Digital Photo Frame
August 26, 2017
The digital photo frame worked right away without any "set-up", just plug in a USB thumb drive with .jpg images. Some of the images have been edited and therefore display sideways or scrunched, but there are 3 settings for images, so I may be able to overcome the present display without having to re-edit the photos. The On/Off switch works slowly (probably a inexpensive (slow) processor. Overall, it's exactly what I was expecting and this one is a fairly low price!
i like this!
June 21, 2017
I just gave this as a gift to a coworker. I was looking for something inexpensive and simple so she could see her photos while working. At under $40, this fit the bill. It is certainly not as fancy as more expensive frames but it does what it should. It's extremely simple to use. My only complaint is that the resolution is not the best but if you are not looking at it up close (which typically you wouldn't with this type of frame), the photos look great! My coworker loves it and has been bragging about what a great gift it was all day.
Price is great for, resolution is good.

First one I ordered was defective. Prompt replacement by seller and very happy with the quality and price.
i am delighted! not an expert on picture quality
May 31, 2016
i am delighted! not an expert on picture quality, but they look great to me! maybe it is the bigger screen size, but my pics have really come alive! also it does a great job of automatically resizing to fit the screen. several of my pics wouldn't display properly on my old quantaray and they do fine on this one. some of the info here says 4GB, some says 2GB - it is 4GB. the stand gives me no problems. i am no techie and i thought it was easy to set up. the warranty is 1 year. and best of all - if you have a question you can call aluratek and quickly talk to a REAL PERSON who is courteous and helpful. YAY!!
Other reviews are out of date
February 4, 2014
Many of the other reviews are out of date. There is no time feature, internal storage, or auto-on/off. It also now automatically plays media when inserted. Not much to say about the randomization feature, it seems to play the pictures in the same order in which they are on the memory card.the 800x600 resolution is good for people who are going to add pictures from a point and shoot camera, since that is their typical resolution. Other "widescreen" frames aren't the right aspect ration - you're basically paying for extra screen. The pictures look just fine on this. For the price, it's not an HDTV, it just shows pictures. How discerning can you be? Not sure why someone listed as a con that they needed a writer for their SD card. Of course you need a writer. I use a thumb drive; yes it sticks out. There is only about an inch from the USB interface to the edge of the frame, so you can live with that, or use a low profile drive, like the Cruzer they sell on Amazon.it's really a basic unit. There is a screen, a stand adapter, and an ac power source. There are two menus, one for photos (sizing, stretch, etc), and one for basic settings (brightness, contrast, etc). Is it a top of the line model? obviously not. does it get 5 stars for having the features it does at this price? yes it does.
Awesome Digital Picture Frame
December 29, 2011
We use this particular digital picture frame for a counter-top video display in all of our participating retailers. We've created a 2 minute company video that we load onto a 2GB SD card. Then all we have to do is purchase this frame, insert the SD Card and voila! a super cool video display that gets lots of attention. We've tried several other brands and sizes but this one has been the best size and has stood the test of time. The stand is sturdy, the product is reliable, the video resolution is wonderful, the retailer can choose to have the audio playing or not and the SD card can start easily without a lot of menu surfing.I highly recommend this product.

Thinking of you wherever you are
September 19, 2016
Do you have an older person in your life?Someone a fair distance that doesn't really 'do' technology? This is perfection in a box.Purchased this for my grandmother's birthday. She's 93, doesn't really do tech and the family is all about so this was a perfect gift. The screen is beautiful and sharp, the device itself is tough and solid. The 'stand' cable is a bit odd but once it's up it's pretty up.I love the online features - I provided emails to all of the family and we load them up with selfies and video messages for her to see and they download and flow through without her touching a thing. And it's nice for her to be able to see the family regardless of how far.
Great for Parents and Grandparents
January 16, 2016
This frame is not just the run of the mill digital frame. It does just show digital pictures but it's how you get them to the frame that is the best part. I have bought 2 of these frames now and it's because I was happily surprised at how easy it was to us.I bought this for my in laws and now my parents to share my families life as it happens with them. If we are at the zoo, on vacation, or just at home and take a picture of something our kids are doing with our phones we just instantly send it to the frames that are at the in laws and parents house. They LOVE being able to come home frome work and see what their grandchildren have been up to. They have said it is something they look forward to. With the phone app sending pictures is effortless so it's not a chore to send them it just becomes something you naturally do. I do not pretend to be in anyway a technology genius so the fact that it's easy for me is a good sign that you could easily setup and use the frame. If you have family that you do not get to see often or live in another state this is a great way to make them feel that they are still a big part of your life. With how easy it is to use I believe that is was worth every penny and I do think I will purchase another one in the future.

