September 10, 2016
Quite powerful ... we also have the cordless/battery run B&D trimmer from FOURTEEN years ago (all we did with that was replace the battery) but with our large lot (2.34 acres) the darned thing runs out of steam ... hence the purchase of the electric one so I can really tackle the stuff directly around the house and take the cordless one around the lot perimeter.
great buy, great price
August 5, 2016
great buy. came on time, as expected, and only took about 45 seconds to assemble. Nice and powerful while also light weight. gets the job done and some. I read some reviews about the string just endlessly feeding out so I was skeptical, but I am glad I disregarded those because I have no idea what they are talking about. Maybe they do not know how to properly put string on a weed-whacker.
Worth it as long as you take care of it!
December 2, 2015
Been using this for over a year. It's performed well through two seasons. It's very powerful, and easy to use. I mainly use it for grass but I've taken down weeds like they didn't stand a chance. I have not experienced any issues with this weed trimmer so far. I don't anticipate any problems with it anytime soon either. These work great and they're very cheap. Definitely worth the price. The last one I had (similar B&D) died most likely due to someone using it and not cleaning out the heat vents. If you buy one of these, take care of it. A little maintenance goes a long way. I used the last one for 5 years. The last season I had it, it did well every time I used it. I let someone else use it a few times, it melted. The whole casing was burning hot and covered in grass that was matted down to it.
Exactly what I needed
May 23, 2015
This is a great price for a great weed whacker. I just got it yesterday, but I've already done my entire front and back yards and they look fantastic! It is very easy to use and not too heavy. The automatic string feeder makes using this item so simple anyone could do it. Also you can twist the handle so that it can edge sidewalks and patios. It's really easy to switch back and forth and it leaves a clean edge all around. Everything looks amazing. Also it has a cord keeper where you can loop the extension cord (not included) so that it doesn't unplug when you're using it. The only drawback at all is that the spool isn't very big and they're not super cheap. I got almost the entire yard done but ran out. I hadn't bought additional spools from Amazon but Lowe's carries them for a comparable price, so they're easy to find. All in all I'm thrilled with this and I highly recommend it to anyone! I love that it is electric and doesn't require gas, too.

August 15, 2014
Just got this today and used it already! I've owned the Black and Decker lithium battery trimmer/edger...twice! That model died on me as the motor is just not meant to last for more than one season of just regular use (trimming the fenceline and edging the sidewalk of a small yard). I really thought I may not like this electric one as I don't want to be bothered dragging a cord behind me. But honestly, there is just no comparison. For the same price, the electric one is so much more powerful!!! And because of the extra power, it cuts/trims so much better. It's lightweight and the only thing you have to do to use it out of the box is put the shield on. Two seconds later, off you go to tidy up the yard! Fantastic!
Update: Season 4 - All Is Great! I'm ordering another.
September 8, 2012
September 2012 - After reading many of the reviews, I was hesitant to purchase this item. I started out with the battery model for the B&D trimmer and after charging 24 hours it worked for 15 minutes top. I returned the battery model and purchased the electric B&D model. I used it for the first time today and was able to complete an hour's worth of weed-eating and edging work. I was thrilled. I am a 55 year old woman and I find this trimmer easy to handle (except for the cord, but I don't mind that if it lasts more than 15 minutes.), light weight and quite powerful. My yard is 70' x 125' and I was able to complete almost all of the edging in a little over an hour. (I stopped because I needed a break, not because the trimmer lost power.)I also used all of the initial string and had to restring the trimmer with 0.065 string. This is usually my biggest test because I can never get the string on right. I followed all of the intructions and reloaded the string and was able to trim for another hour without fail. I hope and pray this trimmer continues to work. Will keep you all posted. EBApril 2013 - Season II - All is great. Today was our first real spring in Richmond, VA -- 90 degrees -- more like a shift from Winter to Summer instead of Spring. Anyway, I pulled the old B&D Electric Trimmer I purchased last year with my fingers crossed and to my surprise, it worked like a champ. I edged for over an hour --- that's my personal limit --- and all was fine. I must say, it is a lot better than the battery operated model. I changed the string with not problem and I didn't have any string problem until the end. I still have half of the yard to finish tomorrow, so stay tuned. If it gets me pass the more demanding part of the season, I'll give it a 5 Star because the first Spring cut after Winter is the worst. I was anxious but all worked just fine!August 2013 - Great Trimmer! I am going to order another just in case.May 2015 - Spring cleaning and lots of edging....Trimmer worked like a PRO! Trimmed 8750 sq/ft lawn plus flower beds. Worked continuously for 1.5 hours --- when I needed a break. All works well. I'm impressed and I'm ordering a new one today to keep on hand. Five years of heavy use is not bad.

