only set one radio SSID to the same as my router, setting them both to the same SSID causes an error on the EX6200. I have contacted Netgear, and was told that this was a limitation of the current firmware. I have several TP-LINK RE200 AC750 Universal Wireless Dual Band Range Extender (Wall Plug) which replicate the source router completely, albeit at less power output, for a seamless network, I would recommend those. The other problem that I've seen is that DHCP will not work on the 5 GBE ports on the back, I'm not sure why, but connected devices timeout before receiving an IP address; static addresses work fine.I would rate the extender higher if it would allow both radios to have the same SSID, and had either built-in DHCP or DHCP pass-through.Returning the EX6200, the lack of dual band concurrency (both radios can't have the same SSID) was too much of a problem with my WiFi cards. Also, I noticed that my other range extenders TP-LINK RE200 AC750 Universal Wireless Dual Band Range Extender (Wall Plug) were dropping out when the EX6200 was turned on. Disappointing...

Didn't last as long as I'd hoped.

Originally this thing worked like a charm...it was a proverbial godsend. My bedroom gets the worst wifi signal from even the best router & when I first set this up; which was a bit of a hassle trying it through the "easy" WPS button; it provided me the signal strength I was sorely lacking. I was back to streaming youtube/netflix etc to the chromecast in the bedroom without issue. Fast forward 8 months later & this thing is ALWAYS dropping the connection. It got to the point where I have unplugged it completely after repositioning it from the bathroom (the midpoint in the apt) into the bedroom which worked for about a month before it started dropping connection left & right again. I loved it at first, but now it's just a paperweight.
Sadly .. didn't work for me.
March 11, 2017
I REALLY wish I could say I loved this thing..It's beautifully designed and very neatly packaged... however. The actual function failed me.I tried various places within my house to set this up, and in each instance after I got it configured (using a CAT5 cable so I could manually pick the network) .. the "Extended" signal came through with greatly attenuated throughput. With a Laptop next to the TP-Link, I would connect to the primary router and run Speedtest.net.I'd then connect to the TP-Link "Extended" net... and in all cases the throughput was a fraction of that from the primary router.Maybe I just had a buggy one or a weird situation.. but I ended up sending it back for a refund..bought a better primary router ( an inexpensive Linksys EA6350 Wi-Fi Wireless Dual-Band+ Router with Gigabit)... now all is good.
Serviceable, but it does have some issues
December 29, 2016
Seems to be alright. Relatively simple to set up, but the speeds through this are a lot lower than connecting directly to the other router (~15Mbps through this vs. ~30Mbps through the router). Additionally, there are some occasionally some wonkiness. My wife and I have had a dropped connection once in a while-- probably a couple times a month-- even when quite close to the extender (full wifi bars -> dropped).Could definitely do better, but this thing is also very affordable.UPDATE 3/2017: Connection to the range extender started dropping occasionally. Ended up getting a set of 3 Google Wifi routers to replace our aging router and this extender.
Easy to configure, but didn't make things any better at all.

Troubleshooting devices of this type can be nearly impossible. Once it is configured to pretend to be the same SSID as the router/WAP, then who can say when you are connected to which device. I can say that the perceived speed of the network in the house was significantly lower after these devices were added and was greatly improved after they were unplugged. Configuration was very simple and there seems to be no fine-tuning options available for the end-user. I have my WAP in the basement of a story-and-a-half house that is very easily reached on the top floor. I put one of these at each end of the house on the main level, hoping to extend the range to the gardens and the detached garage. The only perceived change was everything slowed down, the firesticks attached to the TV's could no longer stream HD from the PLEX server. And WIFI strength, as tested on iphone and android device did not improve at either exterior location. I would recommend something else for others.

January 26, 2016
I think I need to spend some more time on this, but so far it was much more annoying to set up than I'd anticipated & I have not noticed any difference in my signal - in fact I've had more issues with wifi than before. Also, the only way you can plug something in above it is if it's a VERY small cord, any overhand other than the plug itself & it won't fit due to how big the box is. 2 prong would be fine, but anything with 3 I had to force, so you're really only left with the outlet on the unit itself.
It works when it wants to, which is never.
