Five Star Reviews: | 62% Good Compact Product. Works Well September 1, 2017 Very good, especially for the price. I've been using it to process all of my garden tomatoes for freezing. It is fantastic. April 24, 2017 We processed over 125 lbs. of fresh garden tomatoes last year with the help of this product. It is fantastic. Indispensable recipe assistant October 6, 2016 Purchased this item from Amazon in Nov. 2010. Have used this mill dozens of times since then and have enjoyed the dishes it helped me prepare. Works particularly well in the prep for Vichyssoise. It is made of sturdy plastic, is lightweight and easy to handle and clean.Initial warnings that plastic is not suitable material for this untensil have been put to rest as I can attest to nearly six years of regular use.I recommend this to anyone looking for a reasonably priced and durable fppd mill.RSVP VEG-3 Rotary Food Mill, White Very inexpensive but surprisingly good quality October 24, 2015 I was afraid that this very cheap food mill wouldn't be of very good quality, but I was pleasantly surprised. The white plastic body is actually quite tough and we have had not cracks or chips after more than a month of daily use making meat and vegetable purees for baby food. There is a small card with a few rudimentary instructions, but no real manual. Assembly is easy if you remember that the screens must be installed concave side down. Also, we have found that it is helpful to give 3 or 4 turns in the normal direction, then half a turn in the "wrong" direction, to clear the screen. love it October 12, 2015 This thing is so great! With three different inserts, it is quite versatile. We grow a lot of our own fruits and veggies. I let our four-year-old twin grandsons "juice" some grapes in it and it did pretty well with the smallest screen. They boys were thrilled, anyway. I've used it mainly for getting tomatoes ready to make marinara and to make mashed potatoes. Since we harvested about 150 lbs. of potatoes from one of the raised beds,, and you can't freeze raw potatoes, I cook and mash them with butter and cream cheese. Then they freeze nicely in zipper bags, ready to use through the year. This year I tried something new. I scrubbed, but did not peel, the potatoes. Boiled them soft in salted water and then drained them and used the largest hole insert on the food mill. That was so fast! Yes, there are bits of peel in our potatoes, but that is fine with us.The trick with this is to move the handle backwards every few turns to scrape up what is on the bottom. Then you quickly disassemble it and clean it. Easy to do.It's sturdy, it fits a number of different size bowls, easy to assemble, use, and clean. Great design and I plan to buy others as gifts. food mill April 18, 2013 I read the other reviews, looked at prices and ordered this one. The shipping was fast , but it was not free shipping. Still, price wise with shipping I was happy. Great deal considering you get 3 sized grates. My first use was to do 5 lbs of potatoes. I cut them into somewhat large pieces, boiled them and put in the mill. It did a great job separating potatoes from skin. I have never used one before and learned quickly you must clean your grates every so often....it is quick and easy to clean. If you don't ,you start getting skins in the potatoes. I them put them in my Kitchen aid mixer and mashed up with butter , sour cream etc. I think it is faster and loose less potatoes than pealing. My next project and why I purchased the Mill is to make tomato sauce from the Roma's I have in my garden. Another review said they did a bushel and a half of tomatoes with ease. I need to be able to do at least that much at a time when the tomato's come in. Another thing is , which is pretty good I think, is it is not really that big. It will do a 1/2 gallon at a time filled to the top....I filled about 1/2 full. Cleans easy, and due to smaller size stores nicely. I may experiment with other things as I get more familiar with it's use. Like it a lot so far, simple device that functions well.. | 68% The Only Way to Make Mashed Potatoes April 15, 2017 RSVP Potato Ricer and Baby Food Strainer - White/GreenI bought this product because it was highly reviewed on an episode of America's Test Kitchen. It is essentially a really big garlic press. It is great for making mashed potatoes, which is what I use it for 95% of the time, but I imagine it would do a great job of processing/pureeing other foods as well. It is easy to use and does not place much strain on your hands. It also has an extension that allows it to rest over a pot, which is very useful. The plastic is sturdy, and it is easy to assemble and disassemble for cleaning. Perfect mashed potatoes March 9, 2017 I bought this particular ricer because one of the cooking magazines that