Great size and weight!
October 9, 2017
Perfect size and weight for what we needed. We can't seem to have enough of these around this home of ours. I will buy nothing shorter than a 100 ft anymore. It's amazing how they are never long enough to get the job done with the shorter ones.
Good to go for 12A outdoor usuage.

As an Electrical Engineer let clear up some misconcptions.1.  All ratings are very conservative, as they were tested based on the worse conditions anyone would expect to occur and then some.2.  Current (Amps) limitations are to prevent fire, due to heat build up.  Dissapating heat is a major concern, hence all the vents you see and fans you hear in your PCs and other devices. With that said a cable laying on the ground, outside, and not coiled up, is going to disapate heat much more easily than a cable coiled up or inside a wall, the later being a worst case scenario and one basis for the ampere ratings.  More amps more heat. Note that the ratings are based on 30°C (86°F), thankfully fall is much cooler. From NEC Table 400.5(A)(1) Allowable Ampacity for Flexible Cords and Cables [Based on Ambient Temperature of 30 °C (86 °F).Lists 16 gauge wire for; Condition A* = 10A (listed rating of this cord)Condition B* = 13A*Condition A:   The allowable currents apply to 3-conductor cords and other multiconductor cords connected to utilization equipment so that only 3 conductors are current-carrying.*Condition B:   The allowable currents apply to 2-conductor cords and other multiconductor cords connected to utilization equipment so that only 2 conductors are current-carrying.The 3rd conductor is ground and does not carry current under normal conditions, thus this cable would more accurately fall under Class B (13A). This would certify 12A use. There is another factor, the voltage drop in the cable.  This voltage is not available to the load (e.g, leaf blower) and, if too great, would affect it's operation.  The voltage drop in the wire can be predicted using Ohm's Law (Volts= current x resistance). So now we need the resistance of the cable. The AWG (American Wire Gauge) lists 16 gauge wire having a resistance of 4.016 ohms per 1000ft.  That converts to 0.4016 ohms for our 100ft cable.  Aplying Ohm's Law the voltage drop in  the cable will be - 0.4016 ohms × 12 Amps = 4.82 volts.  This leaves 120v - 4.82v or 115.18v for the load.  More than enough for normal operation.  Yes, this is sized correctly and will work for 12A use without issue. Good to go!One final note on extension cords in general, especially if using a cord reel;Regardless of current demand (12A, 10A, 8A, etc.), to prevent heat build-up that could very possibly melt the insulation and create a fire hazzard;=============》 !!! UNWIND ENTIRE CABLE BEFORE USE!!! 《=============..