What a fantastic purchase. I thought this item will use a usb or memory card for displaying pictures but i was wrong. This digital photo frame uses a cloud system. After setting up a account on nixplay and linking your photo frame to your home wireless wifi, you are able to upload your pictures anywhere around the world that has internet service. You can even upload your photos from your phone using the nix play app and display pictures on your frame instantaneously. I live a few miles away from my mother and I log on to her nix play account, upload pictures from my computer and she can view them on her photo frame after I press save. There is no need to physically be by a digital picture frame anymore to upload photos.Set up for nix play account was a breeze and if you are a novice tech. user, just take your time and you will be able to set up your account.I would recommend getting a bigger size, The 7 inch is way to small. a 10 or 12 inch model would have been preferred.
Great frame to keep new photos coming. Great gift for grandparents, family, etc.
December 29, 2015
I purchased two Nixplay frames recently and they have been great so far. Rather than having a standard digital picture frame you kinda forget about and never add pictures too, these are very easy to keep new updated photos going to your frames. I have the 7 inch Seed for my office. It is on the smaller side, but a great slim frame for my desk. I bought the 12 inch original for my parents who a few states away. The best part about these frames are the ability to easily add photos. Just had our first kid and wanted an easy way to keep photos coming to my frame and to my parents. With the Nixplay app (for iPhone or Android), all you have to do it snap a picture on your phone and send it through the app. It updates automatically on the frame as long as it's connected to wifi. The grandparents can get new photos daily with very little hassle. Photos can also be uploaded from your computer or Facebook, Instagram, or Dropbox accounts. You can also send invites to other friends or family to send pictures to the frames. You can have up to 5 frames per account and can designate which frame (playlist) to send pictures to.Set up was very easy. Plug in the frame, create a Nixplay account, link the frame, and start adding pictures. There are some features that allow you to control how long each picture shows, sleep periods where the frame will remain off, clock on screen.
I love this frame and their ability to send it pictures via email.
December 23, 2015
I've ordered 12 different picture frames from Nixplay because of the ease of getting pictures onto the frames. Most of those frames have been the 8" Edge. We gave one to my parents, one to my wife's parents, and then we decided to give them to other family members. I think the best purpose for these is to give people not living with you the chance to see pictures easily and have them be updated frequently.I think I still lean toward the Edge, but all their frames are great regardless. I'm using this particular one at work. I have restricted internet at work but this frame is still able to retrieve the pictures and display them for my enjoyment. I know the resolution on this isn't as high as the larger models, but I feel the pictures are very crisp for my own enjoyment and I like being able to show my interested coworkers the pictures. For where I use this (work cubicle), the 7 inch size is ideal. For home, I bought the 8 inch size frames. What I like most about this frame (or all the Nixplay frames) is that the setup is super easy and once setup*, no additional work is required. I just email pictures (or my wife emails pictures, etc.) and they show up on the frame. I also like that I can restrict who can email pictures so that I don't get any spam. Compared to the Edge, I like how the thicker cord supports the frame to hold it in place and lets you choose the angle; the cord is also a problem -- I have an 8" Seed in a room in our house and the cord is so thick it doesn't wind up easily. At work the cord is stretched out and out of the way; at home the cord is NOT stretched out and that makes it easy to catch it on things/feet and move the frame. The remote works very well; however, there's no obvious place to put the remote and this particular frame does not have buttons on the frame should the remote get lost.Although this frame has features to pull pictures from Facebook, Picassa, dropbox, etc., my wife and I have never used that feature. I think we prefer to select exactly which pictures show up on the frames and we do that by using the email method.* One odd thing about the setup -- I can set up everything BUT the frame's time zone using the web page. So, while I can set wake and sleep times, that's somewhat meaningless without being able to set the time zone for the frame.I'm normally pretty lazy about writing reviews, but Nixplay has offered a $30 Amazon gift card to write a review. "We're inviting you to share your experience, whether positive or negative, about your Nixplay Frame". As I had already purchased 12 different Nixplay frames, I don't think it's affecting the content of my review, but it is giving me motivation to actually write a review.
Simple to use and teach
December 14, 2015
I liked it enough for a gift that I bought one for myself. It is VERY simple to use and teach others how to use. I really enjoy that now all of the cousins can send pictures straight to our grandparents without a lot of work or making them go somewhere to find them. What I'd like to see enhanced is the stand. It will hold the frame up on its own, but if the rest of the cord doesn't have a 'natural' angle it tugs at the positioning of the frame.

