Excellent dimmer but if you are buying LED bulbs, make sure you buy compatible LED bulbs..not all work even under the same maker
January 22, 2017
These dimmers look nice and work well. We have one controlling 9 "40 watt equivalent" candelabra LEDs and one controlling two 100 watt "regular shaped" equivalent LEDs. They work well in dimming both and adjusting the max light you want when you turn it on each time. The problem with dimmers is you have to find the bulbs that match and work with the brand and model you use (such as Lutron). I had to try 6 different brands/models before I found one that I liked that worked with the dimmer. And these are really picky..I had actually picked 2 other almost identical candelabra bulbs of the same maker - Kichler before I found a third type of candelabra bulb by Kichler that DID work with the dimmer. So, av oid frustration and be sure you are picking compatible bulbs - it is not necessarily easy to pick the right ones the 1st, 2nd or 3rd time unless you print out their compatibility list (for the Lutron dimmer you use).
Great Dimmer. Works great with Torchstar dimmable LEDs.

Great Dimmer. Works great with Torchstar dimmable LEDs. I used over-sized wall plates to keep fingerprints off the wall. The spacing of the electrical boxes was accidentally perfect. Sometimes things work out.
Solved my problem of LED lights flickering when solar panels were active!
July 16, 2016
Completely resolved a symptom of dimmable LED bulbs flickering in our dining room with the older Leviton TrueTouch TTI06-1, which I had installed just in 2013 and worked perfectly until we had solar panels installed on our house. Once solar was installed, for some reason the Leviton would cause the lights to flicker at all levels except full brightness whenever it was even partially daylight and the panels were producing even the minimal output. At night, lights dimmed just fine with Leviton. But now, with the Lutron Maestro dimmer, the LED bulbs never flicker. I also like the ability to set the lowest level based on when your LED bulbs first light up at the dimmest brightness. That's a dimmer feature I haven't seen in any other dimmer, and it worked perfectly and the bulbs can actually be dimmed much lower than with the old Leviton (almost to a nightlight level).Other features:* Click once to return to previous brightness level when last turned off* Double-click to installing bring to full brightness* Clicking lights off causes a gradual dimming to off (nice effect).Very happy customer. I would highly recommend this dimmer for those with LED or CFL lights, but also anyone looking for a good dimmer in general.
Works perfectly, as advertised.

I am using this in my living room and it's controlling 4 Cree recess mounted LED bulbs. The default dimmest setting works well with the bulbs. I haven't seen any flickering at all. When you turn off, it remembers the last brightness level and it also indicates the level by illuminating the appropriate LED. You can double tap the switch to turn it ON at full brightness or single tap to turn it ON at the last brightness level.Pressing and holding the switch for some time enters the switch into programming mode, where you can change the minimum dim level. My 5 year old once accidentally did it (instead of pressing the dimmer buttons on the side) and it entered the programming mode. Fortunately, she didn't change anything. After telling her how to use the dimmer, she hasn't messed with it again. Something to watch for if you have toddlers at home.
Some bulbs will buzz.
October 1, 2015
I purchased some LEDs from a warehouse store, Feit CELEDRT56/927/2. With this dimmer they buzzed, not terrible and I probably could live with it, but it's still noticeable. After significant research I found an online review for the same warehouse store of a very similar product (LEDR56/827/4) and that reviewer claimed they had purchased the in-store product (927) and it buzzed with this and several other dimmers, and they tried the online product (827) and no buzz. For reference, that last number (/2, /4) in the models seems to indicate the number of lights in the package.I also tried a Luminus CU692 C021 and it buzzed as well. Again, not terrible, but noticeable. So I'm really hoping the Feit 827's don't buzz so I can return all the buzzing bulbs! I'll try to remember to update this review once the 827's arrive. As for this dimmer, it's great. Looks nice, I really like the way it works and especially like how easy it is to adjust the "low point" of the dimmer. Other products I've seen require taking at least the wall plate off, this one adjusts with the front controls. I plan to use this switch everywhere in my condo that I want a dimmer switch.
Works great with LED fixtures in my kitchen
October 12, 2013
This dimmer is driving a bank of three pendant lights, containing Philips LED bulbs, over a kitchen island.I had already returned two different dimmers to my local hardware store because one was stuck "on" (probably defective) and the other produced distracting flickering; I was about to give up, but am glad I finally ordered this Lutron dimmer. Installation was easy with clear instructions.Performance was satisfactory right out of the box, but Lutron also provided a simple calibration method that lets you store the minimum stable brightness of the bulbs, thus establishing an optimal control range for any given installation. I haven't measured the power consumption, but speaking subjectively, I'd estimate that the default settings got these bulbs down to about 30% of full brightness; after calibration they seem to dim further, to something like 20%. I think it is impossible to make LED bulbs emit a bare trickle of light like you can do with incandescents, but this is pretty darned good.

Beware won't dim smoothly with certain types of bulbs (certain LED I think?) but otherwise made well no issues.
Easy to install rotary dimmer switches.....
March 19, 2017
I installed a pair of these dimmer switches on a double-gang wall outlet, to replace two old dimmer switches.... Although only one of the old dimmer switches had "died", I wound up replacing both since the new rotary dimmer switches work differently from the old ones (old: push to turn on our off; dial up or down for brighter or dimmer light; new: dial up to turn on and for brighter light; dial down for dimmer light & to turn off).... Although I liked the old method of turning the light on or off without changing the dimmer settings, the new switches feel a lot sturdier & seem to be simpler (hopefully, more reliable as well)....
An Old Standard and a good version of that too.
October 28, 2016
This is an old school rotary dimmer with the round knob. This is a single-pole dimmers with the rotate on/off version. This is the best version because starting off at the dimmest setting is why your have a dimmer to begin with, you have a reason to want the light to be dim. Maybe at night you don't want to be blinded by bright light really late. Or to disturb others and it is faster to get the desired light level since twisting on and setting the brightness is done all with one quick circular motion. Some people find the rotate on/off dimmers hard to find. But this exact dimmer was at Home Depot as well, but the problem was that it's almost double and a half times the price. I'd leave a link to show you but it's not allowed. Some pro's:1. Feel of turning knob: The dimmer knob should have some friction so that it does not feel loose when turned.2. On/off click: It should have a solid "click" when the knob turns to the on/off position.3. Distance from knob to wall plate: The knob should be close to the wall plate. Push on/off dimmers must stick out to allow travel. They generally stick out about 5/16" (.31") but this one only stuck out .26 for me. It is easier to distinguish a rotate on/off dimmer if it is close to the wall plate.4. Mounting depth: Electric boxes tend to be full of inflexible wires, so reduced depth needed in the electric box is an advantage.5. Price: An average house can have 5-10 dimmers, so the cost can add up.6. comes with two paint-able knobs. White and bisque.Con's:1) Some might not like the old school design and opt for the newer look dimmers like https://www.amazon.com/Philips-458158-Hue-Dimmer-Switch/dp/B014H2OYVW that can even be controlled with your smart phone.2) This version only comes in a single pole model.3) The depth could be a little shorter, as stated some boxes are full of wires.4) Only a 600W version, not sufficient for today's halogen lights.
Works well, and easy to install.
January 28, 2016
This switch works great. It clicks on when you turn it, and feels secure. (I prefer this style to the other one I have that you have to push on, and then turn to dim.) Easy to install, and nice that it has both colors of knob. (Note that it does not include the plate.)

Unreliable... Internittant Problems
August 9, 2017
UPDATE... Turns out its not the switch at fault. A problem between a main electrical panel and a sub-panel with an attached but defective surge protector was causing strange, intermittant problems. all is well now. This is about the Maestro-switches...After 2 months, the switch started dimming all the way to shutoff. It started at night and at the same time all the little brightness-level lights on the front of the switch would start rapidly blinking on/off. By morning the switch was back to working again but then the same problem would start all over again after a few hours of use. I had 2 of them so i swapped one for the other and the same problem started with the new switch about a month later.I think the problem is limited to the "Maestro" line of switches since they dont have on/off rocker switches or an up/down slider for the dimmer. I got them on sale so have decided to just throw them out and get some other switch. I would recommend looking at other dimmers since i think this problem may be exclusive to the Lutron "Maestro" line of switches.

May 2, 2017
Got several of these and they're working well for my recessed LED ceiling lights and and also an incandescent fixture. No flickering or humming. They're instant on, and fade-to-off, which I like. Only "con" for me is that for 3-way switching where you don't use a Lutron "companion dimmer" switch, then you have to rewire the other existing paired switch differently. I was uncomfortable doing it that way the first time, but I followed the instructions and all was good. After that first one, the others were easy to do.
Reasonable product
January 16, 2017
I like this product in general. It remembers your last setting (some switches don't do that) and has a nice appearance. There were two things that I did not like about the product:1) It does not protect itself from bad wiring. I made one mistake and the switch was irreparably damaged. (WeMo, for instance, is much more idiot proof.)2) When I have very low Watt LEDs, the switch is struggling to turn them on. I have to set the brightness all the way up, and them dim down again.I'm curious if others experienced the same.
Cool but adjustment can be cumbersome
December 28, 2016
Very cool dimmer. I love the gradual on/off dimming effect, the LED light indicators and the modern appearance. However, practically speaking, if you adjust the light level very frequently, it takes longer to go from low to high than your typical dimmer and can get a little cumbersome. Because of this, I find myself mostly using the on/off button and not changing the light level very frequently since I installed this.
Overall I am fairly happy with this purchase
March 13, 2016
Overall I am fairly happy with this purchase. It arrived in short order as with almost all my orders on amazon and in good well packaged condition. The default dimmest setting works well with the bulbs I have installed in my home. I haven't seen any flickering since I installed this unit back in January. One of the nicer features the switch offers is that when you turn it off, the switch remembers the last brightness level and it also indicates the level by illuminating a small LED on a scale. You can double tap the switch to turn it back on at its full brightness or single tap to turn it ON at the last brightness level. My one gripe other than the price, and constant changing price is that the LED indicators for brightness level are quite dim and small. I find them slightly difficult to see at just a quick glance, and require a double take of the unit.
Great control of light levels
November 11, 2013
Bought these in anticipation of LED replacement bulbs in our ceiling can fixtures. They install easily (if you've done any wiring before) and work very well...excellent control of light levels, and the double-tap feature for full brightness is a great convenience (over traditional analog dimmers).I ding it 1 star because: 1) there is momentary delay between flipping the switch and lights coming on and 2) beware that installation instructions may be insufficient for your installation, depending on your wiring. For a single switch installation, the instructions are good. For a multi-location (i.e. 3-way switch) install, there are different ways your wiring may be configured, depending on switch and load locations--i.e. which switch location gets power, where is the load (light) in relation to the two switches, etc. What you knew about 3-way wiring (i.e. common, traveler, etc) may be irrelevant. Fortunately, Lutron has an 800-number for technical support. They are very good and were able to help me reconfigure/wire the switches in < 5 minutes!

Very complete. Easy to install. Works great
October 22, 2015
This switch comes with the 3rd green ground wire, (that was good to see) & all the wires hooked up easily with the included insulated 'twist nuts'. It twists to turn on and off. The dim feature goes from romantic glow to bright as can be with incandesant bulbs in the fixture. LED lamps in the same fixture will come on brightly and get brighter and then I can dim them about 1/2 way and they wink out - so no romantic glow from LED lamps. The package included 2 control knobs (one ivory & one white) and 2 mounting screws and 3 insulated 'twist nuts' to connect the wires. Very complete. Easy to install. Works great.
Easy to install and a Good Price
April 8, 2014
I could have paid a few bucks more at the brick and mortar store but this dimmer works well and is a mainstream brand. Arriving in a couple of days I was able to actually replace my old dimmer faster than if I had to wait to go to the big box home improvement center on the weekend. Everybody wins in this case. Well, except the big box home improvement center. Ah well, they get enough of my money.
Easy to install, but only rotary - no push on/off
February 18, 2014
Guess I should have researched more before buying. This is rotary on/off only. I assumed it was a push on/off with rotary dimmer...which I would have preferred as it keeps your dimmed selection set when pushing on/off. Oh well...it was easy to install with only 2 black wires and a green ground...I installed myself with no electrician training (and I'm a girl).

simple operation, tricky set-up, check LED bulb compatibility before buying
June 17, 2017
Works as advertised. Wiring was quick. Operation is simple. But, digital setup was a bit tricky, and took some trial and error - I would suggest Lutron try to make that step slightly more user friendly in future models.I'm slowly converting my lighting to LED. I bought this for our kitchen, and was hoping it would be compatible with the LED lights I bought from Amazon: ASELIGHT 8W ST21(ST64) LED Filament bulb Dimmable Edison Style E26 2700K. Although the bulbs were advertised as dimmable (and they were), they were not compatible with the Maestro. Check Lutron's compatibility chart for this model prior to buying LED bulbs if you want proper functionality.
Though these switches are compatible with Cree LED cans, ...
May 25, 2017
Though these switches are compatible with Cree LED cans, I couldn't get it to work in one of my rooms. After talking to Lutron customer support, I discovered that if the load is too low, the switch will not function properly. I had this hooked up to 4 13watt (100watt equivalent) ceiling cans. When I replaced one of the cans with a regular incandescent bulb (100 watts) as a test, the switch operated perfectly. If you are going to use the dimmer with a low load, I would suggest using the analog Lutron Diva rather than this digital product. I have since switched to the Diva and have had no problems.
I like that you can double-tap to get max brightness
January 26, 2016
Works OK, but has a non-intuitive use interface. The entire face is a button - not a rocker switch, which confuses everyone who touches it. I like that you can double-tap to get max brightness, but overall it seems like there's too much complication for what should be a simple product. I Can get past that, though, because honestly that's just a learning curve that I'd get over in a few days.Sadly, with my Torchstar daylight-color LED lights (which I like a lot: LSD4GDL-19W6D50), they whole system buzzes. If you're going for LEDs, do yourself a favor and do it right with a 3-wire (+gnd) ELV switch. Yes, they cost more, but for quiet rooms they work better.
Lacking critical information...
November 26, 2015
Well, my house built in 2007 had analog switches. Had to call the company to install as I replaced only 1 of the 2 switches to the same light. Wiring is different than in the instructions. Called the company twice. First guy was clueless but luckily I had to call back. The second guy was super helpful. Understood the problem right away and was patient while I worked on the other switch to finish. Now that it is done, works great. It would however have been good to know about the analog/digital switches and WHAT IT MEANS prior to trying to change the switches. Would have saved lots of time for me. Information not in instructions either.Having said that, the idea was that the switch would eliminate the faint buzzing noise by using a discrete digital switch to dimmable LED lights but it didn't. Perhaps I need to switch the other "analog" switch as well.
Works well as a single switch on its own leg
November 20, 2015
I have used other electronic dimming switches and they would not last a year before failing mechanically. I replaced them with Lutron switches that have continued to work year after year.I bought these switches to use on one circuit with a mix of CFL and LED par lights and on another circuit with track lighting with line voltage going to individual transformers and halogen lights. The switches work well but the two electronic switches interfere with each other and I cannot have both sets of lights on at the same time.I have installed 3 of these switches and 1 of them was defective and would dim the lights but could not be shut off. Good idea to buy in advance and verify that it is working properly.
Just an Ok dimmer switch! (Updated)
March 17, 2014
I just installed this switch for my chandelier, and it has poor control of the light levels. The lowest I can dim my chandelier is approximately from 100% brightness, to about 70%.If I try to dim my light fixture lower, the LED bulbs will start to flicker, badly! If I try even lower, they all simply go out.Yes, my LED light bulbs are Dimmable. Or at least they're advertized as such. These; PacLights Cand50 Dimmable LED Candelabra Light Bulb.So I'm not sure if it's the light bulbs, or the dimmer switch?Update:This dimmer switch seams to work fine with Philips LED light bulbs.I have one set of Philips light bulbs controlled by another Lutron Dimmer Switch, and they work good! All I can assume now, is this dimmer switch isn't compatible will ALL manufacturers of LED light bulbs. Thats a real shame, because my chandelier was the main reason for getting a dimmer switch.Aside from that problem, I do like the functioning of this switch, and it's very simple to install, and set it, to turn on at a per determined light level. The gradual shut off is also a very nice feature.I'd like to give this switch a higher rating, but I can't, since it wont correctly operate my chandelier.