Perfect fit and cheaper alternative than the big box stores
May 27, 2016
Perfect fit and cheaper alternative than the big box stores. I originally thought I got the wrong string but found out that my trimmer was actually missing a little piece that kept the string from auto feeding. Amazon is a great place to find these little gems and when I originally thought I got the wrong item, they were making it too easy to return. Thankfully I figured out what the problem was and we are back in business.
Autofeed is back! Worth it!
November 16, 2015
Works great with my old Black+Decker weed wacker. Recently I had been refilling with bulk string from the store, but was having issues with the autofeed system.Ordered these and now the Autofeed is much more consistent and better. For a few bucks a summer it is sure worth it!Will keep these on hand! :)
Conveinence makes it worth it.
September 21, 2015
Do you pay a premium for these? Yes. You could probably just reuse the same one and wrap with new string. However, I'm an honest person and I'll tell you, I'm just too darn lazy to do so. I find a value in being able to simply grab a new one and pop it in, especially when I run out of string halfway through my trimming. These work well and seem to last a decent amount of time. They aren't the cheapest way to go about it, but I don't find that I feel short-changed by using them either.
Easy and Convenient
August 26, 2015
Easy to install. So much better than the old gas trimmers that were a total cluster to re-string. The spool that came with the trimmer lasted 3 months, just installed a new spool. Estimate I will go through around $8 worth of line per season trimming and edging a 1/4 acre city lot. Well worth it!
Quality Product
May 21, 2014
I never thought that I would be writing a review on trimmer string, but the difference between this and the 3 packs I have been purchasing at Home Depot is remarkable. The HD product jams constantly, and I spend more time pulling the spool off and fixing the kinks than I do trimming. This works perfectly, feeds smoothly, and my work gets done with a lot less aggravation. I will never go back.
Long Lasting; Quick and Easy to Install
August 29, 2013
These Black & Decker AF-100-2 replacement spools are extremely fast and easy to change and are long lasting. I admit, at first, I was hesitant to buy them as they only contain 30 feet of line; however, after a VERY rainy summer and a broken down lawn mower and grass that quickly became three or more feet high, the original 30-foot spool (also Black & Decker AF-100-2) that came with my trimmer cut the entire lawn seven to eight times before needing to be changed. The durability and amount of trimming completed with the original spool amazed me. The area I trimmed with the original spool is approximately 50' x 50' and includes unwanted blackberry canes and rock garden bed borders. Also, I'm not kidding about the grass -- we bought the trimmer after the lawn mower died and had to wait until the constant rain subsided a bit. We purchased the trimmer in early June; it is now the end of August. We replaced the original spool with one of these replacements. These spools last, and last, and last!

Lightweight, easy to use.
September 12, 2016
The only reason it doesn't get five stars is because the plug (from the extension cord into the machine) falls out very easily. Like really easily. So, I duct taped it in. Other than that, this is just a great little weed eater. I was having so much fun that I may have over done it and my arm was so soor the next day! lol. Lightweight, very easy to get up and running. Great instructions.
It does a good job over all
July 25, 2016
Had it a few weeks and used it several times in the yard. It is very light. I bought it because my wife wanted to be able to use it too, and the gas trimmers were too heavy for her. It does a good job over all. It's very easy to restring and has a self-feeding mechanism so you don't have to keep bumping it on the ground when the string is short. That being said, that is also my only real complaint about it. The line seems to run out fairly quickly, probably due to the self-feeding mechanism. Would I buy it again? Yes.
Good trimmer, maybe just not the best.
August 12, 2015
I had been using the small B&D corded lawn-type trimmer. I decided to buy this one 2 years ago. I have truly loved this unit. The problem is that it's not quite as tough as I thought it would be. I agree with a couple of reviews. The very small screw holding the guard on is "iffy" - should redesign to at least have two screws. The lever under the line spool has broken. Now I know that I need to be a bit more careful trimming. I have never edged, I don't have that type of property. I would be concerned whether this trimmer could withstand difficult edging issues. I did not want to purchase a whole new trimmer, so I've ordered a couple of levers, one to repair and a spare. I just think overall that this unit is a good one, but maybe should only be used for trimming grass in a yard that does not require a great deal of line feeding.

August 27, 2014
Had this for roughly a year now. I have .25 acre with weeds along my fencing, and already had some long extension cords. I've come to prefer this over gas, having been a skeptic. It's lighter, a little quieter (I still prefer ear protection but noise is bearable without), less messy. The head feeder thing isn't perfect, but after a while it is easy to pop off and fix the line. I've never had any head from any brand feed perfectly so can't complain. Would I pay more for thicker line and more power? Meh, hard to say, for the price this one is fine. It also twists and does a great job edging the driveway, as good or better then the metal blade attachment I had for my old gas ryobi. The heads are relatively inexpensive at walmart, when I'm lazy I just buy a couple rather than spend time re-filling the line.
Strong Unit!
March 19, 2014
It does the job well, especially edging. Very powerful, pretty easy to maneuver. - but if you're not careful you can gouge the lawn while trimming along the flowerbeds - pretty powerful machine.Like most (all?) trimmers, it has issues feeding the line and of course the line gets jammed and you have to take it apart to get it going again, (as w/most trimmers/edgers - a RPITA!).We upgraded from an GreenWorks battery powered unit, (BTW, a POS! - low powered, battery only lasted a year), and definitely don't regret the decision purchasing this guy, it's like driving a 500 hp sports car compared to a Yugo.-A

