I highly recommend them for airplane noise
July 18, 2017
You just can't beat them for the price. I highly recommend them for airplane noise, road noise, or any other repetitive noise. For noises like conversations, babies, horns, crashing plates, etc, they won't remove the noise so much as dull it...but that's still preferable to the alternative. Beats the hell out of sitting on a flight with a screaming baby and no recourse.
Solid set of headphones for the price
March 10, 2017
Solid set of headphones for the price. No case included. Nice build quality. Noise Cancellation is not Bose QC quality but it does actually work. Powered by one included AAA battery. Nice balance of bass and treble. Not sure how long the battery cover will last, this is the only weakness I notice in the design. Highly recommend.
Can't go wrong for the price!
October 4, 2016
I love these headphones. I've had Bose for about 12 years, but the foam around the earpieces began disintegrating recently. I wanted to replace the Bose for a cross-country plane trip, but didn't want to break the bank. These Sony headphones fit the bill perfectly. First, the price cannot be beat. But also, the sound quality is surprisingly sharp. And while the Sony headphones don't give the ear coverage of the Bose, they still do a very effective job of reducing noise on the plane.I love the headphones. And I bought a second pair for my wife. These are the first headphones she has ever used, and she loves them as well. Highly recommend!
Great sound. Package arrived in great shape
March 20, 2016
Great sound. Package arrived in great shape. I love using these when traveling on airplanes to reduce the engine (and people) noise. These are the second set we've bought. Bought a set as a gift and he loves them as well. If you're using them with an old-school sound system, you may need a larger jack adapter to fit the stereo or an guitar amp.
Good phones

Great set of headphones for what I needed--block out music and noise at the gym. Sound quality is very good, noise blocking is very good and they fold down into a neat, compact package. I guess extreme audiophiles may quibble but they worked for me.
They work great on my long flights overseas
February 8, 2016
They work great on my long flights overseas! It is amazing how much noise they cancel out for the price. I was able to actually get some sleep on my flight, which I am usually unable to do because of the engine roar.

