Very nice keyboard - headphone jack on piano is 1/4"; supplied headphones have 3.5mm mini plug ... they don't match
January 21, 2017
Very nice. I am a learner and consequently, this review not from a experienced pianist. The keyboard feel is very nice. It has an incredible array of user functions, voices, configurations, memory, etc. I typically just play it as a piano. As a learner, I especially like the LCD display in the center which shows the Grand Staff and highlights which keys are being depressed. When headphones are plugged into the headphone jack, the speakers are disabled. One minor quibble; it came with some headphones. However, the headphone jack on the back of the piano is 1/4"; the headphones supplied have a 3.5 mm mini plug. If you want to use the headphones supplied with the piano, you will need an adapter.
Loud, clear, lots of features, and outstanding value!

As a value shopper, I also look for products that are a good middle of the road in quality, longevity, and features. Because let's face it, no matter how cheap something is if it falls apart or doesn't do what you want it to it really wasn't worth it.Too many times have I been taken in by price to find out I paid less...for a piece of junk. That's why I really appreciate the reviews on Amazon (and other sites). It's great to have a good cross-section of thoughts and opinions. Unfortunately we still have to filter the reviews based on our preferences and even the paid reviews, but if something is not 4 stars these days, I typically will not even give it the time of day. With the Yamaha TPG-235 keyboard I am happy to say that the reviews were very helpful in making this purchase. TONS of people have purchased and reviewed this item and about 9 out of 10 people have given it either 4 or 5 stars. That's impressive.I have discovered a way to keep prices down and still get the product that I want - SHOP THE REFURBISHED AND USED SECTION OF AMAZON! Amazon Warehouse items are usually open box or returned and I have yet to receive something from there that didn't still look brand new. Prices are typically around 15 - 25% off of the new price.ON TO THE KEYBOARD....ratings are on a scale of 1-101. AESTHETICS ** 8 ** The Yamaha TPG-235 doesn't look so much like a toy that you will not take it seriously though it is less appealing than some brands. We have previously owned a Williams piano and it was more sleek and looked more professional. BUT the Williams piano also felt like it was made out of concrete. It was SO heavy. The YPG-235 is light as a feather AND with 12 less keys than the typical 88-key keyboard, it's shorter as well. Which means if space is an issue (which it is for us) then you will like the shorter design. And you will VERY likely NOT miss the extra keys.2. SOUND ** 9 ** Clearly (pun intended) this is an important feature of this item. If an instrument doesn't sound great it will be a disappointment...at least eventually it will. Going from a Williams keyboard to this one seemed like a downgrade - but it wasn't. It DOES sound less like a grand piano but it makes up for it with it's full sounding speakers and TONS of voices (361 to be exact). There's give and take (especially when you are on a budget) but after owning this now for a few months I have to say that I am completely satisfied with the grand piano sound. My daughter plays the keyboard and I play guitar and they sound fantastic together. We both play somewhere in between the competent to proficient skill levels. I play a Taylor guitar so I DO understand quality when I see/hear it.3. QUALITY ** 9 ** I would say that the build quality is perfectly acceptable. The keys feel a little cheap and they are fairly noisy when the sound is down low or someone is playing using headphones. But when the volume is set to a normal playing level the key noise is completely drowned out. Speaker quality is superb and that is a HUGE plus with this item. The item is light but it doesn't feel so light that you feel that you are compromising quality at the same time.4. FEATURES ** 9 ** The 361 voices are a lot of fun to play with. That alone will keep you entertained with this keyboard for the first week or 2. But it's all about the piano voice for what we play - which is worship and praise music to the Lord. My daughter plays some classical music as well and in reality 99.9% of the time the grand piano voice will be used. One feature that's nice is that you can hit a single button to return you to the default voice which is grand piano. It also allows you to transpose the keyboard to different intervals/keys. This is similar to putting a capo on a guitar. Yeah, it may seem like cheating, but it's nice when you are still learning. It does NOT come with a power cord unless you buy the "Standard Pack" (which was the same price when bought open box from Amazon Warehouse). So be prepared to buy one if you get the keyboard only. Also, no pedal but Amazon has some great pedals for a decent price. We have had the M-Audio SP-2 Universal Sustain Pedal purchased from Amazon for about 2 years and it's holding up wonderfully. The "Standard Pack" also comes with a stand which is probably adequate to hold this keyboard but we already had a more heavy duty one holding up our old Williams keyboard so we just used it.5. VALUE ** 10 ** After researching and studying and reading review after review as well as comparing pricing for anything even close to price of this one, I have to say, you will not find a better keyboard than this one for $600 or less (the Yamaha YGP-535 is just under $600 and is essentially the same product with 12 more keys and a built in base and pedals and POSSIBLY better speakers). So if you are an extremely advanced player then perhaps look elsewhere but I do not consider this to be ONLY a beginner keyboard. Sure it's great for beginners too, but I think this instrument will take you well into the pre-advanced stages as well.6. OVERALL ** 9 ** Of course there is room for improvement for a $250 instrument but unless you are ready to jump up to $600 - $1000 your search is over.Hope this helps someone out there and feel free to ask any specific questions you may have!Col. 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

Sound quality is amazing and beautiful. Sustain pedal is impressive. key resistance is great, feels like a real stringed piano. Love it
A Great Piano.

