January 29, 2017
Probably the heaviest rolling pin I've ever used but I love it. Its very well made and I've used it to roll out pasta and puff pastry and it worked very well with both. I like that it comes with a base because even though I have it in a drawer it is still stable and not rolling around into any of my other appliances. Its also a very beautiful rolling pin and it happened to match a marble cutting board that I received as a present. Works great and looks great, thats all you can really ask for.
Here's how I attached a new wire
September 9, 2016
Excellent device. However, as several others have mentioned, the unit arrived with the installed wire broken. With two spares taped on the underside, there was no problem getting the slicer into operation. For those that wanted directions, here's what I did (stand with the marble base oriented so groove is pointed toward my right hand): 1) remove one spare wire from underside of marble base (leave the other wire there "just in case" 2) slide C-shaped metal piece out of marble block, 3) replace C-shaped piece into marble base, with wire loop surrounding the shaft, 4) place circular piece (the item with the screw threads that match the marble handle threaded bolt) on outside shaft (the part not already inserted into the marble block) in line with groove in marble block, 5) insert threaded bolt and marble handle into unattached loop of wire, 6) rotate circular piece toward you, and tighten (loosely at first) the threaded bolt until the wire has been drawn tight enough to slice the cheese (if it's too tight, the wire will break) 7) cut a slice to verify correct operation. I just ate the first slice of cheese cut with this slicer--excellent, flat, cut.
Very sturdy, easy to put together
September 8, 2016
Very sturdy, easy to put together.I have both the white and black marble holders, and can't imagine using any other type. I keep one in the kitchen, and the other on the dining room side table (with two grand-kids, I need to have them handy). They are nearly impossible to knock over - a real plus for clumsy me!
Very heavy duty - well constructed
January 21, 2016
Very, very heavy duty - and perfectly constructed. The marble is very unique, you won't get the same piece twice and the one we received was absolutely gorgeous. The lazy susan spins very smoothly on the heavy duty ball bearings in the base. I bought this for my sister for Christmas and she was absolutely thrilled. When I felt the weight of this I was a little nervous, but it was in perfect condition and well padded inside the container. My sister has a lot of kitchen accessories in this marbled pattern and this was the perfect addition.

Now that i have a rolling pin i can bake many more that requires rolling pin now. Not just a rolling pin but a classy, elegant rolling pin. Sure gets pretty much of attention when someone is around when using this. Very easy to use it rolls properly and the handle has a strong grip. It has a place to put the rolling pen while you doing some other things and not using it (wood that comes with it). This sure is heavy though weigh 5 pounds and I could not lift with one hand. For sure i will post here the product dimensions:Product Dimensions: 2.5 x 2.5 x 18 inches ; 5 poundsVery useful in me specially I love baking. I recommended this. worth every penny you spent.
Perfect for large grinding projects
October 3, 2013
If you are needing a very large mortar and pestle - this is the one to get. It is very large and quite heavy but certainly able to get the job done. I used it to crush fresh rose petals as my smaller bowls would not be able to hold more than a few petals. This one did the trick quite nicely and I can see future uses for many other things! Since some items being ground in a white marble bowl can stain the inside, I have a little tip for anyone who may read this - grind some uncooked rice in the bowl. It will remove any little bits stuck in the unfinished/rough areas and will naturally leave the bowl with a nice bleached look. Just rinse when you are done and it sparkles like new!

Great product! Genius.
June 8, 2017
Bought this for my friend who is a baker by trade. She LOVES it! She says it saves her time and dough always even so cookies bake evenly. No guesswork. And she's not just saying that bc I bought it for her, because I see it out and used on days I'm not in the store (I volunteer in her bakery! As everyone else said, MAKE IT LONGER. Be sure to keep the rings in a ziploc or they'll get lost
Awesome rolling pin!!
May 2, 2017
I love this rolling pin! I wanted one so bad after making cookies for Xmas in Nov 2015, when I saw it on here. I was done with cookie making, so I waited and purchased it later on. I'm so glad I did! Made making cut-out cookies and other rollout doush so much easier. No guesswork on the thickness, just pick the measurement you want and go for it. Only thing missing from this is a 1/8 inch meaurement, since they have thickness of 1/16-inch, 1/6-inch, 1/4-inch and 3/8-inch off the work surface...but that isn't enough of a reason for me to take a star off. Good quality as well, well made. I will buy more products from this company for sure.
Great price, great qualify, great rolling pin!
May 2, 2017
This is so cool! I needed a rolling pin really bad, because I didn't have one and I was using a wine bottle as a rolling pin... Heh heh.The price on this product is excellent, and I LOVE that it has the removable rings so that I can roll out my dough without needing a pesky ruler nearby. The wood is really nice and I was surprised by the quality of this rolling pin. Remember not to soak the wood or immerse it in water for a long period of time and dry it as soon as you are done washing it. The instructions recommend oiling the wood lightly after each wash, and I would recommend that too.
Feels and looks like a work of art!
October 25, 2016
The wood was a little dry when it arrived so I treated it with butcher block oil and wow, what a difference! I'm almost going to feel bad about using it. Almost. I'm not going to feel bad when my friends get jealous about what a nice rolling pin this is! The measuring marks on the body are subtle. The little plastic discs feel very solid, and they're stamped on either side with both inches and millimeters of gap that they add.
I can finally roll a nice even crust! Amazing!
May 18, 2016
Bought one for me and ended up buying 3 as gifts. Wow. Rolling a nice, even pie crust (the bane of my existence) has never been easier! If you're rolling out especially long or wide dough, you do have to be careful not to roll the ring across the edge - but I'm talking extremes. You won't run into this problem with the majority of your baking projects.Just one tiny thing: Looking at it, you think there is every size for any thickness you could possibly want. However, I wish there was a size for a good cut-out cookie dough. I often use intricate cookie cutters, and the thin cookies tend to break easily, whereas thicker cookies are a bit too thick. Yeah - can't be perfect - and I happily accept the trade-off! Getting those nice even crusts is far more important!!This is in my daughters' horde of kitchen stuff for when...ehem...they move out.
I think I'm in love
October 28, 2014
I didn't think it was possible to feel this way about a rolling pin! I make a LOT of cookies. And the most annoying part of it, to me, is baking my cookies and finding that they're different thicknesses, or slanted. This solves that problem. Just roll out your dough with the thickness ring of your choice on either end, and that's it. Make sure that the largest ring on either end is the one you want to use. Like if you want 1/4 inch thick cookies, make sure you remove the 3/8 inch ring. Duh, I know, but that bit of information may actually be helpful to someone. You might want to buy some food grade mineral oil to rub it down with before using. I find that it gave it a nice finish. If you're used to using a traditional rolling pin (like me) you may find that there's a tiny learning curve when it comes to using one like this. But I promise, it's not difficult once you get used to it.I could see the thickness rings getting in the way if you plan to roll out a large circle of dough, say for pie or pizza crust. But if your primary usage is for rolling out sugar cookie dough, go for it. It will change your life.

Great for all spices!
March 3, 2017
I needed a spice grinder for Indian spices because we make a lot of curries, etc. After a lot of investigation, it seemed that old-fashioned mortar and pestle hand-grinding is better than expensive electric grinders. This one was well reviewed, so I gave it a try. It arrived just fine, and ready to go. It fits a fair amount of spices, but it's not really big. It happens to be the right size for me, though. It's massively heavy (surprise, it's a block of marble), and I expect it to be quite durable. It smells rather like stone out of the box, and retained that scent after a first washing. I'm sure that'll change as it has more spices ground into it over the years. The smell/taste doesn't transfer to food, in my experience so far, so no complaints. Also, it's a beautiful color.