December 28, 2015
I bought this wifi extender based on the decent reviews it had. I'm not sure if my unit is defective, but it's been disappointing. I'm very comfortable with computers, and given how easy this wifi extender is to set up, I can confidently say that there is no user error here. The wifi extender definitely works to extend the signal from my router, the problem is it never works long enough to extend it. Using the wps option on my tplink router to pair to the extender, and making sure it has 4 bars of signal on the extender, it will stay connected to the router for maybe 24 hours at most. After that, it completely wipes itself, and acts like it's a brand new unit out of the box. What I mean by this, is that instead of connecting into the router and my network, it redirects to the setup page with instructions on how to configure the extender if you were setting up a new unit. It officially went in the trash tonight, and is being replaced by a much more reliable unit. I suppose that this is a you get what you pay for situation, but I'd spend my money elsewhere and buy a better built unit.

Not nearly as good as my $15 off-brand travel router.
December 25, 2016
There's a WiFi hotspot down the street from my house whose signal is strong enough that my laptop will connect, but only when I sit in the front window .. (it's a public Xfinity hotspot and I am a paid subscriber, so I'm not trying to steal any signal). My intent when buying this unit was to place it in the front window and establish a local wifi network within my house that uses the hotspot as its internet source WAN.Well, the unit sometimes connects to the hotspot and sometimes not, even though the signal is strong enough for my laptop to connect fairly reliably when the laptop is in the same location. After fiddling with this thing for weeks - moving around the antennas, re-orienting the unit, trying different settings - I finally gave up and bought an Edimax portable travel router the size of a pack of gum at Fry's for $15, which turned out to work much better despite having no external antenna at all.(I read online that this unit can be flashed with DD-WRT, the free open-source router firmware, and turned into a full-function router. I was able to do this successfully but have had little luck getting it to function as expected.. I'm starting to suspect that my unit itself might be faulty..)
Disappointed
May 19, 2016
Addendum: The output of my Nighthawk router eclipses that of this extender when I use it as an access point, at a decent separation distance in ends of my house. Original: I bought this as a companion to a Nighthawk router, and am disappointed. A Netgear user for years, it was surprising to find out how many functions are lost or reduced when using this device either as a repeater or access point. For the latter it is easier to simply use another full function router, and no advantage to a paired product for first having to hobble settings on the Nighthawk router. One would think it possible to write into the firmware the ability to create the pseudo-MAC addresses if using access control, which is a strong security selling point. In addition to the loss of functions (radio and security as a repeater), the design is terrible. The indicator lights are on the large side, not the face. The pull-out info placard is positioned to incline one to use the thing upside-down, and at that the antennas are in the way of the placard, which intuitively is opposite to the Nighthawk router. What a waste of time trying to work around the performance limitations of this thing before understanding the severity. The full instructions (downloaded) and abbreviated versions contradict each other in many ways.
Did not work for me..
April 18, 2016
I consider myself a fairly tech-savvy consumer, having worked in IT for my entire 30 year working career. I bought this, in the hopes that it would provide reliable WiFi access within my house (the main WiFi router is at one end, and my office happens to be at the other). Its setup was easy, but from the start, I noticed that access to the Internet via the extender was noticibly slower at best, and glacially slow in general. This was compounded when I would use my Cisco VPN client to access my work network via the extender. On the plus side, I did not have the VPN freezes that I experienced with my prior extender, but that was the only plus. Otherwise, any of my applications that accessed my work network would hang quite often -- so much so, that my connection to work was pretty much unusable. I reset the unit and confirmed that I have the latest firmware, but none of that helped. I'm returning it and buying a better main WiFi router and I will provide a review for that when I have it installed..
Not terribly reliable.