This is a fantastic instrument! Am very excited to learn all the different functions that you are able to do. The Demo is amazing. If I can make music only 25% as nice as the demo, it will be great! Bought some blank music sheet paper to be able to right down all the different instruments notes. My 80 Mother has again realized how much she loves to play. She broke right out with her signature moves and was not bothered that it is only 8 keys short of a full size piano. It is also light enough to carry.
Awesome Piano
March 17, 2014
The piano is awesome, so much better than we thought it would be. My son practiced all weekend. The directions for the stand were very confusing and I ended up taking it apart and putting it back together about 3 times. Finally figured it out. If they would have had bigger pictures on the instructions or zoom in pictures to show which way it went, it would have saved a LOT of time. The headphones fell apart the minute we took them out of the package. The foam covering the headphones just disintegrated. We tried them anyway without the foam and they didn't even work at all. (Our own headphones worked fine plugged into the piano). As these were cheap headphones anyway and we were totally satisfied with the rest of this package, I just threw the headphones away. This was a very great deal.
Great

I have not explored nearly all of what this keyboard is capable of, but I am very happy so far. There are many sounds of high quality, and I am having a great deal of fun exploring this instrument. The con for me: I would prefer they put middle C right in the middle so we would get a low C and D instead of a low E. You can mess with settings to get lower notes, but for most of my playing and the playing I am familiar with, the low notes are more useful than the really high squeaky notes. My suggestion would be to lower the range of this keyboard 2 whole steps and then it would be complete for me. I probably will get one with a more full range eventually.

It's been great. Of course it had several pennies and objects ...
August 22, 2017
My son started playing the piano at age 5 so we got this for him to practice on. It's been great. Of course it had several pennies and objects rattling around under the keys now, but it sounds great and is really portable to move around. It didn't come with an ac cord, but they are cheap on Amazon. I would buy this again for a beginner player. Especially if your not sure that student will stick with it or not. Our did so far and will eventually upgrade to something more piano like, but this has been good for the home practice. My son goes to practice on a real piano once a week and has had several recitals using real piano...he hasn't had any issues transitioning from these light non-hammer weighted keys to real piano keys.
It sounds and feels wonderful. Great quality

We bought this piano for our 8yr old daughter. It sounds and feels wonderful. Great quality! I would certainly recommend it! Making Montessori Ours.com
Wow, we love it. Exceptional product and value.