Very easy to upload photos
June 6, 2017
Got this as a gift for my mom for Mother's Day and she loves it. Her second one and she said she prefers this one as it doesn't get hot after being on all day and night. Very easy to upload photos, just put them on an SD card and inserted it into the picture frame. One thing I did notice is some of the photos were sideways on the frame and I have no idea why. I tried rotating photos, deleting and adding again and nothing worked. That is rather annoying.

I got this for my son's grandma so she can have pictures of her grandson from when he was little to now since he is graduating high school and about to enter the Army. The basic instructions on how to put the pictures on and the modes is pretty simple. The only problem I found is that there is no way to change a picture around so it is not side ways or upside down. Changing on the memory card doesn't fix it. Other than that it is a nice digital picture frame.Aluratek ADPF07SF 7-Inch Hi-Resolution Digital Photo Frame
Nice BIG frame.
May 29, 2015
This is a nice frame - love the size. The resolution isn't quite as wonderful as I was hoping it would be. But it's a very nice frame. I particularly enjoy the built in memory, no need to use a memory card. Just plug into the computer and load the photos onto it directly from the computer. I'd like to delete a couple but so far haven't figured out how to do that - I think if I plug it back into the computer I can probably do it that way. I'd buy it again.PS - don't buy it from Walmart. I ordered it from them originally, and they sent a power surge protector instead....Twice! (it was quite a lengthy process-still not sure we're done with it, cause they sent an email saying they didn't get it back) I gave up and ordered it from Amazon.
Easily load photos and videos
March 24, 2015
PROS: Easily load photos and videos. Sets on a counter or hand on the wallCONS: the speaker does not allow for much volume. You cannot blend videos and photos in one viewing, the have to be viewed separately
Great for the Price
May 10, 2012
This is a great digital frame for the price. This image is vibrant and clear but you must have external storage; an SD card or a FlashDrive. I do wish that this product had internal storage. That would be wonderful. The frame must also be plugged in to be powered on. I'd much rather have bought a frame that was battery powered. This was a gift for my mother on Mother's Day. I know she will love it but I know it could have been better. The controls are very easy to manage and the directions are very simple to understand. Anyone could read and set this digital frame up. I did pay for one day shipping and it came very quickly. The frame was packaged very well. Everything was perfect.Pros:Crisp image.Cons:No internal storage. Not battery powered.
Solid digital frame for the money
January 3, 2012
Bought this as a present for my grandparents and have been happy with it overall. After inserting a memory device, it only requires a button press or two to begin a slideshow. I could not find specifications for USB drive requirements as far as formatting or size but it seems to be a little hit and miss. I have 2 8gb sandisk cruzers and neither of them worked for viewing pictures but I tried a verbatim store 'n' go and it worked fine. However, I didn't have any trouble with SD cards. The interface is nothing to write home about but it works fine. It will display an analog clock and calendar instead of pictures if you want. The display quality is good and I have no complaints there. The entire frame is plastic but doesn't seem too flimsy. Not like you'll be throwing it around. I didn't expect more for this budget digital frame and was pleased.

