) I somehow lost our 10 dollar drugstore version of this and and am happy I did
September 16, 2016
Sitting on my couch with my trusty swat by my side... It has been months of swatting flies that are poop born and ready for mating and food. (We have raccoons that live on our hill...) I somehow lost our 10 dollar drugstore version of this and and am happy I did. The snap and pop from the swing was satisfying, the bug is dead and I can say this thing packs a punch that was lacking in my previous run of the mill swatters. If you want a satisfying swat that is a sure kill and included batteries... Get this guy. They have given the effort needed to be a success in the fly killing world. Worth the extra cash for sure :)
Buy The Executioner. Works GREAT! Makes killing those annoying flies fun!
June 23, 2016
Love my new weapon. I live in a basement apartment and the building's garbage cans are right outside my door. I'm not exaggerating when I say that I run in and out of my place through at least 30 flies. The swarm is so bad that I make sure my mouth is shut tight because I'm afraid one will fly in there. I just got this today and waged a fly massacre around the cans. I looked like a crazy person to everyone who walked by as I was violently swinging a squash racquet at what seemed to be an imaginary, invisible foe, but it was worth it. I could smell the carnage. It was intense.I took about half out, the other half fled. I then came back about 30 minutes later and finished the job. Felt like a super hero. Admit it, nothing feels better than killing an annoying fly. The Executioner makes it 100x more fun than when I used to swing my hat at one, hit it halfway across the room only to see it momentarily take a knee, collect itself, then take flight again to fly at my eyeball. I've gone back to the cans two more times tonight and was disappointed (?really dude?) to see that there were no flies to fry.If you're on the fence don't be. Get this. Have fun. Kill bugs. The only thing better than this would be having pet bats or something and the idea of that horrifies me. Now you've created your own bat problem. No bueno. Mucho guano. Buy the Executioner.
Zap bugs into oblivion
August 24, 2015
This product is GREAT! I was a little concerned that it might be over priced but after handling it I am very happy with my purchase. The racket is very sturdy, I haven't noticed any flexing when swinging it around. This swatter packs a wallop too, it literally blew the flies up (seriously they exploded). It was like they were hit with a bolt of lightning. The bigger the bug the less likely it is to cause them to pop like a firecracker but it will at the very least stun them long enough to be disposed of. anything larger than a regular sized house fly will probably need a longer zap, if they don't pop when you hit them, just keep zapping them until they smoke...it will stink but it the best way to be sure they are dead. I would definitely recommend this product to a friend.
Great For My Moth Problem!
March 15, 2015
I had the choice of paying approximately $13.00 for some moth bait that was essentially sticky paper with a supposed chemical to attract those winged fiends, or $20 for this. Boy am I glad I went for The Executioner. Haven't written a review in a long time, but I feel such gratitude towards this glorified tennis racket that I just had to share. I easily (and enjoyably) killed maybe 8 moths that first day. That was a low number, but they were staying out of sight. The next day I probably got 18, then 10, then 12 and so forth. The thing about The Executioner is that once you pick it up and zap something. you'll find yourself walking around the house trying to find more suckers to take out. It's only been a couple weeks, but my home is almost moth free. And when I see a moth nowadays, I'm not automatically annoyed like I used to be; I'm actually excited to use my new toy. I love showing it off. I mean, how else can you get your guests to help you with a pest problem? Make it a game!
quality product. Very effective.
July 20, 2014
I ordered my parents three of these for their cottage in northern Wisconsin. Land of many bugs. They have had many bug zapping racquets in the past, and some were total failures. Others have been good. Very hit or miss. This one they LOVE. They have zapped themselves with it a couple times, but they feel that not having the "protective grille" over the active layer of the racquet is what makes this work so much better. They just have to take care with it. They are happy with the quality of the construction. It feels very solid. I think some of the people writing reviews may have defective models. If it does not instantly fry a bug the size of a deer fly, there is something wrong with yours. The really big flies or wasps will sometimes be "tazed" by this thing rather than instantly killed. Overall a very good product for the money. The lesser ones are just cheap junk.
A shocking success
August 28, 2012
Living right across from a horse farm has its down side. I am convinced that we get way more than our fair share of flies around here. Until now, I saw this as strictly as a bummer. With my new toy I now like flies even better than lightning bugs. With this gizmo the flies produce a much more impressive electric blue flash that puts the old LB neon glow to shame. Plus the there is that resounding snap as they are dispatched to the plasma. Who has time to wait for a fly to decide to light on a priceless vase before you can smite it with an old time swatter. Now you can just take a swipe at it with the Executioner and zap that pest right out of thin air.Seriously, this is really a better way to rid yourself of those irritating and disease ridden pests. Aerosol sprays can trigger asthma attacks, and as much as I detest files I really don't enjoy watching them in their death throes as they spin out in the ultimate bad trip. While it may be satisfying to know you are still quick enough to nail them with your bare hand that quickly loses its appeal after the first messy success. Traditional flyswatters seem to be designed to weaponize fly guts. You really didn't think that all that mess remained on the business side of the mesh did you? With a 7" x 8" kill zone, your new sporting good wills make it easy to instantly incinerate the pests. In case you get too enthusiastic, its tennis racket shape is created from sturdy plastic so it is not likely to break off in your hand, unless off course you try and use it like a retro swatter. At first I was not sure if it would be easier to nail a fly on the fly than to ambush it while it is resting. No doubt about it. After a swipe or two you will never go back to the old way. You will quickly develop the technique of placing the zapper in the path of the fly's escape route. It is only deadly when it's powered on by pressing a normally of switch (button), so you don't have to worry if your kitten sniffs it or anything like that.No time to write more. I have got to go leave the back door open....running out of flies really quick.