We bought this digital piano for my son to practice piano on as he was having trouble progressing on his smaller keyboard. Like many people we don't have the space or money for a real piano at our house. My wife stumbled across this digital piano and it has been a great purchase.Really the biggest thing is the feel and size of the keys on this digital piano are amazing. They come very close to the feel of an expensive piano. The sound is quite good, even with the standard built in speakers. If you really want to kick it up a notch you can easily add some higher quality external speakers. The included foot pedal is also great and really helps get that experience of playing a real piano. For the price you really can't go wrong here. If you are looking for a way to help the budding pianist in your family take it to the next level you will not be disappointed with this digital piano.
I couldn't be happier with this purchase
August 1, 2015
I couldn't be happier with this purchase. I bought it to practice because my real piano is in storage. It plays very much like a regular piano, and the sound is terrific. If you buy it, make sure that you also buy the M-Audio SP-2 Sustain Pedal with Piano Style Action. You will be amazed at the sound.
Tips on buying a keyboard
May 29, 2015
#1) know how many keys you wantA piano has 88 keys, while keyboards come in sizes like (61) (76) (88). With 61 keys you can do all beginner and a lot of intermediate songs. With 76 Keys you can do all beginner pretty much all intermediate and a whole lot of full piano songs. With 88 Keys you can basically play anything. This Williams is an 88 key, basically as good amount of keys as you are going to get.#2) know what bells and whistles you wantWith a piano, you can only play the piano, keyboards however can come with a variety of extras which include anything from piano, guitar, to sounds of dogs and cats. They also can have light up keys, to built in songs, to options to download extras. For some these are desirable, to others they are unnecessary. If you are buying for a kid they may love these, if you are trying to simply learn piano, than really all you need is the piano sound. In general the bells and whistles are a lot of fun, but are only played with for the first few months, and the songs are neat but grow old and annoying very fast. So the most important thing is to make sure that the piano sound is a good sound. This Williams only comes with a few extra sound, all of which a useable, and sound fairly nice. The piano sound is very very very comparable to a real piano, does not sound electronic. And hooked up to an amplifier is side by side comparable to a piano.#3) how much do you want to payWhile there are some exceptions to the rule generallyUnder $100- will buy a 61 key, plastic, light weight, toy like, not weighted, keyboards with some extra, these can only be used for kids$100-$200- will buy some cheap made, some better quality 61 key keyboards; as well as some semi cheaply made, rarely some good quality 76 key keyboard.$200-$300- will buy a good quality 61 key, and some good quality 76 key keyboards$300-$500- can buy very nice 61 keys, and very nice 76 keys keyboards.$450 and up-will start to buy 88 key keyboards, the lower the price generally is the lower the quality. This Williams 88 key keyboard is the only 88 keyboard on Amazon under $400. And priced at just under $200, I don't think you will ever find a comparable 88 key for the good quality this one offers.#4) what's in the boxPretty much NO keyboard that you buy on Amazon is going to come with the power cord, so accept that fact and plan on buying the cord separately. The package deal that you buy with this piano comes with the pedal, cord and headphones, while they are not the highest quality they do the job very well, and are very very reasonably priced.A lot of keyboards come with a package deal that includes the stand. DO NOT BE FOOLED BY THIS. the stand is not designed for that particular piano and will not hold the piano right, always always always buy them separate, and pay the slightly more price for the right stand. You will regret it later if you don't.#5) weighted keys?Weighted keys allow you to play fast, lightly tap key and still get sound, never buy non weighted, it will feel, sound and act like plastic. Semi weighted is the least you should settle for, full weight is best. This piano is not full weight, and while it feels like a piano when touching the keys, and you can play songs really fast without loosing performance, you loose some of the notes when you run your hand down all the keys real fast from high to lowWhat to expect from this piano...Expect to be disappointed in the volume, it will shock you how quite it is. I can hear myself play just fine, I can hear someone playing from anywhere in the room just fine, and I can hear them play just fine from the other room, none the less, it is noticeably and slightly bothersome how quite it is. If all you ever do is play at home and entertain in your living room it will do just fine. If for any reason you want it louder you can buy a amplifier later (even if you buy this piano and an amplifier, together you are still paying less than if you bought a more expensive 88 key, and you will get a way more riching sound out of the amplifier than you will for a more expensive model of keyboard). You will be disappointed at first with the volume, but you will get used to it and realize that it is not as bothersome as you first thought. As an option you can get through your suckey old McDonald stage without annoying everyone in the house, while you save up for an amplifier, and than when you sound like a pro you can get an amplifier and show off like a pro.Over all experience with this piano-best priced 88 key keyboard I've ever seen-highest quality 88 keyboard that I've seen for under $600-best sound(not volume) 88 keyboard that I've heard for under $600-Quietest keyboard that I've ever heard over $100(without amplifier)-beautiful color, appearance, shine, sharp look-heavy, solid weight, built to last feel
The Williams Legato 88-Key Digital Piano is an outstanding deal!
January 17, 2015
I love this keyboard.First off, this is a long review. That is because I really want to help anyone with making a decision on this and I enjoy being thorough, fair and honest in my reviews. To give myself some credibility in this review, I am a pianist and would put myself somewhere around the intermediate level. I've had maybe a couple months of lessons (around 5 years ago) and the rest has been self taught. I always practiced on a baby grand Baldwin piano that my mother owns. Now that I have been out of the house for years and only playing upon visits or where I could find an open piano, I decided I needed to invest in a piano.Pianos themselves are far too expensive and big for what I can afford now so a keyboard was the right choice for me. However... I hated keyboards. I hated the plastic keys and more than that I hated only having SOME of the keys. So I did a lot of research online to find if there was anything I could afford and be happy with. And then I found the Williams Legato keyboard and it had 88 keys! Not only that, the keys were semi-weighted and velocity sensitive (I could play soft, loud and anywhere in between). Then I see that the listed price is only around $200 while some other keyboards with 56-61 keys were going for roughly the same price. Then I read some reviews, listened to it's sound on YouTube and that basically did it for me. Other keyboards do have other features such as more sounds and other fun things you can do like recording, changing pitch, playing with background beat and so on. However, I don't care much for those although I know I would have fun with them. The Williams Legato 88-Key Digital Pianos is an outstanding piano. I've owned it for a while now and I couldn't be happier. It has all the keys I wanted ( which I needed to play some of the songs I know) and although any keyboard like this will never be the same as a real piano - I am very happy with it. The weighted, force sensitive keys added that satisfaction that I really wanted. The quality of sound from the piano does seem to vary based on opinion; I will agree that it does not get very loud but I think the quality of the sound itself is excellent. The velocity sensitive feature works really well and makes the difference between playing a song and playing a song with feeling. Being able to use headphones is so great in many ways. I do have fun with the few different sounds it has (Electric Piano, Organ, Synth, Bass) and being able to layer them. However, all I really care about is sounding like a piano and I think it certainly does its part. I wanted a keyboard that sounds and feels like a really piano and I am very satisfied.I am not very savvy with other aspects of electronic music such as hooking it up to an amplifier, hooking it up to your computer for recording..etc. This keyboard has those features but I'm not a reliable source for the quality it has in those areas.I am really really disappointed in some of these other reviews that docked off so many stars because it didn't come with a power cord... I understand that frustration and I myself find it very odd and upsetting that it doesn't come with it's own source of power. But if you check anywhere else (williamspiano.com musiciansfriend.com, guitarcenter.com) you will see that it is listed there. So I don't want that to be a surprise for anyone - I knew about it myself before I bought it.I did not buy the essentials pack for a couple reasons:1. I already have high quality headphones.2. I was almost positive that the sustain pedal would be cheap.3. I was confident I could find the power cord elsewhere and for way cheap.I bought the M-Audio SP-2 Sustain Pedal which I absolutely love. (You can read my review for that)The power cord I found at the DI (Deseret Industries) which is basically like a Goodwill. So they have old electronics parts and I found a 12VDC power adapter that was the right size and it was $2. (I still use it, it works and haven't had any issues yet. You can't just go out and get a power cord. You have to be very careful about finding the right one. Maybe I'll add insight and details on that at a later time. Research AC-DC adapters and polarity if you wish to understand.)I bought a 1/8" to 1/4" stereo adapter for my headphones and the piano sounds AMAZING with my headphones. That feature in general is amazing cause now people don't have to get all "annoyed" when I practice because they won't here it - only me and it allows me to feel immersed in the sound. You can find that adapter at RadioShack (where I got mine) for $5 and here on amazon where you might get it for a dollar cheaper.I was also able to find one of those foldable piano stands at the same DI (Deseret Industries) for $3. (I would consider that extremely lucky - it was the only one in the store)However..... finding all of these separately was a bit of a hassle. So if your not interested in the hassle, the Essentials Pack sounds good enough but I am confident, judging by reviews on it, that what I have is higher quality. Finding good quality, longer lasting products is very important to me but whether or not that matters to you is for you to decide. If you are looking for an electric keyboard that's overall cheaper and has other fun features maybe Casio would be the way to go. If you want a good keyboard to practice on for the real thing, this is the way to go!I really hope this review helps - I'd be so happy to answer questions.

