Five Star Reviews: | 80% Great product! Genius. June 8, 2017 Bought this for my friend who is a baker by trade. She LOVES it! She says it saves her time and dough always even so cookies bake evenly. No guesswork. And she's not just saying that bc I bought it for her, because I see it out and used on days I'm not in the store (I volunteer in her bakery! As everyone else said, MAKE IT LONGER. Be sure to keep the rings in a ziploc or they'll get lost Awesome rolling pin!! May 2, 2017 I love this rolling pin! I wanted one so bad after making cookies for Xmas in Nov 2015, when I saw it on here. I was done with cookie making, so I waited and purchased it later on. I'm so glad I did! Made making cut-out cookies and other rollout doush so much easier. No guesswork on the thickness, just pick the measurement you want and go for it. Only thing missing from this is a 1/8 inch meaurement, since they have thickness of 1/16-inch, 1/6-inch, 1/4-inch and 3/8-inch off the work surface...but that isn't enough of a reason for me to take a star off. Good quality as well, well made. I will buy more products from this company for sure. Great price, great qualify, great rolling pin! May 2, 2017 This is so cool! I needed a rolling pin really bad, because I didn't have one and I was using a wine bottle as a rolling pin... Heh heh.The price on this product is excellent, and I LOVE that it has the removable rings so that I can roll out my dough without needing a pesky ruler nearby. The wood is really nice and I was surprised by the quality of this rolling pin. Remember not to soak the wood or immerse it in water for a long period of time and dry it as soon as you are done washing it. The instructions recommend oiling the wood lightly after each wash, and I would recommend that too. Feels and looks like a work of art! October 25, 2016 The wood was a little dry when it arrived so I treated it with butcher block oil and wow, what a difference! I'm almost going to feel bad about using it. Almost. I'm not going to feel bad when my friends get jealous about what a nice rolling pin this is! The measuring marks on the body are subtle. The little plastic discs feel very solid, and they're stamped on either side with both inches and millimeters of gap that they add. I can finally roll a nice even crust! Amazing! May 18, 2016 Bought one for me and ended up buying 3 as gifts. Wow. Rolling a nice, even pie crust (the bane of my existence) has never been easier! If you're rolling out especially long or wide dough, you do have to be careful not to roll the ring across the edge - but I'm talking extremes. You won't run into this problem with the majority of your baking projects.Just one tiny thing: Looking at it, you think there is every size for any thickness you could possibly want. However, I wish there was a size for a good cut-out cookie dough. I often use intricate cookie cutters, and the thin cookies tend to break easily, whereas thicker cookies are a bit too thick. Yeah - can't be perfect - and I happily accept the trade-off! Getting those nice even crusts is far more important!!This is in my daughters' horde of kitchen stuff for when...ehem...they move out. I think I'm in love October 28, 2014 I didn't think it was possible to feel this way about a rolling pin! I make a LOT of cookies. And the most annoying part of it, to me, is baking my cookies and finding that they're different thicknesses, or slanted. This solves that problem. Just roll out your dough with the thickness ring of your choice on either end, and that's it. Make sure that the largest ring on either end is the one you want to use. Like if you want 1/4 inch thick cookies, make sure you remove the 3/8 inch ring. Duh, I know, but that bit of information may actually be helpful to someone. You might want to buy some food grade mineral oil to rub it down with before using. I find that it gave it a nice finish. If you're used to using a traditional rolling pin (like me) you may find that there's a tiny learning curve when it comes to using one like this. But I promise, it's not difficult once you get used to it.I could see the thickness rings getting in the way if you plan to roll out a large circle of dough, say for pie or pizza crust. But if your primary usage is for rolling out sugar cookie dough, go for it. It will change your life. | 0% There are no reviews yet | 67% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet |
Four Star Reviews: | 12% Pretty good but has a learning curve. August 12, 2017 I love the ability to be able to have just the thickness I need for whatever I'm baking. The only problem I've had is the lack of handles and the fact that you can only have the length of the roller. Definitely takes some getting used to and not something I thought about until I started using it. I've gotten used to being able to run the rolling pin in every which way and that doesn't work with this.I will say the lack of handles is weird. Maybe if they made handles instead of the green end it would make it a little easier to deal with. Not long enough November 29, 2016 I liked the idea of discs to help with rolling dough to different thicknesses. Unfortunately, these discs restrict how big a piece of dough can be rolled because the length of the pin itself is too short. For a single pie crust it will work fine. But for anything larger the discs need to be removed in order to finish rolling the ends. Design flaw... November 20, 2016 The idea behind this rolling pin is brilliant. There is a design flaw. There are no handles to hold onto while rolling it so it is hard to keep constant pressure. I'm admittedly not using it for dough. I'm using it to roll out clay to make ornaments - I so liked being able to pick a size and hoped to roll it consistently. But having to press down on the round part of the rolling pin and roll it with your hands makes it difficult to roll evenly. Perhaps with dough it isn't an issue. But I love the idea behind it. Rolling Pin with Limitations October 3, 2016 This is a very helpful tool in my kitchen. I believe every home baker should have this rolling pin on hand. It takes the guesswork out of making cookies, donuts, pie crusts*, and so much more.It does have some limitations. It's not wide enough. *This makes it difficult to roll out pie crusts for typical 9" and 10" pies, which require crusts that are 14"+ in diameter, but for a "bar pie" that goes in a rectangular dish, this is a great tool.Tea cakes and sugar cookies are a breeze to roll out with this pin. My aunt borrowed this rolling pin to make 6 dozen tea cakes for a wedding, and they all turned out beautifully. The tea cakes weren't uneven, they were perfectly flat, which helped them cook more evenly during the baking process. This tool can be used to laminate dough for French pastries, such as croissants and puff pastry. It can be used