I read had it as a 'top rated' product. I was not disappointed. The two mesh inserts are easy to exchange and I can make perfect mashed potatoes. it is handy to have the piece at the front of the ricer over-hang the bowl that you used to collect the riced potato. I usually fill it just 1/2 fill for best results. I highly recommend this product. Best mashed potatoes ever! November 27, 2015 This made the best mashed potatoes I ever ate. I got the recipe and the review from America's Test Kitchen and have so much enjoyed using this. For some reason it shows two discs for pressing but I only got one with mine, but I make do with it. It is also great for pressing hard boiled eggs for egg salad and the like. It is easy to clean. I just disassemble it and toss it into the dishwasher as soon as the dog has licked off the bulk of the food. Great November 24, 2015 This gave us the lightest, fluffiest mashed potatoes we've ever made. I tend to make 10-20 lbs of mashed potatoes at a time, and usually a reach a point where I have to stop mashing while there are still some chunks. This takes care of that problem. It takes a bit longer than mashing, because you have to feed the potatoes into the hopper after boiling (maybe half a potato at a time, diced). We chose this after seeing it on America's Test Kitchen, and it takes more force than I was expecting after seeing it being used on the show. I think they cooked their potatoes longer than we usually do. Its not a ridiculous amount of force though, slow and steady does the trick. The best May 19, 2014 Over the years, I've owned a few potato ricers, but they were either too small, or broke easily. But after watching a video review on America's Test Kitchen a couple months ago, I decided to order this handy gadget. It's everything and more, and I like the two sizes of grating surfaces. I've used this ricer for many more foods than just potatoes, such as multiple heads of garlic, whole cooked tomatoes, bananas for recipes, and even cooked veggies I wanted to puree and add to my stock pot but didn't want to get out the big food processor. Easy clean-up, too. I would buy this again, and if I were a young mom, it would be my go-to kitchen item for making baby food in small portions. GREAT RICER May 8, 2014 This is my first ricer, I bought it because it wasn't too expensive and it was recommended by America's Test Kitchen. I'm used to lumpy potato and thought I'd spoil myself and buy this.I used it yesterday for the first time. I filled it up completely with potato, but it was hard to use. I took half out and it was much easier. I was amazed to see my plate pile up with potato that looked like grated cheese coming out! I'm going to love this thing. It was very easy to clean, I washed it by hand, then stood it up, just to make sure there was no water trapped inside, after reading a reviewer's comment about that happening. I wish I bought this thing a long time ago. I'm so happy I will no longer be eating lumpy mashed potato! | 83% LOVE June 8, 2017 I love, love, love this rolling pin. I feel giddy whenever I am thinking about rolling out some dough and then I remember that I have this new rolling pin. I have only used it about 4 or 5 times since I got it and I have no complaints whatsoever. Beautiful rolling pin May 31, 2017 Beautiful rolling pin. Mine also had the label on it. I picked what I could off, then I rubbed the remainder with a paper towel with vegetable oil and it came off nicely. The perfect rolling pin. High quality, easy to use and a nice wide length. March 12, 2017 The perfect rolling pin. High quality, easy to use and a nice wide length. I was looking for a good pin that works on both noodles and pizza dough. this fits the bill! Not so long it does not fit in a kitchen drawer. The Right Tool For the Job November 28, 2016 As the saying goes, "you need the right tool for the job" This rolling pin is exactly what I wanted and needed to making rolling doughs easier and with better results. It feels great under my hands when rolling and I get good, even pressure with not a lot of effort. It did take a little practice to get used to not having handles, but not much. The surface of the wood is smooth, but still has enough texture to hold a dusting of flour when needed. This is going to be an important tool in my kitchen, making lots of delicious sweet and savory treats, while also helping to make memories for many, many years to come. It may even one day be handed down to my kids and/or grandkids, it's that well made! Love it! One Good Purchase. December 15, 2015 I had always used a standard roller (roll in the center and handles on each end) before purchasing the J.K. Adams roller. All I can say is WOW!I found it so much easier to roll the dough out. The 19" width provides plenty of roller to easily go in all directions and being able to place my palms on the roller (instead of trying to grip two small handles) seems to provide much more control of the dough thickness. I have already used it 6 time for holiday cookies and will be using it some more.VERY happy with this product. 