Good keyboard for the price
October 7, 2017
Great keyboard, nice price. I played piano years ago and recently started up again. I don't have the room nor am I willing to spend the money for a real piano, so this keyboard fit my needs (and beyond) nicely. I still haven't used all of the many features. Sometimes it sounds a little soft to me but that could be user error, I still haven't figured that one out. I don't want to blast anyone out of the house, but I would like it to be at a normal volume. I can hook it up to a small external speaker, so that solves my issue for now.
Great product for beginning users

Yamaha 76-Key Portable Grand PianoIf you are a veteran at playing the keyboard or piano you may want to look into other options. However, if you are on a tight budget and are looking to start playing as a hobby than you found your product. When shopping for a keyboard as a beginner, one tends to look at price as the most important factor. As a beginner you aren't looking to spend a lot of money on something you don't know if you will be interested in for long or even be good at. For this reason this keyboard is by far the best choice you could make. The Yamaha YPG-235 provides quality at an affordable rate. There are other factors you consider when buying items to begin a hobby though. While you are buying a cheaper item, you don't want to see the price reflected in the merchandise. You want to look at your keyboard like it cost you a couple thousand dollars, not a couple hundred dollars. This item hits on quality really well. While the item is not perfect, it is more than to be expected for the price. It has many different tones and instrumental sounds that allows you to explorer your creativity. You are also able to hook this keyboard up to your computer to record what you play in order to track your progress or even make your own music. The volume is spectacular, the stand is stable, and the headphones in this bundle are a really nice touch in case you are trying to be courteous to others around you or just focus better that way. The stand has three levels it can be set at allowing users to be of a variety of builds. This product should be recommended to all beginners of any age. If you want to see your child really cling to a hobby, this keyboard could help. The only reason for the lack of the fifth star is because sometimes you have to press the keys really hard and it can alter what you are used to if you have played other pianos or keyboards. If there was an option for 4.5 stars I would have given it because of all of the other positive attractions to this keyboard bundle. This is an item that has and will continue to bring families together.
Good for Intermediate Players!!!
January 21, 2015
Bought this for my 16 y.o. daughter for Christmas. It was easy to put together and plays well. As some other reviewers have stated, neither the stand nor the headphones are worth putting in the same package as the keyboard, but she uses her own choice headphones, so on that note, we're still fine with the total package. She's been using the keyboard for about a month, and so far, we've had no issues. I would recommend this electronic keyboard for an intermediate learner. It's probably good for beginners too, but if you're a professional keyboardist, go for the Casio Privia models, if you can afford it. No complaints on this model.
Good quality for the price
April 22, 2014
The keys have a good weight to them. There's a lot of different voices to choose from and they all sound very realistic. I purchased this to use for performing at different church events. I sometimes look at chords on my phone while playing and I discovered that it causes some feedback from the left speaker anytime my phone is near it. Strange, but not really a problem.I gave it four stars instead of five due to the sound of the piano. Although it does sound good, I know there are so many other better sounding pianos out there, so it's gets a four for the timbre of the instrument. Overall it was well worth purchasing.
More than sufficient for beginners
April 1, 2014
I've been using this keyboard to learn how to play piano (started from scratch). It's been 4-5 months now.I find it most adequate for my utmost beginner level. The 76 touch sensitive keys are good enough and plentiful. The sound is very good and can reach quite a high volume.Only downside is that I have the vague sense that some keys are louder than others. This is not THAT annoying for learning purposes.I suppose that in a year or so, when / if I will have become more proficient, I'll switch to a 88 key yamahaThe provided headphones are good enough. They have not broken down.
Great for the cost.