Kinda expected it to come in one piece but you have to screw two pieces together. That begin said, it's got a nice weight to it so it won't slide around the counter which is why I initially purchased this.
Better than your average wood rolling pin hands down
April 4, 2016
My mom had one just like this growing up so I never knew there was any other kids of rolling pins. I loved hers so much, I wanted one just like it, causing me to get this one. Shipping was fast, and product was as described. Compared to a wood rolling pin, I think I like the weight of this one so much more. It did arrive with a slightly flattened area off toward the handle in one spot but it did not affect the use if the rolling pin, so I didnt worry too much about it. It washes by hand nice, and comes with a small wood piece that it rests in. I use lots of flour so the rolling pin doesnt stick to whatever dough I am rolling out. Have used it for cookies, pie crusts, etc and it works well. Is heavy but I think that allows you to have to push less on what you are rolling out. Love this product and would suggest this one over a cheaper wood one anyday.
Many shades of black
January 26, 2016
But I wouldn't have minded if it came gray 😉 I don't think the color of the marble has any bearing on its quality. It's thick and sturdy - the feet can be slippery if the surface is messy so make sure counter is dry after washing if you plan to use it. I've also found that placing paper towels beneath gave it a strong hold.Yes the dimensions are right there but I still wish it were bigger for my large doughs and pastry I guess until I get an actual marble countertop this will do.Btw I do have one gray and bigger from wfair was much more expensive I presume due to size but comparable in every other way. I don't use the other one because I am afraid to ruin it but I think judging from this it can take a lot of wear and tear provided you don't drop it!
Had high expectations...
January 3, 2016
Given the other reviews I had high expectations for this product. Arrived in a very generic box with no instructions... not like it's a brainteaser to figure out how to use a cheese slicer....however the wire to cut the cheese was broken upon delivery. I had no idea how to put one of my extra two wires... With some troubleshooting and my husband's help we got it on properly. Suggestion to the shippers...maybe don't ship the product with the wire already attached and throw in a little 123 how to put it on. All that being said I sliced and entire block of cheese with the slicer I like the cut it makes but I don't love the wiggle room for uneven slices. The reason I bought this because the handheld had so much wiggle room you have to have a steady hand to use either cheese cutter. Not having ever owned one that laid down I only assumed this would give me better control... Overall I still gave it four stars because the marble is nice and heavy and the cut is nice and clean...seems like it will last us a while given the wire does not break over and over. For the price I do like it better than the handheld.

Pretty good but has a learning curve.
August 12, 2017
I love the ability to be able to have just the thickness I need for whatever I'm baking. The only problem I've had is the lack of handles and the fact that you can only have the length of the roller. Definitely takes some getting used to and not something I thought about until I started using it. I've gotten used to being able to run the rolling pin in every which way and that doesn't work with this.I will say the lack of handles is weird. Maybe if they made handles instead of the green end it would make it a little easier to deal with.
Not long enough
November 29, 2016
I liked the idea of discs to help with rolling dough to different thicknesses. Unfortunately, these discs restrict how big a piece of dough can be rolled because the length of the pin itself is too short. For a single pie crust it will work fine. But for anything larger the discs need to be removed in order to finish rolling the ends.
Design flaw...
November 20, 2016
The idea behind this rolling pin is brilliant. There is a design flaw. There are no handles to hold onto while rolling it so it is hard to keep constant pressure. I'm admittedly not using it for dough. I'm using it to roll out clay to make ornaments - I so liked being able to pick a size and hoped to roll it consistently. But having to press down on the round part of the rolling pin and roll it with your hands makes it difficult to roll evenly. Perhaps with dough it isn't an issue. But I love the idea behind it.
Rolling Pin with Limitations
October 3, 2016
This is a very helpful tool in my kitchen. I believe every home baker should have this rolling pin on hand. It takes the guesswork out of making cookies, donuts, pie crusts*, and so much more.It does have some limitations. It's not wide enough. *This makes it difficult to roll out pie crusts for typical 9" and 10" pies, which require crusts that are 14"+ in diameter, but for a "bar pie" that goes in a rectangular dish, this is a great tool.Tea cakes and sugar cookies are a breeze to roll out with this pin. My aunt borrowed this rolling pin to make 6 dozen tea cakes for a wedding, and they all turned out beautifully. The tea cakes weren't uneven, they were perfectly flat, which helped them cook more evenly during the baking process. This tool can be used to laminate dough for French pastries, such as croissants and puff pastry. It can be used to roll out dough for pasta, which has been a great help for me, due to the fact that I don't own a pasta making appliance. My tapered rolling pin still has its place in my kitchen. It picks up the slack when my adjustable rolling pin can't handle a job.Overall, it's a decent product but could use some redesigning.I've attached a picture of my Aunt's lovely tea cake recipe! It's great and very simple. I recommend decorating with a buttercream or royal icing. Enjoy!
Almost-perfect rolling pin for rolling out dough.
January 7, 2016
This is a great rolling pin. I love being able to scientifically roll out my dough evenly. I realize it is cheating . . . but I like cheating when it means better results (and saving me energy). :) I use it mostly for pie crusts and Christmas cookies. It is perfect in every way . . . except that it doesn't have the actual size I use for the cookies I make each Christmas (and it is a REALLY standard size, 1/8 inch). If it had the ring for that size, it would be five stars. If you never need that size, it IS five stars. I'm thinking of just making my own ring for that size.