Headphones work great! Sound canceling decent.
September 3, 2017
I like these headphones quite a bit. The noise canceling feature is decent. It reduces the sounds of the plane a good amount, but you can still hear some noise. I bought these for a red-eye flight. The sound canceling was good enough to block out enough sounds to help me sleep (or doze) as best as you can on a plane.I have actually also been using these to go to the gym. Just so you know my perspective, I had only used the apple earbuds that come with the iPhone, so these are a huge upgrade - i can actually hear the music without the volume being all the way up. I don't use the sound canceling while i'm at the gym - I dont think i need it and don't want to waste the battery. The headphones tend to fall off every once in a while if I'm doing a lot of rigorous cardio/burpee type movements, but since I didn't purchase these headphones specifically for the gym, it doesn't really bother me.
Great noise cancelling, great price, short cord.
November 28, 2016
Works effing amazing! The noise cancelling is phenomenal for the price. I work with a bunch of loud a** people in a close office environment. Blocks them all out very well when you flip that little switch. Bass sounds great after you turn it on too and wow can they be turned up LOUD without much distortion. If you need to block out some annoyances at work on a budget these are the ones to pick up.I only have two complains though. The 3.5mm cord needs to be about 2-3ft longer if your computer sits on the floor you have to hunch over sitting in a standard office chair. I had to order a 3ft 3.5mm extension cable to sit comfortably. The other complaint isn't that bad but the battery life doesn't last too long since its just a single AAA battery. I suppose just pick up a high capacity AAA or a rechargeable one is the only real fix for it.5 stars if the cord was longer, other than that, totally worth the price!
Solid airplane noise reducing headphones.
February 18, 2016
If you're looking for an inexpensive noise reducing (note, I did not say cancelling) headset for use on an airplane, the Sony MDRX110NC is a really solid buy. If you are looking for a headset that truly cancels all noise, you are going to be disappointed with this purchase.Pros:-They work well at reducing airplane engine noise (the reason I bought them.)-Compact due to their folding design.-On ear design, which work very well if you wear glasses.-Price, price, price.Cons:-Do not have the best sound, so if you're looking for Bose like quality, stop here.-I found the cord length a tad short, but certainly wasn't a deal breaker. In order for these to do their job, you simply must turn the switch on, without them they are no better (perhaps even worse) than the free earbuds that come with any smartphone. Both my wife and I have used the one set we own on business trips. Having just booked a trip to Europe, I just bought a second set so that we will both have them for the long flight. For the price, these headphones are good enough, and if anything were to happen to them, I would't feel nearly as bad as I would if I had paid $300-400 for top of the line headphones.
effective office noise eliminator
August 15, 2015
i work in a small office space with a bunch of sh-t bags and cackling hens. i just tried these out for the first time today and they work extremely well. i use the soft mummer app and it completely drowns out all of the awful people i work with and every other annoying sound. these idiots all have their own little usb speakers and radios all listening to different stations, talking about inane things that i am unable to ignore. i am very sensitive to sound and very crotchety for my age. i had to try something and these are working out well so far. they work so well that i had to set a visual alert on my phone which is literally inches away so i know when its ringing. i'm not sure on the battery life as of yet but i'd gladly pay for one AAA battery every so often if it means i don't have to listen with these morons anymore.
good for the price.
May 7, 2015
UPDATE:I finally tried these on a plain, and they worked better than expected. They reduced the steady noise by 80%, and I was able to wacth movies and listen to music. I also kept them on, noise canceling activated during my sleep.Recommneded, even for the $65 price asked at airports, since the other brands were $300.Original review: I bought these for $30 and they're good for the price range .The bass is great , but trebles get harsh after a while . It's equalized in V shape.Noise canceling works well, but makes them noisy when there is wind.It makes fans and motors almost disappear. They work when the battery runs out , which is good, even if sound loses quality. They fold flat! Very convenient. Not bad for the price.
Great Deal
April 16, 2015
I'm a classical musician that listens to everything. I own the $15 Koss UR 18 ( comfy and with decent bass for the price) which are good at their price range. I also own $75 Senheisser HD 280. They are bulky with very good passive isolation, and more natural sound.I had the $450 Beats Pro for a while, and they were great for popular music , with control talk, great bass, and superior to all other beats. Now about these pair or Sonys:Sound: they have more bass and treble than the Senheisser 280, but these Sonys sound a bit hollow. For the price range it is Pretty good, I guess. Nothing impressive. I like their boomy bass for some styles of music.Isolation: They reduced the bathroom fan and the bus ramble very noticeably. Voices are softer but at the same time you can hear words more clearly. So keep those differences in mind.(** update: two days later, it's been a few times that people talked to me in the house while listening to angry rock at 40% of volume and I did not hear them at all).Having said that, they're not as good as the Bose QC 25, but they are exactly ten times cheaper.Portability: They fold flat and small in a way that is super compact. No bag included. It uses a AAA battery , easy to use, and it comes with one.Cons:No control to pick up calls.Trebles get harsh after an hour or so, and it hurts a bit, unless you can equalize it well. Sound can be a bit hollow in the middle.Comfort:They are very comfortable even with glasses on. My head is small though.I paid $30 for them, and sometimes I prefer them over the Senhheisser hd 280 to listen to music on the go, specially bass oriented music. The Senheisser are better at blocking higher pitch sounds ( ppl , tv, etc) bc they are big and press against your head, so I kept them for those situations. These Sonys have the *active* noise canceling , which improves their sound. >>>They still work without it, though. So you can listen even without batteries. Sound loses boom and volume, but they work.I'm pretty happy with them for the price. Note:When I tried the $300 Bose Quiet comfort 20 the store went silent. Bass was not impressive. These under $50 Sony pair are probably not as good at isolating ( a 25% less, maybe?) but they are so much cheaper at Best Buy or here, and smaller. The bass is sweet, too.For a cheap option in casual portable listening with isolation, I'd give them a try. If you're an audiophile, or listen to classical exclusively, keep looking.I hope it helps!

during the time that I did have them they did a great job with canceling the surrounding noise
September 19, 2017
While these headphones work well, they DO NOT last very long.I've had these headphones for almost two years now and just recently (this past month) one side of my headphones just randomly stopped working. I'm giving it a three stars because even though they did not last me long, during the time that I did have them they did a great job with canceling the surrounding noise. (Which is why I was incredibly disappointed when they stopped working). I used them during graduate school and traveling and was very happy with the quality. Even though they are MUCH cheaper than Bose headphones, I'm not quite sure I would recommend them to people if they are only going to last you 2 years and you have to pay $50 for them... I myself am now in the market for buying a new pair of headphones and I'm hesitant to buy a new pair if they are going to just end up breaking on me.
They do sound good, and are loud and clear with good base ...
May 4, 2017
On ear, not over ear.Smaller than expected.Noise canceling feature either broken or so mild it's not helpful. Yes, the light comes on, and yes I have other headphones that have this feature. They do sound good, and are loud and clear with good base response. If you need corded folding on ear style headphones these are for you.If you need over ear noise canceling, look elsewhere.
Not close to to the advertized 95% ambient noise reduction; But not bad for the price!
March 9, 2017
The charts attached show the analysis with the noise canceling on (on the left / green box) and off (on the right / blue box). These are OK for the money. I'm sure there are other headphones available for around $34 that perform better, and certainly some that perform worse. The package however boasts "95% ambient noise reduction" which is not true. Here in my office where the only noise is from the fan on my computer it's not even that. I'd like to say something on the order of 40%.I graphed the results in Audacity using a mic in a foam filled box to record differences in ambient noise. I placed 1" holes in the sides of the box where the drivers for the Sony headphones would normally find an aural cavity. This is crude I understand, but it was sufficient for my ends to test these. If you would like a more accurate test feel free to get a human skull and address this matter yourself. The results show that with Noise Canceling on there is a 3dB reduction on sounds below 86 Hz (yellow), and a similar reduction at the top end around 3000-3800Hz where another 3dB reduction is noticed (red). Where these appear to shine is in the mid range between 1000-2800hZ where the reduction of ambient noise is more linear keeping the noises between 46-55dB while on, and 53-62dB while off (orange).
Ok
December 27, 2016
The noise cancellation cuts in and out when there is no change in the environment. It works ok, but not much more than my regular over the ear headphones.
NOT recommended for price, barely Noise-Cancelling
December 21, 2016
Its ok, that's all I can really say, since purchasing the product I have barely used it.The products needs a battery to activate the "noise cancelling feature" which is mediocre at bestThe price is a bit high, I'm sure there are better alternatives at this price point. At higher volumes whatever it is your playing, it can be heard around the roomIt is a bit tight around the ears, but I'm not sure if it will disappear with time or not.I bought noise canceling earbuds for 1/3 of the price and double the noise-cancelling capacity of these Sony headphones. All in all I would not recommend this product for its price point
Very good noise cancelling feature
September 14, 2015
Good noise cancelling feature, though it mostly blocks out lower frequencies more than high frequencies- the rumble of the air conditioner and a fan is muted, but a faint hiss of moving air remains. Unfortunately, it started developing a rattle in the left headphone after only a few months of gentle use, so I'm not impressed by the build quality.

I think it's worth it to shell out a bit more for a better set.

You get what you pay for. These are very junky headphones. They do work, but they're cheap, and the cord is incredibly short. I think it's worth it to shell out a bit more for a better set.
Basic Noise Cancelling Headphones
March 31, 2017
I got these as a last minute replacement for my torn Bose QuietComfort 20 earbuds, so this is not an objective review!-- It does noise canceling at a very minimum. Wasn't quiet enough for me on my flight.-- Cheap aluminum looking plastic with no cushion on the headband. It was difficult to wear for a prolonged period of time without adjustment.-- Sound quality when not turned off is extremely poor, and OK when it is turned on. The bass is lacking.
Would not buy or recommend.
March 15, 2017
These headphones have nice sound but not sure the noise cancelling really drowns out much ambient noise. They are super uncomfortable after 15 minutes of use. The head wrap is plastic with no cushion and starts to dig into the top of your head and hurts. If you losen then they slide too far down your head and don't cover your ears. Would not buy again or recommend.
Sound issues
August 12, 2016
I am sad to say, these Sony headphones are not worth buying. Yes they are noise cancelling. Yes they are inexpensive. But they also make this weird buzzing sound when they are unable to process the surrounding sound. And turning the noise cancelling function off and on does not always reset the headphones. I bought these as an less expensive alternative to my beats headphones so I could keep them at work without worrying about losing anything to valuable. However, the constant issues seem to only keep me from using them. And with that, I would not recommend these.
Disappointed. Minimal noise cancellation.
March 12, 2016
I needed a pair of noise-cancelling headphones for audio transcription. I should have known these were too good to be true since they were so heavily discounted. These did very little to block out noise. When I turned the noise-cancelling option on, it actually made the audio more difficult to hear. I tried putting in a new battery, but it didn't help (the battery compartment also kept falling open). I'm not sure if mine were defective, but I would shop around a bit before settling on these.
I could notice the reduction of background noises like fans/ac units etc
December 31, 2015
The sound quality was decent. But as the POINT of noise cancelling headphones is to reduce unwanted noise. Ones that cause static and electric buzzing and clicking, well they just dont do what they are expected to do. Outside of that, I could notice the reduction of background noises like fans/ac units etc. But the clicking/buzzing was too annoying.

Don't buy, READ this first!
September 20, 2017
Don't buy it if you want noise cancelling feature. I used it on a plane and it was absolutely worthless. I would say approx 2/10 feature in noise cancelling. Even one side of the speakers has stopped working, i barely use the product. It'll go in the junk. I bought the Sony mdr1000x from bestbuy on discount, for $299, usually $350. Those are real noise cancellers and I should've gone with them at first. Compared then to Bose qc35 and found the Sony relatively better. I don't know the nitty gritty specs if the audios, just my simple opinion.
I do not recommend
September 13, 2017
We just bought these in July & the prong to plug into the phone/iPod broke.
Don't expect them to last long or the quality to stick around
June 25, 2017
They're good for the price. Not the best at noise cancelling, but for the price I'm satisfied except for the cover for the battery. Every time I put my headphones down they seem to pop off.Update: Even with a fresh battery the sound quality drops in and out constantly. I gave these a fair shot, but found out that was a mistake.
