It is perfect living in a snow filled town
January 6, 2017
I use this little tool every morning! It is perfect living in a snow filled town. I especially like that I can use it with gloves on and I still get good grip on it. Ordered one for my hubby so we don't fight over who gets it anymore.
Good, inexpensive scraper
January 2, 2017
This is an inexpensive ice scraper and it works well. I've tried others with a longer handle but have trouble getting enough force on the scraper to get under the ice. We don't get a lot of snow or ice here so it only gets minimal use, maybe 20 times a year and it is typically light snow, but I've had a few of these through my life and have found them to be durable enough to last for years. I am only purchasing this one because I lost my last one. I find this to be the best solution for my needs that I have tried.

it scrapes ice! It costs less than the hot coffee that wouldn't melt the ice on your windshield anyway, and this way you get to keep the coffee to hold in your hands and warm up your fingers after scraping the windshield!
Best I have found
February 16, 2016
I have used these for many years. I have experimented with other brands, some much fancier, but I still think these are the best. The frost scraper is the best I have found. More surprising, the ice cutter when inverted is more effective than others which looked more aggressive. It may not be very flashy, but it works better than any other I have tried.
Expert Ice Removal
August 25, 2015
Living in Texas you would think I would never need one of these. But the ONE day a year I need it, I really need it. We get crazy ice here from time to time.Don't be the idiot that tosses a bucket of hot water on your windshield, scratches your windows with a butter knife, or ruins plastic items trying to chip ice off your windows. Save $$$ in gas instead of idling for 30 minutes trying to warm you car up enough to melt the crap off.Buy yourself this decent and sturdy scraper, and be ready for Mother Nature this winter.

I've had one of these before and lost it so bought one for each of our rigs. These are excellent scrapers; they have a short handle that fits under the seat well but not so short you end up with ice all over your wrist if you use it right, the handle is sturdy so it doesn't bend or wobble. A good buy and a good product.

Bought as a little gift. Haven't used all season (in Atlanta) but when we need it, it will be the right tool for the windshield especially. Strong design and material.
Good cheap snow brush
March 1, 2017
Good cheap snow brush. I removed the plastic ice scraper because I use a better scraper one (has a brass blade which is more durable and effective.)
Just What I Was Looking For
April 2, 2016
The wife stole my window scraper so I needed a new one. All of the ones I found locally were cheap and flimsy. Luckily, I found this one and it's fairly cheap and does a great job.
Large, strong, and perfect for reaching the hard to reach areas when it's too cold to "mess around" with something else.
December 8, 2015
Not long after ordering two of these I received a large box from UPS. I was surprised to see how big these things actually were.My wife is short (she disagrees but that's another story) and has difficulty reaching across the windshield, I am tall (6') but have a very large truck that makes it difficult even for me to reach across the windshield. These worked perfectly for both and they are made of some pretty strong plastic that I expect to last for years.

Received this today, during a snowstorm- good timing. I've not had good experiences with plastic-bladed scrapers in the past, so I had low expectations, but this scraper actually worked very well. It seems sturdy and well-made, and the brush is quite stiff, so I expect it to handle wet heavy snow. I can also see that the ice scraping ridges are placed where they can be used, unlike one of my old scrapers. Best of all, Made In U.S.A.!! Somehow I missed that when I ordered it (due to the reasonable price, maybe), so it was a very pleasant surprise. Great value, glad I took the chance and ordered one for each vehicle!
A no-brainer - put it in your shopping cart.
December 1, 2014
I've owned a lot of ice scrapers in my day - and this one ranks up there with the best of them in the moderate price range. Considering I paid well under $4 delivered for these (I got one for each car) I'd say they are the perfect Add-On item to put in your shopping cart. The handle is sturdy and it has all the scraping and brushing capabilities it needs to have to safely and effectively clear snow, frost, and light ice from your vehicle's windows. The handle is long enough that you'll be able to scrape and brush well past the mid-line of your car.