December 28, 2014
I love the fact that it really helped me make even dough for my cookies...that is why I gave it 4 stars. The missing star is because you can only roll out a long section that has to fit between the end rollers. I figured this out before buying it but I figured it was worth having same thickness of all my cookies and I now will not use any other roller for this! There is no way to get around this and you just plan accordingly. I like the fact that they give you many choices for thickness too. The wood was not the smoothest either. I put some food-grade mineral oil on it hoping it will keep it from drying out too much.

July 20, 2017
The marble is real pretty and quite heavy which is nice. The rod and handles though are a little lacking for want. The handles were put on crooked and just doesn't spin very smooth, easy fix, but it would have been even better buying it at 100% function.
product color differs
July 10, 2017
this product is ok,i liked that it was real, sturdy marble however i was expecting it to be more white, i made this purchase because i'm using it as background for a food blog, so i needed white marble for my photos. What i received did not look like the photo on the box it came on, i received a moderate gray pastry board with some white in it. I understand since it is natural marble the color may differ, i expected white with gray, what i received is mostly gray.
Product works well when a wire is properly attached. Poor initial product packaging.
October 18, 2016
Item arrived with a broken wire partially attached. It came with two replacement wires and no directions on to how to install them. Without the benefit of seeing an initial wire attached, I had to use logic to figure out how to attach the replacement wire. After looking and photos of the product I was able to figure out how to attached the wire. Product works well when a wire is installed. I believe the broken wire was due to poor initial product packaging. It looks like I will be making a follow up purchase of Replacement Wires for Compact Marble Cheese Slicer (Green or White)--Set of 4 soon.

May 20, 2016
This is a nice cheer slicer however it takes a bit of time to learn to arrange your block of cheese to get the thickness you desire. For most people an adjustable hand held cheese slicer would be a better choice. This unit does come with two additional easily installed stainless wires for replacement. One other thing, cleaning is tricky as you have to clean that fine little cutting indention (used toothbrush works best) and then you have to scrub the wire itself with soapy water. The marble part is a bit heavy for all this.
It was not packaged well and had chipped edges.
December 31, 2015
I like it. I was a little dissappointed because it had chips on the edges of two sides. I am just using it for rolling out polymer clay on, so I decided not to mess with returning it. But, but if I had been purchasing it to display on my kitchen counter I would have been upset with the purchase. Also, I came across really cheap marble tiles at Lowes last week and kicked myself for not checking there first. I would have saved 15 bucks! Well, you live and you learn!
Wife is happy
January 28, 2013
My wife asked for a rolling pin for Christmas and I bought this one because she didn't want a wooden roller again. She is satisfied with it and it seems to be pretty good quality except that the hole for the handle is drilled pretty far off center and it "wobbles" when you roll it.