The handle rusted a little after a few months but this is still working and adds a little blue light to my patio!
Powerful beats, bugs beware. Need accessories.
December 21, 2015
This is an amazingly sturdy (and quite big) unit that does what it advertises well, with the right setup.

You have to buy an extension cord and a dual/dawn timer - otherwise this product is not going to be as good. Why? The cord it comes with is short, so good luck using it. Two, without the timer, you'll have to either have it on at all times (electricity waster) or remember to turn T on everyday (unlikely). You also need something to elevate it. All of these you can get on Amazon for cheap.

One minor complain - have had this out in the rain and it had not short circuited yet. But I wish there were some way to make it weather proof so j never need to worry about it, but maybe that is asking for too much!
Perfect bug zapper lets you draw bugs AWAY from the house.
October 6, 2015
This is great. I spiked it to the ground in the wood line and left it alone.
Not having to plug it in keeps tacky looking zappers from dangling off of the house and makes sure that out aren't drawing bugs toward you.

This thing is always lit up all night and seems to be doing its job nicely.

I definitely recommend.
The NK63 solar powered bug zapper is giving me mosquito-free outdoor living.
August 4, 2015
NK63 Solar-Powered UV Bug Zapper provides very good customer service and was very responsive. I recently received the new improved NK63 solar powered UV bug zapper and so far, my backyard has been mosquito free. It seems that this year's model is more powerful and effective than a previous one I had. It has been a lifestyle changer for me because this summer I am spending much more time in my backyard, whereas last year, once the sun went down, I was being bitten up by mosquitos. It's especially important to me because of the Zika threat. So far, I am pleased with the product.
Poor mosquitoes, didn't know what hit them!
June 14, 2015
I received the device promptly, but in a state of unintended disassembly. The delivery guys can be a little rough with packages but not to worry. I had fun putting it back together and it worked like a charm. Those poor mosquitoes, they didn't know what hit them! There has been a noticeable drop in the pest population. That little brush helps keep it clean. I live in Arizona and solar devices work well here. Family and friends are waiting for my test period and have expressed interest in it. The device is a good idea but you might want to get better packaging for delivery. The five stars are for the device alone, I didn't feel like I should penalize it but I have to give the packaging a one star. I'm certain that other people might not be similarly amused as I was assembling it.