Great Gift, Easy Uploads
February 9, 2017
Bought three of these as gifts for parents and grandparents and they were a hit. I live out of state so it's nice that I can send pictures directly to the frame with the Nixplay app - much faster than printing out photos to put in a frame. The size is good, definitely wouldn't want anything smaller. The frame does not have a stand on the back but can be propped up by the stiff power cord, which can be kind of awkward.A little challenging to set up if you're not very tech savvy, but once you get the hang of it it's not hard to upload new pictures or manage the slideshow.
Easy and fun to use, but smaller than is best for across the room viewing.
January 18, 2017
Easy to set up. Easy to use app. Good quality color in the pictures. Easy to link multiple frames. We gave them as Christmas gifts to great grandmas, ourselves, and our adult children. It is fun to see what new pictures show up. Only negative is that this frame is really small for display and if the frame is set up to show vertical pics, then the horizontal ones sent to it are tiny, and vice versa. Get a bigger frame if you want to set it up across the room from you. Also, setting the option to full screen (fit the screen?) results in only part of the photo showing, so that setting was useless as we saw only knees or chests of people in pictures.
product ok. support is amazing
June 13, 2016
This would be a great present for an out of state grandparent, assuming someone can go through the hassle of setup for them.Pros: - can upload remotely to cloud storage.- clear enough picture- does only one thing and does it well. Not a tablet so it won't walk off.Cons:- photos are often poorly centered.- can't upload from cameras. Need app.- Needs yet another cloud storage with small (2016 standards) cloud storage quotas.- on all the time, motion detector settings don't seem to work.- bulky and pricey compared to basic android tablet.- remote is silly and easy to lose. What's the point if I already need to install an iphone app that could perform as a remote?TOP negative experience. Got this as a gift on christmas, but unusable b/c Nixplay servers were down.TOP positive experience. Had for year and hasn't broken.TOP Surprise. I actually dont miss the fact you can't load from media. We gather around laptop when needed.[UPDATE August 2016] I wanted to update photos for the first time in 6 months. I ran into 2 problems. Problem 1, I can't find the remote, so I can't update the nixplay wifi password. Problem 2: None of the email accounts I entered into the password recovery are recognized as known user accounts by nixplay's site. I've emailed their support and I'll provide updates on what happens next.To be fair, I can't blame nixplay for my mistakes. However, it brings to light some usability issues that make users like me "incompatible" with this product.Things I could have done to avoid this issue (1) Tape the remote control to the nixplay device. ( I think it might have gotten lost in a move ) (2) been better about storing credentials in my password manager. I did register the product and am actively using it. Don't know how I could have used anything but my normal every day email accounts.Things Nixplay could do to help avoid this situation: (1) require a just remote app, not require both a remote app AND remote control. (2) Provide single sign on with large services like google, Facebook, dropbox, etc. (3) Provide direct photo sync with services like google, Facebook, dropbox, etc. (4) skip the custom hardware solution and make a nixplay photo app for cheap, 7 inch touch screen[update August 2016] I had a very positive experience with support and am upping review to 4 stars. After i sent them photos of the serial number on the product, they provided a free replacement remote overnight. Resetting my credentials was a breeze. I'll try to add photos tonight.
Works very well, looks nice, and solid; power users will be underwhelmed
December 28, 2015
The Nixplay Seed 7 inch wifi digital photo frame is great for most people and purposes, but--for me--misses 5-stars for lack of features and customization given the relatively premium price.I bought this for a family member whom is facing Alzheimer's in a managed care facility a good distance away. The frame provides me the ability to send photos of the family to his frame any time even though I can't visit often. He loves the frame and, given his limited cognitive abilities, provides a no-touch solution to allow him to view pictures that would usually require a computer and social media (which, for him, is no longer an option). For him, this is a 5-star item. For me, on the other hand, I'm a bit underwhelmed, given that there are far cheaper frames on the market. There are very few features and no customizations for the frame. Such customization isn't necessary for the frame to function, but would have added a great deal to the usability of the frame, such as the ability to change the size of the text on the screen, or additional ways to show the day and time (look up "dementia clock"). Such customization would require very little programming, and there's no possibility that the hardware couldn't handle it, so it's a shame it's not been further developed. Additionally, while there is an android app, it's exceptionally simple, allowing only uploading and labeling of photos and nothing else. Additionally, had the frame been something for use in my house I'd have been disappointed with the screen. It's not bad, but it's certainly not what I'd call good; given that the purpose of the frame is for photos, it really should be higher resolution and have better viewing angles. The biggest disappointment is that I can't add a photo and know when it's being shown. When I bought the frame I thought I might be able to send photos while on the phone and be able to discuss them while they are on the screen. I suppose that was asking too much; unlike the missing features I mentioned above I understand that this would not be a simple thing to program (but it would be possible). When you add photos to the frame they simply go into rotation with all of the other photos, which means I can't say "did you see the picture of XYZ?" while on the phone. If this feature were added I'd probably forget every other gripe and call this the best thing to happen since sliced bread. A guy can dream, right?
This product is 85% of the way there. There is a lot of ease of use work to go, not much hardware work.
December 10, 2015
This is a cool product with a few small issues so far (I've had it for all of 12 hours). I think over time it will definitely mature and most of the concerns/issues I have are things that can be addressed by updates to software and the website. The Good:A connected picture frame you can actively attach to your online accounts and send pictures to, this makes it a appealing to give as a gift to parents/grandparents and keep them up to date with your life no matter how far away they are. It's basically an Android device with a skin that lets you show photos. The picture is a little misleading, there is no back flap/stand, you are seeing the front and back of the frame in the same image. The cord is stiff enough to act as a stand (it is a standard USB type A on the end and doesn't detach from the frame). The Weak:* I haven't had a lot of time to play with settings, but from what I can tell, there isn't a way to adjust the color balance on the frame and it is definitely shifted towards the blue end. I was planning on seeing if I could make a basic filter to apply to photos to color correct them for this frame, but that is an extra step most people won't want to do when they are just sending photos from their phones to the frame.* You more or less have to pick one aspect ratio for all photos going to this frame because if you send horizontal photos to it in the vertical it will take up a tiny fraction of the screen. You can choose to have photos auto scroll around the picture to fill the screen all the time, but who wants pictures bouncing around on their photo frame all the time. It would be nice if there was a way to auto-sort photos by aspect ratio.* The documentation in the box doesn't tell you much about how to get pictures on the frame. It tells you to go make a cloud account, but there "Tutorials" basically come as "Friend Messages" and don't tell me all the really useful information I need. You can DO a lot of the things you think you can (like emailing photos to the frame and having them automatically added to the active playlist by adding pl: PLAYLIST into the subject line of the email. Maybe anywhere in the email, who knows?), but it isn't obvious. I'm not sure what linking to Facebook/Picasa/Instagram/Flickr does and it doesn't look like I can find out easily BEFORE I decide to do it. (Why isn't there an informational box on the page before I link to an account)The End Result:This is still a work in progress. With a little pain, you can figure things out and a LOT of what you are SURE must be possible IS, but it isn't always easy to figure out quickly. This is important when many people will be giving these as gifts to family members that might not be technologically adept. I really hope there is a hardware setting to fix the color cast, or a way to auto apply filters to all photos in albums.TL;DR Sending a photo directly to the active Playlist:You can email a photo directly to the active Playlist if you know it's name. Make the subject line of the email with the photo attachment:pl: PLAYLISTNAME(where PLAYLISTNAME is the name of the playlist you want it to go in. I'm not sure if it is case sensitive, but I assume it is.)
WiFi makes adding photos a breeze - smaller than I expected

This is a great photo frame and particularly good in that it allows you to easily upload photos right from an app on your smart phone. It makes it easy to have the latest, greatest photo right there instantly among your other photos on the screen. The one disappointment is that this 7 inch model is hard to see from across the room. It is really best to use on a desk a few feet from where you are sitting. If it weren't so expensive, I would by the largest model.

August 11, 2017
You get what you pay for. This was the cheapest of all the digital frames and ultimately why I bought it because I was getting two to send as gifts. It was not easy to format pictures to work with the frame and took a lot of work. Also, sometimes would show loading picture in between photos and skip the photo loading, even if it had displayed the photo before without issue.
Good enough for the price.
May 30, 2017
Not terrible for the price. Frame is made of plastic and screen resolution is low. My main issues are it does not radomize the pictures or allow you to set it to randomize. You can only randomize the transition effects. I wish the wall adapter was longer. I had to reduce the quality of some of my photos for them to fit (I think max is 4k in either width or length). Menu is clunky but okay, but... it is just a digital photo frame. It does autorun either the sd card or usb stick when inserted. So overall...not durable or high quality, but it displays pictures good enough for me. Now let's see how lomg it lasts.
It's cheap so... it's cheap
December 28, 2016
This is a good digital frame for the price which is hard to beat. Of course with a low price there are always downsides. Out of two frames, one arrived with the screen cracked and since there was no damage to the box I assume it was packed that way. Apparently Aluratek has no quality control. I was able to get a full refund. The display quality isn't great and it's super weird that pictures over a certain resolution won't display at all. It took me two days of messing with it and googling to figure that out. Thankfully there are bulk photo resizers online. I definitely would recommend using a sd card over a usb because the usb would stick out the side. I also don't like that there's only set timings to display photos for. It would be nice to be able to manually choose how many seconds to see each picture for.
Works well for the price you pay.
May 8, 2016
Bought this as a gift for a friend. As a very basic digital frame, it works well. It has a reasonably clear photo display, though only from a limited amount of angles. The size is good. The frame isn't designed to be hung, so it is a great size and at a good angle to sit on a desk or mantle.I like that you can either use an SD card or a flash drive.I don't like that the controls are awkward to use (located only on the back), and that it starts the play from the beginning of the slideshow each time you power it on.I do like that it automatically plays without requiring you to adjust the settings (great for less tech-saavy users).Bottom line: it's worth the deal you get and I would definitely purchase again (for myself or for a gift).
That is pretty lame. But again
October 12, 2014
It was cheap, so I didn't expect much. It is on Random but doesn't randomize the photos, and everytime we turn it back on, it starts at the same place, no new order or sorting. If the picture is not already saved as rotated the screen will not automatically rotate the picture. That is pretty lame. But again. It was cheap. I will be looking forward to buying a new one in the future.
Good clear photos, nice unit fairly inexpensive
June 28, 2014
Note: I've only displayed photos via camera media card, I have not tried storing photos in the unitPros: Pictures show up very clearly, easy to show photos via camera media card (insert before plugging in power, then plug in power, slideshow starts), shows landscape and portrait photos in the correct orientation, it's a nice sleek-looking unitCons: Can't get it to vary the order the photos are shown in -- with random/shuffle it's still always the same sequence and not in any meaningful order, the fastest speed is 5 seconds -- I would have preferred a 3-second option, too, for faster slideshows, power cord is not very longI purchased 6 of these at one time as gifts, 5 of them worked fine but one did not work at all. I purchased through Best Buy online and they were great about sending out a replacement right away. For an inexpensive gift this worked out fine, if I bought another for my own use I would be willing to pay more to avoid the "Cons."

