Side by Side Comparison of: Imperial vs Suavecito

I have been using Latrite, suavecito, and other water based and oil based pomades. This is definitely in my top 3. Love the strong hold, and decent shine this pomade executes. Stronger hold than Layrite, and adds volume to my thin Asian hair. It’s up to par with layrite and I can’t say which is better but, this definitely has a stronger hold. On the other hand i do like the smell, which is fruity, but prefer layrite in terms of smell. Overall great water-based pomade and will def keep purchasing.

Great product - doesn't take much to hold hair down at all. Quite strong yet doesn't make your hair feel like straw after you've got it where you need. Also it gives your hair just that sort of wet and damp look. It doesn't give off any brilliant shine or gloss and make you look like a greaseball which I was afraid it might.Ease of use - As advertised, you can easily wet your comb or hands and restyle as necessary. Washing it out is extremely simple and it leaves not a single trace.The scent is definitely a cool watermelon smell, I suppose it is somewhat random and may be a little polarizing (if you had a bad watermelon experience, I guess) but for the most part I was pretty indifferent. I like the way it smells and it's not invasive at all.Overall for the price you can probably also go the way of some of the Muk products which I was initially looking at, but for a high fade with long hair on top like what I have this worked perfectly fine when my Axe and Crew products could no longer handle the job. Will buy again and will also try and explore some other types from this company.

Until I discovered this product, I had assumed there was nothing that could hold my thick, straight Asian hair throughout the day. For example, the often touted Gatsby wax does nothing to hold my hair, and the slightest gust of wind is enough to completely dishevel it. But with this pomade, I can walk through gale force winds without a hair out of place. I use it to do a classic slick back look.Note that this pomade is almost like a gel, in that it will harden and dry out after you apply it to your hair. You need to apply water (a wet comb will do) in order to re-style your hair. On the plus side, this means you don't need hair spray - your hair should "set" into the shape you styled it. On the down side you may find that it "flakes" if you try to comb it too much especially when dried out.You will also need reasonably long hair to slick it back properly - if your hair is too short then no product will be sufficient to hold it in place. I would say your hair needs to be at least 3" long for this to really work.Another plus w/ this product, I have much less skin problems with this pomade than with Layrite, which gives you the "wet" greasy look but also made me break out.

I've been using Imperial Classic for almost 2 years. It's a god-send.I tried Imperial Classic Pomade after being referred to by a friend and haven't deviated from this glorious product since. I have a pretty thick head of hair and only use a little bit to shape and mold my hairstyle. 6oz might seem like not a lot, but it lasts me almost 5 months. It's not super sticky or thick, but is not light like a lot of "pomades" I've used. If you have a combover or gentlemen's cut, I highly urge you to try this pomade out.It'll probably change your life. I went from a teenager to a man after using this pomade.You're welcome.

I have tried A LOT of Pomade's and this is hands down the greatest product I have used. I have thin hair that tends to wave when its dry and it performs flawlessly like no other. The watermelon scent is light but pleasing when you first apply it but I have not noticed it after its combed in. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this product to anyone looking for a water soluble Pomade. Simply the BEST!

(My husband is writing this review as the product is used by him) I started with having my hair cut into a razor faded side part. I was using shaping cream to style my hair, which did work. However, it was very hard to get styled and would not maintain through the day.Then I discovered Imperial classic pomade. Total game changer, if you are into prohibition style haircuts. It has fantastic hold without being stiff or greasy to the touch. I have even gone to bed and woke up the next morning with hair still in place. I have very thick hair and this product has been the best by a long shot. The price is another plus. I had paid $15 dollars for 3oz. jar of shaping cream with mediocre results. I paid $20 for 6oz. of Imperial classic pomade with great results. Would definitely recommend.

I believe Got2B was causing my hair to thin, so hopefully this stuff reverses that. But even if it doesn't, this stuff is better. The hold is almost as strong (plenty firm) and can be adjusted later. If it gets messed up, I just take a comb and fix it - no problem, and no white flakes. It smells really great, and my hair isn't crunchy anymore, which my girlfriend likes. When I wash it out of my hair, it leaves it quite soft. It took a little practice to learn how to use it properly, but I've got it figured out now.