8 stars! February 14, 2015 I am a professional baker and use this rolling pin everyday. I make and roll out bread dough, pizza dough, pastry crust, etc, and this pin has been luxurious to use. First of all, it's heavy, which means you won't need to exert too much force. Secondly, it's made from pure maple and has enough nooks and crannies in the wood grain to be beneficial for retaining enough flour to roll out dough and not stick. Thirdly, unlike tapered rolling pins this one is like a dowel in that it's all flat surface. Lastly, the flat ends are great for smashing nuts. Love it! | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet |
Four Star Reviews: | 19% Very happy with this mill January 26, 2017 Very happy with this mill. Large capacity, quiet. Was able to run 3 cups of berries through the mill at one time with out needing to stop and rinse screen before doing more.Grooved feet allow it to grip various size bowls. Cleaned up easily. Once you get the hang of it, changing screens is not difficult - just a little tight, which is a good thing. Tends to get clogged December 31, 2016 This food mill works well. We used it for tomatoes. It does tend to get a bit clogged, but I think that is in the design. It definitely works better when the weight on it is heavier. For example, when it is fuller, food flows through easily. When it is emptier, you can spin and spin and not necessarily process. Good but broke after two years. September 8, 2016 Cooks Illustrated recommended this food mill.Pros:Worked well for mashed potatoesGood value initiallyCons:Not so easy to disassemble for cleaning because of strong tension on spring. After 2 years, plastic holding the blade in tension snapped off, ending it's useful life.Though it did break after 2 years, expected it to. But I wanted an inexpensive but good food mill to figure out if I even liked this tool and if it was worth it for more perfect mashed potatoes. It worked well, but took up more room and was a bit more difficult to clean (just for mashed potatoes) than I wanted. After it broke, I switched to their ricer and am happy with that as it's better for the small amount of mashed potatoes we make. worked well September 8, 2016 put a large can of plum - San Marzano - tomatoes in mill using the fine strainer. turned the crank one way than the other.mill separated seeds and skins from tomatoes very nicely. worked well.destination is pizza sauce.I think letting tomatoes sit in the strainer and first drain some water out to be discarded, is what I'll do next time. This is well priced and it works fine. Person who write the instructions is talking through ... July 12, 2016 This is well priced and it works fine. Person who write the instructions is talking through his hat however. To mount the blade, you have to slide one end of the crossbar under one of the hooks at the side of the bowl. To get the other end hooked, "slight" pressure is NOT enough. You have to press down hard near the CENTER of the crossbar; the spring in very stiff. All in all, I'm pleased, even if capacity is a bit small. I really like the consistency of the potatoes after they go through ... December 4, 2015 I really like the consistency of the potatoes after they go through this mill. We use it mostly for making mashed potatoes. It's just a little light weight, so you have to hold on well when using or it slips around and off the bowl. Overall very good value and does the job. | 19% Works amazing for potatoes January 24, 2016 I purchased this item a bit over a month ago and have had the chance to use it several times. I have used it to make baby food as well as potatoes. The baby food was a miss for me at this point because it wasn't totally smooth. This was for a baby who was eating baby food for the first time so it was too thick. I will try it again when she is older but for now we will stick to the food processor. It is easy to clean and easy to put together and take apart. There are some definite pros and cons for this product.Pros:Easy to take apart and put togetherFairly easy to cleanPotatoes come out amazingBaby food will probably be OK for older babyCons:Product is large so its tough to fit in the dishwasher (main unit)Takes up a lot of storage spaceBaby food doesn't come out totally smooth Really good. I'd buy this again. September 15, 2015 Pretty impressed with this product.Used for the first time a few weeks ago, and the potatoes came out very smooth. So smooth, milk/cream was not even necessary for creamy potatoes.Love it. Would