What can you say about a extension cord. Works fine.
Decent price, long length, fairly safe, but kinks more. Not from Coleman Camping Outfitters as implied.
June 4, 2017
Fluctuating price & coupon was right. Soft Cord kinks easily. These ripples, when wound, catch making it hard to unravel smoothly. Looks wavey. Knots up more than expensive hard cords. Was at my front door a day and a half after ordering at no expense to me. Fine extension for the price.
Light duty only!
July 20, 2016
I'm using this to power a auto air inflation pump. The pump draws 1.5 amps. This is a light duty extension cord meant to handle 13 amps maximum. Even taking into account start up surge, I should be safe. This extension cord is light duty only. A current load anywhere close to the 13 amp maximum should be upgraded to an extension cord made with 14 or even 12 gauge wire.A light duty extension cord should be able to handle work lights, portable fans and hedge trimmers.Shop vacs, lawn mowers, table saws, power drills and chain saws cannot be used safely with this extension cord.
Long Outdoor Cord Is Perfect For Electric Snowblower
March 1, 2016
Bought this as an accessory for an electric snowblower. I had other cords but it seemed wise to get a single long waterproof cord; joining two shorter cords outside in the snow and wet seemed needlessly risky.Glad i did it. Have used it only once but it worked perfectly and with no worries. Not all that cheap, but it seems worth it to feel safe !

These spools are great! I've used my Black & Decker lightweight weed eater for 3 years and am pleased with the performance. The spool is so simple to insert and it feeds easily with bumping it on the ground.
Goes faster than the original
October 24, 2016
The weed whacked seems to go they this faster then it did the original nylon thread that it came with. Not sure why that is the case as this is supposed to be OEM replacement.Otherwise works fine and fits the model we have as expected.
Great Purchase
August 18, 2016
Exactly what I needed. I take care of my lawn even though I am in a power chair, this trimmer and string are the best I have bought with adjustment on the trimmer and string that goes a long way.
Works great!....when it works.
December 7, 2015
This works well with my Black and Decker battery powered trimmer. The auto-feed feature worked flawlessly with the spool that was already on the trimmer when I purchased the trimmer. When I put on the first replacement spool it would not auto-feed for the first several times I used it. I had to manually remove it and unwind it each time the line got short. After a while the auto-feed started working again. I don't know why it wasn't working, I didn't change anything before it started working properly again. When it works, it's great so I'm still giving it four stars.
Instructions could use clarity
June 21, 2015
I'm not usually mechanically challenged but the instructions on this were not great so it took longer to replace than I thought it should but considering how these things used to work it's akin to sliced bread in the handiness. Little more clarity on instructions and it would be a 5 star.

Works OK except problems with the line feeder
March 6, 2017
Usually a good brand. I found that while this edger has the power to tackle most light weight jobs, I've had nothing but problems with the line feeder dispensing the line. A total disappointment in that area.
Not quite what I expected but still a good product

November 11, 2016
I have problems getting the extension cord to stay pugged in as Im using it. Ive had issues where the blades become undone and it can be difficult to unwind and replace it back into working order. It does get the job done for the very small area I need to use it with.
light duty but works
September 3, 2015
It works but it's not heavy duty. I have a lot of sharp gravel in my yard and if I angle it a little bit too much the thread breaks off and has to be rethreaded. I haven't tried it for edging yet but I'm not going to expect much. But hey, for $40 I saved myself from needing to hire people to mow my lawn after I let it get out of control. And I'm obviously going to let it get out of control again, so it's cost effective.
Light-Duty Trimmer-Ddger
April 24, 2015
It is a very light-duty trimmer-edger... I have been using it for about 2-years now... It is rather quite inexpensive, but the automatic feed (string) doesn't work well and you'll go through a lot of spools (strings), which are not cheap... If you are a professional gardener, then this trimmer-edger may not be for you. The noise level is OK too, but you may want to use it during normal hours...
Cheap and it works fairly well
July 12, 2013
If you are on a tight budget and your expensive high quality trimmer/edger just died, then this will do as short term replacement. It works, but you will burn through quite a bit of the .065 line trimming and edging even a small yard. Lot's of flimsy plastic parts, but, hey it is inexpensive and it works fairly well. I bought plenty of extra line and boy am I glad I did and I also bought the replacement spool cap and spring, because i can tell I will probably need that soon. I will follow up after a few months of use to let you know if the unit is still doing the job.