July 24, 2015
Not terribly reliable.I bought this about 10 months before I posted the review. So I've had some time with it.The good: when it works it's pretty decent. Pulls a signal well over line of sight and within a home even around some corners provided they aren't concrete. Which is fine and what you expect. The bad: the problem is that it goes strange pretty much once a day, and then your only recourse is to unplug it, wait about 30-60 seconds, and then plug it back in and wait for all the WiFi clients [_and_ Ethernet if you're using any of the gigabit ports] to reconnect. Even more frustrating, there is no indication from the hardware that it's failed. You pretty much have to figure that out on your own. For example: I connect to a VPN for a number of my clients. Net Use \\uncname typically works for anywhere from an hour to a day. Then you have to reset the thing.Lest you believe this is entirely a problem with intermittent connectivity on my own network, I'll offer two other examples that illustrate this is not the case. First, I've tried this experiment by paralleling the VPN connection with my phone and tablet directly to the router at the same distance as the AC1200. _Neither_ alternative device _ever_ has this problem.Second, even within the unit's own routing protocols on Cat6 Ethernet there are die-outs. If I have two desktop machines both plugged into the gigabit ports, once the extender hiccups, "arp -a" from one machine wont' find the other. Ping returns "destination host unreachable." (as you expect from arp -a with no entry for the other machine.) Now this is simply NOT possible with two computers on the same network segment with the same netmask plugged into the same extender/router unless the unit has serious issues. Unplug the thing, count 1-Mississippi to 30-Mississippi, plug it back in and wait about a minute for the clients to renew their leases and ... bingo ... arp -a from one machine now finds the other.I'd love to give this a decent review, because when it works, as I say, it's great. But if you need a reliable network appliance, I can't recommend it.[PS: and yes, firmware is religiously kept up-to-date.]
I purchased an Apple refurbished range extender for just over 1/2 the price of this extender and it works much better..
March 13, 2015
We have Xfinity/Comcast internet and phone system in our home. The router wireless does not cover our entire home and customer service at Xfinity told me that the routers do not do well in "old" homes with lathe and plaster walls -- so I purchased this "expensive" range extender to extend the internet service in our home. After several hours of working with it along with Xfinity customer support, we were finally able to get the extender to log onto the Xfinity system. I followed the Netgear instructions about where to place the extender and I thought that it would work. No, it did not work in a room directly below the room where the Xfinity internet router is. I wanted to speak with someone at Netgear, but they do not provide telephone support, at least there were no telephone numbers on any of the documents that came in the box. I have given up after spending hours trying to make this extender work. I am sending it back for a refund. I purchased an Apple refurbished range extender for just over 1/2 the price of this extender and it works much better .... It is my fault however, as I should have known better than purchase anything from a company without telephone support.
Removable antennas? Not really.
February 3, 2015
I asked Netgear for advice: I told them that I wanted a range extender that would accept a directional antenna. They recommended this unit. While it does have removable antennas, apparently (as I discovered while asking them followup questions after purchase) putting on another antenna will void the warranty, so I'm not sure what they were thinking recommending this. Nor will the unit, as far as I can tell, figure out to use a 2.4GHz directional antenna for the 2.4GHz band and a dual-band or 5GHz antenna for the 5GHz signal. However, the unit is effective if you don't need anything fancier than the antennas that it comes with, and the 3-colour light that tells you how good the signal is makes positioning the unit marginally easier (although you can--and you will want to--go into the device's webpage for more precise information).Shame on Netgear for failing to stand behind their blatantly inappropriate product recommendations, but for what it is, it's pretty decent.

Huge disappointment, returning.
December 5, 2016
Really poor performance.Although the led on the extender shows green (optimum distance from router) the wireless network is really slow and choppy. And believe it or not, the extender is just 4ft away from my laptop and no obstruction in between. I also removed the possibility of a faulty laptop by testing the speed from my phone and ipad. All the devices are catching equally bad signal. The wifi analyser that I used to test the connection also doesn't show really strong reading, and sometime almost same as my original wifi reading.Really disappointed in this product, I'll have to return this product and I hope rma is atleast easy process and free.
Crap..
October 17, 2016
Horrible. It's easy to set up & works for a little while, then it goes all stupid! Seriously, it works fine for a day or so, then either loses connection or loses security & shows up as an open internet access point. If you like sharing your internet access with anyone, this is for you! I've reset it multiple times & it's always the same result. Currently sitting in its nice fancy shipping box waiting for the garbage man to pick it up.
BEWARE "tplinkrepeater.net" may have Malware!