definitely buy it again.Saves the skins, so if the skins are bad - and sometimes the potatoes are sour, which means the skins are worse - you can toss them out. It's also easy to wash. Satisified - recommended by America's test kitchen August 12, 2015 Saw this as one of the best ricers for making mashed potatoes on America's test kitchen and since I trust them to make all my kitchen related decisions we decided to purchase. Does exactly what they claimed it would do, and well. Only gripe is that after throwing a potato or two in here you'll end up with mashed (but not riced) potatoes coming back on top of the plastic plunger piece. So you'll either want to throw that back into the ricer area or throw out (or if you don't mind it didn't go thru the ricer, into the container with the other mashed goods).Overall, satisfied. More Sturdy than the Famous Kitchen Store's Metal Variety November 21, 2014 Bought this to replace a metal one we used primarily to squeeze the water out of uncooked potato shreds (hash browns) and to make potatoes mousseline. After about a year of occasional use, the metal one was bent nine ways to Sunday. Bought this one BECAUSE it was made of plastic, and the construction is nice and solid overall.Only knock on it, and the reason I didn't give it five stars, is because getting the retainer ring/basket out to change the blades is a real challenge. My wife has to hold the ricer between her knees and squeeze the tabs, then jimmy the basket out. Not sure if it's just our particular unit; but that's not really a big thing. excellent product May 21, 2014 I only gave it 4 stars because of ONE design flaw, ie- the trap comes out which makes it EASY to clean separate from the rest of the unit (GREAT). BUT the plunger/masher is NOT removable and is AWKWARD to clean. SOO i modified mine and replaced the hinge pin/rivet with a stainless steel machine bolt and wing nut (4mmx30mm). i can now detach the masher and clean it separately, SO much easier. Note to any who want to do this as well, the pin is solid stainless steel and was REALLY hard to cut off and is a tight fit, but well worth the effort!! Maybe the manufacturer will see this review and make the change themselves, who knows? good luck! Glad I was warned about disgusting danger! thanks TL July 14, 2013 I am so glad that TL posted a review alerting potential buyers not to leave this ricer sitting overnight in water. That is because I would have done the same thing. Yes... some nights I just don't get around to washing out the potato ricer. If that sounds like you, then just be careful not to leave it soaking in deep water. Because I was forewarned, this disgusting danger has not happened to me (yet). Even if you don't soak it in water it is pretty easy to clean up the next day. I use a toothbrush to clean it up after making mashed potatoes. Also, do realize that you can pull the stainless steel perforated plate out of it to wash it.Otherwise, this really works extremely well to make light fluffy mashed potatoes. And the price is right. | 11% Classic chef's pin. June 12, 2017 This is pretty nice but needed a bit of touch up sanding. Not a lot to say about a hardwood dowel but its well turned. good for most things June 4, 2017 hard to roll pizza dough with but great for softer dough or light cookies Has a nice Heft to it...Needs a bit of fine Sanding but Very Pleased with Quality! :) January 31, 2017 I love the heft of this Rolling Pin, and the quality of the Maple is wonderful! It needs some fine sanding, but that's not a problem. It's real wood, so that's to be expected! Highly recommend this product to other lovers of baking! :) Works Well November 14, 2014 I bought this Rolling Dowel because it was recommended by ATK. I like the size and the weight of it. It works much better than the French style rolling pin because of the weight and the length, but given a choice, I would still go back to the old-fashioned rolling pin with handles. I suppose it's because I grew up using that style and feel like I have better control of the dough. This would be my second choice. It's quality. January 12, 2014 Ok, this is really just a big fat dowel and if you can find a maple dowel with at least a 3.5" diameter in HomeDepo, by all means, buy it and cut that yourself. But this is quality maple and does a much better job at rolling out pasta than the traditional 'handled' rolling pins. I think it was worth it. | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet |
Three Star Reviews: | 5% first try with Roma Tomatoes - not so good, the tomatoes are very firm September 8, 2017 first try with Roma Tomatoes - not so good, the tomatoes are very firm...and the rotary mill has a hard time with them It's good if you only plan to use once or twice ... August 25, 2016 Please note that you can damage yourself trying to put the spinner piece in as the plastic is very slippery while you are trying to fit 2 tight digits into small plastic sides. It's good if you only plan to use once or twice a year, but not on a regular basis. ok October 17, 2015 Product was deliver in good shape but not too crazy about the product bought it to do tomatoes but didn't seem to really do the job it does work great. It is a little larger than what I ... March 24, 2015 it does work great. It is a little larger than what I expected and you do have to change out the blades for different processes.I have not done much with it because I was only looking for it because I remember my mother using one when she made tomato soup. Hers was a little smaller and all in one pc(memories). It serves the purpose and it is built well. Works OK - September 17, 2013 I purchased this food mill to make homemade tomato sauce. I had trouble getting the plumb tomatoes to fit under the blade. It took some time but it eventually did the job. | 7% Get mashed potatoes that aren't too gluey gooey January 23, 2017 Takes a lot of squeezin' to get the product through. But, it's sturdy. Kind of a pain to change the blades and to get clean. Takes up too much space in the drawer. Have to process in kind of small batches and the final product is not totally smooth. But, I decided if people don't like a few tiny lumps, they don't have to eat my mashed potatoes. It does do what it says and the final product doesn't make the mashed potatoes too gluey gooey like whipping would. This is easy to use and to clean October 2, 2016 This is easy to use and to clean. I wouldn't say the potatoes come out super smooth like I like mashed potatoes, I would never use it for guests or fora holiday. But it's good for a quick dinner. Works decent for potatoes however I got it hoping it ... April 11, 2016 Works decent for potatoes however I got it hoping it would rice cauliflower. Does not work well for cauliflower or anything not potato in origin. Handles well and not too bulky and again stick to spuds. I would have given it 5 stars if.... March 24, 2014 This works great for making mashed potatoes or for pressing the water out of shredded potatoes prior to frying for hash browns. Unfortunately, the two piece construction (the green and white on the bottom half) are not well sealed and water gets into the unit when cleaning and sloshes around. If they had sealed the unit better, 5 stars, but the sloshing water that is difficult to get out drives me a little crazy. small compact March 7, 2014 Great for baby food, nor practical for large amounts of mashed. Nice compact switching out plates is little tricky. Made great fluffy potatoes, however for my large family and can only do about half large potato took a while. Works great March 1, 2013 I have only used the insert with smaller holes thus far, but it works great. You do have to ensure the potatoes are cooked thoroughly through, or it gets tough to squeeze (and the result not as good) but otherwise it is as advertised. Don't think I will be mashing potatoes again. We let someone else borrow it and now they are buying one too. Also, cleanup is a snap, and after seeing the review of water getting in it, I just make sure to clean it quickly and not submerge it.Update: someone else helped with cleanup after a meal, and thoroughly soaked it. Water got it inside, had to drill it out, complete design flaw IMO. Downgraded as a result. Boo :( | 3% Glue from sticker leaves mark. Sticker difficult to remove ... July 20, 2017 Glue from sticker leaves mark. Sticker difficult to remove. Dowel not very smooth will probably leave little slivers of wood in dough. The sticker does have Made in USA. The item description says; Origin China so maybe the wood is from China Three Stars December 31, 2016 This is a solid rolling pin. However, it takes sometime to get used to rolling with no handles. Almost Too Dented and Dinged Up to be Useful August 24, 2016 A nice concept with a great 2" chunky diameter and a great length for making soba noodles and other large shoots, but poorly executed. Mine arrived with significant dings and divots in it, which now get reflected in my dough and present an extra cleaning challenge. Do not expect a nice smooth surface, or anything close to it, based on my experience. Sanding Required August 30, 2015 This is my second J.K Adams rolling pin. The first one was a tapered model and I did not need to sand the rolling pin. The weight on this one I think will be what I need and it will work great once I sand the rolling pin with fine sandpaper. The rolling pin was not smooth when I received it and I thought of returning it but I think with fine sandpaper, I will get the rolling pin in great shape to roll out dough. Not sure what happened to this one. Very good. April 13, 2013 This roller was just as advertised. However, I wish it had some kind of a finish on it. I use mineral oil and it worked ok. It felt as though it was cut, sanded, and sent. Love the size and weight. I would probably buy it again. Effective but a bit hard to handle February 5, 2013 I got this on the advice of ATK. It does its job and rolls out dough nicely enough. I find its size to be too large for me though, and probably should have gone w/ a model with tapered ends. Might be because have smaller hands, but for me it's just too bulky | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet |
Two Star Reviews: | 5% Not impressed. Or maybe its just too complicated for me brain. July 26, 2017 Either I can't figure this thing out, or it doesn't work very well. Not reliable March 27, 2017 My main complaint is that this mill pushes food along and doesn't process it well. I am donating mine to goodwill - not worth the money I paid. Hard to assemble May 29, 2016 Fits well over several bowls and pots, with 3 sized holes, and comes apart for cleaning. But requires quite a bit of oomph to push on the top section. You need to press two points of the grinder top into slots without breaking a finger or 2.As far as function, I tried this on canned tomatoes with the largest hole piece and the result was less than exciting. Had to reverse then turn several times before most of the material was pushed through. If I hadn't used it I'd probably send it back. But will try using this on other stuff, although I bought it primarily for tomatoes.Basic material, though plastic, seems substantial. And of course the grinding plates are stainless.9/29/16 update:Hard to put together, does not mill well (poor function), hard to clean...would not buy again!! Didn't work for making a large quantity of tomato puree September 2, 2015 Based on reviews here, I bought this food mill in order to make marinara sauce from a large number of garden and farmers market tomatoes. I was very disappointed that I literally had to chop every tomato into tiny pieces to get them to go under the rotary piece. I also ended up having to peel the tomatoes before chopping because the skins clogged the mill immediately when turning. The few I got to go through the rotary did make a very nice consistency for my sauce. It would have taken me ALL DAY to do them that way, though. :( In the end I didn't use the unit for more than a few tomatoes - I used my food processor (after peeling and seeding each tomato by hand).I think the unit is well made and the pieces are fine, it just didn't work for what I needed it to. I can definitely see someone using it successfully for applesauce and baby food puree once the pieces of fruit are cooked and already chopped down.I'll be returning this item and looking for a larger food mill for my next canning project. I wanted to like this thing May 5, 2015 I wanted to like this thing, but it didn't work for me at all. I bought it for the purpose of making baby food. I used the finest setting, but ended up with a combination of water and small chunks instead of puree. (This was the case with carrots and sweet potatoes.) It also took 10 minutes of cranking to mash just a few cups of food, and there was a good amount of leftover waste that wouldn't push through the grater. This would have taken 30 seconds in a food processor, with much better results. Cheap, cheap, cheap August 29, 2011 I bought this for home made tomato sauce after reading the positive reviews on Cooks Illustrated, and on first use was immediately disappointed. The item is flimsy and did not effectively process canned whole tomatoes. After about 20 minutes of struggle, my wife walked in and said "oh, I have an old one of those from my grandmother". She dug out of the garage an ancient Moulinex metal food mill that must have been at least 40 years old and it worked beautifully. Sadly, these appear to no longer be available, but I can't recommend this model at all. I'll give it a shot for applesauce or mashed potatoes, but am not optimistic. It gets two stars primarily because it was relatively inexpensive. For what it's worth, I've made several purchases based on Cooks Illustrated recommendations and this is the first one that I haven't been happy with. | 3% Not impressed December 13, 2015 Purchased this to make mashed potatoes and went back too old methods for two reasons. First, it was very hard to change out the plates. Second, I felt that the plastic was stressed when I used it. It felt like it was going to break. I ended up having to take out potato to use. Wasted purchase. Might work better for other foods, but would not use again for potatoes. Its very bulky compared to others and the plastic handles make it feel like I am going to break it October 29, 2015 Not a huge