Suavecito is amazing. I love their pomades and products. They are a local company, and their headquarters are about 15 minutes from my home. I like supporting local business, and they offer wonderful products. The Firme Hold is great for my hair, however even the standard hold works well. I love the scent of the original formula, but they also have seasonal scents that are great too! I have used quite a few different pomades and Suavecito is by far my favorite so far. It holds all day, and washes out easily. I don't see myself switching brands anytime soon!

I have fairly thick but fine hair; and every pomade to date either simply doesn't work, made my hair greasy, or was SO waxy that it required a mug warmer to use. I bought a can of this stuff based simply on the reviews it garnered, and I haven't been displeased so far. It holds my hair like concrete even during some standard Missouri windstorms, yet doesn't leave it greasy. The *only* possible complaint is that it may leave the hair a bit 'hard,' but it's kind of hard to have it all. It works great, my hair stays put, and that's what I want. :)

Great customer service! I had been looking for hair product for a very long time. I have always had issues with gel flaking up in my hair, and hair spray making it hard as a rock. I tried suavecito for the very first time today since I just got my haircut and I LOVE IT. I have very difficult hair because of its extreme thickness, and sauvecito held it up through the day and work without a single problem. My hair is still soft and managable and the best thing is NO FLAKES! I love suavecito and I plan on buying again and again

I've stopped using gel since middle school and ever since then never really bought any hair products but this pomade is something I should've bought long time ago. It smells great and leaves my hair how I want it to be. Thanks very much I recommend it!

I have been suavecito for a couple of years now and I absolutely love it. I have thick islander hair and I work in the Casino industry so I have to look presentable and the only product that does the trick the way I like it is suavecito. I love the product and the smell of it is a great.

I like this pomade. I usually dampen my fingers with water and lightly rub it on the pomade, then run my fingers through my hair. I don't put it on very thick so this tub will last a long time. It has a nice sweet smell, too. Just wondering, does anyone else think that insects are attracted to your hair when you use this pomade? I seem to wave away gnats all the time now, maybe attracted to the sweet smell?

This does the trick for thick straight hair if you want a pomade look.The hardness/crunchiness is minimal for something that can hold that type of hair back.Takes of a lot of fluffy and long where to really start showing white flakiness- that's if you don't wash your hair everyday!Wish it had a more masculine smell instead of a faint watermelon scent- but again it's very minimalIt is easy to work into hair- I would say this is between a true pomade and a paste

This is my first time trying this pomade, and overall it's pretty good. It has a very strong hold and good lasting power without making my hair too stiff or crunchy. I end up using a little less of this than I did with my previous TRENDstarter pomade, which is nice. My one complaint is that I'm not a fan of the scent, which is light but smells of honeydew melon. I'm sure lots of people will like that, but it's not really the kind of scent I'm looking for in a hair care product and I wish there'd been an indication of the kind of scent on the product description or label.

Love the smell. Its a watermelon scent¡¡¡ not overpowering. In terms of hold, i am a little dissapointed, the label says is the strongest hold but for a thick hair like mine it doesnt do the job at 100%. I was using Steadfast Anchor Hold and i think is better than this one. It takes a long time to dry and and the grip is not that firm. I might go back to my other pomades. Sorry Imperial i gave you a try.

I used cheap oil based stuff before this, and had no idea how much of a difference an extra few dollars could make. I might try other stuff later but for now this is my go to hair product. The hold is great if you blow dry your hair before. The reason I give this 4 stars and not 5 stars is because the water reactivation is a double edged sword. Sometimes I don't have time to reapply, so all I need to do is wet my hands and run it through my hair and my hair is good as new. The other side of this is that sometimes, I'm out with friends at night dancing or running and I might sweat a little bit and my hair will lose its shape. All in all, it gets the job done and more, highly recommended.

I've gone through a ton of other hair products finding something that will hold longer "heavy" hair without drying into some crackly mess. This stuff is doing good so far.The smell: interesting smell, nothing offensive, but could certainly have a bit more manly musk to it or somethingThe hold: The stuff works. Period. Holds everything in place, you can apply at different levels of dryness for different holds, very flexible and working well.The application: this is where it's weird, when it starts out from the container, it's like a super think gel. Apply to dryer hair and it'll have a really strong hold and is harder to apply. Apply to too wet of hair and it starts breaking down and turns almost into what looks like shampoo in you hair (don't worry it'll dry fine!)Find the perfect balance and play with different levels of hold and dryness.Good product, hope they come out with some variants!

Con: It does what it's designed to; style your hair and hold it in place the way you want it. My disappointment with this product at the end of the day, is that, the hold isn't "Strong" at all. It's should really be labelled "Medium" hold or even less than that.Pro: On the plus side, this Pomade goes on clean, makes your hair shiny, and overall doesn't leave much residue. Easy to clean off, just rinsing your hair. You might need to apply a lot more to get a stronger hold.

This is a good price to quality ratio product. It's not my favorite I've used, but it's pretty effective. You have to use only the right amount, because too much of this stuff will harden like gel. It's a stronger hold than most pomades. But if used right, it's good stuff and reactivates easily. Also is very easy to wash out in the shower.

I have used countless different gels, waxes and creams with lack luster results. This stuff is great! I'm not saying it's the best out there but for the price it's a good product. I have very thick hair and I am male. It works great for me and keeps my hair in place all day. It doesn't make your hair crunchy and it's easy to get off your hands and out of your hair. Others have complained about the smell, I don't find it to be a problem. It does have a scent but it's not that strong and if no one would have brought it up I would have never really noticed. Now they might be using a large amount of the product which I could see might create a stronger odor. If you are the average guy that just likes his hair to stay in place I would give this a shot. I really like it.

The hold on this pomade is probably some of the best I've found. I have very thick and it never cooperates with what I want to do. However, this pomade had enough hold to allow me to do what I want.The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because the fragrance reminds me of old school after shave. It's not overly pleasant, but it's not terrible. However, if you're a younger guy, not sure how this will help in your dating game.

My hair is thick, naturally wavy and tends to have frizzy flyaways when using a water based pomade. No mater if I blowed dried it straight and used a pomade like American crew, within an hour it would lose shape and fall out of place.The thing that is great about this is it's thick and sticky/firm. Using a comb, I was able to drag it through from scalp to top of the hair, pinning it down in place, and it stays smooth and looks slick for the rest of the day.The only reason it doesn't get 5 stars is because after about 30 minutes, it tends to dry hard, like a hair gel. This doesn't seem to be a problem, but if you want a pomade that is flexible during the day, meaning you can change it up, this may not be for you.All in all solid pomade and great for the price. It even smells great too!

Very good pomade. It holds well and smells good. For me, it smells like Irish Spring bath soap. I can put a generous amount of this in my hair (because I have thick hair), and it lasts a couple of days if I don't wash it out. When ready to wash it out, you just need a little bit of shampoo to lather in, and it comes out easily in the shower. The only downside to Suavecito Firme Hold is that the shine does it provides does not last too long. If it were high shine, this would be my perfect pomade. I will buy more of this when I run out of it because it keeps my hair in place better than other products, plus the price is reasonable. When I wake up in the morning with Suavecito Firme Hold in my hair, it's still mostly in place. All I have to do is wet my hair and reshape it. Larga vida Suavecito!

This left my forehead with a lot of oil which created acne. Also it leaves the hair very stiff not smooth. It gives a lot of shine however it was not the look I was going for. I did not end up using the full pomade because of the oil and acne it was creating.

I tried this a few times when my hair was about 6 inches in length... It barely worked. Now that it shorter is holds better... This strong hold is not strong at all...

It is a great product in terms of binding and overall ease of use but definitely can't be tricky for people with acne prone skin like mine. It can easily clog pores and create supergiant acne in those warm sweaty days. In winter months, though, I have found it a bit more manageable.It's a good binding agent for a sleek look, especially if your hair sticks out at the end or are too long to part, like​ mine.

Meh. Read a great review on a blog site and was excited to try it. In the end though, I sent it back. Great scent, but not a good hold through the day.

So I have some experience with a few water based pomades,I've tried layrite superhold and regular hold, I've tried suavecito strong hold and so far classic pomade by imperial. I have thick curly/wavy hair so I need something that is going to hold throughout the day. I would have to say that classic pomade by imperial did not do the job for me. Not only isn't it a strong hold as stated on canister, I also feel I have to use a ton only to get an ok hold. For my hair type this will not work. Suavecito firm hold does a way better job and costs less too. This product suits people best with straight hair,not curly or wavy. You will find your hair curling instead of maintaining the hair style desired. Won't give this a try again but I might try the gel pomade and see if there's a difference in hold.

If you're going to be sitting in a nice cozy air conditioned office all day, this will work great. If you're planning on getting outside and being a man in the Texas heat, this stuff will melt right out of your hair. Sunlight seems to loosen it up, not sweat. Sure, I wouldn't doubt that I've sweated it right out of my hair many times, but it seems that the moment I walk into the sunlight, this stuff goes from having a strong gel-like hold to becoming a drippy soft mess. This is an effect that I haven't seen any reviews mention.Bottom line, If you live in Texas, this stuff won't cut it in the heat. Will melt in your car too, so don't make that mistake.The scent is that of a watermelon jolly rancher being stuck up each nostril, but it goes away after about 20 minutes.

Good, just sometimes when I sweat or if I am in the sun, the pomade somewhat 'loosens' up and doesn't give a solid look. Maybe because my hair is thick, its more for people with thinner hair

felt bit old than fresh and new. I have order it before in their website and it came smooth and soft but I order last old on amazon. it came very hard like it was an old one that's be in stock for a while

Leaves your hair chunky and hard. Ive been using two alternatives to this: Axe "Clean Look" Pomade (~$9 a container) and Pete and Pedro Pomade (AMAZING but expensive at (~$20 a container). I tried Suavecito for about a month or so and just couldnt get my hair to feel good even halfway through the day, even though it usually looked pretty good.

This product works just like any other product out there. I have thick-medium length hair and this stiff only holds my hair for about 2-3 hours. I have to combo it with hairspray for that extra hold.

This is my go-to pomade that I've been using it for a couple of years now. It has a strong hold, is easy to wash out, and the price is great for the quality. I don't see myself switching anytime soon. Highly recommended!Edit: One or two days after I wrote this review I went to purchase a new jar and the price had raised almost $2....this means that in the in the 2ish years since I started using this product the price has risen almost $5. It's still a good product but I'm not sure if the value is there anymore, I'm going to try Imperial this time around which isn't much more money for 6oz.

When I bought this I was just looking for something else to style my side part comb over. Just something else That I could use besides my Axe clean cut look pomade. Suavecito just seemed cool so I decided to try it and this is what I found:It seems to be rather strong vs the Axe and thus that could either be a bad or good thing for me it was towards the bad. since my hair combs easily into my style already, suavecito made it look like longer and pointer vs smooth and clean cut. It made it look like too straight and flat. The hair was just harder overall.Also the smell was good at first but after an 8 hour day it just took its toll on me.Overall suavesito firme hold is more for people who's hair is harder to style and thus need a strong grip. For me It doesn't achieve a smooth look therefore ill still use it occasionally but I will still stick to my Axe clean cut look pomade

Pretty let down by this. I've used imperial for a while now. Usually the 4 classic. I went with the 5 because my hair is now longer and need extra hold. It gets kind of sticky and doesn't look nearly as good. Bummer.

My problem with this product is that my hair tends to fall out of place by mid-day. It holds well in the morning, but just doesn't have the longevity that I'm looking for in a pomade. Can't argue with the price, but I think there are better pomades out there.

I was in the market for a less shiny/glossy Pomade and after reading some of the reviews of the Imperial brand, I'd give it a try...Mistake..Product does give you less of shine but DOES NOT HOLD well for my hair...I usually part my hair to the side or slick it back with no problem with products like Layrite or Suavecito..but with Imperial, it does not hold in place. They claim, re-activating it with water would help...not one bit...I would not recommend this product for folks looking to have their in place for more than 2 hrs...and that smell is aweful...smells good in the jar (watermelon scent) but after 2hrs or so, the scent starts to fade and just smells horrible...Back to Suavecito!

Pretty good but not as good as layrite, I really wanted to like this stuff because layrite smells terrible but it doesn't hold as strong as layrite and I get a million flyaways with this where with layrite there might be one or two. My hair is very wavy and thick so if yours is the same, save the trouble and go with layrite.Update: I wrote this review while I was at work, a couple hours into my day. As I was driving home with the window down, my hair started flying all around so this stuff barely made it through 9hours. Again layrite strong hold is better,I drive with the windows down with it in, I wear my motorcycle helmet, and I've slept with it in and it holds up well.

Not really crazy about this stuff. I was trying to find a replacement for American Crew Pomade, but this does not even come close. Way too much hold, and I have very thick hair, so I like some hold, but not too much. I don't think it is easy to put on either....way too thick. The smell is not bad though, like some have said, faintly like watermelon. I have to say though, it does it's job over a long day and reactivates with a bit of water as well, so in that respect I would give it 4-5 stars. Also, it is not greasy after you put it in your hair as AC is unfortunately, that is another bonus as well. I only wish I had not bought the 6 oz size, not sure what I am going to do with it all....

Honestly feels more like a gel than a pomade. If my hair is damp at all this has absolutely no holding power. I would probably be more willing to test this pomade out and figure out how it works to achieve my desired look, but i really cannot stand the smell. It has a strong watermelon candy smell that I am not a fan of. I would not say this is a bad product, I just don't think it is what I am looking for. I have had success with other water based pomades but just couldn't get myself to like this one.

Been using D:Fi products for years and wanted to switch it up. This product is very thick and difficult to spread on your hands and work into your hair. I find it leaves my hair very dry.

I usually use American Crew pomade and I thought I would try this stuff since it's cheaper and has good reviews. However, I really don't like it. The smell is fine and it feels nice but once it's in your hair is gets hard, much like hair gel, not like a pomade...maybe that's because it is the extra hold version? but if you like your hair to not be crunchy, don't buy this stuff.

I have heavy thick hair that gets wavy the longer it gets.This product was too crunchy and the smell was over powering for the amount I had to use to tame my hair. I felt this product actually worked better when it was left in my hair the day after applying. Not for me.... went for a water based clay instead.

It's supposed to have a strong hold. It doesn't, it lasts probably 5 minutes and then your hair flies around like there is nothing on it. I've tried applying it in different ways and different quantities, it just doesn't do it's job very well.

Hold is pretty good for the first few hours. Don't like the smell at all. Looks like frozen coca-cola jelly.

I think they mixed up the strong hold and regular hold. The container reads strong hold, but the pomade itself is regular hold. It's the s come one that I've gotten it like that. The other one was from a store. Maybe suavecito isn't making them as concentrated as before..?

Posting this on my wife's account: I purchased this due to all the high number of 5 star reviews. At least for my hair it does not work that great. I'm a white male with thin hair. It does hold well but it makes your hair all crusty looking and has this watermelon smell to it. Took a chance on it with the almost $20 price and good reviews but will not be buying this again. :(

Arrived late and recived "fiber pomade" not the classic one in the picture beware

I'm really not satisfied with this product. It held up somewhat well during the last few weeks of winter weather, but the moment the temperatures hit above 75 this stuff just melts right out. I honestly can't use it at all until next winter, so I'll be searching for a different product to hold me over the summer.

Not at all what i expected. This is like a cheap hair gel not a pomade.

Great smelling product, and holds well for maybe the first hour. But really not intended for thick coarse hair as it quickly wore out within an hour of leaving the house. Also not a great product for trying to touch up either because once it sets if you touch it could become flaky with white specs in your hair.

chunky, clumpy and feels like it's going to rip my hair out. I don't like this and it doesn't hold my hair well.

Anyone else only get half a can of this ?

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. It was either fake or defective. The product was nothing like the original, had a completely different texture, consistency and color. Horrible!

Definitly not a strong hold, last about 1 hr don't know why this is so highly reviewed. American Crew has worked way better for the IMO

It didn't hold my hair I had to use hair spray. I am very disappointed in this product it was a waste of money for me.

Scent is overwhelming for sensitive noses.

I don't think the product I received is authentic. My barber uses the same one on my hair and his comes out way harder with less product.