Works and worth the price easily
July 22, 2017
This in all reality isn't that practical. I noticed it works more effectively if you have the button pressed for a couple of seconds. It seems to need a brief moment to charge (if u put your ear near it you can hear it) but it is rather satisfying to see mosquitos get zapped.. It's even more satisfying to get people to touch it or zap people with it lol. I gave it for stars because it has a hard time zapping the small mosquitoes. But overall it was totally worth it
Fun way to rid yourself of bugs
May 3, 2017
Works great on smaller insects but the large Wood Bees seam to resist it well. My kids like the loud snapping noises but have a tough time taking out the pesky wood bees which is why I wanted it in the first place. Makes a small high pitched noise when on also. I have 2 and they both do it so I suspect that is normal.. I believe the insects can hear it as they fly away as soon as I turn it on. Need to be in mid swing before pressing the on button to avoid the pre mature scare off. All in all fun product and I would buy again.

This definitely works but i've used it on a couple of flies and it doesn't kill them. However it doesn't prevent them from flying. After being hit most flied are still crawling around. One of them had a seizure during which it kept spinning in circles for a while. So if you're concerned about cruelty to insects this may not be for you because its not a humane way to put them down. Its torture.
ZAP! POW! Gone.
May 28, 2015
I have a balcony that provides an amazing breeze when we leave the door open. Along with that breeze comes flies. The annoying ones that buzz by your ear. Swatting with magazines and anything else within our reach was useless. This fly swatter was my last resort before installing a screen door.Upon first use, the swatter gave a HUGE ZAP sound that gave me more anxiety than killing flies did... but once i got over that, my husband and I became very skilled fly swatters with the help of the executioner. It works. We dont mind leaving the balcony door open now because we have a quick solution to our pests.RIP flies.
It does what it says!.....and that's not always what you expect.

I had the Charcoal Companion Handheld Bug Zapper gifted to be a few months ago. I first thought it was a gag gift (and it sorta was), but it turned out to be much more useful than I expected. We don't have a huge fly problem in our house, but every now and then, someone leaves a door open and that pesky fly just wont find its way back out. The Charcoal did a fine job when it touched the flies (or spiders, moths, whatever). The keywords there are "WHEN IT TOUCHED". Let me tell you, this thing was not a fly SWATTER. It was so flimsy and poorly built, that when you tried to do a "swatting" motion, the thing would creek and break. The plastic was so thin that it would literally break due to the force of a swat. I had to wait til flies landed (which could take a long time sometimes) to attempt to zap them. One day I was trying to slowly swat a fly and the entire top half snapped off. So fast forward, I bought the Executioner.I bought this because I saw the reinforced design, and read reviews of better zapping power. The design so far has been an EXTREME improvement over the Charcoal. I can swing this thing like a bat or a real tennis racket and it wont make a sound or feel like its going to snap in half. Now onto the part you want to know, does it kill bugs? Well. Here's where my review title comes into play. It is a ZAPPER. It claims to zap bugs. And let me tell you, the sound and the spark are big and epic. The style is all there.Unfortunately, just zapping the bugs didnt always mean it killed them. If you swat at a fly, and see and hear the zap, and fly dropped somewhere that you cant find, the chances of the fly coming back in a few minutes is highly likely.I still have to wait for flies to land most of the time, so I can zap them, and then continue to zap them to ensure that they die (man that sounds evil). I did a test to make sure that there werent just more flies coming in. I trapped a fly in between my window and screen. I zapped it once and it fell down. I closed the window and waited for about 4 minutes, and sure enough, the fly was back on its feet. It wasn't flying, but it was crawling around still pretty dazed. If you are not as cruel as me, and you want to only zap and get rid of the fly (like throw it outside or something), then this product will suit you just fine. Zap it once. Put it in a napkin and toss it back outside. Simple. Buy this now! Its great! But if youre like me and prefer it dead first time, then maybe you need something else? I kept this product and gave it 4 stars because I love the build quality and dont find it a very big hassle to continue zapping the bugs. However, for other people looking for the "one and done" approach, maybe this isnt for you.I do recommend it though for anyone who wants flys to at least stop bothering them (whether permanently or otherwise).5 stars for build quality and zapping power, -1 star because....its a zapper, not an executioner
It works...but it has a lifespan, and that lifespan is measured by how often you use the thing.Much too expensive now!
July 6, 2014
Well, this thing worked well until after it was out of warranty. It made it about 15 months... I live near the Intracoastal Waterway in Florida, and have mangroves nearby, so 2 problems we deal with are mosquitoes and gnats. This thing works very well on both of those pests. On normal houseflies, it's about an 80% kill rate. Larger critters like the mud dauber wasps, etc., that infest the area are usually just stunned. But at least it gives you time to stomp them, or whatever. When the thing ultimately broke a couple of days ago (it has been working less than optimally for a while), I disassembled it (I'm a retired electronics engineer) to peek at the inside. What was physically broken was a tiny plastic tab that holds the back/bottom of the actuating switch from moving away from the pushbutton. This little plastic widget was broken--it is very small (less than an 1/8" in diameter) and it takes the full pressure of the button being pushed each time the unit is used. I found a suitable sized machine screw and epoxied it to take the place of the little plastic tab, which worked. However, the high voltage generator circuit seems to have failed, as well. I never bothered testing the unit before it failed, so I have no idea how much voltage it is supposed to generate, but now after my tinkering, It seems to be putting out about 515 volts, DC, on the wires in the grids. It still kills mosquitoes, but the satisfying 'CRACK!' is gone, so my guess is that the high voltage generator is probably a bit sick after so much use. Leaky capacitor, whatever. With all of that said, I'm going to buy another one simply because it does work well on the majority of the critters that annoy me around here.Just a couple of tips: get a real dpst pushbutton switch as a replacement for that jury rig spst switch with the add-on contacts. Anchor the switch better. That little post is bound to fail before the rest of the unit, and that means that the 20 bucks you charge is basically for that one failure-prone component.**************Update**************Well, this second unit lasted about the same amount of time. It failed with exactly the same problem as the first one. The electronic engineering is very good until they get to the operator's switch. At that point, it really and truly begins to draw a laboratory grade vacuum. They use a truly weird little flat piece of tin, which has a wire soldered to it, and that, is haphazardly mounted to what has to be the cheapest switch manufactured in the world. (A square hole punched to accommodate the square switch actuator.) When you push the button on the side you effectively close a dual pole single throw, spring loaded switch. The catch is that this switch is not attached to anything mechanically. So each time you push the button on the outside, you're pushing the whole switch...which would be okay if the switch was mounted in a way that kept the switch locked in position. BUT... there is nothing but a tiny plastic post that goes up between the electrical poles on the switch and after some number of pushes, it breaks. The pushing the switch does absolutely nothing. The high voltage supply doesn't get activated, and the switch just floats around. So I'm gonna order another one, because it does work... but I'm also going to try and come up with a small dpst switch from a reputable switch company and dremel tool the old mounting junk out of the way and put in a good switch.Bottom line: It works... but it has a lifespan, and that lifespan is measured by how often you use the thing. Each press of the actuator is a little bit of life gone.2nd Update today... as I got ready to buy another one of these, I noted that the price has almost doubled to $53.00. This is not worth $53.00. Not during this lifetime. It was a stretch at $29.00... There is, perhaps, 3 bucks worth of electronic components on one super-cheap circuit board, and maybe 2 or 3 bucks worth of plastic bits and pieces. If the switch had been completely reworked, and a good 'Micro' or 'Switchcraft' switch installed, it might be worth it, but... no. Just no. Not for something I know is going to fail. I'll try one of the other brands and see how that goes.

I love that it is solar

I love that it is solar, and that it actually works. I love that it holds a charge for quite awhile. Another solar one that I bought only held a charge for 3 hours, and only killed 1 bug over 4 days.

Works great. Convenient
June 29, 2016
Works great. Convenient, I can power it by charging thru direct sunlight for solar power or plug in an outlet to recharge. Which allows me to move and use it in several places even in locaitons where there is no outlet. Just wish that the openings were a little wider to kill the larger bugs, mosquitos.
I would recommend
August 4, 2015
I was amazed at how many bugs It killed, you definitely need to clean it once a week. I made sure to give it a full charge with the adapter before setting it out so that it would start with a full battery, and it's been working every night off solar power ever since. I will probably use this year round, and just turn on the led light function during winter. Does not have a large coverage area unless hung up at least 8 feet or more, and if you had a large patio/deck it would probably be best to put one on both end. Mine is above the front door on a small house in the mountains, and does just fine
Glad I purchased this
July 26, 2015
This is a nice addition to my backyard. Very easy to use. For charging it you can set it out in the sun or, if it's a cloudy day, you can plug it in. It is very light weight yet sturdy making it easy to transport for camping or any other evening outdoor activities. Previous zappers required ugly extension cords for power. Not this one. For cleaning, the bottom twists off and there is a little brush in there. Also like that it is a lantern as well. The LED lights are bright cool white. I've only recently started using it so will update my review after I've seen it in action for awhile.

Not Completely Useless
August 5, 2017
I had occasion to use this last night and it was not an executioner, it's more like a stunner. The first fly (medium size) that got into the house took 4 zaps and survived. I eventually got my old flyswatter to finish it off. The first zap, it flew into it on its own while I was looking around, and the next 2 zaps didn't stun it for long. After the 4th zap, it was stunned and immobile just long enough for me to kill it. A few minutes later another one got in and I hit this one twice. The second zap killed it and it was halfway through the wires, which is probably why it worked, it was in contact with the wires longer. I'd read the unfavorable reviews about ALL of the different zappers but decided to try it anyway. I can't recommend it but I'm not completely sorry I have it. It took considerably less time to kill these two flies than before because they stay airborne for so long. Being able to hit it mid-flight made a huge difference. The only caveat is that you have to be able to find it while stunned to finish it off. Overall seems sturdy and gives a really loud crack when struck.
novel and fun, not durable.
March 30, 2017
Keep in mind these are not meant to physically hit anything. Which proves challenging at times when chasing flies. We have purchased two of these and while they work, they are not durable and one did not last long. The novelty wore off quickly. They could be better engineered. All they would need to do really is make the rim of the zapping area to be a somewhat flexible neoprene or rubber that would encase a ribbon cable that the zapping bars were adhered to. This way if you did hit it on something, it isn't so likely to be broken. Probably much more durable that way, and also less frustrating when you are trying to get that annoying fly late at night!
Not as satisfying as others
October 21, 2016
It works well. I've killed large house flies, wasps, spiders dangling from the ceiling, and small fruit flies with this thing. My only complaint is that it lacks the very satisfying spark of electricity, and the accompanying audible pop that similar products produce. With the small fruit flies, they usually pass right between the rods unharmed. Fruit flies are magical creatures, that are only visible in your peripheral vision. Once you try and focus on them, they disappear. The lack of the audible electrical discharge on this device makes it impossible to know you got them, unless they fall dead on the table right in front of you. It easier with larger insects, because they cling to the grate, and singe. With the largest insects like wasps, they take a while to die. You've got to fry them for a bit. When you can smell them cooking, they are usually good and dead.
Not girlfriend safe
July 9, 2015