to roll out dough for pasta, which has been a great help for me, due to the fact that I don't own a pasta making appliance. My tapered rolling pin still has its place in my kitchen. It picks up the slack when my adjustable rolling pin can't handle a job.Overall, it's a decent product but could use some redesigning.I've attached a picture of my Aunt's lovely tea cake recipe! It's great and very simple. I recommend decorating with a buttercream or royal icing. Enjoy! Almost-perfect rolling pin for rolling out dough. January 7, 2016 This is a great rolling pin. I love being able to scientifically roll out my dough evenly. I realize it is cheating . . . but I like cheating when it means better results (and saving me energy). :) I use it mostly for pie crusts and Christmas cookies. It is perfect in every way . . . except that it doesn't have the actual size I use for the cookies I make each Christmas (and it is a REALLY standard size, 1/8 inch). If it had the ring for that size, it would be five stars. If you never need that size, it IS five stars. I'm thinking of just making my own ring for that size. I love the fact that it really helped me make even ... December 28, 2014 I love the fact that it really helped me make even dough for my cookies...that is why I gave it 4 stars. The missing star is because you can only roll out a long section that has to fit between the end rollers. I figured this out before buying it but I figured it was worth having same thickness of all my cookies and I now will not use any other roller for this! There is no way to get around this and you just plan accordingly. I like the fact that they give you many choices for thickness too. The wood was not the smoothest either. I put some food-grade mineral oil on it hoping it will keep it from drying out too much. | 0% There are no reviews yet | 14% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet |
Three Star Reviews: | 5% Needs to be able to roll thicker dough January 12, 2017 Could be a good product but the maximum thickness is 3/8". OK if all you ever want to do is pie crust but worthless for biscuits or anything else that could use a 1/2" or greater ring. I get the concept but it is useless for large circle shape dough i ended up taking ... October 22, 2015 I get the concept but it is useless for large circle shape dough i ended up taking thickness sides of completely Not Very Impressed September 23, 2014 I purchased this rolling pin to replace an approximatly 50 year old wooden pin with handles that had cracked. I had no idea where to start to find a quality pin so I started googling rolling pins and tripped into this one. Seeing that it had been recommended on Pioneer Woman's website helped with my decision. The Joseph Joseph rolling pin is 16 1/2 inches if you include the knobbies on the ends. The rolling pin portion is actually on 13 1/2 inches. It's a good rolling pin if you need to roll out a small amount of dough, but what I found is that the "glop" of dough that I usually roll out is larger than 13 1/2 inches and when that's the case the knobbies cut in to the dough. I also found it nearly impossible to roll out a circle with this rolling pin and seems to work better if you intend to roll out rectangular portions of dough. I considered returning it, but I did like the option of measuring the thickness for the dough for things like won-ton wrappers, noodles and such like that, however the same day it came I immediately ordered a JK Adams french rolling pin. I would not recommend the Joseph Joseph adjustable rolling pin if you intend it be the only rolling pin that you have. No half inch mark - common with all brands April 26, 2014 This rolling pin works as expected, except - why no half inch wheel? It would be so easy to implement, but I have found NO rolling pin that adjusts to 1/2 thickness. So, don't expect to be able to roll out scones and such, it just won't go that thick. | 0% There are no reviews yet | 5% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet |
Two Star Reviews: | 1% Wife is not pleased with it February 6, 2017 Wife is not pleased with it. The handles were tough to get off, and it does not work well with fondant. Rolling pin December 25, 2016 It's a nice size and weight, but don't like the fact that the size guides loosen off while rolling dough good product -- disappointed in seller January 8, 2016 I'm sure I would have LOVED this but had to return it since one of the discs was missing. Not a product disappointment but a seller disappointment for not checking that all the parts were in the package. When we first saw this and other Joseph Joseph items ... November 19, 2014 When we first saw this and other Joseph Joseph items we out of the country and decided to purchase one through Amazon. We are just now using it for the first time and the return time has expired, but we find that the wood roller pin has a chip and scratch on it. The flour and dough get into the damaged surfaces. A Great Disappointment November 13, 2014 I am very disappointed in this rolling pin!!! It is way too short when you go to rolling out a 12 or 13 inch round of dough. The disks run over your dough because the pin is way too short. I will go back to using my French rolling pin. I was really hoping for a rolling pin that would help keep my pie dough uniform. Don't waste your money, unless you are only going to roll out small widths of dough. gimmicky February 12, 2013 this rolling pin is very cumbersome to use. typically when i'm ready to bake/cook/use a rolling pin, i just want to whip it out and start using it. you cant do that with this one because you have to figure out the thickness you want, unscrew the guiders on the end then use them. this also limits the size of the dough you want to use because the thickness guiders roll over and cut off the dough. you'll be better off using a regular rolling pin and getting a ruler to measure thickness if you're really concerned with it. | 0% There are no reviews yet | 4% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet |
One Star Reviews: | 2% Looks very pretty but doesnt work November 8, 2015 Looks very pretty but doesnt work, I tried it on cookie dough and it sticks to it cause of the wood texture, I tried other kinds of dough and it was the same result :( I want my money back I was pleased by the quick service I got and the price ... June 28, 2015 I was pleased by the quick service I got and the price was great. It was exactly what I expected. I always like to shop Amazon for those reasons. Don't waste your money. September 3, 2014 Very disappointed. The one ring which I needed most (1/8") was not included with this rolling pin set. Instead, a ring for 1/6" is furnished. Never saw a recipe calling for 1/6" thick dough. | 0% There are no reviews yet | 10% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet |
