The weight of the mallet is about right to hold it comfortably and to give the target area a good punch. The mallet it too small for hammering in large dowels, but fine for small ones or other metal parts that need to be put in their place. Great price too, if it stays down. Slick little persuaderJanuary 10, 2017 Great little mallet. I have a dead blow and several other "persuaders," but this is my go-to for anything small that requires finesse. It's a nice weight too and can get into tighter spaces than my dead blow. The soft and hard sides are very useful. Just buy it. It works well for me and I was aware of its size before arrival as I has compared the measurements to a ballpeen hammer I have. I have not used it enough to speak to durability, but so far so good. When I was look at this hammer, I really thought it was going to be the size of the small brass hammers for gun smithing. This hammer is much bigger but I like it. The two ends come off and I guess you can put other types on but I have not seen any on Amazon. The hammer appears to be heavy duty and the handle has a rubber to help out with holding/grip. Both sides are "softer" than a steel hammer but are both rather rigid.