July 20, 2014
It's a cheap cable (paid $9.99 for the 50' model) and it's light. It's not a bad cable, but you get what you pay for. I have a nice 12 gauge US Wire extension cord that is well made, but heavy. This little guy doesn't seem the most durable, but it hasn't fallen apart either. It does have the benefit of being light (which is natural for a thinner gauge cable). This is good for when you are only going to use a low powered piece of equipment as it's nice to not have to lug around the heavy extension cord. If you are looking to run big tools like table saws, etc. I'd opt for a thicker cable. If you are just looking to run a leaf blower now and then or other lower power jobs then this cable will fit the bill.

It shorted out after using it for six months! The end where you plug it into the appliance caught on fire with a little stream of fire coming from that end. Was lucky enough to detach it from the working appliance that it was being used on. Rubbed off the excess char from the working appliance for it still runs yet the extension cord was charred and one side was flattened.Seeing now if there is still a one year limited warranty on the extension cord itself to replace it. Otherwise will have to pay out of pocket to replace after only six months of using the extension cord. Sure was something to have the appliance stop suddenly then to kick back on to notice the little stream of fire coming from the plug in piece on one side of the cord. At least not a total lose since the working appliance as stated earlier is still workable just had to rub off excessive little char on it.

Too Heavy and Too Long
June 22, 2016
The weed eater I had for 37 years, yep 37 years, finally gave up the ghost two years ago. It was the best and I miss it. I've tried to find one similar but have had no luck and the company no longer exists. I purchased a Toro weed eater which is very good but it's too heavy. I still used it until the line ran out. This year I thought I'd try again. I gave the Toro to my son and bought the Black & Decker ST7700. It's a simple design, it works great, love the automatic line-feed but it is still too heavy for this old lady. Plus, it's too long and not adjustable. (I'm 5'6") I'll probably use it until the line runs out then give it to someone and try to find a different one that doesn't kill my arms when using it.Sure wish I still had my old clunker or could find one like it.

March 2017 ...So I was using the older one because I was able to fix the reason why there is no power..So today I wanted to use this one, and for some unknown reason, the Auto Feed is not working...Adjusted my review from 4 stars to 3, and would be more than happy to re-do if I could get an answer from B&D customer service. Right now, I have to manually feed the line.
Not working as intended
March 18, 2014
I chose this rating as I seem to have no other way of communicating with the seller. I had another similar trimmer/edger by this same manufacturer and it lasted 10+yrs before I now had to get this new one. However, it is not working as an edger which I really, really need it to do. My old trimmer/edger had a button I pushed in to turn and change the machine to an edger, this does not seem to have this button and no matter how I try to push down to turn the handle it is just not working. I would like a replacement that works or a better explanation than is in the manual as to how to get this machine to edge. If not/none I need to return it.Thanks

Wouldn't buy this brand again
August 23, 2017
This is listed as an outdoor cord, but when it gets cold it gets really, really stiff. And when it gets hot, I sometimes can't get things to power up. Not much of an outdoors quality. And the brand WAS NOT Coleman!
Double check what you're buying it for.
July 15, 2017
Bought this on suggestion for leaf blower, but it's not heavy duty enough for it. To return it, half my refund would pay for shipping, so guess I'll keep it and see if something else comes along that can use it. :-(
Spend more on a better cord
December 20, 2016
Cord is stiff and coated with some cheap plastic. Very difficult to recoil or work the kinks out. Recommend spending a few more dollars on a higher quality cord.Mine also arrived with a gash in the plastic coating.
Nice length wire
April 23, 2016
Pro: Nice length wire.Cons: With 2 uses outdoors it has developed cracks near the end and at other places of strain. I don't think this is an outdoor wire for Lawn accessories as intended, but may be fine for stationary equipment. The product is not worth the cost.
Should have had three pin connectors.
January 29, 2015
Sold as a packaged recommendation with the GreenWorks 26032 12 Amp Corded Snow Thrower. Well, the Snow thrower is a three pin and this cable is 2 pin so you cana. use it with the risk of electrocuting yourselfb. return it.
Corde became very twisted..
January 3, 2014
This extention cord is perhaps a bit too long, once it is twisted, it doesn't want to uncoil. I thought about hanging long sections of it off my 2nd story window but there doesn't seem to be enough kinetic energy in it to uncoil.. By uncoil I don't mean untangle.. Rather the twisting forces on the cord do not 'unwind'.