While I won't argue that it isn't effective at it's purpose, this device has one major design flaw. You see, there's no easy way to hang this from a hook like most flyswatters, which means that my girlfriend knocked it off the kitchen counter. Twice. The first time I opened it up and found that part of a battery compartment wall had snapped off so I super-glued it back and with the heavy duty gorilla glue stuff that's impact resistant. Didn't save it from a 2nd fall. The battery compartment wall is made up of awfully thin plastic that just can't stand up to impacts, it seems. So if the company ever goes about redesigning their product, I hope they thicken the internal support areas and add a handy hook. I'll be purchasing a replacement one soon as it seems this one is the best in its class but when I do, I'm debating wrapping the handle in bubble wrap until I can get around to designing a custom hook for it via my wood shop or 3d printer. Or maybe just hiding it from my girlfriend.
NSFW (Not Suitable For Wasps)
June 27, 2015
Either I've just met Rasputin reincarnated in wasp form, or this racket doesn't work quite as well as advertised. As I walked through my front doorway today, a little red jacket decided to anchor himself to my right shoulder and machine-gun sting me about 5 times. After squealing like a pig and running maniacally through my living room, I settled down a bit and tracked the little guy down on the tile floor of my living room. I'm not sure if he was snoozing in the afterglow or just rolling on his back with laughter, but he laid still enough for me to clobber him with a shoe. That was the end of that.OR SO I THOUGHT.Hours later, when I finally mustered the nerve to approach his corpse to dispose of it, he had VANISHED. I spent most of the rest of the day in fear, meticulously inspecting everything I touched and everywhere I stepped for fear of booby traps. Don't laugh, it has happened before. I finally spotted him clinging to a recessed spot on the interior molding of a window, probably fully understanding that I couldn't reach him there with another shoe. But, he was unaware that I owned... The Executioner.I removed the racket from my gun safe, loaded it with fresh AA batteries, and approached him cautiously. Holding the trigger down, I slid the racket into an awkward angle against the window, just tight enough to bring the electrodes in contact with his right wing. With a loud SNAP, he was blasted off the window trim and landed on a tabletop below. He'd obviously taken some injuries earlier from the shoe, but he still had enough hatred left in his soul to writhe about in circles. I seized the opportunity and pinned him to the table with the racket, still holding the button with extreme prejudice. The electric surges of the racket tossed him around like a Jiffy-Pop kernel, but he persevered. I kept on him, pop-zap-snapping electric blue until I began to smell the mephitic aroma of roasted wasp. For a few moments, he lay on his back with his legs curled to his chest, cockroach-style.But still, he wasn't done. I slowly lifted the racket, and, I crap you negative, he slowly turned his head to stare right into my eyes, and began to use the one measly stump of an appendage that he could still control to pull himself directly toward me. If he still had a fist, I'm very sure he would have shaken it with the threat of revenge. The racket, at least, had somewhat done its job. It had paralyzed him enough to where I could grab the old trusty shoe again and put the little sumbitch out of his misery. But, isn't The Executioner a tool meant to make pest killing a convenience? It certainly didn't accomplish that in this case. Mosquitos, maybe. Flies, perhaps. Wasps, definitely not. They're just too meaty and ungodly to be fazed by a novelty like this.P.S. May this little guy rest in peace. He was a worthy adversary.
Better titled "The Maimer"
June 13, 2013
While the electric blue flash and loud pop that you hear when connecting this racquet with a fly is primordially satisfying, the Executioner doesn't quite live up to its name. The first jolt merely dazes a fly (enough to knock it temporarily out of flight). Given enough time, the fly will amble around and eventually retake to the air, although flying a bit more erratically than the time before. Actually killing the fly requires repeated smacks with the racquet; each time leading to a slower, stupider fly. I've smacked the same fly as many as five times before finally killing it.If you don't mind picking up a recently electrified fly, as it lies about kicking and trying to regain the use of its wings, you can drop it on the Executioner and hold down the button until greeted with the undeniable smell of burning basicosta and a satisfying plume of smoke rising from its carcass. It's only then that the Executioner finally lives up to its name.