Not Very Impressed
September 23, 2014
I purchased this rolling pin to replace an approximatly 50 year old wooden pin with handles that had cracked. I had no idea where to start to find a quality pin so I started googling rolling pins and tripped into this one. Seeing that it had been recommended on Pioneer Woman's website helped with my decision. The Joseph Joseph rolling pin is 16 1/2 inches if you include the knobbies on the ends. The rolling pin portion is actually on 13 1/2 inches. It's a good rolling pin if you need to roll out a small amount of dough, but what I found is that the "glop" of dough that I usually roll out is larger than 13 1/2 inches and when that's the case the knobbies cut in to the dough. I also found it nearly impossible to roll out a circle with this rolling pin and seems to work better if you intend to roll out rectangular portions of dough. I considered returning it, but I did like the option of measuring the thickness for the dough for things like won-ton wrappers, noodles and such like that, however the same day it came I immediately ordered a JK Adams french rolling pin. I would not recommend the Joseph Joseph adjustable rolling pin if you intend it be the only rolling pin that you have.
No half inch mark - common with all brands
April 26, 2014
This rolling pin works as expected, except - why no half inch wheel? It would be so easy to implement, but I have found NO rolling pin that adjusts to 1/2 thickness. So, don't expect to be able to roll out scones and such, it just won't go that thick.

Mediocre quality.
May 24, 2017
Disappointed. The color of the item received is VERY different (almost all gray). Forget the "slight variations" in color nonsense. Has a rough bottom instead of felt like similar items, so as not to scratch a countertop. Has a PLASTIC film over it to give the impression of polished marble! A small portion of the film was peeling off. The rough internal surface is fine but there is a shallow hole or depression in the middle that allows things like peppercorns to not be fully ground. Better products available for the price.
Space in bottom of unit precludes efficient grinding.
May 17, 2017
The item I received had a depression nominally 0.5” diameter and 0.1” deep in the center of the mortar providing safe harbor for ingredients, and the pestel had flats at its tip that never touched the mortar. In fact, they connected only at a latitudinal region about half way up from the bottom of each. Thus, the pestel never touched the mortar for most of its lower area. Rather than provide greater pestel to mortar contact than the typical version, it precluded contact, providing safe harbor for ingredients, and making it less efficient to the point of being essentially useless for the purpose intended.Whether the apparent lax shaping of the components might have led to some units being functional is anyone’s guess, but the one I received was not.

November 10, 2016
Disappointed I have a friend who Crushes and grinds his medication into powder to take nasally. I was never comfortable with him doing this in my bathroom because he would leave some on the sink counter and I have small children. I planned to use this so he could take it to the guest room when he was done. The item would look great if it didn't have multiple scratches in it that were coated over. Also the non slip rubber feet are more slippery then the item itself. I will replace those. 4 Stars if the scratches weren't there, 5 if no scratches and better feet.
Not for me.
October 11, 2015
I bought this for a gift based solely on the pretty color. But I wish I had gone with a different brand because honestly, this is very cheap. The wire was fine and seemed like a good quality, but the marble is horrible. Mine arrived with a crack on one side, but I was willing to overlook it because I really didn't want to ship it back. I immediately had to wash it to get all the dirt and junk off of it right out of the box, but more than that, there is some film on part of the stone that I can't get off. I tried washing and scrubbing and eventually used a regular kitchen sponge in an effort to get the gunk off, but after I dried it I noticed that not only did the stuff not come off but the sponge had left scratches on the surface. It's not like I was using a brillo pad -- just a regular sponge -- and it scratched the surface? If you're looking for something hardier, I recommend finding a different brand.
Poor quality control
July 12, 2014
Issue 1: Overall the product looks good. However, it arrived with a large chip on one side. There were no marble fragments in the box, so it is safe to assume that it was packaged in that condition. Also, it appears as if the edge sanding goes over the chip, which indicates that the chip was present prior to the final polishing process.Issue 2: One would expect a board that is designed for rolling and manipulating pastry to have heavy rubber feet that prevent it from moving. No. The feet are small, hard plastic nubs and do not grip the counter top at all.I will not send the item back as it is not worth the hassle and expense. Instead, I will replace the feet and keep the chipped side to the rear.
great size, but don't like the feet
October 17, 2013
The ceramic feet are not friendly to laminate counter tops. Also, the board is slightly bowed and wouldn't sit levelly on the counter. I fixed with some rubber bubbles used to cushion doors, etc. The color is gorgeous.update 22 October 2013 - I downgraded the rating because neither of the long sides of the board are unfinished; about a quarter of an inch on each side are dull unlike the rest of the board. if it wasn't for the hassle of returning due to a lack of shipping packaging (box fell apart when I took the board out) I would return it. I can't guarantee that the board would arrive in one piece.