Cannot sent photos via email to more than 1 frame
March 1, 2017
Nice product, but with a major flaw.Overall, this is a nice product. Good looking hardware, useable website interface, many options. However, a major feature myself (and multiple other users, viewing the blogs on the Nixplay website) are looking for is the ability to send pictures to frames via email. When creating an account you are assigned a 'username@mynixplay.com' email address. You can use this to send emails directly to a frame. HOWEVER, if you have 2 frames connected to the account - for example, one frame for each set of grandparents - you would want each frame to have it's own email address, so you could send specific photos to each of the frames. SORRY, YOU CAN'T. You only get 1 email address. In 2014 a Nixplay representative wrote on the blog that this feature was in the development pipeline. It's still not available. This one missing feature makes this product almost unusable for me. (Maybe I need to create 2 separate accounts - one for each frame? I'll give that a try. Too bad you need to try workarounds for basic product features).

The concept is great, but I can't get it to work on my mom's wifi. I could have gotten a cheap one and achieved the results I'm getting now.
Frame is nice, but website to manage it is not easy to use.
January 23, 2016
The frame looks great and is easy to set up, but the website that you have to use with it is not terribly intuitive, or easy to use in terms of actually loading photos onto the frame. For instance, you can only "play" videos on the frame using playlists. Even though you can create albums, you cannot load those up to display them on the frame, which means that you have duplicate your effort, in a way, to play the photos that you want.
Arrived with seals already cut
January 17, 2016
Love the concept. Ordered one right away. When I removed the outer cellophane, I discovered the two seals had been cut before I received it. There's a warning on the seals to not accept it if the seals are broken. So now I'm sending it back and hoping the replacement has not been opened by someone else then repackaged. Once I get that and set it up, I'll write another review about how it really works.

DEAD PIXELS - BUYER BEWARE (not the best sentimental gift idea)
December 21, 2016
I would like to say it seem to have everything as advertised. but unfortunately there are dead pixels upon first use, and I get the cheapness in respects to materials, ie frame, plastic stand.. But one thing you need (bare-minimum) is a good screen for a picture frame. The picture quality is definitely high-def, but with little white dots in the screen, makes the product look crummy.
Returned it, big disappointment
February 28, 2016
I was iffy after reading the reviews on whether or not to purchase this item and I should have stuck with my gut. It was a huge disappointment. The frame was made of cheap plastic and I was unable to program it beyond the time between frames and the transition effect. And even the transition effect would not work every time no matter which effect I chose. Most of time it was just a big gray spinning circle in the middle of my image or green lines coming in from the edges. Don't know if I just got a bad unit but I still wouldn't recommend it, not worth the money. Screen quality was exactly what I paid, the inability to program it and user unfriendlyness is why I returned it.
It's almost like it has to take a minute to load the ...
January 25, 2016
The major problem I've been having with this frame is a weird sort of "screen saver" that pops up every few photos. It's a green screen with a circular arrow on it. It's almost like it has to take a minute to load the next photo or something. Very distracting. Then, I sometimes see that same arrow superimposed over my photos, then it will rapidly flick over 2-3 photos instead of waiting the full 30 seconds or whatever amount of time you have programmed to display.I contacted Aluratek customer service about the issue, and they were completely unhelpful. They told me to open the photos one by one in MS Paint and then save them again. What the heck is that supposed to do? Maybe that's their workaround to try to reduce the filesize or something, but they never explained. The filesize didn't seem to be the issue anyway, since some of my very high-res photos have no issues and some of the lower-res ones do have problems displaying. Also, like others have mentioned, I really wish there was an option to randomize the order of the photos.
Aluratek, never heard of the name, took my chances and lost....