Nice lantern, but useless against fruit flies
December 17, 2015
As a solar-powered camping lantern, it's great, with a good amount of light. However, as a bug zapper, it is just about useless. I left it on in bug zapper mode in my kitchen (powered by the AC adapter) for two weeks after the fruit flies discovered the fruit basket in my kitchen. Despite being left on 24x7 in a part of the kitchen where the fruit flies liked to congregate, it killed only 5 flies in a month. Recommended as a lantern, but not as a bug zapper.

We bought these because they were solar and the lantern feature is great. However the bug zapper seldom works. We liked the size but were disappointed it did nothing for our bug problems in our yard. So we now use it mainly for the lantern which is nice and bright.

Pretty useless
October 20, 2017
Pretty uselsss, you can only swat flies in the air (as swatting them when they land would cause this thing to shatter into a million pieces). It doesnt actually kill flies. It should be called the “annoyer” not the “executioner”. I have only managed to knock one down so far and it was nearly back in the air before I could place the “executioner above it and let it fly itself into the thing a dozen times until it eventually died. This is perfect for little boys that like to burn ants with magnifying glasses. It’s sure to provide slow, tortuous deaths at the hands of sadistic people with lots of time on their hands...
I legitimately heard a fly laugh as it flew away, zapped twice

I live in an area in the Northeast where we're combating a foreign insect; the Spotted Latern Fly. I've found myself with a bit of an obsession combatting these invasive flies, to the point where I made this purchase.Very excited to take it for a test spin upon its arrival. Only to be fairly let down by the lack of zapping power this thing claims to have. These Lantern Flies can take 8-10 zaps to really incapacitate them.It wasn't until this evening that I found myself terribly disappointed in the performance of this product. I found perhaps the smallest ordinary housefly attempting to escape the fortitude of my home via a closed sliding glass door. "What a great opportunity to use 'The Executioner' to execute this below-average-in-size house fly. WELL, unless this house-fly has the regenerative abilities to the likes of one Wolverine, the Executioner merely tickled that little SOB. I'm not joking... I heard it laugh as it flew away after I zapped it not once, but TWICE!!The only reason this thing even deserves two stars is the simple fact the zapping SOUND when you get a bug is pretty satisfying.
Battery connectionunreliable!

Bought in Oct 2016. Didn't use it until the following Summer 2017. ( bought one previously and thought I'd give this one as a gift..) Put in fresh batteries. Worked fine for about a month then noticed a fly would land but not be zapped. (There is a high pitched hum when button is pushed which indicates it's "on" and it could only be heard sometimes. ) I guess I got a bad one! Test it out and make sure you hear the hum every time--if not send it back! Because of this bad experience I will not buy this brand again.
Zaps fine, but plastic breaks near the handle after a few months.

Just got this, and it works great. As another poster showed on a photo, you can see and hear the Zap when it shocks the bug or fly or mosquito, and they are killed quickly. Took it out to the yard and killed about a dozen or more flies. Racket is smaller and lighter than a real tennis racket but feels solid. Spend the extra few dollars to get this one versus the cheaper ones.Update: While the zapping worked fine, constantly swinging it or trapping flies against a fence or floor, the plastic broke near the top of the handle. This was not with very hard swings, so while it seemed sturdy in reality, it is not strong at all. Need one of these with a steel frame!
Didn't work for me !!
August 20, 2016
I have returned this product after using it for one week. The idea is a wonderful one, and I read many positive reviews which prompted me to make the purchase. Here was my experience:1. It's heavy and this is a problem in two specific areas. First, when trying to swing it through the air at a fly, the weight slows down your swing. I was unable to catch a fly this way ...and I tried many, many, MANY times. The second area where the weight of the product is a problem is in trying to kill a fly that's landed on an object. Lowering the swatter is slow due to it's weight and bulkiness and my experience was that this just scared the fly into quickly leaving. It ended with me banging the heavy swatter against the object (table, door, window, etc) and I've scratched a table and almost broke a window.2. When you ARE able to actually come in contact with a fly ...sparks FLY ....and it definitely ZAPS them.....HOWEVER....after coming in contact with flies on 5 separate occasions, in each and every instance, the fly fell to the floor then quickly flew away.So .......not sure if flies here are heartier that elsewhere or if the ZAP is more for shock and awe rather than actual harm ....but I just can't justify spending $20 for a product that did not work for me.
... Executioner) would have you believe then you will be disappointed in this product
April 13, 2015
If you are looking for a bug zapper that actually KILLS the insects the way the assumed title (The Executioner) would have you believe then you will be disappointed in this product. This thing doesn't actually kill flies - it merely stuns then if you are lucky enough to close enough to them. You actually have to come completely in contact with the fly or it doesn't do anything at all. Then it makes a loud popping sound and bright blue flash which is shocking at first. You would think after that, the fly would be dead but instead it just wriggles around on the floor or window sill just long enough for you to squish it with toilet paper. But you better be ready with toilet paper or paper towel in hand because if you have to run get it, the fly will be long gone once you return.Definitely would NOT recommend this product.I saw one in use at someone's house & it actually killed the flies - it obviously was not the Executioner.Bummed I wasted $20 on this piece of junk.

Won't keep a charge. Won't kill a bug when it is charged. They laugh at it....