Some of these scrapers are poorly assembled and easily damaged. This scraper is worth the price and built to last.
Wonder why a Subzero needs this, but it does.
February 18, 2014
We would never ever buy a Subzero refrigerator again. It has built up ice on its back wall since day one. Oh, yes, they have tried numerous solutions, but none ever worked. This last time, we took the whole back panel out of the refrigerator and there was also ice between the back wall and the decorative inside back wall. Anyway, this little claw works pretty well with elbow grease.

If you have a small car this is perfect for it; alittle small for my car but works just as described.
Works great in medium duty environments
December 9, 2016
I now have four of these in all our family vehicles. We live in Seattle, so we don't get a lot of snow. But we get a lot of frost and ice on the cars in the morning. This is perfect for scraping off the frost, and occasionally some snow.
Nice
March 19, 2016
It's a nice sturdy Ice Scrapper, it does it's job.
Long life, short whiskers.
March 20, 2015
Got a good deal on this in late summer. After a few uses (in CO), its still holding up strong. However, 2 issues arose. 1) the scraper is not bent enough or the brush whiskers not long enough to allow getting those nooks and crannies in the wiper well, spot between the side mirrors and window, etc. 2) the scraper, if curved a bit more would make it easier to lean into a scrape and causing less fatigue in the forearms. But hey, for a couple dollars, its sturdy as heck and will last a long time.
old design, as expected
February 17, 2014
I was looking for a ice scraper that allowed for easy scraping - the brush was an added bonus for me. This design with the brush and the scraper at one end is an old design that I used to use decades ago and knew. Most other models seem to have them at opposite ends and I suspected that the scraper may be awkward to operate. Having the brush at the same end as the scraper makes the brush operation a bit uneasy, but I suspect that it is one or the other and I still prefer to be able to use the scraper with force and put up with a bit of awkwardness with the brush, than the other way around. The scraper could be stronger but for that I believe you need to go with a metal blade, one that I did not want to try yet. Recommend it.
Good product...bad seller.
December 30, 2013
The brush is great. I was hoping it would be a little longer, but it gets the job done and seems very sturdy. A definite for the price! However, be mindful of who you order this from. Somehow I ordered through "Auto Alley" vs Amazon directly. It took 14 DAYS (and past the promised delivery time) to receive and when I received it, it was shipped in a clear plastic bag with a label slapped on it. The scraper part wasn't even IN the bag, the bag was twisty tied "shut" right below the scraper part. Unreal!! I order online A LOT and have never received something as poorly packaged as this. The return sender wasn't even a business, it was some man's name!

Works...for a while. The grooves between teeth are open and once the end is worn, the teeth break off. Might make it one season but if they'd fill in the gaps with plastic, it'd last much longer.

I don't want to completely trash this product, because it is under $3... Bottom line, you get what you pay for. If you find yourself de-icing your car more than a few times each winter, I suggest investing in better equipment. If ice is pretty infrequent where you are and you just need something to get by, this is a nice little number.
not bad, not great
January 30, 2012
I recently moved from California to Baltimore. I don't have a lot of experience in cold weather, but it didn't take long to know that this is an absolutely necessary tool in these parts. I purchased the Hopkins 16721 Bear Claw 10 inch ice scraper and I've had the chance to use it a few times now. I now know that there are some downfalls to this particular item. First, the handle is too short. I have a truck and it's difficult for me to reach all across the windshield. Next, the ice creeps up the handle and gets on my gloves or hands - so if you're looking at a 10 min. job, good luck... Your hands will freeze. I recommend a longer handle, particularly if you cannot comfortably reach to all parts of your vehicle using it. For small jobs, however, this is a nice tool to have. Perhaps the most effective preparation would be to have two of these - one with a short handle and one with the long handle for times when the snow and ice are thick. Good luck :-)

Good for the price, but you pay for what you get
January 15, 2017
For the price it is fantastic, but you do get what you pay for. I have a Toyota 4Runner so I wish I had something a little more substantial. If you have icey windows/snow on a regular basis I'd recommend getting something a little bigger. The problem when scraping is you want to put your hand where the brush is to have leverage for scraping ice, but doesn't work with the brush in the way. I've also found the brush to be worthless in brushing any amount of snow more than a dusting off the car.
Good
February 12, 2014
The brush works alright. The scraper is a bit annoying because when I'm scraping ice off of my cars glass it tends the scrape a 1/2 inch line only. Why? I don't know. So it takes awhile to scrape the ice when I'm taking thin lines off per scrape. It's an alright product I guess.
Its a snow brush
January 17, 2014
hard to get excited about a snow brush. Best I can say is it came quickly, it is 22" long, mine is Grey and it works. Now if I could just get my 13 year old 5'11" son to do it for me it would be perfect. Normally wouldn't order something this cheap on line due to shipping costs but it was part of a larger order. The box it came in (separately) seemed overkill it was bout 6" x 6" x 4' with several wads of paper to hold the brush still. There goes a couple more trees.
Good but not great.
December 25, 2013
I liked the price on this scraper so I gave it a try. It worked great the first few times I needed it but now the blade has cupped or something because it only scrapes a line about an inch or so wide. To my naked eye it looks fine, but when called to action it just doesn't perform like it did out of the box. I recommend it if you're not up against a long season of heavy ice and will use only occasionally. For me I think my next move will be a brass bladed scraper.

not as well made as my old Hopkins ice scraper
November 24, 2015
not as well made as my old Hopkins ice scraper. The handle is plastic. My old scrapper had a rubber-like handle. Also, the head of the scraper can slide off the handle. You have to firmly pull it, but it does come off. I'm thinking that will not be an issue when using it, but it would have been nice if they had properly made this scraper.
Could be a lot better
January 31, 2011
It's depressing that these scrapers have gained a near-monopoly in retail stores. Most have small manufacturing defects--little chips or protrusions on the edge--which make it impossible to remove all of the ice or frost in one pass. Although the design has the potential to conform the scraping edge to curved glass, the plastic is too stiff for that to happen effectively.I've had much better luck with brass-blade scrapers. These will not scratch most windshields (though I've experienced significant scratching in cheaply-made windshields).
Will work if its the only thing you have
December 13, 2010
I have lived my entire life in Alaska where winter can be from the end of September through May sometimes so I've used quite the variety of ice scrapers in my life, from the spendy fad-of-the-year scrapers to credit cards and fingernails.I grew up with the brass bladed ice scrapers as the ONLY kind of scraper but (until recently made available on Amazon) they had become almost impossible to find. We went for years without the brass bladed scrapers and had to make do with dozens of substitutes, including these "Bear Claw" scrapers in their variety of forms. The thing about most plastic bladed scrapers, including these by Hopkins, is that if you have any kind of decent ice or frost on your windows the scraper generally first scrapes off the top layer of frost and THEN the ice itself and almost always in tiny parallel stripes, not one big stripe the width of the blade. Sometimes a newer scraper will work okay for awhile but it never lasts long. Not only that but the plastic with its fluted design becomes very brittle in colder weather and ends up breaking and looking like it is missing "teeth". If you're careful one of these can last a few years but in my opinion why bother when it is such an inferior tool for the job?I instead heartily recommend the CJ Industries F101 Fantastic Ice Scraper with Brass Blade (what a mouthful). I recently received one of these from my father that he'd had for the past 25 years, bequeathing it to me like a priceless family heirloom - because we thought they were no longer made. Everyone in my household fights over my brass-bladed scraper because it does the job fast and well. And its a few bucks cheaper than this plastic piece of crap by Hopkins.

I was very satisfied with that previous model
April 12, 2016
I purchased this particular model after my other Hopkins snowbrush snapped (due to me using it incorrectly). I was very satisfied with that previous model, but thought I'd try this one. The brush on this one really sucks and the handle is extremely uncomfortable.
It's not bad.....it's a scraper lol.
November 19, 2015
It's ok, found some at the dollar store that seem to hold up as well.
Not worth the bargain
November 19, 2014
The scraper works but isn't the best. It seems the plastic may have a slight curve in it and doesn't conform flat on the windshield (as if it were 3 flat, maybe it scrapes off 2.3" when pushed, etc). But it will do.As for the brush- it was smooshed in packaging, apparently, and when I opened it- the bristles were bent in every direction (except up) for the most part and I've yet to be able to straighten them out to actually be functional.I'm afraid you get what you pay for with this scraper.. I purchased it as a cheap add-on item because I live in a southern state that gets very little cold weather and minimal ice to deal with on my vehicle (not much point in buying something expensive I thought) but this turned out to be a bit of a waste of money, as little as it was.
Good idea in theory, not in practice
January 29, 2014
I now understand why it was only $4. It's a great idea, in theory, to have a brush and a scraper all in one. However, the brush is almost useless on this one because when using it on anything but the center of the windshield you run the risk of scratching up your paint job.
Cheap and flimsy
February 17, 2013
I usually don't write reviews... but I was shocked at how cheap and flimsy this thing is. Maybe I am just used to beefier snow brushes being from Ohio. So not very super deluxe in my opinion
Thin frost is OK. But useless on ice.
January 8, 2009
I have owned this snow-brush for several years. My main usage is the ice scraper part of it. For light over-night frost buildup, this tool is sufficient. But this is definitely the wrong tool for light and thin ice (not even heavy ice) buildup on the windshield. First, the front edge of the ice scraper has hard time to grap onto the light thin ice. Secondly, the plastic ice scraper can not sustain heavy scarping work. My ice scraper got broken while trying to remove some light thin ice. For think ice on the windshield, don't even think about using this tool. You pay with what you get. Now I am looking for more heavy duty ice scraper.

It would be great for 'icy morning glass drawing
July 7, 2017
The blade does not seat against the glass -- that is, there is only a small portion of the blade that touches the windshield at any one time. It would be great for 'icy morning glass drawing,' but a bunch of thin lines across the glass is not what I wanted from an ice scraper. I had better luck with a credit card...
piece of junk
October 2, 2013
The plastic "blade" isn't even attached to the handle - you can pull it right out, and it doesn't look sharp enough to handle the scraping anyway. I returned it.

Broke in half the first time I tried to use it
April 29, 2017
This seemed like a simple enough product to order online. When it arrived, the whole scraper looks cheaper than the photos. I just tossed it in my car then then first time it snowed quite a bit I just worked from home then the next day the snow had melted a bit on to my car. I went to use this to get the icy snow off the car, which took a bit of force but was fine with my previous scraper I had used for years, but literally on day one the black scraping portion broke off! Not acceptable.

Used this to clear my windshield of Ice in zero degree temps, when attempting to free the wipers from being encased in ice the scraper plastic just broke. I have lived in and around snow country for over 40 years and this is the first time I've had a scrapper fail like that. The cheap price is not worth having something fail when you really need it in a heavy storm or extreme cold. Had to buy a new scraper at city market which was three times the price but had no problem with the ice. Don't waste your money here.
If you want a $4 snow brush, look no further. If you need a scraper, keep looking.
February 18, 2015
Product arrived defective. The blade did not fully contact the windshield, instead only a small portion (about an inch around the middle and a millimeter on either corner) would contact and scrape the frost off of the car. You may be better off removing the blade and just using the brush which is not half bad. Great price, but save your money and trouble on that icy morning.

April 3, 2014
It broke the first time it was used. There did not appear to be any defect in it, but it snapped with just snow.
fine design, arrived damaged
November 12, 2013
I bought this to replace the one my kids dragged down the driveway, slightly damaging the scraper blade so that it would not scrape the windshield smoothly. I would get streaks instead of a nice scrape. The new one I ordered here came with the blade dinged up already, giving me the same streaking effect as my 5 year old one that the kids dragged down the driveway. It would be fine on powder snow or thick ice, probably. Not good at all on that fine ice sheet that forms on my car from condensation. Not good at all for what I needed.