January 22, 2016
It worked for a few months and then I couldn't connect. The website the instructions told me to connect to "tplinkextender.net" has a damn virus! Another website I was directed to "tplinkconnect.net" was for sale! I finally ended up at http://tplinkrepeater.net and still couldn't get into the device. It seemed it just stopped transmitting its wi-fi signal.... I did a reset on the device and was able to receive a signal and then was able to log into tplinkrepeater.net as admin with my Mac Air. It was almost finished when a popup said my Adobe Flash was out of date. I didn't click on that and closed the browser. I decided to try reseting it and try again on a different computer running Win 10. I got it to load up and there wasn't any popups for outdated flash, but a weird search site replaced the TP-Link site. I shut down my browser and opened it again, no problem. I went and connected my desktop ethernet cable into the TP-Link Range Extender and I was connected to the internet, but when I opened the browser it said I have a virus and to call the number they provided for tech help. I couldn't open another tab. I closed the browser without clicking on the notice and unplugged the ethernet cable and restarted my desktop. I opened up the browser and the notice popped up again. So now I have some kind of malware I have to deal with all because I used TP-Link's websites to get access to their device! I am dumping this and getting something a little more dependable...
Inadequate Range Extender
November 2, 2015
It is coming up on two years since I purchased the TP-Link N300 Wi-Fi Range Extender on Amazon. I really had high expectations for this device. Sorry to say, it has not worked out as expected. I finally discontinued using the device at the beginning of November 2015. I kept being patient with it for as long as I could and finally decided enough was enough. Some real issues I have faced, and these issues I have systematically tried to solve. Electronics and computers are my forte, but the TP-Link sometimes defies what should work and becomes voodoo. Here are just two issues that are disturbing:* It has a tendency to drop out, and I find myself having to unplug it, and literally reboot it to get it to function again. My Amazon Echo really drove this issue home for me. The Echo has a powerful Wi-Fi pickup and when it would not function with the TP-Link on, and worked just fine with the TP-Link unplugged, it made me ponder what was going on. After completely disengaging the TP-Link from use in my home, my Echo is just as happy as she can be, which makes me extremely happy! I cannot be without my functioning Echo!!*I have a Samsung 55 inch smart television. Most of the time, if the TP-Link is plugged in, I cannot stream movies on my smart TV. This is extremely annoying. I have come to the conclusion that there must be a latency issue with the TP-Link connecting with my Wi-Fi and my smart TV becomes very un-smart and claims that I am not connected to the internet. I have done extensive research on the Samsung Smart TV I have and the issue is not the TV. I have tweaked every setting that could be an issue on the TV, to no avail. I unplug the TP-Link, set things back where they were on my Smart TV, and magically my streaming works just fine. The voodoo in the system seems to be the TP-Link.Let me tell you, I have worked diligently with this device close to 2 years, and time has run out for TP-Link. I really have tried to solve the issues encountered with the TP-Link, to no avail. The days of working with the mysteries of the TP-Link are over in my household. It will be thrown into the trash bin; expensive lesson not only in money but in frustration. Lesson I learned, the TP-Link is not a proven device. If I wish to extend the range of my Wi-Fi, then I have learned that the TP-Link is NOT the way to boost the signal.
Great concept (simple/brain dead install) but failed usefulness.
February 18, 2015
Only extends the internal network, drops/interferes with Internet connection.Read most of the one star reviews others have posted. They are accurate. I figured with Amazon's good return policy I would risk this, but it was a failed experiment.Easy to set up. Starts dropping the Internet within 24 hours. Since this broadcasts the same ID and security as the router it is extending, all devices near it will connect to it versus the weaker signal--as it should be. BUT, then as it fails to connect to the internet, the devices cannot roll over to the weaker signal of the same ID. Unplug the the TP-Link and all wireless devices instantly connect to Internet. Thus, I think the problem has been isolated, this device.Great concept (simple/brain dead install) but failed usefulness.
BIG Aggravation!
September 26, 2014
Easy enough to set up. Plugged it in close to my router and pushed the little button on the Extender. Waited for the appropriate lights to light up. Then it was ready about a minute later. Unplugged it and plugged it in down a hallway, great spot according to their suggestions. Worked great for a while. Then slowly started kicking me off the wifi signal, even though our home modem/router was working fine. Unplugged the Extender from the wall and devices got back on modem/router signal. Plugged Extender back in, devices are kicked off yet again. So tired of this happening several times a week now! Now it's almost a month past the return date and I'm stuck with an aggravation that cost $30. Going to try another brand and see if it works better.

Do your research and buy a better one, like the TP-Link RE355
March 26, 2017
Placed in the attic, only about 27 feet from my router and it was constantly loosing connectivity. Now I cannot even log into it, and the reset button is not working. it's basically a brick with a login screen that shows "please wait a moment" after I type in my password. Shame on me getting busy with work and miss my return window, I should have just taken my $30 to the bar, i would have gotten more use of the money that way.
Save yourself. Don't buy it.
February 20, 2017
This thing is junk. It connects to my home wifi no problem, but it drops my devices randomly and frequently. Became unusable after only a couple weeks. So glad it's past the point of return. Now it's money wasted. Surprising, too, since I'm usually very happy with Netgear products. Not this one, though.
Netgear tech support is useless!!!!!!
August 16, 2016
I have always been a big fan of Netgear products. They have always worked great for me. I purchased an extender in July of 2015 to improve the signal in the back den. I purchased another one just like it in March of 2016 to extend my wifi signal to my new studio in the back yard. Everything worked great until I had some problems with my router. After resetting the router the extenders refused to reconnect to the router. I called Netgear support for help. They informed me that I was not eligible for support because BOTH devices were no longer under warranty. BUT they would be delighted to help me if I purchased a a service contract that costs ONLY 139.00 A YEAR!!!!! The original cost of this device was only $40.00. I told them to forget it, I would buy another brand of extender.
MULTIPLE UNITS all stopped working after 4-5 months
January 6, 2016
I have gone through 3 of these things already. (2 have already been replaced by Netgear's RMA warranty process). Either I'm the unluckiest person who buys Netgear products, or this wifi extender has a major flaw. ALL THREE of these that I've used, have stopped working between 4-5 months. It was not an issue of vicinity to my Netgear router...they were all used in the same place and showed the exact same symptoms when they stopped working. All of the lights on the unit are green when setup properly and unit has good connections, 4-5 months later, the unit lights will turn red and orange, and the signals will be nonexistent. No amount of resetting, or reconfigurations solves the problem....they just go dead. Netgear has been pretty good at sending me replacements, but it costs me shipping costs (nearly $20) each time I receive a replacement. Why should I have to replace a $100 wifi extender every 4-5 months??
The problem was how incredibly crappy the Netgear support was
October 13, 2015
The problem wasn't the product, the product didn't work, but that happens. The problem was how incredibly crappy the Netgear support was. Case number 25895779, the guys ID was 1098. I put this down so hopefully Netgear will review this case. Not only did this guy have no clue on the most basic of Netgear support, after 35 minutes of putting me on hold 5 times to talk to somebody else, he ended up putting me back into the waiting queue to start from scratch. After 40 minutes I hung up with him, called Amazon and returned this horrible product. I will never again buy Netgear. Thank you Amazon. God bless you and your insanely overworked staff.
Unreliable with poor support
May 2, 2015
When it works it is wonderful, unfortunately it doesn't work very long. The first unit failed within a week and Amazon replaced it immediately. Thank you Amazon! The second unit operated perfectly for 5 months and then became very slow, followed by intermittently not working at all. I did multiple resets but never got the unit to operate more than about 10 minutes and even then the speed was never better than dial-up. I emailed Netgear tech support and got a prompt reply explaining the unit only carried 90 days of free tech support but it did give me a number to call. Since it was still within the 1 year hardware warranty I figured I'd call them and get an RMA. Typical call center support I could barely understand with suggestions that it was everything except the repeaters problem. I was offered the chance to buy a support contract several times and I explained that I didn't need tech support I needed to start the RMA process. I know the guy was just reading his check list but he never understood the unit had worked and now no longer did. No, it was not the electrical outlet, nor was the extender moving around my house, nor was it the ISP, ... After stumbling around for half an hour with "support" I finally gave up in frustration. There is no way I would pay for this type of "support". Essentially you are on your own after Amazon's return period is up.