The price was good but again, you get what you pay for. Easy to set up. Unfortunately, within 2 months The slide show would play and then after a few minutes would stop playing. I would re-set it. I checked the thumb drive in other devices and it worked on those devices. I would suggest going with a brand name. Paying a little more money is worth it.
Doesn't show all of your photos
March 22, 2014
I bought this because of the 800x600 resolution at a low price. Well, the resolution and price are indeed good. But this unit simply did not display approx 20% of my photos. The Aluratek support site infers that it might be due to size but that's not the problem at all; it barfed on SOME 100KB pics and displayed MOST 8000KB pics.. Over the years I've taken pictures with many cameras and scanners. This unit is picky about what it displays, so be aware that you may have to do quite a bit of photo processing to get your photos to work. If you are willing to do that, it's not a terrible unit though it does lack some of the nice features of the NIK units. My recommendation is to ignore the price difference and go with NIK. I have two NIKs and they perform flawlessly. You get what you pay for.
Amazon delivered :-) Aluratek didn't :-(

I purchased this for my Dad as a gift.Packaged nicely and secure, product arrived as promised. The frame material is acceptable (plastic and durable) and my photos loaded from the USB drive the first time with out issue, the resolution is poor (it is not "Hi" as listed on the website). After making a change on my laptop to the photo file on the USB and loading it back to the frame, it did not respond (as I type this I'm still waiting for it to load). I turned it off and on again still no response. Another minus is that it only has "external memory interfaces compatible with USB flash drive and SD/SDHC cards" NO internal STORAGE. The USB drive or the SD card will have to be attached at all times, which in this case the USB became very hot. I will return this product and yes the biggest hassle will be the process of returning it and getting my $$ back, it is worth it; this product DID NOT meet expectation.

Format was not useful to me. I returned this and purchased a more traditional 4x3 Nixplay device elsewhere.
NO Memory card slot. Requires use of THEIR cloud services.
December 11, 2016
Digital picture frame w/o the option for local memory card storage is a huge fail.I am "techie" and I understand and appreciate the benefit and unique feature of this digital photo frame being able to wireless connect and share photos over the internet. However, the addition of these neat WiFi/Cloud features should have NEVER excluded the traditional local memory card slot! I do like the unique kick-stand option for table-top display. The digital photo frame have a very slim and sleek design that is appealing. This device would be essential perfect if they added the additional option for a wall mount and flexible local storage.

Cool product but broke quickly.
May 2, 2016
Really cool product, but the remote stopped working after 2 days. I purchased as a gift for my husband so by the time he opened and began using the frame, the return window had closed. Tried replacing the remote batteries but alas... No such luck.
Didn't know it required wi-fi
March 16, 2016
I can't use it because it requires wi-fi............I didn't realize this so I'll be returning it for one that does not need wi-fi.
KNOW WHAT YOU"RE BUYING!
December 30, 2015
Even though I'm mostly satisfied with this product for myself, I'm writing a bad review because of all the frustration I've had giving it as a gift to others. There are some giant gaps in this product! If you are buying it for yourself and want to see your photos from social media, it's awesome!!If you are buying it for someone else and thought you could share the gazillion photos you have on social media, well, NOPE. You have to upload or email each and every picture to their account for it to display. I have many photos from the last 10 years on flickr, facebook and instagram, but I have to find all the originals to send to my family's account if I want to share them.Another option is to pair a family member's frame with your account. But then they will only get photos from you and can't add their own.I like the idea of the frame but lacking these features it's much less than I'd hoped for as a gift.