September 17, 2017
These didn't seem to last nearly as long as other black and Decker string replacements I have gotten. Going back to other product, not sure if these are fakes, but the others would last me an entire season on three spools. Went through 4 of these this year already and now need more.
Doesn’t last long...
September 16, 2017
I’m lucky to get through weedwacking my yard one time without running out of string. My previous weedwacker and string lasted at least 3 times.
Tedious. Fortunately
July 29, 2017
There is nothing automatic about these "Autofeed" spools. I have to stop every few minutes, remove the cap on the spool, rotate the spool a bit to get some more length, and then replace the cap. Tedious. Fortunately, I don't use this thing every week.
Be careful when you order
June 15, 2017
Be careful when you order the Black and Decker Trimmer because the "also bought" suggestion for replacement cord MAY NOT BE THE RIGHT spools for the trimmer in your cart. I had to return the two spools that were shown with my Black and Decker cordless trimmer (which is really nice) and go back and find the right replacement spool.

Line is constantly breaking. Never had this problem before.
could be better
August 26, 2015
I chose the 2-pack, b/c the unit price was lower than either the singles or the 3-packs. Got two 2-packs. Just finished the first spool and was surprised at how fast it went. Much more brittle and shorter-lived than the one that came with the trimmer. Also, realized after purchase/delivery that you can buy a big spool of line and re-wrap the existing trimmer spool yourself. For some reason I had previously thought that wasn't an option with this model.

Cheap imitation of what B&D USED to be
November 12, 2016
Over the past 12 years, I've owned two Black & Decker corded trimmer's. They last about six years each. After my last one died I thought I could just pick up one similar to my two previous ones. Unfortunately, it's a cheap knock off of what they used to be.I Live in suburbia. Our yards are not that big. After I finished trimming the backyard, the spring feed quit feeding! I try to resurrect it, but no dice. Thank God for Amazon's returns ! Black & Decker USED to make great trimmers. Seems like now it's all about The bottom line and delivering an inferior product. So disappointing.
Not feeding
May 1, 2016
I bought the trimmed trimmer about one month ago. Black and Decker is my company of choice. This is suppose to be a self feeder but it doesn't work. Instead we have to tab it on the grass. Now that too doesn't work. Because we live in south America we forward everything. We also bought extra spools to make sure we had enough stock. Can someone tell us what we're doing wrong . Thanks.
Didn't last a year.
October 14, 2015
I bought this trimmer in late 2013 to replace a B & D string trimmer that had gotten pretty well used and beaten up. Since it was bought late in 2013, it maybe was used once until spring of 2014. Since I have a yard service, I use the trimmer only to clean up a few things that the yard service misses. During one of the uses the string started running and would not stop until the spool was empty. I just put it away and got out my old trimmer. When I finally got around to pulling it apart to see what happened, I saw that the small part that allows the line to advance slowly was gone, making the trimmer unuseable. Very disappointing since I really only used the trimmer about half a dozen times. Didn't see a way to replace the part so, guess I'll have to buy a new trimmer.
Less Than Zero
July 10, 2015
If I could give this pile of junk a rating less than zero, I would. I purchased this, and on the second use it would not work. Being in CA during the draught, the grass is lucky to need cutting once a month. I exceeded my 30-day Amazon return deadline, so I'm stuck with pile of guano. Save yourself some frustration and buy something at your local hardware store so you can return if necessary.
Weed Eater is defective
November 5, 2014
Bought from Amazon Warehouse, thought it just had box damage. Weed eater has loose connection somewhere in motor. Would run for a few minutes, quit, run for a few minutes more. I suspect this was a return that was plugged in, it worked, and put back in the box. In the time it did run, the continuous feed worked correctly. It had a lot more vibration than our previous electric Black and Decker Weed eater. (which lasted ten years) This one was definitely made cheaper than the previous model we owned.
Disappointed isn't the first word that comes to mind when trying to describe this item, but its the least offensive.

Disappointed isn't the first word that comes to mind when trying to describe this item, but its the least offensive. Things started out well enough; it turned on and the string took down some weeds. My experience went quickly downhill when I got to edges/borders. The string did not automatically advance when it broke (too easily), so I was left making lots of noise without any cutting. I suppose you could ask why I was getting so close to the edge, and my answer is that the plastic 'saucer' literally fell of within the first 2 minutes when I bumped it into a flower pot. Yes, it was screwed on tightly and I remain astonished that it happened. I was not swinging it roughly, but gently sweeping from side to side. Seriously, I absolutely DID tighten that one little screw, and really am baffled. Delivered on Monday, first used this morning, return requested this afternoon. Hats off to those users with good ST7700 experiences, because I wasn't one of them.

poor quality
July 10, 2017
lasted about 5months, then burned through the side of the wire. Not the best quality.
Fire Hazard wire
June 10, 2017
What a waste !! Never ever buy it. Dont waste your money. It is a fire hazard. I was using to charge a battery and after couple of hours, I notice a smell. The wire was incredibly hot at certain portions of wire and was almost melted.
Test it when you get it
May 30, 2016
If you order this extension cable, I suggest you check it when you receive it. It never crossed my mind that it might be faulty. I just had a need for it and it doesn't work. I plugged an item into the socket and that works, but the extension cable does not. It's too late for me to return.
Sheathing tears easily
July 26, 2015
I got this for our electric lawn mower and snow blower 5 months ago. We have been hiring a snow removal service towards the end of the winter (got too fed up with the northeast winter), and our lawn is tiny and we have not been mowing it very diligently, so this cord has not been used much, maybe 10 times or less. However, when I take it out today, I found that the sheathing is already torn! The cord has been on a cord storage roller the whole time, and we are careful not to let it twist, unplugging and unwinding as it needed.I am just very disappointed by the quality of this. We had another outdoor cord that lasted many years, until someone accidentally short circuited it and melted the plug. Never have I seen the sheathing torn so easily - look for another brand unless you want to buy another one soon.

the outer sheathing is very brittle. first use i had it outside in the cold, and after being stepped on a handful of times, the outher orange sheathing has cracked off. kind of defeats the purpose of the thing.
More smoking problems
October 19, 2014
I had the same issue after two years as been mentioned here - smoking from the end that you plug your appliance into. Happened first with my leaf blower then with my lawnmower.Buy the U.S. Wire product. Might cost a little more but it won't be a danger

B & D weed whacker died.

July 3, 2017
The string is terrible. I went through three spool in an hour of weed eating. I wasn't weed eating anything tough--it was waist-high grass. I hacked one of the spools to add a small length of electric fence wire (about the same diameter), and it lasted a *lot* longer.
Breaks too easily. Used up in 3 minutes. Waste.
July 2, 2017
Ugh. Don't bother. Breaks every 3 steps. The whole reel was used up before I finished edging my small driveway. Waste of money and time.
Not what I expected!!
September 13, 2016
I ordered what I thought were 2 original OEM Black and Decker spools as shown in the picture. What I got were 2 RED (not black) colored spools with made in China written in big letters on the package. I decided to try 1 spool of the 2 pack only because I needed to do some weed eating ASAP. The OEM spools would last through several battery recharges on my BD cordless weed eater and get hours of use. This spool emptied out after 20 minutes. Don't waste your time or money on this product.
Needless to say I was more than disappointed.
June 21, 2016
These worked ok. Until a piece off the plastic lever that feeds the spool broke on the B&D weed eater it goes to. We are in Afghanistan and that was our only Weed eater. Apparently it was not built for such harsh environments. Needless to say I was more than disappointed.
Poor Quality Spools.
September 15, 2014
These spools are terrible. B&D should be ashamed to put out a product of this poor poor quality. The spool that came with the weed eater came apart on the second time out. Ordered a two pack. Stuck a new one in and second time it came apart. Have the third one in now. We will see next time out.