Sounds great, sounds like a keyboard and not a piano to me. The headphone jack is located in the back. I wish it were located somewhere else for easier access. The screen is small and hard to see but it shows you what key you are pressing and where the note sits on a sheet of music, I thought that was cool. The keys are touch sensitive so depending on how hard or soft you hit the key, the volume adjusts. The weighted keys feel spring loaded, but the tension is varied depending on how high or low you go when pressing the keys to simulate a real piano. It also comes with a music stand, so when you're playing, you have a place to set your sheet music. The stand itself, it does seem a little wobbly, maybe it's my carpet. I'm not to familiar with stands to have much of a reference. But I do know what every time I want to adjust the height, I have to fully remove the keyboard and hope the spring loaded knob will work as it should. The knob just holds a pin in place and it wasn't very easy to handle.I received my shipment on time. The box was in excellent condition. The keyboard had 1 scuff mark but it came off.The stand was un harmed. The headphones on the other hand were completely shattered. I opened the plastic bag and tiny little plastic pieces of shrapnel showered to the floor. The right ear piece was destroyed and I have no idea why.Edit: I had a hard time finding customer support to talk about compensation for the broken headphones. But, when I did finally find the online chat feature, a representative was very helpful and addressed my concern. I am very pleased with the whole experience. I was a bit bummed out yesterday but today I'm happy again. Good customer support can fix so much and that's what I got.

It's pretty good except...
July 31, 2017
For it's price, the sound is great. I don't really use the extra sound options like "organ" and "bass", but I am a fan of its normal piano sound. The Williams Legato is really more closer to a keyboard than a piano; the keys are not really weighted and feels moderately light, plastic-y, and springy. As a light hobbyist, this is fine with me. I tend to play it often with headphones on for late practicing, and the quality of sound is just as great on them as well (although it may vary by headphones). One warning for potential buyers: DO NOT screw the piano on a stand. I used a ChromaCast stand with locking straps, where the straps can be screwed on to the keyboard for extra stability. What I found was when the screws are tightened on the keyboard, the keys above the screw holes will not make any sound (B and B-flat 1&6). At first, I thought the keyboard was damaged and came very close to returning them. I coincidentally found it fully functional again after unscrewing the keyboard from the stand. I didn't particularly need the extra stability and just decided to keep it. However, if you do need this keyboard ever fastened on something, or don't like the idea of the slightest defect, then I would not recommend that you buy this product. I added a video showing what I mean.
Great keyboard, and not a bad price!
June 16, 2017
Really liked this keyboard! It came in perfect condition. One thing though, is that the keys are not as much weighed as you would think so, it is like a normal keyboard.. Also, it doesn't come with a charging cable, you must buy it separately or use batteries, but that is not a big deal, you can just buy them online or any music store. The sound is pretty good, it doesn't go super loud, but there is a place to adapt a speaker to.It does come with a little stand connected to it though, for you to put your music ect.. Also has a metronome, which I loved! Really simple to use with not a lot of buttons to confuse you. If you want a keyboard that has 88 keys to mostly just practice with, then it is this one. It is a pretty good price and it is very simple to use and works really well.
Not bad, and it's inexpensive.

I is compact enough to fit in my apartment, and with headphones, really doesn't have bad sound, but when compared with more high end keyboards, does leave a lot to be desired. However, I love that it has 88 weighted keys, and like I said, sounds just fine with headphones. I wouldn't use this in public, but it's fine for at-home use.
Williams Legato 88-key Digital Keyboard

The keyboard suits my needs as a new player. It is solidly made and the price was a great deal (I bought it around the Thanksgiving "Black Friday time-frame). The only thing is the volume has to be on the max setting to hear the keys well. At first I thought the lower register keys were not working until I turned the volume up to the max. I liked the free shipping. It arrived very quickly.
The piano is great. Note a few things
October 6, 2016
The piano is great. Note a few things. You have to buy the power cord separately and the headphone jack is for a large plug (unsure of the technical term) not a 3.5mm plug. I didn't mind the latter as I already had a converter but the former was a bit of a pain. Had to order the power cord after it arrived so I couldn't really play for a few days.Other than that the piano is great. My son and I live in an apartment and it is the perfect size/weight and the low volume needed for those environments. I wish it had weighted keys but for a beginner budget piano it's great!
Play that funky music white boy

Sound quality isn't as grand as i thought it would be but you can add a speaker via the auxiliary cord. The keys them self seem of good quality. Only downside is that you need to spend additional money to buy the power supply and the foot pedal.