I would not call it a bug zapper so much as I would call it a Solar-Powered Hanging Blue-Light Yard Decoration.
It does not attract or kill any bugs - but it looks kind of nice. If you are trying to control the bugs in the yard, I highly recommend looking elsewhere.
Received an already open box, already dissatisfied
April 26, 2016
Received already open box with bugs dead in the unit. Already dissatisfied as this is a $50 unit. Also no user manual was included. I have it plugged in and charging (hoping it works) if it does, rating will stay the same. If it doesn't, rating will go down and another bad review will be posted.
RETURNED!!
December 13, 2015
Did not work as advertised. Before first use I fully charged it with the included AC power supply charger. That night used the bug light/killer feature and it lasted about 8 hours. For the next two days the unit solar panels were in the direct Hawaii intense sunlight all day. Both of those nights it didn't even last 3 hours.

This bug zapper is not worth the money. Does not kill or draw bugs to it. Material is plastic and it blew off the pole I had it mounted on. I would not buy this product again.

It's cheaply made and definitely not $19 quality. Returned instantly.
Lasted less than 6 months
September 3, 2017
While this worked fine at first, less than 6 months after my purchase it stopped functioning. The red light still turns on and it still makes a sound when you hold the on button but there's no electricity that comes out. This led to a couple frustrating attempts at killing mosquitos and them just flying free and unharmed.Beware the durability issues of this swatter.
Worked for 40 days
September 1, 2017
It stopped working after 40 days. I wouldn't have bothered with this review if it was a five dollar fly swatter but this is a twenty dollar fly swatter.
Very disappointed with this purchase which has now been returned
August 13, 2017
Very disappointed with this purchase which has now been returned. I bought this based on the recommendation on The SweetHome website and very good amazon reviews. The swatter arrived without the battery cover. I attempted to use it without it as I was desperate for a solution to my fly problem and wanted to start trying something immediately. I found that the swatter would stun the fly temporarily but not kill it. Not sure if the lack of batter cover had an effect on its power but it did not work for me. Also, the noise when it zapped a fly was very loud. I've returned it. They handled the return very quickly, which I appreciate, but I would not recommend this product.

We initially bought this one for the good reviews, but found that the charge is very powerful and many flies and hornets actually bounce off of the thing and fly away. Also we've seen flies walking around after being zapped, not able to fly. The concerning part is also that my husband felt a charge AFTER it had been used, making it totally unsafe so we sent it back for a refund.
Bad Switch
June 12, 2015
Had a faulty switch that would not stay activated when pushed. The light came on and immediately went out with a bit of a blink now and then. Same result with other batteries, electronics in these must be cheap. Had no chance to even try it out, immediately returned.

I really loved this we took it camping and it worked great..however when i took it out of winter storage to charge it for this years use it does not charge and the light does not come on...the battery is hardwired in and cannot be replaced what a shame i did like it but will not zpend another $60 for another one
Don't Get Zapped.
June 21, 2016
Poorly designed experience. Returned it. 50 dollar product worth 0 dollars. If it was 20 dollars I wood have understood it's poor design better. Doesn't work during the day. Too small & weak. Not luring enough insects.

Got a different 1 from Home Depot 4 20 dollars less. It has luring bulb that needs to b replaced every 30 days. Not solar-powered though but ok if works properly. I can normally trust Home Depot. Works during the day. Has a tray to clean bugs out of easier.

See what happens.

... for far out in the yard and another standard good ole fashioned bug zapper that plugs into wall power
August 19, 2015
I bought this for far out in the yard and another standard good ole fashioned bug zapper that plugs into wall power. This thing did not attract or kill a single bug over 3 nights while the other one was working overtime. i put them near each other (so to make sure the solar power got a fair chance to kill) and it killed 1 while the other killed prob 200. the 1 prob unluckily got stuck is my guess. i have read the instructions and tried everything but it doesnt attract bugs. it does light up at night though (and yes i had it set to kill and not just light.)
Not operating properly out of the box.
June 22, 2015
Just got this product - charged it up and found that it would not operate unless I flipped it over upside down - not ideal!
I'll keep a bit longer to see if it gets straightened out - if not then I'll return it and chalk it up as a dud.