Don't buy this
May 17, 2017
I should have taken the bad reviews on their word. It was obviously a cheap version and not worth buying. I spent the extra $20 for a higher end 10" and am very happy with it.
Dead in 4 months.
March 10, 2017
I just wanted this for my office so I have something to show people of my family other than my computer screen. Well it worked for 4 months and has stopped reading media. so I now have the Aluratek setup screen to show people. So if your looking for a long term product look else-ware.
This is not the frame you are looking for
November 27, 2016
Whatever you do don't buy this one. I have tried many different ways to get videos to play and none of them work. I have converted all my videos to mp4, to mov, and to avi and this frame just keeps saying file not supported. The menu is horrible. You have to select from a vertical list and then without any prompting you need to know that you now must select from a horizontal list. Most of the time you will not know where you are in the menu. Also, many pictures are not showing up in the correct orientation. Some are, some aren't. You would think that it would be able to autorotate photos but that is probably asking too much from this. I am going to keep it as it is a gift for my mother in law and don't want to go through the hassle of finding a different better frame.
Aluratek Frame-not worth the hassel. Poor quality
February 16, 2014
I had this brand a few years back and it was just fine for the price, lasted about 2 years then died. I ordered this 8" and noticed as soon as I plugged it in, not good. Red streaks and highlights, obvious no quality control or checking of the frame in the on mode. So I sent it back, isn't Amazon great on exchanges and returns? Immediately got another one which is perfect. Great color and definition with a super price. I am happy now! Thank you Amazon for making this easy!Updating this review. I got the second frame, yes it worked great for about a week. It simply stopped working, yes, I tried to reboot it, nothing worked. I have sent this one back also.Save yourself some grief and do not buy this brand.
Don't buy this, spend a little bit more
October 18, 2013
I bought this because it was very reasonably priced. I've been using it for 6 weeks now, the first time I loaded it with photos everything went very smoothly. The second time, only about 5 of the 30 photos I loaded will show up. I've tried multiple formats, multiple storage devices. I even went on Aluratek's website to get help, this specific product isn't even listed on their page. I put in a ticket for support detailing my issue and never heard back.To make matters worse, I've just logged on to return it to Amazon and my return window has expired. I'm very frustrated and dissapointed. They have a slightly higher priced frame with internal memory that I've read is better but I'm going with a different company all together, they shouldn't be putting out this poor of a product.
Screen was tilted
May 26, 2013
The frame arrived and looked good at first. Then I noticed that the display are had silver trim around part of it. The "trim" was skewed a bit from the actual display area. I thought that maybe it was something "artsy" they had added, and maybe the pictures would be "plumb." No dice. The picture display was crooked, too. Conclusion: Whoever put this frame together at the factory installed the display area incorrectly. This was 4 days from Mother's Day (the loaded frame was to be a gift) so ordering something else was out of question. I had to get in the car and "go shopping," a thing I have detested since I was a child. I finally found a better frame (not just thin black metal, but wood-look, and with a bigger display area) at the sixth store (Office Depot) for about the same price.I returned the frame for a refund (Amazon was great) but I will never buy from this company again. I am disabled, so surfing through stores is very difficult. I wonder if Aluratek would refund my time, pain, and anxiety? Doubtful. How does a company's QC allow something so blatant to get in the box?

Ordered two one doesn't work
June 4, 2017
We ordered two of these with the anticipation that both sets of grandparents would each have one we could share photos with. One has been working fine so far. The other will receive photos but when we start to show the playlist out goes into a loading loop and shuts down.Thise is truly disappointing ill be processing a return in the next couple of days.
Didn't work
May 14, 2017
I bought this for Mothers Day and it didn't work. The remote wouldn't turn on even after replacing the battery which effectively made this useless. I requested a return but that still leaves me having to replace my Mother's Day gift for my mom. What a bummer.

January 12, 2017
Purchased as a Christmas present for my non tech savvy parents so that they could keep up with me and my sibling. First unit opened on Christmas morning was inoperable and couldn't get past initial screen. I returned that unit and received another one today. After trying to talk my dad through the setup over the phone it was clear that the second unit had the same problem. Will be returning it and shopping for a different brand. Step up your game, Nixplay, this is embarrassing
App doesn't work
December 18, 2016
This was a great product until the app stopped working. Now it is no longer worthwhile. I am unable to sign into the iOS app even though I have updated and my login credentials work from the website. The point of this product is for me and my family to be able to upload photos easily and conveniently from our phones. Without a working app, this is pointless for us.
Poor quality
December 18, 2016
Remote it came with didn't work, even after battery change. Sign of a great product right there.

February 3, 2016
Bought this as a Christmas gift for my parents. But the frame wouldn't download any photos. Contacted technical support multiple times with no resolution (technical support was slow to respond and very unhelpful). Ended up returning it. So disappointing.