I had always been very pleased with the Yamaha keyboards I had used during my forty-year music teaching career. The keyboard was well packaged and the stand was easy to assemble. When I sat down to play, I was surprised that there was a decided 'click' on the action of one note (c#2). This will not be a major problem for me, as I will not be playing it in public. I purchased it so I would have a practice instrument in my apartment for my church performances. I just didn't feel like messing with a return for one note. But I was surprised. I suppose whatever is supposed to cushion the key action came unglued or whatever.
not cool

but for the money we spent this did not come with adapter of any sorts....i had to buy that extra.....not cool man
What, no power?
December 21, 2015
Ack! Heads up if you're buying this for a holiday gift - they ship directly in it's box, with pics of the item all over it. Had my kid seen this, it would have ruined their Christmas present surprise. Box also was very shoddily taped, open half way on top - so hopefully everything is intact. So it seems to work fine ... or at least it would if it came with a POWER CORD. If you don't include a cheap power cord at least TELL us! Nothing like getting a gift for Christmas that you can't play.
Great keyboard, useless accessories.
July 2, 2015
Just got this as a gift for my daughter the keyboard seems great and just as described. However, the stand is pretty useless. it's flimsy and doesn't attach to the keyboard. The headphones are low quality, won't stay adjusted properly and probably won't last long.Don't buy the packaged version just get the keyboard and find better quality accessories.
Fantastic sound quality for the price but one key did not work
May 9, 2014
I bought this for my 10 year daughter who just started taking piano lessons. I also started playing recently and now seem to be on it more than my daughter. The sound quality is excellent. It's much richer and sounds more like a grand piano compared to the Casio LK-165 and Casio WK-225. But I gave it three stars because one of the keys did not work; no sound was produced when it was depressed. Also, the feel of the keys are very soft; like an organ. Since my daughter's piano instructor recommended weighted keys, we returned this model and upgraded to the Yamaha P-35B digital piano. It's just about double in price compared to the Yamaha YPG-235, but it may be worth it if you are searching for the "feel" and "sound" of an acoustic piano.
Check all the keys
November 30, 2012
I had eagerly awaited the arrival of my YPG-235 keyboard with great expectations. Unfortunately, after setting it up, I found that a bank of keys, roughly one octave, were not tuned correctly to a "piano" - rather, they rang like a bell and made me jump out of my seat when I played them. The notes were so irritatingly piercing that I couldn't bear it. In addition, the C above middle C sounded dull. All the other keys were fine and when played gave a very rich tone. I know this was probably just a lemon, but rather than chancing a replacement keyboard also having something wrong with it, I decided just to return this one for a refund. I live in Hawaii and the shipping was outrageous, but Amazon refunded me fully, including the shipping! So while I wasn't pleased getting a lemon, I'm very pleased with Amazon's customer service.

Power cord accessory no longer works, but it works with batteries
June 29, 2017
Updating my original review, which was 1 star--changing it to 3 stars. We thought it was completely dead, but it works with batteries, but not the electric adapter cord (we purchased this separately with headphones in a kit made by the same company for this keyboard). It's good for a beginner to get started, but they will soon need a higher quality instrument.
Okay keyboard... not what I expected
May 11, 2017
It's just a okay keyboard... the sounds are so "fake". I have done several researches and people who submitted the video using this keyboard must be using an additional speaker. Also, there are several keys and you need to push really hard so they can make a louder sound. The keys also make a plastic sound when you play with it, not what I expected from this keyboard. Kind of disappointed.
Three Stars

There were a few keys that didn't work. I ended up returning it.
Great inexpensive keyboard
July 26, 2016
For its price, this is a great 88 key keyboard that sounds great when plugged into headphones or a sound system. The 2 speakers are not the greatest and the reason for 3 stars is that my keyboard actually came with one of them damaged with a buzzing sound while playing. Nothing headphones or speakers couldn't solve though.I highly recommend getting the adapter as it does not come with the keyboard or batteries (if you want to go that route) and also a footpedal as it has the ability to utilize one.
Purchase the Williams Allegro 2 instead.
July 18, 2016
As a mid-beginner pianist looking for an instrument to practice on, I purchased this keyboard after seeing the many good reviews about it. To cut to the chase, I returned it back to the seller today and purchased the Williams Allegro 2 model instead.I was impressed with how many keys this keyboard has, but the fact that it is only semi-weighted was the big dealbreaker for me. After only 20-30 minutes of practicing, I noticed my hands cramping from trying to get a better response from the keys. What "semi-weighted" means is that there are springs in the back of the keys that offer resistance against you pressing them, but they do next to nothing to help with good technique. I used this instrument to practice between lessons, but my instructor made a comment that I was repeatedly playing too soft since I wasn't used to playing on the weighted keys on his piano. I didn't want this to develop into a bad habit, so I had no choice but to choose a different instrument. To add to that, one of the springs was making an awful sound when I pressed B below middle C. This is a common note to play, so I became aggravated quickly. At the end of the day, there's only one way to know if an instrument is right for you -- try it out. I tried this instrument out and it just wasn't worth it for me.
good piano and good sound
April 21, 2016
good piano and good sound. volume is quite low but you get used to it and it turns out okay lol. might return it soon and get a replacement because the 2nd to the last "B" keywont work whenever i play it and some of the keys wont even play unless i press harder. not sure if this is normal for everyone or it's just me

Unexpected disappointment.
June 14, 2017
Very disappointed after a few weeks. Sounded good at first, but then I compared side by side with my Casio(wk3300). The sounds are much better on the Casio which really surprised me. Planning to sell the Yamaha.
... it to the external amplifier the sound quality was poor (kind of muddy)
March 3, 2017
I returned it for the sound delivered by the built-in speakers was not loud enough but if I connected it to the external amplifier the sound quality was poor (kind of muddy).
Product came damaged - more than described condition for warehouse deal
April 9, 2016
Great sound, but it came severely damaged on the corner, maybe because it was a warehouse deal. It was damaged too much. I decided to keep it because it works okay.
UNHAPPY
February 12, 2016
I like the keyboard, but the soft touch is difficult for me, as I have early onset Rheumatoid Arthritis. You really have to bang down the keys. I wish there was a way to turn down the sensitivity. The headphones are cheap.Main problem:The main reason that I bought this product is because it came with a stand. Stand was missing all EIGHT screws that it needs to be put together. Now, I have nowhere to put the keyboard because the stand is worthless. I am VERY unhappy. The boxes were all sealed. I had a sealed plastic bag with one bolt and an allen wrench...no screws. wtf?I believe I purchased this as a lightening deal and I'm starting to wonder about Prime and if it is really worth it If I am going to be sent defective products. I NEEDED a stand and that is why I bought this package.Keyboard is okay, much cooler than the one I am replacing, headphones are cheap, stand is worthless because it can't be put together. Save some money and don't buy the packaged set.
returned, keys are not weighted
April 13, 2014
definitely a confusing buying/searching experience for keyboards with weighted keys. this looked like it was going to be one, but i was very disappointed and returned it.
Disappointing - not comparable to a real piano at all
December 8, 2013
I was incredibly disappointed. We shopped for months looking for just the right electronic keyboard with "weighted" keys under $500. We bought it and within a month, the display quit working and just shows bright blue. You can't read the words to make the many selections available with this piano. Luckily, my children remembered the "code" for regular piano play, so they can use it for that. Tried to return it but we were just outside the warranty period and it wasn't returnable. BEWARE the "graded-action" keys are not "weighted" keys and it does click when you play. Also, it is not comparable to a regular piano at all. My daughter needs a new one already so she can practice on a "real" piano for performances.

Not pleased at all
March 3, 2017
Not pleased at all. I have had semi-weighed keys before and this piano it makes it very hard to actually play unless you REALLY press down on the keys. When trying to play legato you don't have time to slam on every key, you just need to touch and graze. If you touch and graze on this piano it will not pick up the sound, and some of the keys even when you do press don't like to be heard. Very aggravating.
Almost unusable without a VST.
January 29, 2017
You get what you pay for. This is one of the cheapest 88 key keyboards on Amazon and the quality shows.- Keys have horrible feel. Playing softly is very hard with the poor weighting.- Black keys have heavier weighting than the white keys- Playing quiet makes everything sound electric and fake, very poor quiet sampling- 0 bass in the speakers, the lower end of the keyboard sounds bad.I play it using my Mac as a VST, giving me good audio. Doesn't fix the poor feel, but the audio is better at least. If you plan on using this keyboard without a VST, look elsewhere. It's terrible.

August 7, 2016
I have a few things to say about this digital keyboard. First of all, it does have 88 keys(sometimes it can be a lie), but then after a month or 2, a few of my keys are making thumping noises for no reason. I checked the inside and there was a few pieces of debris inside the key but it still makes the thumping noises and hiring someone to fix it can be a drag and a waste of money. I think getting something else would be better.
I was very disappointed with the sound quality of this piano
March 21, 2016
I was very disappointed with the sound quality of this piano, but I suppose that's what you get for such a low price. I also own the William's Overture and love the sound of it, but I needed something portable. Would not recommend this item.
You get what you pay for
December 5, 2015
Cons: It's okay. Nothing like a piano. It doesn't play soft sounds. When I press on the keys too lightly, it doesn't play. Just medium or loud sounds. It just doesn't feel right. More velocity-sensitive than pressure-sensitive. Sound is very quiet. It's fine for me - apartment living - but others might need an amp. There are also only five sounds, so definitely an electric piano, NOT a keyboard. I also have no idea why they thought it was acceptable to leave out the power cord. Greedy, cheap, unacceptable. It gives me a bad feeling towards the company. Would have given 3 stars if not for this.Pros: It would be decently priced if it came with a power cord, has MIDI in and out, sustain pedal capable, all keys work, comes with a thing to set your music on (but not a power cord?!!!)
Stiff, sporadically responsive keys
November 14, 2015
I purchased this keyboard because I was looking for a full keyboard and the ability to play dynamics but was not ready for the investment of an actual piano. I was very excited when it arrived because it looks beautiful. I tested out a few notes and was pleased with the quality of sound as well. It may not be great for a concert hall, but for my living room, it was perfect. When I got down to playing, however, I was frustrated to discover that the keys were extremely stiff. Also, there's a certain point when playing softly at which the sound disappears completely. I would try to play a soft song and half the notes would go missing. The same happened if I tried to play quickly. I wanted so much to like this piano that I worked at it for several hours, trying to see if the stiffness could be worked out. It couldn't and I returned the piano. I did receive a full refund but I had to pay the shipping to send it back. Though this keyboard looks nice and sounds good when the notes come through, I sadly do not recommend it.

I haven't tried it because it didn't come with a power adapter! That extremely annoying and cheap.
We purchased separated the cord recommended and it does not plug well in it
February 21, 2015
This keyboard does not bring plug with it. We purchased separated the cord recommended and it does not plug well in it, produces a false contact. The hole in the keyboad is too short and cords do not go well on the whole. it has been impossible to play since we purchased it.I encourage you to not buy any keyboard/ electric piano on internet. The plugin problem made us impossible to play from day 1.Total waste of money, stay away.
I am not a pro musician just like to beat on the keys when I need to ...
August 28, 2014
Got this back in January. Its suited my pitiful needs well. I am not a pro musician just like to beat on the keys when I need to recharge my mood. This unit served me well in that regard. I had no issues with sound, tone, timber or even the cheap plastic feel of it. It does but who cares. With 88 keys I could stretch out my left hand. Couldn't with my very old dgx235. Which is exactly why I bought another yamaha. I have beat the crap out of the 235 for 6 or 7 years... it's still working! Have to play it now in fact. So I got this... It was ok not great but high on the Ok side though. Until a month ago, when it just stopped working. Pay more to fix something a couple months old is just insane. Yamaha dropped the ball with this model and from what I am reading... they know and don't give a damn.
The "Grand Piano" voice lets this keyboard down
August 25, 2013
Update: This part of the review comes weeks after the latter text. I now give the Yamaha piano 5 stars. If you hit the function button and scroll to the "Master EQ" and then choose option 3 "Headphones" the sound no longer sounds so soft or "muffled" (as I have it below). The sound is clear and louder. The keyboard is a good keyboard, with more than 1 grand piano voice, and many songs, features that let you record multiple tracks, and learn modes. The only problem is -- none of it is intuitive. So please read the manual thoroughly. You are getting a good keyboard at a good price with the Yamaha.----Older review:This keyboard gets everything done right, basically, except for the main voice - which is the grand piano. The grand piano is voice #1 and there's even a quick switch button that looks like a grand piano on the keyboard; you press that button to jump back to voice 1. But why it's lacking is its sound clarity. The mechanics and 76 keys that this Yamaha gives is good for beginners and can emulate a real piano well enough, but the problem with the sound of the main "grand piano" is that it's too muffled. Every other voice sounds clear and loud, but then you switch to the grand piano and it would seem like you've got the soft, muted, "una corda" pedal going on a real piano. The sound is lacking. It makes you feel like you are half-breathing, and in the long run you'll want to purchase a different keyboard.I've owned this keyboard for 2 years now and have felt this way about it since the first week I've owned it. It's made me want to buy another, better piano. Immediately that tells me -and should tell you- that the purchase was a bad one.I'd recommend searching for other keyboards in the price range. If there's a way to improve the sound of this keyboard, please comment here.
Deceived!
January 1, 2013
I ordered this product believing it came with the survival kit pictured very prominently in thier ad. However the keyboard arrived without the kit. This picture was obviously inserted to deceive people into buying thier product. I would never have ordered this if the items did not come together, since other companies were also offering their keyboards with a survival kit.Upon further investigation I found other customers complaining about the same thing. Why would AMAZON allow them to continue selling if they are not providing the products shown in thier image? Buying in cyberspace is done in good faith which is why we pay up front before even seeing the actual product. This is very poor on Amazons part. :(

Only 1 year warranty and 1 key went out at 22 months after I bought it. The retailer was not helpful at all.
Poor quality, not up to expectation
May 16, 2017
I was really excited to get a digital piano with such good reviews, especially for such a low price. However, once I received it, I was extremely disappointed with the quality of the keys. I grew up taking piano lessons and have never used a digital piano before, so perhaps my expectations were too high. However, the weighting on the black keys is much heavier than the white, so it's very difficult to get a consistent sound output from the black and white keys, which makes it very frustrating to play with. I kept it thinking that I would get used to it, but I haven't even been able to bring myself to play it in the two months that I've had it because of how frustrating and disappointing it is.It would be a good starter piano for someone who has never played before, but for someone who has experience playing on real pianos, it'll be very disappointing. I will most likely be selling this - it's just taking up space in my living room now.

Better at marketing than being informative
December 27, 2016
Wish they would try harder to announce that it doesn't come with a power supply. And when I call to say that I would have appreciated a more obvious expression of this fact, please do not tell me that it is in the product description; I'm sure it is, I am merely asking that you make it more obvious. Keyboard itself has a very untrue feel although not as bad as a Wal-Mart buy, and should function as something as an elementary level instrument. Williams, I remember when you used to be good.
