The microwave arrived quickly without any problems. Satisfied.
Works well
October 17, 2016
The clock on the microwave tends to go out but that is not a problem for me since I have clocks everywhere. I really like the different light settings and the fan exhaust speeds. It has many features and probably many that I will never use since I am not a cook. Overall I am pleased with this microwave.
The microwave fit perfect and works very well

The microwave fit perfect and works very well. It was so nice to pick the exact item needed and have it delivered to the house. So many times when going to the appliance stores they are limited and you can end up purchasing something you were not really satisfied. Also, I did not have to haul it up the stairs myself.

Love my new mircowave. It looks great, cooks well and is simple to use. Highly recommend it.
Love it

It arrived very well packaged, not damaged. The interior is huge. The touch pad is an actual touch pad unlike the frigidaire I had, the touch pad on that had to be pressed forcefully. This microwave requires only a light touch, it comes with a template for installation. This made it quite easy to install and I am in no way considered the handy person.Interior is grey, it has a sleek looking exterior , the display window could be bigger but that does not bother me at all.I have not had any door latch issues as some reviewers mentioned. If you are on the fence about getting it , I suggest getting it. It was well worth the price for me.

Sharp R-1405 Microwave OvenI recently replaced a Whirlpool Velos convection/microwave oven in our RV with this Sharp R-1405 unit. I'm very happy with the results. Our previous oven would not operate properly on our on-board generator, even though the Onan technician checked all the power parameters from the generator and said they were fine. Later the old oven started acting up even on shore power (plugged into a receptacle). It had to go.We had a Sharp convection/microwave oven in a previous RV and liked it so I didn't hesitate to order this unit as a replacement. We don't need the convection capability so we saved some money (and probably some weight) by getting just the microwave. This unit has been in our RV about three weeks and has been on one extended two-week trip. It works fine on both shore power and the generator. The first time I melted some cheese in it I noticed that it has more power than our previous unit, maybe even more than the microwave in our house. My wife appreciates the fact that this oven doesn't stick out as far as our old one did which enables her to see items on the range top better than before. It also doesn't extend down the wall as far as the old one did so there's more room above the range as well. I liked the fact that this unit is lighter in weight than the old one so it was easier to install it than it was to remove the old unit. The range light works at least as well as the old unit’s and the fan is set up to vent out the rear through the same exterior vent that the old unit used. The oven comes with a short piece of foam weatherstripping to seal around the vent. It seems to work well. It can be configured to vent out the back, or out the top, or just to recirculate air. When it recirculates it filters the air, and the manual recommends that you change the charcoal filters every 6-12 months. You should clean the grease filters at least once a month by soaking in dish detergent. The fan’s noisy, but we don’t use it often so it’s not an issue for us.The filters and range hood light bulbs are easy to change, but there is no easy way to access and change the light bulb for the interior of the oven. The procedure isn’t even addressed in the manual.Unless you are very handy with tools and projects you should probably have this professionally installed. The installation instructions provided are not well written and leave out one or two steps. Sharp does supply templates, one for the back wall and one for the top, to show where the mounting plate (on the wall) and the holes in the upper cabinet (for bolts and cord) should be located. If you aren’t precise in positioning the mounting plate and holes you will have problems with your installation. This microwave is made to fit in a space that is 30 inches between the side cabinets. The instructions require that you screw the mounting plate to at least one wall stud, and toggle bolts are provided to attach the plate to the wallboard at the other locations where there is no stud. You will need a 15 or 20 amp receptacle inside the upper cabinet to provide power. It should be on a dedicated circuit. You will also be drilling three holes through the bottom of the upper cabinet. My cabinet had a false bottom so it wasn’t a problem for me but it may be for you. The false bottom provided a smooth bottom for the cabinet and covered the cord and mounting bolts. Most of the weight of the oven is carried by the mounting plate, which is on the wall, but the top of the oven is attached to the bottom of the upper cabinet with two bolts. My upper cabinet’s bottom was just 1/8-inch plywood so I strengthened it by gluing a couple of wooden blocks where the bolts go.You can probably do the actual mounting alone, but I wouldn’t. My wife, who refuses (wisely) to lift anything very heavy, took the lighter end of the unit and I took the other. Lifting to hook the unit to the mounting plate was easy with two people. Once we got it hooked onto the mounting plate she easily held it in place while I installed the bolts through the upper cabinet.Operation of this oven can be as simple or as complicated as you like. We use it mostly for reheating leftovers so I use the one-touch MINUTE PLUS button. Stick your food into the oven, push the button and it will run for a minute. If you want two minutes just push it again; the same routine will increase the time by one minute for every press. The oven will operate at lower power levels if desired. It has a DEFROST button for various foods and will also allow you to program a manual defrost cycle. The touchpad also has buttons for POPCORN and REHEAT, and these cycles are explained in the manual. I'm perfectly happy with just setting a time and power level and this oven fits my requirements perfectly. The best recommendation I can make is this: If this oven got destroyed, I’d buy another one just like it as a replacement.

Perfect for us
August 13, 2014
We purchased and installed this over the range microwave as a replacement for a 25 year old one. This is Sharp is just perfect. We required one with the recirculating feature because we have no way to vent it, and this type is not easy to find.
Looks great!

This microwave is simple to use, and it works great. At first I was a little apprehensive about the matt finish on it but once we got it installed, it looks great. I love it! My husband and I installed it...we only needed a basic drill, it took a couple of hours but we got it done.
Basic Microwave
December 30, 2013
We've had this for only one month now but it seems durable and simple, from a well-regarded manufacturer, Sharp. This is our fifth one from Sharp across my extended family; two for my mother, and three for me. I had a counter-top model back in the early 1980s, followed by an over the range that lasted 10-15 years. I now have another higher-end Sharp. The R-1405 was purchased for my mother. She did not need fancy or complex features. This is a basic but practical appliance. It has all the features that she needs -- she basically just heats by time-estimates, as I suspect most people do. I installed it by myself and the only problem I had was getting the old unit out (it was apparently installed by some jack-leg who did a sloppy and unprofessional job). I installed it by raising it in place using its shipping box turned upside down, then I used some wedges to elevate it the last inches. It is heavy but not as heavy as I though and I could handle lifting it to the box myself (I'm 62). The microwave rear-lower edge sits on a ledge/lip and then bolts (2) through the cabinet shelf from above. The mounting plate has to be precisely mounted to the back wall and they give you a template for that. The holes though which the top shelf screws are placed also has a template. You have to re-adjust the fan outlet depending on whether you have a rear exhaust, top exhaust, or internal recycling exhaust. The instructions were not clear about how to do that. I figured it out and then plugged it in and turned the fan on to be sure I had it right before I installed it. I would buy this unit again based on the price and it's simplicity to operate.
Reliable & simple to use Microwave
January 25, 2013
I bought this for parents to replace very old GE Microwave. They are very happy with it and like the simple function buttons. Installation instructions could be a bit better especially when installing for top-venting configuration. When rotating the blower motor for top-venting, be sure that the power cable is positioned away from the top panel or you risk putting a screw through it when the panel is reinstalled. A warning message to position the power cable correctly and more accurate drawings showing the holes in the housing and panels should be provided. In use, the unit operates well and quietly and is a good value.

Decent cheap microwave
December 24, 2015
It's a cheap microwave, and you get what you pay for. That said it's been working fine for me. The door didn't open smoothly at first, but it seems to be getting a little better the more that I use it.I'm not sure buying a microwave from Amazon is the best Idea, I don't think I'd do it again. The box arrived pretty beat up, and the microwave was poorly protected. The mount for the exhaust fan was partially broken when I received it (I installed it anyway instead of dealing with the return process).
only had a short time

only one I could find to fit in space. couldn't use all the others because once installed was unable to open door because it is next to an extended wall. I hunted all over for a microwave that the door hinge was about an inch from side.
Good simple microwave

It is a basic microwave and so far working very well.It fit perfect over our oven range. My husband and his friend's help needed for taking old one out and setting this microwave up.Door feels very light (we are used to the metal one) so we get gentle on it.
good basic microwave
October 24, 2008
I bought this microwave to replace my previous Sharp R-1449. This one is deeper, more plastic, and slightly more powerful. It seems reliable (only have had it 6 weeks), has a good vent and good stove lights. I wish it had a night light and a switch to stop turntable rotation though one can get around it by removing the turntable. My biggest disappointment was that it utilizes a different mounting plate than my previous Sharp microwave.I gave it four stars b/c it does the job and it was inexpensive compared to other manufacturers. Incidentally, mounting instructions were very good.
A good product for a good price
September 21, 2008
The install was easy for one person, it would have been easier for two people, but if you are handy and able to put other things together, this should be no problem. The light under the microwave is a great plus, we use it as much as the microwave when we are cooking on the stove. The only issue we have with this is the fan. It happens to be pretty loud. We are not sure if this has to do with the fact that we have it on re-circulation mode as opposed to external exhuast, but that is the one thing we would change.Other than that we are very happy with it!We use the defrost option almost every night for meat and it is great-Also pluses for two different popcorn options depending on the size you are cooking!
Decent For The Money
September 11, 2008
I just finished installing and using this and it's a decent microwave for the money. It's construction is pretty flimsy though, (very thin metal), and mine came pre-dented right out of the box with a minor dent in the left side with some minor scratches. The touch pad was also very loose and I had to use a thin washer behind it as a wedge to tighten it up.Like I said, it's decent for the price and Amazon's free shipping made it an even better deal.I hope it lasts longer than the last two Sear's "Galaxy" models that I bought. The first one went south in the first three weeks and the replacement didn't even last two years.

This is 2016 -- Should be designed better.
September 21, 2016
Replaced a 11 year old GE Profile unit with this. In some cases I feel this product is a step backward as far as options and ease of use.Clock will not stay on (supposedly an energy saving feature) -- ridiculous. Can't see in the small window to the dimly lit inside to see how food is cooking -- frustrating. Touch screen sensor food profiles have to be accessed by pressing the numeric keypad to see options -- time consuming. On the plus side I think the exhaust fan is great and isn't too noisy considering how much air is being pushed. Cooking is fast and even. I wish I had gone to an appliance store to see the features explained more clearly instead of purchasing online.
OK so far, but it's got some bugs...
September 18, 2016
So far, this microwave has been doing OK, (with the exception of the exhaust fan which I think has a bad switch because even though it says it is in "LOW SPEED", the volume and pitch are the same as "HI SPEED").I've had it for almost 3 weeks now, and today I started a return because it quit heating. I decided to check out the LG website for any information concerning repair help and was led to a troubleshooting guide. After going though that, I found out that it has a "Timer Mode", (where it runs, but does not heat). After clearing the screen, it started working again. I don't know why they made the timer mode look and sound like the microwave is running. My last microwave had a timer that ran independently of the microwave itself. With this one, the only way to tell it's not cooking is that it doesn't heat at all.

February 2, 2015
WOW am I ever surprised! The product descriptions states "Spacious 2.0 cu. ft. interior Accommodates a wide range of meal and snack items" this spacious interior is in reality 1.4 cubic feet!!!. LG's claim of 2 cubic feet include all of the little indentations on the sides and bottom So perhaps this unit has a 2 cubic feet capacity .. if you laid it on it's back drilled a hole in the door and poured in 2 cubic feet of liquid! Well so much for honesty in advertising ... I'll write another review when i actually start using my small microwave but for now I feel duped.

Disappointing Microwave
January 20, 2016
After finally installing the unit, it seems to work as well as its deceased predecessor. The old one had a nice mounting system and was made in the USA, which is why I purchased this model. Of course, they changed the mounting system, necessitating drilling more mounting holes, making the backboard resemble Swiss cheese! The input panel isn't as positive or smooth as the old one, either. Made in Thailand, not the USA. All told, a disappointment. Maybe the last Sharp Microwave product I will buy.
I like Sharp Microwaves
July 11, 2015
I like Sharp Microwaves. My mother had one for 40 years and I have had one for 30 years before both required repair. My microwave needed a new magnetron and fuse which I fixed for $125.00. My mother's microwave had to be replaced as we could not find all of the replacement parts we needed. Hence, I purchased the one above- almost an exact replacement. It works very well and is easy to use, but I am not happy with the outward appearance. Too much black and it looks cheap compared to her original one.
Ok, but some options are limited and the instructions are somewhat obtuse.
April 27, 2015
Works fine, but somewhat lacking in some features. The defrost selection begins at 1/2 lbs.. In a single person household, I often need to defrost smaller amounts. I buy packages of pork chops, vegetables, etc. and split them up into small packages and freeze them. Also, my previous microwave had a 30 second time add feature which I used more often than the 1 minute add feature on this microwave. One minute is often longer than I need and if 30 seconds is too short, I could always push it more than once. That microwave also had several fan speeds and light options. The lower fan speeds were useful when I didn't need the higher speed and reduced the rather irritating high speed fan noise. These restrictions are mostly just somewhat irritating and, overall, I'm not dissatisfied with the unit. I also found the installation instructions somewhat difficult to follow. Mainly, I had a few parts that didn't seem to go anywhere. My previous unit (different maker) only lasted 4 years which was a disappointment, I hope this one lasts longer.
Ok, but it interferes with my wireless signal
September 28, 2013
When the microwave is on, it interferes with my wireless signal. Laptop, Wii, ipad, etc stop working. Fortunately I don't use the microwave that often. My old Whirlpool microwave never did this. Installation was fairly easy.

GE Profile is more user friendly but will only last a couple years, Hope this one lasts forever
July 18, 2016
All I am judging this unit on is looks and usability, The clock does not continuously display, the mounting holes do not match up with GE. I prefer the usability and comfort of controls of a GE Profile however you can expect to replace the GE Profile every couple of years with a control panel fault after my 3rd GE in 9 years I decided to buy this LG Not as user friendly however it may last longer who knows.... The other comments you read are correct. View window is small, under lite is dim inside is black and if your not venting through the roof you will have to change the vent system.(everything you need is included)
Ok but not that good.
August 14, 2015
Bought this 23 months ago and it works just fine till today. LG chat suggests the magnetron failed. The microwave appears to work but the food does not get hot and the turntable isn't turning. Another reviewer had the same problem and their technician replaced a faulty relay. I hope the fix is simple. For the last 23 months it works well but it is very loud with the vent fan on even on low as others commented. Also it would be nice to turn off the turntable which you can't. Lastly, there is no timer to time your baking cookies or dinner. Our oven has a timer but often it would be nice to have two timers. I wouldn't have even believed a kitchen appliance made would not have a timer. All in all, ok but loud. By the way, the fire issue was fixed in 2014.
Not very happy with the new design
August 2, 2015
I had the older version 2083ST and it stopped working so I replaced it with this microwave - has identical size and older model does not exist. Two aspects were problematic from the prior model - one of the mounting screws was located in the wrong position, thankfully the wall bracket and one of the screws aligned perfectly. So had to drill one more screw. However, the two screws are not symmetrical i..e the distance from the sides of the microwave are different. This is bad engineering, as the center of gravity is not the center.Second, the interior is grey, so we cannot be see the food cooking. Moreover, the bottom of the outside panel is tinted (or black) so unless you are 6 ft tall, you cannot see the very dark interior with very small light.Further, the microwave arrived with the mounting bracket (which was located at the top of the microwave carton) bent; thankfully, we had the older one, we did not have to use it.Overall, disappointed with LG design and there is no backward compatibility with older models.

Inspect the oven before installing!
April 23, 2015
I had the oven professionally installed. It was to replace the exact same model and size. But this new one doesn't really fit in the same space. There is about a two inch space on the bottom where the old over was located. Now I have to try to find some matching tile or ? to cover this space. That's one issue. The other issue is after the oven was installed and operating, we noticed that it was not properly assembled at the factory and there is a gap on the bottom right and when the oven is turned on, you can see light come through on the bottom. I probably could take the oven down and return it but I don't want the hassle and the cost of doing that. I called Sharp to complain and they said that there was nothing they could do about that since the oven is working properly - and it is - that's not the issue. I appears - and I don't know this for sure - that the oven that I ordered (without being told) was an older model, maybe one that had been rejected because of the defect. But since the defect was not noticeable until the oven was installed and operating, it was too late. So to anyone purchasing this model, check it well before installing it and check the space where it will be installed (and use the template). Don't assume anything. With all this said, the oven that I removed was a Sharp that was still working after over 25 years. That's why I bought a Sharp.
CAUTION: Not suitable for use over a stove
March 26, 2015
We bought this microwave, installed it, and it worked great. But then the door stopped opening. We installed it over a stove. It turns out the plastics on the front will melt and deform from normal amounts of heat. The previous microwave didn't have this problem. What this means is that button to open the door doesn't work any more. We got the button out, and can insert a dowel (wooden spoon handle) to push the door release. But the entire front plastics and button itself are slightly warped.
Sharp microwave should go back to the drawing board
December 1, 2013
This microwave is not very well made. After I installed the microwave we noticed that the metal on the right side of the machine bowed out. I removed the machine, and took a closer look...the sheet metal that makes up the left side, top and right side are made of one piece. It looks as though it is probably put in a press and shaped to fit the metal structure that makes up the framework. The right side hangs down further than the left, and the back is longer than the front. Also, the right side was too long front to back causing the excess and the bulge. I dug up two small washers to put on on the lowest screw on the back. This took up some of the excess. I eventually drilled a hole and put in a small screw to hold the bulging side in. It now looks fine. I'm not sure why they wouldn't put any screws along either side. After about 19 days of use, the turntable quit working. I studied the manual, googled for a solution however could not find any suggestions. Unplugging overnight did nothing. A few days later I contacted the seller OJ Commerce. They were very involved at first however the last email I received told me that this person had talked to the warehouse and that I should get in touch with them for a service call. They provided the phone number and offered some suggestions on how to go about this.A few days later the turntable of our $220 bacon cooker started working again. I've got a one year warrantee and American Express will extend the warrantee another year, so I guess we'll see what happens. I would not purchase another Sharp microwave.

Touchpad unresponsive after boiling water on stove top.
September 10, 2016
Looking to make some soup on the stove-top? Boil water for pasta? Better make sure to do it on the right side of your stove and hope that the touchpad still works afterward. We purchased this microwave in July '15, and three times had to call LG customer service due to an unresponsive touchpad after boiling water. Each time it took a few days for a tech to arrive, and when they did, the touchpad had begun working again. Each time the tech told us that since the problem had been "solved", and the production functioning "properly", they couldn't repair or replace any parts, *even though this was an ongoing issue*.It has now been three days since my wife decided to make some chicken soup, and we've been without a working microwave ever since. We've unplugged it, and plugged it back in, left it unplugged for a day, and nothing has changed. The light works when the door is opened, and when you plug it in it prompts you to set the time, but with an unresponsive touchpad it might as well be completely dead. Now that the warranty period is over, LG will not cover a repair tech coming out to fix this issue. Even though we reported multiple times the exact same issue while it was under warranty and nothing was done. We purchased all LG appliances for our kitchen. Fortunately for us, the refrigerator died while under warranty and was repaired. The microwave did as well, but as I said above, was never repaired properly, and now is basically dead. That's a 50% failure rate in under a year. We will not be purchasing any LG appliances, or any other LG products, ever again.
The older model worked fine until I melted it with a small kitchen fire ...
April 7, 2015
I bought this unit to replace an older LG model that was discontinued. The older model worked fine until I melted it with a small kitchen fire (naturally the one time I disconnected the smoke alarm). The new model arrived quickly. I got a friend to help install it. You'll need a friend -It's too heavy for you to hold it up with one hand while you screw the bolt on with the other.I gave it four stars in my initial review but I'm changing it to one star because after only a couple of months, the microwave's fan and interior lights would go on sometimes when I closed the oven door. But if I opened and gently closed the door again, it'd turn off. It's been about six months since I first installed this oven and this problem is becoming frequent. Today, my son texts me from home that the microwave won't turn off no matter what he does so I told him to leave the door open and when I get home tonight, I will disconnect it so it doesn't burn the house down. A microwave oven is supposed to make our lives more convenient, not fill us with dread that it can start an electric fire. Checking on the internet, it seems that this is not an uncommon problem. It's probably not going to be covered by warranty. And how do I get it to the manufacturer? They aren't going to pay a repairman to make a housecall for a lousy microwave oven. If I pay for shpping both ways, I might as well buy a new microwave. Lessons learned: I will buy appliances from a brick and mortar store whose return/service policy I understand and I will not use an over-the-range microwave again.
Microwave Oven Handle attachment breaks off, magnetron fails - just a terrible product
January 12, 2015
The handle is attached to the door by two weak screws that bear up against a nonmetallic surface on the door. For my unit, the lower attachment door surface broke within six months and the handle pulled away from the door.I am having a service call take care of it but it looks like a design flaw. Even if I get a replacement door, I expect it will break again in six months. Avoid this model design.Updated Dec 2016: Yes the replacement door also is showing the same problem.Worse: The magnetron failed as soon as the one year warranty was up. Would not heat food. We had a service call and replaced it.It has failed again in 9 months. LG wants more for a service call than the new microwave cost.I would avoid LG microwaves completely. I still have a countertop Panasonic microwave working perfectly after 15 years - unfortunately LG does not know microwaves :)

Sparks flew... fire hazard
May 23, 2014
I hit the start button and sparks flew and dead microwave. I think this model could be a fire hazard. Called Sharp, even though the microwave was under warranty when the problems started... they were of no help. They send a repair service who promptly told me there was a $75 "show-up fee" and repairs would be an additional charge. Very disappointed in Sharp and will definitely not consider another of their products.