When we first saw this and other Joseph Joseph items we out of the country and decided to purchase one through Amazon. We are just now using it for the first time and the return time has expired, but we find that the wood roller pin has a chip and scratch on it. The flour and dough get into the damaged surfaces.
A Great Disappointment
November 13, 2014
I am very disappointed in this rolling pin!!! It is way too short when you go to rolling out a 12 or 13 inch round of dough. The disks run over your dough because the pin is way too short. I will go back to using my French rolling pin. I was really hoping for a rolling pin that would help keep my pie dough uniform. Don't waste your money, unless you are only going to roll out small widths of dough.
gimmicky
February 12, 2013
this rolling pin is very cumbersome to use. typically when i'm ready to bake/cook/use a rolling pin, i just want to whip it out and start using it. you cant do that with this one because you have to figure out the thickness you want, unscrew the guiders on the end then use them. this also limits the size of the dough you want to use because the thickness guiders roll over and cut off the dough. you'll be better off using a regular rolling pin and getting a ruler to measure thickness if you're really concerned with it.

Poorly made;powder gets onto the food
July 1, 2017
I received the replacement; it has the same defects, and I am returning it. I tried to grind some seeds and herbs, and the rough sides of the mortar shed off as fine powder into the food. Yuck! This is an update. A further problem is that the drill groves on the interior still exist; the sides are not well polished. Hence, I fear that small particles or marble dust may chip off when I use the pestle and contaminate the herbs, seeds, or other items. I am returning this and hoping that the replacement will be better. I obviously am disappointed. The interior bottom is not really concave, flat, or smooth; is rough, and has a further small indentation which the pestle cannot reach. Hence, small seeds/leaves cannot be properly ground. I have never had a mortar like this before; all my other ones had a smooth interior bottom.
Broken

Arrived broken. The handle was off and loose and the wire was snapped. The wire was pretty flimsy, and it did not have two spares as promised. And on top of that, it was a bad chip in the corner of the groove.
Don't take a chance with this brand
April 16, 2017
This was the second time I ordered it. First one was for a friend and I had to return it because the plate had a crack. The replacement was okay. I decided to order one for myself but now I am returning it because it arrived with a bent handle and a broken wire and it was impossible to change the wire with the replacements provided because of the bent handle. I'll order another cheese slicer but it won't be THIS brand. Another thing: it did not come with instructions as to wire replacement. Shoddy. If you want a cheese slicer look for one by a different manufacturer.

Great rolling pin action BUT...it only lasted a couple of uses. We have used this rolling pin to roll pizza a couple of times and today my wife used it to roll out a pie crust. She place it into the sink and it snapped in half and it was NOT dropped or abused. Amazon's return policy expired so not sure what to do now other than to eat the cost and get a new one (different one of course). It looks like it was weak because of a vein in the marble and simply snapped in half. It was a waste of money. The last synthetic rolling pin we had lasted 10 years until the bearings wore out. Beware of this cheap marble as it might snap in half on you too.

I was pleased by the quick service I got and the price was great. It was exactly what I expected. I always like to shop Amazon for those reasons.

Didn't work as well as I hoped.
Don't waste your money.

Very disappointed. The one ring which I needed most (1/8") was not included with this rolling pin set. Instead, a ring for 1/6" is furnished. Never saw a recipe calling for 1/6" thick dough.