Good, with one annoyance.
December 27, 2016
Works well. Easy install. The only thing I don't like is the fact that the way you turn this switch off is to turn it all the way down, and then it clicks. Most I've seen are push for on/off, and rotate for dim. It's not a huge deal, but may be annoying for some. If you use this switch a lot, it's a pain to rotate it to turn it off, when a press would be more convenient.

Product cannot be used two or 3 way on all switches. Only works as a single dimmer, though advertised as multiple use. It is fine in one location, but if you have two switches in kitchen, you can't put a dimmer on both switches. Dimmer will only work on one switch. You can't put dimmers on the two switches. It also does not work with all LED's. R40 no problem B10 or E12 it does not work as designed. I do believe it may be the bulb not the dimmer. Nevertheless disappointed.

Nice features, but it really fails at smoothly dimming a string of dimmable LED bulbs.
June 30, 2017
This digital, programmable dimmer has many nice features. If it had worked well with the Hyperikon LED String lights, I would have been happy to use it. Features like its double-tap for full brightness, and its reprogrammable set points make it seem very desirable. Problem is, it just doesn't work with low wattage, dimmable LED string lights, such as the 2w kind from Hyperikon.
Defective switch + Internal short + Possible Fire Hazard = TRASH
June 27, 2017
My Lutron switch arrived new in the box…and defective. I had an internal short that cause the led to all blink randomly, and the push button to toggle the lights on/off only worked about 20% of the time. Realizing that the internal short was likely a fire risk, I decided to try a separate brand which has had no issues. It’s a shame that there are so many one star reviews of others like myself experiencing internal shorts and it speaks volumes about the low quality control of these Lutron switches. I guess Lutron is permanently off my list of possible electronics suppliers now.My switch is now in the trash where it belongs.

LED bulbs glow when off -- no neutral wire
January 5, 2016
When you use a dimmer, there are 3 things you want to be able to do:1. Turn the light on to full.2. Dim the light to your desired level.3. Turn the light off.Unfortunately, the latter is not possible with all LED light bulbs with this switch. Here is my understanding why:The dimmer switch is a "smart switch". It requires a small amount of electricity even when the lights are off. Part of it is for allowing the small LEDs in the switch to glow, part of it is for allowing the electronics in the switch to work. The manufacturer decided not to require a neutral wire (white wire). The switch leeches power from the connected light bulbs. When the light is on, this is no problem and not noticeable. When the switch is off, it still runs a small amount of current through the bulbs. Based on the large number of positive reviews, it seems that the current is low enough and most LED bulbs do not glow. Mine do though. And if I keep the switch "off" long enough, they start to flicker. If you want a smart switch, I recommend a dimmer switch with a neutral wire where "off" means "off", i.e. no current goes through the bulbs.(To be fair, if your house wiring does not have a neutral wire, then this dimmer switch is a reasonably option as long as you can find LED bulbs that do not glow / flicker.)Let me propose a theory:The more efficient and the more sophisticated LED bulbs get, the more likely it is that the leeching current of this switch will make LED bulbs glow and flicker when the switch is turned off. Therefore, I fear that more and more people will have this issue in the future.Reason for my 1-star rating:It defeats the purpose of a switch if you cannot turn the lights off completely. The attached picture shows the LED glow with the switch off.