fan of this ricer. Its very bulky compared to others and the plastic handles make it feel like I am going to break it. The different size plates are hard to change out and cleaning is a nightmare! The presser is level and that is a plus when getting all the food to rice evenly. Overall I would choose a metal model next time. Meh.... January 28, 2015 Like others have said, it has a rather small basin, and it feels like it is going to break when I squeeze potatoes through it. It works fine on regular potatoes, but don't even think about using it on anything else. I nearly burst a several vessels in my neck trying squeeze a dang skinless baked sweet potato through it with all my might. Finally, I just mashed it with a fork... Unwieldy, cumbersome November 30, 2014 Clumsy. Would not stay in position as I tried to prop it on the edge of the bowl--as it was supposedly designed to do. Holds surprisingly little amount of food. Poorly balanced; it wobbled in my hands, whether it was empty or full. If food gets on the handle (which is hard to avoid), the handle becomes slippery and even more awkward. Large size uses more storage space than I expected. Not for people with small hands July 17, 2014 This ricer is difficult for me to use. The handle is hard to grip because I have small hands. A more serious problem is that I cannot remove the inner sleave as directed by pulling the two tabs together and pulling it out. I have to pull the tabs while at the same time attempt to poke the point of a knife under the edge of the sleave and pry it out. This is very difficult to do and feels dangerous. The sleave has to be removed everytime the ricer is used in order to clean it. Oozes out the sides of plunger. June 6, 2014 I've owned several ricer-mills over the years. Some better than others. So when I read that this model was rated highly I bought one here. I don't see what the fuss is all about. While it's true that this plunger-press design is generally the better than the bowl-paddle-crank version, there are other models this style that do a better job. My gripe is that the food oozes past the plunger and up the sides of the bin. All models this style do this a bit, the RSVP does more than others I've owned. Additionally its bin is a bit smaller than others. Look around a bit before you settle on this one. | 2% Not smooth June 18, 2017 I bit disappointed as the rolling pin is not smooth like my other ones. There are some big rough patches on this one. Im afraid tiny pcs will get into the dough.Need a replacement. I dont feel its right that i have to pay to ship it back for your defect. ... pie maker and think a roller with handles would better suit me December 27, 2016 I'm a beginner pie maker and think a roller with handles would better suit me. Marked as "dowel" on package. This is not a rolling pin. December 27, 2015 This is not a rolling pin at all. The wood is rough and everything sticks to it. Would not recommend or buy again. Can't remove barcode sticker residue October 28, 2015 It works as advertised but I've tried everything to remove the residue left by the barcode stick that was directly on the rolling pin. The product arrived in a plastic sleeve in a box, so why couldn't the barcode sticker be placed on the sleeve instead? Be warned that this makes about 2 inches on one end unusable. NOT from Vermont!! September 9, 2015 I can't say as to the quality of the dowel but I can tell you this. I'm not sure how it can be handcrafted in Vermont when I just checked the tracking and it's being shipped directly from GUANGZHOU, CHINA. I guess that explains why I ordered it on August 29 and it's not slated to be delivered until September 29 at the earliest. So the info listed as to it's character and quality are not true. Disappointed. March 13, 2015 This product is a disappointment. Although I like the size , weight and feel as I use it, it started splintering after only a few uses. I take very good care of my kitchen gadgets, washed by hand and dried immediately, so I was surprised when I found rough edges splintering off about 2 inches from one end. I will not buy J.K. Adams wood again. | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet |
One Star Reviews: | 9% Poor Product May 8, 2017 Not sure how this was rated as a good product by Americas test kitchen. I tried milling some canned tomatoes and even with that I had to push them under the blade. The blade is too small to catch the food and there is no friction between the blade and the milling plate. What a piece of garbage and a waste of my time. Avoid this junk April 24, 2017 sorriest piece of crap I;ve ever come across. poorly made to the point that it can't even be forced to work! It is totally useless. Amazon says it is too late to return February 21, 2017 This was bought as a birthday present for my wife. It is totally useless. Amazon says it is too late to return. I could not make it work for her. Do NOT waste your money. Too small. Buy the bigger one. August 31, 2016 This food mill is too small for any practical use. If you have 2 cups of tomatoes to puree, ok. If you are trying to can or mill any amount of food, you will be cranking this thing for day! Disappointing August 30, 2016 This was very disappointing. I used the coarse disk and tried to run very fresh home grown tomatoes through it. All that came out was seeds and juice. I wanted pulp without seeds or skins. It required several pounds of tomatoes to even produce anything. worthless October 5, 2015 Got this to make spaghetti sauce. Spring on it is too tight, so it couldn't get tomatos under the spinner thing. Ended up having to moosh by hand, making this pointless. | 3% I got mine in the mail and there was a ... March 19, 2015 I got mine in the mail and there was a piece missing just the small plate was in there, I don't have the time to mess with sending it back, becouce I live in the country and it will take me 1 hour to go to the post office, so disappointing One Star March 13, 2015 Too hard to put the different plates in and one fell behind the washer after first use! I have not been able to retrieve it so now o only have one plate. UGH March 6, 2014 It bent and broke when I used it the second time. The cavity is small. Needed to create lots, and lots of small batches to complete the task. Waste of money as far as I'm concerned. Hard to use February 11, 2014 It's hard to use. I had potatoes shooting out the sides. It takes a fair amount of strength. I probably won't use very much. Too bad. Good to use, bad to clean January 24, 2010 As a potato ricer, this works well. This device is not, however, dishwasher friendly. It is composed of 2 mating plastic molded parts. The joint is not water tight, and it comes out of the dishwasher with lots of water inside. It takes days of shaking, draining and positioning to get that water out. You also would not want to immerse it. I think one could do better. | 1% Nice tool, boneheaded tag placement October 13, 2017 This rolling pin seems like a very useful tool. But the seller put a VERY sticky tag directly on the rolling surface, and it doesn’t want to come off. There are two flat ends they could’ve used, but no. It’s unfinished wood, so an oily cleaner like GooGone is a bad idea. Nor do I want to use a razor blade to scrape it off the wood. This is annoying and frustrating, and it was completely unnecessary. It’s going back. They must have run out of sandpaper in Vermont December 1, 2016 How did this get all the glowing reviews? That big spiel about handcrafted in Vermont -special wood--load of bull. You may as well go to Home Depot and buy a dowel and it would probably be finished better. The wood grain is not tight at all! It is rough to the touch all over. I don't know if you can see it in the picture, but I tried to show how it has an extremely rough and unsanded surface. I looked at reviews on cooking sites, too. This had good reviews there, too. Maybe at one time it was decent? I can't imagine anyone liking this now. Summary - open grain - poorly (if at all) finished - do not buy and do not be fooled by their spiel. Poor quality. October 29, 2015 Size and shape are fine. Quality of workmanship is another matter. I thought that J.K. Adams was a top notch company and I'm quite surprised by their shoddy work. The wood was not tight grained and I doubt it will hold up. The wood surface was so rough that I had to go out and purchase fine grit sandpaper to smooth out all the rough spots.I'm really beginning to question why I use Amazon. You can't inspect the product, you can't physically feel it in your hand, etc. It's a crap shoot at best. Slightly warped and a small chunk of wood out of it. February 4, 2014 I ordered this to roll pottery clay and found a slight chunk of wood out of it brand new out of the package. Decided to fill the hole myself, as I really needed it at the time instead of returning. As I began using it, I noticed that it is slightly warped also. Would have returned it for sure if I had not already filled the hole. Doesn't make a huge difference with the thickness of clay I am rolling(3/8") but would if I were rolling pastry. No adhesive residue please October 7, 2013 the rolling pin does a great job but I don't see why they would put a sticker directly on the rolling pin (dowel). I scraped off the sticker no I have a rectangular area of sticky adhesive where the sticker used to be. I have a tapered rolling pin and it came with the sticker on the bag. at the very least they could put a sticker on the end of the rolling pin contact the food. | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet |
