Good Value

Very easy to install & set-up.I may end up putting one on every door of my house. It's so nice not to have to try and pull keys out of my pocket when approaching the front door, especially if my hands are full. All I need is a free finger to hit the keypad. It's also nice if you are out of town and need someone to stop by and check on things, just give them a temporary key code and their in. You don't have to make a set of keys or leave a key somewhere. This key pad does not automatically unlock itself after entering a code like some of the other key-less entry locks, which I was fully aware of and assume it will allow the battery to last longer.
Love this lock
March 4, 2017
I bought this and a matching doorknob and am so happy with them. The finish is lovely. I had these locks on my old house and love them. These were a must for our new house. Great battery life, easy to program new codes for petsitter or other people needing entry. No fumbling for keys to get in. Best of all my husband who locks the door when I am outside working in the yard " force of habit" he claims can no longer lock me out of the house.
Very nice
February 20, 2017
Purchased about 2 years ago. Love it. Battery lasts a long time since it doesn't have to actually move the deadbolt. Very quick to come and go. I replaced all the exterior locks and rekeyed them all myself. Two are keypads. Each family member has their own code. We still keep a key on the keyrings just in case but never have had to use them. Plus with two keypads, even if a battery died without the expected warning, odds are we can still get in the other door. Just don't get caught out because these aren't easy to bypass from what I've heard.
*Two locksmiths and a ball-peen hammer couldn't get through this thing. So there's that.*
August 15, 2016
I have never been so incredibly angry at a lock in my life, yet here I am purchasing another. Why? Glad you asked.Three years ago we purchased our first Schlage keypad deadbolt for our MIL suite door and we loved it so much we bought two more for our other exterior doors. It's amazing how much your life improves when you don't have to worry about carrying/losing keys. We changed the batteries on every New Year's Day as a rule, just to be on the safe side. The override keys were stored in a safe place, or so I thought. I'm sure you can see where this is headed.Yep! Locked out in the pouring rain with guests arriving in five hours. The battery died after I'd accessed the suite to collect the linens. I'd locked the door behind me, went downstairs to load the washer, and when I returned it was a red blinking light and I was out of luck. But I knew where the key was, so no problem! Except that the key wasn't where it belonged AT ALL and my husband had just boarded an airplane. Did I mention it was pouring rain?So after a few minutes of panicking and ransacking every drawer in the house, I called a locksmith. I felt instantly calmer when he arrived but alas, he couldn't pick it nor could he couldn't bump it. He tried for 45 minutes in the pouring rain, bless his heart. He called for back up. She couldn't do it, either. They couldn't pick it, they couldn't bump it. They couldn't do anything. Heck, even WITH the key you have to do some Key Gymnastics to engage the bolt and it just wasn't possible to do that with the picks, even with three sets of human hands trying to hold the various bits all at once. She offered to come back and drill the keyhole part but expressed concern that all she'd accomplish would be the destruction of the lock without the benefit of it actually unlocking. She apologized profusely and they left. She gave me the number of "a safecracker" she knew (yeah, I don't know and I didn't ask.) but sadly that call went to voicemail. Maybe he was out busting into banks, who knows. After half a dozen phone calls to locksmiths all over town I was getting more and more frantic. My husband's plane had landed by this point and no, he had no idea where the key was. He did, however, call a friend with some power tools who was kind enough to rescue me. We decided to start violently (since I was so so angry, now) by trying to beat the damned thing off with a ball-peen hammer. No dice. Why? Because that damned thumbturn just spins and spins and spins. Pretty brilliant design when you think about it. ANYWAY, he finally got in by removing the door trim and sawing through the bolt with a freakin' 6" grinder blade and even THAT took a spell. Then he replaced it with a cheapie Kwikset he had on-hand so my guests could lock their suite. It was an unbelievably stressful day that I do not ever wish to repeat. That being said: I sure did sleep better knowing how damned hard it would be to break into the house via the doors!SO here I am, buying a replacement. Was I ticked off the lock didn't seem to give me an adequate enough warning about the battery? Absolutely. But I sure do feel safer knowing what a complete and total pain it was to get through that lock. Our local burglars are just not down for that kind of difficulty. They lack the drive.I highly recommend this thing BUT make sure you buy top-of-the-line batteries. Don't skimp on those and DON'T misplace the key otherwise you're going to need some heavy artillery.
This is the perfect blend of technology without "too much improvement".

We chose this model over the one that you can operate with your phone because with this one, you punch in the code then manually flip the lever. The more expensive model, you punch in the code and the motor operates the lever. That means you better have good batteries!Best yet, it went right in the same hole we had our old Schlage lock in, and we even had it rekeyed to match our existing keys. Great idea, what took me so long?
Replacement for my Master keypad deadbolt
November 16, 2015
This is a replacement for my Master keypad deadbolt. After a little less than three years, the Master gave up. I had three Master keypad deadbolts, and they served me well, but they had several eccentricities when it came to function. Most notably when low on power they became a simple latch on both sides. Battery replacement was a pain and sometimes (though I still don't know why) require complete disassembly and reassembly to work again. The better quality in this Schlage is apparent immediately. It's heavier. The inner latch doesn't feel like some cheap, flimsy thing. Having the lock button on the outside is much more convenient, and it works well.Cons: The key type doesn't match my Master locks so I can't key it to my other locks. The passcode is 4 numbers, My master lock is 4 or more, but there are only 5 buttons on the Master vs 10 on the Schlage.

Going for 6 months on high-power mode with same batteries
September 6, 2017
We've been using this for 6 months with a Samsung SmartThings Hub and it's worked great. There was one unnecessary step in the installation instructions but that probably just depends on your existing setup. Installation was pretty easy and I have very limited experience with door locks. I am surprised that the battery is still going because it runs in high power mode for us due to a slight misalignment with the door jam. It locks and unlocks every time, though. Very happy
Looks great! Works even better!
August 25, 2017
This deadbolt was easy to install it took me under 15 minutes to replace my old deadbolt with this lock. It took less than 5 minutes more to program two codes and connect the Z-Wave with my VeraEdge hub. The instructions were detailed, accurate and easy to follow. After I installed the lock it looks great and is performing flawlessly. I had only intended to use the Z-wave to remotely lock the door when I forgot. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that I can remotely add and delete lock codes from the VeraMobile app on my Windows 10 Desktop and phone as well. The only possible downside appears to be the noise level of the electric motor during operation. I thought the electric lock operation was fairly quite, but my wife disagrees and claims that it is too loud and irritating.
Read this if you're worried about battery usage
January 28, 2016
The basic gist of the battery problem is that the lock has two modes of motorized operation: low energy and high energy (this is clearly described in the manual). When you install the lock, you *need* to make sure that the hole for the deadbolt is big enough for it, aligns correctly, and leaves room for expansion from heat (if you live in a climate where this is a concern). If everything is right, the lock will use low energy, and your battery usage will be low.How do you know you're using low or high? After you initially set up the lock, the lock will try low energy first, *then* if it can't move the bolt, it will go to high energy. It will do this the first three times you open/close it (again, this is all in the manual). Each "try" is a pair of sounds (so if it sounds "brrr [pause] brrr", that's one try). If it goes three times without being able to use low-energy, it will use high-energy ALWAYS. Hence, lots of batteries. As for everything else, there are enough reviews out there. The product works as advertised, and is very high quality. If you don't have a deadbolt already, or it gets kind of stuck sometimes, or you don't trust you can get a smoot motion for the bolt, spring for a professional installation. It is worth it to avoid wasting money on batteries.
Works great so far
January 20, 2016
I installed this on a door without an existing deadbolt. It took a few hours to cut the holes and line everything up correctly, but I am not a professional. Once the holes were in place, the install and set up was quick. I like this deadbolt because it has an alarm if someone tries to force the door open. The codes can be 4-6 digits long. I have not used the smart features yet, but I have given my siblings and parents different codes. Theoretically, with the smart hub, I should be able to tell which family member stopped in, and when. The smart hub is next on the agenda for install.
Great lock and integrates with smartthings perfectly
January 24, 2015
Works great with smartthings and gives me notifications and remote unlocking/locking. It's a grade 1 lock (hard to find in residential locks) rather than grade 2. Wasn't hard to install. Putting in the 3 inch screws was hardest part since the screw heads can strip. Pilot drill holes may help. (or get ready to go to the hardware store for replacement screws) I was able to keep the original handle set (also schlage ) rather than buying a handle set of this Camelot style. This lock is great if you have contractors coming in and out, housekeeper rather than worrying about giving extra keys Just have to educate them how to use the lock. Only question is battery life which seems variable in reviews. I suspect the difference may be polling from the zwave hub. The lock is audible but not horrible. The lock can tell you if the bolt is thrown but not actually if the door is closed. So you may need a door sensor if you want to be extra careful. The programming of the lock isn't too bad and the passcode can be up to 8 numbers (default of 4). I was looking at the startup locks like august, danalock but this has been made from a major player in locks and is currently available. Plus schlage isn't going anyway. (who knows about the startups?) Remember some of the startup locks rely on your old lock mechanism and bolt which may not be strong enough. Finally in my research there were some concerns about kevo kwickset's physical security (ability to be picked or resistance to physical attacks) I don't need presence sensing and unlocking although you can try that with smartthings plus this. I'd worry about unlocking by accident when walking by the lock. All in all, a great purchase. If the battery life is good, then it's a great investment.
This Z-Wave lock works well with SmartThings and IFTTT
November 5, 2013
I bought this lock to work together with the SmartThings hub and platform, and it does so very well. Since this lock has built-in Z-Wave capability, it was easy to add this lock to my collection of "things" and now to control it with my iPhone.I've tested it manually using the keypad, wirelessly using the SmartThings app, and I've even integrated IFTTT.com (If This, Then That) with the lock - everything works well. I wish that the auto-lock feature allowed for a custom time to be dictated (i.e. lock the deadbolt after X minutes) instead of 30 seconds. I disabled auto-lock.The lock was an easy replacement to my existing Schlage deadbolt, and prior to the installation my local Home Depot was able to rekey the lock for $5 (note: not all Home Depots offer this service). I also like that the bolt has a tapered end so it helps when aligning the bolt into the slot on the doorframe.A bit pricey for a doorlock, but I love the convenience that it offers.

Arrived damaged but otherwise a nice lock
July 13, 2017
This item arrived in an undamaged amazon box, in an undamaged Schlage box, but the item itself was damaged. The "inside" cover plate was dented in the middle where the latch was attached. This caused the thumb latch to scratch the plate when it was turned and caused the latch to not turn smoothly. I fixed the dent in the cover plate enough so the latch would turn properly. However the cover plate is still scratched. This is a nice lock otherwise. All the parts lined up as described and it was easy to assemble and program the codes.Edit: did not hear from Amazon when I explained the damage and went ahead and requested a new lock. The replacement arrived quickly and was in perfect condition.

We had troubles with the first installation, it was odd. a plastic piece was loose and we didn't know where it went, once we figured out it was a guide for the wire from front to back, it worked fine. So the lesson is do exactly as the instructions say in order for it to work? Also, this lock is NOT self retracting/extending. After the code is put in, you have to manually lock/unlock. Not a deal breaker, but just a heads up because I expected an automatic one for some reason.
Interior Lever Loose
January 8, 2016
This is a good product that could be great. Solidly built on the outside and works well. We love being keyless! It's 2016, why is everyone still using keys?? However, the lever on the inside is hollow, loose and noisy. No reason for this and something Schlage can easily fix. Paid a locksmith to install and I'm glad I did because there were some minor complications I wouldn't have been able to resolve. Besides the lever issue, this is still a good buy for anyone looking to go keyless.
Great lock. Would buy again.
November 17, 2015
Excellent lock. Would buy again. Very sturdy feel and action.Con: The first lock I received was defective. It would not engage the turn knob. Tech support was very helpful, walking me through several factory reset procedures before determining the lock was bad. They sent a replacement from the factory at no charge. I was bummed by the wait, and having to pay my local locksmith an additional $11 to have the new lock rekeyed, as I had the first one. Schlage wouldn't cover that, but offered to let me send my bad lock to them and they'd rekey the new one to match. I declined, as shipping and additional delay wasn't worth it.I am very happy with the lock. It would get five stars if not for the snafu with the first lock I received.
Great quality, even better battery life
November 11, 2015
Heavy duty and nice looking. This deadbolt seems to be better quality than the kwikset keypad deadbolt I have. I actually like the fact that you have to turn it to lock and unlock it instead of a little motor moving it, seems like this will last longer and the battery won't drain so fast. It's a little bit more complicated to change the code than any other electronic lock I've ever had. You have to actually type in a preprogrammed code that is printed in the instruction manual and then enter your own code. Not really a problem, just more difficult than kwikset. All in all I'm really happy with the product.Update over a year later 12/22/16I'm still on the same 9v battery this lock started with in November of 2015. the 4 AA batteries in my kwikset deadbolt have died and needed replaced 3 times this year. Both doors get about the same amount of use. This not only saves money but i never worry about getting locked out because of a dead battery. I would definitely recommend this deadbolt over a kwikset any dayUpdate 8/27/17I'm still running on the same 9v battery after almost 2 years. I went ahead and replaced my Kwikset with another Schlage because I was sick of changing batteries.

August 11, 2014
This lock seems to be a good lock. I had it for a little over a month however I installed it about 3 weeks ago (I wanted to change out the rest of my old Kwikset locks with new Shalage knob and dead bolt sets at the same time so the keys would match). I rekeyed the new keypad cylinder to match the keyed-alike knob and dead bolt set fairly easily. The electronic or push button functions nicely, I especially like the no key needed to lock the dead bolt. I don't have to carry a key if I go out for a walk or bike ride. The key cylinder locking mechanism is kinda funky, and takes a little getting used to. You have to put the key into the keyway cylinder, turn it a 1/4 turn and push it in to engage the dead bolt mechanism. Once the mechanical components are engaged the dead bolt can be manipulated to locked or unlocked. One issue I've had is with removing the key. It is sort of awkward because the key and cylinder must be pulled, turned 1/4 turn back the same direction it was inserted then the the key way aligns and can be removed. If the key is turned the wrong direction you have to funble around to get the cylinder aligned to allow removal.

Haven't figured out how to set codes remotely, otherwise great.
November 4, 2017
Works well. I've had it 3 months and down to 99% battery, with light duty use every day. I use SmartThings to control and monitor. My only complaint is that I cannot set the codes or do anything complex (like scheduling, etc.) through SmartThings as I was led to believe. But that's more a limitation of ST from what I can tell. Others who have HomeSeer w/ addin seem to be able do this.
Solid construction makes it feel safe
August 29, 2017
This is to replace a Schlage deadbolt after 30 years of use, I like the quality and reliability from Schlage. Installation is not much more difficult than installing a deadbolt, setting up access numbers is straight forward, the materials used and the construction feels very solid. After a few uses I don't see finger prints on the keypad which is really a plus. The only aspect I don't like is that the unit which is installed inside is quite bulky and unsightly.
Good functional deadbolt, app leaves little to be desired.
August 19, 2017
Debated a while about which smart deadbolt to buy and opted for the Schalge. Installation was pretty straight forward and easy. Design is a nice modern style with a good selection of colors. I like that the lock gives you the option for 4-6 digit passwords, however I should note that there isn;t an option for both. So either all passwords have to be 4 or 6 digits not a mixture of both. The downside which to me is an issue is the app itself is terrible. Configuring it to use the app was pointless, however syncing to Smartthings was easier. Also controlling via Alexa is pretty great. I will say that I still like it better than products offered by Kwikset, I have yet to test the Yale deadbolt.

Love the ability to lock from phone and check to see who and what time a specific person entered or exited my house. Another great feature is the ability to use a code instead of a key to unlock the door. One thing I am confused about is how frequently the alarm is triggered. First day was windy so I kind of understood with the movement of the door. When it's quiet and not windy - haven't yet figured out why it triggers. I've silenced the sound so only get notifications now but it is confusing and a bit unsettling. Thought it was only supposed to trigger if the lock or door was being tampered with.

March 19, 2017
Works well with SmartThings. Only criticisms so far is that the batteries don't last as long as my old lock and won't open the lock if their level drops below 33%. Don't ask how I learned about that.
Very attractive, good support from Schlage, but unreliable.
February 28, 2016
REVISED: I didn't have this item as long as i thought. IT was installed at the end of October... i've edited the review to reflect there was only a couple of months before i started having problems. This thing is just unreliable. Correction... it's reliable for 2 months to 3 weeks and then it stops working. This is not a battery issue.Look and feel is far better than the builder grade Kwikset keypad i bought, but in the end... even though the Kwikset has it's issues it works well enough and the Schlage can not be relied upon to unlock every time. The Schlage lock was installed into a newly installed metal-wood door by my contractor as part of a pretty extensive overhaul/renovation of my home. it was installed in the door in the end of October. It feels great and when it is working, it works very well... i love the door entry sensor, and if i could rely on it i would have replaced my Kwickset lock on my garage... There is an auto lock feature (which is not mentioned in the product description) that i would love to have for my garage. Problem is, it is 3 months later and the keypad has stopped taking codes for a second time. Last time i had to take the whole thing apart and reprogram it. I'm going to try this again, but even if it works... this is an expensive lock and it should just work. I shouldn't have to dick around with it on a monthly basis.Boo. Schlage... boo.Update: I finally got around to trying to reset it again months later. It failed, so i called Schlage. After choosing a few numbers on the automates system i got a a real person and she was very helpful. We tried a couple of things and after 10 minutes she gave up and issued me a replacement lock. This is about 10 months after the purchase.Yay Schlage... Yay!Because of this and my appreciation for the support (they did not ask) i have upgraded the rating from 3 to 4 stars... But maybe it's really a 3.5. I think we spend a lot of time these days calling customer support for less than ideal tech. While i am thankful for the support and follow through of Schlage, I really thing there are some things that should "just work" every time and shouldn't require us to waste our personal time to fiddle with and fix. Door locks are one of these things. Think about your hourly wage... I earn about $40 an hour these days an once i install the replacement lock i will have spent three hours screwing around with this thing. In a sense, but not exactly so... that's and additional $120 expense added to this lock and that cost started within months of install.Regarding the Kwickset: The problem with the kwickset is you have to make sure it's locked. Occasionally the bolt will not lock even though it sounds like it did. I realize i may sound more forgiving of this lock. This is because it was cheaper and my expectations were lower... plus... even though it's bit ugly and i have to check the lock, it unlocks every time. I expect the problem is the alignment of of the lock, but if my carpenter couldn't make it line up... it will be hard for me. I've got about 100 post renovation projects to do so, in the grand scheme of things, its not a huge deal, i'm just living with.

OK for the price, but tricky to use with a key
May 26, 2017
The lock works fine and is pretty cheap, but operation is a bit finicky. I decided to return it because there are better options for close to the same price. Two issues:1. To open and lock with a key you need to push the key in, otherwise the key will just rotate endlessly. Pushing in and out can be a bit stiff, and isn't intuitive. It took me a few tries the first time just to figure out what was going on, and given that I want other folks (e.g. cleaner, catsitter) to be able to use this lock easily, this was a dealbreaker. Non-intuitive lock that you need to explain to people defeats the convenience of having a new lock. I switched to a Schlage Sense because the key lock doesn't have this 'push in' issue.2. It doesn't auto lock, so after entering the code, you need to turn the lock to lock it (and vice versa). So if you're expecting autolock, don't buy this.
Bad firmware design
November 11, 2016
The lock looks good, easy to install and works as expected. But what I don't like is its lock's implementation. You can only use 4 digit PINs to unlock. No more, no less. The way you program the PIN is by entering the 6-digits program PIN and then press 1 to add unlock PIN or press 2 to delete. The lock supplied 2 unlock PINs, I suggest you remove them as soon as possible. To unlock, you enter the 4-digits unlock PIN. The more unlock PINs added, the easier to hit one randomly.Clever user would have noticed that it is the same as entering the program PIN. If you enter 4 digits in random, the lock will tell you it is wrong. But if the first 4 digits matches the program pin, the lock won't reject you. If you know the first 4 digits of a 6 digits PIN. It will not take long to figure out the next 2 digits. The manually states you cannot UNLOCK using the program PIN, it is false. Because you can add a new unlock PIN and use it to unlock immediately. Because the design weakens the security, I knocked 2 stars off an otherwise decent keypad lock.
Definitely not "plug and play"
March 12, 2016
Looks like it's nice and durable. It's made to fit multiple door configurations, which is nice--so you don't "accidentally order the wrong one" if you don't look at your door before ordering, but this also meant I needed to perform three modifications.First, my door has the lock farther from the edge of the door, so I had to perform the modification to extend the deadbolt from 60mm to 70mm. That wasn't TOO difficult (but I'd prefer if they wrote out the instructions in English instead of (or perhaps in addition to) the picture that was a bit unclear.Second, my door has the round deadbolt cover and not the rectangle. I was worried a bit, since taking the rectangle endpiece off meant totally destroying two pieces (which it appears will not be needed once I insert the round piece, but means I probably can't return the item, and definitely can't give to a friend if this won't work on my door and my friend has the rectangle type). So I took off the door's existing hardware. Luckily, I paid attention as I was doing so, since I ended up having to put it back on.The new deadbolt slid in nice and snug.I threaded the wire over the top, as per the instructions, and then inserted the metal piece through the deadbolt gimmick. It was at this point that I noticed that the Schlage BE365VCAM716 Camelot Keypad requires the door to have a 2 1/8" hole, whereas the existing hardware used a much smaller hole. The door is a wood/metal combo and I have no way to enlarge the hole to 2.125"Sigh.Removed the new deadbolt and put the old hardware back on.Guess I'll use the Schlage BE365VCAM716 Camelot Keypad as an expensive paperweight (unless I find someone who has a round deadbolt cover AND a large hole.
Sticky buttons
January 8, 2016
My issue with this lock is that the Schlage button gets stuck in the popped in position. You have to wiggle it to get it to come back out. The first few times it happened I thought the lock was broken or that the battery wasn't connecting well and it kind of freaked me out, living in the city you really don't want your lock to be broken. You also have to physically turn the knob to lock it so if you have the dog sitter use it you need to remind them it doesn't lock automatically (it sounds like it does so it is deceiving and confusing at first). The other problem is that the locking knob sticks out too far and my contractor had to adjust the storm door so that the hardware on the storm door doesn't touch. I like the convenience of it and it looks nice. I think I would have gone with a flatter one that auto locks if I bought one again.
3 Stars, but I Still Recommend it as a Buy
August 22, 2014
I bought this on August 15 and amazon had it delivered to my door on August 17.The exterior escutcheon plate did not cover the exterior mounting plate and caused a gap between it at the door which could lead to water infiltration.I contacted Schlage for warranty service and spoke to Deborah Acosta on August 16. I explained to her my situation and she wanted photos of the defect. I did not hear anything back from her for a few days.On August 20, I asked amazon for a replacement. They had it delivered to me next day!The replacement had the same problem as the original purchase but not as severe. I sanded down the exterior mounting plate and the escutcheon plate finally sat flush with the door. The replacement also had a lot burrs inside from the metal molding process that were not trimmed off. It also did not come with the 9V battery. I believe I received the two locks from a bad batch and lazy quality control. As of August 23, Deborah Acosta of Allegion (parent company of Schlage) still has not contacted me.I still recommend buying this item because after you get it installed and properly flush to your door, it has a lot of good features:1) I like the fact that it is a manual turn keypad lock. In other words, you still have to lock or unlock it manually after entering in the pass code. It does not automatically lock and unlock the door for you. I figure that the less motorized parts, the less chance of failure.2) It's convenient when you need to lock it from the outside because it's smart enough to know that you're trying to lock the door, you just need to press the Schlage button, and turn to lock.3) Convenience of not having to remember and take keys out.4) I'll never lock myself out again.5) Matches nice with my Schlage Georgian style knobs.Shame on Schlage's customer/warranty service.Big yay to amazon's fast delivery and awesome service!Photos can be seen on amazon's product page on the Customer Images section.[EDIT]Finally after 6 months, Deborah Acosta responds with absolutely incorrect resolution and sad attempt to assist me with my warranty claim. This shows me she has no idea what she's doing. Horribly disgusted. Taking this rating down from 3 to 2 stars. After all, the warranty is also part of the product.
Didn't fit in place of my existing deadbolt

I took out my existing deadbolt, and tried to put in this one and the "barrel" that houses the deadbolt slider is too large. It is 1" in diameter and the hole in the side of my door is (I think) 7/8". I thought about just getting a 1" drill bit and making the hole bigger, but then I realized if I didn't get it just right, the deadbolt wouldn't slide into the slot in my door jamb. It would have to be centered and drilled very straight. Someone better with a drill than me could do it, but I was afraid I would ruin the door by mis-aligning it with the slot in the jamb. And once I drilled the hole, the existing deadbolt with the smaller barrel probably wouldn't fit anymore as it'd be too loose. My house is just 12 years old so it's not like I was trying to fit it to a really old door. So, you might want to take a look at what you have now before ordering this. Unfortunately, at least in my door, I can't just take the plate off the side of the door, it looks like I'd have to take the whole mechanism out, and it can be a bit of a pain to get it back together, especially if you just pull the old one out like I did. In my defense, when I unscrewed it, the outside piece just fell out so I didn't even have a chance. A second person to hold the outside piece would help.At a minimum, pay very close attention to how the existing deadbolt fits in case you have to put it back in, and take the existing one out first and measure the hole in the side of the door to see if it fits a 1" barrel before opening the packaging. Fortunately the one I got from Amazon was in a simple cardboard box so I don't think there will be any problem returning it after removing it from the box to try it.The lock itself is very nice, matching the shiny brass handle I already have. It's pretty large, much larger than my simple keyed deadbolt, but to fit the keypad it has to be. It certainly looks like a typically solid Schlage lock. I hate giving it just 3*'s, but I can't very well rate it higher if it doesn't fit and I can't use it.

Great Product (5 stars) but 3rd party seller (1 star): YMMV
September 25, 2017
3 stars because of the seller. Product is 5 stars.Product is great and works well but beware, it is a 3rd party seller. I returned mine because it was clearly already installed and repackaged and bought it from another source brand new.About the packaging: All items were out of the plastic and someone had even written a code on the front of the manual. There were some screws missing as well. They should not be advertising this as new.About the product: it works really well. I bought this due to the alarm feature which was surprisingly louder than I expected. It kicks out a 90db alarm that will definitely wake you in the event that someone is trying to break in or tamper with it.Easy to install, just follow the instructions, and easy to program, again, follow the instructions. Will buy for the other locks in my home but just not from this seller.
Drains Batteries on Z-wave and Wink Hub in 3 weeks
March 31, 2017
I am using the Wink Hub and Zwave protocol to remotely lock the door. The batteries only lasted few weeks. I looked at the activity log and only opened the door 7 times. Cant Figure out why its draining the batteries. I am sending it back. Otherwise I love the lock.

The inside part of the lock feels very flimsy like it will fall apart but the strikeplate is heavy duty. I adjusted the sensitivity to the second lowest and it's still to the point where when anyone even knocks on the door it sets off an alarm. It's rather annoying.
Convenient
January 20, 2017
We have had this door lock for a while. It is very convenient not having to carry keys and being able to open the door from anywhere. The only negative thing I can say is that we have to change the batteries quite often. We use Duracell batteries, but still have to change them frequently.
Doesn't work well with Wink. Otherwise good quality and nice looking on the door.

I got this lock to use with the Wink hub. Unfortunately, the control via the app is intermittent. It will work well for a few times, then it will fail. Oftentimes, when I press either lock or unlock, the icon will keep circling, and it will not perform the action. Wink recently updated the iphone app, and I was told by Wink that this had been corrected. Unfortunately, mine is still doing the same thing. As for the lock itself, it's solid, well built, and looks good on the door. I returned though because it doesn't work well with Wink. I may try the Schlage Sense that works via bluetooth with an iphone.
Worked great for 11 months.
November 2, 2015
Loved it for the first 11 months, then it stopped working. Replaced batteries and it still didn't work. Having trouble contacting Shlage about what to do. However, even if Schlage offers to replace or return, it will most likely still require me to completely remove the deadbolt from the front door of my house for some length of time, which is NOT COOL. Also, when the lock stopped working, it was locked so I had to break in through my own window.BUT when the lock was working for the first 11 months, I absolutely loved it and thought I would never go back to a key.

Great until they aren't!
August 19, 2017
They work great until they don't! I've put five of these up and have to replace two after a year because the vacation mode spring (internal) will give out with wear and prevent the cam from engaging the bolt, it simply spins after the code is put in. This is a known issue with these locks (look on YouTube).
Over ride key is hard to remove, gets stuck
April 11, 2017
The key keeps getting stuck in the lock, the combination lock is okay.
Wears down fast
April 7, 2017
Works fine, only complaint, the numbers are wearing away on the buttons with our code. We've had it for 4 months now. Not impressed
lock slipps
December 29, 2016
I ordered 3 of these to install on the most used doors of my house. Initially I really liked them but recently one of the locks started slipping when turning the knob from the outside. I am unable to lock or unlock it from the outside. It doesn't happen all the time, just most of the time. I know I installed it right because it was the third one I installed and the other two work fine.
Stopped working after 6 months
October 29, 2016
I bought and installed this lock in March 2016 and it was working OK. Somewhere in the mid October I started to experience troubles to lock it. Battery indicator happily blinks green but turning knob produced no effect. At first it happened mostly in the morning when temperature was around 40F, which is of course nothing in comparison to winter cold which is coming. Then when I checked during the day it worked normally for a week and then no longer able to engage it any more. So be ware! I am lucky to discover it when trying to lock the door leaving for work, I can imagine it would happen when I try to open it to get to the house. I am going to contact Schlage for refund/replacement and will update this review based on my experience.
Looks good but operates ok....
April 3, 2015
This is a good electronic set once it works and you can get passed the bugs. After drilling out my door to accommodate it, it was a bit quirky to program and the instructions were not all that clear. It seemed that the instructions were for general Schlage locks and not for this one specifically. This lock accepts only 4 digit codes and the instructions were indicating that I needed a six digit code. After working this out for about 2 hours and going to YouTube, I finally figured it out. The lock seemed to program and all was well until I discovered the next day that the lock was somehow set to unlock and lock with only the press of a button and no code required. I sifted through the instructions and drilled down how to set the codes again and had to ultimately unplug the battery and do a hard reset for this to revert to normal operation. I have the keys as well and as silly as this sounds, the keys do not actually engage or disengage the lock. I am sure there is some sort of setting or programming I need to go over again but for now, I am happy the thing works. Not too sure how long I will have it up but I will update at a later date.

Goes offline periodically and eats through batteries.
March 23, 2017
These locks supposed to work with Z-wave controller Wink. They go offline periodically and eat through batteries. Not happy.
Works great with Wink and looks awesome
January 25, 2017
Have been having issues keeping this connected to my Wink Hub 2. Hub is only 40 feet away and constantly loses connection requiring a reboot of my hub and a reset of the deadbolt by pulling batteries.
Great lock - great battery killer
December 20, 2016
Nice lock works as it should but I have had to change the batteries every 3 to 4 weeks. When I installed it I was careful to make sure there was no drag on the striker plate because I know this can cause battery wear. I use it about twice a day. This unit replaced a Kwikset lock that did not connect to wifi and the batteries would last for about a 8 months so I'm guessing the Schlage's wifi is the battery killer. My Wink hub is about 12 feet from the lock, so I don't think the wifi distance should be the battery killer. I 'm very disappointed with Schlage because their products are usually better than this. I definitely would not recommend this lock. Does anyone know if there is a way to turn the wifi off?
PROs 1) Easy Installation - The instructions are good and installing the ...
September 23, 2016
I have no purchased and installed 5 of these locks across my two houses and while these work very well initially - they are prone to a significant hardware problem that will cause issues for users looking to do home automation and orchestration with this product. This is a quick overview of the pros, cons, and what I consider to be fatal flaws:PROs1) Easy Installation - The instructions are good and installing the lock is easy enough that just about any mechanically inclined person can do it.2) ZWave Pairing - I use Smartthing and pairing the lock and automated operation is seamless. Works GREAT3) Battery Life - If you use qualify alkaline or better yet Lithium batteries you can expect 6+ months life for lightly used doors and 3-4 months for more heavily used doors4) Security - So long as you install the reinforced kick-plate and use the LONG screwed provided this a highly secure lock. It will resist kick-ins much better than a cheaper deadbolt.CONs1) Size - The inside unit is very large and looks bulky on the door. It will likely not suit picky consumers in terms of look/style. Just one man's opinion.2) Size - Both the inside and outside units are large enough that they won't work in every instance. Some deadbolts are mounted very close to the knobs/handles. At least they were at one of my properties, thus an install would have required a new door. Ugh!3) Autolock - While a nice feature obviously the deadbolt has no awareness of it's open/close state, so the deadbolt will lock even if the door is still open. 30 seconds is a short period of time. It would be much better if you could select a time for the autolock function and extend the time.FATAL FLAW:The lock uses a sensor inside to determine if the deadbolt is locked or unlocked at any time. There is a circular surface and the deadbolt knob slides across that surface presumably with either a magnetic or some electrical sensor to detect which way the deadbolt is positioned. That is CRITICALLY important because without that the door does not know if it's locked or unlocked, particularly if you use the manual lock inside. That sensor is extremely prone to failure. On my 5 locks, 4 have failed after 8-14 months of use. That means the lock is very often confused as to whether it is locked or not.WHY THAT MATTERS:1) False Alarms: The lock has an option tamper/force alarm that will sound a loud alarm inside if the lock is tampered with while in a locked state. This is a great feature. BUT if the lock doesn't know if it is actually locked or not, it's a nightmare. Example, wife unlocks front door manually from inside, exits the house, and closes the door behind her. *ALARM*. The deadbolt thinks it's locked, detects the jar of the door closing - and goes off. That also occurs when guests show up and you open the door, let them in, and close the door. UGH UGH UGH. So the alarm feature is basically useless.2) Automation Failures: For automation is is essential that the house knows if the deadbolt is locked or not. You can run routines to "secure the house" and these deadbolts can remain unlocked, because your home automation system will think it is - because the deadbolt THINKS it's locked. But it's not.3) Jam Alerts - The deadbolt will report as "jammed" all the time, because it tries to lock itself, succeeds, but doesn't know it. To the computer int the lock that looks like a jam.So long story short - this lock will work just fine for you if you just want a keypad controlled lock. But any function that requires the lock to be aware of it's lock/unlock state is a major problem. That sensor will almost certainly fail.UPDATE - You can disassemble the lock, carefully clean off the sensor surface and restore function - at least for a few months. But who wants to do that every couple of months? Not me.
Had 5 Sets and the Keypad Stops Working
June 9, 2015
I bought 5 of these locks originally and they were great at first but 4 of them have had the same bad issue...the key pad stops working. They sent me a replacement for one and I only really need 3 now but am down to 2; I took out a door and another is now a dummy door. The same thing has happened to 4 of the keypads. When the keypad's haven't worked, I can open them from my phone via my nexia app as they still have batteries but the keypad just won't work. I have switched the keypads form one to another and it is simply the keypad on each one that has stopped working.Looks like I will have to look into other brands.
Stock up on Batteries
May 17, 2015
I loved this lock when I first got it. I was able to leave my keys and truly go keyless. This lock easily paired with my home automation system and just in time. My son was visiting me but was not able to get in my home while I was at work. I was able to unlock the door for him from many miles away. My condominium neighbors were inspired to get this lock as well. But we all quickly changed our minds about the excitement of keyless entry after a few weeks of use. This lock drains batteries like nobody's business. Since February 2015, I used over 80 batteries (4AA at one time). I spent over $100 this year alone trying to find the right premium alkaline batteries as suggested by the manufacturer. The batteries last anywhere from 7 - 20 days maximum. I must carry my keys with me at all times because I never know when the battery is going to be dead and I won't be able to enter my home. I recently purchased alkaline rechargeable batteries. This won't solve the battery drainage problem nor will I be able to go keyless, but at least I can minimize the battery cost. Disappointed in Schlage. This could be a beautiful thing if the battery problem is resolved.

GARBAGE! Do not buy!
September 13, 2017
Complete garbage, felt chincy opening package, but figured I was being too critical. Apparently not, I am now apparently 2 days outside of the return window (30 days) as I was out of town a couple weekends in a row after purchasing and did not have time to install. It has only been installed for about 2 weeks and it now just spins and does nothing. Do not buy this garbage, clearly it is made to last just long enough to get past the return window and fail.
Buyer beware
July 18, 2017
Didn't use right away because it was too large for the door I ordered it for. Item came open and broken with no keys. Didn't ship it back because it was too expensive. Tried to use it but it does not lock. Never again! Wanted to give no stars but it forced me to give 1
they might be perfectly fine for you

These were incorrectly listed by Amazon as Z Wave compatible devices — they are not. Returned immediately. If you aren't interested in the Z Wave automation, they might be perfectly fine for you.
Horrible! Do not buy from Amazon. Buy it from Home Depot or Lowes so you have a better return window and it's cheaper!!!
April 20, 2016
I've had the refurbished lock for a little over a month. The first time that it wouldn't unlock or lock, I thought it was a fluke. I tried again tonight, and was almost locked out of my place. I took the lock apart, and realized that the piece that controls the lock was very loose. I'm highly disappointed in this and would not recommend anyone buying this product. Unsure how to contact the seller, so no clue on if I would even go through them again. :(
My excitement has faded...
April 27, 2015
I was so excited to get this lock and was looking forward to the freedom it would give me. It worked like a champ for 2 months and then it locked me out of my house. Changed the battery... nothing. I could not return it to Amazon so I called Schlage. Thank goodness they honored their warranty and my new lock is on it's way. The rep promised me this wouldn't happen again (and I certainly hope that is true),. If you are considering a purchase of one of these locks, be sure to put one of the two keys you get with it outside where you can get to it... just in case.
not happy with this deadbolt TWICE
February 5, 2014
within 3 weeks of installing, the keypad malfunctioned and employees could not get in. called Schlage who told me to call amazon. amazon kindly replaced the product with a new one….which then failed 3 weeks later again. called Schlage and got a voice message that they were too busy to take my call and to call back later. called amazon who was helpful yet again and i will be returning this one and going with a different brand. amazon keeps my business and Schlage does not.

Terrible experience, don't buy
November 7, 2017
Product malfunctioned even with codes it came programmed with right before hurricane Irma came in. Being locked out couple of days before a major hurricane when you are rushing around in preparations is a nightmare you don't need. Neither is the professional locksmith fee to gain entrance to your house or the replacement cost for a new bolt lock last minute because now you can't lock your door with the pending emergency. The locksmith even wrote in the bill it was properly installed and the batteries had full power. It was definitely the lock itself. Took all my emergency cash just to get inside my home safely n then have my door secured with a new bolt before a hurricane. I hadn't even had it for 10 days. Wouldn't recommend to anyone!
battery died without warnings.
October 31, 2017
super disappointed in the lock. i've had it for 2 months and one week and i stepped outside to grab the mail and it died - couldn't get back in. i had to pay $150 to a locksmith to get me in through another door and when i was in, replaced the batteries and it's working again. the system never informed me that the batteries were low and quite frankly, they shouldn't be after 2 months of usage. super unacceptable for such an expensive love.
Smart lock that is actually dumb
September 20, 2017
Installation of the lock is relatively straight forward and it looks nice which is a good start, but.....the app will not connect to the lock! Check out the reviews on the play store, nearly all are 1 star because your new smart lock is actually an expensive dumb lock. I wish schlage would spend a little bit of money to develop an app that works. Until then don't bother with lock or stick with another brand that has an app that works. I could get a Samsung smart hub to pair with the lock but you can't setup anything from the hub, you need the terrible schlage app.
Doesn't last
September 20, 2017
Lock doesn't last. Lasted just over a year before it started to fail. Won't lock or unlock. Changed batteries and did a factory reset and it still doesn't work.
Lost connection
September 4, 2017
After two weeks it lost connection to both Homekit and the Schlage app. Have to do a factory reset and start all over. Then, I guess just wait until it does it again. If you read the reviews on the app this is a known issue. I had hoped the latest revision took care of it. Nope.
